WHEN TRYING TO BRAKE THE BRAKE PETAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND REPAIR. AFTER SPENDING HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR A NEW MASTER CYLINDER,ROTORS,CALIBERS,BRAKE PADS BLEEDING IF THE BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES WE WERE THEN TOLD THAT THE ABS MODULE HAD TWO VALVES STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. THIS PART SHOULD LAST THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR AND THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS TO FORD ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS MAKE AND MODULE. FORD NEEDS A TO DO HE RIGHT THING AND DO A RECALL ON THEIR ABS MODULE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD BECOME HARD TO TURN CAUSING PARTIAL LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A WRENCH (POWER TRAIN FAULT WARNING) WOULD APPEAR ON THE INSTRUMENTAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN OR TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER FOR DIAGNOSES OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 120,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTIFICATION FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE PSCM AND IC TO THE LATEST LEVEL, BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AGAIN WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 121,688. UPDATED 03/29/17LJ CONSUMER STATED THAT THEY HAD REPAIRS DONE BY A DIFFERENT DEALER AND HAVE HAD NO INCIDENTS SINCE. CONSUMER IS LOOKING FOR REIMBURSEMENT. *CN
JANUARY 2017 PULLING INTO A PARKING LOT I FELT A JOLT AND HAD NO ABILITY TO STEER. I WAS ABLE TO COAST INTO A PARKING SPACE WHERE I TURNED OFF MY ESCAPE. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED THE CAR AND PUT IT IN REVERSE. STILL NO ABILITY TO STEER. TURNED OFF ESCAPE & PHONED MY HUSBAND. HE CAME AND TRIED TO STEER THE ESCAPE BUT COULDN'T DO IT WITHOUT A GREAT EFFORT. THE NEXT MORNING WE TOOK IT TO OUR LOCAL GARAGE WHO ADVISED US TO TAKE IT TO THE FORD GARAGE. WE DID AND WERE TOLD IT NEEDED A STEERING COLUMN. THE SERVICE REP TOLD US THIS WAS COMMON IN THE ESCAPES AND TO KEEP OUR RECEIPT BECAUSE FORD MAY HAVE A RECALL. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR AND RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT THIS ESCAPE WAS RECALLED AND SERVICED IN JUNE OF 2014. THE FORD MOTOR CO TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THAT COULD BE DONE SINCE IT WAS SERVICED FOR THIS ISSUE. I TOLD THE REP THAT I WANTED FORD TO KNOW THAT THE RECALL HAVING BEEN DONE LESS THAN 3 YEARS PRIOR TO MY REPAIR DID NOT ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM AND COST ME $1400. THEN THE REP TOLD ME SHE WOULD REPORT MY NEGATIVE COMMENT AND 'IS THERE ANYTHING FORD CAN HELP YOU WITH TODAY?'
POWER STEERING FAILED REPEATEDLY. RECEIVED RECALL14S05 AND TOOK TO LEHIGHTON FORD 18235 JUNE 21, 2016. EVEN AFTER REPORTING FAILURE, THE ACTION TAKEN WAS TO REPROGRAM THE COMPUTER MODULE. JANUARY 29, 2017 POWER STEERING FAILED AND WOULD NOT RECOVER WHILE DRIVING ON A MAIN THOROUGHFARE AND ATTEMPTING TO TURN INTO A PARKING LOT. TOOK TO FREEDOM FORD DEALERSHIP IN MORGANTOWN, WV WHERE FAILURE OCCURRED. IT WAS DETERMINED THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH SHOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF ON INITIAL RECALL APPOINTMENT. AFTER MULTIPLE CONTACTS WITH FORD, I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THE RECALL WAS CLOSED ONCE THE REPROGRAMMING TOOK PLACE AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $1200 FOR THE RESULTING REPAIRS DUE TO THE POWER STEERING FAILURE. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH, OVER 70,000 CUSTOMERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE FOLLOWING THE USELESS REPROGRAMMING DICTATED BY FORD MOTORS. *TR
WHEN IDLING, STEERING WHEEL JERKS AND MOVES ON ITS OWN AND A CLICKING NOISE CAN BE HEARD SOMETIMES. ALREADY HAD "RECALL" CHECKED AND NO UPDATE WAS NEEDED IN 2014. HAD NO PROBLEMS UNTIL OVER 100K MILES.
