TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE JERKED, SHOOK, AND SPUTTERED. EVENTUALLY, THE SHIFTER BECAME STUCK IN THE NEUTRAL POSITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE FRACTURED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE "COOLANT LOW SERVICE REQUIRED" AND "SERVICE ENGINE" WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. ALSO, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL. THE CONTACT DROVE TO A FUEL STATION AND BOUGHT COOLANT FOR THE VEHICLE. AFTER ADDING THE COOLANT WITH THE VEHICLE PARKED FOR NO MORE THAN FIVE MINUTES, THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE "COOLANT LOW SERVICE" WARNING MESSAGE WAS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED; HOWEVER, THE "SERVICE ENGINE" INDICATOR WAS STILL ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE NEXT DAY, THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO SAMES FORD (6001 SAN DARIO AVE, LAREDO, TX 78041) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WATER PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE WATER PUMP, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED THREE WEEKS LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO CONTINUE TO WORK WITH THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES TO HAVE THE WATER PUMP, COOLANT BOX, AND RADIATOR HOSE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE FAILURES STILL OCCURRED. THERE WERE NO RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER TODAY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD ESCAPE. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 50 MPH. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE OVERHEAT WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL OTHER TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER (RON CARTER FORD LOCATED AT 3005 FM 528 RD, ALVIN, TX 77511; (281) 331-8111), BUT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER CONTACTED THE FORD HOTLINE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AT 866-436-7332. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
I WENT TO A USED CAR DEALERSHIP ON 05/20/2017, SAW THE 2013 FORD ESCAPE AND WAS VERY INTERESTED. I TEST DROVE THE CAR MULTIPLE TIMES, CHECKED FOR EVERYTHING I KNEW TO CHECK FOR AND DECIDED THAT I WANTED TO PURCHASE THE VEHICLE. ON MY DRIVE HOME ( 2 HOUR DRIVE) BECAUSE I HAVE ALWAYS SHOPPED THROUGH THE SAME DEALER, AND HALFWAY HOME MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP YESTERDAY 05/23/2017 AND FOUND OUT THAT THE TURBOCHARGER ENGINE WAS NOT WORKING, I WASN'T EVEN AWARE THAT THIS CAR HAD A TURBO CHARGER ENGINE.. KIND OF SURPRISED FORD WOULD PUT A TURBOCHARGE ENGINE IN A SUV. ANYWAY, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE PART WOULDN'T CAUSE IMMEDIATE DAMAGE, BUT EVENTUALLY THE TURBO ENGINE WOULD START FALLING APART AND WOULD CAUSE METAL DEBRIS TO SHOOT INTO MY EXHAUST, CAUSING A WHOLE WORLD OF OTHER ISSUES. THE PART TO HAVE REPLACED IS ON BACK ORDER UNTIL AUGUST BECAUSE APPARENTLY MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME CAR ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES. ITS GOING TO COST ME 1400.00 TO FIX THIS ISSUES BECAUSE I BOUGHT THE CAR "AS IS". NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THE CAR DOESN'T EVEN NEED A TURBOCHARGER ENGINE, BUT SINCE IT WAS BUILT IN, ITS SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO KEEP, YOU CANT JUST GET RID OF IT. AND APPROXIMATELY EVERY 50K MILES, ITS GOING TO NEED REPLACED AGAIN!!! I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF ANY OF THIS WHEN I PURCHASED THE CAR, AND AM NOW STUCK PAYING 11K FOR A CAR THAT ISN'T WORTH ANYTHING TO ANYONE WHO KNOWS ABOUT THE MAJOR ISSUES IT WILL CONTINUE TO HAVE. NOT TO MENTION THE LIST OF INSANE RECALLS. I FEEL LIKE I WAS LIED TO, MISLEAD ABOUT THE CONDITION OF THE CAR BUT UNFORTUNATELY, AS FAR AS I CAN TELL, THERE ISN'T ANYTHING I CAN DO ABOUT IT. INTERMITTENT CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (HAPPENS WHEN IN PARK OR WHEN DRIVING). HOOKED UP TO CODE READER AND GOT P026B7; FOUND ONLINE THAT THE THE ENGINE COOLANT BYPASS VALVE IS DEFECTIVE, BUT NOT RECALLED (TSB 13-02-15). DEALER CONFIRMS CODE AND THAT ENGINE COOLANT BYPASS VALVE IS DEFECTIVE AND SHOULD BE REPLACED BUT REFERENCED TSB 16-0052. DESPITE THE PART BEING SO DEFECTIVE IT HAS BEEN DISCONTINUED, REDESIGNED, AND REPLACED THE DEALER CLAIMS IT ISN'T COVERED UNDER ANY FORM OF WARRANTY.