MY THROTTLE BODY BROKE WHICH PUT THE CAR INTO SAFE MODE.THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES BEFORE I COULD GET IT REPAIRED AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP.THE DEALER TOLD ME HE REPLACED 3 THAT SAME DAY.
SPEED FROM 70 TO ZERO. FIRST TIME ON FREEWAY AGAIN IT HAPPEN MANY TIMES PULL OVER SHUTOFF ENG. RESTART. CALL FORD MOTOR AND DEALER BOTH SAY UNLESS THEY COULD GET THE CODE FROM ENG. NOT ONE THING COULD BE DONE.IT HAPPEN AGAIN MY AUTO REPAIR SHOP I WALKED OVER THERE THEY GOT THE CODE AND I TOOK IT TO REPAIR SHOP THEY PUT ON NEW THROTTLE BODY IT NOW RUNS GOOD BUT IS THIS PART GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH A THROTTLE BAR ISSUE BY A FORD DEALER. WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR 30+ DAYS FOR A NEW THROTTLE BODY PART. FROM THE TIME OF THE FIRST INCIDENT IN APRIL, THE VEHICLE HAS STOPPED RUNNING WHILE DRIVING AND HAS BEEN HAVING ELECTRICAL ISSUES UPON START UP ABOUT A HALF DOZEN TIMES INCLUDING TODAY. RATHER THAN ENTER A COMPLAINT FOR EACH INCIDENT BECAUSE WE CAN NOT RECALL THE EXACT DATES, WE ARE SUBMITTING THIS COMPLAINT TO COVER ALL INCIDENTS. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE PART IS BACK ORDERED AND THERE IS NO ESTIMATED DATE OF DELIVERY. WE HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED A SURGE IN SPEED AS OF YET. IS THIS VEHICLE SAFE FOR US TO BE DRIVING? *TR
DRIVING VEHICLE AT APPX. 40 MPH WHEN ENGINE STARTED TO SPUTTER, LOST ALL POWER AND GOT NO RESPONSE FROM ACCELERATOR PEDAL. WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON DASHBOARD, INDICATING A "THROTTLE/POWERTRAIN" PROBLEM. HAD TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD, VERY DANGEROUSLY IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. TURNED CAR OFF, WAITED 15 MINUTES, RESTARTED AND THE CAR WORKED NORMALLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 100 YARDS, THEN THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED-- NO RESPONSE FROM ACCELERATOR, CAR WOULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 2-5 MPH, HAD TO COAST TO SIDE OF ROAD. *TR
THE THROTTLE BODY CONTROL DEVICE (PART # DS7Z-9E926-D) FAILED EFFECTIVELY DISCONNECTING MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL ON THE I-4 FREEWAY. I WAS TRAVELING AT 60 MPH I AM LUCKY TO BE ALIVE. THE PEOPLE AT FORD TOLD ME THIS IS A VERY HIGH FAILURE PART AND THEY CANNOT KEEP THEM IN STOCK. THEY INDICATED IN CONFIDENCE THAT "THEY WERE SURPRISED CUSTOMERS ARE NOT BEING TOLD OF THIS DEFECT". THIS PROBLEM PROBABLY KILLED SOMEONE SOMEWHERE AND I TRULY BELIEVE THIS IS A SERIOUS SITUATION THAT WILL KILL AN INNOCENT FAMILY SOON. BY THE WAY THEY WANTED $680.00 TO FIX THEIR PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY LOST ALL POWER WHILE DRIVING ON A MAJOR THOROUGHFARE, ALMOST RESULTING IN A REAR END COLLISION. VEHICLE HAS NOW DONE THAT THREE TIMES AND IS NOT BEING DRIVEN AS IT IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE UNTIL REPAIRED. FORD STATES THAT IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY BUT CANNOT OBTAIN THE REPLACEMENT PART FOR ONE TO TWO MONTHS, RENDERING VEHICLE UNUSABLE AND UNSAFE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000.
