Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact upon restarting the vehicle, the warning message 'Brake Fluid Low" was displayed. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the brake pedal was depressed however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact depressed the brake pedal all the way to the floorboard and the vehicle responded. The contact drove to her residence. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Services Brakes, Hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 53,871.
While driving with two of our younger children, our 18 year old daughter noticed the brake warning light came on and the brakes failed to the point that the pedal had to be depressed completely to the floor to get any braking power, which was considerably diminished. After taking the car in to the mechanic, we learned we needed a new master cylinder and brake booster because the original set was defective. We also then learned of the current related recall for 2016-2017 Ford Expeditions (NHTSA Recall No. 22V-150) yet our VIN is somehow inexplicably excluded. We had the repair done (see attached invoice) as otherwise the vehicle was unsafe for driving. We are just grateful that no one was hurt as it was a terrifying experience. The recall needs to be expanded immediately before someone is seriously injured, or worse.
BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER LEAK FLUID INTO BOOSTER THERE IS A CAMPAIGN NUMBER, 22V150000 AND THE RECALL NUMBER IS 22S11
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 30-35 MPH, the brake warning light illuminated. The contact continued driving. Left home for work and low brake fluid light came on. Went to nearby part store purchased brake fluid. Filled reservoir. Drove about 2 miles light came back on. Pulled over to check and reservoir was completely empty. No visible sign of leak. Had to coast to a slow roll and pull emergency brake to stop.
exactly as specified in the recall. I first heard a tone, followed by brake failure warning light, then another brake failure light. Luckily I was parking almost immediately and braking was spongy. After turning off the vehicle and trying to restart, upon pressing the brake petal it went completely to the floor rendering me completely stranded. Vehicle did start. Wrecker was called. There was no visible brake fluid leakage on the car or the pavement.
At roughly 95,000 miles the bearings in the rear differential went bad on our Expedition EL. We drove it this way for a few months until we could get it properly diagnosed and repaired. It was repaired by Stearns Ford under our extended warranty (aftermarket) several weeks ago, and has been fine since the rebuild.
RECENTLY MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR GRANDCHILDREN TO SCHOOL. SHE PUT HERE FOOT ON THE BRAKE PETAL AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. SHE GOT AN ALARM ON HER DASH ABOUT LOW BRAKE FLUID AND LOSS OF BRAKES. SHE WAS ABLE TO GET HE CAR STOPPED. WE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO OUR FORD DEALER. THEY REPLACED THE MASTER BRAKE CYLINDER AND THE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. WE NOW SEE THAT THERE IS A RECALL FOR 2017 FORD EXPEDITION FOR EXACTLY THIS PROBLEM. The recall is NHTSA recall number 20V-332. THE FORD DEALER IS TELLING US THIS RECALL IS NOT FOR OUR CAR WHEN WE EXPERIENCED THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM AS OUTLINED IN THIS RECALL.
Throttle body and motor assembly failed at only 33,000 miles. Vehicle suddenly lost power and wrench light immediately illuminated on the dash. Vehicle had to be towed to local Ford dealership for repair. This created a very dangerous situation as the vehicle was currently being operated on a congested interstate on-ramp entering the highway with a very narrow shoulder / emergency lane. A vehicle accident & fatality could have easily occurred given this dangerous situation. Unfortunately this throttle body mechanical failure is a very common issue across many Ford vehicle platforms and the NHTSA has done the American consumer a disservice by allowing Ford to continue repairing these vehicles only when the throttle body unit fails. Instead the NHSTA should be forcing Ford to pre-emptively recall these vehicles and replace the faulty throttle bodies before more unnecessary fatalities occur.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to stop the vehicle, the pedal extended to the floor causing the stopping distance to be extended. The brake fluid warning light was illuminated. After adding brake fluid to the vehicle, moments later the warning light illuminated again. The contact stated there was no evidence of a brake fluid leak. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not yet contacted. After performing a VIN search, the contact became aware that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic). The contact indicated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The approximate failure mileage was 111,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulics) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the air conditioning and heating systems of the vehicle was not operable. The contact stated that she received recall notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System) on September 2022. However, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer and a second dealer, Fallon Ford-Toyota ( 1351 W Williams Ave, Fallon, NV 89406) were contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Tack welds on vehicle roof rusted out along passenger side, causing water and other structural damage to electrical components, vehicle body, and other vehicles components. Water leak caused mold and mildew damage to headliner, carpet, etc. Air quality in vehicle diminished for passengers, variety of children age ranges.
