TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR LIFTGATE PASSENGER SIDE HINGE WAS CORRODED AND FRACTURED. AS A RESULT, THE REAR GLASS FELL IN. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BODY INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 97,541.
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY FAILURE EQUIVALENT TO THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM BUT TOLD MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT IN THE APPLICABLE GROUP. LOSS OF ALL ENGINE POWER WHILE ON THE FREEWAY TRAVELING AT 65MPH WITH A SEMI TRACTOR TRAILOR BEHIND ME. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE ONTO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD.
I HAD A POWER STEERING RECALL DONE ON MY TRUCK AT DONS FORD. THE MANAGER WHO DID THE RECALL ONLY KNEW ABOUT A PORTION OF THE RECALL SO ALL HE DID WAS REPROGRAM MY COMPUTER. AFTER 2 WEEKS I LOST MY POWER STEERING ALL TOGETHER ( WHILE I WAS DRIVING ALMOST HIT A WALL ) BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE DEALER TOLD THEM I WAS STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH THE POWER STEERING THE RECALL DIDNT FIX IT. THEY SAID THE RECALL WAS CLOSED BECAUSE THEY DID PART OF IT. COME TO FIND OUT THE POWER STEERING TORQUE MODULE WENT AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY OVER $450.00 TO REPAIR IT. IN THE MEAN TIME I CALLED TO FIND OUT ABOUT THE RECALL THERE WERE 3 THINGS INVOLVED IN THE RECALL 1) REPROGRAM COMPUTER 2) REPLACE THE STEERING COLUMN 3) REPLACE THE POWER STEERING TORQUE MODULE. I WENT TO THE MANAGER AND TOLD HIM ABOUT THE 3 PARTS OF THE RECALL HE SAID SORRY OVER AND OVER BECAUSE HE ONLY SAW THE REPROGRAM OF THE COMPUTER. HE ALSO SAID BECAUSE THEY CLOSED THE RECALL THAT I WOULD STILL HAVE TO PAY TO GET THE MODULE REPLACED BECAUSE IF THEY DID IT THEY WOULDNT BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIR. THEY ALSO SAID WELL SINCE THEY DID THE REPROGRAM I PUT OVER 200 MILES ON THE TRUCK SO THE POWER STEERING TORQUE COULD HAVE GONE OUT BECAUSE OF THAT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, THE WRENCH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TORQUE SENSOR FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER A YEAR PRIOR IN REGARDS TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING); HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIANS INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND DIAGNOSED THAT NO REPAIRS WERE NEEDED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THEY WOULD NO LONGER HONOR THE RECALL.THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
2008 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID WITH 109K MILES ON IT. TWO RECENT INCIDENTS WHERE THE YELLOW ABS AND RED BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON, WITH MESSAGES OF CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM AND REGEN BRAKES DISABLED. BRAKES BECAME COMPLETELY USELESS AND VEHICLE BECAME DANGEROUS TO OPERATE. I WAS ABLE TO LET THE VEHICLE SIT AND RETRY AND THE LIGHTS DIDN'T COME ON. BROUGHT IN FOR SERVICE AT DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND CODES C1478 AND C1480. THEY'RE QUOTING ME $5,300 TO REPLACE THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT. AFTER THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM, THE CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING MESSAGE IS ON ALL THE TIME AND THE VEHICLE HAS NO BRAKES. I'VE LEFT IT AT THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. ACCELERATION IS LABORED. THE VEHICLE SKIPS GEARS WHEN DRIVING AT A LOW SPEED RATE. THE VEHICLE WILL JERK AND MAKE NOISES AS IT SKIPPING THROUGH 2ND AND 4TH GEAR. UNFORTUNATELY, THIS HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC AT RUSH HOUR.
