I WAS TRAVELING 60MPH, CAR SUDDENLY STALLED ON THE HIGHWAY. GAS PADDLE DID NOT RESPOND. ENGINE LIGHT & WRENCH LIGHT WAS LIT. STOPPED THE VEHICLE COMPLETELY & TURN THE ENGINE OFF. WAITED COUPLE OF MINS AND START AGAIN. NO WRENCH LIGHT BUT ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF. NOW THIS HAPPENS EVERY DAY. *TR
FIRST IT STARTED WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON. I HAD THE CODES READ AT A LOCAL AUTO PARTS STORE AND THEY SAW IT WAS AN "EVAP CENSOR" AND STATED THIS IS USUALLY ASSOCIATED WITH A GAS CAP LEAKING. WELL, THE ESCAPE WE HAVE DOESN'T HAVE A GAS CAP!!! IT'S ONE OF THOSE "QUICK FUEL, NASCAR TYPE SYSTEMS", WHERE THERE IS JUST A PLUG THAT RETRACTS WHEN YOU INSERT THE GAS NOZZLE AND RETRACTS WHEN YOU'RE FINISHED? SECONDLY, THE SURGING STARTED HAPPENING WHILE STOPPED AT RED LIGHTS. I WOULD SLIDE THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL, WHICH WOULD KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM LUNGING, BUT YOU COULD STILL SEE THE RPM'S REVVING UP AND DOWN. THIS ISSUE WENT ON FOR ABOUT TWO MONTHS. THIRDLY, IT IS NOW STALLING WHILE DRIVING 50 - 60 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THERE DOESN'T SEEM TO BE ANY RHYME OR REASON AS TO WHEN IT HAPPENS, IT JUST TOTALLY SHUTS DOWN THE ENGINE!!! VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE SHUDDERED AND LOST POWER. IT BEGAN COASTING AND I HAD NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND PUT IT IN PARK. I REALIZED IT WAS STILL RUNNING, JUST VERY ROUGHLY. I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND RESTARTED IT, AFTER WHICH IT DROVE FINE. SINCE THEN, IT HAS HAPPENED BETWEEN 5-6 TIMES IN A 2 WEEK PERIOD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THEY TOLD ME I NEEDED A NEW THROTTLE BODY, WHICH IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE POWER-TRAIN WARRANTY. *TR
AS VEHICLE WAS PROCEEDING FORWARD FROM A STOP ONTO A FOUR LANE ROAD WITH THE SPEED LIMIT OF 35 MPH, IT ROLLED FORWARD AND NO POWER WAS PROVIDED. NO WARNING LIGHTS PRIOR TO THIS. THE THROTTLE CONTROL / POWER TRAIN LIGHT CAME ON AND WE WERE ONLY ABLE TO GO APPROXIMATELY 20 -30 YARDS ONTO THE SHOULDER ATTEMPTING TO GO AROUND THE CORNER AND UP A HILL THE VEHICLE WAS UNABLE TO DO THIS WE ROLLED BACK TO THE SHOULDER THEN TURNED THE CAR OFF RESTARTED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED AND WERE ABLE TO GET THE CAR UP THE HILL AND HOME. CAR WAS TOWED TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY WHICH WAS THEN REPLACED.
5/17 WHILE STARTING FROM A RED LIGHT STOPPED, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED BUT SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION. WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE TO A PARKING LOT AND CALL FOR A TOW. THE TECHNICIAN SAID THE ISSUE WAS WITH THE FUEL LINE AND I HAD MY VEHICLE BACK. 6/7 SIMILAR DECELERATION HAPPENED AND THIS TIME THE VEHICLE STARTING KNOCKING A LOT AT LOW SPEEDS. WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ONE. AFTER TURNING OFF AND STARTING AGAIN, THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE. I BROUGHT IT HOME AND ONE MONDAY (6/10) STARTED IT AGAIN TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE DROVE FINE FOR HALF A MILE BEFORE EXHIBITING THE SAME BEHAVIOR OR DECELERATION AND FREQUENT KNOCKING. I PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND CALLED THE TOW. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE MECHANIC THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDS REPLACING AND IT IS BACK ORDERED NATIONALLY. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY, THE CAR BEGAN SPUTTERING AND THEN THERE WAS NO ACCELERATION. WHILE THE POWER REMAINED ON, THE CAR DRIFTED TO A STOP. AFTER GETTING THE CAR TOWED TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. A WEEK LATER, THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AND I WAS THEN TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS PART WAS ON A NATIONWIDE BACK ORDER AND MY CAR WAS NOT BE FIXED UNTIL AT LEAST A WEEK LATER. TODAY, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ALSO, MY SISTER OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE AND HAD EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM ABOUT A WEEK AGO. BOTH CARS HAD ABOUT 50,000 MILES ON THEM. *TR
THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT IS GOING TO CUT OFF, YOU CAN'T GIVE IT ANY GAS. I HAVE TO PULL OVER, WHERE I AM AT, WHETHER IT BE THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, OR A CENTER TURNING LANE. I THEN HAVE TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURN IT OFF, WAIT ABOUT 15 SECONDS AND START IT BACK UP. MOST OF THE TIME I HAVE TO REPEAT THIS PROCESS SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE I REACH MY DESTINATION. IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY WHICH WE HAVE TRIED TO ORDER BUT HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS ON BACK ORDER AND THEY (FORD DEALERSHIP) ARE NOT SURE WHEN THEY WILL GET ONE IN. THIS MUST BE A HUGE PROBLEM IN THE U.S. BECAUSE WE HAVE BEEN TOLD BY FORD DEALER THAT THEY HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE "A BUNCH". *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX 45MPH, VEHICLE STARTED TO DECREASE IN SPEED. PRESSING THE GAS PEDAL THE RPMS CONTINUED TO DECREASE AND CAR SLOWED TO A STOP WITHOUT STALLING. VEHICLE BEGAN SPUTTERING AND "WRENCH" LIGHT APPEARED ON DASH. *TR
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE STALLED WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE WAS UNRESPONSIVE WHEN PRESSING ON THE GAS PEDAL AND REQUIRED A RESTART IN ORDER TO TEMPORARILY CORRECT THE ISSUE. IN ALL INSTANCES, I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND STRUGGLED TO MAKE MY WAY TO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY TO MYSELF AND OTHERS. UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION FROM LOCAL FORD DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. DEALER STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WAS ONLY COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THROUGH 36K MILES. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE - SEVERAL INSTANCES OF DRAMATIC LOSS OF POWER RESULTING IN 'LIMP MODE' DUE TO THROTTLE BODY STICKING CLOSED. THIS REQUIRES RESTARTING THE CAR AND HAS BEEN OCCURRING MORE FREQUENTLY SINCE FIRST INCIDENT. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT A FORD DEALERSHIP TO BE REPAIRED; HOWEVER, DEALERSHIP STATES THAT THE THROTTLE BODY CANNOT BE REPLACED DUE TO THE PART BEING ON BACKORDER 'INDEFINITELY.' DEALERSHIP ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH LATE MODEL ESCAPES, BUT WAS UNABLE TO OFFER ANY SUGGESTION OR TIME FRAME FOR REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE THROTTLE SENSOR AND CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. *TR
AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE CAR JUST LOST ACCELERATION AND THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. JUST TODAY WE HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN AGAIN. FORD DEALER TELLS ME THERE WAS NO CODE SO THEY CAN'T ORDER THE PART. HOWEVER, THEY BELIEVE THE THROTTLE BODY IS BAD BUT NEED THE CODE TO BE SURE. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY KNOW WHAT IT IS BUT ARE UNWILLING TO FIX THIS. THEY TELL TO JUST RESTART AND KEEP GOING SOONER OR LATER IT WILL TO START AND THEY CAN FIX IT. I AM GOING ON VACATION TOMORROW JUST WHAT I NEED IS THIS TO FAIL AT THE WRONG TIME. DOES SOMEONE NEED TO DIE BEFORE SOMETHING IS DONE. SURE SEEMS TOYOTA WASN'T GIVEN THIS MUCH LEEWAY A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO. *TR
DRIVING ALONG AROUND AT 45 OR 50 MPH AND WENT TO TURN ON THE AIR CONDITIONER AND THE CAR STALLED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND THE CAR RESTARTED.. PREVIOUS TO THIS WHEN TURNING ON THE AC THE CAR GOT VERY SLUGGISH, I WAS STEPPING ON THE GAS BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT GO. AFTER A VERY SHORT TIME THE CAR RECOVERED AND NORMAL SPEED WAS ATTAINED. I FEAR THIS MAY HAPPEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC OR MERGING AND THIS HAPPENING WOULD BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE FROM THAT FORD IS HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THIS PART. WHEN I SEARCHED THE INTERNET I SAW THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME OR SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE 2005 -2011 ESCAPES. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT FORD IS DOING A REDESIGN OF THIS PART BUT NO DATE AS TO WHEN IT WOULD BE AVAILABLE. MY DEALERSHIP STATED THEY WERE ABLE TO FIND THE SAME PART BUT NO PROMISES IF IT WOULD LAST. THEY ALSO STATED THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM WHILE IN THE SHOP, THUS IT'S AN INTERMITTENT OCCURENCE. THEY RECOMMENDED JUST DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND KEEPING IN TOUCH TO SEE WHEN THE REDESIGN IS AVAILABLE. *TR