I've received several letters about Motor Vehicle safety since last year. I contacted the Ford dealership last year for it, and instead of fixing my car, they hit it while waiting in the dealer, so they focus more on fixing the hood that was damage and body of the car, and pressured me to sign a document to agree to fix it, while I had my husband at the hospital in ICU. But, the recall problem was never fixed, they said because they didn't have the part. Something in the engine was damage, so i had to take the car almost every month to try to fix it. I kept getting letters about the recall, and they kept saying that the part was ordered and they were going to call me when ready. Never did. Last week around August 25 i received another recall letter. I added in my to DOs to call, as a single mom now, its a little difficult, so i could not call during the week, and Sunday 8/26 while I was driving my car with my children, we could hear a weird noise, then smell of smoke, and some smoke coming from the front AC blower, then the AC stopped working. I contacted the dealership this morning, and I was asked to bring the car, that they have the part ready (Which i never was notified before), so I dropped my kids in school and took the car to the dealership, after waiting for more than 2hrs, they said they part wasn't good, and they couldn't get it fixed. I need help to get this fixed, and to have a warranty that this is safe and will work.
While attempting to accelerate, was not able to. Vehicle lost all power. Had to pull over and turn vehicle off and then back on. Happened twice in about 15 minutes. This is the 3rd time in 2 years this has occurred. Brought into repair facility and the issue is the throttle body.
Vehicle will lose all power and acceleration. Must pull the vehicle over to the side of the road. Turn vehicle back on and it works fine. This happens intermittently but consistently keeps happening. Code from vehicle states Electronic Throttle Body Issue
Our car experienced a failed Throttle Body Assembly. While driving our car, the engine would lose power, and the car would start to violently shake. The wrench light would come on the dash. We would have to pull over whether we were on the highway or a city street. Once we turned the car off and back on the wrench light would disappear. We took the car to our mechanic who could not figure out the issue due to no codes. The Ford dealership told us the same thing as our mechanic - without a code(s) it would take a lot of time and money to figure out the problem. Finally after several (at least 5 time) scary occurrences of this issue, the engine light came on and gave a code. We fixed the issue on June 23, 2022.
The APIM stopped working as in all ford models with ford sync do. It is a safety hazard do to the driver not being able use the blue tooth sync for the phone, with out it working the driver has to use hands on the phone, creating a safety hazard and breaking a driving law.
Vehicle was jerking and a wrench illuminated on panel. Was able to get out of traffic to side of road but very dangerous as we had to just coast to safety. Took vehicle to dealership...code threw for throttle active stuck. This happened on March 23, 2022. Than again on July 23, 2022, was on interstate and wrench illuminated and again stalled. 75 Mph traffic and thank goodness we was able to clear traffic to side of road. Limped home. 1st incident mileage was 118395. And second incident 128024.3
Recall on 2017 Ford Expedition - Brake master cylinder. I have had 2 appointments canceled by Ford because they do not have the part in. Am I supposed to wait untill I have an accident because all the brake fluid leaked out. The PIN number on my driver's side door is not working. The driver's door opens after touching one number.
Winner Ford still doesn't have the part to fix my March 2022 recall of Brake Master cylinder.
Recall # 22V150 for Brake Master Cylinder may leak fluid into Booster. Also Ford's 2 part lug nuts Warp and there should be a recall I already have 2 lugnuts in my back rare passenger tire.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V150000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
Loss of power, no throttle response while driving. Happens when the throttle is advanced at a faster pace like taking off from a traffic light. I get the "See Manual" message and the wrench symbol. Turning off and then turning back on the vehicle clears the fault. Known problem with the Throttle body.....Can you say Recall?
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the A/C turned off independently. The A/C failed to turn on until the contact inadvertently touched a wire underneath the dashboard. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the blower motor resistor was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the A/C was stuck on high and would not turn off or turn down. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (Visibility, Electrical System) and associated the recall with the failure; however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was not contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for an exhaust manifold leak, the mechanic informed her that the brake master cylinder was also leaking fluid. The independent mechanic replaced the brake master cylinder and brake booster. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that there was no recall associated with the VIN. The failure mileage was 91,818.
