DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 60 MPH, VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE WHILE ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LANES. AGAIN ON 6/12, ACCELERATED FROM A STOP LIGHT, WITHOUT WARNING THE CAR IS UNABLE TO CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE AND STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. TURNED CAR OFF, TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN, WAS ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE INTERSECTION AND PULL OVER TO THE RIGHT HAND LANE BEFORE IT STOPPED ACCELERATING AGAIN. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP THEY FOUND THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN IDLE ROUGHLY AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND RESTARTED BEFORE RESUMING NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TEN OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT NO CAUSE FOR FAILURE WAS FOUND. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 63,000. UPDATED 10/29/13*CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED OR DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 45,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE ENTERING A FREEWAY AT 40MPH THE CAR STALLED,THANKFULLY THERE WAS A SHOULDER TO PULL ON TO OTHERWISE WE WOULD'VE BEEN REAR ENDED. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT DIFFERING SPEEDS AS WELL. THE WRENCH LIGHT IN THE DASH COMES ON AND THE VEHICLE STALLS. RESTARTING VEHICLE WILL USUALLY RESUME WITH NO ISSUES. NO CODES ARE STORED SO DEALER CAN'T FIND PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED 10X'S AT LEAST. I'M SCARED TO LET MY WIFE OR DAUGHTER DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. NO SIGNS GIVEN THAT IT WILL STALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONTACT REMOVED THE AIR FILTER AND THEN REPLACED IT. THE VEHICLE RESUMED AS NORMAL FOR A SHORT DISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TROUBLE CODE DETECTED A FAULTY THROTTLE ACTUATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. DRIVING ON 3 LANE HIGHWAY IN MIDDLE LANE AT APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH SLIGHTLY UP HILL AND ENGINE COMPLETELY LOST POWER. I PULLED OFF TO THE SHOULDER. ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING. CAR HAD NO REAL POWER BUT WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE AT ABOUT 5 MPH FOR A FEW HUNDRED FEET UP EXIT RAMP TO A GRAVEL AREA WHERE I STOPPED. I NOTICED THE YELLOW WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON IN THE LOWER LEFT CORNER OF THE DASH. TURNED OFF ENGINE UNSURE OF WHAT TO DO. AT THE TIME I WAS ABOUT 90 MILES FROM HOME SO I TRIED TO START THE ENGINE AGAIN. ENGINE STARTED RIGHT UP. POWER WAS BACK. CONTINUED TO DRIVE ANOTHER 90 MILES WITH NO ISSUE. DESCRIPTIONS ON THE INTERNET TALK ABOUT A FUEL THROTTLE BODY ISSUE WHICH HAS SYMPTOMS THAT MATCH WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS VEHICLE. STOPPED AT FORD DEALER AND ORDERED NEW THROTTLE BODY. SERVICE DEPARTMENT ACTED LIKE THEY NEVER HEARD OF THE ISSUE ALTHOUGH IT IS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. WAITING FOR PART 9E926 TO ARRIVE TO INSTALL. CAR HAS HAD ISSUES IN THE PAST MONTH WHERE IT SPUTTERS A BIT PULLING OUT FROM A STOP SIGN AND HAS REVVED UP TO ABOUT 1500 RPM WHEN OUT OF GEAR RIGHT AFTER STARTING. *TR
