I HAVE TO REFILL COOLANT EVERY 10-14 DAYS. THE COOLANT INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON AND IT IS DOWN TO THE MINIMUM LEVEL. THE WATER PUMP HAS BEEN REPLACED AND DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. THERE IS NO VISIBLE LEAK. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAVE LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE AND CANNOT FIND THE PROBLEM. IT STARTED IN MAY, 2018 AND HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE. THE WATER PUMP WAS REPLACED IN JUNE, 2018.
WHEN I TURNED ON THE CAR TO GET BACK HOME FROM THE GROCERY STORE THE SCREEN SHOWED "STEERING WHEEL AT FAULT." THE STEERING WHEEL WAS VERY HARD TO TURN AND I HAD TO GET HOME SO I MANAGED TO GET THE CAR TO THE HOUSE. THE NEXT MORNING, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN AND BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM I COULD NOT TAKE MY CAR TO A TRIP WHERE I HAD ALREADY PLANNED, NOW I CAN'T DRIVE IT TO WORK EITHER, IT HAS BEEN TWO DAYS AND THE SAME PROBLEM REMAINS.
OURS IS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE WITH ONLY 37,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. IT'S HARDLY BEEN DRIVEN FOR A SIX YEAR OLD CAR AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATION.UPON STARTING THE CAR IN THE DRIVE MODE, THERE WAS A PRONOUNCED "CLUNK" SOUND FROM BELOW THE CABIN SECTION OF THE CAR. THE CAR WOULD BEGIN MOVING FORWARD AND THEN SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL. THIS SITUATION CONTINUED FOR ABOUT 1/10 OF A MILE. WHILE TURNING AROUND TO RETURN HOME, THE SAME THING HAPPENED IN THE REVERSE MODE. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER AS IT APPEARED TO BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ON A HIGHWAY. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS CLUTCH AND TRANSMISSION FAILURE. COST TO REPAIR $4,300.00. SEEMS TO ME THAT THERE HAS TO BE A BASIC DEFECT IN THE PRODUCT HAVING READ SO MANY OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE. ADDITIONALLY AND IN RETROSPECT, THE ENGINE WOULD BEGIN RACING TO A HIGH RPM IN THE PARK MODE WITHOUT A FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS WAS A DISTURBING PHENOMENON.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE (1.6L ENGINE) ON AN INTERSTATE, I WAS TRAVELING AT 80MPH ON CRUISE CONTROL. SUDDENLY THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS DEACTIVATED AND I FELT A JOLT. I THEN OBSERVED A MESSAGE ON THE DASH WHICH READ ENGINE OVERHEATING, STOP SAFELY. I THEN OBSERVED THE ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, THE COOLANT NEEDLE GO TO THE RED HOT LEVEL, AND I BEGAN TO LOOSE ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT OVERHEATING AND WAS LATER CONFIRMED AT A NEARBY CAR REPAIR. ONCE STOPPED AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART, LOSS OF STEERING HAD BEGUN. MILEAGE DURING INCIDENT WAS 80,200. AFTER TAKING IT TO FORD REGARDING NEWER RECALL MSGS, THEY ADVISED THE STEERING RACK WAS NOT COMMUNICATING WITH THEIR DIAGNOSTIC AND MUST BE THE REASON FOR THE REPAIR. REPAIR HAS NOT BEEN COMPLETED AFTER READING INCIDENTS AND COMPLAINTS REGARDING SIMILAR ISSUES/CONCERNS. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE ANOTHER RECALL ISSUE.