WAS DRIVING VEHICLE STEERING BECAME UNMANAGEABLE. ALMOST CRASHED WITH MYSELF AND MY KID. OTHER VINS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE ELECTRONIC STEERING SYSTEM YET MINE IS NOT LISTED. *TR
LOSS OF STEERING DUE TO STEERING TORQUE SENSOR FAILURE WHICH WAS UNDER RECALL #14S05. VEHICLE HAS LOST STEERING CAPABILITY 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 MONTHS WHILE MAKING A SLOW TURN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE STEERING LOST POWER AND "FAULTY POWER STEERING" ILLUMINATED. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER AND THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME. THE DEALER DETERMINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 88,000.
VEHICLE BRAKES FAIL FOR NO APPARENT REASON, THEN EVENTUALLY BEGIN WORKING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. NO WARNING IS GIVEN THAT ANYTHING IS WRONG WITH THE BRAKES (I.E. NO BRAKE LIGHT, AND NO "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT). IN ADDITION, THE "ALL OK" LIGHT REMAINS GREEN, INDICATING THAT NOTHING IS WRONG. THIS OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING AT ANY SPEED (I.E ABOVE 35 MPH OR BELOW 5 MPH). THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY COMES TO A STOP, BUT ONLY AFTER A LENGTHY DECELERATION DISTANCE.*UPDATED 3-7-17 I WOULD SEE A WARNING THAT SAYS 'REGEN BRAKE FAILURE.' IN SOME CASES, DEPRESSING THE PEDAL WOULD CAUSE THE BRAKES TO LOCK-UP. IN OTHER CASES, THE VEHICLE WOULD SLOW DOWN GRADUALLY, BUT WOULD NEVER STOP EVEN IF THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS FULLY PRESSED. IN THE SECOND SITUATION, I WOULD BYPASS MY INTENDED STOP POINT, OFTEN A TURN. THE SITUATION WOULD OCCUR WITHOUT WARNING AND LAST UNTIL I TURNED OFF THE CAR. IT SOMETIMES WENT AWAY AFTER RESTARTING, MEANING THE BRAKES WOULD FUNCTION AS EXPECTED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AND SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL MODULE AND SEVERAL BRAKE LINES. ESTIMATED COST WAS $6200. I CONTACTED FORD TO INQUIRE ABOUT A RECALL, AND WAS TOLD THAT NONE EXISTS FOR THIS SITUATION.*SMCH
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, A BEEPING NOISE WAS HEARD PRIOR TO THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZING AND THE VEHICLE HIT A CURB. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE WITHOUT KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT OF THE RECALL REPAIR. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000.
POWER STEERING ASSIST CUT OUT ON ROUTE 80 AT 65MPH . SMASHED INTO CURB IN REST AREA TRYING TO STOP. REPLACED TIRE
CAR WILL NOT START UNLESS THE KEY IS FORCIBLY INSERTED INTO THE IGNITION. THIS HAS TO BE DONE SEVERAL TIMES. WHEN EXITING THE CAR, IT WILL DING TO ALERT THE DRIVER THAT THE KEY HAS BEEN LEFT IN THE IGNITION BUT THE KEY HAS BEEN TAKEN OUT OF THE IGNITION.
