Electronic throttle body will go into a limp mode and has no power to accelerate. This happens while driving down the street or highway and you might have enough power to pull to side of the road or street and not get run over. I have seen other reports of this and Ford extended their warranty on some vehicles to 10 years or 150,000 miles. These are mainly the eco boost motors. My vehicle has 88,000 miles and is regularly serviced. One occurrence was on a road under construction with no place to pull over quickly when this happened.
Was traveling 75 mph on a busy highway and lost power, the message center lit up yellow with a wrench in the middle, vehicle went to idle/coast, had no power to move thru lanes as cars were buzzing by me. very scary somehow got to the side of road safely but close calls many times. had it taken to Ford dealer - pulled the code P2112 THROTTLE CONTROL SYSTEM STUCK CLOSED/THROTTLE ACTUATOR CONTROL SYSTEM CLOSED. I would like to join class action lawsuit that is open for this problem since Ford will not stand behind this issue. i spent $600 to replace the defective THROTTLE BODY component with a new one. But the reality is that this put myself and others in grave danger because the total loss of power. Brake Master Cylinder is LEAKING out the back of master cylinder and into brake booster, lost almost ALL of the brake fluid in short trip as soon as it started.. Its an Identical issue to current Recall 22S11 or 22S14 on many if not all 2016 2017 Expeditions. My truck was built at the same Kentucky plant that produced the trucks with this exact issue, build date [XXX] built in the same time frame the trucks have the issue . But Ford reports it as Not a recall.. Its Doing the EXACT SAME issue that is part of recall 22S14 and 22S11.. and is an incredible huge Safety Risk causing potential death to the driver or other motorist if the truck runs out of brake fluid .. Driving at highway speed, vehicle gauges drops to zero and transmission stays at 3rd gear. Unable to know what travel speed is while trying to exit safety off highway. Have to turn off engine to reset issue, but no way to figure out what happened.
Tailgate opens and closes at random times while stationary or in motion. When the tailgate opens and closes, anything behind the back seat could fall out onto any vehicle. Has been reported to the dealer and repaired but has relapsed to previous condition. Serra Hyundai Birmingham, Alabama has been aware of this condition as recent as May 10, 2024. Problem surfaced mid September, 2023.
Vehicle sudden power loss. No fuel getting to engine vehicle must be stopped it is in limp mode. Turned off and restarted and vehicle runs. Happened 15 different times. Still ongoing possi le contaminated throttle body?
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while reversing at an undisclosed speed, the rear-view camera displayed a distorted image. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 62,443.
While driving my children, my 2017 Ford Expedition lost power and went into 'limp' mode (wrench appears on the dash) along with an incredibly rough idle. This is at least the 3rd time that this has happened (twice before replacing the current throttle bottle) and now. This is incredibly dangerous as the vehicle loses power and leaves my family and I at the mercy of other drivers around us. It has happened on a 6 lane freeway, a 2 lane highway, and, most recently, on a city street. After a very quick search of the internet, it is no secret that there are throttle body problems with 2017 Ford Expeditions. Ford is responsible for manufacturing a vehicle that is safe and free of mechanical defects. While some problems do arise unexpectedly, it is ignorant of Ford to continue to put passengers in harms way until an injury or death happens when there is a known issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the recall repair was completed. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle and turning the fan on high speed, the entire vehicle vibrated, including the steering wheel and the floorboard. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they would fix the issue; however, the following day, the dealer informed the contact that additional repairs were not needed because the vehicle was operating as designed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and contacted the dealer; however, the dealer informed the manufacturer that the vehicle was operating as designed. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 57,120.
something burning in truck and then the front blower ceased working. Now I know why - many owners reporting same things and this repair should be covered, or recall expanded to include these additional repairs if needed due to the excessive heat from the blower motor. This could have very easily caused a vehicle fire while I was driving, and we could have been seriously injured. 2) rear back up camera failure due to poor seal around camera and lack of waterproofing of camera electronics causing corrosion and failure. Problem clearly seen in attached video ( not my car but same exact issue) Again, many other owners experiencing same issue. This is a safety hazard as camera suddenly failed while I was reversing and caused a near miss of a pedestrian. Camera components need to be waterproofed and sealed better - there is clearly water leaking into the rear door panel causing corrosion as indicated by dealer. The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed with the brake pedal depressed all the way to the floorboard, the vehicle failed to stop. The contact was able to stop the vehicle by engaging the parking brake. After a visual inspection of the engine compartment, the contact observed that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. After refilling the brake fluid reservoir, the vehicle seemed to return to normal functionality, but the failure recurred the same day. The low brake fluid warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the brake master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 89,000.