PURCHASED NEW IN 2013 - 43,000 MILES CURRENTLY. FOUR EPISODES OF A JERKING MOTION BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 0 TO 45 IN 5 YEARS. I PURCHASED 5 YR AND 100,000 MILE WARRENTY. THE TIME RAN OUT 2 MONTHS AGO. THIS TRANSMISSION HAS A S FEATURE AND AS IT WOULD STOP THE JERKING WHEN IT WAS CUT OFF AND RESTARTED IT SEEMED TO BE A COMPUTER PROBLEM. IT HAPPENED ABOUT ONCE A YEAR AND ALWAYS "RESET" WHEN TURNED OFF. I WONDERED IF THERE WAS A SILENT RECALL OR OTHER PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THIS EXPERIENCE. I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DRIVING WHEN THIS OCCURS AND IT IS RANDOM....LEAVING A STOP, OPEN ROAD STOP AND GO. I ACTUALLY CALLED FORD THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED AND THEY WERE SENDING A TOW TRUCK. THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED OVERNIGHT AND I THOUGHT TO TURN IT AROUND IN THE DRIVEWAY SO IT WOULD GO ON THE TRUCK FORWARD. DROVE DOWN STREET TO TURN AROUND AND NOTHING....CANCELLED THE TOW. NOTHING LIKE IT FOR ANOTHER YEAR??? I FEEL THIS MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH THE "S" (SPORT SHIFT) FEATURE. I HAVE NEVER USED THIS FEATURE AT ALL...AT AGE 75, I AM OVER THAT. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN SERVICE TWICE A YEAR SINCE PURCHASE. THE MANUAL SAYS CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID AT 150,000 MILES. THE SUDDEN AND VIOLENT JERKING WHILE IN TRAFFIC IS TERRIFYING TO SAY THE LEAST AND ALTHOUGH THERE HAS NOT BEEN AN ACCIDENT, I AM CERTAINLY NERVOUS ABOUT THE FUNCTION OF THE VEHICLE.
I HAD TO REPLACE ALL THE LUG NUTS DUE TO SWELLING, BECAUSE THE DESIGN OF THE ORIGINAL IS DEFECTIVE. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE PCM AND MAP ON JAN.7 2016, I PURCHASE THIS VEHICLE IN APRIL OF 2018, THE VEHICLE IS STILL HESITATING AND WANTING STALL THIS HAPPENS WHEN IN PARK OR COMING TO A STOP. SO THE PROBLEM WAS NOT FIXED. ALSO, THE MYFORD TOUCH SCREEN SOMETIMES WILL NOT RESPOND, WON'T CONNECT A PHONE OR THE RADIO WILL NOT WORK, THIS HAPPENS WHEN FIRST GETTING IN TO START THE VEHICLE. THIS ALL STARTED SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER BUT THEY WOULDN'T FIX IT.
RECENTLY IT DIED WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY. I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY THAT I COULD GET OFF THE ROAD, AND THAT THERE WAS NOT A MAJOR ACCIDENT. MY CAR TURNS OVER, BUT WILL NOT RESTART. AFTER MY MECHANIC HAD IT FOR A DAY, HE CONTACTED ME STATING IT HAS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND THAT HE WAS CALLING THE FORD DEALERSHIP, DUE TO IT BEING FAULTY AND THAT THEY SHOULD FIX IT. I THEN WAS CALLED BACK AND HE CONFIRMED WITH AUBURN FORD, IN AUBURN, CAN, THAT THERE WAS A RECALL THAT COULD FIX THE PROBLEM AND THAT THE DEALER HAD TO DO THE REPAIRS, WHY I CALLED FORD, I WAS TOLD THERE WAS ONLY 1-RECALL FOR THE DOORS. AFTER I TOLD HIM THE MECHANIC WAS TOLD THERE WERE 2, HE CHANGED HIS STORY. HE THEN SAID THERE WERE 2-RECALLS, BUT NEITHER WOULD FIX MY CAR. HE THEN STARTED I WOULD NEED TO PAY $ TO HAVE THEM DIAGNOSE IT.
ENGINE STALLED ON MAJOR FREEWAY. MECHANIC AND FORD DIAGNOSED IT WITH THE TURBOCHARGER FAILING. IE; LITERALLY CAME APART. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ARE NOW ALSO DAMAGED DUE TO THE TURBOCHARGER FAILING AND GIF KNOWS WHAT ELSE. THERE WERE NO CODES, THE ENGINE SYSTEM, STATED THAT THERE WERE NO ERRORS.
SWOLLEN LUNG BUT ISSUES. HAVE ALREADY HAD TO REPLACE SOME, NOW WE ARE HAVING TO REPLACE MORE!
ALL 2013 FORD ESCAPES HAVE BAD TRANSMISSIONS AND WHEN IT SLIPS IT CAUSES THE TIMING BELT IN THE ENGINE TO FAIL CAUSING THE ENGINE TO FAIL.