WHEN YOU ARE STOPPED AND IDLING THE CAR, IT STALLS OUT. IT STALLS WHEN IDLING IN GEAR, BUT NOT WHEN IN THE PARK POSITION. IF YOU SLOW DOWN AT A LIGHT OR FOR TRAFFIC OBSTACLES, IT SOMETIMES STALLS BEFORE YOU ACTUALLY STOP. AS LONG AS I HAVE NO STOP LIGHTS OR OTHER OBSTACLES TO SLOW ME DOWN I'M FINE. IT MOSTLY HAPPENS ON CITY STREETS. SOMETIMES BUT NOT ALWAYS IT SEEMS TO BUCK A LITTLE. I AM FEMALE AND KNOW LITTLE ABOUT CARS, MY HUSBAND TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING, THIS WAS HIS VEHICLE, BUT HE PASSED AWAY LAST MONTH AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. I DID HOPE IT WAS THE FUEL FILTER, SO I HAD THAT REPLACED A FEW DAYS AGO. IT DID NOT HELP. WHEN THIS OCCURS NONE OF THE MANY WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH COME ON, NOR DO THEY COME ON OR STAY ON OTHER THAN WHEN YOU FIRST START THE CAR. THIS IS A SITUATION THAT SCARES ME, BUT AT PRESENT, IT IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION, AND THERE ARE MANY THINGS REQUIRED OF ME, RELATING TO MY HUSBAND"S DEATH. I'VE READ ALL THE ISSUES OF STALLING IN MANY FORDS BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER 2008, IN JUST ABOUT EVERY MODEL INCLUDING THE ESCAPE. I BELIEVE THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY CAR. NO DOCUMENTATION, NO ACCIDENTS YET.... THE STALLING HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ALMOST A MONTH. MONTH.
THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE WARNING LIGHT FLASHED 3 TIMES AND THEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. WE HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. THE TORQUE SENSOR THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY COVERED ON THE RECALL FROM JULY 2014 FAILED. FORD IS REFUSING TO FIX THE SENSOR STATING THAT THE RECALL WAS FULFILLED EVEN THOUGH THE SENSOR WAS NOT REPLACED. THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THAT THEY HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER VEHICLES UNDER THE SAME RECALL. I HAVE ATTACHED A LETTER THAT WAS SENT TO FORD ON OUR BEHALF.
THE EAS (ELECTRIC ASSISTED STEERING) MADE A LOUD NOISE BEFORE EVENTUALLY FAILING & NOW THERE IS NO POWER STEERING WHICH CAUSED ME TO SLID OFF ICY ROAD, DRIVING 45MPH, INTO DITCH. *TR
ABS & PARKING BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS, WARNING TONE & REGEN BRAKE MESSAGE ARE DISPLAYED. WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED THE BRAKE PERFORMANCE BECAME "GRABBY" AND OVER TIME THE BRAKES WERE DANGEROUSLY BAD. FOR SEVERAL MONTHS IF I STOPPED THE VEHICLE, TURNED OFF IGNITION AND RESTARTED, THE WARNINGS WOULD GO AWAY AND THE BRAKES WOULD FUNCTION NORMALLY.I INFORMED THE FORD TECHNICIAN THE LAST TIME I HAD REGULAR SERVICE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY FOUND " NO ISSUE" WITH BRAKES. I TOOK VEHICLE BACK TO FORD 06/22/2017 AND THEY TOLD ME THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST IN EXCESS OF $5,800.00. I WILL DISCARD THIS VEHICLE AND REPLACE IT WITH A NON -FORD PRODUCT
THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY. CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM LIGHT APPEARED AS A DIGITAL READ OUT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. TURNED OFF THE ENGINE BELIEVING IT TO BE A 'RESET' ISSUE. THE ABS LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON AGAIN. TWO DAYS LATER, UPON BACKING UP THESE LIGHTS APPEARED AGAIN ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. CALLED LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM. DEALERSHIP PERFORMED ABS SELFTEST AND GOT CODE C1313-AO AND U2023-A0. THE CODES INDICATED THAT THE HCU (HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT) REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. DEALERSHIP QUOTED $5,900.00 REPAIR COST TO REPLACE HCU SENSOR. THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT CAUTION US TO NOT DRIVE THE CAR AND WE REMAIN CONCERNED ABOUT SAFE DRIVING. HE SAID, "THE BRAKES WILL GET MUSHY AND WE WILL EVENTUALLY LOSING BRAKING POWER." CHECKED FORD WEBSITE TO DETERMINE WHETHER A RECALL FOR THIS SAFETY ISSUE HAD BEEN POSTED. NO RECALL BY FORD NOTED AT THIS TIME. A REVIEW OF ONLINE POSTS INDICATES THAT MANY ESCAPE HYBRID OWNERS HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE SAME PROBLEM AND HIGHWAY SAFETY IS CONCERNING TO OWNERS. *TR
FRONT BRAKE LINE KINK OR COMPRESSED AND WOULD NOT FULLY RELEASE BRAKE WHILE DRIVING. BRAKE SUPERHEATED. NEEDED TOW REPLACED BOTH FRONT BRAKE LINES. *TR
THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STICKS OFTEN AND REQUIRES EXTRA FOOT MANIPULATION TO GET IT TO WORK PROPERLY. THIS OCCURS MOSTLY WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AND MAKES PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC A DANGEROUS PROPOSITION. THIS OCCURS ON CITY STREETS AND FROM STOP LIGHTS ON LARGER STATE HIGHWAYS. IT HAS ALSO FAILED TO DEPRESS, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BE IMMOVABLE FOR A TIME.