BOUGHT 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED IN DECEMBER. PURCHASED A $2000 EXTENDED BUMPER TO BUMPER FROM EASY CARE. PUT ABOUT 1200 MILES ON THE VEHICLE BEFORE IT STARTED TURNING OFF AT RANDOM. FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS AT AN INTERSECTION WHERE I LOST THROTTLE RESPONSE TOTALLY AND ALMOST GOT T BONED BY A COAL TRUCK. IT DID IT 5 MORE TIMES AS I WAS JUST TRYING TO GET IT HOME. TOOK IT TO FREEDOM FORD IN EBENSBURG PA FOR WARRANTY WORK AND THEY FOUND A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER AND MY WARRANTY COMPANY REFUSED TO PAY ANYTHING FOR THE REPAIR AND THE PART IS BACK ORDERED UNTIL JULY 16TH. NOW I AM PAYING ALMOST $400 A MONTH FOR A FORD ESCAPE WITH ONLY 31000 MILES THAT I DON'T HAVE. AND IT WILL BE SITTING AT THE DEALER FOR 6 MORE WEEKS. *TR
1ST TIME: AT TRAFFIC LIGHT MAKING A LEFT. LIGHT CHANGED, HIT THE GAS, CAR WENT FORWARDS THEN LOST POWER, BRAKES AND STEERING WORKED HAD TO COAST THROUGH THE LIGHT TO THE SHOULDER, IDLING ROUGH. WRENCH SYMBOL ON DASH WAS LIT. TURNED CAR OFF, CHECKED MANUAL, WRENCH SYMBOL NOT IN MANUAL. TURNED CAR BACK ON AND RAN FINE. 2ND TIME, 300 MILES LATER. DRIVING WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER, DROPPED TO IDLE WHILE DRIVING, BRAKES AND STEERING WORKED. COASTED TO SIDE OF THE ROAD, WRENCH SYMBOL WAS LIT ON THE DASH. IDLING ROUGH. RAN A VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT AND IT SHOWED: URGENT POWERTRAIN MALFUNCTION / REDUCED POWER TURNED OFF CAR, LET SIT FOR A MINUTE, RESTARTED AND DROVE FINE. TOOK CAR TO DEALERS, STATES ITS THE THROTTLE BODY, ON NATIONAL BACKORDER WITH NO IDEA ON AVAILABILITY. *TR
THE VEHICLE JUST DIES AS THOUGH IT RAN OUT OF GAS. THE VEHICLE STAYS RUNNING, DOES NOT LOOSE THE POWER TO RADIO OR LIGHTS ETC, BUT DIES AS IF OUT OF GAS. I PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND IT IDLES VERY ROUGH. PLACE IN PARK, TURN THE KEY TO THE OFF POSITION AND RESTART NO PROBLEMS. HOWEVER THE VEHICLE NOW DOES IT ON THE HIGHWAY WHILE TRAVELING AT 80 MILES PER HOUR. THERE OBVIOUSLY IS SOME THING WRONG WITH THIS....A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AT 60 MPH AND THE POWER WENT OUT. THE CAR JUST COASTED. STEERING CONTINUED TO WORK. I PULLED OVER TO THE MEDIAN, PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND RESTARTED THE CAR. THE CAR STARTED BACK UP AND WORKED FINE AFTER THAT. *TR
TOOK OFF FROM STOP LIGHT, MADE A LEFT TURN AND WHILE IN MIDDLE OF TURN, FELT LOSS OF POWER, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I LOOKED AT DASH AND NOTICED WHAT LOOKED LIKE A BATTERY SYMBOL IN RED AND THE OIL SYMBOL IN RED. COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD. TURNED IGNITION TO OFF POSITION, WAITED A SECOND OR TWO AND TURNED BACK ON. VEHICLE STARTED RIGHT BACK UP AND I CONTINUED ON MY WAY. *TR
THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE ON HIGHWAY AT 65MPH. ENGINE DID NOT STOP RUNNING COMPLETELY BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO. HAD TO PULL OVER, TURN VEHICLE OFF AND RESTART. DID THIS 6 SEPARATE TIMES 3 ON 5/30 AND 3 ON 5/31/13. THIS HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS A COMMON PROBLEM BY REPAIR SHOP AS FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. *TR
