LAST WEEK I WENT OUTSIDE AND GOT IN MY CAR TO RUN SOME ERRANDS AND WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE RED BRAKE LIGHT, ORANGE ABS LIGHT, AND THE CHIMER STATING "REGENERATIVE BRAKE DISENGAGED" "CHECK BRAKES" BEGAN TO LIGHT. THE BRAKES ARE WORKING (KNOCK ON WOOD) BUT ARE TRICKY TO OPERATE. THIS MORNING I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY STATED IT WAS MOST LIKELY IN NEED OF A NEW HCU COSTING AROUND $5,000 (I AM GOING TO GET THE VEHICLE CHECKED ONE MORE TIME BEFORE PARKING IT FOR GOOD). AS I READ THE COMPLAINTS ON NHTSA'S WEB SITE, IT APPEARS FOLKS AT NHTSA ARE FULLY KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THIS SAFETY HAZARD (AS EACH PAGE IS FILED WITH SAME, IF NOT WORSE, COMPLAINTS) AND ARE NOT GOING TO ACT UNTIL SOMEONE GETS KILLED. IT IS ALSO BLATANTLY OBVIOUS THAT FORD IS NOT GOING TO ACT EITHER. THE 2008 ESCAPE HYBRID HAS BEEN A GREAT VEHICLE, UNTIL NOW (132,000 MILES). THE PRICE TO FIX THIS ISSUE IS SLIGHTLY LESS THAN WHAT THE CAR IS WORTH AND COMPARED TO ALL OTHER BRANDS MADE IT VERY FEW MILES. NOW IT IS TIME TO TURN MY OUTRAGE REGARDING THIS ISSUE OVER TO MY STATE REPRESENTATIVES. I CANNOT BELIEVE THEIR ARE NO CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED (IT IS A MATTER OF TIME, IF NOT ALREADY THE CASE). THIS ISSUE SHOULD WARRANT A RECALL, THEY ARE BRAKES FOR GOD'S SAKE. *TT *BF *TR
WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE ABS WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, PLUS THE INFORMATION DISPLAY INDICATED "CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM" AND "REGEN BRAKE DISABLED". I WAS STILL ABLE TO BRAKE, BUT NEEDED TO APPLY MORE PRESSURE TO STOP AND THERE WAS A NEW NOISE WHEN I DEPRESSED THE BRAKES. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL FORD DEALER, THE SERVICE ASSOCIATE TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND NOTICED THE NOISE AND NEED FOR EXTRA PRESSURE ON THE BRAKES. AFTER THE TECHNICIAN HAD CHECKED THE VEHICLE THEY INDICATED THAT I NEEDED A NEW HCU UNIT AND THE ESTIMATED COST WAS $5,200+ *TT *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT NOT REPAIRED. THE PARTS THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WERE UNKNOWN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
WHILE BREAKING HARD ON ROUGH ROAD THE BREAKS WILL LOOSE PRESSURE AND GO SOFT. THEY WILL EVENTUALLY RETURN TO NORMAL AFTER A FEW TIMES AFTER THE CAR IS RESTARTED.
THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING AND THE WARNING WAS "REGEN BRAKES DISABLED". I WAS TOLD THIS WAS A DEFECT AND FORD WAS NOT COVERING THE COST OF FIXING, WHICH IS $5,000-7,000. WE BOUGHT THE VEHICLE NEW AND IT HAS A BIT OVER 130,000 MILES AND IS IN GREAT SHAPE OTHERWISE. WE CAN'T FIX IT, SELL IT OR DRIVE IT.
REAR HATCH LATCH WILL NOT CLOSE WHEN OPENED. WE HAVE HAD ONE REPLACED ALREADY AND WITHIN A MONTH IT HAS BROKEN AGAIN. BELIEVE HATCH WINDOW IS LEAKING INTO WALL OF HATCH AND SHORTING THE COMPONENT THAT OPEN AND CLOSES THE HATCH. WE HAVE HAD TO DRIVE HOME WITH AN UNLATCHED HATCH. THERE ARE PLENTY OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ON THE NET. DEALERS DON'T WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT.
