DT: THE CONTACT STATED THERE HAS BEEN A SMELL OF FUEL IN THE VEHICLE SINCE PURCHASE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS SUPPOSE TO SEND A FIELD TECHNICIAN TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE FUMES CAUSED THE CONTACT'S NOSE TO BURN, MADE HER NAUSEOUS AND MADE IT IMPOSSIBLE TO DRIVE. *AK UPDATED 1/11/2006. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING AT 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THERE WAS NO WARNING PRIOR TO THE FAILURE. THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS USED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP, WHO DETERMINED IT WAS THE SPARK PLUGS. ALSO THE COIL PACK MALFUNCTIONED. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP. *AK
DT: THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND WENT OUT IN THE MORNING TO TURN ON THE DEFROSTER. AFTER LETTING THE VEHICLE WARM UP FOR A WHILE SHE GOT IN THE VEHICLE. WHILE TRAVELING TO WORK SHE REALIZED BACK WINDOW WAS SHATTERED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE REPAIRS WILL BE MADE UNDER WARRANTY.*AK
I JUST LEFT THE RESTAURAUNT AND WALKED OVER TO MY ESCAPE. WHEN I OPENED THE DRIVERS DOOR THE REAR TOP EDGE WAS RAKED BACK FAR ENOUGH TO HIT MY GLASSES, BENDING THEM AND THEN THE UPPER MOST CORNER PIERCED THE SKIN JUST BELOW THE EYE. 1/2" BY 1/2" CUT. A LITTLE CLOSER AND I WOULD HAVE SEVERLY DAMAGED MY EYE. THE TOP REAR CORNER EDGE OF THE DOOR EXTENDS TOO FAR BACK. SINCE THAT INCIDENT I HAVE TO OPEN THE DOOR WHILE STANDING FURTHER BACK THAN USUAL TO AVOID ANOTHER INJURY. LAST NIGHT MY SON-IN LAW HIT HIMSELF IN THE FOREHEAD JUST ABOVE HIS GLASSES WITH THE REAR MOST TOP EDGE OF THE RIGHT FRONT DOOR. CAUSING A CUT AND BLEEDING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WOULD OCCUR DURING COLD WEATHER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED ON ANY RECALLS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING VEHICLE PULLED TO THE LEFT. IT FELT AS IF THE CONTACT CONSTANTLY WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN. THIS PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY THE SERVICE DEALER THREE TIMES. IT WAS DETERMINED THHAT THE ALIGNMENT WAS WITHIN THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS. THE SERVICE DEALER COMPLETED DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE BUT WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THEY SAID THEIR ENGINEERS WERE AWARE THERE WAS A PROBLEM, AND WERE WORKING TO FIND A SOLUTION. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. *AK UPDATE 1/4/2006 - *NM
I HAVE A 2005 FORD ESCAPE THAT I PURCHASED ON FEBRUARY 19,2005. I HAVE BEEN HAVING CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSENGER AIR BAG LIGHT. THE SALESMAN AT FUTURE FORD OF ROSEVILLE(WHICH IS WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE) TOLD MY HUSBAND AND I THAT THE CAR HAD A SAFETY FEATURE THAT WOULD TURN OFF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG IF SOME ONE FIFTY POUNDS OR LESS WAS IN THE VEHICLE. NOW HAVING KIDS THAT REALLY PEAKED OUR INTEREST. WENT ON TO PURCHASE THE CAR. NOT SOLEY BASED ON THIS FEATURE BUT IT WAS A DECIDING FACTOR. EVER SINCE WE HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT. THE LIGHT INDICATING THAT THE AIRBAG HAS TURNED OFF COMES ON EVEN WHEN I AM SITTING IN THE SEAT AND I WEIGH OVER 120 LBS. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR BACK SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY HAVE WITNESSED THE PROBLEM THEM SELVES SEVERAL TIMES. THE COMPANY HAS EVEN CALLED OUT AN ENGINEER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND HE SEEN THE PROBLEM HAPPEN WHEN SOMEONE WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT. HOWEVER THEY CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHY IT IS DOING THIS BECAUSE THE FACTORY TESTS THAT THEY RUN ARE SOWING THAT THE CAR IS WORKING PROPERLY. IT IS OBVIOUS TO EVERYONE THAT THIS IS NOT TRUE BECAUSE THE LIGHT COMES ON AS SOON AS I SIT IN THE SEAT. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD PUT ME INTO ANOTHER CAR AND TAKE BACK THE ESCAPE. I CHOSE A 2005 FORD FREESTAR. WHICH HAS THE SAME SAFETY FEATURE BUT IT WORKS WHEN I AM IN THE SEAT. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR OVER THREE WEEKS AND NOW THEY HAVE CALLED US AND SAID THAT WE HAVE TO BRING IT BACK BECAUSE THEY CANT FIND US SOMEONE TO FINANCE US DUE TO THE NEGATIVE EQUITY FROM THE ESCAPE. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT MY RIGHTS ARE IN THIS CASE. THEY WANT US TO RETURN THE VAN AND I AM REALLY UPSET BECAUSE THAT MEANS THAT I HAVE TOP TAKE BACK THE ESCAPE WHICH IS THE VERY CAR THAT I AM NOT SAFE IN. TWO OF THE SERVICE EMPLOYEES TOLD ME THAT THEY HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH THE ESCAPE AND THE EXPLORER BEFORE. I JUST NEED TO KNOW WHAT MY RIGHTS ARE. PLEASE GET BACK TO ME AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I NOTICED THAT ONE OF MY FOG LIGHTS HAD CRACKED. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER. THERE HE SAID THAT GLASS IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. THAT IF I WANT IT FIXED I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF. I WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER . HE FIXED IT FOR ME COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WELL I GOT BACK HOME AND THE LIGHT WAS CRACKED AGAIN. THE VERY SAME PATTERN OF CRACKS AS THE FIRST . THAT IS WHY I THINK IT IS A STRESS CRACKS. THE DEALER SAID THAT HE DOES NOT BELIEVE THAT STRESS CRACK OCCURS FAST. *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATES THE HEAD RESTRAINT POSTS ON THE FRONT SEATS ARE DANGEROUS. THERE IS NO PADDING TO COVER THE METAL POSTS IN THE BACK OF THE SEAT. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT THE REAR SEAT OCCUPANTS WOULD NOT HAVE ANY PROTECTION FROM THE METAL POSTS. LOSS OF STEERING IN A FORD HYBRID ESCAPE ELECTRIC STEERING, COMPLETE LOSS OF STEERING IN A TURN AND NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE. *TR
PURCHASED NEW FORD ESCAPE JANUARY, 2005. TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED AND FAILED AUGUST, 2005 WITH ONLY 6091 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AND IN BUSY INTERSECTION. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO DREW FORD DEALER...TRANSMISSION OVERHAULED. TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED ON SEPTEMBER, 2005 WITH 6710 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. AT THIS TIME WE WERE TRAVELING 70 MPH ON FREEWAY WITH CONSIDERABLE TRAFFIC TO NEGOTIATE TO THE ROADSIDE. CAR TOWED AGAIN TO DEALER. TRANSMISSION OVERHAULED AGAIN AFTER MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION WITH NEW ONE. WERE TOLD BY DREW FORD THAT IT WAS A DIFFERENT PART THAT FAILED THE SECOND TIME AND THAT IT WAS A RESULT OF FAULTY ASSEMBLY BY THE MANUFACTURER. WE HAVE SERIOUS CONCERNS ABOUT GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS VEHICLE AND TREPIDATION THAT OUR SAFETY MAY BE JEOPARDIZED IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN. *NM

I HAVE A 4 CYLINDER AND MY GAS PEDAL IS ALWAYS GETTING STUCK IN A POSITION AND I HAVE TO TAP IT HARD TO UNSTICK IT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE I'VE BOUGHT THE TRUCK - AT FIRST, I THOUGHT IT WAS MY SHOES, OR MY IMAGINATION, BUT WHEN I FINALLY LET MY HUSBAND DRIVE MY ESCAPE, HE UNDERSTOOD WHAT I MEANT. IS THERE A RECALL FOR THIS BECAUSE I HAVE TO TAP HARD TO UNSTICK THE PEDAL AND IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. *NM
FORD ESCAPE LIMITED 2005 WITH 3000KM. STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AT 80 KM PER HOUR. DEALERSHIP HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND DON'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I WAS TOLD TO JUST LIVE WITH IT. I FEEL THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE AND THAT IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I TEST DROVE ANOTHER ESCAPE AND THE SAME PROBLEM WAS PRESENT. THEY TOLD ME THAT ALL THE ESCAPE HAD VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL AT THIS SPEED. *NM
