TAKATA RECALL: MY CAR HAS A COUPLE ISSUES WITH THE STEERING. WHILE PARKED AND IDLING THE STEERING WHEEL TWITCHES ON ITS OWN, YOU HAVE TO FIND THE RIGHT LOCATION AND HOLD IT THERE FOR THE TWITCHING TO STOP. WHEN IDLING I CAN HOLD THE SW OFF OF CENTER AND THE TWITCHING WILL ABATE FOR SHORT PERIODS, LESS THAN 10 SECONDS. WHILE DRIVING STREETS FROM 30-60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL ALSO TWITCHES INTERMITTENTLY, PERCEPTIBLE TO TOUCH AND HAS STARTED PULLING TO THE RIGHT SLIGHTLY. NO NOTED SQUEALING OR JERKING NOTED ON FULL WHEEL TURN TO RIGHT OR LEFT. *TR

NOW YOUR SITE TELLS ME THE VIN [XXX] IS AN INVALID NUMBER. HOW CAN THIS BE? WHEN THAT NUMBER IS GOOGLED IT PULLS UP NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS (INCLUDING AT LEAST ONE NHTSA COMPLAINT). MY CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE ON 12/13/2016 AND UPON GOING TO GET GAS THE STEERING TIGHTENED UP WHILE DRIVING TO THE GAS STATION. IT BE CAME VERY HARD TO TURN AND STEER IT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION. I GOT THE CAR HOME AND KEPT IT THERE TIL I CALLED FORD AND SET UP AN APPOINTMENT FOR IT TO BE SERVICED. NOW ON OCT 4 2016 I HAD A RECALL DONE FOR THE TORQUE SENSOR. SALES CODE 58A016 PARTS CODE 02733. TODAY I PICKED UP MY CAR AND HAD TO PAY $699.88 FOR THE EXACT SAME THING THAT THE RECALL WAS DONE FOR AND I WANT TO KNOW WHY AND WHY WASN'T THE RECALL GUARANTEED? *TR
SUDDEN ONSET OF STEERING WHEEL SHAKING WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, DIFFICULTY TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT, WHILE TURNING RIGHT STEERING STOPPED TWICE.
WHILE IDLING THE WARNING MESSAGE "STOP VEHICLE SAFLEY" APPEARED AND THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE. AFTER CUTTING ENGINE OFF TO RESET, THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED AGAIN. AFTER A SHORT TIME OF IDLING AGAIN, THE VEHICLE GAVE THE SAME WARNING MESSAGE. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN A SHORT DISTANCE TO A SAFE PARKING AREA IN "LIMP" MODE. THE VEHICLE THEN HAD TO BE TOWED AND ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY REPLACED.

PULLED INTO DRIVEWAY, STOPPED, PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE - CAR WOULD NOT MOVE, ENGINE JUST REVVED WITHOUT MOVING; PUT IT IN D AND NOTHING AGAIN. TURNED OFF ENGINE, RESTARTED IT, PUT IT IN GEAR AND IT KINDA JERKED BACKWARD. SOMETIMES THE GEARS WOULD ENGAGE, SOMETIMES NOT. NOISE COMING FROM TRANSMISSION AREA SOUNDS LIKE A BLENDER ON LOW SPEED. MILEAGE IS 87,000. IT IS A 4WD. HAVE NOT YET DETERMINED WHETHER IT IS THE TRANSMISSION OR THE TRANSFER CASE - I'M NINE MILES FROM A DEALER/GARAGE AND DON'T THINK I CAN MAKE IT THERE. WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO TOW IT. I'VE PARKED IT IN A GARAGE UNTIL A MECHANIC CAN RESPOND TO MY RESIDENCE. HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH DRIVE TRAIN UNTIL THIS HAPPENED. I'VE READ THAT 2008 ESCAPES HAVE HAD SOME PROBLEMS, BUT THIS ONE IS NOT UNDER RECALL AT THIS TIME. *TR
TORQUE SENSOR AFTER THE EPS MODULE/TORQUE SENSOR SOFTWARE UPDATE IS MALFUNCTIONING AGAIN, WHEEL MOVES ON ITS OWN. WHILE DRIVING AND STATIONARY THE WHEEL TAKES "PHANTOM" MOVEMENTS WITH NO OPERATOR ENCOURAGEMENT. THE UPDATE FROM THE RECALL REGARDING THE TORQUE SENSOR DID NOT EFFECTIVELY FIX THE PROBLEM, THE PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED IN A RECALL. I HAVE REVIEWED AND READ NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM AND THERE IS IN FACT A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN CA AGAINST FORD RIGHT NOW FOR COMPENSATION IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DIRECTION SYSTEM OF THE ELECTRONIC MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 84,000.
2-3 YEARS AGO I HAD ISSUES WITH POWER STEERING GOING IN AND OUT, THEN I AM NOTIFIED OF A RECALL DUE TO POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. I WAS TOLD THE SOLUTION WOULD BE REPROGRAMMING AS OPPOSE TO REPLACING THE FAULTY UNIT. THAT WORKED TEMPORARILY AS NOW THE POWER STEERING IS COMPLETELY OUT OF ORDER. FORD CHARGED ME $140 TO TELL ME I HAVE TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT OF OVER $1300.

