The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the TPMS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where a front wheel alignment was performed, and the front driver’s side lug nuts were replaced. The contact stated that while driving at 10 MPH, the front driver’s side wheel detached from the vehicle, and the contact lost control of the vehicle. Due to the failure, the vehicle sustained extensive front-end damage, and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The Insurance Provider sent a Claims Adjuster to assess the damages and declared the vehicle a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
Four Nokian Ones 245/50R20 102V were purchased online from Priority Tires and shipped to Mr. Tire Hammonton NJ on [XXX]. All four tires are separating along the tread block edge on both sides. The tires are being held at Mr. Tire in Hammonton for inspection. Mr. Tire has maintained this vehicle since original purchase 2007 and with severe vibration occurring they determined the cause was tire separation along the outer edges of all four tires. The separation is cracking into the tread block and continuously around the entire circumference of each tire. A blow out is the safety concern and they recommended complete replacement of each tire. My safety and my drivers safety are at stake. I am a [XXX]. This vehicle is my only vehicle to get to my Cardiologist at DeBorah Heart and Lung as well Cardiologist at Jefferson University Hospital as well as the VA in Philadelphia. My concern is driven by Michelin Tires blowing out and recall a few years back. Mr. Tire documents every visit including oil changes, tire installation, tire rotation, 4-wheel rebalancing, 4-wheel alignment. There is, on file, their recommendations and full-service records. The severe vibration began after @30,000 miles and was unsolved due to the defective nature of the tread on all four tires. Several alignments, 4-wheel rebalancing and tire rotation have not resolved and increasing vibration for the past 18 months. Priority tires only looked at pictures denying all requests for in-person inspection. I have also requested Nokian Tyres send a representative for inspection - all denied by Priority Tires. Priority tires supposedly sent the defective warranty claim to Nokian Tyres with a response of "Road Hazzard" was the cause. No response to my request for their definition of "Road Hazzard" and policy procedures. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I went to have tires rotated and an alignment done to the 2016 Edge. The mechanic came in and told me we had a problem with the lug nuts have enlarged and they could not get them off and when they would get them off they would be damaged and not be able to put the back on the car. They had to force the tool on the lug nuts to get them off. Some of them the caps were loose when they got them off too. I had to spend 68.00 to get new lugs so i could get out of the place. They showed me and they were severely out of shape and were not safe. I am a widow who takes car of father and if we would have had problems on the road i would not of been able to change the tire. Something needs to be done about this. I checked the ford website and see manny people have complained over the same issue. So let me know what you plan to do about this dangerous issue!
Dealer’s (San Tan Ford, Gilbert, AZ) service department indicates I need to replace all lug nuts ..all found swollen creating a safety hazard. Cost of replacement is $164.98 plus taxes and labor charges.
Lug nuts were swollen and they informed me I would not be able to change a tire with a manual tire iron and it was unsafe as two were completely stripped. Only 70k on the vehicle. Cost over $100 to repair. Seems like a common complaint so thought it prudent to report same.
My lugs nuts have expanded on my vehicle and I cannot get my wheels off. What happens if while unable to change a flat tire on the highway due to the lug nuts stuck on the the car I get hit and killed? Ford needs to accept the responsibility on this safety defect and replace the lug nuts at no charge. This has also created an issue with me being able to have my brakes checked during my oil changes.
Swollen lug nuts. Unable to use supplied lug wrench on lug nuts after having a flat tire on roadway. Unable to safely remove flat while on side of road. Dealer diagnosed problem as swollen lug nuts on wheel. No warning
Damaged lug nuts. Dealer told me they had to be replaced. Front are like new. Back wheel lug nuts have swelled and are starting to rust. Dealer cannot rotate my tires. My last Edge did not have this problem and it was older.
When getting tires rotated found out that the lug nuts on my wheels had expanded and had to get them removed by force. Found out this has been occurring to other Ford vehicles for years. Now I have replacement lug nuts that extend too far out and if hitting a curb or something would definitely ruin the wheel. Should not be having this type of issue at my expense for faulty lug nuts.
Lug nuts on vehicle were swollen and wound not come off according to the dealer. This is a known defect by the dealer and Ford Motor Company. All lug nuts have to be forcefully removed and replaced at owners expense. There should have been a recall on this known issue already.
Went to Costco to have my tires rotated. They advised that my lug nuts were swollen and could not be removed with the tools they had. They suggested buying after market lug nuts as this was a known issue with Ford lug nuts.
I purchased this vehicle used from a dealership and I have had it for six months and now I was going to replace the break shoes front and back. Now the problem came when I tried to remove the lug nuts and I could not! Ford decided to put metal caps over all lug nuts and failed to tell the customers that they can not get them off with the standard equipment given by factory. There is no lug wrench or socket that will fit the lug nuts with the caps on them. Here is the “rub” I called the dealership and the service technician said “ to get a oversized socket and bang it on and then remove each lug nut , then replace all of them with new ones without the caps on them.” WOW. Ford has to know that this is a issue everyone that owns one has the same issue. Now imagine getting a flat on the interstate with the family at 1:30am.Now you would have to have the vehicle towed and find a ride at 1:30am. Now that would be a 15 minute job if Ford would do a recall and replace all of these ignorant lug nuts. Wow what a waste of time and money. I don’t know maybe Ford did not want the customers to remove the wheels never. Please help
Lug nut swelling dealer said not under warranty Costco said common complaint please consider recall. I have to spend a couple hundred bucks to get fixed. Thanks
Lug nuts are 2 piece: The thread piece and the chrome head piece. The pieces became loose from each other, then the thread piece rusted and caused the chrome piece to swell and deform so the lug wrench could no longer fit on the lugnut, thus making it impossible to loosen. This can be a major problem when changing a flat tire. I needed to take my car to an auto mechanic to have several of the factory installed lugnuts replaced. I will need to buy replacement non-OEM lugnuts so this doesn’t happen any more. I read that this is a problem happening on many Ford vehicles.
I purchased FOUR (size 245/60R18) Firestone Destination LE2 tires on May 2, 2019 from my Ford Dealer (Washington Ford) to replace original equipment tires that were wearing down. Mileage on the car at the time was 22047. The tires were rotated on November 22, 2019 (mileage on odometer was 27687 or 5600 miles since purchased), the tire were rotated next on November 11, 2020 (mileage on odometer was 34465 or 12,400 miles since tire purchased). Currently the odometer reads 42,365 and all 4 tires have 5/32" tread depth as measured by the Firestone Dealer on 9/23/2021. Essentially the tires have 20,000 miles on them and are wearing out prematurely for a tire with a 500 treadwear rating and a supposed 60,000 mile warranty. The car has noticeably less traction and has hydroplaned twice during rain events while travelling on the Interstate roads during the pas 14 days. The local Firestone dealer told me there was nothing they can do to pro-rate the mileage until the tires are worn down to 4/32 tread depth. The TIRES ARE UNSAFE NOW. During my tire inspection on 9/21/2021 the Firestone manager indicated that I may have to go through my Ford Dealer to replace the tires????!! An internet search reveals a majority of complaints relating to POOR TREAD WEAR for the Destination LE2 tires.
I went to have a slow leak fixed and the shop could not get the lug nuts to come off as the caps on the lug nuts had expanded and warped. I had to replace all 4 wheels lug nut. Cost to me $75.87
Lug nuts swelled and were rounded as a result of swelling.
The contact owns a 2016 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while having routine maintenance performed on the vehicle, she was informed that the lug nuts were loosened. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the lug nuts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was 49,190.