2005 FORD ESCAPE XLT ROLL OVER RESULTED IN A FATAL DEATH. THE LIFT GATE AND DOOR WERE OPENED DURING THE ROLL OVER OF SUV. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOYED. I LOST MY WIFE IN THIS ROLL OVER. MY SELF AND MY BROTHER'S WIFE GOT MAJOR INJURIES. THIS MODEL HAS AUTOMATIC 4 WHEEL ENGAGEMENT. DURING THE CRASH THE ENGINE PUMPED MORE POWER TO THE WHEELS. TRIED TO CONTROL BUT BECUASE OF MORE POWER FROM THE ENGINE THE DRIVER COULD NOT CONTROL IT AND GOT OVER CORRECTED WHICH ENDED UP IN DITCH. THAT FINALLY, ENDED UP IN A ROLL OVER. MY WIFE GOT EJECTED FROM THE VEHICLE AND DIED ON THE SPOT DUE TO BLUNT FORCE TRAUMA TO HEAD AND CHEST. *JB
DT: THERE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT COMING ON AND OFF. THE PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 7-14-05. THE CONSUMER HAS TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR MULTIPLE TIMES. IT WILL BE FINE AFTER THE CONSUMER HAS TAKEN IT TO A DEALER. THEY HAVE REPLACED THE SENSOR, AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. THE REPAIRS ARE ONLY TEMPORARY. *AK
THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE HAS A TENDENCY TO NOSE DIVE AS THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND ALSO HAVE EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING. THERE IS ALSO A PERSISTENT RATTLE OF THE FRONT SUSPENSION THAT FORD SAYS IS COMMON TO ALL FORD ESCAPES AND THUS FAR HAS NOT FIXED. *NM
D: THE DRIVERS SEAT MATERIAL IS SO HARD IT PUTS THE CONSUMER'S LEG TO SLEEP. THE CONSUEMR FEELS THT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE SHE CANNOT DRIVE THIS VEHICLE VERY FAR WITHOUT HAVING TO STOP AND WALK AROUND THE VEHICLE TO WAKE LEGS BACK UP. THE PASSENGERS SEAT APPEARS THIS WAY ALSO. STARTED NOTICING THIS ABOUT 3 WEEKS AFTER BUYING THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENS WHEN I'M IN IT FOR ABOUT 45 MIN TO AN HOUR. *NM *NM
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 50 MPH THERE WAS VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END OF VEHICLE. THE DEALER MADE NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THE REPAIRS CONSISTED OF: BALANCING THE TIRES ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRES AND WHEELS, BALANCING OF THE NEW TIRES, AND REPLACEMENT OF THE DRIVESHAFT. AFTER THESE ATTEMPTS WERE MADE, THE DEALER CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THAT THE VIBRATION WAS NORMAL FOR THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. *AK UPDATED 12/27/05. *JB
DRIVING 2005 FORD ESCAPE ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH. OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE AROUND 85 DEG. AIR CONDITIONER WAS RUNNING. REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR WINDOW SHATTERED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. NO ROCK OR OTHER PROJECTILE FOUND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. NO EXTERIOR DAMAGE ON DOOR OR SURROUNDING AREA. HAD NOTICED "SQUEAKING" NOISE FROM THAT GENERAL AREA FOR QUITE SOME TIME BEFORE WINDOW SHATTERED. NO PASSENGERS IN REAR SEATS, BUT WOULD HAVE BEEN INJURIES IF PASSENGERS PRESENT. POLICE REPORT WAS MADE. UNABLE TO DETERMINE CAUSE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND NONE OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART; HOWEVER, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE IGNITION COIL WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE MORE TIMES AND EACH TIME THE COILS WERE REPLACED. THE PCM MODULE WAS ALSO REPLACED TWICE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000. UPDATED 10/10/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED DRIVING 55MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED. 2005 FORD ESCAPE XLT: PULLS TO THE LEFT, VIBRATION IN FRONT, STEERING POOR. IT'S BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALER 3 TIMES: AT 2000 MILES, 2600 MILES, AND 3800 MILES. IT'S GOING BACK A 4TH TIME. THANK GOD FOR THE LEMON LAW IN MN. THIS IS A SERIOUS STEERING DEFECT FROM THE FACTORY. FORD NEEDS TO CORRECT THIS BEFORE THEY LOOSE ALL MARKET SHARE TO QUALITY MANUFACTURERS LIKE HONDA AND TOYOTA.
