WHILE DRIVING, LEFT REAR TIRE BLEWOUT, CAUSING MAJOR DAMAGE TO VEHICLE. TIRE SIZE P27560R17, DOT ADT044T. *AK THIS VEHICLE IS A FORD TRUCK EXPEDITION MODEL YEAR 2000. CONSUMERS WIFE WAS OPERATING VEHICLE. VIBRATIONS WERE FELT. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AND CHECKED TIRES FOR PRESSURE. THE TIRE PRESSURE WAS NORMAL. CONSUMER CONTINUED DRIVING AND THE LEFT REAR TIRE BLEW. DAMAGE AQUIRED CAME FROM THE TIRE FRAGMENTS.*JG GENERAL GRABBERS.
THE CONSUMER RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE ON THE GENERAL TIRE FAILURES AND REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES. THE CONSUMER WAS SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE COST OF REPLACING THE TIRES. DOT # ADTO44T2100. *YH
TREAD SEPARATION OF LEFT REAR TIRE AND ROLLOVER ON INTERSTATE 75 IN COLLIER COUNTY, FLORIDA.*AK
THERE ARE SEVERAL INCIDENTS, WITH DIFFERENT SYMPTOMS INVOLVING THE ELECTRONIC AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION BEGINNING 4/00, THIS HAS BECOME AN ONGOING PROBLEM. BACK IN SHOP AT THE MOMENT, GOING INTO 4X4 BY ITSELF. THE INCIDENT THAT I REPORTED, INVOLVED COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE RANGE SENSOR, VEHICLE COULD SUDDENLY NOT SHIFT BEYOND SECOND GEAR ON THE INTERSTATE. MAX SPEED I COULD MAINTAIN WAS 50MPH AT 3400RPM'S. DEALER REPLACED SENSOR, 30 MILES LATER WENT OUT AGAIN, NEXT DEALERSHIP REPLACED AGAIN AND MAIN PROCESSOR. NOW UNANNOUNCED GOES INTO 4X4 DIFFICULT TO TURN, AND THEN IN A FEW MILES, GOES BACK OFF. THIS SYMPTOM, IS NOW THE SECOND OCCURRENCE IN 2 YEARS.

ENGINE WAS ON WITH VEHICLE IN PARK WHEN IT SUDDENLY BEGAN ROLLING BACKWARDS. CONSUMER MANAGED TO JUMP IN AND SAW SWITCH LEVER WENT INTO REVERSE ON ITS OWN. *AK THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE. CONSUMER PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED THE ENGINE OFF. THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACKWARDS. CONSUMER STARTED VEHICLE AND PULLED FORWARD, PLACED IN PARK AND VEHICLE ROLLED. THE MECHANIC FOUND A ROCK IN THE SHIFTING MECHANISM ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION. *JG

WHILE TRAVELING ON 40MPH HOUR ON HIGHWAY BOTTOM OF VEHICLE DROPPED DOWN IN REAR OF SUSPENSION.*AK
ALL FOUR VEHICLE TIRES HAD SEPARATED TREAD, ONE MAJOR, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVEN OVER 70 MPH HIGHWAY AND WAS NOT TAKEN OFF-ROAD AT ANY TIME. TIRES WERE REPLACED BY DISCOUNT TIRE 1300 E EXPRESSWAY 83 MCALLEN TX 956-668-9789 ON 6-18-2002. TIRES WERE KEPT INFLATED PROPERLY, ALIGNMENT MAINTAINED WITH NORMAL TREAD WEAR ON TIRES. ONE TIRE HAD BEEN REPAIRED FOR A FLAT. GENERAL TIRE WAS CONTACTED AND DEMONSTRATED NO CONCERN OVER FOUR TIRE TREADS SEPERATING ON ONE VEHICLE UNDER NORMAL USE ON 6-19-2002. I BELIEVE GENERAL HAS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE WITH THIS TIRE THAT NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION.*AK

