WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAY SPEED THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER. THE ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AND IT HAD NO ACCELERATOR RESPONSE. MANAGED TO PULL OVER ONTO SHOULDER, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE WAITED A MOMENT AND IT RESTARTED AND RAN NORMALLY. WHILE I WAS FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO PULL OVER SAFELY, THIS COULD BE A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AT FIRST IT HAPPENED JUST ONCE OR TWICE MAKING ME THINK. IT WAS JUST BAD GASOLINE OR A FUEL FILTER. OVER THE MONTHS SINCE IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE AND I LEARNED OF THE THROTTLE BODY DEFECT. *TR
TRAVELING ALONG INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH IN THE CENTER LANE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. NOTICE SUDDEN DROP IN POWER AND VEHICLE STARTS COASTING! PRESSING ACCELERATOR ACCOMPLISHES NOTHING. "MONKEY ICON" ICON APPEARS ON DASHBOARD. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS RIDING MY BUMPER AND I WAS ABLE TO MOVE OVER INTO THE RIGHT LANE AND COAST TO THE NEXT EXIT. ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN AS NORMAL, THE TRANSMISSION JUST STOPPED WORKING. *TR
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER. I LOOKED DOWN AND SAW THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT ON. CAR CONTINUED TO COAST AND BEGAN SLOWING DOWN. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO VEHICLES IMMEDIATELY BEHIND ME AND I HAD TIME TO FIND A LOCATION TO PULL OVER. PULLED OVER AND ENGINE BEGAN TO BUCK AND SPUTTER. TURNED OFF IGNITION. WAITED ABOUT 15 SECONDS AND STARTED ENGINE. WRENCH LIGHT WAS GONE. PUT CAR IN GEAR AND EVERYTHING APPEARED FINE. COMPLETED APPROXIMATELY 15 MILES AND GOT TO DESTINATION. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED IN TWO AND A HALF WEEKS. FIRST INCIDENT WAS ON 5/31/13. AFTER FIRST INCIDENT I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND LEARNED ABOUT OTHER SIMILAR INCIDENTS CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE BODY. I WENT TO THE FORD DEALER AND ORDERED A NEW PART. DEALER TOOK THE ORDER AND DENIED KNOWING ANYTHING ABOUT THIS ISSUE BUT ORDERED THE PART FOR ME. THE PART STILL HAS NOT COME IN. AFTER REPEATED PHONE CALLS I WAS TOLD THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER AND MIGHT STILL TAKE A FEW WEEKS TO GET IN. *TR
THE CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN, I PUSHED THE GAS AND THE CAR STARTED TO STALL OUT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OFF THE ROAD AND WHEN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK IT COMPLETELY STOPPED. THE WRENCH ALERT SIGNAL WAS ON AND THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS STUCK CLOSED. *TR
DRIVING APPROX 40MPH WHEN VEHICLE STARTED STALLING. RPM DROPS TO APPROX 1000, GAS PEDAL DOES NOT RESPOND. HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST, TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP BUT "NO CODES WERE FOUND TO SUGGEST A DEFECT." HAVE TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND RESTART WITH IT BEING IN PARK BEFORE STARTS TO RUN AND WRENCH LIGHT TURNS OFF. DROVE TO THE DEALER AFTER THAT LAST INCIDENT ON 6/21, CODE 2111 WAS FOUND TO BE PENDING WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN LOST IF I TURNED THE CAR OFF, FOUND IT TO BE THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. FOR A CAR THAT IS 3 YEARS OLD AND 40K MILES, IT IS DANGEROUS TO HAVE THIS DEFECT AS IF IT HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY YOU ARE STUCK WITH A CHANCE FOR A SEMI-TRUCK TO REAR END YOU. PLEASE ALLOW THIS RECALL FOR THE SAFETY OF OTHERS. *TR
DRIVING IN TOWN AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED. VEHICLE RAN FINE FOR ONLY A FEW BLOCKS AND HAD TO RESTART AGAIN. NEXT DAY THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY GO ABOUT 1 BLOCK BEFORE WE HAD TO RESTART IT. IT NEEDS A NEW ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND NO PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. THERE IS A NATIONAL BACKORDER PER FORD PARTS DEPARTMENT. *TR