NOTED MILEAGE, DATE, AND SPEEDS APPROXIMATE. VEHICLE HAS STALLED SEVERAL TIMES (SIX TO SEVEN TIMES SINCE NOTED DATE). ALL TIMES HAVE BEEN WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP OR LOW SPEED. THE STALLS HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THEY OCCURRED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ENTER TRAFFIC. CHECK ENGINE / SERVICE LIGHT COMES ON, BUT DOES NOT STAY ON. VEHICLE RESTARTS AFTER SOME ATTEMPT AND THE CHECK ENGINE / SERVICE LIGHT IS GONE. THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND RESOLVED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! *TT
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR SEEMED TO STALL OUT EVEN THOUGH IT IS AN AUTOMATIC. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND IT SEEMED FINE. I CONTINUED DRIVING AND IT DID THE SAME THING. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE TOLD ME THAT IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 35-40 MPH WHEN MY CAR STALLED, BUT NOT SHUTTING OFF AND THE RPM FLUTTERING BETWEEN 1000-2000 RPM. MY ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO PRESS IT TO INCREASE RPM OR MPH. NEXT MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONE AND THE WRENCH SYMBOL AS WELL. I CALL MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP/SERVICE AND HE EXPLAINED IT TO BE THE ACCELERATOR THROTTLE BODY AND THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER FOR THIS PART. IF THIS IS THE CASE THERE SHOULD BE A NATIONAL RECALL FROM THE GOVERNMENT OR FORD ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN I LOST POWER TO ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH CAME ON AND THEN THE RED LOCK ICON CAME ON. IT SEEMED THAT MY CAR WENT DEAD. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF MY CAR. I HAD TO GET TO WORK SO I STARTED IT BACK UP AND DROVE IN THE SLOW LANE. I WAS VERY SCARED AS I WAS IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. *TR
MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN RUNNING GREAT UNTIL THE LAST WEEK. THREE TIMES IN THE SPAN OF AN HOUR DRIVE FROM ONE LOCATION TO MY HOUSE MY VEHICLE HAS BEGUN TO SHAKE AND THEN QUIT RUNNING. TWO OF THE THREE TIMES WE WERE DRIVING 65MPH ON A BUSY FREEWAY AND WERE UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE, HAVING TO ALLOW THE CAR TO IDLE TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER. THANKFULLY WE WERE ABLE TO DO SO SAFELY. WE DROVE THE VEHICLE TO OUR DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION TODAY AND THE CAR SHOOK, AS IF READY TO SHUT DOWN AGAIN, THE ENTIRE TRIP. I RECEIVED A CALL SAYING THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE SINCE SEEN SEVERAL SIMILAR SAFETY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE SAME ENGINE PART AND HAVE REQUESTED THE ORIGINAL PART BE RETURNED TO ME. MY VEHICLE IS ONLY THREE YEARS OLD AND IN GOOD CONDITION, AND IT IS ENTIRELY UNSAFE FOR A CAR TO UNEXPECTEDLY QUIT RUNNING, PERIOD. *TR
TRAVELING 55MPH ON A MAIN ROAD IN NC (RTE 13). WITH NO WARNING MY ENGINE LOSES ALL POWER. CAR IS STILL ON, BUT I CANNOT ACCELERATE. I HAVE TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN I COME TO A STOP THE CAR IS BUCKING. I HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF, WAIT A MINUTE THEN START IT AGAIN TO "CORRECT" THE BUCKING. THE ENGINE LIGHT AND A LIGHT IN SHAPE OF A WRENCH COME ON SIMULTANEOUSLY. I DRIVE A LITTLE BIT FURTHER AND THE SAME THING HAPPENS. I USE THE SAME PROCEDURE FIVE MORE TIMES TO GET IT TO THE AUTO SHOP, WHERE I'M TOLD I NEED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. MINE IS STICKING OPEN. 5,600 ARE ON BACK ORDER, SO I HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO GET VEHICLE REPAIRED. *TR
WHEN DRIVING, THE WRENCH LIGHT WOULD COME AND THE ENGINE WOULD STALL. THE GAS MEDAL GOES LIMP AND YOU CANT GIVE IT GAS. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND TURN IT OFF THAN BACK ON IT BEGAN TO WORK. IT HAS BEEN DOING IT FOR A WEEK AND THEN I GOT A DIAGNOSTIC AND CODE P2112 CAME UP. IT SAID THAT THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK CLOSED. *TR