Backup camera loses connection, does not show image, or is grossly distorted, flashes on screen. Cannot safely use backup camera when backing up. Problem Looks identical to the picture below which is from a recalled mustang.
September 2021 vehicle back up camera not functioning properly and loud knocking noise coming from rear interior. Video display is cloudy and not Capturing rear outside picture at all
Getting tires change and lug nuts are swollen. I heard this is a very common problem and now needs to be replaced.
I was driving the vehicle and it suddenly lost all engine power. The car was still on and running but slowed down to idle speed and was almost rear ended. I was barely able to get it over to the side street where I turned it off and then back on. And it ran like usual and I drove it back home, I was only a mile away. After further research it seems this is a known issue with the throttle body on these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at slow speeds during the snow, the vehicle slid on the icy road. The brake pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to respond. Due to the failure, the vehicle crashed into the guardrail and came to a stop. The contact stated that the air bags did not deploy. The contact was unsure if there was a warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact suffered injuries to her back and neck. However, medical attention was not received. A Police report was not filed. The contact also stated that the failure had occurred three years ago. The contact then received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V236000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC) in 2025. The contact stated that on another occasion, the climate control front blower failed to function as intended. The contact stated the A/C was inoperable. The dealer picked up the vehicle, and the repairs were pending. The contact stated that recently, water had leaked into the front cabin of the vehicle from an unknown location and damaged the wires for the blower. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V648000 (VISIBILITY, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact safely pulled over to the side of the roadway and there was a knocking sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The local dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA for assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.
Loss of power brake assist. Warnings appear peddle get hard still have braking. Can leave car sit not running or still be driving and system resets self. Still have fluid in master cylinder. This has happened twice.
Phone and Bluetooth are inoperable, as well as usb and auxiliary are inoperable. This presents a danger as the APIM controls a number of functions on the vehicle that could also become safety threat such as relying on the back up camera which has also presented intermittent issues.
Ford makes A 2 part faulty lugnuts which warps and can cause separation and consequently an accident! I was told at my last oil change January 2022 that I'd need to pay to have the lug nuts changed but they'd put the same. Or I can buy after Market lug nuts which is 1 whole part and pay to replace all of them.
I was in an accident where i rear ended the vehicle in front of me and sustained a lot of damage. My my airbag light came on but the airbags failed to deploy. The seatbelt tightened upon first impact and then as i was thrown foward it released and threw me into my steering wheel and did not tighten again
Unable to change tire because of swollen lug nuts: the nominal size socket is too small and the next size up is too large. Had to have vehicle towed to a shop to get the lug nuts removed.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Expedition. The contact stated after the vehicle had been repaired under an unidentified recall, the instrument panel and central electrical console were flickering. The contact stated that the headlights were also flickering. In addition, there was an abnormal burning odor coming through the air vents. The battery was replaced and drained prematurely. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed that the blower motor assembly had failed. The contact stated that the vehicle had been diagnosed by several local dealers, but no repairs had been performed due to parts not being available. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
BACK UP CAMERA UNIT WORKS PART TIME CHECKED RECALL OUR VIN NEVER ON RECALL. CALLED FORD DEALERSHIP DON SANDERSON REGULARY TO CHECK SAME ANSWER NOT ON RECALL.PROBLEM SINCE 2021 THANKS
My Expedition was set to 45 mph via cruise control in a work zone, at night, on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel. While in the first tunnel in the northbound lane with 2 way traffic, I heard a slight pop, then rough running feeling and completely lost acceleration. The power train wrench warning light came on. Since I was on an incline in the tunnel with no way to pull over and the vehicle was going forward at a snail's pace, I decided to continue as far as I could since it was the safest thing to do for all drivers in the tunnel. The Expedition finally crept out of the tunnel and I was able to pull off to the side to let traffic pass. As soon as we had cell phone service, I had my daughter call the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel to let them know that we were disabled and in need of assistance. I decided to see what would happen if I turned the vehicle off and restarted. Everything reset and I had power, but for how long? The CBBT police agreed that the safest course of action for all vehicles on the road was to tow my vehicle to the other side as it is dangerous to breakdown on the CBBT, especially in one of the tunnels. I was able to drive home after the tow. However, the following day, I tried to drive it again and it did the same: ran rough, wrench sign, no pop that time, total loss of acceleration. Restarted and made it back home. My husband tested it a few days later after re-cleaning battery cable terminals that had been corroded before we replaced the factory battery, and it did the same thing with him on the highway! If we had been trying to get into traffic, turn where we had to cross traffic or any number of other situations and the Expedition lost power like that, the outcome could be deadly. The CBBT would have records since they towed me and wrote the VIN down.
