OUR VEHICLE HAS STALLED FOUR TIMES, WITH TWO HAPPENING IN THE LAST WEEK. IN ALL INSTANCES, THE FLASHING WRENCH COMES ON, AND THE CAR BEGINS TO STALL/SURGE UNTIL YOU PULL OVER AND TURN THE CAR OFF. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO RESET AFTERWARD WITH NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. MY WIFE NARROWLY AVOIDED A WRECK WITH OUR TWO TODDLERS IN THE CAR TODAY. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND I AM FEARFUL FOR MY FAMILY'S SAFETY. *TR
MONKEY WRENCH WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATES ON THE DASH ACCOMPANIED BY A LOSS OF FUNCTIONALITY OF THE GAS PEDAL. I WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SINCE THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND AT ALL TO ANY PRESSURE ON THE GAS PEDAL. TURNED THE CAR OFF. RESTARTED THE CAR AFTER A FEW MOMENTS, LIGHT WAS OFF AND CAR FUNCTIONED NORMALLY. 2ND INCIDENT HAPPENED 5/22 ON THE FREEWAY AT 65 MPH. AGAIN, I WAS LUCKY ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO COAST TO THE EMERGENCY LANE. TURNED THE CAR OFF, WAITED, BACK ON AND CONTINUED DRIVING. 3RD INCIDENT HAPPENED A MILE FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD. I WAS ALREADY IN THE SLOW LANE SO AGAIN IT WAS EASY TO MANEUVER INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE. MECHANIC INDICATES THE THROTTLE BODY IS FAULTY AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT SPEED AND VEHICLE FUEL SYSTEM SEEMED TO SHUT OFF CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL AND SHUTTER. I WAS BARELY ABLE TO EXIT FREEWAY WITHOUT INCIDENT. SHUT ENGINE OFF AND RESTARTED AND VEHICLE FINALLY RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION, AT WHICH TIME I DROVE DIRECTLY TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY WERE IN PROCESS OF CLOSING FOR THE DAY AND VEHICLE HAD RESUMED PROPER OPERATION BY THEN AND DEALER FELT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE DAMAGED TO CONTINUE ON TRIP IF WE WISHED. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED 2 MORE TIMES BEFORE RETURNING HOME. WHEN HOME, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TOOK VEHICLE TO MECHANIC FOR INSPECTION AND IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY WHICH AS OF 5/30/13 ARE UNAVAILABLE DUE TO NATIONAL BACK ORDER. EVIDENTLY LOTS OF ESCAPES SEEM TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. I AM CURRENTLY ON LIST FOR THE PART IN QUESTION. VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 1 MONTH BUT NOT BY MILEAGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED AS THE CONTACT CLOSED THE HATCHBACK WITHOUT EXCESSIVE FORCE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BOTH TIMES AND THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THEY DID NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE FOR WINDOW REPAIRS. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BOTH TIMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. ...UPDATED 08/22/13 *BF
I PURCHASED A 2010 FORD ESCAPE LIMITED IN OCTOBER 2010. IN JUST TWO AND HALF OF YEARS OF HAVING THE VEHICLE AND UNDER 50,000 MILES, I HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY COSTING ME $385 (AFTER TALKING THE SERVICE GUY DOWN TO THAT PRICE). THE INCIDENT OCCURRED ON APRIL 24, 2013 WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK FOR LUNCH. I WAS DRIVING ON A BUSY ROAD WHEN MY CAR'S SPEED STARTED TO SLOW DOWN AUTOMATICALLY. I TRIED TO PRESS THE GAS BUT IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON. THERE WERE NO LIGHTS ON INDICATING A PROBLEM, SO I PULLED INTO THE FIRST PLACE I