THE CAR SEEM TO LOOSE POWER SHUT THE CAR OFF AND RESTART IT AND ITS OK FOR AWHILE THE COMPUTER RESETS ITSELF. THE DEALER TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY IS ON BACK ORDER SO WHAT DO I DRIVE? *TR
WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN IN MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE THE CAR LOSS ALL ACCELERATION. THE NEXT MORNING IT HAPPENED TWICE MORE. MY MECHANIC TOOK THE CAR & ATTACHED TO THE COMPUTER AND THE CODE P2112 APPEARED. HE CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND TOOK A TEST DRIVE. IT LOST ACCELERATION 10 MORE TIMES. THIS IS A DISGRACE AND THE PART MUST BE RECALLED BY THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY! *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND SUDDENLY THE WRENCH LIT UP AND MY CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN, EVEN THOUGH I CONTINUED TO HOLD DOWN THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY SINCE IT WAS LATE AT NIGHT, BUT DURING RUSH HOUR, I WOULD HAVE CREATED A PILE UP. THE CAR STARTED FINE ABOUT 10 MINUTES LATER, BUT I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM AND THEY ARE ON BACK ORDER AND I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR OR DRIVE A CAR AROUND THAT COULD RANDOMLY STALL FOR THE NEXT WEEK. I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR THE PARTS TO COME IN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AND THE TRUCK JUST STOP. IT WOULD NOT GO UNTIL I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN. THEN, IT TOOK OFF FAST AND SLOWED DOWN AGAIN. WE HAD TO PUSH THE CAR HOME! LUCKILY, WE WAS NOT TOO FAR FROM HOME. WE WAS ON OUR WAY TO CHURCH, INSTEAD PUSHING A HEAVY TRUCK IN OUR GOOD CLOTHES. A HOT MESS. WE HAD THIS TRUCK A OUT 11 MONTHS. I BOUGHT A WARRANTY BUT GUESS WHAT IT DID NOT COVER THE THROTTLE BODY. ITS AT THE FORD DEALER CAUSING $410.00 THAT I DO NOT HAVE; PLUS THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. IT COULD TAKE UP TO 3 WEEKS TO GET HERE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, VEHICLE STALLED, NO POWER, WE HAD TO PULL OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER. THE WRENCH ICON WAS DISPLAYED. AFTER TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE, WE WERE ABLE TO RESTART ENGINE AND TRAVEL HOME. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES. LUCKILY, WE WERE ABLE TO PULL OVER WITH NO COLLISION, ALTHOUGH ON TWO OCCASIONS, TRAFFIC WAS HEAVY. AFTER THE THIRD INCIDENT, WE MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT OUR FORD DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY DIAGNOSED THROTTLE BODY FAILURE AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY AT THE COST OF $500.00, NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. MILEAGE ON THE ODOMETER IS 55,000. WHY HAS THERE BEEN NO RECALL ON THIS PART? ARE YOU WAITING FOR SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH? THIS IS AN EXTREMELY HAZARDOUS INCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND THE NHTSA ARE OBLIGATED TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC AND ISSUE A RECALL AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING FROM MICHIGAN TO MISSOURI WITH DAUGHTER AND GRANDDAUGHTER ON EXPRESSWAY AT 70 MPH MY VEHICLE HAD A WRENCH LIGHT COME ON DASH BOARD ALONG WITH ENGINE LIGHT. I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TURNED VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTARTED AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE. IT DID THIS REPEATEDLY. I PULLED OFF FREEWAY AND WENT TO AUTOPARTS STORE THAT TOLD ME THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH THROTTLE BODY SENSOR AND NEEDED TO TAKE TO DEALER, WHICH I DID TODAY. I AM ON VACATION AND CAR IS AT FORD DEALERSHIP IN CAMDENTON, MO. I DON'T KNOW OUTCOME YET AS DEALER NOT ABLE TO LOOK AT VEHICLE UNTIL TOMORROW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AS THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,500. UPDATED 8/15/13 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED FORD PAID FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE THROTTLE BODY. THE REPAIRS TOOK ONE WEEK. UPDATED 08/22/13
