WHILE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY FROM AN INCLINED ON-RAMP, ACCELERATION BEGAN TO DECREASE EVEN AS THE GAS PEDAL WAS BEING PRESSED. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER, STOP THE ENGINE AND RESTART. THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO HAVE RETURNED TO NORMAL FUNCTION. AFTER TRAVELING ABOUT 25 MILES ON THE HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOSE ACCELERATION AS I TRIED TO INCREASE SPEED TO CHANGE LANES. THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED TO THE FLOOR OF THE CAR WITH NO RESULTS. AS I PRESSED THE PEDAL THE MAINTENANCE LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP ON THE DASHBOARD. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO AN EXIT RAMP AND COASTED TO A SAFE STOP. THERE WAS NO PREVIOUS WARNING FROM THE DASHBOARD INDICATORS THAT THERE WAS TROUBLE. I WAS NOTIFIED BY THE DEALERSHIP, THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY HAD FAILED. *TR
WHEN DRIVING I LOSS ALL ACCELERATION. THE ACCELERATION PEDAL HAS NO EFFECT WHILE DEPRESSING. A RED WRENCH ICON ILLUMINATES ON THE FAR LEFT END OF THE DISPLAY CONSOLE. ONCE IN AWHILE THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE OWNERS MANUAL ICON DESCRIPTION READS "THROTTLE CONTROL/POWER TRAIN. THIS OCCURS UNEXPECTEDLY ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I ACTIVATE THE HAZARD LIGHTS AND PULL OVER TO THE ROADSIDE. THE SUV WILL SHAKE, BUT WILL NOT SHUTOFF. I WILL SHUTOFF THE SUV AND THEN WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM RESTARTING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING WITH MY 7 WEEK OLD SON AND 3 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER. I PULLED UP TO A RED LIGHT AND STOPPED. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN I PRESSED THE GAS TO GO. MY VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD INTO THE INTERSECTION AND THEN ONLY SLOWLY MOVED. THERE WAS POWER TO THE CAR, LIGHTS, MUSIC, AND AIR WERE WORKING BUT MY CAR WAS ONLY SLOWLY MOVING AND SHAKING. IT WAS AS IF NO GAS WAS GETTING TO THE ENGINE. I HAD TO PULL OVER ONTO THE RIGHT LANE, BECAUSE THE ROAD HAD NO SHOULDER. THE SOUND AND FEELING THE CAR WAS MAKING MADE ME FEEL LIKE I NEEDED TO DRIVE WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE GAS AT THE SAME TIME. THERE WAS NO WARNING SIGNS THAT THERE WAS ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY CAR, IT JUST ALL OF A SUDDEN STOPPED. IT WAS THE WORST FEELING EVER BEING STUCK ON A BUSY ROAD WITH NO SHOULDER TO PULL OVER ONTO AND HAVING MY 2 BABIES IN THE CAR WITH ME, AS CARS COME DRIVING UP AND HAVING TO SWITCH LANES OR SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES TO AVOID ME. *TR
I WAS GOING AROUND A BEND TO ENTER A HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR "STUTTERED" AND STOPPED RUNNING. I SAW THE POWERTRAIN LIGHT COME ON BEFORE IT STOPPED. I PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND SAT THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES. I WAS AFRAID OF SOMEBODY COMING AROUND THE BEND BEHIND ME AND NOT REALIZING I AM STUCK. I TRIED TO RESTART IT AND IT FORTUNATELY IT DID. THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT THE CAR WAS JUST GOING TO ABRUPTLY COME TO A STOP. I WAS LUCKY TO NOT BE ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME BUT THE NEXT DAY IT DIDN'T START AT ALL. I BROUGHT IT TO MY FORD DEALER WHO TOLD ME IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH A THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THEY HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THEM. *TR
THE ESCAPE ENGINE STOPPED PROVIDING POWER AND THE ACCELERATOR STOPPED RESPONDING. THE CAR ENGINE WENT TO IDLE. AFTER PULLING OVER SHUTTING CAR OFF THEN ON AGAIN THE ENGINE BEGAN RESPONDING. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 10 TIMES BEFORE GETTING THE CAR TO A SERVICE DEALER. THE PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THESE PARTS ARE ON A 10 DAY BACK-ORDER DUE TO SO MANY VEHICLES HAVING THE SAME FAILURE AND PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO SURGE IN DEMAND. *TR