ON 10-2-15 WHILE MAKING A 90 DEGREE LEFT TURN AT ABOUT 15 MILES PER HOUR, ABOUT HALF WAY THROUGH THE TURN, THERE WAS SUDDENLY NO POWER STEERING. I GRABBED THE STEERING WHEEL WITH MY OTHER HAND AND WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CAR ENOUGH TO KEEP FROM HITTING A CURB. THERE WAS ALSO A QUICK WARNING BUZZER BUT NO DASH LIGHTS STAYED LIT. THE LOSS OF STEERING WAS ONLY FOR A SPLIT SECOND BUT ENOUGH TO FEEL LIKE THE CAR HAD QUIT RUNNING WHICH WAS NOT THE CASE. I TOOK THE CAR TO GREAT LAKES FORD IN MUSKEGON, MICHIGAN ON 10-5-15, TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR 10-12-15 TO HAVE IT CHECKED. I TOOK IT IN ON 10-12-15, THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND THEY RETRIEVED CODE B2278, DIAG. NEEDS STEERING COLUMN. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT UNDER RECALL14S05 AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE. ON 10-13-15 I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. IN SEPT. 2014, I RECEIVED THE RECALL LETTER FROM FORD ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND TOOK THE CAR TO GREAT LAKES FORD ON 10-27-14. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT THE RECALL WAS ABOUT AND THE PAPER WORK I GOT FROM THEM SIMPLY SAYS 14S05 ELECTRIC POWER STEERING RECALL 14S05 "14S05C". NO ONE EVEN SAID WHAT THE RECALL WAS ABOUT. AS IS, THIS CAR IS FLAT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. FORD IS AWARE THAT IT IS DANGEROUS BUT DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE EVEN THOUGH THEY KNOW IT'S A MANUFACTURES DEFECT.02/15

THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER HAVING THE U-JOINT LOCATED AT THE BOTTOM OF STEERING COLUMN REPLACED, THE TECHNICIAN INFORMED THAT THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THREE MONTHS PRIOR, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE INSPECTED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V284000 (STEERING). HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN EXPLAINED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS FUNCTIONING UP TO SPECIFICATIONS AND THERE WAS NO NEED FOR REPAIRS AT THE TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, WHO REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE STATUE OF LIMITATION HAD SURPASSED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 203,077.

ALL INSTRUMENT WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON. SPEEDOMETER ZEROED OUT. STEERING FAILED. ALSO HAPPENED TODAY(9/23/15). COMPUTER UPDATE DONE 13 MONTHS AGO FOR STEERING RECALL EVEN THOUGH I HAD NO PRIOR PROBLEMS.
I WAS AT A RED LIGHT PRECEDED TO GO FORWARD WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED A WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED AND THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE THERE WAS A SEMI TRUCK COMING AT HIGH RATE SPEED SO I HAD PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD IT WAS SCARY SITUATION I COULD'VE BEEN KILLED I LIKE FORD BUT I PROBABLY WILL NOT GET ANOTHER ONE IF THIS IS NOT RECALLED
I HAVE A 2008 FORD ESCAPE THAT HAD A RECALL ON IT. AFTER I TOOK IT IN TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP, MY CAR STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS RELATING TO THE RECALL. AFTER TAKING IT TO TWO DIFFERENT FORD COMPANIES AND PROVING THAT THE RECALL FIX DID NOT WORK AND IS CAUSING PROBLEMS, FORD REFUSES TO AUTHORIZE THE OTHER REPAIRS THAT IS COVERED UNDER THE RECALL, BECAUSE ONE REPAIR SHOP DID THE INITIAL UPDATE. NOW MY CAR IS HAVING MAJOR PROBLEMS, AND I CANNOT AFFORD TO FIX IT. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE TALKED TO 5 DIFFERENT PEOPLE ABOUT THE ISSUE AT FORD BUT THEY KEEP SAYING THAT THE CASE NUMBER I PROVIDE THE DEALERSHIP SHOULD TAKE CARE OF IT HOWEVER IT DOES NOT. IM A SINGLE MOTHER OF 3 WITH LOW INCOME AND IF MY CARS POWER STEERING GOES OUT AT A CRUCIAL TIME I COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT.
IGNITION HAD TO TURN SEVERAL TIMES TAKE KEY IN AND OUT. THEN ONE DAY JUST WOULD NOT START. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY.
I HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 8 MILES AND WAS TRAVELING AT 40MPH WHEN THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE REMAINED AT 40MPH WITHOUT MY FOOT BEING ON GAS PEDAL (CRUISE WAS NOT ON). I SUCCESSFULLY STOP AT TRAFFIC LIGHT WITH ENGINE STILL EXCELARATING (RPMS WERE AT 2K)). WHILE SITTING AT LIGHT THE ENGINE REVED TO ABOUT 5K RPMS AS I HELD THE BRAKE. I PULLED OVER TO VERIFY THAT NOTHING WAS UNDER THE GAS PEDAL. THIS HAPPENED TO MORE TIMES ON 9/9/15. MORNING OF 9/10 IT WORKED FINE UNTIL I HAD TRAVELED 8-10 MILES THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A GARAGE AND THE CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG OR RECREATE THE PROBLEM. THANK GOD I WAS NOT TRAVELING AT 75MPH WHEN THIS HAPPENED BECAUSE I DOUBT THE BRAKES WOULD STOPPED ME. THE GARAGE HAS KEPT THE CAR TONIGHT TO TRY TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN FEAR OF HURTING SOMEONE OR MYSELF.
