2008 FORD ESCAPE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO POWER STEERING ASSIST SAFETY RECALL. *LD THE CONSUMER WANTED TO BE INCLUDED IN A POWER STEERING ASSIST RECALL. THE VEHICLE'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER REFUSED TO INCLUDE THE VEHICLE IN THE POWER STEERING ASSIST RECALL. *JS
POWER STEERING WENT OUT AFTER HAVING TRUCK FOR ONLY 6 MONTHS. I HAVE TO GET SUSPENSION PROBLEMS FIXED EVERY OTHER MONTH. AND THE MUFFLER EVERY OTHER MONTH.
HIT BRAKES HARD AND ABS HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT FAILED, TWO INCHES FROM VERY BAD WRECK THAT COULD HAVE KILLED PEOPLE.
BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED TO FLOOR WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES PER HOUR. APPLIED BRAKES AND COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD. THEN CAR LOST ALL ACCELERATION POWER. A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED.
LOSS OF ELECTRIC POWER STEERING, JUST LIKE OTHER 2008 FORD ESCAPES. DASH LIGHT CAME ON THAT SAID "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" AND WHILE DRIVING POWER STEERING COMPLETELY WENT OUT.
"WRENCH" INDICATOR LIGHT AND VEHICLE SYMPTOMS OF HIGH RPMS IN TEH 3.5 TO 4 RANGE AT LOW SPEEDS (CYCLING FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND AND 2ND TO 3RD) ON CITY STREETS 0-35 MPH. ENGINE CODES NOT YET READ, BUT SIMILAR ISSUES REPORTED AS A FAULT IN THE THROTTLE BODY. CONSUMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 13N03 HAS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM FOR SAME MAKE AND MODEL STARTING IN MANUFACTURING YEAR OF 2009. MY CAR HAS A MANUFACTURE DATE OF 01/07, THOUGH IT IS A 2008 AND IS ONLY ABOUT 126,000 MILES. THIS THROTTLE BODY FAULT SHOULD BE IDENTIFIED IN OTHER YEARS OF MANUFACTURE IF THE REPORTS ARE DOCUMENTED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DIFFICULT TO DEPRESS AND BECAME STUCK IN THE DEPRESSED POSITION INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING HAS MALFUNCTIONED. THE STEERING WHEEL MOVES ON ITS ON WHILE THE VECHILE IS STARTED. THE STEERING WHEEL IS HARD TO TURN WHILE IN "DRIVE" OR IN "REVERSE". WHILE DRIVING FROM WORK, I EXPERIENCED THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKING AND WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, THEN BACK ON, THE ELECTRIC STEERING STARTED TO WORK AGAIN BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME.
WE GOT SUCKERED BY FORDS RECALL IN 2014 WHEN THEY SENT OUT THE LETTER AND UPDATED THE SOFTWARE TO FIX THE POWER STEERING ISSUE. WHICH FORD [XXX] WELL KNEW WOULD NOT FIX THE FAULTY TORQUE SENSOR. SO HERE WE ARE MARCH 17 2017. MY GIRL FRIEND, OUR LITTLE GIRL AND ME. ON OUR WAY BACK TO MY PARENTS HOUSE, A 4 HOUR DRIVE. AFTER TRAVELING DOWN I80 FOR 3 HOURS WE EXITED ONTO A TWO LANE HIGHWAY. NOT TOO LONG DOWN THIS RURAL IOWA HIGHWAY OUT STEPS A SMALL DOE. (FEMALE DEER) I MAKE A QUICK DIRECTION CHANGE AND APLLY THE BREAKS QUICKLY. THE EXACT MOMENT THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. LUCKILY FOR US I WAS DRIVING AND NOT MY OL LADY. AS IM ALMOST CERTAIN SHE WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE CORRECTED AND KEPT ON THE ROAD. THIS IS LUDACRIS THAT FORD HAS NOT BEEN MADE TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM. THEY [XXX] WELL KNEW IT WAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS FAULTY SENSOR WHEN THEY CAME UP WITH THE SCAM RECALL IN 2014. HOW COULD THEY BE ALLOWED TO CONTINUE TO LET FAMILIES DRIVE WITH THESE TICKING TIME BOMBS. HOW MANY CHILDERN NEED TO DIE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE PARTS OF THIS DOCUMENT HAVE BEEN REDACTED TO PROTECT PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).
ESCAPE RECALL 14S05. WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROUTE 40 IN ELKTON MARYLAND, THE STEERING LOCKED UP MAKING IF VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE/STEER THE TRUCK. THIS OCCURRED AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL LETTER AND TAKING THE TRUCK TO ELKTON FORD FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. WE TOOK THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER, LET THEM KNOW WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY WOULD NOT LET THEM REPAIR. NOTE: THEY DID NOT COMPLETE THE REPAIR AS OUTLINED IN THE RECALL LETTER.