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE COOLANT IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
I'VE OWNED MY VEHICLE FOR 1 1/2 YEARS AND 5 TIMES NOW IT HAS LOST ENGINE COOLANT. THERE IS A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AND MY VEHICLE MEETS ALL CRITERIA TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT THE VIN NUMBER IS NOT INCLUDED. THE DEALER HAS CHANGED THE WATER PUMP, PRESSURE TESTED, REPLACED THE BATTERY AND REPLACED THE HEATER HOSE. AT THIS POINT, IT IS STILL LOSING FLUID AND THE DEALER STATES THAT IF I WANT THE WORK DONE THAT THE RECALL RECOMMENDS, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER (PARKS FORD OF WESLEY CHAPEL, 28739 FL-54, WESLEY CHAPEL, FL, 813-907-7800) WHERE A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE FAILURE COULD BE CAUSED BY WRONG FUEL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
STRONG EXHAUST ODOR INSIDE OF VEHICLE CAUSING HEAD ACHES AND NAUSEA WITH LIGHT HEADEDNESS. DEALERSHIP SAIS THEY DON'T SMELL ANYTHING BUT ME AND MY PASSENGERS DEFINITLY DO.
VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AWAY FROM A MECHANICS SHOP FOR A FLY WHEEL REPAIR. AFTER APPROX. MILE OF DRIVING, THE TEMPERATURE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED WITHOUT THE GAUGE SHOWING A HIGH TEMPERATURE. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, NO MATTER HOW I PRESSED ON THE ACCELERATOR, THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE OVER 5 MILES AN HOUR. I HAD TO NAVIGATE ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. IT DROVE FOR LESS THAN 50 FT THEN THE ENGINE COMPLETELY SHUT OFF FORCING ME TO PUSH THE CAR INTO A PARKING LOT. MECHANICS CAME, LOOKED OVER THE CAR THEN IT STARTED NORMALLY. THEY DROVE IT BACK TO THE SHOP AND HOOKED IT TO A COMPUTER BUT NO CODES WERE THROWN. WE COULD NOT RECREATE THE ISSUE. WE DECIDED TO FILE A COMPLAINT BECAUSE OF OUR CONCERN OVER ALL THE BLOGS FOUND ONLINE REFERENCING THE SAME ISSUE. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE VERY HAZARDOUS IF IT HAPPENS ON A HIGHWAY WHICH COULD RESULT IN BODILY INJURY. THIS COMES AFTER THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP FOR OVER 4 MONTHS IN THE 8 MONTHS WE HAVE OWNED IT FOR MANY ISSUES INCLUDING TRANSMISSION, TRANSMISSION BRACKET, TRANSMISSION PLUG FAILURE, WIPER MOTOR, FLY WHEEL AND A SENSOR ISSUE.
HAD TO REBUILD TRANSMISSION AND LOST POWER STEERING . THE CRUISE CONTROL DOES NOT WORK ALSO
"STEERING ASSIST FAULT" ERROR OCCURRED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION. COMPLETE LOSS OF ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING. PULLED THE CAR OVER, RESTARTED THE VEHICLE, PROBLEM DID NOT RETURN. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AS A PRECAUTION AND THEY REPRODUCED THE ISSUE. THEY TELL ME THAT SOMETHING CALLED ELECTRONIC STEERING GEAR, PART NO. CV6Z3504AGE MUST BE REPLACED. THE CAR IS NOT YET 4 YEARS OLD.
MY 2013 ESCAPE IS HAVING ALL OF THE ISSUES THAT ARE TALKED ABOUT IN THE RECALL OF 2014 ESCAPES REGARDING LOW ENGINE COOLANT CAUSING ENGINE FIRES. THE WATER PUMP HAS ALREADY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND NOW THE "LOW ENGINE COOLANT" WARNING COMES ON REPEATEDLY. WHY ARE 2013 ESCAPES NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ANNOUNCED IN MARCH?
VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET AND THE ENGINE RUNNING TO HOT STOP SAFELY ALERT CAME ON AND THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPING. THIS HAPPENED TWICE. HAD MY MECHANIC CHECK IT OUT. HE DID A SCAN AND 2 CODES CAME UP P1299 CYLINDER HEAD OVER TEMP AND P1940 ENGINE COOLANT LEVEL SIGNAL NOT AVAILABLE DUE TO DRIVING CONDITION.. HE DID AN INSPECTION AND CONFIRMED ENGINE COOLANT LEAKING FROM THE WATER PUMP. THERE WAS A RECALL ON 2013 FORD ESCAPES MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 10/5/2011-8/31/2012. MY CAR WAS MANUFACTURED 12/12.

STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND CANNOT STEER THE VEHICLE. TOD DATE, THIS HAS HAPPENED WHILE STATIONARY. I PRAY IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WHILE MOVING. DIAGNOSED AS STEERING RACK ISSUE AT A COST OF $1,000 PLUS LABOR.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2013 FORD ESCAPE AT NIGHT AND MY INSTRUMENT CLUSTER INFORMATION DISPLAY WITH SYSTEM WARNINGS AND ODOMETER DISPLAY STARTED BLINKING COLORS, THEN BLACK AND WHITE, AND ON AND OFF. IT HAS GONE BLACK SEVERAL TIMES AND THEN IT SEEM TO WORK FINE FOR A SHORT TIME, AND THEN IT WILL ALL OF A SUDDEN START AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS ON STREETS, HIGHWAYS, DAY AND NIGHT. THIS STARTED 3 WEEKS AGO. MY ODOMETER IS AROUND 50,000. I CHECKED ON LINE FOR RECALLS AND HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER 2013 OWNERS FINDING THE SAME THING THAT I DID, THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS ON THE 2014 MODELS (RECALL (15C03 - REPROGRAM INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER) ISSUED AGAINST 2014 FORD ESCAPE FOR THE SAME ISSUE) BUT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 2013 MODELS. PLEASE HELP.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE WIPER WILL RANDOMLY STICK IN THE UP POSITION. THIS CAUSES BOTH WIPERS TO STOP WORKING, MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. IT WILL EVENTUALLY START WORKING AGAIN. SOMETIMES ON IT'S OWN, OR SOMETIMES I ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW AND GIVE IT A PUSH. THIS DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK IMMEDIATELY, RESULTING IN A HAZARDOUS SITUATION. THEN THE SAME THING MAY HAPPEN AGAIN IN A MINUTE OR TWO, OR NOT AT ALL THAT DAY. I DON'T SEEM TO SEE ANY PATTERN IN WHAT MAKES IT STOP, HIGHWAY OR CITY, WIPERS ON INTERMITTENT OR NOT, IN THE RAIN, OR ONCE JUST TRYING TO WASH THE WINDOWS BY SQUIRTING THE FLUID. IT SEEMS COMPLETELY RANDOM.
CATASTROPHIC LOSS OF BRAKING AT 65 MPH ON HIGHWAY WITHOUT WARNING. SATURDAY EVENING APRIL, 29, 2017 ON I-85 SOUTHBOUND WHILE SLOWING FROM 65 MPH TO EXIT AT SOUTH HILL, VA DRIVER (DAUGHTER) APPLIED BRAKES AND HAD NO POWER ASSIST. THIS PRODUCED A PEDAL THAT WAS STIFF AND HER ENTIRE BODY WEIGHT HAD TO BE USED TO CAUSE ANY SLOWING. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED USING THE GRADE OF THE RAMP AND E BRAKE. THE VEHICLE HAD NO WARNING LIGHTS OR INDICATIONS OF FAILURE. AFTER TOWING IT HOME SUNDAY APRIL 30TH IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED A VACUUM PUMP FAILURE. THE VACUUM PUMP BEING SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEM CAUSES IMMEDIATE LOSS OF BRAKING ON FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS CAUSED BY CONDITIONS SIMILAR TO THOSE PRESENT IN THE BELT DRIVEN VACUUM PUMP ON 2011-2012 FORD F-150 ECOBOOST. SEVERAL DAYS LATER WHEN THE DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO FIX THE VACUUM PUMP THEY FOUND THAT THE FAILURE CAUSED THE CAM CORE COUPLER TO SHEAR. THIS ALLOWED METAL SHARDS INTO THE OIL WHICH THEN CARRIED THEM TO THE ENGINE AND TURBO DAMAGING BOTH. THE DEALERSHIP CAME BACK WITH AN ESTIMATE OF $6000 FOR JUST THE REPAIRS WITH A NEW ENGINE, HOWEVER THEY INFORMED US THAT THE TURBO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS WELL DUE TO THE DAMAGE. WORKERS AT THE DEALERSHIP REPORTED THAT THE COST TO FIX THE CAR FAR OUTSTRIPPED THE RESIDUAL VALUE. MILEAGE FAILURE WAS 60,921. DUE TO THE 921 MILES FORD HAS THUS FAR REFUSED TO CONSIDER ANY RECONCILIATION. AFTER EXTENSIVE RESEARCH WE HAVE FOUND THAT THIS FAILURE IS COMMON AMONG ECOBOOST ENGINES AND MAY BE MORE PREVALENT THAN IMMEDIATELY EVIDENT. A BRAKING FAILURE OF THIS MAGNITUDE COULD EASILY CAUSE SERIOUS INJURIES OR FATALITIES. IN THE CASE OF MOST WRECKS INVOLVING PRIVATELY OWNED VEHICLES THOROUGH INVESTIGATION OF CAUSE IS UNCOMMON. IF THE OCCUPANTS WERE UNABLE TO RECALL OR COMMUNICATE THE CAUSE OF THE WRECK DUE TO INJURY OR DEATH IT WOULD GO UNREPORTED.