ON 6/18/13 DRIVING ON A 45 MPH ROAD SLOWED TO MAKE A TURN AND LOST ALL POWER TO BY 2010 FORD ESCAPE, ALSO THE WRENCH SHOWED UP ON MY DASH. I TURNED IT OFF AND BACK ON AGAIN AND IT RAN FINE. THE NEXT DAY TOOK IT TO MY LOCAL DEALER IN CLARION, PA AND THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. ON 7/1/13 I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM, DRIVING 45 MPH WHEN I EXPERIENCED COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER. THIS TIME THE VEHICLE WAS SPUTTERING, TURNED IT OFF & BACK ON BUT HAD TO GIVE IT GAS TO START. THE WRENCH SHOWED UP AGAIN. CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER IN CLARION, PA AND STATED I HAD RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET & FOUND 21 PAGES OF OTHER PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THE MAJORITY HAVING TO HAVE THE THROTTLE BODY CHANGED. ALSO FOUND THAT NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING THE COMPLAINTS. I DON'T APPRECIATE IT WHEN THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT TAKE THE SEVERITY OF THIS PROBLEM SERIOUSLY. THEY STATED THEY WOULD ORDER PART BUT DIDN'T KNOW WHEN IT WOULD COME IN. I CALLED ANOTHER LOCAL DEALERSHIP & THEY SAID THEY COULD HAVE THE PART IN 3 DAYS. WHAT'S UP WITH THAT? REALLY DON'T LIKE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE SINCE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN IT IS GOING TO OCCUR. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE AND FEEL IT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY FORD. DO WE NEED TO HAVE NUMEROUS PEOPLE GETTING KILLED BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE ABOUT IT? *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE BOUGHT NEW AND TAKEN BACK TO DEALERSHIP AS THE VEHICLE JUMPS FORWARD. DEALERSHIP COULD NOT FIND PROBLEM. WITHIN LAST TWO WEEKS VEHICLE IS LOSING GAS PEDAL POWER WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE DOES NOT STALL. IF YOU APPLY THE GAS THE VEHICLE JUMPS FORWARD. THE COMPUTER CODE IS P2112. VEHICLE WAS SURGING FORWARD WHEN A DOG RAN ACROSS THE ROAD. COULDN'T CONTROL VEHICLE. VERY BUSY ROAD AND TRYING TO GET OUT OF THE WAY. BUMPER HAD TO BE REPAIRED AND CAR IS STILL LOSING POWER AND SURGING WHEN YOU APPLY GAS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED AND OPERATED AS DESIGNED FOR A FEW MILES AT WHICH TIME THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWELVE TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF A MONTH. A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS SCHEDULED WITH A DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
VEHICLE (2010 FORD ESCAPE) TRAVELING AT APPX. 20MPH ON FREEWAY WHEN IT STARTED BUCKING, LOST SOME BUT NOT ALL POWER. PULLED VEHICLE TO SIDE OF FREEWAY, SHUT OFF ENGINE. RESTARTED 30 SECONDS LATER. RESTART WAS DIFFICULT BUT SUCCESSFUL. SUCCESSFULLY DROVE VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR REPAIR. DEALER CLAIMS THIS IS ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. CANNOT REPAIR UNTIL PART ARRIVES IN APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK. VERY SIMILAR BEHAVIOR FROM CAR IN TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS LAST WEEK - BOTH HAPPENED IMMEDIATELY UPON START UP IN MY DRIVEWAY. I SHUT ENGINE OFF EACH TIME AND RESTARTED. RESTART WAS DIFFICULT BUT NOT SUCCESSFUL. SIMILAR INCIDENT 9 MONTHS AGO (SEPT. 2012). VEHICLE TRAVELING AT APPX. 65MPH ON FREEWAY WHEN IT NOTICEABLY JUMPED, IMMEDIATELY LOST MOST BUT NOT ALL POWER. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER COULD NOT REPEAT NOR VERIFY CONCERN IN 4 DAYS / 150 MILES OF TESTING. RESEARCH HAS SHOWN THAT NHTSA IS INVESTIGATING SIMILAR ISSUES ON THIS AND OTHER MODEL YEAR FORD ESCAPES. MY EXPERIENCE SOUNDS VERY SIMILAR TO COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER DRIVERS. *TR
VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES. LOSES POWER WITH NO ACCELERATION WHEN FEEDING GAS. WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON, INDICATES THROTTLE BODY ISSUE. VEHICLE NEEDS TO BE RESTARTED. TOOK TO THE SHOP AFTER 3 INCIDENCES. MECHANICS TELL ME THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY HAS FAILED. PARTS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER DUE TO HIGH FREQUENCY OF INCIDENCES. PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL! *TR
DRIVING AROUND 65MPH AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SHUTS OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, LOSS OF ALL POWER ALL I COULD DO WAS TRY TO MAKE MY WAY FROM THE FAST LANE OVER TO THE SHOULDER, DRIFTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE CAR OFF AND IT RESTARTED AFTER A FEW MINUTES AND DROVE FINE ALL THE WAY HOME, A FEW DAYS LATER IT DID THE SAME THING, CUT OFF WHILE DOING AROUND 60MPH AGAIN IN THE FAST LANE I HAD TO TRY AND GET OVER THROUGH 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC WITH CARS BLOWING BY ME AT OVER 80MPH TO GET TO THE SHOULDER, THIS IS GOING TO GET SOMEONE KILLED. I CALLED FORD AND THEY KNOW OF THE ISSUE, SEEMS THE ISSUE IS SO BAD THE PART THATS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM (THE THROTTLE BODY) IS ON BACK ORDER, YOU HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATING SINCE FEB. WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED YET? *TR