A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEEL THAT IS EVIDENT BY A KNOCKING SOUND. THIS OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOBILE AS WELL AS IN THE STOPPED OR IDLING POSITION. THERE ARE ARE VIDEOS ONLINE AT YOU TUBE SHOWING EVIDENCE OF THIS EXACT SAME MALFUNCTION IN A 2008 MERCURY MARINER. AN EXISTING RECALL NUMBER OF 14S05 IS NOT VALID ON MY VEHICLE, WHY NOT??

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH AND WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE PEDAL REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. ON MARCH 11, 2017 WHEN I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE TO DRIVE IT; THE POWER STEERING DID NOT WORK. I SLOWLY DROVE IT TO THE NEAREST FORD GARAGE WHO CHARGED ME TO INSPECT IT AND SAID IT NEEDED A NEW STEERING COLUMN, COST $1400+ AND WAS UNDER A RECALL BUT THE RECALL WAS NO LONGER AVAILABLE.
I RECENTLY EXPERIENCED POWER STEERING ISSUES WITH MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE. I TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF MY VEHICLE. I HAVE NEVER BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENTS IN THIS VEHICLE OR HAD ANY MECHANICAL ISSUES. THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SHAKING WHILE DRIVING IT HOME ON FRIDAY AND BECAME INCREASINGLY HARDER TO STEER. WHEN THIS HAPPENED I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 15MPH IN TOWN. I PARKED IT RIGHT AWAY. THE NEXT DAY I WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL AT ALL. THE VEHICLE STARTS BUT IS COMPLETELY UNABLE TO BE DRIVEN. AFTER RESEARCHING MORE ON THIS ISSUE, I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2008 FORD ESCAPES FOR THIS SAME ISSUE. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED, THEY HAD ME GIVE THEM MY VIN NUMBER. THEY THEN INFORMED ME THAT MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE DID NOT QUALIFY FOR RECALL REPAIRS AND THE RECALL ONLY APPLIES TO VEHICLES WITH A SPECIFIC VIN NUMBER. I WANTED TO REACH OUT AND SEE IF THERE IS ANYTHING I CAN DO TO GET THIS RESOLVED CONSIDERING THIS IS A MECHANICAL ISSUE OUT OF MY CONTROL AND MAY BE A MANUFACTURING ERROR. MULTIPLE EPISODES OF "STOP SAFELY NOW" (AFTER NEW ENGINE ($8000) WAS PUT IN 6/2014). AT TIME OF ENGINE REPLACEMENT, RECALL FOR POWER STEERING MODULE WAS COMPLETED. FAST FORWARD TO 3/2017.... MONDAY MORNING (8AM) NEW 'WRENCH' LIGHT GOES ON IN DASH. DROP KIDS AT DAYCARE AND WHEN I RESTART CAR (830AM) AND WENT TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY - NO POWER STEERING!!! GOOD THING FORD TOOK CARE OF THAT RECALL BACK IN 2014...*SARCASM* NOW THEY SAY THAT THE ONLY WAY IT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER RECALL WAS IF LOSS OF POWER STEERING OCCURRED WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF RECALL BEING COMPLETED. THIS CAR HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A HEADACHE AND 2 FORD DEALERSHIPS THAT DO NOT STAND BEHIND THE FORD NAME OR THEIR SERVICE!
TURNING RIGHT ONTO A MAJOR INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE TO EFFECTIVELY MERGE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. AFTER LETTING OFF THE GAS, THEN REAPPLYING THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE FINALLY BEGAN TO INCREASE IT'S SPEED. TOOK IT INTO THE DEALER, DISCOVERED THE VEHICLE WOULD NEED IT'S 2ND TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL IN LESS THAN 18 MONTHS.
SHITTING CABLE CAME OFF TRANSMISSION . IT SAID IT WAS IN PARK BUT WHEN I TRIED TO GET OUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO MOVE FORWARD.CAR WAS ON STREET AT TIME. COULD NOT PUT CAR BACK IN PARK

I HAVE A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID, ON 03.02.17 WHEN I WENT TO LEAVE FOR WORK, A WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON IN MY CAR. WHEN I DID SOME RESEARCH I FOUND A LOT OF RECALL NOTICES OF FOR THIS-PRIOR TO THIS, WHEN AT AN IDLE MY STEERING WHEEL HAD RECENTLY STARTED TO VIBRATE-THE CAR DROVE PERFECTLY FINE TO WORK. AS I LEFT FROM WORK THAT DAY, I HAD NO STEERING!! IT WAS WORSE THAN DRIVING A CAR WITH NO POWER STEERING. I WAS SCARED AND ALMOST GOT INTO AN ACCIDENT GOING HOME DUE TO THIS!! I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND IT PULLED A CODE B2278-STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR MALFUNCTION-WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT THE RECALL FOR MY YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL WERE FOR. WELL, FORD STATES MY VIN NUMBER DOESN'T QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!! I WAS ALMOST IN AN ACCIDENT AND IT IS THE EXACT SAME THING THAT THE RECALL WAS FOR!!! I WANT FORD TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS. THEY CAN'T PICK AND CHOOSE WHICH VEHICLES QUALIFY AND DON'T WHEN IT IS THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM.