VEHICLE DISPLAYED A WRENCH SYMBOL ON THE DASH AND VEHICLE LOST POWER TO THE WHEELS. AFTER PULLING OVER AND STOPPING I TRIED PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN DRIVE AND IT WOULD NOT MOVE. THEN I TRIED REVERSE AND AGAIN IT WOULD NOT MOVE. HAD IT SCANNED AND IT SUGGESTED THAT IT WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. AFTER READING PREVIOUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FORD SHOULD REALIZE THAT THIS A SERIOUS ISSUE AND SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND PUT A RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE VEHICLE IS SEVEN YEARS OLD AND UNDER 87,000 MILES IT SHOULD NOT BE THE OWNERS RRESPONSIBILITY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM.

THE POWER STEERING RETURNED TO NORMAL AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
WE WERE DRIVING HOME FROM ST LOUIS, MO ON THIS AFTERNOON. AS WE WERE APPROACHING OUR STREET THE STEERING, POWER, WENT OUT. MINIMUM CONTROL AT ROLLING SPEED. NO CONTROL AT STOP. I PARKED FOR THE NIGHT. CALLED SERVICE, REQUESTED TO TEST COMPUTER. CODE CAME UP B2278. THEY CHECKED FOR RECALLED THERE IS ONE. WHEN THE DEALER SERVICED THIS VEHICLE ON JULY 31, 14 THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED 14SO5. AT THAT TIME THE CODE DID NOT APPEAR AND THE COMPUTER WAS RESET. SINCE THEN THIS CODE DID COME UP, B2278. WHICH STATES REPLACE TORQUE SENSOR. FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND GEM CITY FORD, QUINCY IL STATED THE SAFETY RECALL EXPIRED. I AM FLABBERGASTED, HOW CAN A NATIONAL SAFETY RECALL EXPIRE?? IF THERE IS OR WAS A SAFETY DEFECT PLACED ON THIS VEHICLE HOW IN THE HELL CAN IT EXPIRE??? PLEASE EXPLAIN HOW, IF THIS WAS A TRUE CONCERN IN JULY, '14 AND THE SAME THING IS STILL HAPPENING "HOW" CAN THIS EXPIRE??? PLEASE EXPLAIN. I HAVE BEEN WITHOUT MY VEHICLE SINCE SEPTEMBER 1, 2015.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 45MPH, TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE AND NOTHING HAPPENED I COULD NOT GO ANY FASTER AND MY CAR SLOWED DOWN TO 20 MPH. I KEPT PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND NOTHING WOULD HAPPEN I HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. WHERE MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED BECAUSE I COULDN'T DRIVE IT ANYWHERE. I TOOK IT TO THE GARAGE THEY TOLD ME THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD AND TO REPLACE IT WAS 780.00 THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2009 TO 2013 MODELS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT NOT FOR 2008 OR HYBRIDS.
APPROXIMATELY 2 TO 3 WEEKS AGO I WAS SITTING IN A PARKING LOT AFTER SHOPPING, WENT TO START MY CAR AND IT WOULD NOT START. AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES AND SEVERAL ATTEMPTS THE CAR FINALLY TURNED OVER AND STARTED. I DROVE THE CAR HOME AND DID NOT GO OUT THE REST OF THE DAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. I CALLED A MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THAT IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS THE STARTER. I DID NOT THINK SO, BUT TOOK IT TO MECHANIC AND THEY DID THE WORK AND REPLACED THE STARTER COSTING ME MONEY THAT I DO NOT HAVE AS I AM ON A FIXED INCOME. GOT THE CAR BACK LAST WEEK AND YESTERDAY WAS SITTING IN A CAR DEALER LOT AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT START AND HAD TO CALL FOR A RIDE AFTER SITTING IN THE HOT 90 PLUS DEGREE HEAT. MY CAR IS IN THE SHOP AGAIN TODAY AND THEY ARE GOING TO TRY AND SEE IF THEY CAN FIGURE OUT WHY IT WILL NOT START. TO ME AND MY GRANDDAUGHTER IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS SOMETHING FAULTY IN THE STEERING COLUMN. EITHER WAY, I AM TERRIFIED THAT IT WILL START A FIRE, OR WORSE LEAVE ME STRANDED WHERE NO ONE CAN COME AND GET ME. I AM AN ELDERLY WOMAN AND CAN NOT HAVE THESE ISSUES WITH MY CAR. IF THIS COULD BE LOOKED INTO AND TAKEN CARE OF AS SOON AS POSSIBLE I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. I HAVE THE INVOICES FROM THE WORK THAT HAS BEEN DONE ON THIS PARTICULAR PART OF THE CAR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP SIGN AND TURNING RIGHT TO MERGE WITH ONCOMING TRAFFIC, THE DASHBOARD DISPLAYED "THE TRACTION CONTROL KICKED IN" AND THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION AVAILABLE WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TONE RING WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,700.