DRIVING AT 50 MPH, ENGINE WENT TO IDLE AND WAS UNRESPONSIVE TO THROTTLE SO CAR COASTS TO A STOP. A WARNING LIGHT THAT LOOKS LIKE A WRENCH CAME ON. THIS INDICATES A POWER TRAIN FAULT AND A FEW DAYS LATER THE DEALER DIAGNOSED AND REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE HEADING TO WORK WHEN I LOST ALL POWER. THE VEHICLE DID NOT DIE OR STALL, IT LOST POWER AND THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT WORK. AS MY SPEED STARTED DECLINING, I HAD TO IMMEDIATELY TURN ON MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS AND MOVE OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHICH WAS HARD AT THE TIME WITH OTHER TRAFFIC IN THAT LANE. AND THE DECREASING SPEED WHILE I WAS IN MY LANE HAD ME NERVOUS AS OTHER VEHICLES CAME UP FLYING BEHIND ME. AS SOON AS I PULLED OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, MY CAR IMMEDIATELY DIED. I TRIED TO TURN IT ON AFTER ABOUT TEN MINUTES AND THE ENGINE JUST ROLLED BUT WOULD NOT COME ON. AFTER ABOUT 25 MINUTES, MY CAR STARTED UP AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO A DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID RIGHT AWAY THAT IT WAS PROBABLY THE THROTTLE BODY, BUT THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WOULD TAKE UP TO A WEEK TO GET IN. AFTER THEY CHECKED IT OUT, IT WAS IN FACT THE THROTTLE BODY. I ENDED UP LUCKING OUT BECAUSE THEY DID HAVE A PART FOR ME. UPON PAYING FOR MY REPAIR, I WAS TOLD BY THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT, THAT THEY HAD SEEN A MAJOR SPIKE IN THIS REPAIR. THEY EVEN SAID THEY ONCE HAD 15 CARS IN ONE DAY THAT ALL NEEDED THE THROTTLE BODY REPAIRED. AND THAT IS WHY THE PART HAD ORIGINALLY BEEN ON BACK ORDER. THEY ALSO STATED THAT THEY WERE NOT THE ONLY DEALERSHIP NOTICING THIS SPIKE. I WAS INFORMED TO KEEP ALL MY PAPERWORK BECAUSE WITH THIS KIND OF SPIKE, IT COULD LEAD TO A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE THROTTLE CONTROL AND ENGINE LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE MIL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE EVAC CANISTER HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. DRIVING UP A HILL AND THE CAR STALLED. NO POWER. WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTART. CAR STALLED TWO MORE TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET IT HOME. ONCE FROM A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION LIGHT WHICH RESULTED IN A STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION ALMOST CAUSING A WRECK. THE SECOND TIME AS I SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE A TURN. TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO A FORD DEALER. DEFECTIVE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS ON BACKORDER. THEY HAVE HAD MY CAR A WEEK NOW. MAY BE ANOTHER WEEK BEFORE PART COMES IN. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PART BREAKDOWN AND FORD NEEDS TO FIX IT FREE. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND ENTERING A RAMP, THE ENGINE JUST LOST POWER AND THERE WAS A RAPID DECELERATION. THE CAR HAD NO POWER AND I HAD TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. THERE WAS A WRENCH SYMBOL LIT UP ON THE DASH. I TOWED THE CAR TO A FORD DEALER IN BETTENDORF IOWA. THEY TOLD ME THE PROBLEM WAS A BAD THROTTLE BODY AND IT WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS BECAUSE THERE WAS 5 CARS AHEAD OF ME WAITING FOR THE SAME PARTS. SOUNDS LIKE A COMMON MAJOR PROBLEM. SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. IT COULD HAVE CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION. *JB