DRIVING ON HIGHWAY, AT 65 MPH. CAR LOSES POWER AND HAVE TO COST TO A STOP. VERY DANGEROUS SITUATIONS TRYING TO CROSS 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO SHOULDER OF HIGHWAY AND STOP SAFELY. THIS HAPPENED ONCE ON 4/26/13, TOOK TO DEALERSHIP, THEY SAID NOTHING WRONG. CONTINUED TO DRIVE UNTIL HAPPENED AGAIN. HAPPENED ON 5/30 AND 5/31 REPEATEDLY UNTIL GOT THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP. REPAIR SHOP HAS HAD THE VEHICLE FOR 10 DAYS DUE TO PART NOT AVAILABLE. PART IS NOT AVAILABLE BECAUSE THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR FORD AND THESE VEHICLES. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED! PLEASE DO SOMETHING! *TR
VEHICLE STALLED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING TURNS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE IT WOULD OCCASIONALLY GO INTO A LIMP MODE CAUSING ME TO PULL OVER ON THE HIGHWAY AND TURN OFF THE CAR AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART. THERE IS NO TELLING WHEN IT WOULD HAPPEN AS IT WAS INTERMITTENT. *TR
WHILE I WAS DRIVING, THE CAR STARTED STALLING : THE SPEED INDICATOR STARTED COMING DOWN AND EVEN PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR, THERE WAS NO PICK UP AND THE WRENCH SIGN LIT UP INDICATING THE POWER TRAIN DEFECT.I MOVED THE CAR TO THE SHOULDER AND WAITED FOR SOME ASSISTANCE. I MECHANIC FRIEND OF MINE CAME AFTER ABOUT 45 MIN. HE STARTED THE CAR AND THE WRENCH SIGN WAS NO LONGER THERE. RODE THE CAR FOR ABOUT 10 MILES TO GET TO MY HOUSE. RAN SOME ERRANDS (ABOUT 20 ROUND TRIP MILES) LATER AND THE CAR RODE FINE. ON 5/30/2013 MORNING (TODAY) ON MY WAY TO WORK, THE TRUCK STALLED AGAIN WITH THE LIT UP WRENCH SIGN. PULLED ON TO THE SHOULDER, TURNED OFF ENGINE AND GOT THE TRUCK TOWED TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALER - BOB DAVIDSON FORD,, PARKVILLE, MARYLAND 21234 (410-661-6400). THEY PERFORMED DIAGNOSTICS FOR A FEE OF $123.00 AND SAID THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE SERVICE DEPT INDICATED THAT THEY WERE OUT OF THESE PARTS AND IS BACKORDERED. THEY WERE NOT SURE WHEN THEY WILL GET THE PART. I DROVE THE SUV HOME WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. I CALLED FORD MOTOR CO. CUSTOMER RELATIONS AND COMPLAINED. THEY ISSUED A CLAIM NUMBER CAS[XXX]. I AM UNABLE TO RENT A CAR AS I DON'T KNOW HOW LONG IT WOULD BE UNTIL THEY GET THE PART TO FIX. I SEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THIS HAD BEEN A RECURRING PROBLEM FOR THE ESCAPE 2010. FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM, I ASKED THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE "IS FORD WAITING UNTIL PEOPLE GET KILLED TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS DEFECT?". IT IS QUITE DANGEROUS IF IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING IN THE EXPRESS WAY AT 55-60 MPH IN AN INSIDE LANE. GOD HELP THE ESCAPE OWNERS. THROTTLE RESPONSE RETURNED. SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED THE NEXT DAY AT APPROXIMATELY SAME SPEED. PULLED OFF ROAD, SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER/REPAIR SHOP AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN NEIGHBORHOOD AT APPROX. 15MPH, ENGINE STALLED AND ORANGE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. PULLED OVER TO SIDE OF STREET, SHUT DOWN ENGINE AND THEN RESTARTED. ENGINE RAN FINE FOR ANOTHER 2 WEEKS AND THEN SAME EVENT OCCURRED WITH WIFE DRIVING. ONE WEEK LATER, DID SAME THING WHILE I WAS DRIVING. FORD DEALER HAS CAR NOW AND SAYS THEY ARE WAITING FOR A THROTTLE BODY. CAR HAS BEEN IN SHOP FOR OVER 1 WEEK SO FAR. *TR