I HAVE EXPERIENCED AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. I HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL EPISODES WHILE BRAKING OF THE YELLOW ABS AND THE RED BRAKE WARNING LAMP LIGHTING UP AND THE DISPLAY SAYING "REGEN BRAKES DISABLED" OVER THE PAST YEAR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE BRAKES ARE SLOW TO STOP THE CAR WITH A JERKING ACTION. ALL OF MY FAILURES HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING IN TOWN. ONCE I ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE ONLY WAY I COULD CORRECT THE ISSUE WOULD BE TO STOP THE CAR, DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL HARD TO THE FLOOR,THEN SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE. I WOULD THEN RESTART MY CAR AND THE BRAKES WOULD THEN RETURN TO NORMAL OPERATION. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ON LINE AND HAVE FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE POSTING COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE. ALL COMPLAINTS ARE FROM OWNERS OF FEH'S 2005 TO 2008. WHY HASN'T THIS LIFE SAFETY ISSUE BEEN ADDRESSED? FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, THE REPAIR COULD BE FROM $3000 TO $7000 DOLLARS. AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND TURNING A CORNER, MY POWER STEERING JUST STOPPED WORKING AND I ALMOST DROVE INTO ANOTHER CAR, SO TO AVOID COLLIDING INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC I WENT ONTO THE SHOULDER. ELECTRIC POWER STEERING BEGAN TO INTERMITTENTLY FAIL, NEARLY CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE WHILE IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET. POWER STEERING EXPERIENCED A COMPLETE FAILURE YESTERDAY WHEN TURNING INTO A STORE PARKING LOT AND IS GIVING A FAULT CODE INDICATING STEERING ROTATION SENSOR FAILURE. FORD SHOULD FIX THIS UNDER A RECALL. IT IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT WHICH APPEARS TO AFFECT HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF MODELS.
IN 2016 NOVEMBER MY GAS PEDAL STUCK TO THE FLOOR AND I FREAKED OUT AND RAN INTO MY NEIGHBORS GARAGE AND I HAD 10 FIRED FIGHTERS AND SHERRIFF LOOK AT MY TURNED OFF ESCAPE AND THE ACCELERATED PEDEL WAS COMPLETELY SITTING ON THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE AND IT ALSO WAS TOWED TO FORD AND SAID THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL LINK WAS COMPLETELY BROKE AND IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER INSURANCE FOR THEY SAID THIS IS A MANUFACTURE ISSUE AND NOT INSURANCE AND SO I HAD TO USE THE FRONT END DAMAGE TO PAY FOR THE $1500 REPAIR ON A PART THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKE, FORD HAS NOW OVER 100 COMPLAINTS TO THIS SAY PROBLEM AND NO FIX.....THIS VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND RAMMED A NEIGHBORS GARAGE DOOR AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED AND ALL THE SHERIFF AND FIREFIGHTERS SAY THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN AN ACCELERATOR PEDAL DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR AND I WAS LUCKY....FORD FIX THIS....THIS IS GOING TO KILL SOMEONE AND IT I HAD INJURIES FROM THE WHIPLASH.

WHEN I WOULD TURN OCCASIONALLY THE WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP BUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS I WOULD REGAIN POWER. I PARKED IT AT SCHOOL AND APPROXIMATELY 7 HOURS LATER I RETURNED AND STARTED IT. AS I WAS BACKING OUT THE STEERING ONLY WORKED FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS AND LOCKED UP EXCEPT THIS TIME IT DID NOT CORRECT ITSELF. I TRIED TURNING IT OFF AND ON AGAIN BUT IT WAS NOT FIXING IT. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED. THERE IS A RECALL ON OTHER '08 FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS BUT NOT MINE. ALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM TOO.