ENGINE OVERHEATING. ON MAY 14, 2018 AT APPROXIMATELY 71102 MILES, MY VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS "OVERHEATING" DUE TO WATER PUMP FAILURE. THE WATER PUMP FAILED BECAUSE 2 OUT OF 4 BOLTS WERE NOT THERE. THIS RESULTED IN THE PULLEY BENDING AND SEVERAL OTHER ISSUES. IT WAS THE FIRST AND ONLY WARNING OF SUCH A PROBLEM. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR LESS THAN 1 YEAR (PURCHASED USED). I WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE FRONT AXLE REQUIRES REPLACING (CLICKING NOISE). RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I FOUND THAT SEVERAL OTHER 2013 FORD ESCAPE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. MY QUESTION IS HOW FORD GOT AWAY WITH ONLY BEING RESPONSIBLE FOR REPAIRS ON LESS THAN 7000 VEHICLES.
IN MAY 2018 I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE, PULLED OUT OF A PARKING SPOT ONCE THE VEHICLE CORRECTED TO PULL AWAY I ATTEMPTED TO PUT THE VEHICLE INTO DRIVE AND THE GEAR SHIFT WOULD NOT MOVE HOWEVER THE GEAR SHIFT WAS READING THE VEHICLE IN PARK. DUE TO READING I WAS IN PARK I BELIEVED IT SAFE TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE AND ATTEMPT TO RESTART IT HOWEVER IT WAS NOT IN CORRECT GEAR AND WOULD NOT START. I BELIEVING THE VEHICLE WAS IN PARK, SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND QUICKLY REALIZED I DID NOT HAVE ANY CONTROL ANY LONGER, AND TO PREVENT AN ALMOST ACCIDENT WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGAN ROLLING DOWN A STEEP HILL IN SOUTHERN MIDDLE TN AND AS I ONE THIS WAS DONE, I PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BEFORE COLLIDING WITH ANOTHER CAR AND MY VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED. IT WAS WHEN IT WAS AT THE MECHANICS THAT IT WAS DISCOVERED THE SHIFT CABLE BUSHINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I SAW IN LATE JUNE 18 OR EARLY JULY 18 THAT THEIR WAS NUMEROUS RECALLS FOR THIS SAME EXACT THING THAT HAPPENED TO MY VEHICLE HOWEVER MY VIN IS NOT PART OF THAT.

MY FRONT BUMPER CAME APART 2 WEEKS AFTER PURCHASE AT A PLACE WHERE THE METAL WAS WELDED AND THEN CAME HALFWAY OF ALL PIECES FELL OFF ATTACHED TO FRONT BUMPER AND NO COLLISION TOOK PLACE HOWEVER WHEN I BACKED UP OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE IT CAUGHT ON THE CURB AND PULLED APART EVEN MORE. 2. SINCE PURCHASE AFTER FILL UP THE ENGINE CRANKS HOWEVER WILL NOT TURN OVER WITHOUT APPLYING A LITTLE GAS. 3. NOW YESTERDAY I HAVE TOO TURN ON IGNITION TWICE TO START EVERYTIME I NEED TO TURN ON THE CAR. 4. I ALSO HAD 5 RECALLS THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT MAKE ME AWARE OF FIXED ( THEY ONLY SAID REAR SEATBELTS HAD TO BE REPLACED) WELL SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED 3 DOORS WOULDN'T LATCH I HAD TO ROPE MY DOORS SHUT UNTIL I COULD GET INTO SEWEL FORD. MY FAMILY HAS BEEN IN SO MUCH DANGER IN THIS VEHICLE. I AM A 40 YEAR OLD DISABLED WOMAN WITH 3 CHILDREN, MY STEP -DAD IS BLIND, MY BROTHER IS TERMINALLY ILL AND NEEDLESS TO SAY I NEED A RELIABLE VEHICLE IN ONE PIECE. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL AND THE DMV RESPONDED THAT AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN SET OUT TO DETERMINE HOW MUCH OF THIS IS MANUFACTURE DEFECT AND WHAT PART THE DEALERSHIP PLAYED BY NON- DISCLOSURE OF REMAINING RECALLS MAKING ME BELIEVE THEY WERE CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY BY FIXING THE REAR SEAT BELTS.
