PLEASE ALLOW ME TO QUALIFY THIS DOCUMENTATION BY STATING THAT WE HAVE NOT YET BROUGHT THIS AUTO BACK TO THE DEALER AT THIS TIME. WE PURCHASED THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR AGO. THE CAR HAS FEWER THAN 3,000 MILES. IN THE PAST WEEK WE ARE SEEING THE ADAPTIVE STEERING WARNING LIGHT COME ON AFTER STARTING AND AS SOON AS PUTTING THE CAR INTO GEAR. THIS HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES IN THE PAST WEEK. WE HAVE NOT NOTICED ANY DIFFERENCE IN STEERING, THE WHEEL TURNING OFF CENTER, NONE OF THE ISSUES REPORTED BY NUMEROUS OTHER PEOPLE ON THE WEB. BUT I CERTAINLY EXPECT THIS TO HAPPEN AT SOME POINT. MY CONCERN IS HOW MANY REPORTS ARE ON THE WEB FROM OWNERS WHO EXPERIENCE THIS FAULT. AND THE MANY VARIATIONS OF HOW DIFFERENT FORD DEALERS CHOOSE TO MANAGE THE PROBLEM. EVERYTHING FROM REPLACING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE GOOD OLD "WELL, WE CAN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM" BRUSH OFF. ONCE AGAIN, I HAVE NOT YET VISITED MY FORD DEALER BUT EXPECT TO VERY QUICKLY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY WILL DO, IF THEY WILL DO ANYTHING, OR HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE. WHAT I DO KNOW IS THE FOLLOWING....... AN ISSUE OF THIS NATURE CONSTITUTES, IN MY MIND, A QUESTIONABLE LEVEL OF SAFETY CONCERN BE IT MILD OR MAJOR. THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE MUST PAY FOR ADDITIONAL EXPENSES BY MISSING WORK, MAYBE RENTING A CAR, TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM POSSIBLY RESOLVED OR POSSIBLY NOT. AND IN THE INTERIM DRIVE WITH A CONCERN FOR SAFETY. BECAUSE NOT EVERYONE CAN JUST STOP WHAT THEY ARE DOING WHEN THAT LIGHT COMES ON AND DRIVE TO A FORD SERVICE CENTER WHICH, FOR THE MOST PART, IS ONLY OPEN M-F AND USUALLY REQUIRES APPOINTMENTS IN ADVANCE. I AM KEEPING MY FINGERS CROSSED THAT OUR DEALER, WHICH WE BOUGHT TWO NEW 2016 CARS FROM LAST YEAR, WILL BE PRO-ACTIVE IN ADDRESSING THIS PROBLEM ONCE WE CAN BRING THE CAR IN. BUT I BELIEVE THE NHTSA MUST BECOME INVOLVED AND DEMAND THAT FMC DEVELOPS A FIX AND OFFERS A RECALL.
THE AUTOMATIC TAILGATE UNEXPECTED CLOSES ON YOUR HEAD, THERE IS NO SAFETY FEATURE IF YOU ARE UNDERNEATH THE TAILGATE!
On my Ford there is a device somewhere inside the rear bumper assembly that will automatically open or close the rear hatch as long as the user has the key fob in their possession. There have been several times where the hatch has come down almost on top of me or my wife.There is a tone that sounds when the hatch starts to move but it only sounds from the front and can be difficult to hear if parked near a street or a busy parking lot. It would be a big help if the automatic hatch movement could be turned off by the driver. I believe Ford should also have a device in-betted in the hatch that also sounds if there is a problem. I have spoken to other owners on the web who also can’t find a way to turn off the hatch.
I HAD AN ACCIDENT ON NOVEMBER 30, 2016. I WAS HIT HEAD ON ON A CITY STREET AND SPUN AROUND. I TRIED TO PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKES BECAUSE MY CAR KEPT GOING BUT THE AIRBAG WAS IN THE WAY AND I COULDN'T GET TO THE BRAKE. MY CAR KEPT GOING AND I WAS HEADED FOR AN OFFICE BUILDING. I RAN INTO THE BUILDING BECAUSE I COULDN'T GET MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE DUE TO THE AIRBAG IN THE WAY. THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE IF THERE WERE OTHER CARS IN THE AREA THAT I NEEDED TO AVOID OR IF I WAS HEADED FOR A CLIFF MY CAR WAS TOTALED.