MAKING A TURN TODAY MARCH 1,2017 ON A MAIN STREET THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN. THE DASHBOARD ERROR MESSAGE STATED POER STEERING ASSIST FAULT. CALLED DEALERSHIP SINCE I READ ONLINE OF A RECALL FOR THIS MALFUNCTION BUT THEY SAID MY VIN IS NOT INCLUDED. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS SINCE TURNING THE WHEEL IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND UNSAFE TO DRIVE!!!
FORD WON'T HONOR RECALL 14S05 THEY DID A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND BUT NOW I NEED AN ENTIRE POWER STEERING TORQUE SENSOR REPLACED AND THEY WON'T COVER THAT. WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL 180 DEGREES EITHER FROM FULL RIGHT TO FULL LEFT OR FULL LEFT TO FULL RIGHT, THE STEERING WHEEL STICKS, THEN RELEASES. FORD LOOKED AT THE ISSUE, REPLACED THE STEERING COLUMN, REPROGRAMMED THE ELECTRONIC TORQUE SENSOR UNDER THE PREVIOUS RECALL NOTICE AND THE PROBLEM REMAINS. THE ISSUE STARTED IMMEDIATELY AFTER REPLACING THE INNER AND OUTER TIE RODS. FORD SAYS THE STEERING RACK NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, I WANT TO KNOW WHY THIS STARTED HAPPENING AFTER THE TIE RODS WERE REPLACED AS THERE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ANY INTERACTION WITH THE STEERING RACK ELECTRONICS. THIS OCCURS EVERY DAY AS I BACK OUT OF MY GARAGE INTO MY TURNAROUND AREA (SHARP RIGHT) FOLLOWED BY A FULL LEFT TO GO DOWN THE DRIVEWAY. IT ALSO HAPPENED IN LEAVING A GAS STATION ENTERING A PUBLIC STREET WHERE A FULL LEFT WAS FOLLOWED BY A FULL RIGHT IN TRAFFIC. ANY IDEAS ON WHAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS?
FORD HAD RECALL 14S05 BACK IN OCTOBER OF 2014. IT WAS FOR THE TORQUE SENSOR ON THE STEERING COLUMN. IF THE PART WAS ALREADY NOT WORKING THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE HARDWARE. THEY SAID IF IT WAS NOT A SOFTWARE FIX WOULD DO IT. WE HAD THAT DONE. NOW 24K MILES LATER THE EXACT PART HAS GONE OUT AND FORD IS SAYING THEY WILL NOT REPLACE IT. I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT. THAT MAKES NO SENSE. IT WENT OUT ON MY BACK OUT OF A DRIVEWAY. IF IT HAD GONE OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING I WOULD HAVE WRECKED. HOW CAN THEY NOT STAND BEHIND A RECALL LIKE THAT? HOW IS THAT POSSIBLY LEGAL?
I WAS DRIVING AND LOST ALL POWER STEERING. THEN A ERROR MESSAGE CAME ON SAYING POWER STEERING SENSOR FAULT. I COULD HAVE GOT INTO A CRASH AND AM REALLY UPSET AND FEEL LIKE FORD SHOULD FIX THIS.
