THE ENGINE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING MULTIPLE TIMES IN TRAFFIC WHICH CAUSED A DANGEROUS SITUATION. THERE WAS A LIMITED AREA WHICH TO PULL THE CAR OFF AWAY FROM MOVING TRAFFIC. THE THROTTLE BODY IS AT FAULT.
THE FIRST INCIDENT HAPPENED AS I WAS LEAVING WORK. I'D JUST PULLED OUT OF OUR PARKING LOT ONTO THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY CAR FAILED TO ACCELERATE. A WRENCH SYMBOL LIGHT CAME ON AND I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY, TURNED IT OFF, LET IT SIT FOR A MOMENT AND THEN RESTARTED MY CAR. I MADE IT ABOUT 7 MILES WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT AND USED MY PHONE TO GOOGLE THE SYMPTOMS ON A FORD FORUM. IT STATED THAT THERE WERE IN FACT SEVERAL INCIDENTS STATING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEMS. AND THAT AFTER RESTARTING THEIR VEHICLES, IT RESETS ITSELF. SO I CONTINUED HOME. IT HAPPENED 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE I MADE IT HOME ONLY NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AS WELL. I CALLED FORD AND THEY STATED THERE WAS IN FACT AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AFFECTING SEVERAL FORD VEHICLES. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO FORD WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THAT IT WAS IN FACT THE THROTTLE BODY. HOWEVER, THIS PART IS NOW ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER. I AM THE 13TH PERSON AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP NEEDING THIS PART IN ORDER TO DRIVE MY VEHICLE. I HAVE CHILDREN AND I REFUSE TO PUT THEIR LIVES AT RISK IN THIS VEHICLE. THEY CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY AND SAID THIS WAS A BAND AID FIX UNTIL THE PART CAME IN WHICH BY THE WAY HAS NO ETA.THIS BAND AID REPAIR LASTED LESS THAN 24 HOURS. I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND IT WILL COVER THIS REPAIR BUT I'M GOING TO HAVE TO PAY $100 DEDUCTIBLE FOR IT TO BE FIXED. WHY AM I HAVING TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR A PROBLEM THAT IS NOT SPECIFIC TO MY VEHICLE? THEY HAVE POSTED BULLETINS BUT STILL NO RECALL. IS IT GOING TO TAKE SOMEONE BEING KILLED BEFORE THEY DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. I'M HAVING TO DEPEND ON RIDES FROM FRIENDS TO GET TO AND FROM WORK, TO GET TO THE GROCERY STORE, TO PICK UP MY CHILDREN. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL COVER 2 DAYS OF A RENTAL. FORD SAYS THEY CAN'T OFFER ME A LOANER VEHICLE. PLEASE MAKE THEM DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS... *TR
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 25 MPH ABOUT 0.25 MILES FROM MY GARAGE THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE WHEN I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THERE WAS NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. I WAS UNABLE TO RE-START THE ENGINE AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF, AND HAD TO BE TOWED TO A SERVICE CENTER. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE WAS P111 -- THROTTLE BODY STUCK OPEN. UPON REMOVAL OF THE THROTTLE BODY, THE SERVICE MECHANIC SAID THE THROTTLE BODY APPEARED NORMAL. I RETAINED THE ORIGINAL THROTTLE BODY AS EVIDENCE AFTER IT WAS REPLACED. *TT
AT A STOP LIGHT, LIGHT TURNED GREEN GOT UP TO ABOUT 10MPH AND THE VEHICLE JUST LOST POWER...STILL AT AN IDLE IN MORNING TRAFFIC ALMOST HIT BY TWO CARS. THIS IS RIDICULOUS IF ALL OF THESE PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE THEN WHY WONT A RECALL BE ISSUED? I AM A SINGLE WORKING PARENT OF THREE AND $600 TO SHELL OUT TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT FORD KNOWS IS AN ISSUE? HOW WILL I BE COMPENSATED AFTER THE FACT BECAUSE I KNOW SOONER OR LATER FORD WILL HAVE TO STOP PUSHING ALL OF US OFF. *TR
DRIVING THIS MORNING AT 30 MILES PER HOUR AND I FEEL MY 2010 ESCAPE LOSE POWER NO RESPONSE WHEN PUSHING THE ACCELERATOR. WRENCH ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND I PUT MY CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PRESS THE ACCELERATOR BUT NOTHING HAPPENS. ENGINE NEVER APPEARED TO DIE IT FELT LIKE IT WAS STILL RUNNING JUST WAS NOT RESPONDING. I TURNED OFF THE ESCAPE AND TURNED IT BACK ON WITH NO PROBLEMS. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST BUT RECENTLY GOT A NEW BATTERY WHICH IT HAD FELT LIKE IT FIXED THE PROBLEM BECAUSE THE ESCAPE NO LONGER WAS SLUGGISH WHEN DRIVING OR CHANGING GEARS WITH A JERK LIKE IT HAD IN THE PAST. BATTERY IS ONLY A MONTH OLD AND OIL CHANGE WAS DONE AT THE SAME TIME. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND THERE ARE CURRENTLY 231 COMPLAINTS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED ON POWER TRAIN FAILURE AND EVERY STORY SOUNDS JUST LIKE MINE. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY RISK SINCE THE CAR NO LONGER RESPONDS WHILE DRIVING. PLEASE CONSIDER RECALL. *TR
