RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT, DETACHING THE SHOCK WHERE IT ATTACHES AT THE TOP. ENTIRE INNER WHEEL WELL NEEDS REPLACEMENT TO REPAIR.
MARCH 20, 2017. FRONT END PASSENGER SIDE SUBFRAME RUSTED THROUGH AND BROKE CAUSING SEVERE STEERING ISSUES. THIS FAILURE IS SIMILAR TO THE FAILURES THAT RESULTED IN THE 2004 AND BEFORE MODEL YEARS TO BE RECALLED BY FORD. THIS ISSUE STILL PERSISTS IN NEWER MODEL YEARS.
ROTTED OUT SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY, MECHANIC DECLARED CAR UNSAFE AT ANY SPEED. FORD RECALLED THIS PROBLEM 2001-2004 BUT DID NOT EXTEND TO 2005. FORD DEALER REFUSED TO WORK ON VEHICLE.
PURCHASED VEHICLE IN APRIL 2017 2 MONTHS LATER HEARD A BANGING NOISE FROM REAR PASSENGER SIDE UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION DISCOVERED THE WHEEL WELL RUSTED OUT AND THE SHOCK HAD CAME THROUGH. I CONTINUED DRIVING IT BECAUSE I COULDN'T AFFORD TO FIX IT AND IT WAS MY ONLY CAR NOW THERE IS NO WHEEL WELL LEFT AND HAD TO REMOVE THE SHOCK.
BEGAN HEARING TERRIBLE NOISE FROM REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL. INVESTIGATION REVEALED THE ENTIRE WHEEL WELL AND FRAME WERE RUSTED OUT. AFTER REPLACING THE WHEEL WELL AND SHOCK MOUNT TOWER, STILL EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS DUE TO FRAME BEING RUSTED OUT. NO LONGER ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR SAFETY REASONS AND IT IS HEADED TO THE SCRAP YARD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH OVER A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE MADE A LOUD BANGING NOISE. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL WAS SEVERELY RUSTED. IN ADDITION, THE SHOCK ABSORBER BECAME DISCONNECTED FROM THE FRAME OF THE WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
DESPITE MANY, MANY OWNER COMPLAINTS, FORD HAS NEVER BEEN MADE TO RECALL THE 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THERE ARE RUST ISSUES IN THE REAR OF THE CAR THAT COULD LEAD TO UNSAFE OPERATION. ONE EXAMPLE IS SHOCK ABSORBERS THAT COULD COME LOOSE DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST ON THE FRAME. FORD HAS ISSUED SUCH A RECALL FOR PREVIOUS MODEL YEARS, SO THEY ARE WELL AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THEY NEVER MADE ANY REPAIRS TO THE 2005 ESCAPE MODELS. I CONTACTED THEM AND THEY REFERRED ME TO YOU (THEY WERE QUITE HATEFUL). PLEASE HELP. I AM ON DISABILITY AND WE CANNOT AFFORD THE COST OF THESE REPAIRS AND WE BELIEVE FORD SHOULD BE MADE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. THANK YOU.
MY 2005 FORD ESCAPE LTD WITH 122K MILES WITH NO WARNING STALLS WHEN I COME TO A STOP, OR WHEN I'M GOING LESS THAN 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAS DONE THEN SAME THING WHEN I WAS DRIVING 65 ON MY WAY TO LAX, HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND WAS ALMOST SIDE SWIPED AND REAR ENDED BY CARS. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATE, NOR CAN THE MECHANIC FIND ANYTHING WRONG. AFTER DOING RESEARCH I'VE COME TO LEARN THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM AMONG THIS YEAR AND MODEL, YET FORD WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE WITH A RECALL. THIS IS DANGEROUS, I'M SCARED TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS VEHICLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. FORD IS IN THE KNOW. I'D LIKE TO SEE SOME ACTION BEING DONE.
MY CAR IS RUSTED OUT ON THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL. MY SHOCK ARE BANGING WITH A LOUD BANK. THE WHOLE INSIDE IS NOW RUSTED OUT AND THE IS A HOLE THAT GOES TO THE TRUNK AREA. PRICE ARE JUST FALLING OUT.
