I had a engine failure on the highway causing me to holt to a stop! Lucky it was not super busy and was able to get pulled over safely without getting hit or hitting someone.Turns out I have coolant leaking into my cylinder 3 causing it to fail. Ford tech said it wasn't anything I did wrong most of these motors are going out! If this is that big of a problem why is ford not taking it apon themselves to recall this. From what I am hearing this problem is happening to alot of people. They are making me pay out of pocket for the repairs which just seems crazy because it was nothing I did wrong.
We had a po301 and a p316 changed plugs and coils and then the codes came back. The ford dealer said we need to replace the engine due to coolant in the #1 cylinder. After research there is a known problem with the engine design.
Panaramic sunroof cracked on inside portion of the vehicle, concerned it might shatter. There is also a crack on the outside portion. It Is over $1000 to replace. Alot of customers have complained about this issue and adding this one to it

I have approximately 53000 miles on my vehicle. The Engine light turned on end of Aug. So I took it to a service center. They said the message code was P306 & P0316. They inspected and said the cylinder is misfiring, coolant has gotten into the cylinder, and the gasket is mush. The engine is rough running and told me to take it to Ford, I will need a new engine. In searching this problem I found a TSB 22-2229 & an NHSTA 19-2208, 19-2172. Ford can't get me in until end of September to verify. I've found several references to this problem causing an engine fire, I also found a class action suit recently filed in California for this problem. Ford has not issued a recall for this problem and I don't understand. They redesigned the engine in 2021 as they knew it was a faulty design. I didn't know that. I don't have another vehicle to drive, meanwhile I'm making car payments on it. Ford won't provide a car for me to use. I don't want to drive my car with [XXX] knowing this problem could cause harm to me, them and others. Please advise. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion into cylinder #3, and it was determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
I own a 2018 Ford Edge SEL 2.0L EcoBoost (VIN: [XXX] ). On August 24, 2021, with approximately 72,062 miles, the vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership due to engine performance issues. The dealership diagnosed coolant intrusion into the engine cylinders. The dealership determined the engine was not repairable and required full engine replacement. The repair invoice explicitly states coolant present in the cylinder and replacement of the engine was necessary. I paid $5,602.85 out of pocket for the repair. The vehicle was properly maintained, and I have oil change and service records from that period. No warning or misuse contributed to the failure. I later contacted Ford Motor Company to request reimbursement, as this failure appears consistent with the widely reported 2.0L EcoBoost coolant intrusion defect affecting similar Ford vehicles. Ford declined assistance, citing mileage and timing, and stated no active recall applied. I am submitting this complaint to document the failure, the repair cost, and to request review of this defect and Ford’s handling of owner-paid repairs for this known issue. The car was taken in multiple times for rough idol and rough start, taken in multiple times for these two issues and nothing was said about the KNOWN coolant intrusion issue. Car overheated multiple times with no warning and then would stop running. The 2021 edge with the same engine has been recalled but I am just lucky it didn’t catch on fire! The car is now dead being stored in my garage and ford has left me without a vehicle.

My check engine light came on, by the time they could get the car into the shop it would overheat and stall. It was found that the engine is leaking coolant into the wrong parts causing a misfire, the car is now non operable. It is well documented in TSB 19-2346, confirmed by dealership the engine needs to be replaced. My safety has been in great risk as it could have stalled at any time in any location while I was traveling with my kids. Ford is negligent in fixing a KNOWN issue
My vehicle experienced what many of the Ford vehicles have had occur in this year range regarding the EcoBoost engine. My 2018 Ford Edge, maintained by the dealership since purchase, equipped with the EcoBoost 2.0 engine had coolant leak into the number one cylinder. Once this happens, there is no repair besides to replace the engine. Ford knows there an issue, even the service person told me this happens a lot with this model, but there is no recall at this time. They want $7,800 to change the engine block. Ford changed the design by scoring channels between the cylinders in an ill conceived attempt to increase cooling. This bad design allows coolant to degrade head gasket leading to coolant intrusion into cylinders. Inevitably, this leads to engine failure. Apparently, Ford redesigned the Ecoboost 2.0 engine around 2020 to eliminate this issue. Ford has not recalled these engines and apparently refuses to fix the issue if the vehicle is out of warranty. The Ecoboost 2.0 engines with this bad design WILL EVENTUALLY FAIL. This issue is the direct result of Ford’s bad design making these engines unmerchantable. I know this has been reported many times to the NFTSA and should be a major recall for this engine.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the exterior light housing assemblies were filled with water. The contact stated that the lights became inoperable. The vehicle was not taken to the local dealer nor independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified on the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000.