6/26/13 - DRIVING IN THE RIGHT LANE ON INTERSTATE 81 IN PENNSYLVANIA AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MILES PER HOUR AND ENGINE COMPLETELY LOST POWER. A LARGE TRUCK WAS BEHIND ME AND I IMMEDIATELY PUT MY FOUR WAY FLASHERS ON. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES IN THE LEFT LANE AND THE TRUCK CHANGED LANES. ADDITIONAL VEHICLES WERE COMING UPON MY VEHICLE QUICKLY SO I PULLED OVER ON THE BERM AT ABOUT 40 MPH AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AND STOPPED. TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED AND PROBLEM WENT AWAY AND CONTINUED ON TRIP. PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY 6/27/13 DRIVING ON INTERSTATE 81 AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. SAME PROBLEM WHERE ENGINE COMPLETELY LOST POWER. I PUT ON MY FOUR WAY FLASHERS AND APPROACHING TRAFFIC STARTED MOVING TO THE LEFT LANE. PULLED OVER TO THE BERM AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. RESTARTED AND TRIED TO PULL OUT. PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. SHUTOFF AND RESTARTED AND WAS THEN ABLE TO PULL OUT AND FINISH TRIP. THIS IS THE FOURTH TIME IN LESS THAN A MONTH THAT THIS HAS OCCURRED. AFTER THE FIRST TIME I CONTACTED FORD AND ORDERED A NEW THROTTLE BODY. PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND KEEP BEING TOLD NEXT WEEK. FORD MADE ME GIVE THEM A CREDIT CARD TO ORDER THE PART AND HAS CHARGED MY ACCOUNT BUT HAS NOT GIVEN ME THE PART. *TR
DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET I BEGAN TO LOSE POWER TO THE GAS PEDAL. MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE BEGAN TO ACT AS THOUGH IT WOULD STALL HOWEVER ALL I COULD DO WAS COAST TO A SIDE STREET TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC BEHIND ME. ONCE IN PARK I NOTICED THE WRENCH LIGHT COME ON MY DASHBOARD. I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF AND RESTARTED TO WHICH THE LIGHT INDICATOR WENT AWAY AND THE VEHICLE ACTED FINE. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHERE I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER! I WILL BE WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR POSSIBLE 30 BUSINESS DAYS. FORD WILL ONLY GIVE ME A RENTAL FOR 4 DAYS! WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL YET? I THANK GOD I WAS NOT ON THE HIGHWAY WITH MY TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR WITH ME. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED APPROPRIATELY BY FORD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND ABOUT TO ENTER THE BELTWAY AND I STOPPED BECAUSE IT WAS A RED LIGHT. I PRESSED THE GAS AS THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN AND MY CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS ABOUT TO CUT OFF. THIS WRENCH SYMBOL SHOWED UP ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THEN MY CAR STARTED ACTING FUNNY. I HAD TO CUT MY CAR OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WAS ALMOST HIT BY CARS ENTERING THE BELTWAY. I WAS DEATHLY AFRAID. I HAVE 2 SMALL GRANDCHILDREN AND I WILL NOT PUT THEM IN HARMS WAY. UNFORTUNATELY MY CAR HAS BEEN DOING THIS FOR THE PAST MONTH. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN FOR REPAIR AND THE PART I NEED TO FIX IT IS ON BACK ORDER. I HAVE BEEN PAYING FOR A RENTAL OUT OF POCKET. *TR
I DRIVE A 2010 FORD ESCAPE AND IT WILL LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING. ONCE POWER DROPS OUT, THE VEHICLE MAY ONLY BE DRIVEN AT ABOUT 20 MILES PER HOUR OR LESS AND SOUNDS/DRIVES ROUGH. I PULL OVER, SHUT VEHICLE OFF, WAIT A MINUTE OR SO AND RE-START AND IT WILL RUN FINE. THEN AT SOME LATER POINT WILL RANDOMLY QUIT AGAIN. A LITTLE WRENCH SHOWS UP ON THE CORNER OF THE SCREEN BUT GOES AWAY AND RESETS ITSELF WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RE-STARTED SO NO INFORMATION THERE TO ASSIST WITH THIS ISSUE WHEN CONNECTED TO A COMPUTER. *TR
DROVE ABOUT AN HOUR AWAY FROM HOME, MOSTLY HIGHWAY. WHEN I GOT INTO THE CITY TOWARDS THE END OF THE TRIP, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING. I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO GO A FEW HUNDRED FEET BEFORE I LOST ACCELERATION AGAIN. THIS TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER, WAITED ABOUT 10 MINUTES, RESTARTED THE CAR, AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE REST OF THE WAY (LESS THAN A MILE). THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I AM CURRENTLY ON A LONG WAITING LIST FOR PARTS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A BACK ROAD, OUR ESCAPE STARTED TO HESITATE. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND. I THEN TRIED TO PULL OFF THE ROAD AND THAT'S WHEN THE CAR STARTED TO SHUDDER. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OVER ON THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND TURN IT OFF. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH, WHEN I LOST ENGINE POWER. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING AT AN IDLE SPEED BUT WOULD NOT INCREASE RPM UPON PRESSING ACCELERATOR WITH THE SUV IN PARK. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE FOR ABOUT TWO MINUTES. I RESTARTED THE SUV AND PROCEED BACK DOWN THE HIGHWAY. AFTER ABOUT 25 MILES, IT DID THE SAME THING. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED. EVERYTHING APPEARED TO BE FINE. SINCE I WAS OUT OF TOWN, I DECIDED TO HEAD BACK. I DROVE 125 MILES WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I TOOK INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE THROTTLE BODY WITH A REPAIR CODE OF P2111. THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY. I DROVE THE SUV FOR TWO WEEKS AND IT STARTED TO SHUT DOWN AGAIN. THE PART WAS ORDER ON JULY 11 AND STILL HAS NOT BEEN RECEIVED BY THE DEALERSHIP. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. THIS INDICATES TO ME THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH A LOT OF OTHER VEHICLES. I LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN AND I AM AWARE OF TWO OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TT
TWICE IN LESS THAN 24 HOURS, THE CAR WENT INTO "LIMP HOME" MODE COMPLETE WITH WRENCH INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE ENGINE DROPPED AND WOULD NOT COME ABOVE 1000 RPM, AND WOULD ALLOW THE VEHICLE TO LURCH FORWARD AT NO MORE THAN 15-20 MILES PER HOUR. THE FIRST INCIDENT OCCURRED ON 6/24 AT AN INTERSECTION, UPON THE LIGHT TURNING GREEN. AS I ACCELERATED TO GO THROUGH THE INTERSECTION, THE VEHICLE DROPPED INTO "LIMP" MODE AND FORCED A LEFT TURN TO PARK AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE. DOING SO AND ALLOWING IT TO SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES GOT IT TO RESET AND NOT HAPPEN AGAIN ON MY WAY HOME. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE WAS THE MORNING OF 6/25, IN THE MIDDLE OF I-95 ON MY WAY TO WORK; APPROXIMATE SPEED WAS 55-60 MILES PER HOUR. THANKFULLY, I WAS IN THE FAR RIGHT LANE AND ABLE TO DRIFT TO THE SHOULDER TO REPEAT LAST NIGHT'S PROCEDURE. CONSIDERING THE NEGATIVE PRESS THE "LIMP HOME" MODE AND THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY GET FROM VARIOUS FORUMS RECOUNTING VERY SIMILAR OCCASIONS TO MY OWN EXPERIENCE, THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL BEFORE SOMEBODY GETS KILLED! A TSB OR "SUGGESTED SOLUTION" IS NOT ENOUGH! *TR
FIRST TIME I NOTICED A PROBLEM WITH THE CAR IT STARTED TO SURGE AT A STOP LIGHT. THIS HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES IN THE LAST MONTH. THEN WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT APPROX. 65 MPH THE CAR STALLED OUT AND HAD TO PULL OVER. TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND THEN RESTARTED CAR AND DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP. DEALERSHIP CHECKED CODES AND SAID THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY FAILED. PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN! *TR
CAR STALLED AT 35 MPH AND I BECAME STUCK ON THE ROAD IN TRAFFIC. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE ENGINE WAS IDLING LOW AND THE THROTTLE PEDAL WOULD NOT MOVE THE CAR. I GOT TOWED TO A FORD DEALER WHO SAID THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE PART IS OUT OF STOCK NATION WIDE AND ONE CUSTOMER THEY HAVE HAS BEEN WAITING FOR 2 MONTHS FOR A THROTTLE BODY. I CALLED 5 DEALERS FOR PART AVAILABILITY AND THEY ARE OUT TOO AND HAVE CUSTOMERS WAITING FOR A PART. *TR
I WAS PREPARING FOR A STOP LIGHT IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN MY VEHICLE SPEED TO STALL AND SHAKE. ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE WAS GONE. AS I BRAKED THE SHAKING BECAME WORSE. I WAS FINALLY ABLE TO PULL ON TO A SIDE-ROAD AND PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, WHICH MADE THE SHAKE BECOME WORSE. I CUT THE VEHICLE OFF, WAITED ONE MINUTE, TURNED IT ON, AND IT SEEMED TO BE FINE. I ACCELERATED FOR APPROXIMATELY 200 FT AND THE EVENT REPEATED ITSELF. THIS CYCLE CONTINUED UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT INTO A MIDAS SHOP APPROXIMATELY 1/8TH OF A MILE FROM THE ONSET OF THE INCIDENT. THE MECHANIC PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC AND REPORTED THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DAMAGED. THE FORD ESCAPE DID NOT EXHIBIT ANY SYMPTOMS OR WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. *TR
MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED HAS COMPLETELY LOST POWER WHEN DRIVING ON FOUR DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WILL BE RUNNING FIND AND THEN YOU SUDDENLY LOSE ALL POWER. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL DEALER AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE REPLACEMENT PART AND WERE UNSURE OF WHEN THEY COULD GET IT. I FIND IT VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING A VEHICLE THAT COULD SUDDENLY LOSE POWER AT ANYTIME. ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE FORD SHOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THESE DEFECTIVE PARTS, FORD COULD AT LEAST BE RESPONSIBLE ENOUGH TO HAVE THESE PARTS SO THAT I COULD AT LEAST PAY TO HAVE MY VEHICLE FIXED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG & SUDDENLY LOST ALL THROTTLE. A WRENCH APPEARED ON MY INSTRUMENT PANEL & IT WAS RUNNING VERY ROUGH. I WAS ABLE TO IDLE OVER INTO A PARKING LOT, BUT HAD NO THROTTLE POWER. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF & JUST SAT THERE, THINKING ABOUT MY OPTIONS. I TRIED TO START IT & IT STARTED, SO I DROVE IT STRAIGHT TO A SHOP, WHERE THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THEIR DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. THE WRENCH IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WAS NO LONGER THERE & THE VEHICLE DIDN'T THROW ANY CODES. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME TO DRIVE IT & CONTACT FORD THAT NEXT DAY. I CALLED THE FORD DEALER & WAS TOLD THERE ARE NO RECALLS ON THIS. SINCE JUNE, THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES & IT FINALLY THREW A CODE IN WHICH THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, SO I HAD MY MECHANIC TAKE A LOOK AT IT. HE REMOVED THE THROTTLE BODY & CLEANED THE PLATES. IT SEEMED TO DO MUCH BETTER, UNTIL A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. IT'S STARTED IT AGAIN & IS NOW HAPPENING MUCH MORE FREQUENTLY. ON 08/27/2013, I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY IN THE PASSING LANE, GOING ABOUT 60 MPH WHEN IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I COULD HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED! I WAS ABLE TO LIMP IT OVER TO THE SHOULDER, WHERE I SHUT IT OFF, WAITED, & THEN STARTED IT BACK UP AGAIN. IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN ABOUT A 15 MILE PERIOD ON 09/06/2013 & TWO TIMES ON 09/08/2013. ON 09/06/2013, I AGAIN CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER & SPOKE TO SOMEONE IN PARTS. I WAS TOLD THE PART I NEEDED WAS RECALLED & WAS ALSO ON BACK ORDER (3,800 PARTS BEHIND). I CALLED BACK TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT & WAS TOLD THE PARTS PERSON WAS WRONG, BECAUSE THE PART HAD NOT BEEN RECALLED, ALTHOUGH HE HAD THREE CARS THERE WAITING ON THE SAME PART FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM. IF THIS IS A KNOWN CONSTANT PROBLEM, WHY HASN'T THERE BEEN A RECALL? SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT IN A REAR-ENDER ACCIDENT & I HOPE IT'S NOT ME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH. THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED AS THE FAILURE OCCURRED FOLLOWED BY THE VEHICLE STALLING, BUT THE MOTOR CONTINUED RUNNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE THROTTLE PLATE SENSOR AND THE POWER TRAIN COMPUTER MODULE WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM LOUISVILLE HEADED BACK TO CINCINNATI MY DAUGHTER EXPERIENCED OUR VEHICLE STALLING OUT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS 3 DIFFERENT TIMES. SHE WAS ABLE TO WORK HER WAY OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE VEHICLE EACH TIME. FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS WHILE AT STOP LIGHTS OR WHEN THE CAR WAS JUST IDLING I NOTICE THE CAR WOULD SHAKE/SPUTTER/HESITATE, LIKE IT WAS NOT GETTING ENOUGH FUEL TO THE ENGINE TO IDLE, EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE BUT IT DID NOT STALL OUT COMPLETELY IT WOULD RECOVER. THEN WHILE DRIVING HOME ON JUNE 23, 2013 AT 40MPH I TOOK MY FOOT OFF OF THE GAS PEDAL FOR A SECOND TO BEGIN TO SLOW DOWN AS I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, HOWEVER, THE LIGHT CHANGED BEFORE I GOT TO THE INTERSECTION AND THEN THE CAR MADE A SHUTTER/THUD NOT A LOUD SOUND BUT YOU KNEW SOMETHING HAS JUST HAPPENED, I THOUGHT MAYBE MY TRANSMISSION HAD JUST GONE OUT BECAUSE WHEN I WAS PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL IT DID NOT RESPOND. I PUSHED THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I COULD NOT TELL IF THE CAR REALLY STALLED OUT IT SEEMED MORE LIKE THE GAS PEDAL WAS JUST NOT RESPONDING. I LOST SPEED RAPIDLY AND COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT. THE FIRST TIME I RESTARTED THE CAR THE GAS PEDAL STILL DID NOT WORK BUT THE CAR DID GO INTO GEAR SO I THOUGHT IT MUST NOT BE THE TRANSMISSION. THE SECOND TIME I RESTARTED THE CAR I GAVE THE GAS PEDAL A COUPLE OF PUMPS BEFORE PUTTING INTO