DRIVING OFF EXIT RAMP AND ESCAPE WENT INTO "LIMP MODE". THIS "LIMP MODE" HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY AND SIDE ROADS 6 TO 8 TIMES. THIS THROTTLE BOX REPLACEMENT IS AT MY EXPENSE. FORD DEALER WILL NO COVER,AS I WAS TOLD "THE ESCAPES DO NOT HAVE A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE." *TR
THE VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING AT RELATIVELY CONSTANT SPEED. THE ENGINE HESITATED, CAR DID NOT ACCELERATE WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS APPLIED. THE ENGINE THEN STALLED. I PULLED OVER, RESTARTED THE ENGINE, AND THE CAR SEEM TO RUN NORMALLY AFTER THIS FIRST INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE HAS CONTINUED TO INTERMITTENTLY HAVE THE SAME ISSUE, ALTHOUGH IT MAY NEED TO BE RESTARTED A FEW TIMES BEFORE ACTING NORMAL AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BECAUSE IT STALLED AND SEEM UNABLE TO MAKE THE DRIVE HOME. THE ENGINE THROTTLE WAS CLEANED IN AUGUST BY A MECHANIC, BUT STALLED REPEATEDLY 3 DAYS LATER. USING DRY GAS AND KEEPING THE TANK NEARLY FULL HAS NOT SOLVED THE ISSUE EITHER. MY EXPERIENCE SEEMS SIMILAR TO MANY COMPLAINTS FOUND AT THIS WEBSITE AND OTHER PLACES ON THE INTERNET. *JS
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH IN CRUISE CONTROL AND THE CAR SUDDENLY DIED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WHEN I STEPPED ON THE PEDAL NOTHING HAPPENED. THE AC UNIT AND RADIO CONTINUED TO WORK FINE. WHEN THE CAR FINALLY CAME TO A STOP, I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT AND IT CAME BACK ON LIKE NORMAL. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NO LONGER ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME FINE. *TR
THE VEHICLE STARTED STALLING WHILE APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND CONTINUED TO STALL TO WHERE EVENTUALLY THE GAS PEDAL WAS NON-OPERATIONAL. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND A MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS NOT OPERATING PROPERLY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FORD STAFF INDICATED THE PART IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AND THE REPLACEMENT PART WOULD HAVE TO BE PAID OUT OF POCKET AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. *TR
CAR STALLED ON HIGHWAY AT 70 MILES PER HOUR. SEEMED LIKE CAR SHUTOFF, BUT LATER REALIZED THAT CAR WAS STILL ON BUT NOT MOVING. TOOK TO DEALER IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. QUITE DANGEROUS DUE TO SUDDEN LOSS OF CONTROL ON HIGHWAY, EASILY COULD OF BEEN HIT BY OTHER CAR. *TR
I HAVE BEEN A FORD OWNER FOR YEARS, AND THIS IS THE FIRST COMPLAINT I AM FILING. MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE SUDDENLY LOST ALL POWER AND I HAD TO PULL IT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT RESTARTED AND RESUMED DRIVING NORMALLY. THE NEXT DAY I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. SINCE I WAS ON THE INTERSTATE OUTSIDE A MAJOR CITY, I FEEL THIS IS A REAL SAFETY HAZARD. I HAD NO ABILITY TO POWER THE VEHICLE OTHER THAN ITS OWN MOMENTUM. I REALLY WANT TO SEE THIS PART RECALLED! *TR

AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED IT FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE PART WAS ON A MASSIVE BACK ORDER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 32,000.

WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE CAR STOPPED RESPONDING TO THE GAS PEDAL BEING PUSH, AND STARTED SLOWING DOWN SUDDENLY. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHERE THE CAR SPUTTERED, AND TURNED IT OFF. POPPED THE HOOD EVERYTHING LOOKS GOOD. TURNED THE CAR ON AGAIN, STARTED GOING, AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. WHEN I PULLED OVER A SECOND TIME, LET THE CAR SIT ROUGHLY 5 MINUTES, TURNED OVER AND WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO AN AUTO ZONE TO RUN THE DIAGNOSTICS. TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS ADVISED THAT NOT ONLY CAN THEY NOT FIX IT CURRENTLY, BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THE PART WILL BECOME AVAILABLE TO FIX IT, SINCE THE PART IS CURRENTLY BEING REDESIGNED. I'M SCARED TO DRIVE MY SUV, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT'S WITH MY TWO AND HALF YEAR OLD WITH ME. I'M AFRAID OF BEING LEFT STRANDED. *TR

I WAS THEN ABLE TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD AND CONTINUED TO MY DESTINATION WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT. I TOOK MY CAR INTO A CERTIFIED FORD DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND LOCATED NO STORED CODES IN THE COMPUTER. YESTERDAY ON 06/11/2013 THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE I WAS ON THE EXPRESSWAY. I HAD TO GET ON THE SHOULDER WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND RESTART THE CAR. ON 6/07, AGAIN ON HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT WARNING, CAR AGAIN LOST POWER FROM ACCELERATOR - IMMEDIATE LOSS OF MOMENTUM ALMOST CAUSED ME TO BE BROADSIDED BY LARGE SUV MERGING FROM OFF RAMP AS I AM TRYING TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER. WHILE DRIVING IN LIGHT TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE FREEWAY, JUST COMING OVER A HILL, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. MULTIPLE POWER LOSS SURGES AND THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON SO THE FORD ESCAPE WAS ALLOW TO COAST DOWN HILL TO THE NEXT EXIT RAMP. ONCE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OFF RAMP, THE IGNITION WAS TURNED OFF AND A TOW TRUCK WAS CALLED. TO MOVE THE CAR OUT OF THE WAY, THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND IT WAS NOTICED THAT ANOTHER LIGHT WAS ALSO TURNED ON INDICATING SOMETHING MECHANICAL (TRANSMISSION) HAD ALSO FAILED. THE CAR WAS BARELY ABLE TO MOVE IN 1ST GEAR TO CLEAR THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TILL THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED. LATER THE MECHANIC READ THE TROUBLE CODES AND SAID THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND THE TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER WAS SERIOUSLY DAMAGED. FORTUNATELY THE TRAFFIC WAS NOT HEAVY AND THERE WAS OPPORTUNITY TO EXIT THE FREEWAY WITHOUT CRASHING. *TR

GOING ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR STARTED TO COAST,THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT. I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR AND IT WAS AS THOUGH THE CAR WAS NOT GETTING ANY FUEL TO THE ENGINE THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. I COASTED TO A STOP TURNED OFF THE ENGINE WAITED A FEW MINUTES TURNED THE CAR ON IT SEEMED FINE SO I FINISHED MY ERRAND. ON THE WAY HOME I WAS GOING APPROX. 50MPH ON THE LOCAL HIGHWAY AND THE SAME THING HAPPENED. TOOK MY CAR TO A LOCAL FORD DEALER (I THOUGHT IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY) THEY SAID IT WOULD COST $900.00 TO CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY AS RECOMMENDED BY FORD BUT THEY WERE NOT SURE IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE THROTTLE BODY PART WAS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY WERE NOT SURE WHEN THEY COULD GET ONE. SO NOW I HAVE A CAR I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE. *TR