WHILE DRIVING OUR ESCAPE, YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE AND THERE IS NOTHING THERE. YOU CAN PUSH THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND THE ENGINE DOES NOT RESPOND. THIS HAS HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN ABOUT 6 DAY PERIOD. WE HAVE HAD TO PULL OUR VEHICLE TO SIDE OF THE ROAD/HIGHWAY AND SHUT IT OFF AND THEN RESTART IT. IT DOES STARTS WORKING AGAIN BUT WE DON'T KNOW WHEN IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. WE TOOK IT TO HARROLD ZEIGLERS IN KALAMAZOO MICHIGAN, AND THEY TOLD US IT WAS A ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY AND THERE WAS 8013 OF THEM ON BACK ORDER AND NO ETA ON WHEN THEY WILL BE IN. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME STORY.[XXX], AND [XXX] WERE THE FIRST TO AGENTS I SPOKE WITH. I TOLD THEM THAT THEIR ANSWERS WERE NOT GOOD ENOUGH AND I WANTED TO SPEAK TO THEIR MANAGER. HE CALLED ME BACK 2 HOURS LATER(TERRY BADGE#62889) AND HE TOLD ME THEY WERE ALREADY AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND THEY COULD NOT HELP ME BECAUSE I HAD TOO MANY MILES ON MY ESCAPE(75000) WHICH I TOLD HIM I WANTED TO SPEAK TO HIS SUPERVISOR. HE TOLD ME HIS BOSS WOULD GIVE ME THE SAME ANSWER. I ASKED HIM IF THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY SAFETY COMMISSION WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND HE SAID THEY WERE AND THAT MY ISSUE AND CONVERSATION WOULD ALSO BE REPORTED. I AM NOT SURE WHY THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE AS THERE ARE CURRENTLY 8013 ON BACK ORDER. I WONDER HOW MANY HAVE ALREADY BEEN REPLACED. THIS ISSUE COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT FOR SOMEONE ELSE OR MY WIFE AS SHE IS THE DRIVER OF OUR ESCAPE. WE ARE CURRENTLY WITHOUT A VEHICLE TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF THIS. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. I HAD A PROBLEM WITH ACCELERATION WHERE THE ESCAPE WOULD COUGH AND BUCK WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. AT THAT TIME ( A COUPLE OF WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE), I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY SENT IT FOR A "SOFTWARE UPDATE". IT DIDN'T BUCK CONTINUALLY AFTER THAT, BUT WAS STILL GUTLESS AND SLOW. YESTERDAY 8/2/2013, I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND THE CAR JUST WOULDN'T GO. ENGINE STILL RUNNING, BUT NO POWER TO PROPEL FORWARD. "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON DASH AND I COASTED TO REPAIR GARAGE AT CORNER. I RESTARTED ENGINE AND LIGHT WENT AWAY. GARAGE EMPLOYEES RECOMMENDED I KEEP DRIVING TO SEE IF LIGHT COMES BACK ON. I CONTINUED ON MY WAY AND WAS TURNING RIGHT AND AS I MADE THE TURN, THE ESCAPE COMPLETELY LOST POWER. THANKFULLY I HAD A SHOULDER TO COAST ON TO OR I WOULD HAVE BEEN HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS TIME, "WRENCH" LIGHT AND "ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. I HAD TO BE TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE REPAIR WAS MADE THERE. THE DIAGNOSIS AND CORRECTION WAS FOR A THROTTLE BODY. FROM MY REPAIR SLIP IT SAYS "10FOZ RETRIEVED CODES P2111/P2112 - FAULTY AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM ONLINE, I SEE IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE WITH OTHERS. MINE WAS FIXED UNDER THE WARRANTY. I AM REPORTING THE PROBLEM JUST IN CASE YOU ARE KEEPING RECORDS OF HOW MANY FORD ESCAPES HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM. *TR
MY VEHICLE LOSES ALL POWER WHILE PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD IT DIAGNOSED WITH PROBLEM CODE P2111. A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION TO BE PUT IN WHILE OPERATING A VEHICLE. THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM IS TO STOP THE ENGINE, THEN RESTART. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT ABOUT 70 MPH. SUDDENLY, WITHOUT NOTICE THE CAR BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN AND DEPRESSING ACCELERATED DID NOTHING. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE CAR CONTINUED TO IDLE ROUGHLY WITH THE WRENCH INDICATOR LIGHT ON. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS. I STARTED THE CAR AND ENGINE RAN SOMEWHAT NORMALLY. SAME ISSUE OCCURRED ON RETURN TRIP A FEW HOURS LATER. TOOK TO FORD DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED AS NEEDED THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. SAID THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND WOULD PROBABLY TAKE 4 WEEKS TO GET IT. THIS ISSUE COULD RESULT IN VERY SERIOUS INJURY IF IT OCCURS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS. *TR