PASSENGERS SIDE WHEEL WELL HAS DEVELOPED EXCESSIVE RUST. SUPPORT FOR SHOCK/STRUT ASSEMBLY INTEGRITY HAS BEEN COMPROMISED. VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO BE DRIVEN WITHOUT REPAIR. RUST DAMAGE WAS CONCEALED UNDER RUST PROOFING MATERIAL.
WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS APPLIED WITH CONSTANT PRESSURE, BRAKES WOULD ENGAGE THEN FAIL TO ENGAGE FOR SHORT SECONDS, THEN ENGAGE AGAIN, SYMPTOMS ARE INTERMITTENT. SOME TIMES IT WOULD TRIGGER A BRAKE RELATED DTC. TECHNICIAN DETERMINED IT WAS A FAILED HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM AND WAS TOLD IT WAS COMMON AND OCCURRED ON A NUMBER OF THE SAME MODEL VEHICLES FROM 2005 TO 2012.
DRIVERS SIDE REAR SUDDENLY BEGAN BANGING WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. REAR STRUT MOUNT COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT SO THE STRUT IS LOOSE AND BANGING ON THE INSIDE OF THE TRUNK. VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THERE IS NO SURFACE RUST ON THE VEHICLE AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THIS WOULD TAKE PLACE. MANUFACTURER DID NOT ATTACH THE STRUT SECURELY - ONLY SURFACE MOUNTED ON THE INSIDE OF THE WHEEL WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY, TURNED AT THE CORNER, HIT A SMALL BUMP AND HEARD A LOUD BANGING SOUND LIKE THE REAR GATE DOOR WAS NOT CLOSED, STOPPED AT THE CORNER PUT IT IN PARK, GOT OUT AND OPENED THE REAR GATE AND RECLOSED IT, GOT BACK INTO MY VEHICLE, TURNED LEFT HIT ANOTHER SMALL BUMP, AND HEARD THE LOUD BANGING NOISE AGAIN, STOPPED AT THE 4 WAY CORNER STORE, PARKED AND GOT OUT AND WALKED AROUND MY VEHICLE TO INSPECT IT, AND NOTICED THE RUST ON THE PASSENGER REAR SIDE, SOME OF IT HAD FALLEN OFF AND I COULD SEE THE STYROFOAM ON THE INSIDE OF THE PASSENGER REAR TIRE WELD.I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE I AM PURCHASING THE VEHICLE AND THEY SAID I COULD TAKE IT TO THEIR GUY TO LOOK AT IT, TOOK IT TO HIM AND HE SAID THAT I HAD A REAL PROBLEM AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE WELDED, WENT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID I COULD TAKE IT TO THEIR GUY TO FIX, BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW WHEN THEY COULD GET ME IN FOR AN APPOINTMENT. I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, AND HE STILL HAS IT, TRYING TO LOCATE THE REAR END OF ANOTHER FORD ESCAPE TO FIX IT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL SOUND COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE SHOCK WAS NOT CONNECTED TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH RUST BETWEEN THE SHOCK AND THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE FRAME. THE SHOCK ABSORBER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 188,000.
