TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER AND THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITHOUT POWER STEERING CAPABILITY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS AND BOTH CONFIRMED THAT THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND HOUSING WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
AUGUST 2014 TOOK MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE INTO LOCAL FORD DEALER FOR RECALL NOTICE RECALL 14S05 - POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT ISSUE WITH TORQUE SENSOR REPLACEMENT - LINDQUIST FORD DEALERSHIP JUST UPGRADED A PROGRAM INTO MY ESCAPE FOR ABT 20-30MINS, DIDN'T CHECK ANY PARTS FOR REPLACEMENT, TOLD ME NO PARTS WERE REPLACED THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT SO THEY DIDN'T PHYSICALLY TAKE THE TIME TO LOOK. FEBRUARY 2016 - NO ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON BUT WHEN I TURN THE KEY OVER FOR THE LAST 6WKS SOMETIMES MY ESCAPE STARTS UP SOMETIMES, SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT WITH A NOTICE "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT" - AS WEEKS WENT BY, THE STEERING WHEEL IS SHAKING MORE RANDOMLY WHILE DRIVING AND STOPPING. THE ONLY WAY TO START MY FORD ESCAPE IS BY REMOTE START TO BYPASS THE STARTER. RECENTLY,I TOOK MY CAR INTO MY LOCAL MECHANIC, AFTER THOROUGH INVESTIGATION THE TORQUE SENSOR IS CRACKED. I WAS TOLD BY FORD EMPLOYEES, 2 OTHER LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS & THE MECHANIC TO TAKE THE ESCAPE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO OPENED UP THE ORIGINAL RECALL BACK IN AUGUST 2014. THAT ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP DID MAKE A CLAIM, FORD WARRANTY DENIED THE CLAIM- THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T "CHOOSE" TO TELL FORD WARRANTY THEY NEVER LOOKED AT THE RECALL PARTS IN AUGUST 2014 THEY JUST DID THE UPGRADE, THEIR LIABILITY "THAT'S WHAT THE LETTER TOLD THEM TO DO, NO WARNING LIGHT NO REPLACEMENT PARTS". I PAID $70+ FOR WHAT THE MECHANIC JUST DID FOR FREE. THAT DEALERSHIP DID NOT CHECK FOR ANY PARTS THAT NEEDED REPLACED BACK ON 2014. NOT ONLY DID THE DEALERSHIP CHARGE ME $70, I TOOK THE ESCAPE BACK TO THE LOCAL MECHANIC AND PAID $500 FOR A NEW TORQUE SENSOR; SAME EXACT PART FALLING UNDER THE RECALL "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT". DENIED CLAIM ON 2/19/2016, REASON- IT'S BEEN OVER A YEAR SINCE MY RECALL UPDATE WAS DONE THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED THE PART BACK IN 2014. I DRIVE 2 CARS, SERIOUSLY?
FORD ESCAPE WAS STATIONARY TURNED IT ON COULDNT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW :( JUST READING LOTS OF COMPLAINS ABOUT THE SAME SAFETY ISSUE.HOPE I CAN GET IF FIXED SOON
TRUCK HAS 87,000 MILES ,RIDING DOWN THE ROAD TRANNY NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY,ALMOST CAUSING ME TO HIT ANOTHER CAR WHEN I TRIED TO ACCERLATE.TOOK TO SHOP,TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. MY GOD YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING ME.TERRIBLY DESIGNED SUV. NO MORE FORDS FOR ME.UNHEARD OF.
HAD THE TRUCK SERVICED RECEIVED A PERFECT REPORT, THEN 2 WEEKS LATER THE STEERING BECAME VERY TIGHT AND HARD TO STEER.TOOK THE TRUCK TO 3 DIFFERENT SHOPS TO LEARN THEY WERE NOT EQUIPPED TO HANDLE AN ELECTRICAL POWER STEERING.