MADE TURN INTO TRAFFIC, SPEED WAS ABOUT 30 MPH. WENT TO ACCELERATE, NO POWER. ENGINE RPMS DROPPED. STEPPED ON GAS PEDAL TO ACCELERATE . NO RESPONSE. DRIFTED OVER TO SIDE OF ROAD. PLACED INTO NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO INCREASE RPMS. NO RESPONSE. TURNED OFF IGNITION TO CALL FOR AID AS THE ROADWAY WAS BUSY, THEN TRIED TO RESTART CAR . CAR STARTED NORMALLY. RPMS RESUMED NORMAL. PLACED CAR INTO DRIVE AND DROVE OFF NORMALLY. HAPPENED AGAIN ON THREE DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. HAPPENED THE OTHER NIGHT THREE TIMES. DEEMED THE CAR UNSAFE TO DRIVE. WAITING FOR AN APPOINTMENT TO GET REPAIRED. ON LINE FORUMS INDICATE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE, WHETHER IT BE A SENSOR OR COMMUNICATION WITH THE ON BOARD COMPUTED. *TR

THE WRENCH WARNING SYMBOL ILLUMINATED AT THE TIME OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE ENGINE WAS THEN TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, AS THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,600. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
EXPERIENCED REPEATED STALLING OF ENGINE WHILE GOING 40+ MILES PER HOUR. ENGINE WOULD RUN FOR APPROX. ONE BLOCK THEN STALL. VEHICLE WENT TO LIMP MODE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE WAS REPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY STATED THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 43,000. THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, SHE SUDDENLY FELT THE VEHICLE LOOSE POWER EVEN THOUGH SHE WAS PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR. THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE DASH.
ON SEVERAL INTERMITTENT OCCASIONS BEGINNING ON JUNE 15, 2013 MY FORD ESCAPE WOULD JERK FORWARD AND LOSE POWER (EVEN ON THE FREEWAY). SOMETIMES I AM ABLE TO MOVE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND OTHERS IT DIES BEFORE I CAN MOVE IT OUT OF THE INTERSECTION OR STREET. THIS HAS HAPPENED WHEN ME AND MY TWO CHILDREN WERE IN THE CAR WHICH IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND WRENCH ILLUMINATES. THIS PROBLEM IS SPONTANEOUS AND CAN DRIVE FOR SEVERAL MILES WITHOUT AN INCIDENT AND THEN OCCURS OUT OF NOWHERE AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE MECHANIC HE INFORMED ME THAT THE CODE P2112 SHOWED THAT MY THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS IT WAS GETTING STUCK CLOSED. I HAVE HEARD THAT SEVERAL OTHER FORD VEHICLES ARE HAVING SIMILAR ISSUES AND THIS NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED ASAP. AFTER SPENDING $370 TO FIX THE PROBLEM I FEEL THAT THIS ISSUE COULD HAVE BEEN RESOLVED BEFOREHAND. PLEASE PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING TO OTHER FAMILIES. *TR

THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON, THE GAS PEDAL WAS NON-RESPONSIVE AND THE ENGINE IDLED EXTREMELY ROUGH AT A LOW RPM. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD - NEARLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. UNSURE WHAT TO DO I LOOKED IN THE MANUAL AND SAW THAT THE WRENCH LIGHT MEANT POWERTRAIN FAILURE AND IT ADVISED TO CONTACT DEALER. I HAD SHUT THE CAR OFF, BUT DECIDED TO TRY AND MOVE IT FARTHER OFF THE ROAD SO I STARTED IT AGAIN. THE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON AND THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING SMOOTHLY. I DECIDED TO ATTEMPT TO GET CLOSER TO HOME AND DROVE ABOUT 5 MILES BEFORE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE, SO I WAS ABLE TO PULL RIGHT OFF THE ROAD. THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIME DURING A 20 MILE TRIP. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE. I COULD HAVE CAUSED A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT TONIGHT AND THERE IS NO WARNING THAT THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN. DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY 55-60 MPH, THE ENGINE SEEMED TO SHAKE/JUMP AND THE THE CARE LOST ALL ACCELERATION POWER. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON, I COASTED OFF THE HIGHWAY ONTO THE SHOULDER, TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED. IT RAN FINE FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN DID IT AGAIN. IT HAPPENED A TOTAL OF 5 TIMES GETTING IT TO THE DEALER ABOUT 12-15 MILES AWAY. DEALERSHIP HAS REPORTED IT IS THE THROTTLE BOX AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE PART IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER OF 1 TO 3 WEEKS! *TR