STUTTERING WHEN IDLE, USUALLY AFTER FILLING THE TANK UP. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. GIVING ERROR CODE P1450. I HAVE ALREADY HAD EVAP VENT SOLENOID FIXED TWICE IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR(2018) LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN TODAY. SAME CODE
THIS HAPPENED 2X IN MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHEN I PRESSED ON THE GAS PEDAL THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. LUCKILY I HAPPENED TO BE IN SAFE AREAS WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAD TO SHUT DOWN AND RESTART THE CAR IN ORDER TO DRIVE IT. I BROUGHT IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THE THROTTLE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $1800. I COMMUTE 120 MILES A DAY - I CANNOT AFFORD TO BE IN AN UNSAFE CAR WITH MY CHILDREN.
PURCHASED FORD ESCAPE IN 2014. HAD 39,000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH THE SHIFTING IN THE ENGINE. TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED IT WOULD COST SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS TO REPAIR IT. I TOOK THE ESCAPE TO A REPUTABLE SHOP IN TOWN AND THEY FIXED IT. THE COST WAS $4,346.00. IT HAS COME TO MY ATTENTION THERE IS A COURT SETTLEMENT TO REIMBURSE BUYERS WHO WERE INDISPOSED BY THE DEFICIENCY OF THIS VEHICLE. PLEASE REIMBURSE ME FOR FAULTY PARTS.
The purge valve (whole system) has failed on my vehicle when it was on less than 5 years old. This can cause for the vehicle to pause which is dangerous. Because my purge valve (whole system) failed, not only did input my family at risk for danger, I now have to pay out of pocket to have this repair. I did not have the money to get it repair and now that I do I have to pay over $600. Ford has recognized that this is a systemic issue, however they somehow were able to focus their recall to specific manufacturers which did not cover all including my vehicle.
The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 30 mph, the power steering warning light illuminated and shortly afterward the vehicle lost power steering functionality. The contact manually pulled the vehicle over to the side of the road, waited a few minutes, and then restarted the vehicle. The power steering warning light was gone, and the power steering functionality returned. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer to be inspected however, the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 101,149.
EVERY TIME WE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP THE ESCAPE STALLS AND YOU NEED TO RE-START THE CAR. I'VE BROUGHT TO A DEALER AND THEY THINK ITS THE TORQUE CONVERTORS WHICH IS INSIDE THE TRANSMISSION. SOME ESCAPES WITH THIS SAME YEAR HAVE BEEN RECALLED ALREADY BUT WHEN I CHECKED WITH MY DEALER THEY SAID MY HAS NOT. THEY ESTIMATED THE COST OF THE FIX AT $4000.
MY AIR CONDITIONING TURNS FROM COLD & THEN INSTANTLY TO WARM. THE BLOWER IS STILL ON BUT NOT AS STRONG WHEN IT TURNS WARM. IF ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND THEN BACK ON THE AIR COMES ON COLD. SPEED DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FACTOR FOR IT HAPPENS AT DIFFERENT TIMES, IN TOWN DRIVING SPEEDS AND ALSO ON THE HIGHWAY/FREEWAY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS. THE FASTEST I GO IS 80 ON THE HIGHWAY. I DRIVE 110 MILES FROM LAS VEGAS TO MESQUITE, NV EACH WEEK AND HAVE TO STOP AT LEAST 3-4 TIMES TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE OFF & TURN IT RIGHT BACK SO THE COLD COMES BACK ON. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR I LIVE IN THE DESERT AND DRIVE FROM LAS VEGAS, NV 110 MILES ACROSS THE DESERT EACH WEEK. I DID TAKE IT INTO FORD AND THEY CHARGED ME $240.00 DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE THE AC BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE & FIND THE PROBLEM. THEY STILL CHARGED ME. SYSTEM PRESSURE AT 30/160. ANOTHER MECHANIC, WHO USED TO WORK FOR FORD TOLD ME FORD KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, HAS HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME SITUATION. I AM AFRAID EVERY TIME I DRIVE THE CAR, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS 100 + DEGREES OUT. THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED STARTING IN MAY WHEN IT TURNED WARM HERE IN THE LAS VEGAS AREA AND I STARTING USING THE AIR CONDITIONER.