DRIVING AT 60MPH MOTOR SHUT OFF NO LIGHTS NO SOUND , NO WARNING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ABOUT 55 MPH WHEN THE WRENCH DASHBOARD INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON. AT THE SAME TIME MY GAS PEDAL CEASES TO WORK AND CAR SPEED DECREASES. I HAVE TO COAST ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THANKFULLY BRAKES WORK. CAR IS STILL RUNNING. I TURN CAR OFF AND WAIT A MINUTE. TURN BACK ON. IT STARTS. LIGHT IS GONE AND CAR FEELS SHUDDERY BUT CONTINUES RUNNING. *TR
DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 60MPH, CRUISE DISENGAGED, STEPPED ON GAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE PULLED OVER AND SHUT VEHICLE DOWN RESTARTED AND PROCEEDED HOME. NEXT DAY WENT TO MY ESCAPE STARTED VEHICLE AND SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON THROUGHOUT THE DAY. CALLED MY FORD DEALER TO SET UP APPOINTMENT TO BRING IN THE CAR FOR INSPECTION. WAS GIVEN A APPOINTMENT IN 3 DAYS TIME (JULY 18,2013 @11:30AM) WAS TOLD BY SERVICE ADVISOR THAT IT WOULD BE OKAY AND SAFE TO KEEP DRIVING THE CAR. FOLLOWING DAY WENT TO A MEETING WITH MY CAR, SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. WHILE DRIVING HOME THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND ONCE AGAIN NO THROTTLE. DEALER SERVICE CALLED AND REPORTED THAT THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY REQUIRED REPLACEMENT, ASKED IF THIS WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ESCAPE AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES WITH THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY BUT NO RECALL TO DATE WAS TOLD TO KEEP THE PAID BILL ONCE THE WORK WAS COMPLETED IN CASE OF A RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT. *TR
ON JULY 14 2013, MY VEHICLE 2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING AT 60 MPH WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. AFTER THE STALL, THE VEHICLE DID NOT RESPOND TO GAS PEDAL. IT SLOWED DOWN. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE TO SAFETY LANE. DURING THE INCIDENT, THE WRENCH SIGN APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATOR. AFTER THE VEHICLE CAME TO COMPLETE STOP, I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER AT REDUCED SPEED OF 25 MPH. THEY DIAGNOSED THAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND MENTIONED THAT THE WHOLE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND LOST ACCELERATION POWER WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MOVE OFF THE ROADWAY HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC WHERE DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE THROTTLE BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,000.
ABOUT A MONTH AGO, WHILE MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN, MY CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING. AGAIN, 2 WEEKS LATER WHILE LEAVING WORK IT STOPPED ACCELERATING IN TRAFFIC ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT (THANKFULLY THE PERSON BEHIND ME SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES). I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND IT IMMEDIATELY DID THE SAME THING AGAIN. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FOUND THAT IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. I ALREADY HAD AN IDEA OF THIS ISSUE FROM MY OWN RESEARCH. APPARENTLY A LOT OF ESCAPE OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THIS CAN CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE PART IS ALSO ON BACK ORDER FOR 15 DAYS WHICH LEAVES ME WITHOUT A VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS FIXED. I ASSUME THAT SINCE THE THROTTLE BODY IS ON BACK ORDER THAT MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PART. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 50MPH AND NEXT THING I KNOW IS MY WHOLE CAR WAS SHAKING IT WAS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE AND I CHECKED THE DASH AND THE ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT IS ON. I TRIED TO STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL SO I CAN FIND A PLACE TO PULL OVER BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY POWER ON MY GAS PEDAL IT JUST WONT ACCELERATE. *TR

THE THROTTLE BODY WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,126.