I BOUGHT A 2016 EDGE SPORT IN JANUARY AND HAVE HAD TO TAKE TO THE SHOP FOR THE OIL PAN LEAKED 2 TIMES IN A MONTH STEERING WARNING LIGHT CAME ON FOR 1HR HEAD LINER HAD TO BE REPLACED BRAKE LIGHTS FILLED WITH WATER, BUMPER HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF A HOLE FROM FACTORY. I ASKED FOR ANOTHER CAR THEY SAID NO I ASKED FOR MY MONEY BACK AND THEY SAID NO SO I HAVE A CAR WITH 11000 MILES THAT'S IN THE SHOP EVERY MONTH AND NOTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT
MY CAR WAS PARKED IN A SHOPPING CENTER. WHEN WE RETURNED TO THE VEHICLE AND STARTED THE CAR AND PUT THE CAR INTO FORWARD GEAR, A WARNING LIGHT "ADAPTIVE STEERING FAILURE" WAS DISPLAYED. IN ORDER TO DRIVE STRAIGHT, I HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL AT A FULL 90 DEGREE ANGLE. I EVEN TRIED SHUTTING OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTING, BUT TO NO AVAIL. AFTER PARKING IT AT HOME, I LET IT SIT FOR ABOUT AN HOUR, RESTARTED THE CAR, AND EVERYTHING WAS SUDDENLY NORMAL AGAIN. DROVE DOWN THE STREET, EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE AT THAT POINT. I HAVE A SHORT VIDEO, BUT I WILL UPLOAD A SCREENCAP THAT SHOWS THE WHEEL ORIENTATION WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT.

FIRST MALFUNCTION EXPERIENCE (NOVEMBER 2, 2017): I WAS DRIVING ON LOCAL STREETS AT AROUND 40 MPH IN STEADY BUT LIGHT RAIN. WHILE USING THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS IN MANUAL MODE (PUSHING DOWN ON THE MULTI-FUNCTION STALK), THE WIPERS STOPPED WORKING. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT ANY SUCCESS, SO I TRIED PUSHING THE STALK UP TO USE THE WIPERS ON INTERMITTENT OR FASTER SPEEDS. THAT DID NOT WORK EITHER. I PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AT MY EARLIEST POSSIBILITY, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE WIPERS STARTED WORKING PROPERLY. SECOND MALFUNCTION EXPERIENCE (NOVEMBER 13, 2017): LESS THAN ONE WEEK WE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS. TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY AT AROUND 60 MPH IN LIGHT RAIN. WE WERE USING THE WIPERS IN MANUAL MODE WHEN THEY STOPPED RESPONDING. THE WIPERS STOPPED RESPONDING TO MANUAL ACTIVATION OR INTERMITTENT OR FASTER SPEED MODES. THE RAIN DID NOT PREVENT US FROM CONTINUING TO DRIVE AND IT WAS ABOUT FOUR MINUTES BEFORE WE TRIED THEM AGAIN IN HIGH SPEED MODE AND THEY RESPONDED. DURING THE TIME WE WERE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT WIPERS, THE REAR WIPER FUNCTIONED PROPERLY.
STEERING WHEEL RANDOMLY GOES OFF CENTER, SOMETIME MORE SOMETIMES LESS, AS IF THE ADAPTIVE STEERING IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE CAR CONTINUES TO TRACK STRAIGHT AND HAS A PROPER ALIGNMENT. NO ERROR CODES OR WARNINGS ARE SHOWN.
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A COUNTY HIGHWAY APPROXIMATELY AT 45 OR 50 MPH. PAT STEERING AND VEHICLE ALSO MAY HAVE LOST POWER RESULTING IN CROSSING INTO LEFT LANE AND STRIKING A TREE. YES, THERE WAS DEER IN THE AREA AT THE TIME BUT THEY IN NO WAY. CAUSED THE ACCIDENT. APPEARED I HAD NO STEERING OR POSSIBLY BRAKES. STRUCK AN ASH TREE HEAD ON, PASSENGER SIDE TOTAL LOSS OF VEHICLE. SPENT 3 WEEKS IN THE HOSPITAL, FORTUNATE TO STILL BE ALIVE!! REPORTING THIS AS IT IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE
WHILE AT SLOW SPEED AND TURNING (I.E., IN A PARKING LOT), THE "ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT/SERVICE REQUIRED" LIGHT WILL OCCASIONALLY COME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL FEELS AS IF SOMETHING RELEASED OR SWITCHED INSIDE OF IT. THE STEERING WHEEL HAS REALIGNED SLIGHTLY OFF-CENTER SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE SYSTEM RESETS MOST OF THE TIME AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTING IT SEVERAL MINUTES LATER. TWICE NOW THOUGH, THE STEERING WHEEL STAYED AT NINETY DEGREES WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT. LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP COMPLETED A SOFTWARE/CODE RESET TWICE, SO UNKNOWN IF IT IS AN ELECTRONIC OR MECHANICAL ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE INFORMATION ADVISING STEERING WHEEL REPLACEMENT. THE INITIAL DIAGNOSIS WAS UNDER WARRANTY AT AROUND 26K MILES; SECOND RESET HAD TO BE DONE AT AROUND 46K. THE FAULT SEEMS TO ACTIVATE ONLY IF MOVING AT FIVE MPH OR LESS AND TURNING THE WHEEL IN EITHER DIRECTION.