COULD, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND TURNED IT BACK ON. IT STARTED RIGHT BACK UP SO I DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT AND PULLED BACK OUT ONTO THE STREET. IT HAPPENED TWO MORE TIMES ON MY WAY HOME BEFORE I SAW THE FIRST MECHANIC SHOP AND TURNED IN. BY THE THIRD TIME THE (WRENCH) LIGHT CAME ON. SINCE I WAS STILL UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY THE MECHANIC TOLD ME IT WAS BEST TO GO TO THE CLOSEST FORD LOCATION. AFTER LOOKING AT MY CAR THEY TOLD ME THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND DUE TO WHAT TYPE OF PART IT WAS, THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY SO I HAD TO PAY THE FULL AMOUNT. THIS DOES NOT SEEM NORMAL GIVEN THAT THE CAR IS ONLY A FEW YEARS OLD AND LESS THAN 50,000 MILES. I AM FEARFUL THAT MORE PROBLEMS ARE TO COME... *TR
WHILE AT SPEED OR SLOWER DRIVING THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LOOSES ALL POWER. NORMALLY IT WILL CONTINUE TO RUN (IDLE), BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE AT ALL, LEAVING DRIVER AND OCCUPANTS ONLY ABLE TO COAST TO A PLACE OF SAFETY IF CAR IS MOVING. IN A CROSSING TRAFFIC SITUATION, THIS COULD BE DEADLY. MY SPOUSE AND I HAVE HAD SEVERAL INCIDENTS LIKE THIS AND THE DEALER HAS IDENTIFIED THE PROBLEM AS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. HOWEVER, THERE HAS BEEN A NATIONAL BACK ORDER ON THESE, AS EVIDENTLY LOTS OF THESE CARS HAVE THIS PROBLEM. PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR 2 TO 4 WEEKS OR LONGER AND THE VEHICLE IS ABSOLUTELY UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THIS CONDITION. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE (DETROIT) SAYS THE PART IN QUESTION IS SUPPLIED BY A VENDOR AND THEY ARE UNABLE TO KEEP UP WITH DEMAND, BUT FORD OFFERS NO ASSISTANCE IN TEMPORARY REPLACEMENT VEHICLE OR WITH THE EXPENSE OF REPLACING THE PART (MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY BY 45 DAYS EVEN THOUGH BY MILES WOULD STILL BE IN WARRANTY). SOMEONE SHOULD TAKE ACTION TO GET THIS RESOLVED BEFORE THERE ARE SERIOUS INJURIES/DEATHS RELATED DIRECTLY TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR

FAX LETTER FROM CONSTITUENT REGARDING A POTENTIAL COMPELLING SAFETY ISSUE WITH HER FORD ESCAPE PURCHASED FROM HERB CHAMBERS FORD OF BRAINTREE, MA; SHE BELIEVES FOR " NO REASON" IT LOSES ACCELERATION AND CAUSES THE OPERATOR TO "GLIDE" TO FIND SAFETY. *SMD UPDATED 06/30/14
WAS JUST PULLING OUT OF A GAS STATION AND HEADING TO THE ON-RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER. OPEN WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY THIS DID NOT OCCUR WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY. I WAS TRAVELING WITH MY 2 CHILDREN, BOTH UNDER THE AGE OF 2 1/2. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY. THEY ADVISED ME OF THE DEFAULT IN THE POWERTHROTTLE. THEY DID NOT TELL ME THAT AN INVESTIGATION IS CURRENTLY UNDERWAY, WHICH I FEEL SHOULD BE THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. I AM BEING CHARGED $500 TO HAVE IT FIXED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS ADVISED ME THAT SHOULD THEIR BE A RECALL THEN I WOULD BE REIMBURSED THE COST. WE PURCHASED THE FORD ESCAPE BECAUSE WE THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD PRODUCT, WE WILL GO BACK TO PURCHASING JAPANESE VEHICLES GOING FORWARDS. VERY DISAPPOINTED .... *TR