Coolant leak into cylinder causing engine to misfire, caused by warped cylinder head. Chapman Ford and CarShop have inspected and confirmed this issue and have indicated it is a common, recurring issue with Ford engines. Ford issued a service bulletin about this specific problem in 2019. In August 2019, the engine light went on, “misfire in cylinder #2”.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle would shake and fail to turn over before starting. The check engine warning light would occasionally illuminate. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that coolant had leaked into the engine block. The vehicle was then taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed with an error code: P0302 (cylinder #2 misfire) engine coolant leak and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was left at the local dealer for further repairs and was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
While driving the vehicle transmission shifts are radically intermittently on up shift when traveling highway speeds no problem when decreasing speed at highway speed and increasing speed sometimes the vehicle lurches or jumps then when coming to a stop when you're downshifting it seems to be third gear through first gear the transmission violently jerks as it's downshifting to the point where you can almost lose control. It seems a lot like a safety recall on the 2017 edge dealing with the torque converter
Owner of a 2018 Ford Edge SEL 2.0 L Eco Boost, approx. 40,000 miles. Started experiencing a dip in RMP’s while idling. Check engine light came on. Vehicle was registering a “misfire”. Uncertain if it was spark plugs, coil pack and/or head gasket the computer was reset and vehicle was given back. Engine light appears AGAIN. This time, local repair shop opened the cylinders and discovered a small amount of coolant and/or oil. Cylinders were cleaned and vehicle was given back. AGAIN, engine light appeared 3rd time and made an appointment with Scarsdale Ford Service. At FORD Service, spoke to “Ralph.” Initially, was informed it might just need sparks plugs. (KNOWING THERE’s A FLAWED ENGINE DESIGN THAT ALLOWS COOLANT TO ENTER THE ENGINE BLOCK ERODING EVERYTHING. So much so, that FORD has issued a “technical service bulletin” BUT refuses to recall the engine). Later, was told the engine needs to be replaced and it would cost $10k for repair. Spoke to Ford Customer Service who only filed a “request” for “up to $5k in repairs” which is not guaranteed. Awaiting judgement from that. AND they placed a request for “buy back” from all the forms which I am reading. I can only expect to be offered up to $3k. This is unacceptable. No one buys a car and expects it to last less than 50k miles. Also, knowing the ongoing issues with specifically the 2018 2.0 L Eco Boost, why wasn’t i informed of this sooner? Why was I not given options? Instead, it’s too late now. My engine is dead and sitting at Ford Service and no one at FORD seems to be helping. I can offer documentation of all of this and available by phone or email for any follow up questions.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the vehicle was experiencing excessive coolant consumption with the check engine warning light was intermittently illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that the engine was misfiring. The dealer advised the contact to schedule another appointment for further diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for diagnostic testing. Additionally, the manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000. The VIN was not available.

Warning lamp went on. Took immediately to Ford, with only 28K miles on my 6-year-old vehicle. They diagnosed a coolant intrusion. Was told this is a "known problem" with the Ford Edge 2.0L Ecoboost engine, due to a "manufacturing defect". Had to do a "Long Block" replacement, costing me thousands of dollars.