We were on vacation and on our way back to the hotel from hiking on our last night in North Carolina. The check engine light came on and the car started sputtering and the accelerator would not work. We were slowing down and the car just would not go. We put it in park and turned the car off and sat there for 10 minutes. We turned the car back on and and then the wrench light came on. We had to keep turning the car on and off for the last 5 miles of the drive home which took us over an hour with letting the car cool off and turning it back on. When we did manage to go, we could only drive 25 mph. This was on a holiday weekend. We had to pay another $150 to stay where we were to get the car towed to the dealership. We then had to wait for the dealership to open to take the car and fix the problem which then cost me $800. Now prior to even going on vacation, I had the car completely checked over and service done. Nevermind, that the warranty had just expired on it. But who thought that with actually taking care of your car, it would break down and as soon as weeks after the warranty is up. I looked online and saw that this issue has been an ongoing issue for thousands of other Ford Expeditions. I would like my money back and this to be recalled. I've attached all the paperwork. It is due to an inoperable throttle sensor where the throttle then fails to work. Please recall this issue and have them return my money.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the blower motor had failed. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System). The contact drove the vehicle to a dealer and the blower motor was replaced; however, the blower motor failed several days after the repair. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the failure as a frayed connector or pigtail that was the original connector to the blower motor that had been replaced by the dealer during the recall repair. The contact called the dealer and was informed that the manufacturer had a specific note in the recall information that only the blower motor was to be replaced and that the pig tail connector would not be covered under the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 126,986.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact had NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System) for the bower motor repaired. The contact stated that she returned the vehicle to the dealer who performed the remedy and was advised by the dealer that the original "pigtail" connection and resistor should have been replaced when the blower was replaced. The contact was shown how to tap the connector wires which were hanging under the dashboard on the passenger side to start the blower functioning. The contact stated that she would have to perform the action anytime the A/C or the heater needed to be activated. The vehicle had been inadequately repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.
Near total loss of brakes. Pulled in to a parking spot and brakes very squishy, upon returning brake light was on. No indication of brake fluid on ground. Added approximately 25oz of fluid topping off reservoir, upon returning home (1.5mi) the pedal travel was much longer than normal, and no fluid remaining in reservoir again. Replaced master cylinder and power booster. Upon removing the power booster was full of oil.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 45 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and decelerated before the vehicle stalled. During the failure the message "Check Owner’s Manual" was displayed. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the VIN was not included in the Manufacturer’s Extended Coverage for the throttle body failure. The failure mileage was 64,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System), and the repair was completed. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the blower located behind the glove box functioned intermittently, and the contact smelled a melted plastic odor. After a visual inspection, the contact stated that the wiring and components were hot to the touch. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who determined that the wiring pigtail connector needed to be replaced and that the vehicle was low on coolant. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 120,000.
I took my vehicle in on August 15 or so. The dealer, Sames Ford Bastrop, had it for 1 month and returned it to me as repaired. According to the nhtsa database, the repair has not been performed.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while reversing out of a parking space, the air conditioning suddenly failed. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the blower motor had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System) however, the replacement part failed. The vehicle was returned to the dealer who confirmed the repair could not be performed a second time under the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and file a case for the failure. The manufacturer confirmed that the VIN was no longer under recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while operating the vehicle, the message low brake fluid was displayed. Upon inspection, it was discovered that no brake fluid was present inside the brake fluid reservoir. The contact was informed that the brake master cylinder and brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact was informed that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 117,000.
Backup camera picture frequently shows up scrambled on the screen. Sometimes the picture is fine; often it is impossible to see anything but streaks. It happens all the time. This camera seems to work better when I am on a trip. Possibly related to battery charge, but my battery is only a year old, and the issue has been occurring for a few years. I just saw your website while looking at cars, so I decided to report it.
Burnt wires from front air blower that are not being honored from the current air blower recall resulting in $1k bill
July 30, 2023, I was in car wreck with my Ford Expedition, 2017. The other car ran red light and hit my Ford in left front ahead of front wheel. Other car traveling approx 35 mph, by police report. Side airbag fizzled with smoke an did not deploy. Neither front airbag deployed. No airbags deployed. Ford was considered a total loss by both insurance companies involved. This vehicle has 5 star safety rating and that was considered in my purchase. I purchased Ford in Oct 2016, new. It was always serviced by Ford dealer here. This vehicle does not deserve 5 star rating.