I WAS DRIVING 55MPH AND THE ESCAPE SUDDENLY LOST POWER, DECELERATING AND COMING TO A STOP. THE POWERTRAIN LIGHT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE HAD A DIFFICULT TIME TURNING OVER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALERSHIP WHERE NOTHING WAS FOUND. THE INCIDENT THEN OCCURRED AGAIN A WEEK LATER AT THE SAME SPEED. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL PRESSURE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY START IN NEUTRAL AND THEN IT WAS TAKEN TO THE STOP. THIS TIME IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
JULY 5, 2013 I WAS DRIVING HFROM ST SIMONS ISLAND, GA TO FLORENCE, SC. I WAS ON A CONNECTOR BRIDGE WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER BUT THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING. I STEERED THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, PARKED IT, AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE SINCE I COULD NOT GET THE VEHICLE TO MOVE. WHEN I STARTED THE ENGINE AGAIN, IT STARTED UP, AND I HAD POWER SO I DROVE FOR ABOUT A MILE, AND A REPEAT OCCURRENCE HAPPENED. AGAIN, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND ON RESTART WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE MOVING. I FOUND A MEINEKE REPAIR SHOP IN BRUNSWICK, GA AND PULLED IN THERE. THEY CHECKED THE VEHICLE OUT BUT COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG (NO DASH LIGHTS APPEARED). SO I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO FLORENCE WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. A SHORT TIME LATER, ON JULY 27, 2013, I WAS ONCE AGAIN IN ST SIMONS ISLAND AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING. I HAD TO STEER THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, THEN STARTED IT UP AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE ISLAND AUTO REPAIR SHOP (THIS TIME THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS ON. THEY CLEANED THE PART, SAID IT SHOULD WORK FINE, USE FUEL INJECTOR CLEANER, AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. ON AUGUST 19, IN FLORENCE, SC, THE SAME THING OCCURRED AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO MOVE AT ALL, EVEN THOUGH THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING. I HAD TO CALL AAA, WHO HAD IT TOWED TO MILLERS FOREIGN AUTO REPAIR SHOP, WHERE IT STILL SITS WAITING ON A NEW PART. THEY HAVE TOLD ME IT'S THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY W/ WIRING HARNESS AND SENSOR THAT FAILED, AND I AM WAITING ON THE PART FOR SO LONG BECAUSE SO MANY OF THESE HAVE FAILED. I AM ONE OF THOUSANDS WHOSE VEHICLE IS AFFECTED BY THIS FLAWED TECHNOLOGY. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION FOR CONSUMERS TO HAVE TO PUT UP WITH, AS FORD IS NOT GOING TO VOLUNTARILY CORRECT THIS ISSUE. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL BEFORE THIS FLAWED TECHNOLOGY KILLS SOMEONE. THANK YOU. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A TWO LANE ROAD DOING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH MY VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT LOST ACCELERATION POWER. WE HAD TO COAST UNTIL WE FOUND A PLACE ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO MOVE TO. *TR

ON JULY 4, 2013 I WAS DRIVING MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE ON I-235 SOUTH IN OKLAHOMA CITY AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH WHEN THE FORWARD MOMENTUM OF THE VEHICLE DROPPED OUT AND IT BEGAN TO DECELERATE. I ATTEMPTED TO CONTINUE FORWARD MOMENTUM BY APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR BUT WITH NO RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE. I COASTED THE VEHICLE ACROSS LANES OF TRAFFIC TO THE SHOULDER OF THE HIGHWAY. ONCE STOPPED I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THE ENGINE WAS SPUTTERING AND LOSING RPMS. I IDENTIFIED THE POWER TRAIN (WRENCH LIGHT) ON CONTROL CONSOLE WAS LITE AT WHICH I OBSERVED THE VEHICLE. I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR TO INCREASE RPMS AT WHICH NO SUCCESS WAS NOTED AT THAT POINT I CUT THE POWER TO THE VEHICLE. I ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO SIT FOR 5 MINUTES AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE WITH SOME SPUTTERING. AT THAT POINT I APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR AND IMMEDIATELY THE RPMS INCREASED AND THE VEHICLE RETURNED TO OPERATING NORMALLY. SIMILAR ACTION REPEATED ON AUG. 13, 2013 X 4 TIMES ON THE SAME HIGHWAY: ONCE DURING MORNING TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH AND THEN THREE TIMES DURING EVENING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC TRAVELING 20-40 MPH. PROBLEM WAS IDENTIFIED AS MALFUNCTIONING THROTTLE BODY BY FORD DEALERSHIP MECHANIC. FAILURE ACTED DURING HIGH TRAFFIC SITUATIONS WHICH COULD LEAD TO A POTENTIAL ACCIDENT OR INJURY TO OPERATOR AND SURROUNDING MOTORISTS. UPON FURTHER RESEARCH IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THAT THERE ARE MULTIPLE FAILURES OF THROTTLE BODIES IN 2010 FORD ESCAPES WHICH HAD TO BE REPLACED AT THE OWNER'S COST AND FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECTIVE COMPONENT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON I35 E IN LEWISVILLE, TX WHEN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STOPPED ACCELERATING, I HAD BEEN TRAVELING AT APPROX 40 MPH IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. THE VEHICLE/ENGINE WAS STILL ON BUT I COULD NOT CONTINUE FORWARD. I EXITED THE HIGHWAY AND GLIDED INTO A PARKING LOT ( AFTER NEARLING BEING KILLED BY A LARGE TRUCK ON THE SERVICE ROAD) THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS THE ENGINE LIGHT. I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPACE AND THE VEHICLE STARTED TO VIOLENTLY SHAKE. I PUT IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND STARTED THE VEHICLE WITH NO ISSUES. THE VEHICLE IDLED FINE AND I COULD REV UP THE ENGINE. I DROVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT WITH NO ISSUES HOWEVER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I TRIED GOING ONTO A RESIDENTIAL STREET AND WHEN I ACCELERATED ABOVE 20MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE AND HAD TO PULL OVER AND HAD THE SAME BEFORE MENTIONED RESULTS. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED. I CALLED A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND I WAS ADVISED IT WAS MOST LIKELY AN ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY ISSUE AND THEY HAVE THEM COME IN ALL THE TIME. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED IMMEDIATELY AS THIS VERY WELL COULD HAVE CAUSE A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
I CURRENTLY HAVE A 2010 FORD ESCAPE WITH 47,000 MILES ON IT . ON WEDNESDAY JULY 3 2013 I WAS RETURNING HOME FROM DOING ERRANDS, AND MY FORD ESCAPE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH INFORMING ME THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. FORTUNATELY, I HAD JUST TURNED INTO THE LANE TO MY HOUSE AND WAS NOT ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALER WHO INFORMED US THAT IT IS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. WE CONTACTED FORD CORPORATION AND REPORTED THE ISSUE, THEY SAID THAT THIS IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE HAS BEEN NO ISSUES WITH THIS PART IN THE PAST. FORD GAVE US A CASE NUMBER AND SAID THAT IT WOULD TAKE UP TO FOUR DAYS TO DETERMINE IF THEY WILL COVER THE REPAIR. I HAD MY SEVEN YEAR OLD GRANDSON WITH ME THAT DAY, AND ALL I KEEP THINKING ABOUT IS WHAT IF THAT WOULD HAVE HAPPEN ON A BUSY HIGHWAY WITH CARS GOING THE SPEED OF 55MPH AND HIGHER. *TR
WAS DRIVING ON THE 101 IN PHOENIX ARIZONA AND THE CAR STARTED JERKING. LUCKILY I WAS CLOSE TO AN EXIT SO I GOT OFF. I TURNED OFF THE CAR, RESTARTED IT, AND STARTED TO DRIVE. I DROVE ABOUT 100 FEET AND IT STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND DRIVE IT A HALF MILE TO A GAS STATION. HOWEVER, THE CAR WAS JERKING THE WHOLE TIME. THE OFFICIAL WORD WAS THAT THE THROTTLE WAS THE ISSUE. *TR
TRAVELING APPROX 25MPH VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO GAS PEDAL. CAR COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD (NO SHOULDER ON BLIND CURVE). CAR BEGAN TO BUCK AND JERK. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON.TURNED OFF IGNITION, WAITED APPROX 30 SECONDS AND RESTARTED CAR. NO FURTHER ISSUE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SCARED TO DRIVE. *TR