REMEDY RECALL 14S05 -- POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM) SOFTWARE UPDATE PERFORMED (AS DIRECTED) DID NOT ADEQUATELY REMEDY THE SAFETY DEFECT (THE TORQUE SENSOR ITSELF) AND MAY IN FACT CAUSE FURTHER ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLES POWER STEERING. FORD CURRENTLY DOES NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE FOR REPAIRS UNDER THE SAFETY RECALL. PERHAPS THEY ARE WAITING FOR MORE INJURY /CIVIL LAWSUITS BEFORE ADDRESSING THESE CRITICAL SAFETY CONCERNS. THE NHTSA ALSO PARTLY SHARES THE BLAME FOR THIS ... AFTER ISSUING RECALL 14V-284 (VOQ 10670665), THEY HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE CONTINUED PSCM ISSUES AND HAVE NEGLECTED TO GRANT A DECISION THAT DIRECTLY ADDRESSES THE STEERING WHEEL TORQUE SENSOR DEFECT. SHAME ON YOU. DATE OF RECALL PERFORMED ON 9/3/2014 AT ODO 116,044. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE OBSERVED AND TAKEN INTO DEALERSHIP ON 1/11/2017 AT ODO 139,151. FORD CUSTOMER CARE DENIED ASSISTANCE IN REPLACING THE TORQUE SENSOR AS NOTED IN RECALL 14S05. I WAS TOLD, "THE RECALL ADDRESSED THE SOFTWARE ISSUE, NOT THE DEFECTIVE PART(S) AND TOO MUCH TIME HAS ELAPSED FOR OUR COMPANY TO HELP YOU PAY FOR THE REPAIR." FORD WOULD RATHER ITS DRIVERS (VEHICLES) OPERATE IN CONDITION THAT IS UNSAFE AND AT AN INCREASED RISK OF CRASH OR INJURY, THAN GO THE EXTRA MILE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY CONCERN IS RESOLVED. SEEING AS OTHER PETITIONERS HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AND THIS IS AN OPEN AND ONGOING INVESTIGATION, MYSELF AND OTHER DRIVERS WOULD APPRECIATE AN EXPEDITED RESPONSE FROM THE NHTSA TO RECONCILE AND RE-MEDIATE THIS ISSUE. STEERING TORQUE SENSOR WENT OUT, OVER $700 IN REPAIRS, RECALL 14S05 IN EFFECT FOR THIS MODEL YEAR ON THIS PART, BUT SOMEHOW OUR VIN NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN RECALL AND WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR. STEERING SHAKING, VIBRATING, STIFF. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000. UPDATED 03/07/17*LJ UPDATED 12/04/2017*JS
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS OUT. FORD DEALER INITIALLY FIXED VIA ORIGINAL RECALL (FORD'S NUMBER FOR THIS RECALL IS 14S05.) BY UPDATING THE COMPUTER CODE IN 2014. THE POWER STEERING HAS LOST ALL POWER NOW . THIS IS 2 YEARS LATER, BUT THE LOSS IS DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE ORIGINAL RECALL ISSUE.