IN FEB. 2013 I BROUGHT MY CAR TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT WAS RUNNING ROUGH WHEN I WAS GOING UP AN INCLINE AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON BUT THEN WENT OFF. AFTER THE DEALER CHECKED IT THEY ASSURED ME NOTHING WAS MECHANICALLY WRONG. OFF AND ON THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, BUT ON A LESSER SCALE, BUT THERE WERE NO FAILURES INDICATED IN THE COMPUTER. ON MAY 23, 2013 I WAS TRAVELING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC FROM BALTIMORE WHEN MY CAR BEGAN RUNNING ROUGH AND WITHIN SECONDS THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS ON. I HAD NO ACCELERATION AT ALL. I MANAGED TO NURSE IT TO THE SIDE OF A MAJOR HIGHWAY WHERE I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I WAITED SEVERAL MINS AND RESTARTED THE CAR. IT STARTED, THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON BUT THE WRENCH WENT OUT. I WAS NOT IN A PLACE THAT WAS SAFE FOR ME TO REMAIN SO I NURSED THE CAR TO THE DEALER. AFTER SECURING A RENTAL CAR FOR ABOUT $50 A DAY (AT MY EXPENSE) I WAS INFORMED THAT IT WILL BE APPROXIMATELY 27 DAYS (3RD WEEK OF JUNE) BEFORE THE PART IS AVAILABLE AND WILL COST ME APPROXIMATELY $750 TO FIX. AT $50 A DAY MY RENTAL WILL BE TWICE THE REPAIR BILL AND MORE THAN MY MORTGAGE! IT WAS SUGGESTED BY THE DEALER I CALL FORD'S CUSTOMER CARE CENTER, WHICH I DID, AND WAS TOLD MY COMPLAINT WAS LOGGED AND THAT I WOULD HEAR "MOST LIKELY NEXT FROM THE MANAGER AT THE DEALER". THEY DID NOT OFFER TO ASSIST WITH A LOANER OR WITH THE ISSUE SURROUNDING THE FACT THAT IT WAS GOING TO TAKE 27 DAYS (AT LEAST) FOR A PART TO BE AVAILABLE. NOTHING WAS ULTIMATELY RESOLVED THROUGH FORD CUSTOMER CARE. FORTUNATELY I WAS IN THE "SLOW" LANE WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND COULD GET TO THE SHOULDER. TWO WEEKS AGO I PUT GAS IN MY ESCAPE AND THE MILEAGE TO E READER DID NOT GO UP AFTER I FINISHED PUMPING THE GAS LIKE IT NORMALLY DOES. SO I PUSHED THE VAPOR RELEASE LOCK IN THE GAS CAP, AND IT WENT UP TO WHERE THE READER SHOULD HAVE BEEN, WHICH IM NOT SURE IF THAT IS VALID TO THE ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH MY ESCAPE BUT I JUST THOUGHT I WOULD INCLUDE THIS JUST IN CASE. ANYWAY, LATER THAT NIGHT ON MY WAY HOME FROM THE GAS STATION IS WHEN I HAD MY FIRST INCIDENT WITH THE GAS PEDAL NOT WORKING. I WAS ACCELERATING UP A SMALL INCLINE AND THEN STARTING LOSING POWER AND SPEED. SO I PULLED OVER AND PUT MY CAR IN PARK AND IT WAS SPUTTERING SO I TURNED MY CAR OFF, WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND TURNED IT BACK ON. IN A 35 MPH ZONE, WHEN ACCELERATING AFTER SLOWING TO ALLOW VEHICLE IN FRONT TO TURN, THROTTLE STUCK OPEN & CAR LOST POWER. WAS ABLE TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD AND RESTART CAR AND PROCEED. SAME THING HAPPENED 4 ADDITIONAL TIMES THAT DAY AT VARIOUS SPEEDS ACCELERATING TO SPEED FOLLOWING A STOP OR USING AN ON-RAMP TO HIGHWAY SPEED. HAVE EXPERIENCED "SURGING" PREVIOUSLY BUT DEALER IGNORED REPORTS AS "INTERMITTENT". CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER ON 22 MAY AND IS STILL THERE AWAITING A NEW THROTTLE CONTROL BODY. SHIPMENT OF NEW PART IS ESTIMATED AS 17 JUNE. DEALER IS NOT PROVIDING LOANER OR RENTAL CAR AS THE PART IS NOT CONSIDERED PART OF THE POWERTRAIN & IS THEREFORE APPROX. 6 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. SINCE THE CAR CANNOT "GO" WITHOUT THE THROTTLE CONTROL BODY - WHY IS IT CONSIDERED PART OF THE EMISSION SYSTEM VICE THE POWERTRAIN? WITH SO MANY CARS DOWN FOR THIS PART, IT SHOULD BE A RECALL. *TR