CRUISING ON A FOUR LANE RURAL HIGHWAY, NOT USING CRUISE CONTROL. VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ACCELERATION AND POWER. ENGINE REMAINED RUNNING BUT STEPPING ON THE GAS WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT LIT UP. TURNED HAZARDS ON, PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE (COASTING), APPLIED BRAKE, SHUT CAR OFF AND RESTARTED. CAR PROCEEDED FINE TO DESTINATION. SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 HOURS LATER AFTER CAR HAD BEEN SITTING. PROCEDED ONTO ANOTHER FOUR LANE RURAL HIGHWAY CRUISING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND THE VEHICLE DID THE SAME THING. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I PULLED OVER, TURNED VEHICLE OFF, THEN RESTARTED AND PROCEDED TO MY DESTINATION. AS THIS WAS A SUNDAY, I TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO LOCAL FORD DEALER, WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO CODE TO READ, BUT BASED ON MY ACCOUNT OF THE SITUATION, THEY FELT IT WAS A FAULTY THROTTLE BODY. THEY COULD NOT CONFIRM UNTIL THE VEHICLE WOULD THROW THE CODE AGAIN. THEY DROVE VEHICLE FOR OVER 30 MILES AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT EXPERIENCE THE SAME ISSUE. WITH OUT CONFIRMATION OF THE PROBLEM, THEY COULD NOT DEFINITIVELY FIX THE VEHICLE. *TR
NEED TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY ON MY 2010 FORD ESCAPE. I WAS DRIVING AND MY VEHICLE SUDDENLY FAILED AND STOPPED WORKING. I HAD A FEW SECONDS TO PULL OVER TO THE SHOULD BEFORE THE CAR TURNED OFF. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND GET TO MY DESTINATION, BUT AN ACCIDENT WOULD HAVE OCCURED HAD I BEEN MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN OR CROSSING LANES TRAFFIC. I TOOK MY CAR TO FORD AND WAS TOLD I HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH WILL COST JUST UNDER $500. MY VEHICLE IS 800 MILES OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY. I CALLED FORD AND LODGED A COMPLAINT. I ALSO KNOW SEE ONLINE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND SHOULD BE PART OF A RECALL. *TR
VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND STOP. VEHICLE RESTARTED AND HAD THE SAME ISSUE TWO MORE TIMES IN A 40 MILE TRIP. VEHICLE HAS CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM INTERMITTENTLY BOTH AT SURFACE STREET SPEED AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION WHERE THEY STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. ONE NIGHT I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA AND MY CAR STARTED TO RUMBLE, IT SHOOK BACK AND FORTH AND THE ENGINE STARTED TO SPLUTTER. THEN, THE ENGINE CHOKED AND THE CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. THE CAR SHUT ITSELF OFF. LUCKILY, THIS HAPPENED BEFORE I ENTERED THE FREEWAY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON AND AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A BATTERY PROBLEM. HOWEVER, AFTER THE CAR SHUT OFF I TRIED TO START THE CAR AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT FOR A COUPLE MINUTES UNTIL IT STARTED TO STALL AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES IN ONE NIGHT WITHIN A THIRTY MINUTE TIME FRAME. SO, I HAD TO WAIT A WHILE FOR MY ENGINE TO COOL DOWN. I TOOK IT TO GALPIN FORD MOTORS SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. I WENT BACK THE SECOND TIME TO GET MY VEHICLE RE-CHECKED AFTER TWO DAYS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN AND GALPIN FORD WAS STILL NOT ABLE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. I RECENTLY JUST TOOK IT BACK BECAUSE MY CAR CHOKED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AND I AM STILL DISAPPOINTED BY THE WAY GALPIN FORD SERVICES HANDLED THE SITUATION. I FEEL LIKE MY LIFE IS AT RISK DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS MAKE AND MODEL FOR INCIDENTS JUST LIKE MINE BECAUSE I'M SURE THIS IS A DEFECT WITH THE FORD ESCAPE MODELS. *TR