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY SUDDENLY STEERING FEELS LIKE HARD TO SHIFT LANE AND WHILE TURNING ON EXIT IT IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TAKE SHAPR TURNS. I PULLED SOMEHOW IN CLOSET PARKING LOT AFTER TOOK AN EXIT FROM HIGHWAY. FOUND MESSAGE ON DASHBOARD POWER STEERING FAULT
I HAVE POWER STEERING PROBLEMS. I HAD SUSPENSION PROBLEMS SINCE I BOUGHT IT. THE TRUCK IGNITION WENT OUT ON 10/31/17.
IN COLD WEATHER THE GAS PEDAL STICKS, I HAVE TO PUSH IT TWICE, AFTER 50 KM WHEN THE ENGINE IS WARM IT IS NOT SO BAD. MY SON IS SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR SO I HAD TO BUY HIM ANOTHER ONE, I STILL DRIVE THE ESCAPE.
WHEN SITTING IDLE AT RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN, IT RUMBLES ROUGHLY, I HIT THE ACCELERATOR IT HESITATES TO GO THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN GETS A BURST OF SPEED. THIS MAINLY HAPPENS IN CITY STREET.
THE IGNITION WILL NOT START WHEN YOU TURN THE KEY AND AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS IT WILL EVENTUALLY START
FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, IT WAS HAVING A DIFFICULT TIME GETTING MY CAR TO START. I HAD TO PUSH THE KEY IN ALL WAY IN...PUSHING IT HARD AND SOMETIMES JIGGLING THE KEY TO GET IT TO START. I REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH (MODULE) AND THAT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM AND MY CAR WOULD NOT START AT ALL. I HAD A LOCKSMITH CHANGE THE IGNITION BUT THAT DIDN'T WORK. FINALLY FORD SAID THAT IT WAS THE "IGNITION SWITCH HOUSING". THIS SEEMS LIKE FORD HAS A PROBLEM WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS. AS THE FORD DEALER HAD TO ORDER A 2ND "SWITCH HOUSING" BECAUSE THE 1ST ONE (THE ONE IN STOCK) WAS DEFECTIVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING OR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED, IT STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHEN THE IGNITION KEY WAS TURNED TO THE ON POSITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE IGNITION COLLAR AND BREAK AWAY BOLTS FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RANDOM SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING THAT PROGRESSED FOR OVER TWO YEARS. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED SEVERAL TIMES AND WAS UNABLE TO REPLICATE AND DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE DEALER FAILED TO REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN AND INSPECT THE TORQUE SENSOR. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER MODULE WAS INSPECTED. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE DEALER ONLY PROVIDED A SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR THE PSCM AND THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT PROVIDED NO RECOMMENDATION OR SOLUTION OTHER THAN THE CONTACT REPLACING THE STEERING COLUMN WITH A NEWLY DESIGNED STEERING COLUMN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
PURCHASED VEHICLE A MONTH AGO WITH 135,000 MILES. IT HAS STALLED 3 TIMES AT LOW SPEEDS, ONCE WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN ON A CITY STREET CAUSING ME TO LOSE STEERING AND ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE, NO LIGHTS POP ON WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT JUST DIES WITH NO WARNING. I AM ABLE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND RESTART IT. IT HAS ALSO, ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS LURCHED FORWARD FROM A STOP OR ROLLING STOP WHEN I HIT THE GAS. FROM READING OTHER OWNERS COMPLAINTS IT SOUNDS IDENTICAL TO THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL ISSUE SO MANY SEEM TO BE HAVING. I CAN'T AFFORD TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AT THIS POINT, AND DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT BUT I HAVE NO OTHER VEHICLE. I DID CALL FORD BUT THEY DON'T RECOGNIZE MY VIN UNDER THE "CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM" THEY HAVE FOR SO MANY OTHER OF THEIR VEHICLES HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE! AGAIN, I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT BUT HAVE NO CHOICE, SO I WANTED PUBLIC RECORD OF THE ISSUE IN CASE IT SHUTS OFF ON ME AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND I DIE IN AN ACCIDENT, SO MY SPOUSE AND CHILDREN HAVE A RECORD THAT I BROUGHT THE KNOWN ISSUE TO FORD BUT THEY DID NOTHING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT OBSERVED AN ABNORMAL ODOR AND PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,850.