NOTICED UNDERCOATING PEELING OFF IN WHEEL WELL(REAR PASSENGER SIDE). PULLED OFF AND ALSO FOUND A 3IN. CIRCLE OF METAL LOOSE. HAVE SEEN OTHER(300+) REPORTS OF THIS RUST PROBLEM ON THIS WEB PAGE. I AM ORIGINAL OWNER AND VEHICLE HAS ALWAYS BEEN GARAGED WHEN NOT IN USE AND HAS LESS THAN 70K MILES. THERE ARE NO HANDLING OR NOISE ISSUES YET.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V165000 (STRUCTURE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 187,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE ENGINE, STEERING, AND BRAKES FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT ALL SIX EMISSION COILS FAILED AND FRACTURED THE PCM. THE CONTACT STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND NOTED THAT THE SHOCK ABSORBER HAD DETACHED FROM THE WHEEL WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WHEEL BEARINGS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE EVEN AFTER BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE DRASTICALLY REDUCED SPEED AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED AND THE ENGINE ABRUPTLY SHUT DOWN. THE GEAR SHIFTER WAS PLACED IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION AND THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND DRIVEN HOME. THE VEHICLE WAS HOOKED UP TO A HANDHELD DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE AND DISPLAYED, "BAD PCM AND BAD COILS". THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
SIMILAR TO THE 2008-2011 MODEL RECALLS, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING ASSIST SUDDENLY STOPPED FUNCTIONING WHILE IN MOTION. THE WHEEL WAS BEING TURNED ALL THE WAY TO THE RIGHT WHILE TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT WHEN IMMEDIATELY THE WHEEL FELT HEAVY AND THE POWER STEERING CHECK LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD SYSTEM. THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40 DEGREES AND WET.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH AND TURNING THE VEHICLE, THE THROTTLE BECAME STUCK AND THE CONTACT REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND STRUCK THE CONTACT ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FACE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED ADDITIONAL INJURIES TO THE NECK AND BACK THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. VILLAGE FORD (23535 MICHIGAN AVENUE, DEARBORN, MICHIGAN 48124, (313) 565-3900) WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNKNOWN.
THE GAS PEDAL WILL GET STUCK DOWN. THE VEHICLE WILL STALL. I WOULD HAVE TO USE MY FOOT TO TRY TO LIFT THE ACCELERATION PEDAL UP. SOMETIMES IT WOULD POP INTO PLACE QUICKLY WHILE OTHER TIMES, I HAD TO KEEP LIFTING IT UP WITH MY FOOT. THIS HAPPENED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY AND OTHER CARS WERE COMING FULL SPEED BEHIND ME, BUT I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK IN MOTION IN A SPEEDY MANNER. THIS HAS OCCURRED EARLY MORNING, MIDDAY, AND NIGHT. IT HAS BEEN ON THE CITY STREET AND THE HIGHWAY. I RESEARCHED AND SAW THAT FORD HAD A RECALL FOR 2001 - 2004 FOR THE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE WHICH IS DUE TO THE STICKING ACCELERATION PEDAL. WHEN I WENT TO FORD, THEY SAID THAT MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL NOR THE CONSUMER APPRECIATION FOR CERTAIN MODELS ALTHOUGH IT WAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. MY VEHICLE IS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THERE WERE MANY CARS THAT CAME IN WITH THIS ISSUE, BUT THE SALES WOMAN PRETENDED AS IF SHE NEVER HEARD OF THE ISSUE. I PAID ALMOST $1,000 TO FIX AN ISSUE THAT OTHER VEHICLES HAD FIXED IN A RECALL. *TR
WE STARTED TO HEAR A VERY LOUD BANGING COMING FROM THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE WHEN WE DROVE OVER EVEN THE SMALLEST BUMP. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELL IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THOUGH (YOU CAN SEE THE INTERIOR) AND THE WHEEL COULD FALL OFF AT ANYTIME. THE CAR IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH OUT A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR. AFTER LOOKING ONLINE I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE AND THAT 2001-2004 ESCAPES WERE RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE.
BACK PASENGER WHEEL WELL IS ALL RUSTED OUT, THE BO;TS EVEN RUSTED OUT AND ARE MISSING THE TRUCK IS UNDRIVABLE AND IS NOT SAFE. I WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED ALOT OF BANGING, PULLED OVER THINKING THE BACK DOOR WASNT CLOSED PROPERLY. BUT FOUND THE RUSTED WHEEL WELL. I CAN PUSH ON THE WELL AND IT JUST CRUMBLES! THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS BEFORE SOMEONE IS INJURED!
ALMOST SUDDENLY, A LOUD RATTLING SOUND FROM THE REAR STARTED LAST WEEK. WHEN INSPECTED, TO MY SHOCK, THE REAR WHEEL WELL WAS TOTALLY, TOTALLY ROTTED OUT . THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN BEEN GARAGED AND CAREFULLY MAINTAINED SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. IN FACT, FOR THE PAST 8 YEARS--IT HAS BEEN BASICALLY DRIVEN ABOUT 16 -20 MILES PER DAY. AND AGAIN--GARAGED DAY AND NIGHT. AND NOW, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, IT APPEARS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AS A RESULT, I'M NOW SEARCHING FOR ANOTHER CAR TO BUY--NOT WANTING TO SPEND +$1,200 ON THIS REPAIR.