WHILE DRIVING AT 45-55 MPH DRIVER'S FRONT TIRE FELL OFF COMPLETELY, CAUSING VEHICLE TO BECOME UNDRIVEABLE. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER HAS FIXED PROBLEM.*AK
INITIAL CONTACT WITH ONCOMING VEHICLE AT 35 MPH. NO AIR BAGS WNET OFF. BOUNCED OFF CAR AND HIT A TELEPHONE POLE STRAIGHT ON THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE AND AGAIN NO AIR BAGS WENT OFF.*AK
HEAD ON COLLISION AT 35 MPH, NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. DRIVER SUFFERED MINOR INJURIES.*AK CONSUMER AND ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT HEAD ON, THEREBY KNOCKING CONSUMER INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. NEITHER COLLISION IGNITED THE AIR BAGS TO DEPLOY. A FORD REP INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE IMPACT DID NOT SET OFF THE INERTIA SWITCH. THERE ARE PICTURES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. *JG
I HAVE A 2000 FORD EXPEDITION. LAST JUNE, JUST AFTER HAVING THE CAR SERVICED, I NOTICED MY GENERAL GRABBER TIRES DELAMINATING AND COMING APART. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALER AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE TIRES, BUT TO SAVE ANY RECEIPTS WHEN I PURCHASE NEW TIRES IN THE EVENT THERE IS A RECALL. I REPLACED THE TIRES AND SAVED THE RECEPT. I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FROM FORD LATER IN THE YEAR. WHEN I CALLED THEM THEY SAID TO BRING THE VEHICLE IN. I EXPLAINED THAT I HAD REPLACED THE TIRES. I WAS TOLD MY CLAIM WAS WITH CONTINENTAL TIRE, NOT FORD, AND THAT CONTINENTAL WOULD BE CONTACTING ME. THEY NEVER DID CONTACT ME AND I FINALLY HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO CALL CONTINENTAL TIRE WITH A PHONE NO. GIVEN TO ME BY FORD. CONTINENTAL TIRE NOW SAYS THAT THE RECALL IS OVER AND THERE IS NO WAY TO RECOUP MY EXPENSES. I NEED YOUR HELP. IN MY CASE NO ONE WAS INJURED BECAUSE I MADE A VEHICLE INSPECTION AND HAD THE TIRES REPLACED (BEFORE THE RECALL WAS MADE). IF THERE HAD BEEN A DEATH, WE'D BE IN COURT RIGHT NOW, BUT BECAUSE THERE WASN'T I'M BEING PENALIZED FOR THE COST OF THE TIRES AND BEING VIGILANT. *JB