I WAS TRAVELING AT APX 45 MPH WHEN THE YELLOW WRENCH ERROR MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE DASH. AT THE SAME TIME THE VEHICLE CEASED TO RESPOND TO THE GAS PEDAL. THE ENGINE AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REMAINED ON HOWEVER THERE WAS NO POWER COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE COASTED AS IT LOST MOMENTUM. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE MAJOR ROAD THAT I WAS ON. THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED AS I CAME TO A STOP AND TURNED IT OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, THE YELLOW WRENCH ERROR LIGHT WENT OUT AND THE VEHICLE STARTED WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE FORD DEALERSHIP LATER DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE THROTTLE BODY COMPONENT. THERE HAD BEEN NO PREVIOUS INDICATORS OF ANY PROBLEMS. VEHICLE HAD BEEN SERVICED FOLLOWING THE MANUFACTURERS SERVICE REQUIREMENTS. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHILE DRIVING ON NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE, CAR LURCHED AND NO LONGER HAD ANY GAS ACCELERATION CAPABILITY, WHILE IN FOUR LANES OF HEAVY TRAFFIC. CAREFULLY MANEUVERED INTO RIGHT BREAKDOWN LANE AND BROUGHT CAR TO A STOP. WHEN STOPPED, VEHICLE LURCHED AND SPUTTERED UNTIL KEY WAS TURNED OFF. ONCE TURNED BACK ON, CAR STARTED NORMALLY. THE ISSUE OCCURRED 4 MORE TIMES DURING THE TRIP. THIS WAS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE AND HIGHLY STRESSFUL TO OUR FAMILY. *TR
TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY, GOING 60 MPH, MY WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE. THIS HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO GET SOMEWHERE SAFE TO CALL A TOW TRUCK. IT TURNS OUT I HAVE A BAD THROTTLE BODY WHICH I HAVE SINCE LEARNED IS QUITE COMMON IN 2010 FORD ESCAPES. THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON THIS ITEM. YES, THE ENGINE DID WHAT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO, BUT LOSING POWER AT 60 MPH DURING RUSH HOUR IS QUITE DANGEROUS. *TR
MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUT OF A PARKING LOT WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR STARTED TO DECREASE IN ACCELERATION EVEN THOUGH HIS FOOT WAS ON THE GAS PEDAL. HE THEN APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE AND THE CAR PULSED TO A STOP. HE PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND SHUT IT OFF. WHEN TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN OVER RIGHT AWAY, AND TOOK AT LEAST 5 SECONDS OR MORE FOR IT TO START. SINCE THIS ISSUE HAS OCCURRED, IT HAS HAPPENED 7 MORE TIMES IN A MATTER OF 5 DAYS. LUCKILY THIS HAPPENED WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING MY CAR AND HE CONTINUES TO DRIVE IT UNTIL WE GET IT FIXED. I PRIMARILY DRIVE THIS CAR 99% OF THE TIME AND I AM 7 MONTHS PREGNANT. I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE WHAT I WOULD DO IF THIS HAPPENED TO ME ON THE HIGHWAY OR IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. WE ARE VERY LUCKY THAT NO ONE GOT HURT DURING THESE INSTANCES. I CAN'T BELIEVE FORD HAS NOT DONE A MAJOR RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. MY SISTER IN-LAW HAD THE SAME ISSUES WITH HER 2009 ESCAPE AND JUST RECENTLY HAD HER THROTTLE BODY REPLACED AS WELL. THE LACK OF CARING ABOUT ITS CUSTOMERS WILL DEFINITELY MAKE ME RETHINK ABOUT EVER BUYING A FORD AGAIN. *TR
VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING BUT ENGINE WAS ON. THROTTLE BODY HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
JUST DRIVING ALONG ONE DAY AND UPON CROSSING AN INTERSECTION OF A BUSY STREET THE CALL STALLED. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL AND COULDNT ACCELERATE. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OF ON A SIDE STREET WITHOUT HOLDING UP TRAFFIC. WHEN I GOT TO THE SIDE STREET I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND AFTER TAKING AWHILE IT FINALLY STARTED BACK UP ONLY TO DO THE SAME THING A BLOCK LATER. THE PROBLEM SEEMED TO HAVE GONE AWAY FOR A COUPLE WEEKS BUT HAS CAME BACK RECENTLY AND IS EVER MORE FREQUENT. WHEN IT SETS OVER NIGHT OR FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME IT IS DRIVEABLE BUT AFTER A FEW MILES IT STARTS TO STALL AGAIN. DRIVING UNDER 30 MPH OR ACCELERATING SUPER SLOW SEEMS TO HELP SOME TIMES BUT NOT ALWAYS. STILL PROBABLY NOT VERY SAFE TO DRIVE IT LIKE THAT ESPECIALLY PULLING ONTO A BUSY STREET OR OUT INTO A BUSY INTERSECTION. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR, THERE WAS A NOISE AND THEN A LITTLE WRENCH APPEARED ON MY CONTROL PANEL. THE CAR STARTED TO DECELERATE AND THEN I SHUT IT DOWN. I TURNED IT BACK ON, IT SEEMED TO BE OKAY, AS I DROVE DOWN THE ROAD I HEARD THE NOISE AGAIN AND THE CAR STAYED AT 40 MPH. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. ONCE AGAIN I STOPPED, TURNED IT OFF. I STARTED IT BACK UP. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER, THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN, THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS BAD. *TR
AT LEAST 10 TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW WEEKS, MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE HAS LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE RPM'S DROP AND THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND WHEN PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL. ALSO THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON. CHANGING THE TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL DOES NOT AFFECT THE STALL. TYPICALLY AFTER TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AND STARTING IT AGAIN, THE ENGINE RESETS TO NORMAL. TODAY, THIS HAPPEN ON A CROWDED INTERSTATE SURROUNDED BY SEMI TRUCKS AT 65 MPH. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO COAST THROUGH LANES OF TRAFFIC AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS DEFECT IS CONSIDERABLY DANGEROUS AND NEEDS ATTENTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FROM FORD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 IN THE SLOW LANE WHEN SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO LOOSE POWER. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT WORK. NO GAS SEEMED TO BE GOING TO THE ENGINE BUT IT WAS STILL RUNNING. THE GOOD THING WAS I WAS IN THE SLOW LANE OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE BEEN IN SERIOUS TROUBLE. I SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND WAITED A FEW MOMENTS BEFORE RESTARTING. IT STARTED UP AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET LED ME TO THIS SITE BUT IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WHICH FORD NEEDS TO TAKE OF BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AT THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE REAR HATCH DOOR COULD ONLY BE OPENED ELECTRONICALLY AND NOT MANUALLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000 AND THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,100...UPDATED 09-18-13 *BF
AROUND 5PM DRIVING HOME ON A MAIN STREET DURING RUSH HOUR, I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 35-40MPH AND SUDDENLY MY VEHICLE, AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT, STOPPED ACCELERATING AND BEGAN TO TUG. ALSO, THE THROTTLE CONTROL/POWER TRAIN LIGHT TURNED ON. I TURNED ON THE EMERGENCY HAZARD LIGHTS AND ATTEMPTED TO DEVIATED TO A PARKING LOT WHERE I TURNED OFF MY VEHICLE. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES TO TURN IT BACK ON, AND THE VEHICLE TURNED ON AS USUAL. THE THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON. I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE HOME, BUT IT WASN'T 5 MILES INTO THE TRIP WHEN THE VEHICLE MALFUNCTIONED AGAIN. A FEW DAYS PASSED AND MY VEHICLE WAS WORKING OKAY, HOWEVER I STARTED TO NOTICE A SLUGGISH FEEL TO IT, AS WELL AS THAT IT WAS HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS. TODAY, DRIVING HOME AGAIN, I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE ABOUT 50MPH, AND THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY MALFUNCTIONED. I NEARLY GOT REAR ENDED. NOW BOTH THE THROTTLE CONTROL AND ENGINE CHECK LIGHTS TURNED ON. I TURNED OFF MY VEHICLE, AND THIS TIME THE ENGINE CHECK REMAINS ON. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED MY VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. *TR