VEHICLE VACUUM BRAKE BOOSTER HAS A LEAK THAT CAN BE HEARD IN THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS NOT CURRENTLY COVERED BY THE WARRANTY HOWEVER A VACCUM TEST REVEALS LESS THAN RECOMMENDED PRESSURE IN THE SYSTEM. BRAKES ARE SPONGY WHEN USED. THE VEHICLE IN QUESTION HAS 6147 MILES. FORD REFUSES TO REPLACE THE VACUUM BOOSTER REGARDLESS OF MULTIPLE TECHNICIANS REPORTING THE ISSUE AND STATES THAT IT APPEARS TO ACT AS DESIGNED DESPITE LOSS OF BRAKING POWER SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE.
DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 80 MPH IN MOTION WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO GO INTO 'LIMP MODE.' THE DASH STATED THERE WAS 'LOW OIL PRESSURE' AND 'CHECK AIRBAGS.' WITHIN THE NEXT THREE SECONDS THE CAR STARTED TO LOSE POWER AND POWER STEERING WAS SHUT OFF. THE CAR STARTED SLOWING DOWN AT A DRAMATIC RATE LEAVING ME STRANDED. AFTER THE CAR KILLED THE ENGINE I WAS NOT ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD TURN OVER, BUT NOT HOLD POWER IT WOULD DIE IMMEDIATELY. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO START THE CAR AFTER WAITING 10 MINUTES. THE CAR WOULD START AND HOLD POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND AIRBAG LIGHT WERE ON. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO DRIVE A MILE BEFORE THE PROBLEM WOULD START ALL OVER AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AVERAGING ABOUT EVERY 2,000 MILES. IT HAS HAPPENED IN BLIZZARD CONDITIONS, RAIN, AND ON A 50 DEGREE DAY. ALSO WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH AND ON A HIGHWAY GOT 55 MPH. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR INTO FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRING WITH THE CAR. WHEN PLUGGING THE CAR INTO THE SYSTEM TO LOOK FOR THE PROBLEM THEY STATED NOTHING SHOWS UP, EVEN WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON.
THROTTLE BODY FAILURE - WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, THERE WAS A CLUNK SOUND AND A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED ON OUR DISPLAY AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER. WE COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND HAD TO CAREFULLY COAST TO NEAREST OFFRAMP. WE TRIED TO RESTART CAR AND IT DID TURNOVER BUT THE SAME PROBLEM REPEATED AFTER ABOUT ONE MINUTE. IT APPEARS THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH A VARIETY OF FORD MODELS. NO RECALL ON OUR VEHICLE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE.