GEAR TO MAKE SURE IT WAS RESPONDING THAT WORKED AND I MADE IT HOME. THE CAR DID HESITATE AND SPUTTER WHEN I WAS SITTING STILL AT THE LIGHTS SO I WOULD PUT IT IN PARK AND REV THE ENGINE UNTIL THE LIGHT CHANGED. I TOOK THE CAR TO A FORD DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AND OF COURSE THAT IS AN OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE AS MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED. I WAS LATER ADVISED BY THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE VEHICLE NEEDED A THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY AT A COST OF $378.00 AND THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY PERIOD. WORSE YET, I WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS BACK ORDERED, SERVICE COULD GIVE NO DATE WHEN THE PART WOULD BE AVAILABLE, AS IT WAS ON NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER AND COULD BE SEVERAL WEEKS OR MORE BEFORE THE PART WAS AVAILABLE. NO LONER CAR WAS OFFERED FOR USE DURING THIS UNREASONABLE DELAY. *TR
I LOST ALL ACCELERATION IN MY ESCAPE WHEN I DROVE FORWARD FROM A COMPLETE STOP. I THOUGHT THE ENGINE HAD DIED, BUT IT ACTUALLY WAS SURGING. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE ABOUT 1 1/2 MILES HOME AT A SPEED OF NO MORE THAN 10 MPH. THE VEHICLE IS AT THE FORD DEALER, WHO ADVISED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE BACK ORDER TIME FOR THIS PART IS UP TO A WEEK, SO I AM FORCED TO RENT A CAR IN THE MEANTIME. I HOPE THIS NOW MASSIVE PROBLEM (I HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATING) LEADS TO AN IMMEDIATE RECALL. DROVE ABOUT 40 MINUTES OF SPEEDS UP TO 55 MPH. WHEN WE GOT NEAR OUR DESTINATION EVERYTIME WE SLOWED DOWN THE CAR WOULD KNOCK OFF. CAR WOULD CRANK BUT WOULD KNOCK OFF AGAIN. ABLE TO KEEP CAR GOING BY KEEPING RPMS UP. CAR WAS TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP AND REPAIRED. *TR
WHEN DRIVING TO THE GROCERY STORE ON SUNDAY, JUNE 23, MY BOYFRIEND AND I PULLED UP TO A STOP SIGN AND THEN ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE TO CROSS 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC. AGAIN, PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL WOULD NOT CAUSE THE CAR TO ACCELERATE. WE HAD TO ROLL ACROSS THE INTERSECTION AND TURN THE CAR OFF. THE CAR TURNED OVER ABOUT 3 OR 4 TIMES AND THEN STARTED. WE TOOK THE CAR INTO A LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP ON TUESDAY, JULY 2, AND WERE TOLD AFTER A FEW HOURS OF WAITING, THAT THE CAR HAS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. THE DEALER TOLD US THE PART COSTS $399 AND THE LABOR WOULD BE $100. WE HAD TO PAY $244.05 UP FRONT AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THE PART IS ON BACKORDER AND WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 1 MONTH TO COME IN. MY CAR ALSO HAS LOW ENOUGH MILEAGE (29,400) THAT IT STILL HAS A 5 YEAR POWERTRAIN WARRANTY (WHICH COVERED THE ENGINE) BUT WERE TOLD THAT WARRANTY DOESN'T COVER THE THROTTLE BODY. ON SATURDAY, JUNE 22, 2013, I DROVE 2.5 HOURS NORTH FOR ONE OF MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDINGS. I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE WITH CRUISE CONTROL SET AT ABOUT 70 MPH WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR LOST POWER. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE WITH A SEMI BEHIND ME. LUCKILY THE SEMI DRIVER WAS PAYING ATTENTION AND WAS ABLE TO MOVE INTO THE RIGHT LANE BEFORE REAR-ENDING ME. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE ON THE SHOULDER OF THE INTERSTATE AND COME TO A STOP. AS I DID, MY ESCAPE ACTED AS THOUGH IT WAS GOING TO DIE BUT DID NOT COMPLETELY. I NOTICED AN OPEN-ENDED WRENCH IN THE BOTTOM LEFT OF MY INSTRUMENT PANEL AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND LOOKED THROUGH THE MANUAL TO FIGURE OUT WHAT THE WRENCH LIGHT MEANT. IT SAID THROTTLE CONTROL/POWERTRAIN. I WAS RUNNING LATE TO BEGIN WITH SO I STARTED FREAKING OUT. I TURNED MY ESCAPE BACK ON AND EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE FINE. BOTH LIGHTS WENT OFF SO I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND GOT BACK ON THE INTERSTATE WITHOUT ANY MORE PROBLEMS. AT FIRST I THOUGHT MAYBE IT WAS CRUISE CONTROL GOING OUT SO I DIDN'T USE IT THE REST OF THE WAY. ONCE I GOT OFF THE INTERSTATE, I STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED I PROCEEDED THROUGH IT WITH MY ESCAPE STALLING AS SOON AS I TURNED, ALONG WITH BOTH LIGHTS BACK ON. I KNEW IT WAS SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE CRUISE. ONCE I GOT TO THE NEAREST TOWN, I STOPPED AT AUTOZONE AND HAD THEM TEST IT. THEIR COMPUTER SHOWED TPS/THROTTLE BODY FAILURE. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED DOING SOME RESEARCH TO FIND THIS PART SINCE AUTOZONE DOESN'T CARRY IT. I WAS SURPRISED TO FIND OUT THAT NO ONE CAN GET THIS PART AND FORD HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER FOR QUITE A FEW MONTHS. AFTER THE WEDDING, I DROVE BACK HOME WITH MY CAR STALLING MANY MORE TIMES. SINCE THEN, IT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE A DAY, IF NOT MORE. TWICE, MY CAR HAS STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY INTERSECTION ON MY WAY TO WORK, FREAKING ME OUT I WAS GOING TO GET HIT. FORD HAS INDICATED THAT THE PARTS FOR REPAIR ARE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER NOTE THAT THE FORD DEALER I PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM BONELL FORD IN WINCHESTER MA. HAS 3 OTHER FORD ESCAPE'S WAITING FOR THE SAME PARTS - THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. *TR

I TURNED THE MOTOR OFF; RESTARTED AND WAS ABLE TO TURN AROUND BUT THE CAR STOPPED AGAIN AS I WAS PULLING INTO AN INTERSECTION FROM A STOPPED POSITION. AFTER THREE MORE TIMES OF STOPPING AND RESTARTING THE CAR, I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE ON AND DROVE TO THE FORD DEALER ABOUT A MILE FROM THE INCIDENT. I WAS TOLD THE "WRENCH SYMBOL" INDICATED TRANSMISSION TROUBLE. AFTER THEIR DIAGNOSIS I WAS TOLD WE NEEDED A THROTTLE BODY. THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER, AND I HAVE NOW BEEN ONE WEEK WITHOUT A CAR. I WAS TOLD THIS HAS BECOME A MAJOR PROBLEM EVERYWHERE AND OVER 9,000 OF THIS PART ARE ON BACKORDER AND ALL ARE NEEDED TO COMPLETE REPAIRS. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE PARTS DEPT. THAT FORD EXPECTED TO NEED AN ADDITIONAL 14,000 THROTTLE BODIES TO MEET THE DEMAND OF THE FAILING PART. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE PART HAS BEEN RE-ENGINEERED FROM THE ORIGINAL FACTORY INSTALLED PART BECAUSE OF THESE FAILURES. I HAVE HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE AT MY OWN EXPENSE. *TR
DRIVING MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT ON SR 58 THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHAKE, COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY SLOWED DOWN TO ABOUT 3-5MPH. I COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. THIS WAS A VERY SCARY SITUATION. OTHER VEHICLES WERE DRIVING PAST & BEEPING, NOT KNOWING WHAT WAS HAPPENING. THE COULD HAVE CREATED A DANGEROUS SITUATION. LUCKILY I FOCUSED, WENT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO PREVENT ANY ACCIDENTS. AFTER ABOUT 30 MINUTES, STARTED THE VEHICLE AND SLOWLY DROVE APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE DOWN THE ROAD THE A FORD DEALERSHIP. AGAIN WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE AND I COULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE FORD SERVICE DEPT PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE RESULT WAS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. AND SAID THE FORD PARTS TO FIX THE VEHICLE ARE ON A NATIONAL BACKORDER FOR 2-3 WEEKS. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVE TO RENT A VEHICLE, VERY EXPENSIVE. FORD DID NOT OFFER A LOANER VEHICLE. FORD NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL ON THIS PART AND CORRECT THEIR MISTAKE BEFORE MULTIPLE FATALITIES OCCUR. ALL FORD ESCAPE OWNERS WILL SOON FALL VICTIM TO THIS HAZARD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE WENT FROM AROUND 35 MPH ON A BUSY ROAD TO A ROUGH IDLE. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING BUT WOULD NOT RESPOND TO PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL, IT JUST STAYED RUNNING ON A ROUGH IDLE. I CONTINUED ON AT 3 MILES AN HOUR WAVING CARS TO PASS ME UNTIL I FOUND A SAFE PLACE TO PULL OVER. I WAITED 20 MINUTES BEFORE STARTING THE VEHICLE AND IT THEN RAN NORMALLY. SO I WENT ON AND ABOUT 5 MILES FURTHER IT DID IT AGAIN. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND I RESTATED THE ENGINE IN JUST A FEW MINUTES AGAIN. IT DID IT AGAIN AND AGAIN SOMETIMES I WOULD ONLY NEED TO SHUT IT OFF FOR A SECOND. I TOOK IT INTO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY CHARGED ME $125.00 FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST TO TELL ME IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY (FORD WOULD NOT COVER THE TEST). THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART IN STOCK AND TOLD ME IT WAS ON BACK ORDER AS THE FORD CHICAGO WAREHOUSE WAS OUT OF THEM. THE FORD SERVICE WRITER ALSO TOLD ME THEY HAVE REPLACED A NUMBER OF THEM SINCE HIS HIRING JUST THREE MONTHS PRIOR. HE FIRST TOLD ME A DIRTY AIR FILTER CAUSED THE PART TO FAIL, WHEN I EXPLAINED TO HIM I KNOW WHAT A DIRT AIR FILTER IS AND I DON'T HAVE ONE. THEN HE SAID IT WAS BECAUSE I DIDN'T DRIVE MY CAR ENOUGH AND THERE WAS CARBON BUILDUP CAUSING IT. SO I ASKED HIM IF FORD WAS SAYING THEY DON'T BUILD A GOOD ENOUGH ENGINE. HE ADMITTED HE WAS JUST READING