WHILE STARTING THE CAR THE WHEEL STARTED SHAKING, YOU CAN HEAR A CLICKING NOISE...WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE WHEEL SHAKES NON STOP AND THE NOISE CONTINUES, FOLLOWED BY A CODE SAYING (POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT). IT'S GETTING WORSE THE MORE WE DRIVE IT. *TR
WHILE PARKED IN A PARKING LOT, DASH WARNING INDICATED "POWER ASSIST STEERING FAILURE" WHEN ENGINE WAS STARTED. STEERING IS NOW CONSIDERABLY HARDER, BORDERING ON IMPOSSIBLE WHILE SITTING STILL. VEHICLE HAD RECALL 14S05 PERFORMED IN OCT 2014. SINCE THERE WAS NO PHYSICAL PROBLEM AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL, A SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS PERFORMED (WHICH WILL DO NOTHING FOR A MECHANICAL FAILURE) AND THE RECALL FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE WAS CLOSED. NOW WITH THE APPARENT MECHANICAL FAILURE OF THE POWER STEERING MOTOR, OR STEERING POSITION SENSOR, OR BOTH, FORD WILL NOT COVER THE REPAIRS DUE TO THE RECALL BEING CLOSED. SO FORD CLOSED THE RECALL BY PERFORMING IT BEFORE THE PARTS FAILED AND NOW EXPECTS THE OWNER TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE $1800 (QUOTE FROM DEALER) TO PERFORM THE REPAIR.
STEERING SHAFT TORQUE SENSOR WENT OUT WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE ON HIGHWAY WHICH MADE IT VERY HARD TO STEER WHEN SLOWING DOWN AND TURNING .IM VERY STRONG AND IT TOOK EFFORT FROM ME TO STEER. IF MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER WOULD HAVE BEEN DRIVING THEY COULD HAVE VERY EASILY HAD AN ACCIDENT! .THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH A LOT OF THESE BUT MY VIN# IS NOT ON THE RECALL ACCORDING TO OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. *TR
THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILED ON MY VEHICLE. THE SYSTEM HAD THE SAME ISSUE BEFORE BUT WAS FIXED FOLLOWING THE 2014 RECALL FOR THE ISSUE. LESS THAN 3 YEARS AFTER THE FIX, THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN.
I TOOK MY CAR IN WHEN THE RECALL 14S05/NHTSA RECALL 14V-284 WAS RECEIVED AND THE DEALERSHIP UPDATED THE APPROPRIATE MODULES TO PREVENT LOSS OF STEERING DUE TO A TORQUE SENSOR FAULT. AT THE TIME OF THE RECALL I WAS NOT HAVING ANY STEERING PROBLEMS, SO I FELT THE MODULE UPDATES WERE TO FIX ANY STEERING PROBLEMS. AS OF JAN 4, 2017, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED VIBRATING WHILE IN IDLE. I DOES NOT DO IT ALL THE TIME. I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH SHOWED THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR WAS BAD AND THEY WILL BE GETTING ME AN ESTIMATE FOR REPAIRS. I WAS TOLD THE PART ITSELF IS RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE, BUT THE LABOR IS INTENSE. I FEEL FORD HAS TAKEN THE EASY WAY OUT OF FIXING A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS PROBLEM. I HAVE ALWAYS DRIVEN FORD CARS, BUT AFTER THIS COSTLY MANUFACTURING DEFECT I MAY SWITCH TO ANOTHER MAKE OF CAR. *TR
GAS PEDAL IS STICKING INTERMITTENTLY
MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE I PURCHASED IN OCTOBER OF 2016 SINCE PURCHASING MY GAS PEDAL COMPLETELY SEIZES WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. I HAVE DONE THE RESEARCH TO PROVIDE THAT OTHER YEARS HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS VEHICLE DOING THIS PUTS NOT ONLY MYSELF BUT MY 4 MONTH OLD CHILD IN DANGER. ALSO, THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY FAILED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED PER A RECALL FOR THE SAME FAILURE IN NOVEMBER OF 2014. THE RECALL INFORMATION WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
IVE HAD REOCCURRING ISSUES WITH MY BRAKES ,ABS SYSTEM , POWER TRAIN , STEERING COLUMN STARTER. OVER THE COURSE OF THREE YEARS AND IT SEEM LIKE THE PROBLEMS KEEP COMING UP . THE ONLY CLOSE CALL I REMEMBERS IS COMING HOME FROM WORK . MAKING A TURN ON TO A STREET, THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY. I COULD HAVE CRASHED IF A HUGE CURB WASNT THERE .