WAS DRIVING ABOUT 60MPH ON IN MOUNTAINS OF MARYLAND, 3HRS FROM HOME WHEN VEHICLE STARTED TO HESITATE AND THEN I HAD NO POWER AT ALL EVEN THOUGH I WAS DEPRESSING PEDAL. SEEMED TO BE IDLING AND COASTING. WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED....PULLED OVER TO EMERG LANE QUITE SHAKEN UP VEHICLE WAS IDLING VARY ROUGH. WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. SHUT OFF VEHICLE, WAITED ABOUT 10MIN. THEN RESTARTED LIGHT WAS OFF. BOOK IDICATED POWERTRAIN OR THROTTLE ISSUE. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE FOR ABOUT 20-30 MINUTES THEN SAME THING OCCURED. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 4 TIMES. MADE IT TO A DEALER AND HAD SOMEONE PICK ME UP. 38000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE - ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR THIS PART TO FAIL. HAD REGULAER MAINTANANCE AND EVEN HAD THROTTLE BODY CLEANED AND REPROGRAM DONE AS PART OF A TECHNICAIN BULLETIN. PART HAS BEEN BACK ORDERED FOR 3 WEEKS. STILL NO VEHICLE. THERE IS A DEFINITE VEHICLE SAFETY ISSUE HERE. SOMEBODY IS GOING TO BE KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT BY LOSING ALL POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. FOR A COUPLE WEEKS PREVIOUS TO THE FINAL INCIDENT, WHILE COMING TO A STOP, THE CAR WOULD STUTTER THEN TURN OFF...ONE TIME WHILE DRIVING 80MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE FINAL TIME I WAS PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION AND THE CAR STARTED STUTTERING, THEN SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION WITH JUST ENOUGH POWER TO GET TO A TURN-OFF. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE YELLOW WRENCH. THE CAR WOULD NOT START FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MIN. I WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT AROUND THE CORNER FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND PUSHED IT THE REMAINING WAY. FORD IS SAYING IT IS A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE AND THE PART IS ON AN EMERGENCY NATIONWIDE BACKORDER WHICH MAY TAKE 3 WEEKS TO 6 MONTHS TO GET THE PART...AND IT'S NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS CONSIDERED 'NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR,' ACCORDING TO FORD. WE WHERE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON I675 TRAVELING AT 70 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE SPEED WENT INTO LIMP MOLD. *TR
DRIVING ON I-95 NORTH....AT 60 MPH....WHEN THE ENGINE ALMOST COMPLETELY STALLED OUT WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR SPEED DROPPED DOWN TO 5-7MPH...AND THE CAR STARTED SHAKING AND THE ENGINE BEGAN ROUGH SURGING. I BARELY MISSED BEING HIT BY A LARGE SEMI TRUCK AS I INCHED THE CAR OVER TO THE CURB. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR OFF THE EXPRESSWAY (GOING ABOUT 5 MPH) AT THE NEXT EXIT AND THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF. THE WRENCH LIGHT ALSO APPEARED. I TURNED THE CAR OFF .I CALLED MY HUSBAND, WHO TOLD ME TO SEE IF I COULD RESTART THE CAR AFTER 15 MINUTES. IT STARTED BACK UP AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THE CAR WORKED OKAY FOR 3 MORE WEEKS AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO ME AGAIN .....AND ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR HOME, I HAVE PARKED THE CAR AND WILL NO LONGER USE IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT WOULD NOT ADD ANY RPMS WHEN APPLYING THE ACCELERATOR. THE ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO KEEP THE VEHICLE MOVING AT AN IDLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. TOP SPEED WAS ONLY ABOUT 5 MPH. VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. ABOUT ONE MONTH LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING ON ROADWAY APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. SAME SYMPTOMS WITH SAME RESULTS. SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID REPLACE THE THROTTLE HOUSING THIS TIME. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 25MPH ON A SURFACE ROAD, WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER, AND MY SPEED DROPPED TO 5MPH ("LIMP MODE"). I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE, AND THEN RESTARTED THE ENGINE AFTER A MINUTE. IT SEEMED TO RUN NORMALLY. I TOOK IT IN TO A SHOP FOR INSPECTION, AND THEY COULDN'T IDENTIFY THE CAUSE. HOWEVER ABOUT 1 MONTH LATER, THE EXACT SAME SITUATION REOCCURRED, SO I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THEY SAID IT WAS DUE TO A BAD THROTTLE BODY. IT TOOK 3 WEEKS FOR THEM TO GET THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH WAS APPARENTLY BACKORDERED, PROBABLY BECAUSE SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAD TO REPLACE THEIR THROTTLE BODIES AS WELL. I HAD TO PAY FOR THIS REPAIR OUT OF POCKET. IT WOULD SEEM THIS DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ISSUE IS WIDESPREAD AMONG CERTAIN FORD MODELS, INCLUDING THE ESCAPE. THIS IS A VERY UNSAFE DEFECT, AND THIS PART SHOULD BE RECALLED TO PREVENT ANY ACCIDENTS FROM OCCURRING. I'M VERY UPSET THAT DESPITE THIS ISSUE HAVING BEEN KNOWN ABOUT SINCE LATE 2011/EARLY 2012, I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED BY FORD AND HAD TO FIND OUT THE HARD WAY, WITH MY CAR LOSING POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF MOVING TRAFFIC. ON TOP OF THAT, BECAUSE THE CAR WAS A FEW MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY, I WAS FORCED TO PAY $670 OUT OF POCKET TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED.