2016 FORD EDGE TITANIUM APPROX. MILEAGE 7600 DATE: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 8, 2017 TIME: APPROXIMATELY 12:45 P.M. LOCATION: SOUTHBOUND ON WAUKEGAN ROAD/US HIGHWAY 41 NEAR INTERSECTION WITH CASIMIR PULASKI DRIVE (LIGHTED INTERSECTION), WAUKEGAN ILLINOIS DRIVING SOUTHBOUND IN LEFT LANE ON HIGHWAY 41 AT ABOUT 40 MPH. RIGHT LANE CLOSED FOR CONSTRUCTION WORK. WEATHER CLEAR AND DRY. ROADWAY FLAT AND STRAIGHT. SUDDEN LACK OF ACCELERATION EVEN WITH INCREASED PRESSURE ON GAS PEDAL. DASH SERVICE LIGHT (ORANGE WARNING) 'HILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE' WITH WRENCH. ALSO NOTICED AIRBAG LIGHT WAS LIT. HIT BRAKE PEDAL TO LIGHT UP THE WARNING LIGHTS FOR TRAFFIC BEHIND ME AND ALSO TURNED ON THE HAZARD FLASHERS. CAR ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ABOVE ABOUT 1 MPH. SINCE RIGHT LANE AND SHOULDER WERE NOT ACCESSIBLE, I TURNED LEFT AT PULASKI DRIVE TO GET ONTO A SLOWER-MOVING, LESS-TRAFFICKED ROADWAY AND PULLED TO THE SHOULDER. CAR WAS BARELY MOVING. TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND WAITED APPROXIMATELY 20-30 SECONDS. TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND NO ERROR MESSAGES WERE DISPLAYED. TESTED FORWARD AND REVERSE GEARS WHILE ON THE SHOULDER AND FELT NORMAL ACCELERATION. MADE A U-TURN BACK ONTO PULASKI DRIVE, TURNED LEFT ONTO HIGHWAY 41/WAUKEGAN ROAD AND DROVE HOME. SERVICE ON 9/12/17 ' ONLY ERROR CODE WAS B1111 DESCRIBED BY TECH AS 'ABS PARKING BRAKE', CODE CLEARED BY TECH. SERVICE ON 9/19/17 ' COMPLETE DIAGNOSTICS RUN ' NO ERROR CODES. NO RESOLUTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WATER WOULD COLLECT INSIDE THE ENTIRE REAR REFLECTOR PANEL LIGHTS SURROUNDING THE LICENSE PLATE. THE WATER WOULD CAUSE THE LIGHTS TO SHORT WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DAVIDSON FORD OF CLAY (3690 NY-31, LIVERPOOL, NY 13090, 315-860-0096) WHERE THE LIGHTS WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE RESISTANCE REQUIRED TO STOP THE DOWNWARD MOVEMENT OF THE POWERED LIFT GATE TO TOO GREAT. IF THE GATE WERE TO CLOSE ON A CHILD OR SMALL ANIMAL IT WOULD CAUSE INJURY. GATE WORKS ACCORDING TO FORD SPECS. HOWEVER A SMALL SOFTWARE CHANGE COULD CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I AM A MALE AND IT TAKES SEVERAL POUNDS OF RESISTANCE FOR ME TO CAUSE THE GATE TO REVERSE. MY WIFE CAN NOT STOP THE DOWNWARD MOVEMENT UNLESS SHE IS STANDING UNDER THE GATE. DEALER STATES THAT SEVERAL OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM. IF THIS ISSUE IS NOT CORRECT SOMEBODY OR ANIMAL ARE GOING TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED.
ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON AND THEN GOES AWAY WHEN SHUT OFF AND STARTED.
AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AT AN INTERSECTION, WITHOUT CONTINUALLY INCREASING THE PRESSURE ON THE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WILL ALLOW THE CAR TO CREEP FORWARD.
ADAPTIVE STEERING ISSUE. LIGHT HAS INTERMITTENTLY CAME ON AND OFF, BUT YESTERDAY THE WHEEL WAS AT 90 DEGREES TO DRIVE STRAIGHT. SEEMS LIKE SAFETY COULD BE AN ISSUE. ESPECIALLY IF YOU WERE AT A LIGHT AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STRAIGHT AND YOU SIDE SWIPED THE CAR IN THE NEXT LANE. THIS MORNING THE LIGHT WAS OFF AND I'M CURRENTLY AT THE DEALER HAVE THEM CHECK AND HOPEFULLY RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE FOR MY FAMILY AND I WANT TO ENSURE SAFETY IS NOT AN ISSUE.
MY 2016 FORD EDGE SPORT WITH 8745 MILES ON IT IS EXPERIENCING ADAPTIVE POWER STEERING ISSUES. AT APPROX. 5000 MILES THE WARNING LIGHT STARTING COMING ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY AND AS OF YESTERDAY THE LIGHT IS NOW STEADY AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS NOW NOT ALIGNED WITH THE DIRECTION THE WHEELS ARE POINTED WHILE DRIVING. THIS FEEL UNSAFE AND I CANT GET FORD TO LOOK AT IT UNTIL AUG 23, 2017
I ENTERED ON TO I-95 INTERSTATE ON RAMP. I LOOKED BACK OVER MY LEFT SHOULDER TO MERGE SAFELY ALONG WITH ACCELERATING AND THE CAR DECELERATED. MY 18 YEAR OLD SON WAS WITH ME AND HE SAID YOU NEED TO ACCELERATE. I TOLD HIM I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYED A WRENCH ICON ALONG WITH A MESSAGE SAYING SEE OWNERS MANUAL. AFTER BARLEY BEING ABLE TO PULL OVER TO SAFETY I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND RESTARTED IT. WE WERE ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND GET HOME. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER THEY SAID IT'S THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAVE A 2016 FORD EDGE WITH 6,400 MILES.