ENGINE OVER ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN CAUSING ENGINE TO RACE, THEN AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS THE ENGINE DOWN. ALSO, IN IDLE POSITION, ENGINE RPMS EXCESSIVELY INCREASE AND DECREASE FOR NO APPARENT REASON. BOTH PROBLEMS HAPPENED WHILE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND ALSO WHILE IN MOTION SPIRATICALLY AT ANY GIVEN TIME, AT AT ANY SPEED (FROM IDLEING UP TO 80 MPH).
2005 FORD ESCAPE. REAR PASSENGER SIDE SHOCK MOUNT COMPLETELY RUSTED/BROKEN. WHEEL WELL AND FENDER COMPLETELY ROTTED OUT WHILE THE REST OF THE VEHICLE HAS NO RUST AT ALL. WHY HAS FORD NOT RECALLED THE 2005 ESCAPE, AFTER SEEING THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE EXHAUST SERVICED AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, THE MECHANIC WOULD NOT LIFT THE VEHICLE TO DO THE EXHAUST SERVICING STATING THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND THERE WAS A CHANCE THE FRAME WOULD FRACTURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURE WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000. UPDATED 01/05/2017*CT
I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY GRANDMOTHERS DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD BANGING NOISE. ONCE GETTING OUT AND INSPECTING I NOTICED ON THE BACK RIGHT PASSENGER SIDE IT WAS RUSTED OUT AND THE SHOCK MOUNT WAS DETACHED. WHY ARE THERE NO RECALLS WITH ALL THE COMPLIANTS? SOME PEOPLE CAN'T AFFORD $1,500 REPAIRS ON A CAR WHEN THE MANUFACTURERS USED BAD UNDERCOATING.
WHILE DRIVING WE NOTICED A REALLY LOUD BANGING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. UPON LOOKING AROUND WE NOTICED SIGNIFICANT RUST INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL AREA. TOOK IT TO A BODY SHOP AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE SHOCK MOUNT IS RUSTED OUT. I TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER WHO SAID THAT THEY GET A COUPLE OF THESE A WEEK. THE COST IS AT LEAST $1.500 PER SHOCK MOUNT. IF THERE'S A SEPARATION FROM THE SHOCK MOUNT IT COULD CAUSE YOU TO LOOSE CONTROL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY WITH THE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS WITH THIS "KNOWN PROBLEM " FORD ISN'T DOING A RECALL! DISPLAYED "STOP SAFELY NOW" WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED ENGINE OFF. RESTARTED AND DROVE A FEW MILES AND RECEIVED NOTICE AGAIN. REPEATED THIS CYCLE ABOUT 10 TIMES BEFORE I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO MAKE IT HOME. HAD DEALER SERVICE CAR AND DO A BATTERY FAN RECALL. DROVE OKAY FOR A MONTH BUT NOW I AM GETTING THE SAME ERROR AND HAVING TO SHUT THE VEHICLE DOWN AND RESTART. *TR

VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A NOISE IN PASSENGER REAR WHEEL. UPON INSPECTION I OBSERVED THAT THE WELL WAS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH WHERE THE SHOCK IS MOUNTED. LEARNED THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT FROM THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS
ENGINE PCM (COMPUTER) FAILS DUE TO A DEFECT, CAUSING TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WHICH THE MANUFACTURER REFUSES TO RECALL, REPAIR, OR WARRANTY. FAULTY SPARK PLUGS INSTALLED AT THE FACTORY, ALONG WITH DEFICIENT DRIVER TRANSISTORS IN THE PCM, LEAD TO A MALFUNCTION WHICH STALLS THE ENGINE. VEHICLE WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN IT OCCURRED, AND EXPERIENCED A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER. *TR
BACK PASSENGER SHOCK MOUNT COMPLETELY RUSTED OUT AND FOUND OVER 500 COMPAINTS FOR SAME EXACT PROBLEM.