THE PRINT OUT. THEY WOULDN'T HONOR MY POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY OF 5 YEARS OR 50,000 MILES. I WROTE A LETTER AND PERSONALLY DELIVERED IT TO THE FORD DEALER AND NO ONE HAS BOTHERED TO CONTACT ME AND IT'S BEEN EIGHT DAYS NOW. THE MECHANIC ACTUALLY TRIED TO SELL ME TIRES AND GAVE ME BOGUS REASONS WHY THE BACK TWO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE BACK TO HAVE 7/32 LEFT ACCORDING TO A REAL TIRE STORE'S SALESMAN AND ARE ALMOST LIKE NEW. PROBLEM OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES AND APPEARS TO BE MORE FREQUENT. THE FIRST TIME IT OCCURRED I WAS DRIVING 55 MILES PER HOUR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE GAS PEDAL DID NOTHING, THE CAR DID NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND SHUT THE CAR OFF. WHEN I STARTED THE CAR BECK UP IT HESITATED, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TURNED OFF, AND WORKED FINE. THE SAME THING HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS LATER. NOW I NOTICED THAT THE RPM GAUGE FLUCTUATES QUITE A BIT WHEN I START THE CAR AND THEN AGAIN WHEN I AM STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. TODAY, I WAS DRIVING WITH NO PROBLEM AND STOPPED BECAUSE THE CAR IN FRONT ME WAS STOPPED TO MAKE A TURN. WHEN I TRIED TO CONTINUE DRIVING, MY CAR STALLED AND I HAD TO TURN IT OFF AND THEN BACK ON. THERE WERE A LINE OF CARS BEHIND ME AND I WAS ALMOST REAR-ENDED. *TR
WAS SITTING AT LIGHT ON A FRIDAY NIGHT TAKING A TURN WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN IT STARTED TO DIE THEN GOT IT OUT OF THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION TURNED IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND IT WAS FINE. TOOK IT IN TO FORD SHEEHY THAT SATURDAY AFTER IT HAPPENED WROTE THE COMPLAINT AND THEY SAID THEY KNOW WHAT IT IS AND CLEANED THE THROTTLEBODY BUT THERE WASN'T MUCH MORE THAT THEY COULD DO THAN THAT AND IT WAS DRIVABLE NOW. WELL, THIS MONTH OF JULY 2013 JULY 10 I HAD MY SON IN THE CAR WITH ME GOING 45 IT WENT TO 3 MPH IN 2 SECONDS IN THE MIDDLE TRAFFIC AND THE LITTLE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ONE WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTARTED THE CAR, IT SEEMED FINE THEN WENT EXACTLY 4 FEET AND IT DID IT AGAIN AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON PULLED TO THE SIDE THIS TIME WHEN I RESTARTED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON DID THIS 5 MILES THE WHOLE TIME TRYING TO GET HOME. THE NEXT MORNING CHECK ENGINE WAS OFF SO THOUGHT IT WAS GOOD TO GO DROVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR AND GOT OFF AND THE ENGINE WENT FROM 40 DOWN TO 3 MPH WITH IN 2 SECONDS AND GOT THE WRENCH AGAIN, GOT IT STARTED AND INTO WORK GARAGE AND PARKED IT FOR THE DAY. THOUGHT OKAY IT SHOULD BE FINE TO DRIVE IT BACK 26 MILES HOME WAS GOING 65 AND THE CAR WENT DOWN TO 3 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WAS ABLE TO PULL COAST OFF AS I WAS COASTING IT DIED WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. TODAY COMING INTO WORK I GOT 3 MILES FROM HOME AND IT REPEATED THE PROCESS OF 40 DOWN TO 3 WRENCH LIGHT ON, GOT IT GOING GOT TO WORK AND 2 BLOCKS FROM WORK IT REPEATED THE PROCESS OF 40 DOWN TO 3 BEEN SITTING ALL DAY. EACH TIME I GET P2112. THIS HAS GOTTEN TO BE TOO DANGEROUS FOR ME TO DRIVE THIS CAR WITH ANYONE IN IT AND INCLUDING MYSELF DURING RUSH HOUR. THIS HAS BECOME A DAILY OCCURRENCE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING FROM ATLANTA, GEORGIA AREA TO OPP, ALABAMA, TRAVELING AT ABOUT 55 MPH, THE CAR ENGINE JUST SHUT DOWN, ENGINE AND MECHANICAL LIGHTS CAME ON. WE COASTED TO A STOP WITH THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN. WE RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND WERE ABLE TO RESUME. WE WERE ABLE TO DO THIS PROCEDURE FOUR TIMES, FOR ABOUT 9 MILES AND REACHED OUR DESTINATION. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A FORD DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS "THE THROTTLE BODY BROKE." I WAS ADVISED THAT THIS PART WAS ON BACK-ORDER, NATIONWIDE, AND MAY BE DELIVERED IN 1 WEEK OR 2 MONTHS. THEREFORE, WE ARE NOW STRANDED. *TR
DRIVING DURING FAVORABLE CONDITIONS, AFTER STOP FOR TRAFFIC SIGNAL CAR BEGAN TO LUNGE DURING TAKE OFF ACCELERATION. THE POWETRAIN/THROTTLE CONTROL LIGHT ON DASH ILLUMINATED. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED BAD THROTTLE BODY AND REPORTED SHORTAGE OF PART, ANTICIPATING 30 DAY WAIT FOR AVAILABILITY. *TR