KEY IGNITION SWITCH IS DIFFICULT TO WORK. FORD TOLD ME TO PUNCH THE KEY IN HARD THEN TURN, WHICH WORKS MOST OF THE TIME. I'VE READ WHERE IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH LOTS OF OWNERS. TO FIX THE PROBLEM, FORD SAYS IT WILL COST BETWEEN $800.00 - $1000.00, BUT THAT IT MAY HAPPEN AGAIN. NO GUARANTEE. SINCE THIS PROBLEM IS SO PREVALENT, WHY NO RECALL TO FIX THIS COMMON PROBLEM.

SHE DID NOTICE VIBRATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL. I TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND NOTICED IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER OR TURN AT LOW SPEEDS. ALSO THE STEERING/POWERTRAIN WRENCH LIGHT HAD COME LIT. IT WAS EVIDENT THE STEERING ASSIST HAD MALFUNCTIONED. AFTER SOME RESEARCH I BECAME AWARE OF AN ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SAFETY RECALL ON 2008-2011 FORD ESCAPES. WHICH IS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE I'M HAVING ON MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT ACCORDING TO THE VIN NUMBER THERE WAS NO RECALL ANNOUNCED FOR MY VEHICLE. THIS MAKES EXACTLY NO SENSE TO ME BECAUSE ITS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AND VEHICLE FOR WHICH THE RECALL WAS MADE. I'M BASICALLY ON MY OWN TO FIX AT THIS POINT. *TR
FORD HAD A 2015 RECALL FOR POWER STEERING PROBLEMS, DURING WHICH THIS VEHICLE WAS CHECKED. TWO MONTHS AGO MY MECHANIC CHECKED MY STEERING BECAUSE OF A NOISE AND ADVISED ME NOT TO DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY. AS I WAS DRIVING INTO MY DRIVEWAY THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. WHAT IF THIS WENT OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND HAD A BABY IN THE CAR? READING ONLINE OTHER PEOPLE'S EXPERIENCES WITH POWER STEERING PROBLEMS THE CAR SHOULDN'T BE DRIVEN. FORD SHOULD BE MADE TO EXTEND THEIR RECALLS AND GIVE TRADE IN CREDIT TO GET THESE CARS OFF THE ROAD. THEY ARE A DANGER TO ALL. I HAD ALL THE FUSES CHECKED AND UNHOOKED THE BATTERY. THERE WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF POWER AND THE WRENCH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN HOME. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
WE WERE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ON 10/12/16 WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WITHOUT WARNING THE STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT. I COULDN'T TURN RIGHT OR LEFT. I HAD MY FAMILY (WIFE, 2 CHILDREN (1 AUTISTIC) AND DOG) IN THE VEHICLE. WE BARELY AVOIDED A COUPLE ACCIDENTS AND A WALL. MANAGED TO PUSH THE VEHICLE TO SAFETY. I HAD A TOW TRUCK PICK IT UP, TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. TURNS OUT THE RACK AND PINION WENT OUT. THE FORD DEALER SERVICE ADVISOR SAID HE'D HELP ME OUT WITH THE PRICE WHICH WAS ESTIMATED AT 1400 DOLLARS. IT TOOK THE DEALER 6 DAYS TO HAVE MY VEHICLE READY. THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THEY ARE AN INDEPENDENT DEALER. TO TAKE MY ISSUE UP WITH FORD. I CONTACTED THE NUMBER THAT THEY GAVE ME AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP AT FORD SAID THAT THE DECISION MADE BY FORD MOTOR COMPANY WAS JUST TO NOTATE THAT THIS HAPPENED. (2798 E GRAND RIVER AVE, HOWELL, MI 48843, (517) 545-5700); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED. WHILE REVERSING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE, THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) FAILED. THE EPS INDICATOR FLASHED AND THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND BACK ON, BUT THE EPS CONTINUED TO FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. BOB MAXEY FORD OF HOWELL AND BRIGHTON FORD (8240 GRAND RIVER AVE, BRIGHTON, MI 48114, (810) 227-1171) WERE CONTACTED AND INDICATED THAT FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS NEEDED TO DETERMINE IF THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WRENCH SYMBOL WAS ALSO FLASHING ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER: DP15001 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