Vehicle has 124,058 miles. On this date - Oct 14, 2021, brake pedal got soft, audio and visual warning saying low brake fluid level. Luckily was just slowly pulling into driveway after driving at 55-60 on US 341. Checked brake fluid level. It was indeed very low. Added DOT4 fluid. Drove vehicle slowly in back area and depressed brake pedal several times. Pedal still not quite right. Thought maybe had air in lines. But soon audio/visual warning came on. Checked brake fluid level. Low again. Looked underneath for any obvious leaks - none. Check fire wall - nothing. So assumed fluid was going in to booster. Looked on internet and found other complaints just like this. This is EXTREMELY dangerous. Has anyone been killed yet? The brake parts need to be built like aircraft parts.
While driving today my vehicle lost power and went into limp mode. the warning wrench came on. This is very dangerous, especially on the freeway. There is no where to get off and the vehicle slows to a stop in the middle of traffic. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it to reset the warning. I did get home, very bad situation in the middle of traffic without any warning.
Exhaust manifold bolts are breaking causing an exhaust leak and poor emissions. This is a known problem with the eco-boost motor many complaints, Ford does have an update they know the problem is exists and they will not repair it when the car is slightly out of warranty.
Throttle body failed and vehicle unexpectedly lost power while driving home from the airport at night. I did not initially realize it went into limp mode. The wrench light illuminated on the dash and I had to stop in the travel lane of a busy 45 mph street. I could not pull to the shoulder due to traffic. Other motorists were visibly angry and honking at me. After a little time I tried putting the vehicle in park, shutting it off and tried starting it again. It started with no issue and then died again a few blocks later, fortunately that time it was in a better location with no traffic. I took the vehicle to a Ford dealer the following morning, where I already had an appointment for preventative maintenance including new coolant and spark plugs. I suspected the throttle body failed after researching the issue and found a history of similar problems with other Ford products. The dealership also diagnosed a throttle body failure and charged me for a repair, which involved replacing the throttle body assembly. It is my understanding that Ford has extended warranty coverage on other models and that there may have been a recall campaign involving other models. My 2017 Ford Expedition XLT appears to have had the same issue. This problem could have been EXTREMELY dangerous if it happened on the highway or if a less experienced driver was operating the vehicle. The failure was sudden and unexpected.
Backup camera is intermittently distorted. The AC fan goes off and you have to wiggle a connector under the passenger side dash to get it back on.
Brake failed in parking lot and vehicle crashed into another car. A low brake fluid light came on and very shortly (1 minute) after the brake failed completed. Vehicle was serviced at dealer two months ago. Contacted Ford corporate and Ford dealer. Ford corporate said there is nothing they can do. Ford dealer unresponsive. This is a major safety issue. I have never heard of real issues with complete brake failure on a newer car. Very dangerous.
Shortly after the car was started and while still parked, a foul smell was detected and black smoke observed coming from the air vents. The vehicle was then turned off however within minutes of safely exiting all passengers from the vehicle, flames came out towards the passenger seat from underneath the glove box. An unsuccessful attempt was made to smother the flames with large wet towels before being successfully put out with the fire extinguisher. 911 was called and the fire department suspected the cause of the fire was the HVAC motor blower. The battery was disconnected and the car towed to the dealership where it has been for the past week. As of yesterday, according to the dealer, the source of the fire is thought to be a short circuit in the HVAC motor blower. The insurance is awaiting the fire report at this point.
Brake master cylinder failed causing brake fluid in the brake booster and little to no breaking at freeway speeds. There is a current recall on same model year F150 with the same 3.5L eco boost engine manufactured out of the same plant as our expedition. Took off the master cylinder and the brake booster was filled with brake fluid. SUV has aprox 67k miles.