I HAVE EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER STREERING AND HAVE A DASHBOARD ALERT. COMPUTER TESTING STATES THE P2278 STREERING TORQUIE ANGLE SENSOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE SYMPTOMS ARE THE SAME AS THE FORD 14S05 RECALL: SUMMARY: FORD MOTOR COMPANY (FORD) IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2008-2011 FORD ESCAPE AND MERCURY MARINER VEHICLES MANUFACTURED AUGUST 18, 2006, THROUGH SEPTEMBER 11, 2010. THE AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE A STEERING TORQUE SENSOR THAT MAY NOT BE ABLE TO PROPERLY DETECT DRIVER STEERING INPUT. AS A RESULT, THE SYSTEM COULD REMOVE THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING (EPS) ASSIST. I PURCHASHED THIS VEHICLE USED IN AUGSUT 2015. THE POWER STEERING WHEN OUT IN FEBRUARY, 2016.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE STEERING LOST POWER FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THEN RETURNED TO NORMAL. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWO DAYS LATER, WHILE THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER WAS IN REVERSE. THE STEERING LOST POWER COMPLETELY WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED THE VEHICLE ACCORDING TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL REPAIR WAS ALREADY PERFORMED AND THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE LOCAL DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 98,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING; HOWEVER, THE DETAILS COULD NOT BE PROVIDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 167,000.
2008 FORD ESCAPE, 122,000 MILES. WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, I GOT A MESSAGE ON THE DISPLAY "POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILURE" AND STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING LIKE THIS HTTPS://WWW.YOUTUBE.COM/WATCH?V=F-LZBZSBO3U AND THEN I LOST POWER STEERING. AFTER QUICK RESEARCH IT LOOKS LIKE THERE WAS A HUGE RECALL (ALMOST MILLION CARS) FOR 2008-2011 ESCAPES, BUT MINE WAS NOT ON THE LIST.
THE STEERING WHEEL MOTOR IS NOT WORKING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO SHAKE. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED, THE STEERING ABILITY SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR WAS DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,800.
RECALL 14V284 WAS INEFFECTIVE. PER FORD, THE RECALL WAS ADMINISTERED ON ME VEHICLE ON 18SEP14. THIS WAS WHEN THE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED. THE POWER STEERING ON THE VEHICLE LOCKED IN A LEFT TURN, IN THE SNOW, IN DEC 2014. THE STEERING COLUMN SHUTTERED, AS IF THE ABS WAS WORKING. IT RIGHTED ITSELF AND THERE WASN'T ANYTHING ON THE DASH ADVISING A FAULT. SHORTLY AFTER THAT IT BECAME HARD TO STEER, BUT ONLY TEMPORARILY. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS NO PROBLEM FOUND. THE POWER STEERING WENT COMPLETELY OUT AND DISPLAYED A FAULT. SEE ATTACHED 27JAN15. DIAGNOSIS, BATTERY AT FAULT. THIS HAS CONTINUED INTERMITTENTLY. THE SOLUTION, PULL OVER AND RESTART, THIS SOLVES THE PROBLEM. UNTIL NOW. THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. IT LOCKED UP, SHUTTERED, RELEASED AND NO POWER STEERING. THIS OCCURRED ON 06FEB16. THIS WAS IN A HOTEL PARKING LOT AND NO ONE WAS INJURED.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN INTO SERVICE AND THE TORQUE SENSORS WERE IDENTIFIED AS NEEDING REPLACED. I ADVISED THE ONGOING SITUATION AND WAS REFERRED TO FORD. I CONTACTED FORD AT 800-392-3673. I WAS DENIED COVERAGE. THEY WERE POLITE BUT STILL DENIED. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY DISCOVERED NO PROBLEM WHEN THEY TESTED THE SYSTEM ON THE RECALL AND IT HAD BEEN TOO LONG. IF THERE WERE ANY INVESTIGATIONS IDENTIFYING FURTHER RECALLS I WOULD BE ABLE TO SUBMIT FOR REIMBURSEMENT. I CALLED THE NEXT DAY AND ADVISED THE POWER STEERING FAILURE OF 27JAN15 AND WAS AGAIN DENIED COVERAGE. WHILE EVERYONE WAS POLITE, THE CONCERN IS STILL NOT ADDRESSED. TWICE SINCE THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED THE STEERING HAS LOCKED IN A TURN. AT LEAST SIX TIMES SINCE THE RECALL THE VEHICLE HAS LOST POWER STEERING CAPABILITIES IN MOTION. AS NO ONE WAS HURT AND THERE WASN'T ANY PROPERTY DAMAGE, I BELIEVE THE SITUATION IS BEING OVERLOOKED.