ELECTRIC ASSIST POWER STEERING - MY VEHICLE HAS GONE WITHOUT POWER STEERING FOR OVER 2 YEARS , THERE IS AN ISSUE IN THE ELECTRIC ASSIST TORQUE SENSOR CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO NOT SENSE THE NEED FOR POWER STEERING IN TURNS. THIS BEING A FRONT WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE CAUSES DIFFICULTY IN BEING ABLE TO STEER REGULARLY. I HAVE OBSERVED A RECALL ONLINE FROM THE KANSAS CITY PLANT , MY VEHICLE IS KANSAS CITY BUILT AND I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO MECHANIC SHOP FOR THE REPAIR ONLY TO BE INFORMED THAT FORD WILL NOT COVER THE ISSUE THAT I WILL BE OUT OF POCKET FOR THE REPAIR WORK. THIS WAS A SECONDHAND VEHICLE FOR ME AND FINANCIALLY I WAS AND AM NOT ABLE TO AFFORD THE COSTLY REPAIR OF WHAT THEY WILL CHARGE FOR WORK. THUS LEAVING ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH NO POWER STEERING OR HAVING THE TROUBLE CODE CLEARED TO ALLOW A VERY LOOSE STEERING COLUMN WHERE IT SHAKES AND RATTLES WHILE IDLING AND CAN BE OBSERVED FROM EXTERIOR SIDE SEEING THE DRIVE WHEELS SHAKING AS IF THE VEHICLE IS ATTEMPTING TO TURN ITSELF. THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE BUT I HAVE NO CHOICE AS I DO NOT HAVE ANOTHER VEHICLE OPTION AT THIS TIME. MY CHILDREN TRAVEL IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME AND I FEAR FOR OUR SAFETY WHILE DRIVING IT.
ACUTE LOSS OF POWER STEERING; ON A CITY STREET AT ABOUT 20 MPH WHILE TURNING. I WAS ABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN. MY DAUGHTER, WHO USUALLY DRIVES THIS CAR, WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO COMPLETE THE TURN AND SAFELY STOP ALONG THE CURB.
MY FORD ESCAPE'S POWER STEERING SUDDENLY WENT OUT IN MY WHILE DRIVING, IT MADE THE REST OF THE RIDE HOME FROM WORK EXTREMELY DIFFICULT AND UNSAFE. I DID MY RESEARCH AND FOUND THERE WAS IN FACT A FORD RECALL ON THIS ISSUE FOR MY YEAR AND MODEL CAR, HOWEVER MY VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, ONLY THE SOFTWARE UPDATE WHICH I DID HANDLE IN SEPTEMBER 2014 AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE RECALL STATES THE AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE A STEERING TORQUE SENSOR THAT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY DETECT STEERING INPUT. AS A RESULT COULD REMOVE THE ESP ASSIST (ELECTRIC POWER STEERING) WE TALKED WITH FORD CORPORATE AND THEY SAID IT WAS NOT PART OF RECALL BUT IF THE EXACT PART THAT IS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL THAT WILL BE REPLACED AT NO CHARGE, THEY WOULD WORK WITH US TO HAVE IT REPLACED. WHEN WE BROUGHT IT TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THEY CONFIRMED AFTER GETTING THE ERROR CODE THE TORQUE SENSOR DID NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST US IN FIXING IT AND AFTER 2 CALLS TO A SUPERVISOR WE GOT THEM TO ESCALATE TO FORD THAT STILL DENIED CLAIM, AND SERVICE MANAGER EVEN AGREED THAT IT SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST WHEN WE PICKED IT UP THAT NIGHT. WE CALLED FORD AGAIN AND TALKED WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID IT HAD BEEN TOO LONG SINCE THE SOFTWARE UPGRADE AND NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I WILL BE REPORTING FORD TO THE BBB AND STILL TRYING TO ESCALATE FURTHER AS THIS CAR SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE SAFETY ISSUE. ALL THEY SAID WAS TO REPORT IT TO THE NHTSA SITE.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT DUE TO THE ELAPSED TIME PERIOD BETWEEN THE FAILURE AND THE INITIAL REPAIR, THE COST WOULD BE AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE. ABS CONTROL MODULE / HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT HCU HAS GONE OUT ON MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. IT HAS LEFT ME WITH VERY LITTLE BRAKING ABILITY. IF THIS WAS TO HAPPEN ON THE HWY IT COULD HAVE BEEN CATASTROPHIC. IT IS A $6,000 REPAIR AND IT APPARENTLY REQUIRES A FULL REPLACEMENT OF THE $4,000 PART, THE ABS CONTROL MODULE / HCU. FORD NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS ISSUE AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH THEIR FAULTY HCUS IN THESE CARS!