Check engine light appeared and the car ran rough. I took the car to an automotive repair shop. Spark plugs are misfiring into the cylinder causing coolant to leak into the engine. Then causing the engine block to crack. 2018 ford edge with only 38000 miles. The engine could start on fire and cause catastrophic failure. The car is not drivable and the mechanic cannot repair it without changing the whole engine out.
My 2018 Ford Edge SEL AWD 2.0L Ecoboost just had a Long Block replacement due to a “Coolant Intrusion” into the engine. Got the vehicle back from the Ford dealership today. I had this car factory-built for myself in 2018, and I only have 28,000 miles on it! And GET THIS... the super-duper six-year extended Warranty I paid over $5,000 for when I bought the Edge expired just 5 WEEKS BEFORE THIS PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED. Talk about unfortunate timing! I have been reading on the internet about many, many people who are having the same problem with Ecoboost engines, due to a manufacturing defect that Ford has admitted to for certain makes/models/years with Ecoboost engines… and that the vehicles have caught on fire in some instances. Mind you, I have only taken my Edge to Ford dealerships. Like clockwork, I am VERY proactive about my car check-ups... and then some. I took it to the Ford dealership the day my "check engine" light came on (no other indications before that). I had my 1996 Ford Mustang convertible for 22 years before changing to this Edge, and that car still looked like new. I baby my cars. The day they told me what the problem was and that the Estimate was a $7,800 Long Block repair due to "Coolant Intrusion into the Engine", I looked it up on the internet and saw my same problem EVERYWHERE! This should have been a Recall. Is Ford waiting for people to die before they would do a Recall?
they sold me a new car 2018 with a known engine defect and with only 40,000 miles it needs a new engine due to a engine defect where coolant enters the engine cylinders
I started seeing a Check Engine light (CEL) on the dash of my 2018 Ford Edge Titanium (approx. 95k miles) and also noticed that the car was misfiring during acceleration. I took the car to a mechanic who found error code P0303. The mechanic subsequently found a cracked spark plug in the 3rd cylinder and I directed them to replace all 4 spark plugs. CEL came back within a week (verified same code) and so I replaced all 4 firing coils but the CEL still came back (this time flashing). After taking the car into a local Ford Dealer for service, I was informed by dealer that the car fell under TSB 11-2229 (leaking coolant into cylinders) and that the only recourse was to replace the engine block. The leaking coolant could have caused the car to seize up while in operation (I believe this is why the CEL was flashing instead of steady on) and that if I was at highway speeds when the engine seized then this would have been catastrophic.
Unknown. Seems like coolant is making it's way into the cylinders and disrupting combustion. A lot of sweet-smelling white smoke from exhaust when first starting. Engine code pointing to cylinder 1 misfire even though plugs and coils have been replaced. Shakes a bit when starting and overall lower performance.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the engine overheated. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic; however, the failure was not duplicated. The contact was informed by the independent mechanic that the vehicle was consuming an excessive amount of coolant; however, there were no signs of any leaks. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 73,000.
Yes, available for inspection. 2.0L Eco Boost engine leaking coolant into cylinder 1 due to a design defect 2015-2018 which has since been corrected. The only fix is a complete engine replacement. There is a recall for the Ford Fusion and Focus FOR THE SAME ISSUE; however, the Ford Edge 2.0L Eco Boost has not yet been added. There is a service bulletin addressing this issue requiring an engine block replacement: TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 2.0L EcoBoost - Coolant in Cylinders, White Exhaust Smoke And/or Illuminated MIL. An extensive internet search revealed widespread accounts of this issue, mostly after the manufacturer warranty had expired, leaving the customer responsible for engine replacement. Because this was deemed to be caused by a design defect (grooves were etched into the block to allow coolant between the cylinders which weakened the block, causing cracks, which allowed the coolant intrusion), I believe the existing recall should be expanded to include the 2015-2018 2.0L EcoBoost engine as well.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated and was running rough.