I was driving home at night with my child, and I stepped on the brake to slow the car down as we were going down a hill, and the brakes did not work. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor after softly stepping on the brake pedal and did not release. I could not stop the SUV, so I coasted as best I could, and THANK GOD WE DID NOT CRASH!
I PURCHASED MY 2008?FORD ESCAPE LAST YEAR 2015. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH CV AXILS ON EACH SIDE AND I HAD MY STEERING COLUMN REPLACED. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH 95,000 MILES ON IT AT A GREAT DEAL OF $8,900. I THEN FOUND OUT WHY IT WAS SO CHEAP FROM SUCH A TRUSTED DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP WAS CLOSING IN THE NEXT 2 WEEKS. IT CLOSED SHORTLY AFTER MY PURCHASE AND A NEW FORD DEALERSHIP OPENED IN ITS PLACE. THROUGH OUT THE LAST FEW WEEKS MY CAR HAS NOT BEEN DRIVING CORRECTLY, ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY. I TOOK A CLOSER LOOK AND NOTICED THAT NO MATTER MY SPEED MY CAR WILL NOT GO ABOVE 3RD GEAR. MY POWER TRAN LIGHT CAME ON TODAY. I HAVE READ ON OTHER SIGHTS THAT THERE WERE RECALLS ON THIS ISSUE. I DO NOT THINK THESE ISSUES WERE FIXED WHILE BEING RECALLED. THE RELATED I'VE DONE SO FAR HAVE NOT BEEN CHEAP BY ANY MEANS. THE VEHICLE STALLED AND LOST ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE WITH A "PULL OVER SAFELY" SIGN WHILE ON THE FREEWAY BACK IN SEPTEMBER 2013 WHEREIN I WAS TOLD TO HAVE THE COOLING PART FOR THE HYBRID BATTERY REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THE PART WAS FAULTY. THE REPLACED PART HAD TO BE REPLACED AGAIN THAT SAME WEEK BY ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WITH FORD. FAST FORWARD TO TODAY, AND THE SAME RED TRIANGLE WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED AND THE PART NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. THE WARRANTY FOR THE PART IS ONLY FOR 2 YEARS, BUT AFTER 3 YEARS WITH THE PART, THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING ME IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. I FIND THIS AGGREGIOUS IN NATURE AND A RACKET THAT FORD IS TAKING ADVANTAGE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. THE MAKE AND MODEL WERE A PART OF A RECALL SPECIFIC TO THIS VERY ISSUE, BUT MY SPECIFIC VIN NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THIS RECALL, SO I'M OUT OF OPTIONS FOR FORD TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE THEMSELVES, TELLING ME THAT IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WILL NOT ASSIST ME WITH THE REPLACEMENT/COSTS AND NOW I'M EXPECTED TO COME OUT OF POCKET AGAIN FOR THE SAME ISSUE. THE ORIGINAL SITUATION OCCURRED WHILE TRAVELING 70MPH ON THE I5 SOUTHBOUND NEAR LAKE ELSINORE, CA IN THE HOV LANE ON THE FREEWAY, AND TWO DAYS AGO IT WAS STATIONARY AND COULD NOT BE STARTED AFTER DRIVING IT THAT MORNING AFTER SITTING FOR ONE HOUR.