VEHICLE APPEARS TO BE STALLING OUT AT RANDOM TIMES. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THERE IS NO POWER FROM THE GAS PEDAL AND NO RPM MOVEMENT. AN ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURS. MUST PULL OVER AND TURN ENGINE COMPLETELY OFF AND RESTART TO CORRECT. THE ENGINE SPUTTERS FOR SEVERAL SECONDS UPON RESTART BEFORE TURNING BACK ON. THIS PROCESS OFTEN HAS TO REPEATED MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THE COURSE OF A SINGLE TRIP. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL AUTO CARE SHOP ON 8/1/13 AND IT WAS DETERMINED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY IS MALFUNCTIONING. WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT THERE IS A NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THE PART FROM FORD AND IT COULD TAKE UP TO A MONTH TO GET THE PART IN. THE QUOTE FOR THE REPAIR WAS $420 (INCLUDING THE COST OF LABOR). UPON FURTHER RESEARCH OF THE ISSUE OVER THE INTERNET IT WAS DETERMINED THAT OVER 725,000 COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN FILED OVER THE SAME ISSUE ON THE FORD ESCAPES, YET NO RECALL HAS TAKEN EFFECT. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS, OUR NEWLY BOUGHT USED VEHICLE (A 2010 FORD ESCAPE WITH LESS THAN 60,000 MILES,) HAD STALLED ON MY PARTY WHILE DRIVING. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN DRIVE THE CAR LOSES THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. SOME OF THE TIMES ALL WE HAD TO DO WAS RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULD GET US BACK HOME. THE OCCURRENCES OF THE PROBLEM HAPPENED MORE FREQUENTLY WHEN DRIVING ON A FREEWAY OR HIGHWAY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH ON HIGHWAY, VEH LOST POWER, NO ACCELERATION,WRENCH SYMBOL AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, HAD TO COAST OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. TURNED KEY OFF AND LET SIT A COUPLE MINUTES, RESTARTED AND WAS OK, BUT INTERMITTENTLY PROBLEM RECURRED UNTIL UNABLE TO DRIVE MORE THAN A FEW MILES BETWEEN OCCURRENCES. DIAGNOSIS WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. REPLACED THROTTLE BODY AND NO PROBLEMS SINCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED EXCESSIVELY AS THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. ALSO, THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70MPH AND MY VEHICLE LURCHED, KNOCKED, AND THEN BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN NO MATTER HOW MUCH I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL. I MADE IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND ONCE COMPLETELY STOPPED, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED UNTIL PUT IN PARK. I TURNED MY VEHICLE OFF AND WAITED ABOUT 5 MINS AND THEN RESTARTED IT. EVERYTHING APPEARED TO BE FINE, SO I BEGAN TO DRIVE DOWN THE HIGHWAY AGAIN. WITHIN 2 MILES, THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED AGAIN. I MADE IT TO THE CLOSEST AUTO ZONE AND THEY DIAGNOSED MY VEHICLE WITH A TROUBLE CODE P2111, THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN. THEY SENT ME TO A LOCALLY OWNED BODY SHOP, WHERE THEY TOO, DIAGNOSED MY VEHICLE WITH THE TROUBLE CODE P2111. I MANAGED TO MAKE IT BACK HOME AND TAKE IT TO MY FORD SHOP, WHERE THEY CONFIRMED THE TROUBLE CODE OF P2111, SO THEY REPLACED MY THROTTLE BODY. UNFORTUNATELY, MY VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY, SO IT CAME OUT OF MY POCKET TO REPLACE THE PART. MY FORD HAD THE NERVE TO MENTION THIS HAS BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM THEY ARE SEEING, WHICH IS WHY THEY ALREADY HAD A THROTTLE BODY IN STOCK. THIS SHOULD BE SENT TO RECALL; IT IS DANGEROUS, AND HAS AFFECTED MANY PEOPLE FROM WHAT I'VE READ. *TR
I JUST FINISHED A RIGHT TURN AND ACCELERATED TO CONTINUE DOWN THE STREET WHEN MY VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE AND THEN SUDDENLY STALLED. THEN ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV UP/DOWN AS I TRIED TO GET MY VEHICLE TO MOVE OUT OF THE TRAFFIC LANE BUT IT WOULD NOT GO IN REVERSE OR DRIVE. WHEN I PUT MY VEHICLE IN PARK, THEN ENGINE CONTINUED TO REV UP/DOWN FOR ALMOST HALF AN HOUR BEFORE BEING SHUT OFF. *TR
MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER HAS HAD TWO OCCURRENCES OF THE VEHICLE LOSING ALL POWER WITHIN THE LAST TWO DAYS (7/10/2013 AND 7/11/2013). ONCE SHE WAS STARTING FROM A RED LIGHT AND THE OTHER SHE WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. BOTH TIMES SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND START THE CAR AND CONTINUE TRAVEL. *TR
WHILE ACCELERATING SLOWLY FROM A STOP, THE CAR WENT ABOUT 30 FEET AND THEN STALLED. AFTER PULLING OVER, AND RESTARTING THE CAR, I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION WITHOUT INCIDENT, ABOUT 8 MILES. 2 DAYS LATER, THE SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT. ON FIVE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WITHIN THE SPAN OF A DAY, THE CAR, WHILE MOVING, STUTTERED AND STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR AGAIN, BUT IT WOULD STALL SOON THEREAFTER. IT ALMOST FELT LIKE THE CAR WAS "CHOKING" AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT FULLY TURN OFF. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED IT WAS A DEFECTIVE "THROTTLE BODY" AND THAT FORD HAD BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS PART. IT WAS NOT IN RECALL YET. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE TO FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT. THEY PAID FOR THE THROTTLE BODY PART, HOWEVER, I WAS CHARGED OVER $300.00 TO REPLACE THE PART. I AM ONLY 5,000- 6,000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY ON THE CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE BECAME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS OVER 10 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 54,000. PULLED INTO TRAFFIC ON A BUSY 4 LANE FREEWAY AND AS I REACHED 50 MPH AND ALL THROTTLE CONTROL DISAPPEARED AND CAR WAS ONLY STEERABLE BUT NO ACCELERATION AS I TRIED TO WORK THE CAR OFF TO THE SIDE CREATING A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING ROUGHLY BUT WITH NO GAS PETAL RESPONSE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, RE-TRIED STARTING AND THEN NO SIGNS OF PROBLEMS, TOOK TO DEALER AND FOUND FAULTY THROTTLE BODY, A NATIONAL BACK ORDER FROM FORD INDICATING THAT THIS IS HAPPENING ALL OVER THE COUNTRY, AND WILL NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY, FAR SHORT OF WHAT WOULD BE EXPECTED OF A THROTTLE BODY, AND CREATING A DANGEROUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR SLOWED AND BECAME SLUGGISH. TOOK THE CAR RIGHT TO THE FORD DEALER. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY. I HAD JUST HAD A 30,000 MILE CHECKUP 2 MONTHS BEFORE AND THE THROTTLE BODY WAS SERVICED AND NOW 3,000 MILES LATER I NEED TO HAVE IT REPLACED... IF I HAD BEEN ON THE THRUWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BEING AT HIGH SPEED THEN LOSING POWER. I WAS LUCKY. *TR
ON JULY 9, 2013 I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY IN MODERATE TRAFFIC AT MID-DAY AND HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY, AND WITHOUT WARNING, WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE BUT WAS STILL MOVING AT A REDUCED SPEED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL STEERING. I WORKED MY WAY OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION. I SAT FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE AND RE-STARTED THE VEHICLE WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM. ON JULY 18, 2013 AT ABOUT 8:30 AM I HAD BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 MINUTES HAD JUST EXITED THE FREEWAY APPROXIMATELY A QUARTER MILE BACK AND WAS WAITING AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE. THERE WAS NO REVVING OF THE ENGINE IT WAS SILENT. I TURNED THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION, WAITED A MOMENT, TURNED IT BACK ON WITHOUT A PROBLEM. *TR