I BOUGHT A USED 2013 FORD ESCAPE FROM DEALERSHIP ON 3/9/17. CAR HAD 1 PREVIOUS OWNER AND 29265 MILES ON IT. BY 4/20/17 THE CAR WOULD NOT START WHILE STATIONARY WITH NO INDICATION OF ANYTHING BEING WRONG. I HAD THE DEALERSHIP LOOK AT IT IMMEDIATELY WHEN THIS HAPPENED AFTER GETTING IT TOWED BY AAA WHOM ALSO TESTED THE STARTER AND BATTERY EVERYTHING WAS READING NORMAL . THE CAR STARTED ON ITS OWN. A WEEK LATER IT HAPPENED AGAIN WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AT CVS AFTER BEING DRIVEN FOR 10 MINUTES I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND AAA, AFTER WAITING 45 MINUTES FOR AAA TO ARRIVE I TRY STARTING THE CAR SEVERAL TIMES WITH NO AVAIL UNTIL I SEE AAA PULLING INTO THE CVS PARKING LOT I TESTED TURNED THE KEY 1 MORE TIME AND THE CAR STARTED. THE AAA TECH CHECKED THE STARTER AND BATTERY AGAIN EVERTHING READ NORMAL. I DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND LEFT WITH THE SAME OUTCOME OF THEM NOT KNOWING WHAT IS WRONG. THIS PROBLEM CONTINUED UNTIL MY WARRANTY RAN OUT AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP ME ANYMORE BECAUSE THE CAR IS STILL DRIVEABLE. I TRIED EXERCISING THE LEMON LAW BY REPORTING THE DEALERSHIP TO OFFICE OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS AND BUSINESS REGULATION AND WAS TOLD THEY CAN ONLY MEDIATE AND NOT MUCH COUKD BE DONE BECAUSE MY WARRANTY WAS OVER. HERE WE ARE 8/12/2018 AND THE CAR STILL HAS PROBLEMS AND WILL START AFTER WAITING ANYWHERE FROM 5 MINUTES TO 3 HOURS ALSO IT,CONSTANTLY LEAKS ATIFREEZE AND HAS TO BE REFILLED EVERY FEW WEEKS DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS THE CAR WILL SAY " HIGH TEMPERATURE COOLANT LOW" OUT OF THE BLUE WITHOUT ANY INDICATION FROM THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE. For several years, we have been taking the car to the dealer because we continue to have to top off the reservoir with antifreeze. At our most recent service visit, we were informed that there could possibly be a crack in the engine block causing the antifreeze to leak into the engine. This is the same problem as a recall associated with the same year, make and model vehicle. The recall number is 12V431000
AFTER SHORT DRIVES AND USUALLY A 15 MINUTE TO 30 MINUTE REST, THE CAR STARTS UP BUT AFTER SHORT DRIVES THE CAR BEGINS TO STALL OUT LIKE FUEL IS CUT OFF AND DIES AFTER DRIVING A VERY SHORT DISTANCE. PUTTING THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND GIVING IT GAS DOES NOT STABILIZE THE CAR AND IT DIES. DOES DO THIS ALL THE TIME BUT IT HAS HAPPENED 7 OR 8 TIMES OVER A 2 MONTH PERIOD.. MY CAR WILL NOT HOLD COOLANT. HAS BEEN TO SHOP MANY TIMES.OVERHEATS. SHUTS DOWN. A HUGE RECALL ON THIS HOWEVER FORD WON'T FIX MINE BECAUSE IT WAS ALREADY RECALLED FOR SAME REASON IN 2014 AND SUPPOSEDLY FIXED. IT'S DANGEROUS AND FORD WON'T WORK W ME AT ALL. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO TAKE THE EMISSION TEST AFTER IT DID NOT PASS THE FIRST ONE. I SPENT OVER SIX HUNDRED DOLLARS O HAVE THE CODES ADDRESSED AND FIXED SUPPOSEDLY. MY VEHICLE FAILED THE TEST AGAIN WITH ONE OF THE SAME CODES AS BEFORE AND ONE NEW ONE RELATING TO THE FUEL SYSTEM. CODES ( ) ( ). I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED, FRUSTRATED AND VERY, VERY CONCERNED. ESPECIALLY HAVING CONTINUAL ISSUES WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM, IT IS GETTING VERY EXPENSIVE FOR ME. I AM A SINGLE, DISABLED, ELDERLY FEMALE WHO CANNOT AFFORD TO KEEP TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE SHOP TO BE SERVICED EVERY MONTH WHEN IT IS A 2013 AND SHOULDN'T HAVE SO MANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS. I GET MY OIL CHANGED AS SCHEDULED AS WELL AS BRAKES CHECKED AND TIRES REPLACED AS NEEDED. I REALLY AM IN NEED OF A RELIABLE VEHICLE BECAUSE I AM DISABLED AND I WAS SO SURE THAT THE FORD ESCAPE WAS THE ONE SINCE I HAD DRIVEN AN EXPEDITION FOR 10 YEARS WITH VERY LITTLE PROBLEMS. POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE FAILED, CAR WAS IN A PARKING LOT NOT MOVING. VEHICLE REFUSED TO START, ON A 4.5 YEAR OLD CAR WITH APPROXIMATELY 47K MILES. THIS WILL REQUIRE A REPLACEMENT COSTING $2,200 INCLUDING PARTS, LABOR AND TAX.
CAR HAS BEEN LOSING COOLANT DURING THE PAST YEAR. I HAVE ADDED COOLANT WHENEVER LOW-LEVEL ALARM CAME ON, AND TAKEN TO MECHANIC MULTIPLE TIMES WITHOUT ANY LEAK BEING DISCOVERED. COOLANT NEEDS TO BE ADDED AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. I NOTICED A RECALL ON 2014 1.6L FORD ESCAPES FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THE SAME PROBLEM EXISTS WITH MY 2013 1.6L.
VEHICLE WAS IN DRIVE, THE ENGINE WAS MAKING A NOISE AND AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKE FOR A TURNING CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I WENT TO APPLY THE GAS AND IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, WHILE ON A STATE ROAD AND THEN MOVED THE GEAR SHIFT INTO DRIVE AND GOT IT TO A GARAGE ABOUT TWO BLOCKS AWAY FROM THE INCIDENT. SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND ONE OF THEIR MECHANICS TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE, CAME BACK AND SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. SO I GOT IN THE CAR AND ABOUT 3 TO 4 MILES UP THE ROAD, IT STARTED ACTING UP AGAIN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I PURCHASED IT FROM AND AFTER REPLACING A WATER PUMP, COOLANT LEVEL SENSOR AND AXLE SEAL, THEY TOLD ME IT WAS FIXED, SO I WENT TO PICK IT UP. AFTER I PAID $822.08 FOR THE BILL, I DROVE THE VEHICLE A BLOCK AND THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN, SO I DROVE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THEM THAT THEY DIDN'T FIX THE ORIGINAL PROBLEM THAT I BROUGHT IT IN FOR. THEY CONTACTED ME THAT IT IS SOMETHING IN THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. NOW I AM LEFT WITH A YEAR OF CAR PAYMENTS ON A VEHICLE THAT ISN'T DRIVABLE. IT DOESN'T APPEAR THAT FORD OR THE DEALERSHIP IS GOING TO STAND BEHIND A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT. THE VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN DRIVEN OFF ROAD OR ABUSED, ACTUALLY I HAVE TAKEN IT FAITHFULLY FOR ALL RECALL REPAIRS AND SERVICING NEEDS.