THE CONTACT GRABBED THE DOOR HANDLE, BUT WAS DRAGGED BY THE VEHICLE DOWN THE STREET UNTIL IT STOPPED AT AN INCLINE. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MULTIPLE BRUISES ON HER STOMACH AND INJURIES TO THE WRIST, HUMERUS, AND GREAT TOE, WHICH REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (COUNTY FORD, 105 AUTO PARK DRIVE, GRAHAM, NC 27253, 336-226-6301), BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED CASE NUMBERS: [XXX] AND [XXX]. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. FREEZE PLUG IS LEAKING COOLANT AND ENGINE IS STALLING WHILE DRIVING COOLANT STARTED LEAKING AROUND 11/10/17 AND THE STALLING STARTED OCCURING 4/27/18 AND NO RECALLS HAVE BEEN ISSUED TO MY VEHICLE BUT ARE HAVING SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALLS THAT OUR PRESENT FOR OTHER ESCAPES

THE LUG NUTS WERE MANUFACTURED WITH A PLASTIC COVER, WHICH COULD DETERIORATE OVER TIME AND CAUSE MOISTURE TO ENTER THE LUG NUT. AS A RESULT, THE LUG NUT COULD SWELL AND BECOME IMPOSSIBLE TO REMOVE IF THE TIRE NEEDED TO BE CHANGED. AUTONATION FORD WESTLAKE (23775 CENTER RIDGE RD, WESTLAKE, OH 44145, (440) 296-3019) WAS THE DEALER THAT SERVICED THE VEHICLE. THE LUG NUTS WERE REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND PROVIDED CASE NUMBER: 321186. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,453.

THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND RESTART THE ENGINE. THE DEALER (AUTONATION FORD AMHERST, 8000 LEAVITT RD, AMHERST, OH 44001) WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,600. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
2013 FORD ESCAPE SE BOUGHT 3/29/17AT THE TIME THE 12V DC POWER OUTLET, AUX PORT & USB PORT DID NOT WORK. 4/22/2018 THE VEHICLE STOPPED ON THE PA TURNPIKE IMMEDIATELY AFTER I RECEIVED A WARNING 'HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE, PLEASE STOP VEHICLE SAFELY'. SERVICE APPOINTMENT FOR 4/25/18 & WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE ENGINE COOLANT BYPASS SYMPTOMS, ISSUES WITH THE WATER PUMP & 2-3 OTHER ISSUES THAT WERE ALL COVERED UNDER FORD RECALLS &FORD WEXFORD WOULD FIX IT ON 4/30/18. 5/4/18 INFORMED THAT THEY HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO CONTACT FORD WEXFORD FOR AN UPDATE. I CONTACTED FORD WEXFORD & WAS INFORMED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE A 2013 FORD ESCAPE TO REPAIR. I RECEIVED A CALL BACK INFORMING ME THAT FORD WEXFORD WAS UNAWARE THAT THE SUV WAS AT THEIR LOT SINCE 4/30/18 & THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO SERVICE IT UNTIL THE FOLLOWING WEEK. 5/10/17 I PICKED UP THE SUV AND WITHIN 24 HOURS STARTED HAVING ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS/SIGNALS INCLUDING THE SERVICE ENGINE, SEATBELT, BATTERY, BRAKES, HILL ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE, HIGH ENGINE TEMPERATURE STOP SAFELY AND THE SPEEDOMETER NOT FUNCTIONING. I CONTACTED JD BYRIDER WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THAT IT COULD POSSIBLY BE THE BATTERY, STARTER OR ALTERNATOR. I WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO AUTO ZONE TO HAVE A COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE 5/17 & WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE TO GO BACK TO FORD WEXFORD. I SPOKE WITH ANDY AT FORD WEXFORD AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE SUV HAD A WIRING ISSUES THEY WEREN'T ABLE TO FIX, THAT THE SUV WOULD NEED A NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM AND THAT THIS WOULD BE 1-2 WEEKS. I WAS ALSO TOLD THEY HAD A CALL OUT TO FORD CO. TO DISCUSS THEIR CONCERNS. ON 5/31/18 I RECEIVED A CALL INFORMING ME THAT THE SUV NEEDED A NEW COMPUTER SYSTEM, THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY AND THAT THE COST WOULD BE $1100.