DRIVING 65 MPH ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT 7:30 A.M. ON MAY 13. SUDDENLY, THERE WAS NO LONGER POWER. THE VEHICLE WOULD ONLY IDLE, NOT ACCELERATE. THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER TOWING TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD REQUIRE A NEW THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WE OWN A 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED, PURCHASED NEW JUNE 2010. THROTTLE CONTROL WENT OUT FIRST TIME IN MAY 2013. CALLED DEALER, THEY SAID JUST WATER IN GAS. SECOND TIME APPROX. 2 WEEKS LATER, HAPPENED AGAIN, TOOK TO DEALER WHERE IT HAS REMAINED FOR ALMOST A MONTH NOW. WE WORK AND WE NEED OUR CAR. THIS NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED, TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, HAVE BEEN TOLD PART IS BACK-ORDERED OVER 16,000. CONSUMERS NEED RELIEF FROM THIS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT APPROXIMATELY 40MPH WHEN WITH NO WARNING, THE CAR STARTED TO STUTTER LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL OUT AND I LOST ALL ABILITY TO ACCELERATE. THE MONKEY WRENCH WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE BEFORE SOMEONE HIT ME FROM BEHIND AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I CALLED FOR ASSISTANCE, BUT THE VEHICLE STARTED UP AGAIN FINE, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT TO THE NEAREST FORD DEALER. THEY ADVISED IT WAS MOST LIKELY A THROTTLE TRAIN ISSUE, AND THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE TRAIN. *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, CAR DE-ACCELERATED, IDLE WAS VERY ROUGH, DESPITE PRESSING ON ACCELERATOR UNABLE TO MAKE CAR ADVANCE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE AND IS VERY UNNERVING AND UNSAFE. AFTER PUTTING THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNING IT OFF, THE CAR SEEMED TO RESET ITSELF. OUR MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. FORD MOTOR CO. REFUSED TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNLESS IT CAME OUT OF MY POCKET. THIS IS SO DANGEROUS AND THESE CARS SHOULD BE RECALLED AND FIXED. I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS CAR UNTIL IT IS FIXED. I FEEL LIKE I COULD GET KILLED IN THIS CAR. *TR
VEHICLE LOST POWER WHILE DRIVING APPROX 40 MPH. NO RESPONSE FROM THE GAS PEDAL. SHUT IGNITION OFF AND CAR RAN FINE FOR A WHILE. HAPPENED THREE MORE TIMES. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER FOR REPAIR, THEY SAID IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. VEHICLE IS STILL IN SHOP AS THERE APPARENTLY IS A "NATIONAL BACKORDER" ON THE PART - NONE AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW. *TR
WHEN DRIVING IN TRAFFIC, THE CAR FAILED TO ACCELERATE, IT RAPIDLY LOST POWER AS IF IT WERE GOING TO STALL. I PULLED OVER AND RESTARTED THE CAR. AT THE TIME I HAD TWO SMALL CHILDREN IN THE CAR. *TR
INTERMITTENT VEHICLE STALLS AND SURGES UPON ENTERING TRAFFIC FROM A STOPPED POSITION OR WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. PROBLEM WAS INITIALLY INTERMITTENT AND CONTINUED TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE UNDER THIS CONDITION. HOWEVER, A SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME/MILEAGE LATER, THE CONDITION EVENTUALLY PROGRESSED TO THE POINT OF KEEPING ONE FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHILE STOPPED AND THE OTHER ON THE GAS PEDAL TO KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING AS WELL AS PULLING OFF THE ROADWAYS AND INTERSTATES UNTIL VEHICLE WAS MARGINALLY OPERATIONAL AGAIN. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION, PARTICULARLY DRIVING UNDER HIGH SPEEDS ON THE INTERSTATE. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP, THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS A FAILED THROTTLE BODY, WITH TROUBLE CODES P2111 AND P2112 PRESENT IN THE ON BOARD COMPUTER SYSTEM, INDICATING THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM WAS STUCK OPEN AND CLOSED, RESPECTIVELY. THERE WERE NO WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO THE INITIAL FAILURE OR PRIOR TO SUBSEQUENT FAILURES, ONLY WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SURGING DID THE CHECK ENGINE/MAINTENANCE REQUIRED LIGHTS BEGIN TO ILLUMINATE. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED AS A CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED TO WHICH THIS KNOWN CONDITION WAS NOT COVERED BY ANY CONDITION UNDER THE WARRANTY. *TR
ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY - CODE P2111 DISPLAYED - ACTION NUMBER PE13003 CAR LOST TRANSMISSION POWER AND EVENTUALLY STOPPED OUT ON ROUTE 1 SOUTH. THE ISSUE BEGAN AT THE TOP OF THE MORRIS GOODKIND BRIDGE , AS THE INCIDENT OCCURRED I NOTICED THE WRENCH ICON IN THE LOWER LEFT OF THE DASHBOARD AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE TRAVELING AT THE AVERAGE PACE OF TRAFFIC, I MANAGED TO GET TO THE CENTER LANE ONCE I REALIZED THE ISSUE AND EVENTUALLY THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP [ ENGINE WOULD REV BUT NO POWER WOULD TRANSFER TO TRANSMISSION] NEAR THE DANGEROUS EXIT RAMP FOR ROUTE 18 N AND S. LUCKILY NO ONE BEHIND ME WERE INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENTS. I TURNED PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF I RESTARTED THE ENGINE AND SHIFTED TO DRIVE THE CAR SEEMED TO BE WORKING AGAIN. I GOT PAST THE RT. 18 RAMP AND GOT INTO THE RIGHT LANE I MADE IT ABOUT 1.5 MILES NEAR RUTGERS COOK COLLEGE WHERE THIS ISSUE HAPPENED AGAIN, THIS TIME I GOT ONTO THE SHOULDER BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. ONCE AGAIN I PUT THE CAR IN PARK AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN I DROVE IT HOME APPROXIMATELY 2 MILES BEFORE LEAVING IT PARKED UNTIL TUESDAY MAY 14TH WHEN MY WIFE AND I COULD DROP IT OFF AT THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, MALOUF FORD IN NORTH BRUNSWICK NJ. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN , THE CHECK ENGINE LAMP OR THE WRENCH ICON DO NOT DISPLAY UNTIL THIS PART FAILS. UNEXPECTEDLY LOSING POWER AND STOPPING ON ONE OF THE BUSIEST MOST TRAVELED PORTION OF ROUTE 1 IS SCARY. I AM GLAD THAT MY 2 YEAR OLD SON AND MY PREGNANT WIFE WERE NOT INJURED WHEN THIS OCCURRED. IN ADDITION COUNTLESS OTHER MOTORISTS WERE PUT AT RISK DUE TO THIS PART FAILURE WITHOUT WARNING. ******I HAVE ALL RECIEPTS AND DOCUMENTATION IF YOU NEED FURTHER INFORMATION OR ASSISTANCE. *TR
THROTTLE, CAR STALLS IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAY AND STREETS, NO WARNING. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT CONTINUES TO HAVE INTERMITTENT OCCURRENCES OF "STALLING IN MOTION" WITH NO WARNING. WE HAVE BEEN LUCKY SO FAR THAT THE VEHICLE WILL COAST TO SHOULDER OR A PARKING LOT. IF WE DRIVE ON INTERSTATE WE ONLY TRAVEL IN THE RIGHT LANE IN CASE WE HAVE TO COAST OFF. VEHICLE THEN IDLES ROUGHLY AT ABOUT 800 RPM. VEHICLE HAS TO BE PUT IN PARK AND SHUT-OFF. THEN RESTART SO FAR MAKES VEHICLE GO AGAIN SOMETIMES. VEHICLE MAY HAVE TO BE RESTARTED MULTIPLE TIMES TO GET MOVING AGAIN. HOWEVER, THIS IS GETTING MORE COMMONPLACE AND WE WILL NOT ALLOW OUR YOUNG INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS TO OPERATE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE EXTREME SAFETY RISKS ASSOCIATED WITH OPERATING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS PLACING A HUGE BURDEN ON OUR FAMILY AS WE CANNOT AFFORD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AT FORD DEALER DUE TO THE HIGH EXPENSE INVOLVED. VEHICLE HAS CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WITH P2111 CODE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS WHICH SPECIFICALLY ISOLATES THE THROTTLE BODY MALFUNCTION. THIS SITUATION NEEDS TO BE REMEDIED BY FORD BEFORE A DEATH OCCURS AS IT WILL OCCUR SOON ESPECIALLY ON INTERSTATES OR HIGHWAYS. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN I-40 IN EASTERN ARKANSAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE WENT TO IDLE SPEED. PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR DID NOTHING. I COASTED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND THE CAR WAS IDLING BUT WOULD NOT DRIVE. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND IT RESTARTED AND RAN WITH NO PROBLEMS THE REST OF THE WAY. ON JUNE 18TH, 2013, THE CAR DID THE SAME THING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC IN LITTLE ROCK ON I-30 IN THE LEFT LANE. I COASTED TO AN EXIT AND TOOK IT. THE CAR AGAIN RESTARTED, BUT THIS TIME WITHIN 30 SECONDS IT WENT TO IDLE AGAIN AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE ODOMETER READ 60,480 AT THIS TIME. ON JUNE 19TH, 2013, I TOOK THE CAR TO LANDERS FORD IN BENTON ARKANSAS WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM AS NEEDING THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. THE PART WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 3 WEEKS TO COME IN. AS IS, I CANNOT DRIVE THE CAR OUT OF TOWN FOR FEAR OF IT BREAKING DOWN COMPLETELY. THIS IS OUR ONLY VEHICLE AND WE BOTH HAVE ELDERLY PARENTS WHO WE NEED TO GO SEE ABOUT. WE WILL HAVE TO RENT A CAR TO DO THIS NOW. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPROX 55MPH THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. HAD TO PULL OVER AND RESTART VEHICLE TWICE BEFORE IT WOULD MOVE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK GOING ABOUT 40MPH WHEN MY ESCAPE LOST POWER TO THE THROTTLE. I HAD TO PULL OVER AND SHUT IT OFF. I WAITED A FEW MINUTES TO START IT AGAIN. IT STARTED AND DROVE WITH NO PROBLEM FOR A FEW MINUTES AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. AFTER LOOKING FOR SIMILIAR PROBLEMS ONLINE I FOUND THAT IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY. *TR
WHILE DRIVING CAR ENGINE SUDDENLY DECELERATES TO A FAST ROUGH IDLE. CAR MUST BE PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD , THEN SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED TO CONTINUE DRIVING. THIS INCIDENT HAS OCCURRED 4 TIMES BETWEEN 5/6 AND 5/15/2013. CAR HAS BEEN IN THE FORD DEALERS SHOP FOR A WEEK NOW WITHOUT A FIX, SEEMS LIKE THE ONBOARD COMPUTER DOES NOT SAVE THE DIAGNOSTIC DATA AFTER BEING SHUT OFF. NEW FORDS WITH 1970'S COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY ? I BELIEVE THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND FORD NEEDS TO DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN I HEARD A CLICK FROM THE CAR ENGINE. ACCELERATION GRADUALLY DECLINED. THE GAS PEDDLE DID NOT RESPOND. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. AS I WAS SLOWING TO PARK, TO TURN OFF THE CAR, THE CAR SURGED SEVERAL TIMES. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR, WITH A HESITATED START AND GET HOME. THIS HAPPENED 5 TIMES OVER A TWO WEEK PERIOD OF TIME. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE ELECTRICAL THROTTLE BODY REPLACED. THIS CORRECTED THE ISSUE. *TR
WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, THE GAS PEDAL BECOMES USELESS AND NO LONGER ACCELERATES THE CAR. THE ENGINE IS STILL ON AND ALL POWER IS ON IN THE CAR BUT YOU CAN'T ACCELERATE AT ALL. VERY DANGEROUS ON THE EXPRESSWAYS AS THE CAR CAN JUST DIE AND IF YOU CAN'T GET OVER TO THE EMERGENCY LANE.... YOU HAVE TO PULL THE CAR OVER, TURN OFF AND RESTART. SEEMS TO WORK FOR A WHILE AFTER THAT. HAS DONE THIS AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS, AND SEVERAL DIFFERENT TIMES. MY WIFE HAS HAD A FEW CLOSE CALLS WITH ALMOST BEING REAR ENDED DUE TO THIS ISSUE. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE SPEED GOES DOWN SUDDENLY AND ALL KINDS OF LIGHTS GO ON, AND IT DIES AFTER THAT. SHUT OFF THE CAR WAIT 10- 15 MINUTES , RESTART THE CAR AND PRYING IT WILL TAKE ME HOME SAFELY, ON ONE OCCASION THE CARD DIED TWICE IN A 20 MILES TRIP. BROUGHT THE CAR FOR DIAGNOSIS AND I WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE-BODY HAS TO BE REPLACED AND IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY OR A RECALL. THE REPAIR COST ME $532 WHICH I PAID, LATER ON I CONTACTED FORD CORPORATE BY PHONE AND BY EMAIL, AND BOTH TOLD ME THAT THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED, AND THEY WOULD NOT RE-IMBURSE ME FOR THE REPAIR COST . I CHECKED YOUR WEBSITE AND I FOUND ALMOST 600 COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE , IN A WAY I FELT I'M NOT ALONE ,ON THE OTHER HAND IF FORD HAS THESE TOO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE THROTTLE - BODY FOR THE 2010 FORD ESCAPE , WHY THEY CAN NOT WORK WITH THE NHTSA AND ISSUE A RECALL TO REPLACE THAT DEFECTIVE PART BEFORE SOMEONE GETS INJURED OR DEAD BY A REAREND COLLISION. VEHICLE HAD ENTERED "LIMP" MODE SEVERAL TIMES. IN THE BEGINNING, IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE, BUT SOON PROGRESSED TO HAPPENING SEVERAL TIMES IN A SINGLE TRIP. ENGINE LOST POWER AND WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE. PULLED OFF HIGHWAY TURNED OFF ENGINE AND RESTARTED SEEMED NORMAL BUT REPEATED AFTER A FEW MOMENTS. NO TROUBLE CODE OR IDIOT LIGHT IS ON. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE WRENCH WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE RESTARTED AFTER FIVE MINUTES AND OPERATED AS DESIGNED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SIX HOURS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000. I WAS ACCELERATING UP THE ON-RAMP TO THE BAY BRIDGE FROM SAN FRANCISCO LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THE CAR WAS RESPONDING TO MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL AS THE ENGINE REVVED AND I GAINED SPEED, THEN SUDDENLY IT STOPPED RESPONDING AND SLOWED TO A CHUG WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE PEDAL. THE WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS I PRACTICALLY CAME TO A STOP WITH SPEEDING TRAFFIC SLAMMING ON BRAKES BEHIND ME. I PUT ON HAZARDS, STOPPED CAR, TURNED OFF ENGINE, RESTARTED CAR AND THE WRENCH LIGHT WAS OFF BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON FOR THE ENTIRE TIME AFTERWARDS. WHEN I WOULD ACCELERATE IN DRIVE, IT WOULD LIMP AT ABOUT 4 MPH. I COULD NOT GO ANY FASTER. I WAS ABLE TO GET OVER TO THE SLOW LANE AND TRIED TO KEEP GOING. THE CALTRANS SERVICE PATROL TRUCK PULLED UP BEHIND ME AND ESCORTED ME OVER TO THE LEFT LANE WHERE I PROCEEDED SLOWLY TO THE NEXT EXIT. I EVENTUALLY WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER (WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR) AND HAD TO LEAVE IT OVER THE WEEKEND. THEY CHARGE A FEE FOR DIAGNOSIS, BUT CAN'T DO IT UNTIL MONDAY, SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY'LL FIND. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, OTHER PEOPLE DESCRIBE VERY SIMILAR SYMPTOMS. THIS WAS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN THE MIDDLE OF FRIDAY RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. I WAS LUCKY NO ONE WAS HURT. SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW, THE ACCELERATION SOUND HAS ALWAYS BEEN LOUD, AND SOMETIMES PASSING GEAR SOUNDS LIKE IT'S OVER-SHOOTING. AFTER I STOP ACCELERATING, IT STILL KEEPS REVVING. HOWEVER, THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IT HAS STALLED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD MY CAR LOST POWER AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. IT BEGAN SHAKING AND THE WRENCH SYMBOL CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIFT OVER TO THE CENTER LANE AND TURN MY CAR OFF. IT RESTARTED AND DROVE DECENT. I WENT TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO SAID CLEANING THE THROTTLE BODY MAY HELP. I PICKED IT UP TODAY AND IT STILL ISN'T SHIFTING PROPERLY. I WILL GO TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TOMORROW. I ALSO HAD THE SAME ISSUES WITH THROTTLE BODY/CAR STALLING IN AUGUST 2012. *TR
WAS DRIVING AT SPEED OF 65 ON HWY ON 5/3/2013 WHEN VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER, WRENCH LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND VEHICLE CAME ALMOST TO COMPLETE STOP ALTHOUGH I HAD THE ACCELERATOR COMPLETELY DEPRESSED. COULD ONLY DRIVE ABOUT 1 MILE PER HOUR. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD AND TRIED TO DRIVE TO REPAIR SHOP BUT COULD NOT SAFELY DRIVE SO STOPPED AND CALLED ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE. THEY SUGGESTED I CALL FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WHEN I CONTACTED THEM THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TURN OFF ENGINE AND RESTART WHICH I DID, WRENCH LIGHT WENT OUT AND WAS THEN ABLE TO PROCEED HOME. TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD MOTOR REPAIR SHOP AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE AND THEY DID NOT TELL ME THERE HAVE BEEN ANY PROBLEMS WITH MAKE/MODEL. TALKED TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP AND LEARNED ACCORDING TO A TECHNICAL BULLETIN THERE HAVE BEEN PROBLEMS WITH THROTTLE BODY OF 2010 FORD ESCAPES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 2009 TO OCTOBER 2009. THIS PROBLEM PART WAS SUBSEQUENTLY FIXED ON MODELS MANUFACTURED AFTER THAT TIME. MINE WAS MANUFACTURED IN SEPTEMBER 2009. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED ON ALL VEHICLES IN THE IDENTIFIED MANUFACTURED DATES SINCE IT HAS OBVIOUSLY BEEN IDENTIFIED BY THE FORD COMPANY AND FORD REPAIR SHOPS SHOULD ADVISE OWNERS OF THE PROBLEM. I HAVE NO OTHER MEANS OF TRANSPORTATION AND LIVE IN THE MEMPHIS AREA WHERE THERE IS HEAVY INTERSTATE TRAFFIC I CAN NOT SAFELY DRIVE THIS CAR IN MULTIPLE LANE TRAFFIC SINCE IT MAY SUDDENLY LOSE POWER TO 1-2 MPH IN THE MIDDLE OF 70 MPH TRAFFIC. *TR
MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE STALLED ON ME AROUND MAY 5TH, 2013. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND RESTART IT AFTER A COUPLE MINUTES. AFTER THE SECOND TIME I TOOK IT STRAIGHT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. THEY RAN THE COMPUTER TEST ON IT AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. THEY CHARGED ME $40. THEY TOLD ME UNLESS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, THEY PROBABLY WOULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. IF IT DIED AND WOULDN'T RESTART, THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO FIND SOMETHING THEN ALSO. THEY SAID IT WILL COST ME $40 EACH TIME I BROUGHT IT BACK TO HAVE IT CHECKED. SINCE THEN IT HAS STALLED ON ME ABOUT FOUR MORE TIME, MOST RECENTLY 7/3/2013. EACH TIME HAS BEEN CITY DRIVING NOT ABOVE 30MPH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON THESE TIMES. I HAVE BEEN AVOIDING DRIVING IT MUCH BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. IT CONSTANTLY SURGES WHEN DRIVING AND SOMETIMES JERKS WHEN FIRST TAKING OFF FROM A START. WHEN AT A STOP LIGHT OR EVEN IN PARK WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING THE RPMS CONSTANTLY GO UP AND DOWN. *TR

CAR ACTED LIKE IT WOULD START, SPUTTERED AND WOULD NOT START BACK UP. WAITED 30 MINUTES. CAR STARTED BACK UP. LEFT PARKED, AS FELT DANGEROUS SITUATION IF WERE TO OCCUR ON INTERSTATE. DRIVING 70 MPH IN LEFT LANE OF 4 WAY INTERSTATE IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, MY CAR SUDDENLY LOST ALL ACCELERATION AND I COASTED TO A STOP ON THE LEFT SHOULDER. ENGINE STILL RAN, BUT CAR IDLED ROUGHLY AND LURCHED FORWARD. TURNED ENGINE OFF AND CALLED 911 AND AAA (WAS SITTING ON NARROW LEFT SHOULDER OF BUSY INTERSTATE AT RUSH HOUR). AFTER 10 MINUTES, CALLED 911 AGAIN AND THEY SAID HELP WAS STILL FAR AWAY SO I STARTED CAR AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR AS NORMAL SO MERGED INTO TRAFFIC FROM LEFT SHOULDER. BY GRACE OF GOD I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE WHEN POWER WAS LOST, NOT SURE I COULD HAVE MADE IT TO EITHER SHOULDER HAD IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS IN ONE OF THE MIDDLE LANES. ALSO GLAD MY 17 MONTH OLD SON WASN'T WITH ME, AS I WAS ON WAY TO PICK HIM UP FROM DAYCARE. TODAY (MAY 2), I DROVE CAR TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PROBLEM IS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. AM HAVING IT REPLACED. WAS TOLD THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. SCARY, THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO DIE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE MOTOR SHUTS DOWN. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO EVEN REV THE ENGINE AND INCREASE RPMS. IT WILL JERK AND JUMP FORWARD AS IF ITS TRYING TO ACCELERATE BUT WONT GO ANY FASTER THAN IDLE SPEED. IF I TURN THE ENGINE OFF IT WILL WORK PROPERLY FOR ABOUT 50 YARDS THEN SHUT DOWN AGAIN. *TR
VEHICLE SURGES AND THEN DIES WHEN STOPPING AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. VEHICLE WILL INSTANTLY RESTART AFTER PLACING IT IN PARK. AFTER FIRST INCIDENT VEHICLE HAS CONSTANTLY GOTTEN WORSE. DEALER STATED THROTTLE BODY WAS DEFECTIVE AND ORDERED NEW PART WHICH IS ON BACK ORDER. UNABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR SINCE IT IS SUBJECT TO DIE AT ANYTIME. *TR