A REOCCURRING SOFT BRAKE PEDAL ISSUE. SEEMS TO OCCUR AFTER AND HARD BRAKING INCIDENT WHERE THE ABS IS ENGAGED. AFTER A FEW DAYS TO A WEEK THE PEDAL TRAVEL AND FEEL RETURNS TO NORMAL. THIS HAS BEEN A CONTINUAL PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS THAT WE HAVE OWNED IT.

WHILE DRIVING UP A WINDY MOUNTAIN ROAD IN LAKE TAHOE, CA, THE POWER STEERING JUST QUIT WORKING AS WE WERE MAKING A LEFT HAND CURVE. FROM THAT POINT ON, THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. IT WAS LIKE DRIVING A CAR THROUGH QUICKSAND. THE SLOWER THE SPEED, THE HARDER TO TURN. MY HUSBAND DID THE RESEARCH, AND SAW THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED. WE HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING BUT HAD RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD TO TAKE IN FOR A "FLASH" SOFTWARE PROGRAMMING FOR THE CAR. WE TOOK INTO FORD DEALER IN AUGUST 2015. OBVIOUSLY, THE RECALL IS MORE SERIOUS THAN THE FIX THAT WAS APPLIED AND DID NOT KEEP US FROM LOSING THE POWER STEERING IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. FORD CLAIMS THAT THEY DID THEY RECALL, AND THEY ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY FURTHER REPAIRS. I CALL FOUL! THEIR TEMPORARY FIX DID NOT HOLD. I HAVE BEEN POURING OVER FORD FORUMS AND SEE MANY, MANY FORD ESCAPES ARE DOING EXACT SAME THING, LOSING POWER STEERING WHILE DRIVING AND FORD IS REFUSING TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, IT SOUNDED LIKE A HUGE POP OR LIKE A GUN SHOT SOUND AND WHEN WE STOPPED, WE FOUND THAT THE SUNROOF HAD "EXPLODED". THERE WAS NOTHING THAT HIT OUR CAR. I WAS DRIVING AROUND TOWN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULDN'T GO DOWN, I TRIED AGAIN AND THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING WASN'T WORKING, ONLY FELT ABOUT HALF POWER BRAKES. THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND A RED LIGHT THAT SAID CHECK BRAKING SYSTEM. I PULLED OVER AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. RESTARTED THE CAR BACK TO NORMAL.

2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION AT IDLE FOR APPROX. 500 MILES THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET THE POWER STEERING TOTALLY WENT OUT. WRENCH LIGHT WENT ON THE DASH, THEN POWER STEERING TOTALLY GONE. I COULD HARDLY TURN THE STEERING WHEEL TO GET IT HOME WHICH WAS 7 MILES AWAY. 3 MONTHS BEFORE THAT THE AIR CONDITIONER QUIT WORKING IN AUGUST! I HAD A NEW AIR CONDITIONER INSTALLED, THEN A WEEK LATER 2 BLENDER MOTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE AC WAS BLOWING HOT AIR AND HEATER BLEW COLD AIR. THIS MODEL MUST BE A LEMON. AT THIS POINT I THINK THIS CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE! I HAVE NEVER HAD PROBLEMS LIKE THIS FROM FORD. I HOPE THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS MODEL BUT AFTER RESEARCHING IT SOUNDS LIKE FORD IS UNWILLING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT.