AS I ACCELERATE FROM A STOP POSITION SUCH AS A STOP SIGN, TRAFFIC LIGHT OR ACCELERATE TRYING TO GO UP AN INCLINE OR BRIDGE THE CAR LOSES ALL POWER. THE ENGINE STILL RUNS AND THE POWER STEERING STILL WORKS BUT AS YOU TRY AND PRESS DOWN ON THE PEDAL TO ACCELERATE NOTHING HAPPENS. EVENTUALLY THE CAR STOPS AND BEGINS TO SPUTTER. I TURN OFF THE CAR AND THEN START IT UP. THE CAR WORKS FINE FOR A FEW MILES BUT THE SITUATION HAPPENS AGAIN. *TR
DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY ABOUT 55 MPH AND SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND ENGINE APPEARED TO SHUT OFF CAUSING RAPID DECELERATION, THIS HAPPENED ABOUT APRIL 18, 2013 AND AGAIN MAY 24, 2013 BOTH TIMES ON THE FREEWAY. ALSO NOTED THAT CAR SURGES INTERMITTENTLY WHEN ACCELERATING DRIVING CITY STREETS. CALLED FORD AFTER FIRST INCIDENT AND TOOK CAR IN FOR SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE. NO MENTION OF ANY ISSUE WITH SAFETY OF CAR. LAST INCIDENT ASKED FORD TO DO A DIAGNOSIS AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A RARE OCCURRENCE HAVING TO DO WITH A STUCK THROTTLE AND IT WOULD BE OVER A MONTH BEFORE THE REPLACEMENT THROTTLE PART COMES IN AND I SHOULD NOT DRIVE THE CAR. THE REPAIR IS GOING TO BE SOMEWHERE IN THE RANGE OF 500-700 DOLLARS. FORD ALSO TOLD ME THAT THEY RECOMMENDED I HAVE SENSORS CLEANED ALSO DUE TO BUILD-UP WHICH COULD AFFECT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER??? CAUSED BY THE THROTTLE PROBLEM?? I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT NONE OF THIS REPAIR IS COVERED UNDER MY FACTORY WARRANTY. *TR
I WAS COMING DOWN A ROAD TO A STOP LIGHT WHEN THE CAR SHOOK THEN JUST IDLED. WHEN I LIMPPED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TURNED OFF CAR AND WHEN I RESTARTED IT THE LITE WENT OUT AND IT WAS FINE. *TR

TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE AT 70MPH DOWN I696 IN OAKLAND COUNTY MICHIGAN, VEHICLE WENT DEAD. "WRENCH" LIGHT CAME ON. I PULLED OVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER. CAR WAS RUNNING, HOWEVER NO POWER. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RE-STARTED. IT RAN FINE AFTER THAT. ONE MONTH LATER THE SAME ISSUE OCCURRED. THIS TIME TRAVELING 45MPH DOWN THE ROAD, VEHICLE WENT DEAD, I PULLED OVER , RE-STARTED. TRAVELLED ANOTHER 100FT, SAME ISSUE. TRIED AGAIN, THIS TIME WENT ABOUT 200FT, DIED. THE WRENCH LIGHT AND AMBER ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THIS TIME THE ENGINE LIGHT REMAINED ON AND THE ESCAPE WAS TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER ON MAY 18, 2013. AS OF MAY 31, 2013, THE THROTTLE BODY HAS BEEN ON BACK ORDER. VEHICLE SITS IN THEIR LOT AWAITING PART. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME HARD TO OPERATE WHEN I STARTED IT UP AND BEGAN TO DRIVE. THIS NOW HAPPENS ON OCCASION WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. THERE IS NO WAY TO KNOW WHEN IT MAY GET WORSE AND FAIL DURING A TURN OR AT HIGH SPEED. I HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS OF THIS SAME PROBLEM FROM THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL ONLINE. *TR
VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE. INITIALLY IT WAS INFREQUENT, BUT IT STARTED TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, CAUSING UNSAFE DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE THROTTLE BODY WAS THE REPORTED ERROR, WAS REPLACED AND NOW THE NEW THROTTLE BODY IS ACTING UP AGAIN WITH THE SAME ERRORS. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP BECAUSE THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER AND NO ONE ELSE HAS IT AVAILABLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON 270 IN GAITHERSBURG MARYLAND, MY FORD ESCAPE STALLED. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME MY VEHICLE STALLED. THE PREVIOUS TIMES IT WAS ON SHADY GROVE ROAD. THANKFULLY, WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON 270 I WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT INCIDENT. I TOOK MY CAR TO FORD SHEEHY IN GAITHERSBURG RIGHT AWAY AND I HAD TO RENT A CAR UNTIL MY VEHICLE WAS FIXED. THE MECHANIC SAID THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH WAS DEFECTIVE. I PAID $527.67. FOUR MONTHS LATER THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT BACK TO FORD SHEEHY. THIS TIME IT WAS THE PURGE VALVE. I HAD TO PAY $557.79 SO WITHIN THE SPACE OF FOUR MONTHS I HAD OVER $1,000 IN REPAIRS ON A VEHICLE THAT I BARELY DRIVE. WHEN I GO OUT OF TOWN, I RENT A CAR INSTEAD OF DRIVING MY FORD ESCAPE, BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING LONG DISTANCES. AFTER COMPLAINING TO FORD THROUGH EMAIL, THEY DENIED THERE WAS A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM AND THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THEY DON'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT A THROTTLE BODY PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AT ABOUT 60 MPH ON A 4-LANE FREEWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTED SLOWING DOWN FOR NO APPARENT REASON. EFFORTS TO APPLY MORE ACCELERATION FROM THE GAS PEDAL HAD NO EFFECT. I HAD TO CROSS THREE LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE BERM AND ACTIVATED MY HAZARD LIGHTS IN THE PROCESS AND MY SON WHO WAS FOLLOWING ME IN ANOTHER VEHICLE HAD TO BRAKE TO AVOID HITTING ME. I STOPPED THE VEHICLE AND RESTARTED IT AND IT APPEARED TO START OKAY BUT AN OPEN-END WRENCH APPEARED AS A WARNING LIGHT (THROTTLE CONTROL/POWER TRAIN). AFTER GETTING BACK UP TO SPEED AND MERGING WITH TRAFFIC THE SUV DIED AGAIN IN ABOUT 1/4 MILE. I PULLED OVER TO THE BERM AND RESTARTED A SECOND TIME. THIS TIME A SERVICE ENGINE SOON LIGHT APPEARED BUT THE SUV APPEARED TO RUN NORMALLY. I CONTINUED HOME AND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP ME UNTIL THE SERVICE GROUP CAME IN ON MONDAY. I ASKED TO TALK TO A MANAGER BUT THEY SAID THEY WERE ALL BUSY AND THAT I'D HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL MONDAY. I LEFT VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE UNTIL MONDAY AND THEN WILL TRY TO TAKE TO HAVE IT SERVICED. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON AND GAS PEDAL WENT SOFT , HAD NO POWER. PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE , TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR A FEW MINUTES. RESTARTED AND CONTINUED ON WITH NO PROBLEM. SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY. CAR IS AT OUR FORD DEALERSHIP NOW. *TR

CALLED FORD AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY/SENSOR AND THAT ITS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY (YET THEY NEW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS JUST BY ME EXPLAINING IT WHICH TELLS ME THAT ITS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO FIX). DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY 75MPH AND CAR COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF. NO WARNING. PULL OFF TO THE SIDE AND TURNED CAR OFF. PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED KEY OFF. AFTER A COUPLE SECONDS I TURNED KEY ON AND STARTED UP NO PROBLEM WITH NO WARNING LIGHTS ON. DID IT FOUR TIMES WHILE TRAVELING FROM FLORIDA TO TENNESSEE. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. *TR