I WAS STILL ABLE TO BRAKE, BUT NEEDED TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO STOP AND THERE WAS A NEW NOISE WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKES. 08 FORD ESCAPE POWER STEERING: CAR WAS STATIONARY AT TIME OF FAILURE. CAR WAS PURCHASED FOR TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM COLLEGE, DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME AND STOPPED AT A RESTAURANT. WHEN SHE WAS LEAVING THE RESTAURANT SHE COULD NOT STEER THE VEHICLE AND ALMOST STRUCK SEVERAL CARS IN PARKING LOT. SHE HAD TO CALL ME (FATHER) TO COME GET VEHICLE AND DRIVE IT HOME. I AM A LARGE MALE WHO WORKS OUT AND I HAD TROUBLE STEERING THIS VEHICLE. SHE IS UNABLE TO CONTINUE TO USE THIS VEHICLE. IF THIS FAILURE WOULD HAVE HAPPENED 10 MIN. EARLIER IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED HER TO HAVE A COLLISION. ATTEMPTED TO HAVE DEALER REPAIR CAR DISCLOSED A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM, AND A RECALL HAD BEEN DONE ON THIS ISSUE ON THIS VEHICLE ON 06-24-2014. WHEN I ASKED, THEY REFUSED TO RECHECK RECALL. THE FIRST RECALL INVOLVED A SIMPLE REPROGRAMMING OF THE STEERING SENSOR. NOW I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT WILL BE AROUND $1500.00 AND THEY MUST REPLACE THE ENTIRE STEERING SHAFT.

WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET, THE RED TRIANGLE LIGHT CAME ON, WITH A WARNING TO "STOP NOW, PULL OVER." LUCKILY I WAS ALREADY DRIVING SLOWLY AND I STOPPED SAFELY. THE ENGINE THEN DIED. I TRIED RESTARTING, BUT THE RED TRIANGLE CAME BACK ON, AND THE ENGINE DIED AGAIN. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS A DEAD HYBRID BATTERY, WITH A REPLACEMENT COST $12,000. UNFORTUNATELY, THE 8-YR BATTERY WARRANTY EXPIRED JUST A FEW MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS. I ASKED ABOUT RECALL 14S19, WHICH SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO THIS PROBLEM. THE DEALER AND FORD CORP CUSTOMER SERVICE BOTH SAID MY SPECIFIC VIN WAS NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. ABOUT 18 MONTHS PRIOR TO THIS, I HAD THE SAME EXPERIENCE, WITH THE RED TRIANGLE WARNING LIGHT COMING ON WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE SAME DEALER. THEIR INITIAL DIAGNOSIS WAS A DEAD HYBRID BATTERY, WHICH WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE NEXT DAY, THE DEALER CALLED BACK TO SAY THEY HAD DISCUSSED THE PROBLEM WITH FORD CORPORATION, AND THEY CHANGED THE DIAGNOSIS. THEY REPLACED THE "IGNITION SWITCH AND HOUSING" (NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY) FOR $743. THE CAR RAN OK UNTIL THE PROBLEM RECURRED THIS MONTH. *TR
I PUT MY 2008 ESCAPE IN PARK, REMOVED THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION AND EXITED THE VEHICLE. I WALKED APPROXIMATELY 60 YARDS AND WAS INFORMED BY A BYSTANDER THAT MY VEHICLE WAS ROLLING AWAY. THE 2008 FOR ESCAPE ROLLED APPROXIMATELY 200 YARDS DOWN HILL INTO A TREE. I WENT TO THE VEHICLE AND THE GEARSHIFT WAS NOW IN THE "R" POSITION AFTER STRIKING THE TREE. I KNOW THERE WAS A RECALL FOR SUCH A PROBLEM ON CERTAIN FORD ESCAPES. ACCORDING TO FORD MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
IN 2014 RECEIVED RECALL FOR STEERING AND IT WAS "REPROGRAMMED" 0N 9/25/2016 COMPLETE FAILURE OF STEERING WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE "FIXED" UNDER THE RECALL. NOW SINCE RECALL IS CLOSED, ACTUAL PROBLEM IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. QUOTED 1500 TO REPLACE STEERING COLUMN. THE FAILURE OCCURED WHEN LEAVING A GAS STATION, WHICH MADE STEERING NEXT TO IMPOSSIBLE. CALLED FORD THE NEXT DAY ONLY TO FIND OUT SINCE THE ORIGINAL RECALL WAS PERFORMED ON ESCAPE THAT THIS ISSUE IS NOT COVERED EVEN THOUGH THIS IS THE FAILURE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED FOR