THE PROBLEM STARTED ON JULY 09, 2013. MY WIFE WAS DROPPING OUR KIDS OFF AT DAYCARE AND A SUMMER PROGRAM WHEN THE CAR JUST LOST ALL POWER COULDN'T ACCELERATE OR ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE COULD JUST COAST. WE HAVE NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE VEHICLE BEFORE, SO I TOLD HER TO TRY AND SHUT DOWN THE VEHICLE TO RESTART IT. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS AND IT WORKED FINE. THEN AFTER DROPPING THE KIDS OFF IT HAPPENED TO MORE TIMES TO HER ON HER WAY TO WORK. AFTER I GOT OFF OF WORK, I PICKED UP THE VEHICLE AND DROVE IT AROUND NON-BUSY ROADWAYS TO SEE IF IT COULD HAPPEN TO ME, AND IT DID. I IMMEDIATELY DROPPED IT OFF AT A SERVICE CENTER CLOSE BY. I AM EXTREMELY CONCERNED ABOUT THESE INCIDENTS AFTER LOOKING ONLINE AND FINDING OUT THAT THIS IS NOT A RANDOM INCIDENT. IT IS HAPPENING TO MANY PEOPLE. SOMETHING IN THE THROTTLE BODY GOES BAD CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO SOMETHING THAT PEOPLE ARE CALLING "LIMP MODE". MY WIFE WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS WITH VEHICLES BEHIND HER AND MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THIS SITUATION COULD HAVE BEEN DEVASTATING AND I AM GLAD THAT IT WASN'T. I DO NOT WANT IT TO BE DEVASTATING FOR ANYONE ELSE EITHER THOUGH. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT CLOSELY. AFTER TALKING TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT OF A FORD DEALER, IT SEEMS THAT FORD HAS RECOGNIZED THE PROBLEM BY CHANGING THE PART. THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT ONLY HELPS IF YOU CHANGE THE PART. I BELIEVE THAT FORD SHOULD BE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS TO ENSURE NOBODY IS INJURED BADLY OR WORSE. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE. SUDDENLY, THE ENGINE SHUDDERED, HESITATED, AND LOST POWER. LUCKILY, TRAFFIC WAS LIGHT AND I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD. ALL FLUIDS OK, BATTERY OK, FUEL OK, ETC. AFTER CHECKING OPTIONS, I TRIED RESTARTING THE CAR. IT STARTED FINE -LIKE THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING MORE OFTEN, BUT NOT ON AT ANY PREDICTABLE TIME OR EVENT. ENGINE COOL OR HOT, SLOW OR HIGH SPEED, SMOOTH OR BUMPY ROAD -JUST WHENEVER IT SEEMS TO FEEL LIKE IT. I'VE BEEN READING ONLINE THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY ON THESE VEHICLES. I'M NOW LOOKING FOR A REPLACEMENT AND AM WONDERING HOW MUCH THIS IS GOING TO COST. AFTER SITTING WITH MY CAR RUNNING IN A PARKED POSITION FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MINUTE, I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE. I DROVE FOR AN ESTIMATED 30 SECONDS. THEN I STOPPED TO CHECK FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC BEFORE PULLING OUT INTO AN INTERSECTION. WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN ONTO THAT MAJOR ROAD, THE YELLOW/ORANGE "WRENCH" SIGN IMMEDIATELY POPPED UP. SIMULTANEOUSLY, MY CAR BEGAN TO RUMBLE AND SHAKE. IN ADDITION, DESPITE PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL, MY CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD, WHICH WAS DIFFICULT TO DO SINCE MY CAR WAS STRUGGLING TO MOVE. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET THE CAR TO RESTART. IT STRUGGLED AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT, BUT AFTER APPROXIMATELY TEN SECONDS, IT STARTED UP. NOW, IN ADDITION TO THE "WRENCH" LIGHT, MY ESCAPE ALSO HAD THE CHECK ENGINE SYMBOL LIT UP. EVEN THOUGH I WAS SITTING ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITH MY CAR RUNNING IN THE PARKED POSITION, MY CAR WAS STILL RUMBLING AND SHAKING. INTERESTING TO NOTE, I WAS ACTUALLY ON THE WAY HOME FROM THE FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE I HAD JUST HAD MY CAR SERVICED FOR A SEEMINGLY UNRELATED PROBLEM. THE DAY BEFORE THE THROTTLE WENT, MY BACK PASSENGER TIRE BECAME STUCK IN A LOCKED POSITION, AND I WAS UNABLE TO DRIVE. I HAD TO PUMP MY BRAKES, AND PUT MY EMERGENCY BRAKE (WHICH HAD NOT BEEN ENGAGED) ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES TO UNLOCK THE BACK PASSENGER TIRE. FORD DETERMINED THIS INCIDENT WAS DUE TO WATER GETTING ON THE BRAKE SHOE WHICH MADE IT STICK TO THE BRAKE DRUM. THEY CLEANED, READJUSTED AND LUBRICATED MY REAR BRAKES (DRUMS, SHOES, ETC) AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. MY THROTTLE WENT WHILE I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT FORD WHERE THEY HAD JUST FIXED MY BRAKE ISSUE. I HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO FORD SINCE MY CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO RUN. *TR