WIFE WAS DRIVING VEHICLE 6 MILES FROM HOME, VEHICLE BEGAN STUMBLING AND WOULD HARDLY RUN. MADE IT OUT OF 4 LANE ROAD TO SAFETY. WRENCH SYMBOL SHOWED TILL ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. WIFE WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE VEHICLE UNTIL 7/28/2013 WHEN WE TRIED IT AGAIN. I CAN NOT DRIVE VEHICLE SINCE HAVING A STROKE BUT WAS WITH HER. WE DROVE VEHICLE TO YMCA AND IT WENT TO LIMPING AFTER 9 MILES, SHUT OFF AND LET SET FOR 5-6 MINUTES. VEHICLE RAN OK FOR AN ADDITIONAL 5 MILES TO Y. STARTED HOME AFTER 1 HOUR AT Y. VEHICLE RAN APPROX 5 MILES IN 45 AND 30 MPH SPEED LIMIT AREA. IT STARTED LIMPING APPROX. 500 FEET FROM STOP LIGHT. IT WENT IN LIMP MODE 4 MORE TIMES IN THE LAST 9 MILES TO GET HOME. LUCKILY THE TRAFFIC WAS NOT REAL HEAVY LATE IN AFTERNOON AND WE MADE IT HOME WITHOUT ANY ACCIDENTS; ONLY A VERY STRESSFUL RIDE HOME. VEHICLE NOW SHOWED ENGINE SYMBOL. WE READ THE FAULT CODE AND IT WAS P2111 OR FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR WHICH DEALER SAID WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AT 36K. MILES. *TR
I WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND UPON ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE, VEHICLE LOST POWER. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND NO MATTER HOW FAR DOWN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL, I COULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. THANKFULLY, I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION, RESTARTED AND VEHICLE DROVE FINE FOR ABOUT 500FT AND THEN IT BEGAN DOING THE SAME THING. THIS CONTINUED MY ENTIRE 5 MILE TRIP HOME. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS JUST TO LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING. MECHANIC INDICATES DEFECTIVE "THROTTLE BODY." *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING WITH MY DAUGHTER, MOTHER AND SISTER AT APPROX. 40MPH. IN TRAFFIC, WHEN THE CAR APPARENTLY WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE AND BOGGED DOWN THE ENGINE TO WHERE SHE COULD NOT ACCELERATE OR MANEUVER THE CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC. SHE FINALLY WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF HARMS WAY AND PULLED OF INTO A PARKING LOT. FROM THERE SHE TURNED THE CAR OFF, AND STARTED THE CAR AND PROCEEDED TO BABY THE ACCELERATOR SO SHE WAS ABLE TO RETURN SEVERAL MILES HOME. FROM THERE, I TOOK THE CAR AROUND THE BLOCK AND ACCELERATED QUICKLY WHERE THE CAR RETURNED TO FAIL SAFE MODE AND CUT THE ENGINE. I CHECKED THE CAR WITH AN OBDII CODE READER WHICH CAME UP WITH THE P2112 CODE AND SAID "THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM - STUCK CLOSED". *TR
DRIVING AND GAS PEDAL LOST ALL POWER. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD, ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN ABOUT 700/800 RPM. I NOTICED THE WRENCH SYMBOL WAS LIT IN DASHBOARD SO I TURNED OFF A/C OPENED ALL WINDOWS & SHUT OFF ENGINE. AFTER ABOUT 30 SECONDS OR SO, I RE-STARTED THE CAR & DROVE BACK HOME (APPROX. 35 MILES) . THE FOLLOWING DAY I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER & EXPLAINED MY PROBLEM. DEALER SAID THIS WAS PROBABLY A THROTTLE CONTROL / POWERTRAIN PROBLEM. THEY OFFERED ME SOME SUGGESTIONS TO HELP WITH THIS TROUBLE, WHICH I HAVE DONE. AS OF TODAY 7/25/2013 VEHICLE SEEMS TO BE RUNNING FINE. I HOPE THIS GETS RESOLVED BECAUSE I REALLY LIKE THIS VEHICLE. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENT ON VEHICLE, WHICH OCCURRED ON AUG.13,2013 WHILE DRIVING APPROX.35/40 M.P.H. EVERYTHING WAS ALMOST EXACTLY LIKE THE FIRST INCIDENT, EXCEPT THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON UNTIL THE NEXT DAY WHEN I RETURNED IT TO MY FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR. I WAS DRIVING AT 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, I PULLED OVER QUICKLY AND IT WAS BARELY RUNNING, THE ENGINE WAS SPUTTERING. I SHUT IT OFF WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND THEN STARTED, IT WORKED AFTER. THAT PROBLEM THEN HAPPENED 3 MORE TIMES IN THE NEXT 20MIN. DRIVING AT 55 MPH, CAR JERKED AND THE GAS PEDAL FAILED TO RESPOND. COASTED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TURNED VEHICLE OFF. RESTARTED AND STARTED DRIVING AGAIN WITH OUT PROBLEM. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN EXCEPT WITH A LARGE CEMENT TRUCK BEHIND ME. THE FORD DIED AND THERE WAS NO SHOULDER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CEMENT TRUCK WAS ABLE TO GO INTO THE ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANE TO MISS ME. THE ESCAPE DID THE SAME SCENARIO TWICE ON THE WAY TO THE GARAGE. ( WITH OUT THE CEMENT TRUCK) THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AROUND 70MPH WHEN CAR WENT INTO A "LIMP" MODE AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR, IT PERFORMED AS NORMAL AND NO WRENCH LIGHT WAS LIT. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN ONE WEEK AT VARYING SPEEDS. MY FORD STORE DID NOT FIND A PROBLEM. I'VE ALSO FELT A SURGE WHEN THE ACCELERATING THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGH WAY AT APPROX. 65MPG THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT AND THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER TRAIN. AT THE SAME TIME THE GAS PEDAL BECAME UNRESPONSIVE WHILE THE ENGINE RPMS DROPPED TO A ROUGH IDLE THE FLUCTUATED BETWEEN 800-1200 RPMS. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS ON BUT THE ORANGE WRENCH SYMBOL WAS NO LONGER LIT. I CONTINUED TO DRIVE HOME, MULTIPLE TIMES AFTER THAT THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THROTTLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AND THE ENGINE DROPPED TO A ROUGH IDLE. EACH TIME THIS HAPPENED I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF AND THEN TURNED IT BACK ON AND THE ENGINE OPERATED AS NORMAL FOR A TIME TILL THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE THROTTLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. UPON PLUGGING THE CAR TO A DIAGNOSTIC I HAD 3 ERROR CODES THAT INDICATED THAT THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR WAS STUCK OPEN. *TR
ON JULY 20, 2013 I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY PARENTS (63 & 67 RESPECTIVELY) WHEN SUDDENLY (OUT OF THE BLUE) I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL BUT VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD AND THE VEHICLE WAS JERKING. I HAD A CAR BEHIND ME THAT ALMOST CRASH ON ME. I MANAGED TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULDER. I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND TURNED IT ON WITHIN 2-3 MINUTES AND IT WORKED PERFECTLY (AS IF NOTHING HAS HAPPENED). I WENT HOME THAT NIGHT (10:30PM MORE OR LESS). I WENT TO A LOCAL PEP BOYS STORE NEXT DAY SINCE THE DEALERS WERE CLOSED (SUNDAY). THEY CHECKED IT AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK. ON MONDAY, JULY 21, SAME ISSUE HAPPENED TWICE WITHIN 30 MINUTE RANGE. I CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT FOR TUESDAY. I'VE LEFT IT THERE FOR A CHECK UP. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED 5 MONTHS AGO AND THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY IS LIMITED... LOSING POWER OF GAS AND VEHICLE DYING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY/ROAD CERTAINLY SEEM TO BE A SAFETY HAZARD! *TR

WAS ABLE TO COAST TO SHOULDER, YELLOW WRENCH SYMBOL WAS LIT UP, TURNED OFF ENGINE, RE-STARTED, CONTINUED TO WORK. HAPPENED AGAIN @ ABOUT 30 MPH, 15 MINUTES LATER, ON CITY STREET. CALLED FORD SERVICE LATER THAT MORNING AND SCHEDULED TO DROP VEHICLE OFF NEXT BUSINESS DAY (HAD TO DRIVE IT FOR TWO MORE DAYS). HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES DURING ALL TYPES OF DRIVING: HIGHWAY, RURAL, CITY; AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 25-70 MPH, BOTH WITH AND WITHOUT CRUISE CONTROL BEING USED. GOT VEHICLE TO DEALER IN AFTERNOON. SERVICE TECH CALLED AROUND DINNER TIME TO SAY THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. REPAIRS MADE AT A COST OF ABOUT $450. PICKED VEHICLE UP LATER IN EVENING. NO PROBLEMS SO