2013 FORD KUGA 60,000 KM. AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. ENGINE STALLS AT RANDOM WHILE DRIVING. STALLS BOTH AT HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS. HAS BEEN INTO DEALER FOR SERVICE FOR TWO MONTHS, FOR THE FIRST 7 WEEKS THEY "COULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THEY COULD NOT FIND AN ERROR CODE". AFTER I DROVE IT IN A CIRCLE AROUND THE DEALER FOR HOURS I WAS ABLE TO SHOW THEM THE PROBLEM AND THEY OBTAINED AN ERROR CODE, 'SOLENOID'. FORD SAYS "MAYBE JUST REPLACE WHOLE TRANSMISSION BECAUSE WE'RE NOT SURE OF THE PROBLEM"
OUR ESCAPE DEVELOPED A CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD THAT IS ALLOWING COOLANT TO LEAK INTO THE ENGINE. WE PURCHASED IT USED LESS THAN TWO YEARS AGO. AT THE TIME IT HAD 55K MILES AND NO ACTIVE RECALLS. CURRENTLY THERE IS 65K MILES ON THE ESCAPE. MULTIPLE RECALLS FOR THIS ENGINE HAS BEEN ISSUED MANY HAVE WHICH RESULTED IN A SIMILAR ENGINE PROBLEM. SUPPOSEDLY FORD HAS PERFORMED THE RECALL WORK THIS OUR CAR, BUT THIS PROBLEM HAS COME UP. THEY WANT US TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR WORK EVEN THOUGH IT SEEMS LIKELY THAT IT'S RELATED TO RECALL REPAIRS THAT WERE NOT CORRECTLY COMPLETED. THE RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS ENGINE ARE #13V583000, 12V551000, 12V431000. THE FIRST INVOLVES A CRACKED HEAD AND THE OTHER TWO INVOLVE LEAKING COOLANT (WE'VE LOST AN ENTIRE RESERVE TANK IN A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME). WHEN WE TOOK IT IN THE FIRST TIME TO HAVE IT CHECKED THEY PERFORMED A PRESSURE TEST AND COULD NOT LOCATE ANY COOLANT LEAKS AND TOLD US TO CONTINUE DRIVING IT UNTIL IT REGISTERED WITH LOW COOLANT AGAIN. THIS SECOND TIME WAS WHEN WE BROUGHT IT IN AND THEY TOLD US ABOUT THE CRACKED CYLINDER HEAD.
SINCE THE RECALL ON THE COOLANT SYSTEM, THE COOLANT LOW WARNING HAS COME ON SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY FORD SERVICE MANAGERS SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE CLOSED SYSTEM HAS AN AIR BUBBLE IN IT. HOWEVER, THE COOLANT LEVEL IS LOW AND DOES REQUIRE ADDITIONAL FLUID. THE LOW COOLANT WARNING COMES ON AT START UP (IGNITION). ONCE IT GOES ON, IT MAY STAY ON OR GO OFF AND ON OVER SEVERAL DAYS. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN EVIDENCE OF A LEAK IDENTIFIED BY A SERVICE TECHNICIAN OR IN FLUID LEFT AFTER PARKING (PUDDLING). THE ENGINE ROUTINELY SMELLS HOT AFTER DRIVING 10 MINUTES OR MORE.
I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY 70 INTO KANSAS CITY WITH MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN. I NOTICED THE VEHICLE SMOKING AND PULLED OVER ONTO AN OFF RAMP. I POPPED THE HOOD AND BEFORE I COULD COMPLETELY OPEN IT, MORE SMOKE CAME BILLOWING OUT. I QUICKLY GRABBED MY CHILDREN OUT OF THE VEHICLE AND WITHIN 30 SECONDS THE ENGINE WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE THAT ADDITIONAL VINS WOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA TO FILE A COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.

I CALLED OUR LOCAL DEALER IN AUGUSTA GA AND THEY STATED THEY ONLY SEE ONE DOOR LATCH RECALL FOR OUR VEHICLE AND SINCE OUR CAR WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED THEY WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM.
Im having the same issues as the current recall and have been having nonstop issues with my 2013 ford escape that dealerships/mechanics can't seem to figure out or won't figure out, but it says that mine isn't part of that recall, but I believe it should be. Now I have a newborn so these issues worry me even more.