"CHECK BRAKES" AND "ABS" LIGHTS CAME ON, THEN "REGENERATIVE BRAKE SYSTEM DISABLED" ILLUMINATED, WARNING SOUNDED. TOOK CAR FOR REPAIR. MECHANIC PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC, THEN BLED ALL 4 BRAKE SYSTEMS. LIGHTS WENT OFF AND BRAKES WORKED. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, SAME LIGHTS CAME ON AND WARNING BELL SOUNDED. BRAKES WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. RETURNED CAR TO MECHANIC. INSPECTED, THEN TOLD IT MIGHT NEED REGENERATIVE BRAKE SYSTEM REPLACEMENT. WARNING LIGHTS WERE OFF, BUT ILLUMINATED AGAIN A COUPLE OF HOURS LATER (02/22/17) TOOK CAR TO AUTOFAIR FORD, MANCHESTER, NH.WHERE BRAKES FAILED WHILE ENTERING DEALERSHIP AT 15 MPH. THEY KEPT CAR OVERNIGHT, SPENT 4 HOURS LABOR, BLED BRAKES, AND SAID CAR WAS FIXED (CHARGED $280). COUPLE HOURS LATER ALL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, WARNING BELL SOUNDED AND LOST ALMOST ALL BRAKING CAPACITY WHILE ON HIGHWAY 93 SOUTH HEADING SOUTH TOWARDS BOSTON. CALLED FORD AND THEY TOLD ME THAT CAR NEEDED NEW REGENERATIVE BRAKING SYSTEM AND COMPUTER MODULE. COST OF EQUIPMENT ALONE WAS QUOTED AT APPROX. $6000 WITHOUT LABOR. AM IN THE PROCESS OF TRADING THE CAR. WITHOUT FUNCTIONAL BRAKES, CAR IS VIRTUALLY WORTHLESS. WHEN BRAKES WERE DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR AT LOW SPEEDS, BRAKES DID NOT STOP CAR; VEHICLE COASTED TO A STOP. IN SHORT, 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID SUFFERED CATASTROPHIC BRAKE FAILURE.

THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) AS A POSSIBLE SOLUTION TO THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT PROVIDED.
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING WHEN POWER STEERING WENT OUT, HE WAS TURNING LEFT ON TO MAIN ROAD OUT OF OUR SUBDIVISION, HAD TO SLAM ON BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING CINDER BLOCK WALL, COULD OF EASILY BEEN KILLED. THANKFULLY WAS GOING SLOW.
THE POWER STEERING NO LONGER IS WORKING. WE ARE TOLD IT IS A SENSOR PROBLEM. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR OTHER ESCAPES FROM THIS YEAR WITH THIS ISSUE BUT NOT OURS. IT IS SAME ISSUE AND SHOULD BE ADDRESSED.
YELLOW ABS LIGHT AND RED EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING. BRAKE PETAL WENT SOFT TO THE POINT WHERE BRAKING WAS DIFFICULT. A FORD SERVICE CENTER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND INDICATED THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE PART COSTS $4800 DOLLARS AND THE TOTAL REPAIR IS $5300. THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM FOR THE ESCAPE HYBRID. AND IN MY CASE, RENDERS THE VEHICLE ESSENTIALLY WORTHLESS SINCE THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS SLIGHTLY MORE THAN THE VALUE OF TAHE VEHICLE ITSELF. I'VE BEEN GIVEN NO ALTERNATIVES OR OPTIONS. *TT *CN

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ON PERUSING THRU THE INTERNET, I FOUNT THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 ON EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEMS AND ARE ADVISED TO CHANGE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT WITH A COST IN EXCESS O $7000.00. I'M CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING THE SAME STEERING ISSUE AND NOW HAVE TO REPLACE THE TORQUE CENSOR AND FORD IS REFUSING TO HONOR/ASSIST/ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM IS RESIDUAL OF THE INITIAL RECALL. I'M FORCED TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR WHAT SHOULD BE STILL CONSIDERED A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. AFTER OVER A MILLION VEHICLES BEING RECALLED, HOW DO THEY FIGURE A SOFTWARE PATCH FIXED THE PROBLEM? WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM A FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE WHO WAS NOT VERY HELPFUL OR CONCERNED, I LOST ALMOST ALL STEERING AND NARROWLY MISSED GOING OFF THE SIDE OF 64 WEST AFTON MOUNTAIN IN VIRGINIA. I'M MISSING WORK AND STRANDED AND WILL HAVE TO DRAIN MY ACCOUNT FOR A REPAIR THAT IS CLEARLY A FORD DEFECT. HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED IN FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BUSINESS ETHICS. I AM A CERTIFIED MASTER MECHANIC AND RE-CERTIFED MASTER 5 TIMES BUT COULD NOT HELP MY WIFE WHILE SHE WAS IN ANOTHER STATE VISITING HER MOTHER. THE NHTSA RECALL # IS 14V284000. I CONTACTED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIP CENTER AND THEY OFFERED NO HELP. THE CAR HAS 88,000 MILES
FORD ESCAPE APPROACHED A CITY STREET INTERSECTION WITH RIGHT AWAY BY GREEN LIGHT. A TRUCK RAN THE RED LIGHT OF SAME INTERSECTION. THE FORD ESCAPE VEERED TO LEFT TO AVOID BEING DIRECTLY HIT BY TRUCK. AIR BAGS OF FORD ESCAPE DID NOT DEPLOY, WHEREAS THEY DID IN THE TRUCK.