THE REAR GATE WILL NOT OPEN. THE LOCK WILL NOT RESPOND TO THE POWER UNLOCK OR REMOTE AND THERE IS NO WAY TO GET IT OPEN. THERE IS NO ALTERNATIVE WAY TO OPEN THE REAR GATE AND COULD BE A PROBLEM IN AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE READ MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON LINE FROM OTHER ESCAPE OWNERS, THIS SEEMS TO BE A REOCCURING ISSUE WITH THESE VEHICLES, BUT IS NOT A RECALL, AND OFTEN TIMES THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. *TR

A FEW MINUTES LATER HELP ARRIVED AND THEY WERE ABLE TO TURN ON THE ESCAPE AND DRIVE IT INTO TOWN TO A CAR CENTER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST RAN. IT DID NOT PULL UP ANYTHING ON THE TEST. I AM TERRIFIED TO DRIVE IT NOW IN THE EVENT IT HAPPENS AGAIN. I AM LUCKY THERE WASN'T TOO MUCH TRAFFIC ON THE HIGHWAY THAT I COULD GET OVER QUICKLY AND OUT OF THE WAY. I WAS TRAVELING ON A FOUR LANE HIGHWAY IN SOUTHERN ILLINOIS WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL ON WHEN MY ESCAPE ACCELERATED SUDDENLY THEN JUST AS SUDDENLY LOST ALL ACCELERATION. RETURNED TO MY TOWN OF RESIDENCE AND TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP THEY KEPT IT THE REST OF THE DAY AND REPORTED " NO CODES, NO SSMS, NO TSB, RANT ETB TEST PASSED NO PROBLEMS FOUND AT THIS TIME. THE NEXT DAY I WAS IN TOWN GOING UP A HILL WHEN MY ESCAPE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UP HILL AND AGAIN SUDDENLY LOST ALL ACCELERATION. I THIS TIME COASTED INTO PARKING LOT. AGAIN VEHICLE WAS SURGING. I PLACED VEHICLE IN PARK WITH PARKING BREAK ON DUE TO THE POWER OF THE SURGES. CALLED DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED ISSUES AND MADE THEM LISTEN TO VEHILE WHILE IN PARK. THIS TIME SOMEONE FIGURED ISSUES AS THROTTLE BODY STICKING. THEY REPLACED THROTTLE BODY THAT DAY AND I HAVE NOT HAD TROUBLE SINCE. I AM ONLY FINDING OUT ABOUT THESE ISSUES AFTER SEARCHING WEB FOR SIMILIAR ISSUES AND FOUND THIS SITE AND OTHERS LISTING SAME ISSUES. THE ENGINE LOST POWER, BUT DID NOT STALL, WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND A WRENCH SYMBOL LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH BOARD. I STOPPED THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN JUST A FEW SECONDS LATER. I PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE ENGINE AND WAITED A FEW MINUTES THEN RESTARTED IT ONCE MORE. I MANAGED TO DRIVE ANOTHER 2 MILES AND THE PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. IT ONLY SEEMED TO HAPPEN IF I TRIED TO DRIVE FASTER THAN 30MPH OR TRIED TO ACCELERATE TOO QUICKLY. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE GINGERLY AND KEEP MY SPEED AT 25MPH AND I MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE TO THE MECHANIC ABOUT 13 MILES AWAY. THE PROBLEM HAPPENED ONCE MORE WHILE DRIVING TO THE MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC SAID THE THROTTLE BODY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND SUDDENLY I LOST POWER, THE RPM'S DROPPED TO 1500-2000. I PULLED OVER AND THE ENGINE WAS SPUTTERING LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO DIE, THE RPM'S WERE FLUCTUATING BETWEEN 1000-2000. I TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED A MINUTE AND STARTED IT AGAIN, SEEMED FINE. I STARTED DRIVING AGAIN, IT WAS OK FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED EXCEPT THIS TIME THE "WRENCH" LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AS WELL AS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED. I DIDN'T DRIVE THE CAR FOR A FEW DAYS, THEN TRIED DRIVING IT, THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE OFF AND IT SEEMED FINE. WORKED GREAT FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS, THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AGAIN. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC HE SAID IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HE TRIED TO ORDER THE PART FROM FORD, BUT HE WAS TOLD THAT THE PART WAS BEING RE-MANUFACTURED AND MAY NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR UP TO 3 MONTHS. I TRIED TO DRIVE MY CAR HOME, BUT ONCE AGAIN, THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE ONLY WAY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME WAS BY DRIVING 20 MPH WITH MY FLASHERS ON. I NOW HAVE A CAR THAT I STILL HAVE TO MAKE PAYMENTS ON THAT I CAN'T DRIVE BECAUSE THE PART IT NEEDS HASN'T BEEN MANUFACTURED YET. LOVE MY CAR, BUT THIS REALLY SUCKS! THERE NEEDS TO BE A RECALL! *TR