WHEN DRIVING AT 35 MPH THE BRAKE WARNING CAME ON. I PULLED OVER BECAUSE I THOUGHT MAYBE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ON, STOPPED, APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND RELEASED IT, BUT THE WARNING WAS STILL ON. IN A FEW MILES, I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION, CHECKED THE BRAKE FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS FINE. ON THE WAY HOME I GOT THE CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM, REGEN BRAKES DISABLED, ABS LIGHT ERROR. THE BRAKES FEEL SPONGY AND IT TAKES A LOT OF ERROR TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER HAS GIVEN US AN ESTIMATE OF $4700 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. I SEE THERE ARE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE FORD ESCAPE HYBRIDS AND CAN'T BELIEVE THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL!
ON 8/24/15 MY IGNITION SWITCH HOUSING HAD TO BE REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE PER MY INVOICE. WHICH I WAS TOLD WOULD BE NEEDED AS IT CAUSES STEERING DIFFICULTIES AND MAY REQUIRE AN INCREASE IN STEERING EFFORT. IT COULD ALSO RESULT IN THE TOTAL LOSS OF STEERING. INITIAL I WENT IN BECAUSE I HAD TROUBLE WITH STARTING MY CAR. THE SAME ISSUES LISTED IN A SAFETY RECALL BACK IN JULY 2014 (RECALL NOTICE 14S05) BEGIN AGAIN. I WAS DRIVING WITH FAMILY. I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND IT WENT TOTALLY FLAT. THE ABS AND CHECK BRAKES LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE BRAKES ARE CURRENTLY TOTALLY UNOPERATIONAL. I TOOK CAR IN FOR REPAIRS, TOLD THAT A NEW ABS CONTROL MODULE(HYBRID ECU & HCU) REQUIRED - COST $4000.
IN A FIRST INCIDENT, I WAS IN N.Y. AND I PARKED THE CAR. WHEN I WANTED TO GO HOME, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS STIFF AND IT TOOK MY WHOLE STRENGTH WITH BOTH ARMS TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WHEN TO SLEEP. THE NEXT MORNING, I WENT TO THE CAR THAT STARTED NORMALLY AND STEERED NORMALLY. COME TO BE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CAR FOR THE STEERING WHEEL. I MADE AND APPOINTMENT, THE NEXT WEEK, WITH A FORD DEALER AND THE FIXED THE RECALL BY GOING ON THE COMPUTER. THE SECOND INSTANCE WAS AROUND 8/12/15, THE CAR WAS PARKED NEAR MY HOME AND I INTENDED TO MOVE IT INTO THE STREET AND DRIVE OFF. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT MOVE, BUT A FEW INCHES, EVEN WITH TOTAL STRENGTH. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALER. THE MECHANIC IN CHARGE TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE CAR AND THAT TO CHECK IT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY AROUND $90. I HAD IT TOWED TO ANOTHER MECHANIC WHO TOLD ME THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST STEERING SYSTEM (EPAS).
WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY MAKES A HARD STOP AND BRAKES; IT LOOSES BRAKES MOMENTARILY YET RETURNS TO NORMAL AFTER 1) PUMPING SEVERAL TIMES OR 2) COOLING OFF . NO SIGNAL OR WARNINGS.