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL WEEKS LATER WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF T HE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,783.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FOR ESCAPE AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. AS SHE WAS SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT, IT TURNED GREEN. HOWEVER, AS SHE TRIED TO PRESS ON THE GAS TO CONTINUE ACCELERATING, THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO RPMS. AND, AS SHE PRESSED ON THE GAS, THE CAR MADE A CONSTANT LUNGING MOTION. WE SWITCHED POSITIONS, AND I WAS ABLE TO BABYSTEP MY WAY TO AN EMPTY PARKING LOT TO WAIT FOR THE TOW TRUCK TO TAKE IT TO THE SHOP FOR REPAIR. NOT EVEN TALKING TO THEM ABOUT THE ISSUE, I SEE NOW THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN 2009 AND 2010 FOR ESCAPES. THERE ARE PAGES AND PAGES OF THE SAME COMPLAINT OUT THERE ONLINE. WITH 6000 OF THESE ON A NATIONAL BACK ORDER, THIS ABSOLUTELY SHOULD MAKE THE NATIONAL RECALL LIST!!! *TR

I WAS EXITING THE MAIN HIGHWAY AND ON A LONG OFF RAMP WHEN I EXPERIENCED THE CAR NOT ALLOWING ANY ACCELERATION WHATSOEVER. FORTUNATELY, THERE WERE NO CARS AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER ON THE SHOULDER. I TURNED OFF THE CAR TO MAKE A PHONE CALL. THE LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WAS ON. WHEN I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AGAIN - I WAS ABLE TO RESUME ACCELERATING. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK THE CAR INTO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. *JS
I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE AT ABOUT 65 MILES PER HOUR ON THE NEW JERSEY TURNPIKE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER IN THE ENGINE. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF A 4 LANE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO GET OVER TO THE SHOULDER. THE ENGINE NEVER SHUT OFF BUT WOULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. I SHUT THE ENGINE DOWN AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I HAD 70 MILES TO GO SO I DECIDED TO TRY TO DRIVE ON AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE FOR 40 MILES WHEN IT DID IT AGAIN. I GOT OVER TO THE SHOULDER, SHUT THE ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY DESTINATION. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED ON THURSDAY. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE FAMILIAR WITH THIS ISSUE AND THAT THE THROTTLE CONTROL NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF POSTS FROM OWNERS THAT ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHAT GIVES. IF FORD KNOW ABOUT THIS, SHOULDN'T THEY TAKE CARE OF IT! *TR
DRIVING ON 2 LANE HWY IN 55MPH ZONE IN PASSING LANE AND CAME UP TO RED LIGHT. WHEN LIGHT CHANGED, STEPPED ON GAS PEDAL AND HAD NO ACCELERATION. VEHICLE HAD ONLY AN IDLING, SURGING ROUGH MOTION THAT ALLOWED IT TO SLOWLY MOVE ONTO THE GRASS MEDIAN. CAUSED SEVERAL CARS TO BACK UP BEFORE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF TRAFFIC. RESTARTED VEHICLE AND ENGINE RAN A ROUGH IDLE W/ THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS ON. IRONIC, THAT ANOTHER FORD ESCAPE OWNER STOPPED TO HELP AND TOLD ME HIS 2009 HAD JUST HAD SAME SYMPTOMS THE WEEK BEFORE AND HE TOLD ME HIS WAS THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS OVER $500 TO REPAIR. DIAGNOSIS AT FORD WAS CODE P2112 (THROTTLE STUCK CLOSED). SOLUTION WAS TO REPLACE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. SEEMS TO BE A FAMILIAR ISSUE W/ FORD DEALER AS THEY HAD JUST GOTTEN PARTS THIS WEEK AFTER BEING BACK ORDERED LAST WEEK. QUESTIONED CUSTOMER SERVICE REP TO SEE IF NEW PART WAS SAME MANUFACTURER AS OLD PART. HE INFORMED ME THAT NEW PART WAS FROM A NEW MANUFACTURER. SEEMS LIKE ANOTHER SITUATION OF LOWEST COST VENDOR SYNDROME AND FORD SHOULD HAVE TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PROCUREMENT/ENGINEERING DECISIONS. JUST THANKFUL THAT I DID NOT GET REAR-ENDED WHILE STUCK IN THE PASSING LANE IN A 55MPH ZONE. *TR
DEFECTIVE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY CAUSED CAR TO STOP ON A STATE HIGHWAY. CONVERSATION WITH FORD DEALER AND RESEARCH ON INTERNET REVEALED THAT FORD AND NHTSA KNOW ABOUT THIS DEFECT. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ITEM. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,600.