GETTING ONTO THE EXPRESSWAY AT ABOUT 55MPH WHEN THE CARS ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SHORTLY AFTER THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON THE CAR THUDDED FORWARD AND LOST POWER. VERY SCARY, EASILY COULD HAVE CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. WE WERE ABLE TO START THE CAR IMMEDIATELY AFTER AND START GOING BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T MAKE IT A MILE BEFORE LOSING POWER AGAIN. NEXT DAY TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO FIND THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND IT MAY BE WEEKS BEFORE THE DEALER CAN GET IT IN. A COUPLE WEEKS AND $525 LATER WE ARE NOT HAPPY CAMPERS. THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
DRIVING SOUTH ON HIGHWAY AT 60 MILES PER HOUR I HEARD ENGINE NOISE AND CAR SLOWED DOWN TO A STOP I STARTED IT AGAIN ABOUT 50 FEET IT DID SAME AGAIN I TOOK IT TO WHERE I BOUGHT IT AND THEY SAID THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS ON BACKORDER AND WOULD BE 10 DAYS TO GET PART NEVER SAID A WORD TO ME ABOUT THIS BEING A PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE I WAS DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND MY CAR JUST SLOWS TO A STOP. *TR
I WAS AT A RED LIGHT AND I WENT TO EXCEL FORWARD, I GOT TO ABOUT 5 OR 10 MPH THE CAR JERKED FORWARD THEN STOPPED GETTING GAS. I PUSHED THE PEDAL AND IT JUST KEPT JERKING. IT WAS POURING RAIN OUT AND I WAS NOT NEAR A SHOULDER TO PULL OVER. I HAD TO PUT MY HAZARDS ON AND CALL A TOW TRUCK. IT WAS HORRIFYING, CARS WERE WHIZZING BY AND I HAD MY 6 MONTH OLD SON IN THE CAR WITH ME, I WAS TREMBLING. ONCE IT WAS TOWED TO THE FORD STORE THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS MY THROTTLE BODY. NOT ONLY DID I HAVE TO PAY 100 BUCKS TO GET TOWED, AND 100 BUCKS TO MY EXTENDED WARRANTY PROGRAM AS THE DEDUCTIBLE, BUT I AM ALSO OUT OF A CAR FOR A MINIMUM OF 2 WEEKS. I STARTED DOING A LITTLE RESEARCH ONLY TO FIND OUT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. I AM LIVID THAT FORD HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL FOR A PROBLEM THAT COULD POTENTIALLY BE FATAL AND THAT BY THIS POINT THEY HAVE TO BE AWARE OF. I SEE NOT REASON I SHOULD HAVE TO COME OUT OF POCKET FOR A PROBLEM THE MANUFACTURER CAUSED. NOT TO MENTION MY HUSBAND IS IN THE MILITARY AND WE RECENTLY RECEIVED ORDERS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, WHAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED DURING THAT CROSS COUNTRY DRIVE? AT THIS POINT MY CAR IS STILL IN THE SHOP, AND I AM LOOKING TO POSSIBLY JUST TRADE IT IN, I AM SCARED TO PIECES TO EVEN DRIVE IT AGAIN FOR FEAR THIS ISSUE WILL REOCCUR. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. *TR
WHILE AT STOP LIGHT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TAKE OFF NOTHING HAPPENED AS GAS PRESSED. VEHICLE STALLED RESTART AND DROVE FINE. MADE SERVICE APPOINTMENT HAD TO WAIT 6 DAYS. MEANTIME THE RPM FLUCTUATED AT IDLE AND ACTED AS IF WANTED TO STALL. I WAS AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. WENT IN FOR SERVICE TOLD IT WAS THE MASS AIR FLOW VALVE SENSOR. WE CLEANED, CAR RAN FINE FOR A WEEK THEN WE STALLED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON I-75. REPLACED THE MAF SENSOR BUT NO CHANGE TO THE RMPS. TOOK CAR BACK TO DEALER THEY STATED IT COULD BE ABS RELATED KEPT THE CAR OVERNIGHT TO CALL AND TELL ME THEY COULD NOT FIND A TROUBLE BUT THEY SUSPECT IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL BUT COULD NOT BACK THAT IN WRITING. I DROVE THE CAR HOME (LESS THAN 10 MILES) RAN IN HOUSE GET SOMETHING AND THE CAR STALLED IN DRIVEWAY. RESTARTED STALLED THREE MORE TIMES. HOW CAN I BE TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND THREE MECHANICS DROVE IT ON THREE DIFFERENT DRIVES AND I GET IN THE CAR AND IT OCCURS IMMEDIATELY. I FEEL LIED TO AND DON'T THINK I WILL EVER BE COMFORTABLE DRIVING A FORD CAR. THIS WAS MY FIRST AND IT WILL BE MY LAST. FORD DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND THEIR CUSTOMER CARE IN POOR. IT HAS BEEN 11 DAYS AND THE CAR IS UNRELIABLE AND I DON'T FEEL I CAN TRUST THE FORD DEALERSHIP. *TR