I HAD MY CRUISE CONTROL ON AND HAD USED THE COAST BUTTON TO SLOW DOWN WHEN APPROACHING A CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I PROCEED TO ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDDLE CONTINUED TO GO DOWN AND SPEED INCREASE. I PRESSED THE OFF BUTTON ON CRUISE CONTROL AND IT WOULD NOT TURN OFF. WITH BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE CONTINUED FORWARD. AS I LEFT THE ROAD WAY I TRIED TURNING VEHICLE OFF BUT IT KEPT RUNNING AT ABOUT 40 MILES PER HOUR I TRIED PUTTING IT IN NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUED FORWARD AT WHICH TIME I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE ENGINE STOPPED. AFTER 30 SECONDS I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE ROARED, SO I SHUT IT OFF. IN THE PROCESS OF CALLING FOR ASSISTANT, LESS THAN A MINUTE, I HEARD A SOUND OF SOMETHING BEING RELEASE AND THE GAS PEDAL HIT MY FOOT. I STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE ENGINE/SPEED WAS NORMAL. FRICK FORD DEALERSHIP SAYS ONLY AN ACCELERATION CODE SHOWING AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THEY SAID IT PROBABLY IS THE FLOOR MAT AND I SHOULD REMOVE THEM. THEY ONLY WORRIED ABOUT WARRANTY AND RECALL ISSUE AND DID NOT ADVISE ANY SERVICE WORK I WOULD PAY FOR OR DID THE EVEN RECOMMEND THIS.

I RELEASED PRESSURE AND PRESSED AGAIN. AN EXTREME AMOUNT OF EFFORT WAS NEEDED TO PRESS THE BRAKES (BRAKES NOW IN SAFE/MANUAL MODE). I GOT AN ABS LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, AND CHECK BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING. AFTER I STOPPED, I PULLED OVER SHUT DOWN THE MOTOR, WAITED A MINUTE, AND RESTARTED. AFTER RESTART, BRAKES WORLD NORMALLY. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPED SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN THE PAST 6 MONTHS.

I HAVE SEEN A LOT OF COMPLAINTS IN REGARDS TO THIS AND MANY OTHER ISSUES THAT ARE GOING WRONG WITH FORD'S ESCAPE MODEL. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED, WITH THE AMOUNT OF ISSUES THAT SUV HAS.

HOWEVER, WITHIN THREE DAYS THE POWER STEERING SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE POINT OF THE RECALL WAS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE OF SUDDEN POWER STEERING SHUTOFF WITHOUT WARNING. I ALMOST HIT THE CAR IN THE OUTER TURN LANE AND WAS ALMOST HIT BY THE CAR BEHIND ME. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND EXPLAINED THE ISSUE. SHE GAVE ME A CASE # CAS7268220T6F2P6 TO GIVE TO THE DEALER SERVICE DEPT AS A MATTER OF PRIORITY. AFTER A FEW DAYS, THEY SAID ON INSPECTION IT ONLY NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED TO FIX THE ISSUE. ABOUT 3 WEEKS LATER, THE POWER STEERING FAILURE HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE SAME FORD DEALER ON 06/22/2015 AND ON 06/25/2015 WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT FORD DID NOT APPROVE THEM TO ADDRESS MY POWER STEERING FAILURE BECAUSE MY CAR HAD EXCEEDED 12 MONTHS OR 12,000 MILES FROM THE FIRST DATE ADDRESSED. I CALLED FORD TO DISPUTE THEIR DECISION, STATING THAT I THOUGHT THE PURPOSE OF THE RECALL WAS TO FIX AN OVERWHELMING FAILURE OF A PART OR SYSTEM. I SAID THAT WHAT IF THE REPROGRAMMING DID NOT WORK, WERE THEY NOT OBLIGATED TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART IF NECESSARY. WILL FORD NOW HIDE BEHIND A 12 MONTH/12,000 MILE RULE. THE FORD REP SAID HER HANDS WERE TIED BY COMPANY POLICY. I AM PASSING THIS ON TO THE NHTSA FOR FAIR RESOLUTION. THIS 2008 FORD ESCAPE HAD ANOTHER RECALL # 14S19 RELATING TO ELECTRONIC COOLING PUMP FAILURE. FORD SENT NOTICES OUT IN MAY 2015. MY COOLING PUMP FAILURE OCCURRED IN MAY 2013. I SPENT $747.31 TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. THE DEALERSHIP SAID, WITH THE PART REPLACED, I ONLY NEEDED REPROGRAMMING. FORD AGREED TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THE $747.31. SHOULD FORD NOT NOW BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACING THE DEFECTIVE STEERING COLUMN IF REPROGRAMMING HAS FAILED (QUOTED AT $1135+TAX).