This incident happened on July 20, 2023. I was driving to my house when I notice that there was smoke coming out of the glove compartment of my 2017 Expedition EL. I immediately stopped at the median and opened the hood to make sure there was no fire. After that, I walked to the passenger door and when I open the door I noticed a lot more smoke coming from under the glove compartment. I open the glove compartment and notice that there was fire coming from the blower motor and on the wires around it. At this very moment, I find this issue a friend of mine happened to drive by and stopped to ask me if I needed help. He saw what was happening and provided me with 2 bottles of water. We removed the glove compartment and try to put some water toward the fire but it was too late. The fire had spread throughout the dash and subsequently, the entire vehicle was lost. I didn't have time to remove any personal items from the vehicle since the fire spread really fast and also was making a wising sound, believe to be the airbags when they deployed. Even though we have insurance I don't think it is fair for the manufacturer to clean their hand on issues like this, we lost a vehicle and they should find a way to replace it.
I have attempted to have the existing recall fixed for approx 9 months. I'm told the parts are not available.
Pulled into a parking spot and put the car in park. The vehicle started to roll backwards while in park. Had to hit the brakes to stop the car. I checked and the car was securely in park. Had to put the car back in drive and pull forward to pull back fully into the parking spot and apply the emergency brake.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the USB, the GPS System had started to malfunction. The dealer was notified of the failure however, the contact was informed that the parts to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact then stated that the air condition system failed to operate. No warning light was illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the parts to do the recall repair was not available; however, the dealer offered a temporary repair for a fee. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
Driving through a mile-long tunnel on an interstate highway (speed limit 55 mph), the vehicle ceased to respond to the gas pedal and would not accelerate or maintain speed. Attempted to shift gears but that produced no change - it was as if the transmission was stuck in neutral, but pushing the gas pedal did not increase the rpm. As we exited the tunnel at approximately 30 mph, the driver attempted to pull over and stop the vehicle, and found that the power assist for the brakes was not working, making stopping difficult - the driver had to push the brakes very hard, multiple times, to stop the car. We did contact 911 dispatch when we thought we were going to likely impede traffic, as the tunnel only had two lanes traveling the same direction. However, no intervention was required as we reached the end of the tunnel and were able to pull over before the call was completed. The vehicle was towed to a dealership and they diagnosed a fuel pump and/or fuel pump module problem, but have ceased to respond to our calls for the past 48 hours, so we have no further information. The check engine light turned on when the car was restarted, but then later turned off, without any repair work having been completed.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the brake light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over to check the brake fluid and discovered that the brake fluid reservoir was empty. After adding brake fluid, the brake fluid warning light re-appeared with the brake pedal being depressed to the floorboard. Despite the failure, the contact was able to drive to the residence using the parking brake. The following day, the contact inspected the vehicle and discovered that the brake master cylinder had allowed brake fluid to leak into the brake booster. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 104,290.
We have left four messages with Covert Ford in Austin to get an appointment for the Air Conditioning safety recall and they will not return our calls.
I have been having an issue with an intermittent blower motor not working, it was replaced by ford in November 2022 and as of July 2023 it is needing to be replaced again as I have no a/c or front blower motor again. I have attempted to have this recall fixed and ford still does not have the new part so this will not continue to happen. I currently live in Florida and have 2 small kids with no a/c in our vehicle, the current dealer that I am working with stated I can get a rental car and pay for it out of my own pocket until ford can finally get a new part that will work and hope I will be refunded. They are attempting to order the temporary part again and replace the blower motor for a 2nd time but have advised me they don’t know how long it will take to get the part and when they do get the part they will need my car for 4-5 days with no option of a rental on their dime. I have been dealing with intermittent blower motor issues for almost a year now and ford has not been able to remedy this recall. I feel I am being bounced around and ford is not taking ownership of getting the new fix since 8/26/2022.