I HAD A MECHANIC COME WITH HIS HANDHELD COMPUTER AND READ THE CODE AND IT SAYS THROTTLE AVIATOR STUCK OPEN, THEN HE ERASES THE COMPUTER CODE ND I AM ABLE TO DRIVE UNTIL THE NEXT TOME IT HAPPENS. WHICH IT HAS HAPPEN EVERYDAY NOW SINCE JUNE 12TH. FORD HAS SAID THAT THE PART IS BEING REVAMPED AND NOT SURE WHEN IT WILL BE AVAILABLE. MY MECHANIC SAID THAT HE HAS REPLACED MANY OF THESE. I AM WRITING TO YOU REGARDING AN ISSUE WITH MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AROUND 65 MPH WHEN MY CAR STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 5 MPH. I WAS ABLE TO START THE CAR UP AGAIN AND IT SEEMED FINE. LATER THAT DAY, I WAS ACCELERATING FROM BEING AT A RED LIGHT AND THE CAR STALLED AGAIN. THE FIRST TIME I HAD JUST LEFT A STOP LIGHT AND WAS ACCELERATING AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE LOST ACCELERATION AND EVEN WITH MY FOOT PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR, IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I PULLED OVER, LET THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, CRANKED IT BACK UP AND IT DROVE FINE FOR 2-3 WEEKS. (6/7/13) THEN AFTER DRIVING FOR 4 HOURS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN. IT OCCURRED THREE TIMES BEFORE I GOT TO MY DESTINATION, ALL WITHIN A 30 MINUTE TIMEFRAME. EACH TIME IT WAS ABLE TO BE CORRECTED BY TURNING IT OFF AND RESTARTING. UPON ARRIVAL AT MY DESTINATION I LET THE CAR SIT FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES THEN WE TOOK THE CAR OUT AGAIN. IT DE-CELERATED ONE TIME AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND ONE TIME AT APPROXIMATELY 45 MILES AN HOUR. IN THIS LAST SET OF OCCURRENCES THE EMISSION/CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SYMBOL CAME ON AS WELL AS THE WRENCH SYMBOL. BOTH TIMES IT WAS AGAIN ABLE TO BE RESTARTED - THE TWO TIMES IN THIS ROUND OF OCCURRENCES HAPPENED WITHIN 10 MINUTES OF EACH OTHER. THE CAR THEN SAT OVERNIGHT (6/8/13) AND AS I PULLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC YET ANOTHER OCCURRENCE HAPPENED. AGAIN IT WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE MECHANIC AND BACK (ROUND TRIP OF ABOUT 30 MILES). WHILE AT THE MECHANIC SHOP THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND IT CAME UP AS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM. I DO NOT HAVE THE ERROR NUMBERS AT THIS TIME TO NOTATE. *TR
WHILE GETTING ON THE FREEWAY THE CAR SLOWED DOWN ON ITS OWN AND ALMOST STALLED OUT (THIS OCCURRED TWICE). IT ALSO OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AND SPEEDING UP ON THE FREEWAY WHERE IT SLOWED DOWN TO WHERE IT FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR SUDDENLY STARTED TO SPUTTER, SHUTTER AND LURCH FORWARD WHILE LOSING SPEED AND MAKING A STRANGE NOISE. THE "WRENCH" LIGHT DISPLAYED WHICH IDENTIFIES A POWER TRAIN/THROTTLE PROBLEM. PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, TURNED OFF ENGINE, RESTARTED AND ALL APPEARED FINE, WRENCH LIGHT TURNED OFF AND DROVE REST OF WAY HOME. RESEARCHED ONLINE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINS REGARDING THIS PROBLEM WHICH APPEARS TO BE TIED TO THE THROTTLE BODY OR ELECTRIC SYSTEM THAT CONTROLS THE THROTTLE INPUT BETWEEN THE GAS PEDAL AND THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND SCARY PROBLEM AND I'M VERY CONCERNED IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN SOON.