BEFORE THE TORQUE SENSOR RECALL, MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT INTERMITTENTLY SOMETIMES ACCOMPANIED BY THE STOP SAFELY NOW RED TRIANGLE. UPON BEING NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO JACK SAFRO FORD IN OCONOMOWOC, WISCONSIN TO COMPLETE THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE REQUIRED THE EASIER FIX AND THE DEALER DIDN'T REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS MY POWER STEERING STARTED GOING OUT INTERMITTENTLY AGAIN. IT STARTED GOING OUT MORE OFTEN AND I ALSO NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD NOT START FIRST TRY. USUALLY I HAD TO TURN THE IGNITION 3-4 TIMES TO GET THE VEHICLE TO START. IN THE PAST MONTH MY POWER STEERING IS NOW COMPLETELY OUT. IT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AS IF A CAR WENT OVER THE CENTER LINE OR A DEER OR ANIMAL WERE TO GO IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REACT QUICKLY WITHOUT POWER STEERING. ALSO, IT IS SO HARD TO PULL INTO PARKING SPACES AND TURN THE WHEEL THAT I HAVE TO SEE A DOCTOR BECAUSE I AM HAVING SHARP PAIN IN MY SHOULDERS. WE TOOK THE CAR TO JACK SAFRO THIS WEEK AND THEY TOLD US THEY WOULD TALK TO FORD. ALL THEY DID WAS TRY TO RESET COMPUTER AND THE STEERING IS STILL COMPLETELY OUT. THEY SAID FORD WOULD NOT COVER IT AND GAVE US THE 800 NUMBER TO COMPLAIN. SO NOW I AM STUCK WITH AN UNSAFE CAR AND I HAVE A GRANDSON I NEED TO TRANSPORT SOME DAYS. WHY IN THE WORLD CAN'T THE DEALER REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR IF THAT WAS THE RECALL AND WHAT IS NEEDED TO REPAIR MY CAR? WHY DOES IT HAVE TO ISSUE CERTAIN CODES? CAN'T THE DEALER SEE FOR THEMSELVES THERE IS NO POWER STEERING DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY NEVER DID THE PROPER VEHICLE RECALL REPAIR? I AM BAFFLED! OUR SON JUST PURCHASED A FORD TRUCK AND MY HUSBAND ALSO OWNS ONE SO WE HAVE 3 FORDS IN OUR DRIVEWAY!

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE POWER STEERING FAILED. ACCORDING TO THE FORD DEALER IT IS THE POWER STEERING SENSOR WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE READ MANY SIMILAR STORIES ONLINE ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WHERE LIKE I WAS ALSO DRIVING AND THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING AND I ALMOST CRASHED.
DAUGHTER IS DRIVING MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE AND WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SHAKING VIOLENTLY WHICH REQUIRED HER TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THIS REQUIRED GREAT DIFFICULTY DUE TO THE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. THE ESCAPE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC WHICH GAVE HER MATERIAL ON THE POWER STEERING MODULE RECALL. SHE CONTACTED FORD AND THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE VIN NUMBER HAD BEEN EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL EVEN THOUGH THE FAILURE WAS FOR THE EXACT REASON THE RECALL WAS INITIATED.
THE POWER STEERING HAS STOPPED WORKING IT'S AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE
POWER STEERING MODULE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE FOR THE POWER STEERING. WE HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED IN NOV 2014. THE POWER STEERING MODULE WENT OUT ON FEBRUARY 1, 2016. ALTHOUGH IT WAS NOT EXACTLY THE SAME THING, IT SEEMS RELATED AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN BROADER TO INCLUDE THIS ISSUE AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY WHEN IT FIRST BEGAN. MY DAUGHTER HAD TO DRIVE IT TO THE NEAREST MECHANIC. WHEN HE DIAGNOSED THE CODE, HE SAID IT WAS UNSAFE FOR HER TO CONTINUE DRIVING.

THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE PRIOR TO HAVING THE RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, AN ABNORMAL GRINDING NOISE WAS HEARD AND THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 133,000.
THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE AND NOW THE PROBLEM IS STARTING AGAIN THE KEY JUST TURNS AND CAR DOESN'T TURN OVER AND IT BEEPS BECAUSE YOU CANNOT PUT KEY IN RIGHT POSITION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHCLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHER IT WAS REMEDIED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING), BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 137,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOTH REAR DOORS WERE RUSTED THROUGH AS WELL AS THE FRAME ABOVE THE TIRES. THE DOORS ALSO HAD RUST INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME AND/OR VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
EVERY TIME I DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY AT 75MPH THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD START TO SHAKE. THEN FOR THE PAST 2 WEEKS EVEN WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ON A STOP LIGHT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD SHAKE. TWO DAYS AGO AS I SHIFTED THE VEHICLE TO DRIVE THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME SUPER HARD TO MOVE. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND ONCE I TURNED IT ON THE STEERING WHEEL FELT FINE AGAIN. THIS MORNING AS I SHIFTED THE GEAR TO DRIVE THE STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD AND UNMOVEABLE. I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE.
ON 4/29/15 AT 74,422 MILES I HAD RECALL 14S05 COMPLETED ON MY 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THEY PERFORMED A SOFTWARE UPDATE AND TOLD ME THIS WOULD TAKE CARE OF ANY FUTURE PROBLEMS. ON 1/29/16 AROUND 85,000 MILES MY HUSBANDS WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AND ALMOST CAUSED HIM TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE POWER ASSIST FAULT WARNING DISPLAYED ON THE DASH. NOW FORD IS REFUSING TO PAY TO FIX MY CAR STATING THE RECALL IS ONLY WARRANTIED FOR 30 DAYS. THEY STATE I NEED A NEW TORQUE SENSOR WHICH IS A PART THAT WAS REPLACED IN SOME VEHICLES UNDER THIS RECALL. THE DEFECTIVE PART SHOULD OF NEVER BEEN LEFT IN MY CAR BACK IN APRIL OF 2015.
AFTER DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THE VEHICLE RPM'S INCREASE BUT THE VEHICLE SPEED WILL NOT....ALMOST AS IF THE THROTTLE IS "STICKING." THIS OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. THE CONTACT MADE SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TURN OFF AND RESTART THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT IT WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED BECAUSE THE VIN WAS EXCLUDED FROM NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
THE STEERING STARTED GOING OUT AFTER A FEW MILES. AFTER SHUTTING OFF THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD BE FINE FOR AWHILE. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND FOUND THAT THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL AND THE WORK HAD BEEN PERFORMED IN AUGUST, 2014. THE DEALER CONTACTED FORD RECALL SPECIAL SERVICES AND WAS DENIED COVERAGE. WE ALSO CONTACTED FORD AND WERE DENIED. THE VEHICLE BELONGS TO A 72 YEAR OLD WIDOW WHO HAS FOLLOWED EVERY MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. SHE IS UNABLE TO STEER IT WHEN IT GOES OUT AND UNABLE TO AFFORD A $900 REPAIR.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TORQUE CONVERTER AND THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE POWER TORQUE SENSOR WAS REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THE STEERING COLUMN PARTS WERE BEING ORDERED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE FOR STEERING ISSUE. NO ISSUES WITH STEERING PRIOR TO RECALL. SOFTWARE UPDATE PERFORMED. 4 MONTHS NO ISSUES. THEN STEERING WHEEL BEGAN MODERATE SHAKING UPON START, DRIVING AND IDLING. SEVERAL DAYS LATER 'POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT' APPEARED IN MESSAGE CENTER. SHAKING CONTINUED BUT NO IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER. TWO DAYS FOLLOWING ON THE HEELS OF MAJOR SNOWSTORM, ALL POWER STEERING LOST. CONTACTED FORD DIRECTLY, THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO SCHEDULE SERVICE APPOINTMENT. THEY CLAIMED THAT CODES CAN BACK AS TORQUE SENSOR AND NOTHING TO DO WITH POWER STEERING ISSUE.