I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, 60 MPH, WHEN THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. ON THE SAME DAY, ON THE DRIVE FROM HOME FROM WORK, THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED, BUT THIS TIME AT ABOUT 35 MPH IN TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS RIGHT ON MY BUMPER AT THE TIME. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WARNING WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT JUST SUDDENLY LOSES POWER. *TR
DURING HIGHWAY DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION, STALLING, AND THE THROTTLE/POWER TRAIN INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS FORCED TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE ON THE ROAD, TURN OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTART. THE CARE DROVE FOR APPROXIMATELY 3 MORE MILES AND THEN THE ISSUE RECURRED. I IMMEDIATELY PROCEEDED TO MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP (DEALERSHIP WHERE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED). DURING THAT TRIP, THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ADVISED BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THIS WAS DUE TO A FAULTY/FAILED THROTTLE BODY BUT THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER INDEFINITELY WITH NO WORD FROM FORD AS TO WHEN THEY WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I WAS ADVISED TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN ITS CURRENT STATE UNTIL SUCH TIME AS THE PART WAS AVAILABLE. *TR

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AFTER I STARTED IT THE SECOND TIME AND I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO AN AUTO SHOP WITHOUT ANOTHER INCIDENT. THE AUTO SHOP STILL HAS MY CAR AND CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE ISSUE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY AND SUDDENLY STARTED LOSING SPEED, LIKE THERE WAS NO GAS GETTING IN, AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WENT ON. I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF. IT STARTED UP AGAIN AND I WAS ABLE TO GET BACK HOME AND APPREHENSIVELY DROVE IT TO THE DEALER 2 DAYS LATER. IT TOOK THEM 2 DAYS TO FIGURE IT OUT BUT THEY SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT WAS BACK ORDERED. THEY GAVE ME NO TIME FRAME ON WHEN I MIGHT EXPECT THE PART IN SO AT THE MOMENT IT'S STILL AT THE DEALER. I'M LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE ANOTHER CAR TO USE BUT I DOUBT THEY'LL GIVE ME A LOANER CAR FOR WEEKS AND WEEKS OR HOWEVER LONG IT TAKES TO GET THE PART IN. (HAD IT CHECKED, NOTHING FOUND) APPROX 3 WEEKS LATER, JUNE 27, I WAS GOING DOWN THE FREEWAY APPROX 65MPH GETTING READY TO EXIT AND THE CAR COMPLETELY WENT DEAD (FORTUNATELY I COULD PULL OVER SO I DID NOT GET HIT). I STOPPED PUT IT IN PARK, WAITED A MINUTE AND THEN IT STARTED RIGHT UP AGAIN. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER THE FOLLOWING MORNING, JUNE 28, AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDED A NEW ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY WHICH IS ON BACK ORDER 3-4 WEEKS! I WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT THE CAR WAS REALLY TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE SO THEY RECOMMENDED THAT I TRY NOT TO DRIVE IT TILL THE PART COMES IN!! GOOD IF YOU HAVE 2 VEHICLES!! *TR
ON 06/12/2013 WHILE DRIVING ON A 2 LANE HIGHWAY THE ENGINE WENT INTO THE "LIMP" MODE WITH ROUGH IDLE AND NO POWER. THE WRENCH LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CAME ON. WE WERE ABLE TO STOP ON A SIDE STREET TO CHECK THE VEHICLE OUT. AFTER RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, IT RAN FINE FOR SEVERAL DAYS, THEN REPEATED THE SAME "LIMP" MODE TWICE IN A FEW MILES WITH A SHUT DOWN AND RESTART OF THE ENGINE CLEARING THE SYMPTOM. TODAY 07/04/2013 ON A 20 MILE TRIP THE VEHICLE WENT INTO THE "LIMP" MODE 6 DIFFERENT TIMES. A COUPLE OF THESE TIMES WERE ON A BUSY 2 LANE ROAD WITH NO SHOULDER ALMOST RESULTING IN BEING HIT IN THE REAR. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 93500 MILES ON IT AND WILL BE PARKED UNTIL REPAIRS CAN BE MADE. FROM READING OTHER COMPLAINTS THIS ALSO SOUNDS LIKE A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING. WE WERE FORTUNATE NOT TO BE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON EACH OF THESE STALLS. I URGE THAT CONTINUED INVESTIGATION GO INTO THIS PROBLEM SO THAT IF IT IS THE ISSUE WITH OTHER VEHICLES THAT CAUSES THE STALLS THESE VEHICLES CAN BE RECALLED AND THE ISSUE CORRECTED BEFORE SOMEONE IS INVOLVED IN AN INJURY OR WORSE ACCIDENT. *TR