JULY 2, 2013, I JUST PULLED OUT OF MY GARAGE, CAME TO A STOP SIGN, MADE A COMPLETE STOP, PROCEEDED TO GO FORWARD, HAD MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, RPM GAUGE STARTED GOING UP AND DOWN, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SLOW DOWN EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THE VEHICLE JUST STOPPED AND THEN STARTED TO SHAKE, I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE AGAIN AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, THEY FIRST TOLD ME THAT THE COMPUTER CHIP NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. AUGUST 2, 2013, I WAS DRIVING FOR ABOUT 30 MINUTES GOING AT 55 MPH, THE RPM GAUGE STARTED GOING UP AND DOWN, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I COULD FEEL THE VEHICLE LOSE POWER EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE WENT FROM 55 MPH TO 20MPH WITHIN A MINUTE, I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AS THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. CALL THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND DROPPED MY VEHICLE OFF FOR INSPECTION AGAIN, THEY CALLED ME AND TOLD ME THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY VALVE THAT STICKS AND THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE FORD DEALERSHIP IS UNABLE TO GET THE PART BECAUSE ITS ON BACK ORDER, I HAVE TO WAIT 2 TO 3 MONTHS FOR THIS PART. AUGUST 9, 2013, I WAS AT A STOP SIGN, I PROCEEDED TO GO FORWARD WHILE PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND I AGAIN WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, I PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE, WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND IT STARTED AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,000.
WHILE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR THE CAR SHUTS OFF AND COMES TO A SLOW STOP. YOUR ARE NOT ABLE TO ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON FIRST. I STOP THE CAR, TURN IT OFF, WAIT ABOUT 10SEC AND TURN THE CAR BACK ON. IT STARTS FINE. I TRAVEL ABOUT 6 MILES AND THE CAR STOPS AGAIN, THIS TIME JERKING BACK AND FORTH A LITTLE AND THEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. I STOP THE CAR AND FOLLOW THE SAME STEPS ON TURNING IT BACK ON. I AM STILL ABLE TO BREAK AND STEER OFF OF ROADS. HOWEVER, NOT WITH MUCH TIME BEFORE IT COMPLETELY STOPS. I TOOK IT TO ADVANCED AUTO PARTS AND GOT THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSED. THE CODE WAS P2112/THROTTLE ACTUATOR PER THE REPRESENTATIVE. THIS IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS WHEN TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY OR ANY BUSY ROADWAY DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC EVERYDAY TO AND FROM WORK. *TR
ACCELERATED TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC AND MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE STARTED TO ACT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL. EVER TIME I TRIED TO ACCELERATE IT FELT LIKE IT WAS "CHOKING" AND WANTED TO STALL. I HAD TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND PRESS ON THE GAS TO KEEP IT FROM STALLING. IN ADDITION TO THE FACT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED I AM NOW BEING TOLD THERE IS A NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER ON THE PART AND I WILL NOT GET THE REPAIR COMPLETED FOR 2-3 WEEKS. I AM 1-1/2 MONTHS PASSED WARRANTY WITH ONLY 26,000 MILES AND NEITHER FORD NOR THE DEALERSHIP WILL LOAN ME A VEHICLE WHILE MY CAR SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP NOR WILL THIS EVEN BE CONSIDERED WARRANTY WORK. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY GOING IN A STEADY 55 MILES PER HOUR. I WANTED TO INCREASE THE SPEED BUT NO GAIN IN SPEED. PRESSING THE ACCELERATION PADDLE SPEED IS STILL DROPPING FAST. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY WARNING BEFORE THAT , THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING SO WRONG WITH MY CAR. I WISH IT WOULD HAVE GIVEN ME SOME WARNING AHEAD OF TIME. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BEGAN SPUTTERING AND THEN WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND WOULD BARELY MOVE WHEN PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL. IT WAS DIAGNOSED INITIALLY AS THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR STUCK OPEN. IT WAS CLEANED. I DROVE IT AND LESS THAN 24 HOURS LATER IT LOST ACCELERATION ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AT A TRAVELING SPEED OF 65 MPH. I HAD TO PULL OVER 3 TIMES AND RESTART IT TO GET IT TO A CAR REPAIR PLACE. I ENDED UP HAVING TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR MOTOR. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE WAS P2111. I ASKED FOR THE OLD PART AND IT DID NOT LOOK WORN OR DAMAGED. THE REPEATED LOSS OF ACCELERATION ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR CREATED A GREAT RISK TO MY SAFETY AND THOSE OF THE OTHER MOTORISTS AROUND ME. THE SERVICE MAN AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THEY WERE SEEING A NUMBER OF SIMILAR SITUATIONS INVOLVING THIS PART WITH FORD ESCAPES. THE TOTAL COST FOR BOTH SERVICE VISIT WAS $465.00. *TR
AT 45MPH THE VEHICLE LOST COMPLETE THROTTLE AND WENT INTO LOW IDLE. (NO GAS PEDAL) LUCKILY THE FIRST TIME I WAS ABLE TO PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND TURN IT OFF AND START IT BACK UP AND IT RESET ITSELF. I MADE A LEFT TURN FROM A STOP LIGHT AND THE CAR SEEMED TO BE ACCELERATING AND SHIFTING BUT SUDDENLY JUST STARTED "CHUGGING" AND BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO STEER, ALMOST AS IF THE BRAKE WERE ON. I GOT AS CLOSE TO THE EDGE OF THE ROAD AS I COULD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. I LOOKED UP THE SYMBOL (WRENCH) IN THE MANUAL AND IT SAID "POWERTRAIN FAULT" CALL YOUR AUTHORIZED DEALER. IT WAS TERRIFYING BEING STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET IN THE DARK! I HAD MY HAZARD FLASHERS ON AND WHEN I CALLED MY SON HE ASKED IF I COULD START THE CAR AND GET OFF THE STREET. IT DID START UP AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE IT ABOUT A 100 FEET BEFORE IT STARTED "CHOKING UP" AGAIN. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES AND DID THAT AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO GET IT INTO A PARKING LOT AND OFF THE STREET. MY CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND WHEN I CALLED THEM THE NEXT DAY THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND IT MAY BE A COUPLE OF WEEKS. MY WARRANTY EXPIRED IN MAY AT THE THREE YEAR POINT. FORD SAID IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL BE ABOUT $400 TO REPAIR; THEY WILL NOT PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION AND MY INSURANCE WON'T COVER A RENTAL UNLESS I AM IN A COLLISION. IRONICALLY, HAD I TURNED LEFT WHEN I LEFT THE DRUGSTORE I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE MAIN STREET IN TOWN AND BETWEEN A STRIP SHOPPING CENTER AND THE MALL AND PROBABLY WOULD HAVE BEEN IN A WRECK! SINCE THEN THE VEHICLE HAS DONE THIS ABOUT A HALF DOZEN TIMES BUT NOT ALWAYS BY JUST STALLING. THE VEHICLE HAS ALSO WENT INTO 'LIMP HOME' MODE ON AT LEAST ONE OCCASION WHEN MY SON WAS DRIVING AND HE WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE CLOSE TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE WHERE IT SAT OVERNIGHT. WHEN WE STARTED IT THE NEXT TIME IT RAN LIKE IT WAS MISFIRING VERY BADLY, SO WE TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND TAPPED ON THE THROTTLE BODY WITH THE HANDLE OF A SCREWDRIVER. IT THEN STARTED AND IDLED NORMALLY AND WE WERE ABLE TO DRIVE IT ABOUT THREE MILES HOME. IT ALSO HAS SPUTTERED ERRATICALLY SIMILAR TO A VERY BAD REPEATED MISFIRING UNTIL STOPPING AND TURNING THE IGNITION OFF. IT DID THIS TWICE WITHIN A QUARTER MILE AND THEN RAN FINE FOR OVER 15 MILES THAT I DROVE IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHO WANTED $107 DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE A PROBLEM THAT I AM FAIRLY CERTAIN I ALREADY HAD FIGURED OUT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEIR 'SPECIALLY TRAINED' TECHNICIANS MAY FIND A DIFFERENT CAUSE THAN THE P2111 CODE I HAD READ WITH A SCANNER FROM A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE SUGGESTED. I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS SUPPOSED ADDRESSED BY FORD THINKING THAT THERE WAS A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD PROBLEM IN THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. HOWEVER, THIS VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED IN MARCH OF 2010, AFTER THE OCTOBER 15TH, 2009 DATE THEY HAD STARTED USING THE NEW PART. *TR