MY STEERING WENT OUT AFTER I HAD STOPPED THE CAR AND TURNED IT OFF. I HAD GOT BACK IN THE CAR 30 MINUTES LATER PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND THE STEERING WAS GONE. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THAT I HAD PURCHASED IT FROM BECAUSE I HAD SEEN ON SOME SERVICE PAPERS FROM THEM THAT STATED A RECALL ON THE FORD ESCAPE WAS IN PLACE #14S05. HE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON MY PARTICULAR VEHICLE. MY MILEAGE IS 101,500. THIS IS THE SAME DEALERSHIP THAT I HAD TAKEN MY CAR TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT MY IGNITION SWITCH BECAUSE IT WAS GIVING ME PROBLEMS AND WAS TOLD THAT IT DIDNT GIVE THEM A PROBLEM. 2 MONTHS LATER SWITCH IS ALMOST GONE COMPLETELY, I TOOK IT IN AGAIN AND THEY SAID IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT SORRY YOUR EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD RUN OUT YOU WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS.

AFTER FUELING MY CAR, THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING. IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER, BUT IT'S HARDER AT LOW SPEEDS.
CAR LOST ALL POWER STEERING WITH NO WARNING WHILE CROSSING 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC TURNING ONTO A SIDE STREET. WE DETERMINED THIS ISSUE WAS INCLUDE IN RECALL 14S05 AND TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER TO HAVE IT FIXED. DEALER SAYS FORD REPROGRAMMED THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE AND CONSIDERED THE RECALL CLOSED ON MY VEHICLE. THE SUPPOSED REPROGRAMMING OF THE MODULE WAS SUPPOSED TO WARN US IF THE POWER STEERING HAD A FAILURE. NO WARNING LIGHT OR SOUND APPEARED BEFORE, DURING OR AFTER THE COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. FORD WOULD HAVE REPLACED THE TORQUE SENSOR OR THE STEERING COLUMN HAD THERE BEEN A POWER STEERING ISSUE AT THE TIME THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN TO ADDRESS THE RECALL. SO BASICALLY IF WE HAD IGNORED THE RECALL WE WOULD HAVE BEEN MUCH BETTER OFF. WE WOULD'VE BEEN ABLE TO HAVE THE PARTS REPLACED BY FORD BUT A YEAR AND A HALF LATER THE PARTS THEY KNEW WERE GOING TO FAIL ARE NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. THE ONLY DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE SHOWING UP WAS B2278. FORD'S SERVICE ACTION DOCUMENT SENT TO DEALERS SAYS IF CODE B2278 APPEARS YOU ONLY REPLACE THE TORQUE SENSOR. OUR MECHANIC FOLLOWED FORD'S INSTRUCTIONS AND WE HAD A DEALERSHIP CALIBRATE THE STEERING SENSOR. UNFORTUNATELY THE POWER STEERING STILL DOES NOT WORK. NO DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES ARE PRESENT AT THIS TIME AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS NOW TURNING ALL THE WAY TO ONE SIDE WITHOUT ANY INPUT. THE DEALERSHIP THAT CALIBRATED THE SENSOR HAS CHARGED US $110 TO CALIBRATE A SENSOR WHICH DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, WANTS ANOTHER $110 TO DIAGNOSE WHAT ELSE COULD BE WRONG, AND IF WE NEED TO REPLACE THE $955.00 STEERING COLUMN WILL CHARGE $275 TO INSTALL IT. HOW CAN THIS POSSIBLY BE LEGAL FOR FORD TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR OVER 700,000 VEHICLES AND NOT FIX THE ISSUE? AND THE FIX THEY SAY THEY DID ON MY VEHICLE FAILED TO GIVE ANY WARNING OF THE POWER STEERING FAILURE.