ON AUGUST 4, 2016, THE "CHECK ABS" LIGHT CAME ON. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THE ROTOR IS RUSTED SO THEY REPLACED THE RIGHT AND LEFT FRONT ROTOR AND THE RIGHT FRONT BRAKE DISC PAD. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO GET ANY OF THE WARNING SIGNS TO APPEAR SO HE THOUGHT EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. TWO WEEKS LATER, THE "CHECK ABS" LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, AND ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER THAT THE "REGEN BRAKES DISABLED" LIGHT CAME ON. THIS WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY SO THERE WASN'T MUCH I COULD DO. I NOTICED THAT EVERY TIME I BRAKED, THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS WOBBLING FROM SIDE TO SIDE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE SAME MECHANIC THE NEXT MORNING, AND HE SPENT TWO DAYS RUNNING TESTS ON THE DIAGNOSTICS AND SAW TWO CODES: 1) RIGHT FRONT WHEEL AND 2) COMMUNICATIONS INSIDE MODULE. THE MECHANIC BLED THE BRAKES AND TRIED TO TEST DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND ALMOST RAN INTO CARS IN THE PARKING LOT DUE TO BRAKE FAILURE. THUS HE STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE THE CAR TOWED. FINALLY, I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP SINCE HE SAID IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE/HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED, WHICH THEY ARE QUOTING AT $4600. I AM THANKFUL THAT I MADE IT TO THE MECHANIC AND REALIZED THERE WAS A PROBLEM BEFORE GETTING INTO A CRASH. THIS HAPPENED VERY RAPIDLY AND I WAS IN SOME SERIOUS DANGER. I GOT LUCKY, AND OTHERS MAY BE LESS FORTUNATE THAN ME. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS STORIES ON CAR FORUMS AND THIS THREAD AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL ON THIS YET. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE AN INVESTIGATION AND I AM WILLING TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION AND SHARE MY STORY TO BRING ATTENTION TO THIS ISSUE, AND HOPEFULLY PREVENT SOMEONE ELSE FROM GETTING HURT.

WHILE DRIVING AT A SLOW RATE OF SPEED AND MAKING A LEFT TURN INTO A INTERSECTION, THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AND THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR SIGNAL WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED IN SEPTEMBER OF 2014 FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING) WITH 68,000 MILES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE AT A STOP, A TRACTOR TRAILER REAR ENDED THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE DRIVER'S SEAT FRACTURED COMPLETELY FROM THE FRAME AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED BACK PAINS AND RECEIVED MEDICAL TREATMENT. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER BY THE INSURANCE COMPANY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY A DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE CRASH. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
HAVE TO FORCE THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION REALLY HARD AND TURN THE KEY MANY TIMES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WILL START.
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE AUTOBAHN IN GERMANY AND THE CAR FOR NO APPARENT REASON SHUT OFF AND DISPLAYED THE 'STOP SAFELY NOW' MESSAGE. THERE WAS NO WHERE TO PULL OVER SO I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. LUCKILY THERE WAS HARDLY NO TRAFFIC. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES IN 1 HOUR.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING), BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS ALREADY PERFORMED; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
VEHICLE POWER TRAIN LIGHT CAME ON. VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUTTER THEN LOSE POWER ON THE HIGHWAY WITHOUT A SHOULDER. VEHICLE REDUCED SPEED TO MAX 20MPH.

A 20 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AND THE BRAKES WENT COMPLETELY OUT AGAIN ONLY AFTER 16 MILES FROM FORD DOING THE REPAIRS. SHE ALMOST WRECKED BUT MANAGED TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND PULL OFF ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY GOTTEN INJURED OR BEEN KILLED OR KILLED SOMEONE ELSE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP TOWED THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AT NO COST AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THEY ARE NOW SAYING IT WILL COST APPROXIMATELY $4600.00 TO REPAIR THIS VEHICLE IN ORDER FOR THE BRAKES TO WORK PROPERLY. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY HAZARD PUTTING MANY LIVES AT RISKS FOR SERIOUS INJURY AND/OR DEATH. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE HYBRID BRAKING SYSTEM DEFECTS. HOW CAN A RECALL AFFECT SO MANY PEOPLE BUT NOT COVER THE REAL PROBLEM THAT EVERYONE IS HAVING.