I HAVE FILED A PAPER REPORT ON TWO OF THE ORIGINAL SET TIRES THAT FAILED. I WENT TO A TIRE SHOP AND THEY SET A 3RD OF THE SET WAS BAD SO I REPLACED IT. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DEAL WITH GENERAL, FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND THE DEALERSHIP BUT THERE PROCEDURE TO GET SOMETHING DONE HAS BEEN AN ORDEAL THAT I AM STILL WORKING ON FROM THE ORIGINAL BLOW OUT. I HAD MY 2 BAD TIRES REPLACED AT AT TIRE SHOP BECAUSE THEY SEPARATED,ONE ACTUALLY BLEWOUT AND CAUSED DAMAGED TO THE VEHICLE. THE 2ND WAS ABOUT TO BLOW OUT BECASE IT DEVELOPED A KNOT AND WAS BUMPING AS I WENT DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN I WAS HAVING THESE TWO REAPLACED CONCERN FOR OUR SAFETY,THE TIRE SHOP SAID THE 3RD TIRE WAS SEPERATING. I HAD IT REAPLACED. THIS PASS SATURSDAY WHILE IN ROUT TO A WEDDING THE 4TH REMAINING TIRE OF THE ORIGINAL SET STARTED PEELING OFF AND STARTED BUMPING. I STOPPED AND CHANGED IT WITH THE 5TH TIRE OF THE ORIGINAL SET. THIS IS THE SPARE. I ALSO FOUND THE BRAKE LINE HAD BEEN DAMAGED FROM THE ORIGINAL BLOW OUT OF THE FIRST TIRE WHEN MY WIFE CAME HOME TODAY AND TOLD ME THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN TO THE FLOOR. I HAVE ALL OF THESE BAD TIRES IN MY POSSESSION AND I AM SURE YOU WOULD WANT TO EXAMINE THEM BEFORE I GIVE THEM TO GENERAL. THEY SAY THEY MUST HAVE THEM BEFORE THEY WILL CONSIDER A CLAIM FROM ME FOR THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE OR ANY OF ALL OF THE EXPENSES I HAVE INCURRED FROM THE FAILURE OF THEIR SET OF TIRES. I THINK THESE TIRES ARE DEFECTIVE. THEY COULD HAVE EASILY CAUSED ME AND MY FAMILY OUR LIVES. I KNOW THIS REPORT DOES NOT COVER ALL OF THE DETAILS. I CAN GIVE ALL OF THE DETAILS DRING WHATEVER INVESTIGATION THAT FOLLOWS. I WOULD APPRECIATE YOU HELP ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. AUTO LOAD LEVELING SUSPENSION FAILED JUNE 2002. DEALER FOUND WIRING PROBLEM THAT CAUSED SHORT AND CAUSED SENSOR TO FAIL. WHEN SYSTEM FAILS, SYSTEM DROPS REAR OF CAR DOWN ON AXLE WITH NO SUSPENSION. VEHICLE IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE ESPECIALLY OVER ROUGH ROAD AND WHEN CORNERING. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER AND FORD THAT THIS WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM AND WOULD BE ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS IF TOWING A TRAILER WHEN THIS HAPPENED. IN MAY OF 2003 SYSTEM FAILED WHILE TOWING A FAIRLY HEAVY TRAILER. TRAILER TONGUE HIT THE PAVEMENT. VEHICLE WAS VERY UNSTABLE TO DRIVE AND GET SAFELY OFF THE ROAD. THIS TIME THE PROBLEM WAS A RELAY THAT FAILED. VEHICLES WITH THIS LOAD LEVELING SYSTEM NEED TO BE RECALLED AND MODIFIED TO FREEZE THE SYSTEM IN IT'S CURRENT STATE WHEN A FAILURE IS DETECTED AND NOT TO LET OUT ALL OF THE AIR IN THE SUSPENSION. THERE NEEDS TO BE A WAY TO DISABLE THE SYSTEM AND MANUALLY ADD OR REMOVE AIR FROM THE AIR SHOCKS IN THIS SITUATION. I PREFER TO REMOVE THE "AUTOMATIC" CONTROL FROM THIS SYSTEM AND CONTROL IT MANUALLY. *JB
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2000 EXPEDITION ON THE FREEWAY AT 60MPH WHEN THE TREAD SEPARATED ON THE RIGHT REAR TIRE, CAUSING A BLOW OUT AND AN ACCIDENT, ALMOST CAUSING A CATASTROPHIC ROLLOVER. I AM FORTUNATE SHE WAS NOT KILLED. WHAT IRRITATES ME THE MOST IS GENERAL TIRE HAS A REPUTATION FOR THIS PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY HERE IN ARIZONA, AND THE CONSUMER HAS NO IDEA. THESE TIRES WERE NOT WORN AND WERE PROPERLY INFLATED, AND THE ONLY LEGAL RECOURSE I WOULD HAVE AGAINST GENERAL TIRE WOULD HAVE BEEN IF MY WIFE AND INFANT CHILD HAD BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED. I AM INCENSED ABOUT THIS AS THE ONLY REASON GENERAL WILL GET AWAY WITH THIS IS DUE TO THE FACT MY WIFE'S DRIVING SKILLS SAVED HER LIFE. MY OPINION IS GENERAL AND FORD CONTINUE TO DECEIVE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE PRODUCT THEY ARE PUTTING ON THE ROAD, AND THERE IS NO REPERCUSSION FOR THEIR NEGLIGENCE.*AK
2000 FORD EXPEDITION V8 4.6L XLT STALLS WHEN GAS IS AT 1/4 TANK AND AT A FORWARD ANGLE (DOWNHILL). THIS HAPPENS WHEN GOING 55 ON THE FREEWAY, COME TO A SLIGHT DECLINE AND VEHICLE STALLS AND DIES. COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I CAN NOT SELL THIS CAR AND GET A NEW FORD, KNOWING SOME COULD GET HURT. WE DON'T LET OUR KIDS DRIVE IT. *TR
I PURCHASED MY NEW EXPEDITION IN OCTOBER OF 2000. ON 5/16/02 I TOOK IT IN FOR MY SECOND ANNUAL INSPECTION (44,000 MILES). I HAD ALSO ASKED THEM TO LOOK INTO A SMALL OIL LEAK ON MY VEHICLE. I THOUGHT THAT PERHAPS THE PLUG WASNT FULLY TIGHTENED AT MY LAST OIL CHANGE. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS SHOCKED WHEN I WAS INFORMED THAT I HAVE A DEFECTIVE HEAD GASKET. I WAS EVEN MORE SHOCKED WHEN I WAS INFORMED THAT THE REPAIR ESTIMATE FOR THE HEAD GASKET WAS $2100! I WAS INFORMED THAT BECAUSE MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I ASKED THEM TO HOLD OFF ON THAT REPAIR UNTIL I COULD DO SOME RESEARCH REGARDING THIS ISSUE. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE HAVE BEEN 3 SERVICE BULLETINS ISSUED FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM. NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ISSUE HAVE ALSO BEEN LOGGED ON THE INTERNET.*AK

THERE IS A 2ND TIRE LOCATED IN THE REAR WHICH DEVELOPED A KNOT. TIRE MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT A THIRD TIRE WAS SEPERATING. ALTHOUGH THE TREAD ON THE TIRES WERE GOOD THEY WERE ALL FAULTY. *JG

I HAD TO REPLACE THE GENERAL GRABBER TIRES ON MY FORD EXPEDITION TODAY BECAUSE THEY WERE UNSAFE, ACCORDING TO NYB WHERE I PURCHASED NEW TIRES. THE TIRES HAD ONLY 23,500 MILES ON THEM BUT I WAS SHOWN HOW THREE OF THE FOUR DID NOT "TRACK" I.E. THEY SERIOUSLY WOBBLED ON THE BALANCE MACHINE. I WAS TOLD THEY WERE A POTENTIAL DRIVING HAZARD AS THEY COULD BLOWOUT OR SUFFER TREAD SEPARATION. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS OF GENERAL GRABBER TIRES ARE REPLACING THEM FOR THE SAME REASON. IF SO THEN MAYBE THIS SHOULD BE RECALL BY FORD AND GENERAL TIRE. INCIDENTALLY, I COMPLAINED TO FORD WHICH REFERRED ME TO GENERAL TIRE BUT WHEN I THEN COMPLAINED TO GENERAL TIRE, THEY REFERRED ME BACK TO FORD.