FAR. WHILE PRESSING GAS PEDAL IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE IT JUST CONTINUED TO SLOW DOWN. I COASTED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IT STARTS JERKING. I PUT CAR IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. IT TOOK 2 TRIES TO GET IT STARTED, BUT ONCE IT STARTED IT RAN LIKE NOTHING WAS WRONG. ON JULY 26, 2013 SAME SYMPTOMS HAPPENED 4 TIMES. SAME SYMPTOMS HAPPENED AGAIN ON AUG. 1, 2013 DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WHEN I WAS SITTING AT A RED LIGHT AND WHEN LIGHT TURNED GREEN I GAVE IT GAS TO GO AND IT MESSED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION AND I LUCKILY MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD! I TURNED IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON (TOOK 2 TRIES) AND DROVE IT HOME. NEXT MORNING I HAD IT TOWED TO LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY CALLED ME ABOUT 4 HRS LATER STATING THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND IT WILL COST JUST SHY OF $600! I WAS ALSO TOLD THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND IT MAY BE A WEEK BEFORE THEY GET IT. THIS ISSUE HAPPENS RANDOMLY AND THERE IS NO WARNING BEFORE IT HAPPENS. THIS IS DANGEROUS! FINALLY ON THE LAST SHUT DOWN, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND ENGINE STARTED TO SHAKE WITH NO RESPONSE. VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN DOWN A COUNTY HIGHWAY AT 55 MPH WHEN IT JERKED FORWARD AND SUDDENLY LOST POWER. THE VEHICLE COASTED TO ALMOST A CRAWL BEFORE THERE WAS ANY SIGN OF LIFE TO IT. MY WIFE CALLED ME AND I ASKED HER TO PULL OVER TO A SAFE PLACE. I TOLD HER TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTART IT. WHEN SHE DID THIS, SHE WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE THEN JERKED AGAIN AND SWITCHED INTO THE LIMP MODE. AT THIS POINT MY WIFE PULLED OVER AND CALL A TOW TRUCK. THE FIRST MECHANIC I TOOK IT TO SAID THAT I NEEDED TO TAKE IT TO FORD AND THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. ONCE I GOT IT TO FORD, THEY LOOKED AT IT AND SAID THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACE. IT'S HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. THERE MUST BE A DEMAND FOR THE PART! I AM THANKFUL THAT MY WIFE IS FINE, BUT I AM CONCERNED THAT THE JERK THAT SHE FELT COULD HAVE LED TO AN ACCIDENT. I WOULD HATE TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO ANY ONE ELSE. *TR

DIFFERENT REPAIR SHOP DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS THE THROTTLE BODY. FORD DEALERS IN THE AREA TOLD ME THERE WERE 3700 OF THESE PARTS ON BACK ORDER! GEE, MAYBE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MASSIVE NUMBERS NEEDING TO BE REPLACED! A RECALL NEEDS TO BE INITIATED. MY INCIDENT ON THE INTERSTATE ALMOST RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. *TR
ON THE 18TH OF JULY, 2013, WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE IN MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE, MY SUV SUDDENLY LOST ALL THROTTLE CONTROL AND SEEMED TO DIE. MY WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS GETTING NO RESPONSE FROM THE THROTTLE AND MY ENGINE WAS RUNNING ROUGHLY. I SHUT OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT AND TRIED TO DRIVE AGAIN. AT 20 MPH THE THROTTLE STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. I WAS ONLY A FEW HUNDRED YARDS FROM A TRUCK WEIGHT STATION AND WAS ABLE TO CRAWL TO THE STATION AT ABOUT 15 MPH TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE A CODE READER IN MY VEHICLE AND GOT P2111 AND P2112 WHICH IS THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM - STUCK OPEN AND STUCK CLOSED RESPECTIVELY. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A WHILE I WAS ABLE TO START IT AND THE WRENCH LIGHT HAD GONE OUT. I WAS ABLE TO GO 60 MPH FOR THE REST OF MY 12 HOUR TRIP WITH NO PROBLEMS. TODAY AUGUST 6, 2013 MY CAR DID THE SAME THING. I WAS HOPING IT WAS A COMPUTER GLITCH AND THAT I HAD GOTTEN AWAY ONE OCCURRENCE, BUT THAT WAS NOT THE CASE. *TR