I WAS TURNING A CORNER, THE CAR LOST POWER, WHEN I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR THERE WAS NO POWER. THE WRENCH AND ENGINE LIGHTS APPEARED. THEY HAD TO REPLACE THE THROTTLE BODY AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT ALSO NEEDED A BATTERY. HOWEVER, THE ENTIRE PROBLEMS WAS WITH THE THROTTLE BODY. SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE I WOULD EVERY NOW AND THEN FEEL IT LOSING POWER. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE THE TRANSMISSION BUT WHEN I TOOK IT IN FOR THEM TO LOOK AT THEY SAID "NO WE DROVE IT AND NOTHING SEEM WRONG WITH IT." AT THAT POINT IT WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY WARRANTY. I FEEL THAT THE SERVICE PEOPLE SHOULD HAVE GUEST IT WAS THE THROTTLE BODY SINCE SO MANY OF THESE VEHICLES ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM NOW FEELING THAT THERE WAS SOME DECEPTION. THE VEHICLE IS A 2010, THIS VEHICLE IS TOO NEW FOR IT TO NEED SUCH A MAJOR REPAIR. THE WARRANTY ON THESE VEHICLES IS SUBSTANDARD. WHEN I'M DRIVING MY CAR, IT WILL SUDDENLY STOP ACCELERATING AS THOUGH SOMEONE THREW THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, THE WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON AND I HAVE TO COAST OVER TO A SAFE AREA TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND TURN IT BACK ON. WHILE GOING ABOUT 65 TO 70 MPH ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY, I SUDDENLY STARTED TO LOSE SPEED AND WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE USING GAS PEDAL. THEY THEN TEST DROVE IT AND SAID IT SEEMED OK. WE HAD NO PROBLEM AFTER THAT UNTIL 4/29/13. MY WIFE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ON WAY TO WORK, PULLED OVER, AND TURNED THE CAR OFF. SHE THEN RESTARTED IT AND HAD NO PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED TO HER AGAIN YESTERDAY (5/5/13). OF NOTE, EVEN THOUGH THE PICTURE OF THE WRENCH SHOWED UP ON THE DASH, THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THERE WERE NO DIAGNOSTIC CODES SHOWING UP WHEN HE HOOKED IT UP TO THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER. IT ALSO DID NOT SHOW UP ON MY VEHICLE HEALTH REPORTS THAT I RAN. HE STATED THAT HE HAD TO CHECK WITH A FEW FORD SERVICE MANAGERS TO HELP HIM DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. VEHICLE WAS PARKED, FACING SOUTH, AND HAD BEEN THERE ABOUT 90 MINUTES. INCIDENT OCCURRED ABOUT 1:30 P.M. TEMPERATURE AROUND 35F. ENGINE HAD BEEN OFF SINCE SUV WAS PARKED. DEFROSTER WAS NOT ON. SHIFTING GEARS DOES NOT HAVE AN EFFECT AND YOU HAVE TO SHUT OFF THE CAR TO TURN IN BACK ON. THE AMBER WRENCH LIGHT COMES ON EVERY TIME AND THE FEW TIMES THAT IT HAPPENED CONSECUTIVELY IN ONE TRIP THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. ON MY FIRST VISIT TO A DEALERSHIP THEY REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE SECOND TIME THEY NOTICED MY TRANSMISSION WAS EATING ITS FLUID SO THE FILLED UP THE FLUID. THE THIRD TIME THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED MY TRANSMISSION AND THE MOST RECENT THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY. THIS SEEMS TO COINCIDE WITH THE OPEN INVESTIGATION PE13003. I HAVE HAD THE CAR MALFUNCTION OCCUR WHEN ACCELERATING THROUGH 65 TRYING TO GET ONTO A HIGHWAY. HAD IT HAPPEN TWICE AT 15 MPH IN A PARKING LOT. FORTUNATELY FOR ME I WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO FLIP MY HAZARDS ON QUICKLY AND THE OTHER VEHICLES WERE ABLE TO GET AROUND ME WHILE I STOPPED ON THE ROAD, BUT THIS SITUATION IS HIGHLY UNSAFE ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS ON HIGHWAY WHEN YOU HAVE TO PULL OVER AND STOP THE CAR TO FIX THE SITUATION. I SAT THERE FOR HALF A MI UTE AND DECIDED I WOULD TRY TO DRIVE THE SHORT DISTANCE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. I TURNED THE ENGINE ON AND THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY STARTED TO STALL/HEAVE AGAIN. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND AS I BACKED OUT OF THE SPACE I COULD FEEL THE ENGINE BECOME SOMEWHAT NORMAL AGAIN. DROVE STRAIGHT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP. *TR