IN 2012 THE STEERING TORQUE SENSOR WENT OUT AND CAUSED THE EPS TO CONTINUALLY FAIL. WE HAD THE PARTS REPLACED WITH FACTORY PARTS IN 2014 BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR $500. IN DECEMBER 2015 THE STEERING WHEEL BEGAN SHAKING ERRATICALLY AGAIN, INDICATING TORQUE SENSOR FAILURE. WE HAD PREVIOUSLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD TELLING US TO TAKE OUR 2008 FORD ESCAPE TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP. ON JANUARY 19, 2016 THE ESCAPE WAS DROPPED OFF AT TOWN AND COUNTRY FORD IN MADISON, TN. WE PICKED THE ESCAPE BACK UP ON JANUARY 21, 2016. THE STEERING WHEEL STILL SHOOK ERRATICALLY. WHEN ASKED WHY THE MECHANIC DIDN'T REPAIR THE TORQUE SENSOR, THEY INDICATED IT WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL BECAUSE THEY'RE ONLY REQUIRED TO REPAIR BASED OFF OF VAG CODES OR FAULT CODES. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE "DASH WAS LIT UP LIKE CHRISTMAS" AND HE DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO PULL ALL OF THE FAULT CODES. WE LEFT MUTLIPLE MESSAGES FOR THE SERVICE DEPARMENT MANAGER AND RECEIVED NO RESPONSE. I CONTACTED THE FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE NUMBER AS DIRECTED IN THE NHTSA RECALL NOTICE AND EXPLAINED AS ABOVE. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE DIRECTED ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO A DIFFERENT FORD SERVICE CENTER AND STATED THEY COULD NOT ENFORCE THE REPAIRS UNDER THE RECALL AS DEALERSHIPS ARE PRIVATELY OWNED. WE HAVE VIDEO FOOTAGE OF THE STEERING WHEEL SHAKING AFTER THE SERVICE DATES AS NOTED IN THIS COMPLAINT.

EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE DRIVING 60MPH ON FREEWAY. PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND COASTED TO SHOULDER. VEHICLE RESTARTED. NO FAULT CODE FOUND

I WAS AT A GAS STATION AND WITH ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAD TO LEAVE THE CAR AND CALL A TOW. WHEN I CALLED MY DEALER AND TOLD THEM THAT THE RECALL THEY HAD FIXED IN AUGUST OF 2014 WAS DEFECTIVE AND I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED THERE RESPONSE WAS THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM (OBVIOUSLY THEY DID NOT) AS THIS WAS THE SAME PROBLEM. THEY INFORMED ME I COULD NOT TOW THE CAR THERE AS THEY DID NOT HAVE ROOM AND THEY COULD NOT TAKE MY CAR TILL MID MARCH. THE CAR WAS AT A GAS STATION THEY RAN A TEST CHARGED ME $200.00 AND COULD NOT FIX IT SAID ONLY FORD COULD. I FINALLY GOT A FORD DEALER TO TAKE THE CAR AND WAS CHARGED $1500.00 THIS IS INSANE FOR ALMOST GETTING KILLED ON THEIR NEGLECT IN THE FIRST PLACE. .

WHEN IT STARTED VIBRATING WHILE STOPPED IN MAY, 2016, I TOOK IT TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A RECALL WHICH WAS ALREADY DONE IN JANUARY, 2016, AND THE RECALL IS CLOSED NOW, SO I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.

WE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO IN FOR SERVICE AS WE WANT A RELIABLE, SAFE VEHICLE. THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS AND APPLIED A SOFTWARE UPDATE PER RECALL 14S05. DROVE HOME WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE FOLLOWING MORNING THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED SHAKING/VIBRATING/TURNING ON ITS OWN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STILL IN PARK. DROVE THE VEHICLE FOR THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS PROBLEM DID NOT GET BETTER. CALLED THE SERVICE CENTER BACK 3 DAYS AFTER ORIGINAL SERVICE, WHEN THE SOFTWARE UPDATE WAS APPLIED TO SCHEDULE NEW APPOINTMENT. THE FOLLOWUP APPOINTMENT WAS 4 DAYS LATER OR ONE WEEK AFTER THE ORIGINAL SERVICE DATE. SIX DAYS AFTER SOFTWARE UPDATE THE POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING WHILE DRIVING HOME, ON A HIGHWAY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING. TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK IN THE FOLLOWING MORNING (1 WEEK FROM ORIGINAL SERVICE DATE) FOR SERVICE. THIS TIME THE SERVICE CENTER FOUND A PROBLEM AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE GEAR AND THIS WASN'T COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. IT COULD JUST BE THE TIMING BUT IT APPEARS THAT THE SOFTWARE UPDATE CAUSED PROBLEMS (STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION) THAT WE DIDN'T HAVE WITH THE VEHICLE PRIOR UPDATE, OR THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANY PROBLEMS WHEN THE HAVE A KNOWN ISSUE. ALSO DISAPPOINTED THAT GIVEN THE KNOWN ISSUE (RECALL 14S05) THAT FORD FEELS A SOFTWARE UPDATE IS A "FIX" FOR A STEERING FAILURE, A POTENTIAL SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