THE BACK REAR WHEEL WELL RUSTED THROUGH AND THE SHOCK WENT THROUGH THE "FLOOR" AND PANEL OF THE SUV. I BOUGHT THIS WITH 65,000 MILES ON IT AND NOW HAS 89,000 AND I CAN'T DRIVE IT AND NO ONE WILL FIX IT. I PAID $8500. FOR A SUV THAT I ONLY DROVE FOR 11/2 YEARS. I DRIVING AND HEARD A THUMPING SOUND SO I STOPPED AND DIDN'T SEE ANYTHING. I DROVE 1/2 MILE TO MY HOUSE AND THE NOISE WAS VERY LOUD, I LOOKED AGAIN TO SEE THAT THE SHOCK BROKE THROUGH THE PANEL AND NOT ANY OF IT IS CONNECTED TO THE BODY OF THE TRUCK. I GOT ON A COMPLAINT WEBSITE AND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AT THE SAME SPOT ON THE VEHICLE. WHEN WE BOUGHT THE SUV MY HUSBAND GOT ON HIS BACK AND LOOKED AT THE UNDERCOATING AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. THE MUFFLER BROKE AND THE MECHANIC HAD MY HUSBAND TO LOOK UNDER THE SUV AND EVERYTHING IS RUSTED. THE MECHANIC SAID THE UNDERCOAT WAS FAULTY AND TRAPPED MOISTURE BETWEEN IT AND THE BODY OF THE SUV. THIS THING IS FALLING OUT FROM UNDERNEATH ME. THE LEFT REAR IS RUSTED OUT AND THIS ONLY STARTED HAPPENING ABOUT 3 MONTHS AGO. EVERYWHERE THERE IS A SEAM, RUST IS FORMING. I BLAMED IN ON THE DEALER FOR SELLING ME A FLOOD CAR, UNTIL I DID MORE RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT HUNDREDS OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEMS. FORD RECALLED OTHER VEHICLES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, WHY DID THEY KEEP DOING THE SAME THING? I AM UNEMPLOYED AND THIS IS MY TRANSPORTATION. I HAVE TO DRIVE IT, HOPEFULLY I WON'T KILL MYSELF OR ANYONE ELSE WHEN IT FALLS APART ON THE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 183,000.
THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR SHOCK TOWER IS RUSTED TO THE POINT WHERE THE TOP OF THE SHOCK IS NOT SECURED TO THE UNI-BODY FRAME. WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP THERE IS METAL TO METAL CONTACT. WHILE NOT RUSTED COMPLETELY THROUGH, A SCREWDRIVER CAN BE EASILY POKED THROUGH THE RUSTY METAL ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SHOCK TOWER AS WELL. THIS HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN SLOWLY RUSTING THE LAST FEW YEARS BUT WAS NOT VISIBLE UNTIL THE INNER PANELS WERE REMOVED ALLOWING ACCESS TO THE INNER WHEEL WELLS. MY GRANDCHILDREN HAD BEEN RIDING IN THEIR CAR SEATS IN THIS VEHICLE. A REAR OR REAR SIDE ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC.
THE REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL HAS CORRODED VERY SEVERELY. THE SHOCK ABSORBER IS PUSHING INTO THE INTERIOR WHEEL COVER, CAUSING IT TO BECOME DISLODGED. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, ABOUT 35 MPH, WHEN I HEAR A LOUD SCRAPING SOUND COMING FROM THE RIGHT REAR SIDE OF MY ESCAPE. I NOTICED THAT THE INTERIOR WHEEL COVER WAS DISLODGED AND MOVING AROUND. I PULLED OVER INTO A LOCAL PARK TO EXAMINE WHAT WAS CAUSING THE VERY LOUD SCRAPING SOUND. I COULD SEE THAT THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL WELL AREA WAS VERY RUSTED AND FLAKY. I DROVE HOME ABOUT 10-15 MPH, ALL THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A VERY LOUD BUMPING AND SCRAPING SOUND. I CONSULTED A FORD MECHANIC AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DRIVEN SAFELY. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THE MANY HUNDREDS OF FORD ESCAPES THAT HAVE RUSTED OUT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL WELLS, THAT CAN CAUSE SUDDEN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL WHEN THE SHOCK ABSORBER PUSHES INTO THE CAR AND THE VEHICLE COLLAPSES ONTO THE RIGHT REAR WHEEL.