BUT OTHER TIMES THE CAR WILL ONLY TRAVEL A FEW YARDS BEFORE DOING IT AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING WITH A LIGHT ON. FINALLY IT HAPPENED ONE DAY WHEN I WAS CLOSE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND SAID MY THROTTLE BODY WAS DIRTY. THEY CHARGED ME $406 TO "CLEAN" IT. THE NEXT DAY AFTER PULLING INTO THE PARKING LOT WHILE IN PARK IT STARTED DOING THE SHUTTER THING AGAIN. I TOOK IT STRAIGHT BACK AND WITHOUT A LIGHT ON THE DASH THEY COULDN'T TELL ME WHAT WAS WRONG. IT DID THIS 4 MORE TIMES UNTIL MY FIANCE' AND I WERE ON THE INTERSTATE GOING 75 AND IT DID IT AND JERKED SO BADLY WE ALMOST WRECKED. HIS FATHER HAD A DIAGNOSTIC CODE READER TO HOOK UP TO CARS AND THE CODES CAME BACK AS THE THROTTLE BODY DOOR WAS JAMMED OPEN AND THE OTHER CODE SAID IT WAS JAMMED OPEN AT THE SAME TIME? WE TOOK IT BACK TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID A TON OF PEOPLE WERE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE BUT TO CLEAN IT AGAIN. WE SAID NO BECAUSE THAT DIDN'T SOLVE THE PROBLEM LAST TIME. INSTEAD WE WANTED TO BUY A NEW THROTTLE BODY. THE DEALER SAID IT IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER BECAUSE EVERYONE IS HAVING HUGE PROBLEMS WITH THROTTLE BODY PARTS SO WE WOULD HAVE TO TOUGH IT OUT UNTIL SOME CAME AVAILABLE. DRIVING ON HIGHWAY @ 65 MPH - LOSS OF GAS PEDAL CONTROL - I COULD PRESS THE GAS PEDAL AND IT WAS AS IF IT WAS DISCONNECTED - THERE WAS NO RESPONSE AT ALL - CAR STARTS LOSING SPEED IN MIDDLE OF HWY - I HAD TO COAST TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD -- THE ENGINE KEPT RUNNING - ENGINE WAS SKIPPING AS IT COASTED TO A STOP - THE WRENCH LIGHT CAME ON ALONG WITH SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT - AFTER SITTING STILL FOR 10 MINUTES VEHICLE WILL START UP AND RUN AS USUAL - I TOOK TO DEALERSHIP FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE FORD ESCAPE 2010 - THEY HAD 10 ON ORDER WITHIN 2 WEEKS - THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY IS ON NATIONAL BACKORDER AND I CAN'T GET AN ANSWER ON WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE - CALLED FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS GOT NO WHERE - THE THROTTLE INCIDENT STARTED WEEKLY AND NOW IT HAPPENS 1 - 2 TIMES A DAY - IT IS NOW UNSAFE TO DRIVE- CAR LOOSES POWER WITHOUT ANY NOTICE - HAS HAPPENED AT STOP LIGHT / INTERSECTION / RR CROSSING / ROADS WITH NO SHOULDER / INTERSTATE - I NEED A VEHICLE THAT I CAN DEPEND ON DAILY TO GET ME HOME SAFETY - IF THE DEALERSHIP TELLS ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORD ESCAPE WHY CAN'T THE PART BE RECALLED AND FIX THE THROTTLE BEFORE IT FAILS - PAYING FOR THE PART ISN'T AN ISSUE - GETTING THE PART TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS THE ISSUE - FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE THROTTLE AND DOESN'T HAVE PARTS AVAILABLE AND CAN'T TELL ME WHEN THEY WILL BE AVAILABLE. MY WIFE WENT OUT TO HER 2010 FORD ESCAPE THIS MORNING. SHE RETRIEVED SOMETHING OUT OF THE BACK OF THE TRUCK, CLOSED THE REAR LIFT GATE AND THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED INSTANTANEOUSLY, SHOWERING HER WITH GLASS. SHE WAS FORTUNATELY WEARING GLASSES, SO NONE REACHED HER EYES. *TR