A VEH WAS NOT AVAILABLE FROM THE DEALERSHIP AND I HAD TO RENT A VEHICLE. I WAS TOLD TO KEEP THE RENTAL FOR AT LEAST TWO DAYS. I HAD THE RENTAL VEHICLE FOR A WEEK AND THE PART WAS STILL NOT AVAILABLE. WE WERE THEN ABLE TO BORROW A VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT THE PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY DID NOT KNOW WHEN IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE. MY HUSBAND STARTED CALLING OTHER LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS ON 06/25/13 AND WAS ABLE TO LOCATE THE PART FOR THE VEH. WE RECEIVED A CALL ON 06/26/13 THAT OUR VEH WAS REPAIRED. WE WERE NOT CHARGED FOR THE REPAIR BUT WE ARE OUT OF $400 FOR A RENTAL VEHICLE. THIS WILL BE MY LAST FORD PURCHASE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME GOING AROUND 50 MPH UPHILL WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR DONE A BIG LURCH AND BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. THANKFULLY I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER. WELL GUESS WHAT ITS NOW 7-20-13 AND IT STILL HAS NOT COME IN. NOT ONLY AM I PISSED BUT WHEN I EMAILED FORD MOTOR COMPANY ABOUT MY CONCERN AND PROBLEM, THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME NOTHING USEFUL, ONLY THAT THERE WERE NO OPEN RECALLS OR WARRANTIES OPEN FOR MY VEHICLE. I TOLD A RECALL NEEDS TO BE ISSUED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. SO MANY OF THESE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ WERE OF PEOPLE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE. I TRAVELED APPROXIMATELY 2.5 MILES WHEN THE CAR STALLED, STOPPED OPERATING AND I HAD NO POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN. THE AIR CONDITIONER AND RADIO STILL WORKED SO I STILL HAD ELECTRICAL POWER. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO A STOP BUT IT WAS DANGEROUS TRAFFIC. I TURNED EVERYTHING OFF AND THE CAR RESTARTED. IT WAS INITIALLY SLUGGISH BUT I TRAVELED THE NEXT 3 MILES HOME. DROVE IT TO DEALERSHIP. DEALER TEST DROVE IT AND IT STALLED AGAIN. DEALER ANALYZED IT AND SAID THE CAR HAD A BAD THROTTLE BODY. NEW PART WILL TAKE A MONTH TO GET AND I CAN'T DRIVE CAR. *TR
THE FIRST TIME THE SUV COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION AT 45MPH. IT WAS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I WAS ON A BRIDGE & THE EMERGENCY LANE WAS SO NARROW THAT TRAFFIC WAS WITHIN INCHES OF ME. I SAT FOR A WHILE AND THEN RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. I FEEL FORTUNATE TO HAVE MADE IT OFF THE BRIDGE WITHOUT BEING IN AN ACCIDENT. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MY DEALERSHIP, BUT BEFORE MY APPOINTMENT DATE I HAD TO MAKE AN EXTENDED TRIP OUT-OF-STATE. THE SECOND TIME IT OCCURRED WAS EVEN WORSE. IT OCCURRED EXACTLY ONE WEEK LATER. I WAS TAKING MY HUSBAND TO THE ATLANTA AIRPORT. LESS THAN 40 MILES OF THE AIRPORT AND WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, IT COMPLETELY LOST ACCELERATION AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WE SAT FOR A SHORT WHILE. I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. WE TOOK THE NEXT EXIT AND BARELY MADE IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. AFTER SITTING IN A HOTEL FOR THREE DAYS, WE FINALLY LEARNED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY PART IS NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE! AND TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE, THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN LAGRANGE REFUSES TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION AND EXPECTS US TO FOOT THE BILL FOR A 3 WEEK OR LONGER