COOLANT LOSS/LEAK THAT GREW OVER TIME TO A LARGE LEAK/FIRE RISK NOW. OVER THE PAST YEAR COOLANT LEVEL WOULD FALL AND NEED TO BE ADDED EVERY FEW MONTHS. THE WATER PUMP HAS NOW FAILED AT 76K MILES CAUSING A LARGE COOLANT LEAK COVERING THE ENGINE/UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE IN COOLANT. IT HAS NEVER OVERHEATED BUT THERE IS A RISK OF FIRE FROM THE COOLANT LOSS ON THE HOT ENGINE/EXHAUST PARTS. THE VEHICLE HAS ALREADY BEEN REPROGRAMMED ON A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR THE REDUCED POWER MODE IF TEMP RISES/COOLANT LOSS WHEN THE TURBOCHARGER WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY FOR A LEAK. CALLED LOCAL FORD DEALER SHIP (GRAPEVINE FORD IN TX) AND WAS TOLD NO OPEN RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE. THEY PERFORMED THE WARRANTY REPLACEMENT OF THE TURBOCHARGER FOR LEAKS AND PERFORMED PCM UPDATE FOR TEMP/REDUCED POWER LIMITER.
DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT ALL THE WHY.
WHILE ARRIVING HOME (ALMOST ENTERING MY GARAGE), SUDDENLY I HAVE THIS MESSAGE ON SCREEN 'STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED' AND IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER THE VEHICLE. SEARCHING ON THE INTERNET I'VE FOUND A LOT OF PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM AND HOW IS POSSIBLE THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THAT.
ENGINE COOLANT POURS OUT OF SYSTEM. RESERVOIR DOES NOT HOLD COOLANT LONGER THAN 2 DAYS.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK LAST FRIDAY AND I SUDDENLY HEARD THE ALERT SIGNAL AND DASHBOARD LIGHT AND THEN I COULDN'T TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. THE ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH SAID "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED". I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL ENOUGH TO GET IT OFF THE ROAD. LUCKILY I WAS ONLY GOING ABOUT 35 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. THE POWER STEERING HAD FAILED AS I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. THERE WERE MANY OTHER CARS AROUND ME, BUT LUCKILY THEY AVOIDED ME. I HAVE ONE REPAIR QUOTE FOR $2000 TO REPAIR THE ENTIRE POWER STEERING RACK AND PINION SYSTEM, OF WHICH WE CANNOT PAY. WE TOOK IT TO 2 OTHER MECHANICS WHO REPORTED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT WAS AN ELECTRIC SYSTEM AND HAD TO BE REPROGRAMMED BY THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT. FROM MY RESEARCH, THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE FORD HAD WITH THEIR 2008-2011 FORD EXPLORERS.

THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 12V551000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 96,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE CAR WILL RANDOMLY STALL AND DIE WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES. IT CAN BE AFTER REVERSING AND PULLING FORWARD, OR WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT AND START MOVING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO 2 DEALERSHIPS AND NEITHER OF THEM CAN FIND OUT WHAT IS WRONG OR HOW TO FIX IT.

I STARTED UP THE CAR AND STARTED BACKING OUT OF A PARKING SPACE. COULD NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND AN ERROR MESSAGE POPPED UP ON THE DASHBOARD "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED. ON A 2013 FORD ESCAPE WITH 90K ON IT. I WAS ABLE TO TO GET IT TOWED TO A GARAGE AND THEY ARE REPLACING MY STEERING COLUMN FOR $1800. MY 1967 MUSTANG WITH NO POWER STEERING WAS EASIER TO TURN THAN THIS CAR. LUCKILY WE WERE IN A SAFE SPOT.

FIRE HAZARD. I HEARD STRANGE VIBRATING SOUNDS INSIDE THE CABIN. FROM THE OUTSIDE I NOTICED A PIECE OF ALUMINUM TOUCHING THE GROUND. THIS TURNED OUT TO BE THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD THAT BECOME COMPLETELY UNWRAPPED. THE FLIMSY HEAT SHIELD IS MADE OF FIBER GLASS INSULATION AND ALUMINUM FOIL. THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER IS EXPOSED NOW TO THE FLOOR AND CAN START THE CARPET FIRE INSIDE THE CAR. THIS ISSUE WAS KNOWN IN 2014 AND CAR MAGAZINES REPORTED THEN THAT THIS WILL BE ADDRESSED BY FORD, BUT FORD DECIDED NOT TO ISSUE RECALL.