I HAVE A 2005 FORD ESCAPE THAT STARTED MAKING SOUNDS IN THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING IN THE TOWN STREETS COMING HOME WHEN I HIT BUMPS. WE LOOKED AT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WELL AND THE SHOCK MOUNT IS RUSTED THROUGH. THE BODY IS RESTING ON THE COIL. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT DUE TO THE DANGER OF THE BODY COMING DOWN ON THE WHEEL.
WENT TO REPLACE REAR SHOCKS. REAR PASSENGER WHEEL WELL HAS RUSTED AND I COULD MOVE SHOCK MOUNT TOWER WHEN TRUCK IS BOUNCED. ALSO HAVE BANGING AND BOUNCING GOING ON. RIDES ROUGH AND HAVE A RUST HOLE AND CAN SEE TIRE BELOW. BAD ENGINEERING DESIGN. THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY SHOULD FESS UP AND CORRECT THIS, BUT THEY WON'T THEY GOT THEIR MONEY!!!
RIGHT REAR SHOCK TOWER MOUNT IS COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY. THE SHOCK HAS FORCED THE TOWER UP INTO THE WHEEL WELL, THROUGH THE PLASTIC IN THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. FORD ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM FOR 2001-2004 ESCAPE VEHICLES MANUFACTURED, BUT NOT FOR THE 2005 MODEL WHICH HAS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.

DESPITE THIS RECALL, WHEN I ASKED FORD SERVICE AT TWO DIFFERENT LOCATIONS IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS THEY SAID NO BECAUSE THEY DIDN'T WANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN FACT, AT ONE DEALERSHIP, I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK WITH A DAMAGED WINDOW AND THEY REFUSED TO REPAIR IT AS WELL. I'M ASKING FOR AN INVESTIGATION INTO THIS DEFECT, A RECALL TO BE ISSUED AND FOR FORD TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE IN THESE VEHICLES.
ABS LIGHT ON, VERY WEAK AND DIMINISHED BRAKING POWER, ALMOST NOT STOPPING, VEHICLE WAS OFF, THEN NOTICED UPON STARTUP, 123K MILES ON VEHICLE, FORD STATES IT COULD BE UP TO A $5K REPAIR WHICH FAR EXCEEDES THE VALUE OF THIS VEHICLE, SUSPECT PART IS THE HCU HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WHICH PRESSURIZES THE BREAK SYSTEM BEFORE START UP, ALSO NOTICED THIS PUMP ISN'T COMING ON ANYMORE, FORD SAYS THEY WON'T COVER ANYTHING OF REPAIR, NO MORE FORDS OR CHEVY'S FOR ME!, YOU HAVE TO KILL AT LEAST 125 PEOPLE BEFORE THEY WILL RECALL ANYTHING JUST LIKE THE $2.25 IGNITION KEY RECALL, WHAT ABOUT THE 180+ PEOPLE FORDS PINTO EXPLODING FUEL TANKS, BECAUSE OF BREAK AWAY FUEL NECKS, LIVES AREN'T WORTH $8EA, TO INSTALL THE RUBBER BLADDER ARE THEY?, THANKS FOR MAKING ANOTHER THROW AWAY CAR JUST LIKE THE CHEVY VEGA, NOW FORD HAS ANOTHER TO ADD TO PINTO, EDSEL, MAVERICK? I HAVE MADE A COMPLAINT WITH FORD AS WELL AS ON HERE IN HOPES THAT FORD WOULD DO THE RESPONSIBLE THING AND TAKE CARE OF IT. IT IS QUITE OBVIOUSLY FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND IS REFUSING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. IT IS HARD TO MISS THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. NOT TO MENTION FORD HAS ALREADY RECALLED THE 2001-04 FOR THIS EXACT SAME ISSUE.