RENTAL CAR (THE PART WILL NOT BE RELEASED UNTIL JULY 2). THE DEALERSHIP WILL NOT EVEN TELL US WHEN WE CAN EXPECT OUR VEHICLE TO BE FIXED! AND THEY EXPECT US TO PAY FOR LABOR AND THE DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY, TOO! THIS DEFECTIVE PART IS GOING TO COST US: AN AIRLINE CANCELLATION FEE - $100; 2 NIGHTS OF NON-REFUNDABLE HOTEL ROOMS (I WAS CONTINUING ON FROM ATLANTA TO VISIT A RELATIVE) - $130; 2 ADDITIONAL NIGHTS OF HOTEL IN LAGRANGE $140; RENTAL CAR - $588 (AND WILL BE HIGHER, I'M AFRAID); 2 ADDITIONAL TANKS OF GAS $90 (I HAVE TO RETURN THE RENTAL CAR TO GA FROM FL); THE REPAIR & PART - $500-$600. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR AN OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PART AND WHY A DEALERSHIP WOULD BE SO UNWILLING TO PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION TO US FOR A PROBLEM THAT WE DIDN'T CREATE. *TR
MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE IS GOING INTO LIMP MODE WHILE DRIVING. IT JUST STOPS RESPONDING TO THE ACCELERATOR AND LIMPS ALONG UNTIL I CAN PULL OFF THE ROAD AND TURN THE CAR OFF. IN THE BEGINNING, I COULD START THE CAR BACK UP AND DRIVE HOME. BUT IT IS BEGINNING TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN AND NOW I CANNOT DRIVE IT AT ALL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE CAR SUDDENLY JERKED AND I NO LONGER COULD ACCELERATE AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD BEGAN FLASHING. FORTUNATELY, I WAS ABLE TO GET ON TO THE SHOULDER AND CALL A TOW TRUCK. IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. PER THE DEALER WHERE MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO, THE PART NEEDED WAS ON FORD'S NATIONAL BACKORDER LIST AND THEY DID NOT KNOW WHEN THE PART WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. IT TOOK 5 WEEKS TO GET THE PART. IT HAS ONLY BEEN ABOUT 7 WEEKS AND MY CAR DID THE SAME JERK ON THE EXPRESSWAY AGAIN TODAY. I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE DRIVING TO WORK AS NO SERVICE LIGHTS IGNITED ON THE DASHBOARD, BUT I WILL BE TAKING MY VEHICLE IN TO GET CHECKED AGAIN. *JB
WHILE DRIVING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND CAR WONT ACCELORATE FOR ME AS HARD AS I PRESS ACCELORATER DID NOT MAKE DIFFERENCE JUST WOULDN'T GO ANY FASTER. IF I WAS ON HIGHWAY OR SOMEONE BEHIND ME IT SURE WOULD BE MAJOR PROBLEM.
I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT PREPARING TO TURN RIGHT. WHILE AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE VEHICLE JOLTED FORWARD MOMENTARILY AND AGAIN CAME TO A STOP. I TURNED RIGHT AND IMMEDIATELY MY ACCELERATOR FAILED AND THE CAR WOULD ONLY MOVE FORWARD AT A SPEED LESS THAN 5 MILES PER HOUR. I COASTED INTO A PARKING LOT WHERE I TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT. IT ACCELERATED NORMALLY FOR A MOMENT BEFORE FAILING AGAIN. THE WARNING LIGHT THAT APPEARED WAS CORRELATED WITH THE POWER TRAIN, PER THE VEHICLE'S INSTRUCTION MANUAL. WHEN INSPECTED BY A FORD DEALERSHIP, THE MECHANIC SAID THE THROTTLE SYSTEM HAD FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALL INSPECTIONS AND SERVICES RELATED TO THE VEHICLE WERE UP-TO-DATE AND THERE WERE NO OTHER PROBLEMS DETECTED. NO ONE WAS INJURED. *TR
THREE TIME WITHIN 5 MILES THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AND GIVING IT MORE GAS DID NOTHING. I WOULD HAVE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HOPE NO ONE HIT ME IN TRAFFIC. I TOOK THE CAR TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE THROTTLE BODY WAS FAULTY. *TR
IT WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR AND I WAS TOLD THEY HAVE ZERO THROTTLE BODIES FOR THIS CAR FOR 4 TO 6 MONTHS MAYBE LONGER. AND IN RESEARCHING THIS THERE ARE ALOT OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I'M HAVING AND THEY DON'T SEEM TO CARE ABOUT RESOLVING THE ISSUE. JUST KEEP MAKING YOUR PAYMENTS ON THE CAR AND RENT YOU ANOTHER SO YOU CAN GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK TO PAY FOR IT. EVEN THO I HAVE WARRANTY COVERAGE STILL CANNOT GET A LOANER CAR TILL THEY CAN GET THE PARTS TO FIX THIS THING. *TR