SAME EVENING ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP - 10 MILES AWAY....GOT 1 MILE DOWN THE HIGHWAY, CAR LURCHED, ACCELERATION LOST, ENGINE STILL RUNNING, COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD, TURNED OF IGNITION, RESTARTED AND SUCCESSFULLY DROVE THE MILE BACK TO MY HOUSE. CAR STALLED AND QUICKLY SLOWED DOWN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND HAD TO PULL ONTO A NARROW SHOULDER WITH LOTS OF DEBRIS. CAR WOULD THEN ALLOW ME TO SPEED UP AGAIN AND REPEAT THE RAPID STALL UNTIL ULTIMATELY GOING INTO LIMP MODE. WAS LATER FOUND TO BE THE THROTTLE BODY THAT WAS SAID TO BE ON BACK-ORDER FOR THREE WEEKS SINCE SO MANY OTHERS WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR ESCAPES AND THAT FORD HAD A REDESIGN IN WORK. HAD TO PAY MY EXTENDED WARRANTY CO-PAY SINCE FORD HAS NO RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF HEAVY TRAFFIC, MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY BECAME UNRESPONSIVE. EVEN THOUGH I HAD MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE ENGINE STARTED SPUTTERING. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO COAST TO THE RIGHT LANE IN FRONT OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND TO SAFETY.THE APPROACHING VEHICLE HAD TO SLAM ON HIS BREAKS AND NARROWLY MISSED COLLIDING WITH ME. IF THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN ANY CLOSER OR IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE, I WOULD HAVE HAD A SERIOUS CRASH WITH SOMEONE BEING BADLY INJURED OR KILLED. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. I JUST READ ABOUT ANOTHER 2010 FORD ESCAPE OWNER THAT THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THEM FOUR TIMES AND THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I AM AFRAID OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AGAIN AND I BELIEVE FORD IS AWARE OF THIS HAPPENING SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE TO INVESTIGATE AND CORRECT THIS PROBLEM BEFORE PEOPLE ARE KILLED. *TR
THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES NOW. DRIVING AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAR HAS NO POWER. NO MATTER HOW HARD THE GAS PEDAL IS BEING PUSHED THE CAR WILL NOT MOVE. I HAVE TO TRY TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING HIT. THEN I CAN TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN BACK ON AND IT WORKS DECENT. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND COULD NOT GO ANYWHERE. THE LAST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ON THE FREEWAY. THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE FIXED. *TR
THIS INCIDENT WAS THE SECOND ONE WITHIN ONE MONTH. WHILE DRIVING AT 30 MPH, THE ENGINE, ALTHOUGH DID NOT CUT OFF COMPLETELY, IT SLOWED DOWN TO LOWEST POSSIBLE RPM, REDUCING THE VEHICLE SPEED FROM 30MPH TO ABOUT 3 MPH. BOTH MYSELF AND MY WIFE WERE LUCKY IN THAT THERE WERE NO VEHICLES BEHIND US FOR THEY FOR SURE WOULD HAVE RUN INTO US. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE ORIGINALLY PURCHASED IT AND THEY TOLD US WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS, STATING THAT THEY HAVE HAD MANY VEHICLES RETURNED FOR THE SAME PROBLEM AND WE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT FOR REPLACEMENTS PARTS BECAUSE THERE IS A SHORTAGE OF PARTS DUE TO DEMAND. NEEDLESS TO SAY THEY ARE CHARGING US 440 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE VALVE BODY. *TR
ON GOING PROBLEM WITH TRUCK LOSING POWER ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS UP TO 60MPH THEN NO POWER. FINALLY TRUCK TOTALLY STALLED OUT UNABLE TO KEEP RUNNING. NOW I FOUND OUT THE PART IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH IT IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTED----------COST----OUT OF POCKET $569.00 PLUS CAR RENTAL------PERFECT!!!!!!! I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER FORD---FIX OR REPAIR DAILY!!!! *TR