Wheels: tires were unidernflated to 25 and no dash warning received. Tires inflated to 32. Within a month severe tire bulge appeared no dash warning. Tires now replaced. Power train: yellow wrench on dash, suv went limp after acceleration, suv had limited forward power to pull over to side of road. Shut engine off, restarted, no yellow wrench, no problem for approximately 20 miles. Identical problem occurred 2 more times about 20 miles after the preceding incident. From Ford forums it appears there is an issue with the throttle body, but when taken to Ford for OBD scan no error was found. This 2017 Ford only has been garage kept, gently driven about 34,000 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed, but went down to the floorboard, and the vehicle hesitated to respond. The message "Low Brake Fluid" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to a Chevrolet dealer, where it was diagnosed that the brake master cylinder was leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. The dealer diagnosed that the brake master cylinder and the brake booster needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The local Ford dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.
While driving down the highway, the low brake fluid light sounded and the brake light came on . we slowly loss brakes while driving down the HWy. We added brake fluid, which there was no brake fluid in there at all .When we added the fluid, we pump the brakes and they tighten . Shortly after adding more fluid , the fluid and brakes were gone and white smoke came out of the tail pipe. We never could see exactly where it was leaking at. We added about a quart and a half of fluid . After adding the more fluid, we managed to get it up to the dealership where it was purchased . We explain to what was going on and he knew of the situation because he said it was a recall last year on the master cylinder if I’m saying it, right. I told him that we never received a recall letter but we left the vehicle and he did research by our Vin number, and said we were not part of the recall, but I read a recall number 22S14 about the break failure in expeditions. We called the local number attached to the recall and they once again told us that our vehicle was not part of the recall because I guess it was not out of the Kentucky plant . We are having the same issue with our brakes, but it’s not covered in the current recall. My vehicle is currently in the shop and waiting to be repaired. Can someone research and see if our vehicle can be part of the recall now and be repaired under the/a recall. thank you.
Ford Expedition suddenly lost acceleration while driving. This results in the accelerator producing no power, essentially placing the vehicle into neutral. After turning vehicle on & off, it worked properly. Took it into auto repair place & was told this is a common problem and the THROTTLE MOTOR had to be replaced. After replacement, vehicle was towing a boat and the same thing happened and the check engine light came on. However, this time, after about 20 seconds, the vehicle shifted back into gear, the engine light turned off, and vehicle operated properly for the rest of the drive.
Few times engine goes on idle and wrench light comes on, manage to move to shoulder and turn engine off and back on and like nothing happened, but is doing the same more often, very dangerous in highways all of sudden power in engine is gone, should get recall to make sure fuel systems or engine is ok
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that when he attempted to use the blower to cool the vehicle interior, the blower stopped operating as needed. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed and determined that the wiring harness needed to be replaced on the blower motor. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The HVAC blower motor connector for the Ford has completely burned out. When in use, it is hot to the touch (too hot too touch sometimes) and emits an electrical burning smell. The HVAC unit now only works on high and if the unit is connected in a certain angle. I took the vehicle into FORD in Kirksville,MO and their technician told me it wasn't covered under the blower motor recall and it was going to cost $600+ to repair. When I asked the technician that upon replacing the part, what would keep it from happening again I was told FORD realized the grounding wire in the connector wasn't strong enough to hold the charge, and they have sense come out with a part where the grounding wire is "heavy duty". When I contacted FORD about the issue they informed me that it was not covered under the blower motor recall and there were currently no programs to cover the repair.
While travelling on highway uphill around 60 mph in heavy traffic, vehicle lost all power and went to idle. I had to maneuver 3 lanes to reach shoulder. Wrench icon showed on dash. Restarted engine and code cleared and had power again. It happened 4 more times over next 2 months then gave P2112 code. Research showed to replace throttle body which I did. Now doing some watchful waiting to see if it reoccurs. I believe this is a safety gap that requires a recall and a redesign of the logic to prevent the disabling the power train all the way back to idle.
On May 15, 2023, our 2017 Ford Expedition rolled while in Park and unattended. It had been parked for approx. 2-1/2 hours before rolling down our inclined driveway. It collided with our granite mailbox post, snapping it off. Thankfully, no one was hurt, however, the vehicle suffered significant damage.
THE REAR BACK-UP CAMERA DOES WORK AND FLASHES RAINBOW COLORS.
Blower resistor and pigtail are burning.

Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics) which he linked to the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.
The factory Ford lug nuts have "swollen" so that the 2 piece "cap" has detached from the actual nut preventing me from removal or properly tightening the lug nut to the wheel. In the even of a flat tire, this would be impossible to change along the highway.
The faulty blow motor is has caused the pigtail and resistor wires to melt and the dealership wants to charge for repairing that even though they have melted due to the faulty blower motor .