VEHICLE'S THROTTLE STOPPED WORKING IN TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT 35 MPH AND HAD TO COAST VEHICLE TO SIDE OF ROAD WHERE ENGINE WAS IDLING ROUGHLY BUT NO RESPONSE TO PRESSING ACCELERATOR PEDAL. VEHICLE NEEDED TO BE SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED SEVERAL TIMES TO GET THROTTLE WORKING AGAIN. VEHICLE EXHIBITED THIS PROBLEM MANY TIMES OVER LAST 30 DAYS (EVEN AT 65 MPH WE LOST THROTTLE ON INTERSTATE AND HAD TO COAST OFF IN TRAFFIC). WE HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE IN AVOIDING AN ACCIDENT. TOOK VEHICLE TO SERVICE STATION WHICH READ COMPUTER READING AND SAID "THROTTLE BODY ACTUATOR" NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT I SHOULD GO TO LOCAL FORD DEALER ASAP AS THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR A 2 YEAR OLD VEHICLE WITH THIS DANGEROUS CONDITION. FORD DEALER INFORMED ME THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL AND THAT ITS JUST SOMETHING THAT HAPPENS AND THAT IT WOULD BE $399 TO FIX. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND I WILL NOT LET MY FAMILY DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNTIL FORD FIXES THIS ISSUE AT FORD'S EXPENSE. I RESEARCHED ONLINE AND THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING A LOT TO MANY OWNERS. THIS NEEDS AN IMMEDIATE MANDATE BY NHTSA TO FORD TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS LIFE THREATENING DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. *TR
2010 FORD ESCAPE XLT (V6) IS HAVING REPEATED INCIDENTS (AT RANDOM INTERVALS) OF THROTTLE FAILURES. VEHICLE SUDDENLY HAS NO "GAS PEDAL", IDLES ROUGHLY (800 TO 1000 RPM) AND HAS TO BE COASTED TO SIDE OF ROAD. ONLY WAY TO RESET IS TO PUT VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURN OFF (DANGEROUS ON INTERSTATES OR IF IN LEFT LANE AND NO PLACE TO PULL OFF), RESTART AND MOST CASES THE PROBLEM IS ELIMINATED FOR HOURS, DAYS OR MORE. SOMETIMES IT CAN OCCUR MANY TIMES WITHIN A SHORT DRIVE PERIOD AND THEN GO AWAY FOR HOURS OF ISSUE-FREE DRIVING. ENGINE SERVICE LIGHT (WRENCH) CAME ON ONE DAY AFTER SOME EXTREMELY ROUGH IDLING CAUSED BY ISSUE (ENGINE BUCKED A BIT) AND SERVICE STATION READ COMPUTER ANALYSIS AS "THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM" WAS STUCK OPEN AND CLOSED. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS PROBABLY DEFECTIVE AND DANGEROUS AND THAT I SHOULD PROCEED TO MY FORD DEALER ASAP. I TOOK VEHICLE TO FORD DEALER (3/20/13) AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THE THROTTLE BODY SHOULD BE REPLACED, BUT SAID NO RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED SO I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR REPAIR. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THIS FOR A 2 YEAR OLD CAR. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND I WOULD EXPECT A MANUFACTURER TO FIX THIS PROBLEM IMMEDIATELY AND SHOCKED AT THEIR NONCHALANCE REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. I WENT HOME AND GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND I SEE MANY ARTICLES AND AGENCIES LOOKING INTO THIS PROBLEM SO APPARENTLY I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I AM NOT ALLOWING THE MY FAMILY MEMBERS TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE DUE TO THIS SAFETY ISSUE UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED BY FORD AT THEIR EXPENSE. THIS COULD BE A MAJOR LAWSUIT (INJURY OR EVEN FATALITIES) DUE TO THE SAFETY OF HAVING TO "LIMP OFF" A BUSY ROADWAY WITH NO WARNING AND BECOMING A TARGET. *TR