MY VEHICLE WAS ACCELERATING ON A STRAIGHT SECTION OF ROAD DURING RUSH HOUR (HAD AT LEAST A HALF TANK OF GAS). I WAS PUSHING NORMALLY ON THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP MOVING AND SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, THE CAR DECELERATED AND LOST POWER AS IF I RAN OUT OF GAS. IT CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. NO LIMP MODE, I HAD TO COAST TO A PLACE TO PULL OVER. POWER WAS ON AND ALL COMPONENTS WERE WORKING EXCEPT THERE WAS NO GAS WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL. THE WRENCH ICON LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD. WHEN I TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE THE GAS PEDAL WORKED SO I PUT IT IN "DRIVE" AND ACCELERATED CAUTIOUSLY. AFTER FIVE MINUTES, I LOST POWER AGAIN, JUST BEFORE ENTERING A MAJOR HIGHWAY. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER COULD HAVE KILLED ME ON A HIGHWAY, OR IN THE MIDDLE OF ANY BUSY INTERSECTION, NOT TO MENTION HARM OTHER DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS. I TOOK IT TO FORD SERVICE THE NEXT DAY AND THEY SAID I HAD A BAD THROTTLE BODY. IT WAS NOT CONTAMINATED, IT JUST FAILED. THEY STATED THAT THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME THEY SAW A FAILED THROTTLE BODY IN A 2016 EDGE. (13,000 MILES). MY HUSBAND SAID IT HAPPENED TO HIM ONCE EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND HE IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR ADVICE. HE WAS INSTRUCTED TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND IT SHOULD BE FINE AFTER STARTING IT BACK UP. IT WORKED. THAT MAY BE A SHORT TERM SOLUTION - TO GET HOME. IT IS NOT A SOLUTION TO THIS LIFE THREATENING PROBLEM.
THE INCIDENT HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES, SO FAR, TWICE WITHIN TWO MINUTES. DRIVING DOWN A STRAIGHT, FLAT ROAD AND THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS DOWN. ACCELERATOR DOES NOT WORK, AIR BAG SENSORS DEACTIVATE, COMPLETE LOSS OF CONTROL. CARS BEHIND HAD TO SWERVE INTO A DITCH TO AVOID HITTING MY CAR BECAUSE THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF WITH NO NOTICE, GOING 50 MPH. NOW HAPPENS EVERY TIME I DRIVE VEHICLE FOR LONGER THAN 20-25 MINUTES. HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE MESSAGE APPEARS AND CAR SHUTS DOWN WITHOUT WARNING TRAVELING AT HIGH SPEEDS. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS AND SERVICE ENGINE NOTIFICATION. AIRBAG SENSOR OFF LIGHT ILLUMINATES. I'VE FOUND THIS HAS BEEN A KNOWN PROBLEM SINCE 2002 AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO RECALLS. WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SIDE OF THE STREET, WHERE I RESTARTED THE CAR ONCE WITH NO CHANGE, SHUT CAR OFF AGAIN AND LEFT A BIT LONGER BEFORE WE STARTING, CAR CRANKED OVER VERY HARD, DID ALLOW ME TO BE ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY INTO THE GAS STATION, STILL NOT AT THIS POINT RUNNING LIKE IT SHOULD, CONTACTED LOCAL DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT, AFTER SITTING APPROX 5 PLUS MINS, CAR STARTED, ALL DASH LIGHTS WENT OUT EXCEPT THE ENGINE LIGHT. TOLD TO BRING CAR IN TO BE CHECKED OUT ASAP. FROM WHAT I'VE READ ON LINE THIS SEEMS TO BE A FAIRLY COMMON PROBLEM,BUT A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. TAKATA RECALL AUTONATION HAS SENT A LETTER FOR RECALL ON TAKATA AIRBAGS BUT HAS NO REPLACEMENT AIRBAGS.THERE IS ALSO A RECALL FOR CORRODED GAS TANK. I SEE NONE OF THESE IN YOUR RECALL DATABASE SO I ASSUME THE RECALL HAS BEEN RESCINDED.I WAS WAITING FOR AIRBAGS TO COME IN TO GET IT REPAIRED TOGETHER. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. TAKATA RECALL- ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT-MY VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED ON NOVEMBER 16, 2016 AND IN THAT TIME ITS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES FOR AN ADAPTIVE STEERING FAULT WARNING THAT CAME ON SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, TO WHICH NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT WHY. BY MY THIRD ATTEMPT TO BRING THIS TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY FINALLY TOLD ME THAT HAD TO REPLACE THE WHOLE STEERING WHEEL. THE DEALERSHIP THEN SHOWED ME A NOTICE THAT WAS SENT OUT BACK BEFORE I BOUGHT MY CAR THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE REGARDING THE STEERING THIS NOTICE WAS DATED NOVEMBER 3, 2016. I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FOR ITS SAFETY DUE TO HAVING A 5 YEAR OLD AND CURRENTLY PREGNANT, THEN TO FIND OUT THAT THIS HAD A DEFECT BEFORE PURCHASING THAT I WAS UNAWARE OF AND YET LEAD TO BELIEVE IT WAS STILL SAFE. THEN I RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE DRIVERS SIDE AIRBAGS NOT FULLY FILLING UP AND THOSE HAD TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE CALLED BACK IN JUNE WHEN I RECEIVED THE LETTER AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN. IT IS NOW SEPTEMBER 26 WITH NO ANSWERS ON WHEN THESE TWO WILL BE FIXED FOR A 4TH TIME. I WAS TOLD THAT WHEN REPLACING THE STEERING WHEEL I MIGHT LOSE OUT ON SOME OF THE TECHNOLOGY THAT I PURCHASED MY CAR WITH AND I EXPECT SOME KIND OF COMPENSATION FOR THIS. THE STEERING DEFECT WARNING WOULD RANDOMLY COME ON, SOMETIMES WHEN I TURNED THE CAR ON, SOMETIMES WHEN I TURNED THE WHEEL, SOMETIMES WOULD TURN OFF AND THEN RANDOMLY COME BACK ON. THE DEALERSHIP DID DO A SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH CHANGED THE FEEL OF THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY AND THE WARNING CAME BACK ON TWO DAYS LATER. AS YOU CAN SEE THIS BRAND NEW VEHICLE ISN'T EVEN A YEAR OLD AND HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP MORE THAN MY USED CAR. EVERY TIME I HAVE TO LEAVE MY CAR AND THEY REFUSED TO GIVE ME A LOANER CAR MAKING ME MISS WORK EVERY TIME.

AS VEHICLE SPEED INCREASED AND DECREASED, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD MOVE RIGHT AND LEFT ... DURING THIS TIME, THE VEHICLE WOULD MAINTAIN A STRAIGHT TRACK ON THE GROUND ... AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS WHEELS OUT OF ALIGNMENT ... HOWEVER, THE STEERING WHEEL OFFSET OCCURRED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE WHEELS WERE ALIGNED FOR BOTH INSTANCES ... AM CERTAIN THAT THIS ISSUE IS RELATED TO THE ADAPTIVE STEERING SYSTEM (2016 FORD EDGE SPORT IS THE FIRST VEHICLE TO GET THIS SYSTEM) ALTHOUGH I DID NOT GET AN ADAPTIVE STEERING SYSTEM FAIL LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD DISPLAY ... THE STEERING WHEEL IS CURRENTLY TURNED TO THE RIGHT APPROX. 30 DEGREES ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO DRIVE IN A STRAIGHT LINE ... I'LL BE TAKING THIS VEHICLE TO FORD FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION BUT, TO DATE, THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM.

DRIVING DOWN A STRAIGHT ROAD AT 50 MPH ON HIGHWAY 41 AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT / WRENCH ICON CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME I HAD LOST ALL POWER TO ENGINE. HAD TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ANY FASTER THAN 5 MPH. AFTER STOPPING I TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT AND IT WOULD NOT IDLE UNDER 2500 RPMS. STOP ENGINE AGAIN IT SEEMED TO BE OK THEN BUT STILL COULD NOT DRIVE ANY FASTER THAN 5 MPH. I ENDED UP CALLING A TOW TRUCK. I THOUGHT AT THE TIME THAT SOMETHING WAS WRONG WITH THE THROTTLE BODY OF THE ENGINE. 1 YEAR OLD FORD WITH 6,287 MILES AND HAD JUST BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR AN OIL CHANGE 2 WEEKS EARLIER. NO RECALL ON IT WAS LISTED PER DEALERSHIP. IF I WAS IN VERY HEAVY TRAFFIC OR RAIN IT COULD OF BEEN REALLY BAD REALLY FAST.