ABS LEFT SENSOR FAILED REQUIRING REPLACEMENT OF THE AXLE. *AK
THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE SEAT IN MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE XLT IS LEANING AND POINTING TO LEFT. AFTER SPEAKING WITH THE DEALER, THEY SAID THAT FORD PURPOSELY MADE THE FOAM ON THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT LESS DENSE THAN ON THE RIGHT SIDE FOR EASIER ACCESS AND EXIT OF THE VEHICLE. STILL THE SLIGHT TWISTING AND DEFECTION OF THE SEAT TO THE LEFT LEAVES ME FEELING LIKE IM IN A POOR DRIVING POSITION. THE SERVICE MANAGER ALSO STATED THAT HED BEEN TOLD BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND THAT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO AT THIS TIME, MAYBE A RECALL IN THE FUTURE BUT NOTHING RIGHT NOW. I CANT BE THE ONLY PERSON CONCERNED BY THE ODD SEATING POSITION AND THE FEELING OF DISTRACTION WHILE IM DRIVING, WHICH THEN BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE IN MY EYES. NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 04V442000; FORD ISSUED A REAR LIFTGATE RECALL. CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER STATING THAT IT WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. CONSUMER DROVE HOME AND PULLED INTO THE GARAGE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE LIFTGATE POPPED OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY, CAUSING IT TO BREAK. CONSUMER NOTIFIED MANUFACTURER, WHO WAS NOT WILLING TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. CONSUMER STATED THE THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE WHEN A PRIOR APPOINTMENT WAS SET.*AK
RECALL 04V60200 CONCERNING FMVSS 206 REAR LIFTGATE DOOR. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO GET THE DEALER TO HONOR THIS MANUFACTURER'S RECALL NOTICE. DEALER URGED CONSUMER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE HE PURCHASED IT.*AK

DT: NEW VEHICLE THAT HAS A WEIGHT SENSOR ON THE RIGHT FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. THIS ALLOWS THE AIR BAG TO BE ACTIVE OR DISABLED WITH THE WEIGHT OF A PERSON. I OWN A 2005 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHEN I BOUGHT IT (BRAND NEW) I NOTICED AN AIR BAG ISSUE WHERE DURING DRIVING, IF THE PASSENGER MADE A SLIGHT SITTING ADJUSTMENT, THE AIRBAG WOULD DEACTIVATE. SOMETIMES IT WOULD NOT REACTIVATE, OR TAKE A LONG TIME (5, 10 MINUTES). I TOLD FORD ABOUT IT, AND THEY REPLACED THE AIRBAGS SEAT GEL PAD SENSOR. THE SYMPTOM IMPROVED, BUT STILL HAPPENS. MY FIANCE IS 120LBS AND SHE SITS NORMALLY IN HER SEAT. IF SHE MAKES A MOVE TO READJUST (AS ONE WOULD ON A ROAD TRIP, OR LONG DRIVE) THE AIRBAG MAY STILL DEACTIVATE. INITIALLY IT WAS FREQUENT (75% OF THE TIME) HOWEVER NOW IT IS 50/50 (SINCE THE REPLACED GEL PAD). BEFORE I COULD PULL OVER THE ENGINE TURNED OFF. AFTER A FEW TRIES, I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE CAR ON THE BATTERY POWER THROUGH THE INTERSECTION (VERY SLOWLY) TO A BUSY BUS STOP. I COULDN'T START THE CAR AGAIN RIGHT AWAY. HOWEVER, ON BATTERY POWER AGAIN, I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK TO THE PARKING LOT. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP FROM THERE. IT TOOK THEM TWO WEEKS TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG AND FIX THE CAR. WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPEND, THE CAR HAD 260 MILES ON IT.