ON 6/20/13, I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN SUDDENLY, TRUCK STARTED TO DECREASE SPEED AND YELLOW WRENCH SYMBOL APPEARED ON DASHBOARD. I PULLED OVER AND CUT OFF VEHICLE. WHEN I STARTED THE VEHICLE UP AGAIN, IT MADE A SOUND AS IF IT WAS GOING TO KILL, HOWEVER, IT CRANKED UP AND I PROCEEDED TO DRIVE HOME, AND WRENCH SYMBOL DIDN'T COME ON AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY, I WENT TO WORK AND VEHICLE OPERATED FINE THAT MORNING , UNTIL I LEFT FOR LUNCH. THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WHILE MAKING A TURN AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON. LUCKILY THE DEALERSHIP WASN'T FAR, EACH TIME I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT IT KILLED. FINALLY MADE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY WIRE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ENDED UP PAYING $533.. *TR
TURNED TO GO UP SLIGHT HILL IN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE EVEN WITH GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. CAR SHOOK AND BUCKED. WAS ABLE TO LIMP UP HILL IN SEVERAL MINUTES AND COAST DOWN OTHER SIDE TO REST. DEALER SAYS IT IS A BAD THROTTLE BODY. PART IS ON NATIONAL RECALL. DEALER ALSO SAYS PART IS NOT COVERED BY POWERTRAIN WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH POWERTRAIN/THROTTLE IS THE WARNING LIGHT THAT APPEARS ON DASH AND THROTTLE BODY CONTROLS THE POWER TRAIN. DEALER IN TALLAHASSEE, FL ALSO REPORTED AT LEAST 2 OTHER ESCAPES IN SHOP WITH SAME PROBLEM AND AWAITING PART. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE HAS STALLED. THE FIRST COUPLE OF TIMES IT WOULD TURN OFF WHILE I WAS AT A RED LIGHT OR AT A STOP SIGN, IT THEN STARTED TURNING OFF WHILE I WAS IN ACTIVE DRIVING. MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS RESULTED DEFECTS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY PARTICULARLY PART 9E926 - BODY ASY-AIR CHARGE. THE WARRANTY DOCUMENTATION STATES THE PART IS NOT A COVERED REPAIRED IN MY STATE HOWEVER IT IS COVERED IN CALIFORNIA UP TO 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES. THE PART REQUIRED IS CURRENTLY ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND THEN INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000. *TR
THE VEHICLE EITHER STALLED OR WENT INTO SAFE OR LIMP HOME MODE WHILE TRAVELING AROUND 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS HAPPENED DURING A BUSY TRAFFIC TIME CAUSING OTHER VEHICLES TO BRAKE HARD TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. I WITH MY 3 YEAR OLD SON WERE STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY UNTIL SOMEONE WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK HOME FOR ME. IT WAS A SCARY AND DANGEROUS SITUATION. P2112 WAS THE CODE THAT WAS READ WHEN WE HAD IT LOOKED AT. APPARENTLY AN ISSUE WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND RESTARTED IT BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. A CERTIFIED MECHANIC LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,800.
WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN CAR LURCHED FORWARD AND THEN PROCEEDED TO COAST. I PRESSED GAS PEDAL BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. I HAD TO STEER THROUGH TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE CAR STARTED TO STUMBLE LIKE IT WAS GOING TO DIE. I SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED, IT STARTED NORMAL SO I PROCEEDED HOME. I HAD LESS THAN A MILE TO HOME YET IT DIED 2 MORE TIMES. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM SEEING HOW YOU'RE DEAD IN THE WATER WHEN THE CAR MALFUNCTIONS! IT TAKES A LOT TO SCARE ME BUT SEEING HOW I WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SAFETY OF MY WIFE AND 4 YR OLD SON, IT SCARED ME HALF TO DEATH! *TR
WAS DRIVING ALONG AT ABOUT 30MPH WHEN THE ENGINE CUT DOWN TO WHAT I WOULD LATER FIND OUT WAS "LIMP HOME MODE". THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS WENT ON AND THE VEHICLE BECAME UNRESPONSIVE TO THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD TRAFFIC BEHIND ME AND WAS GOING UP A HILL WHICH I WAS BARELY ABLE TO SPUTTER TO THE TOP OFF BEFORE TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. I TRIED STARTING IT AGAIN AND IT HARD STARTED BUT IDLED FINE AND RAN FINE FOR ABOUT 50 YARDS BEFORE THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. LUCKILY, I WAS ABLE TO ROLL ONTO A NEIGHBORHOOD STREET AND PULL OVER. I EVENTUALLY CHANCED A DRIVE TO THE DEALER AND MADE IT THERE WITHOUT THE VEHICLE FAILING. I WAS LATER TOLD THAT IT WAS A FAILURE OF THE THROTTLE BODY AND THE PART WAS ON BACKORDER FOR 1-2 WEEKS. I SAW THAT THE 2005-2012 ESCAPES ARE BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE NHTSA FOR THIS ISSUE SO I ASSUME BACKORDER WAIT IS BECAUSE THE PART HAS BEEN FAILING WITH FREQUENCY. ALTHOUGH IT DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT, THE SUDDEN CHANGE IN RESPONSIVENESS OF THE VEHICLE AND THE FAILURE TO ACCELERATE COULD HAVE EASILY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT AND/OR BODILY INJURY. AS IT IS, I AM WITHOUT MY VEHICLE FOR 1-2 WEEKS. *TR