AS I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AND WAS SLOWING DOWN THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACTED LIKE TRANSMISSION KICKED INTO NEUTRAL BUT WHEN I LOOKED DOWN I SAW OPEN WRENCH SYMBOL IN CLUSTER LIT UP AND RPM WAS AT IDLE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE BEING APPLIED AND ENGINE WAS RUNNING AWFUL. I HAD TO PULL OFF ONTO SHOULDER AND CUT IGNITION OFF AND RESTART VEHICLE BUT WAS ONLY ABLE TO MAKE IT A BOUT A 100 YDS. WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WE CAUGHT A RIDE HOME AND I CAME BACK WITH MY SCANNER AND DROVE IT DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND IT DID IT AGAIN AT 55 MPH. SO I PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND SCANNED FOR CODES AND IT HAD PENDING CODE P2111- THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK OPEN. I PURCHASED NEW THROTTLE BODY AND INSTALLED MYSELF AT A COST OF 171.68 LESS TAX. NOT COVERED BY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. CAR OPERATES FINE SO FAR. 2010 FORD ESCAPE 3.0LITER V-6 WITH 55 THOUSAND MILES. *TR
THE VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I WAS PULLING OUT FROM A STOP OR JUST AFTER I PULLED OUT FROM A STOP. I TOOK IT TO MY DEALER TO HAVE IT SERVICED AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS COST ME A TOTAL OF 384.08. I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALER THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER 2010 ESCAPES AT THAT DEALERSHIPS. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH LEAD ME TO SEE THAT IT HAS HAPPENED TO MANY OTHERS AS WELL. THERE IS NO QUESTION THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I STALLED IN INTERSECTIONS ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. IF THERE IS A RECALL, I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE SURE I AM REIMBURSED FOR THE EXPENSE I HAVE PAID TO FIX THIS. *TR
ESCAPE SPUTTERED & STALLED. RESTARTED & WAS SERVICED BY FORD TO 'CLEAN' THE THROTTLE BODY. WITHIN A FEW DAYS, IT EXHIBITED THE SAME BEHAVIOR BUT MUCH MORE FREQUENT RENDERING THE CAR UNRELIABLE. REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FROM THE DEALER FOR ANOTHER 3-4 WEEKS. *TR
WE WERE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN WE SUDDENLY HAD NO MORE ACCELERATION. THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING BUT WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL IT DIDN'T GIVE US ANY GO AND WE STARTED DECELERATING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THANKFULLY, WE WERE ABLE TO QUICKLY PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID BEING REAR-ENDED. WE TURNED THE TRUCK OFF, WAITING A MINUTE OR TWO AND STARTED IT BACK UP AND HAD ACCELERATION AGAIN FOR A FEW MILES. THIS HAPPENED OVER AND OVER AGAIN FOR THE REMAINING 8 OR SO MILES TO OUR HOUSE WHERE WE WERE FINALLY ABLE TO PULL UP IN FRONT OF OUR HOUSE AND CALLED OUR LOCAL FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE TRUCK TOWED TO THEIR SHOP. WE'RE STILL WAITING TO HEAR WHAT THEY FOUND OUT BUT FROM MY RESEARCH I JUST DID ON THE INTERNET IT APPEARS THIS IS A VERY COMMON AND SERIOUS PROBLEM FOR MANY FORD ESCAPE OWNERS. *TR
LEAVING HOME CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND THROTTLE LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS JERKING AND WOULD ALLOW ME TO GIVE IT ANY GAS. *TR
CAR STUTTERING THEN SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. DEALERSHIP SAID THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH MANY VEHICLES. SO COMMON THAT THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER FOR OVER A WEEK. *TR
DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN ACCELERATE FAILED TO ENGAGE. TRUCK WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO ACCELERATE. IN OTHER CASES WHEN APPLYING BREAKS CARE SEEMED TO BE TRYING TO ACCELERATE..EVENTUALLY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DIAGNOSED AS FAILURE OF THROTTLE BODY. *TR
