Transmission jerks. Also transmission randomly drops out of gear at 60-65 m/h which make the vehicle stall.Putting passengers dangerous situations on highway.Very dangerous.Car been in shop twice but no adequate repairs been made.Requested transmission exchange which would take care of problem.Request been denied.Putting my wife and two of my children in danger. This car has 10R80 transmission which notoriously has bad reputation.Mechanic claims could not create issue but however does see some problem with the transmission.
Vehicle does not shift properly usually during gears 3-7 and it skips and jerks really bad and it loses power. It happened as I was entering expressway and vehicle lost power and I almost got hit by a tractor trailer from behind.
I was driving 70mph when suddenly a red alert on the dashboard said coolant alert 402 degrees the car was not heating up at all before that. I pulled to the side of the road right away. Smoke started coming out trunk ran and in less than 2 minutes the car was on fire.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving approximately 60 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, and the vehicle lost motive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact returned the vehicle to the same dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that a hose on the transmission had not been installed correctly. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred two more times, and the vehicle was returned to the same dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 99,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle jerked and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a failed catalyst converter. The contact was informed that the catalyst converter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure had occurred on three separate occasions and the catalyst converter was replaced by the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not assist. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline and report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that occasionally, while putting the vehicle into drive or attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle first hesitated or jerked before shifting into gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the CDF drums and seal in the transmission were faulty and needed to be replaced. Additionally, a transmission strategy download and transmission shift adapt tables needed to be performed. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 71,000.
Driving down a highway the right side front trim that extends from the top of the windshield to the front of the luggage rack ripped off and it took a piece of the luggage rack off with it. It caused the vehicle behind me to swerve to avoid hitting it and nearly caused an accident. My local Ford Dealership told me that there is an active recall # 24S02 currently exists for similar reasons but does not currently cover my 2020 vehicle.
Driving at non-highway speeds on roads with hills, the vehicle aggressively downshifts occasionally. It isn't all the time, and it is difficult to duplicate, but it feels rough. I believe a TSB has been issued for this issue. It is well documented and should be recalled, as the known issue was repaired in the 2024 model.
From early on, the vehicle had a hard shift from 7 to 8. This was discussed with the dealership and they claimed they couldn’t recreate it. This has been the life of the vehicle. About 6 months ago it began to hard shift in other gears. 3 to 4 being the most common. Then 2 months ago it would slow down, you could hear grinding, then jerk violently forward (finally getting into gear). When we called the dealership to ask they said they would have to look at it. But it was not consistent enough. The vehicle eventually began to slip from gear and jerk forward into gear, everyday. Almost causing me to be rear ended multiple times. Loosing speed at anytime and causing random speeds with the inability to regain speed until the car “found” a gear. I would be driving 60 mph and it would find a lower gear and jerk into gear. It needs a whole new transmission. FORD is aware of this issue with the 10R80 transmission. 3.5 eco boost. My car is un driveable now. It fails to find a gear. A quick Google search will showcase exact stories just like mine with people saying the exact same thing. Harsh shifting. Jerking. Grinding. Loosing speed while driving. FORD didn’t have a fix for anyone. And now new transmissions are the only fix. Please inspect.
Transmission issue hard shifting slipping out of gears
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, the driver's side seat belt became inoperable. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that the seat belt would lock but would not retract until the vehicle was turned off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the seat belt retractor tensioner had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was restarted; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
The vehicle was in park, with the engine running. The tailgate was open as I was loading a stroller into the back and my infant into a back passenger seat car seat. The driver's door was open, back drivers side door open, and tailgate open. The front passenger's seat belt pretensioner deployed and it sounded as though something hit the vehicle. I walked around the car to inspect for damage and even looked on top of the vehicle for damage. No damage occurred as nothing hit the vehicle. My wife got into the car in the front passenger seat and could not move the seat belt. I walked around and verified that it could not be moved as it was in the rest position with the pre-tensioner deployed. Issue: Non-event with front passenger seat belt pre-tensioner deployment Available to be inspected: Yes Safety at risk: My wife just had a c-section and if deployed with her in it, would have been much worse. Additionally, cannot use the seat now that seat belt is inoperable. Issue been reproduced: No. The pre-tensioner goes off with explosive charge making reproduction impossible. Warning lamps present: No.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the vehicle hesitated while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.
Transmission went out due to faulty chip/ A/C went out due to faulty compressor
Multiple times our car has experienced issues of transmission stalling while at highway speeds, the most recent Wednesday August 7th upon acceleration on highway car lost power and ability to accelerate, a ticking noise was noticeable, very brief shifting alert came across dash and disappeared quickly, no alert was sent to my phone application. The engine did not completely die, but briefly had no power, after letting off of the gas momentarily and re trying the car shifted hard and began to accelerate again. We did take our car to the Ford garage in April of 2024 with these very complaints, we were told no such issues were found with our transmission and ended up having to pay a fee despite our car being under warranty.
On multiple occasions, our car has lurched out of gear going at fast speeds on the highway. It slips out of gear and the car shakes and then it lunges back into gear. On a few occasions, the gas pedal was also inoperable while the car was "finding the right gear". This has been extremely scary for my family when this has happened. The first time we took it to the dealership and they reprogrammed the transmission. Then, it happened again about 6 weeks after the fix, and this time the transmission valve had to be replaced.
The 2020 Ford expedition has transmission issues. It will slip gears in the middle of driving, it will stall when trying to change gears from park to reverse to drive. When accelerating the vehicle will rev up in RPMs and drastically drop speed I’ve had to almost come to a complete stop on the interstate driving 70+ miles an hour. There were no lights or warnings that appeared on the dash. We took it to a mechanic to have it inspected and we were told that we need to replace the entire transmission. We contacted the Ford dealer in which we purchased it from and they are not willing to address the issue. I am a mother of four children, and I’m regularly driving in the vehicle to take them to and from school and various activities. I am very concerned about the safety of myself as well as my children. Should we be driving and the transmission completely shut down. Since having the vehicle looked at by a mechanic, the warning signs have now turned on and appear every time I start the vehicle.
Vehicle 10 speed transmission issues. 3x in ford dealer for diagnostics and repairs. 3rd time they did a transmission rebuild. Vehicle was apparently deemed fixed and safe Since then I have almost had 2 head on collisions with 4kids and 3 adults in the vehicle at a speed of 60mph. I went to pass on a single lane road & as I pulled out and put my foot down on the gas the transmission clunked loud, went into neutral and just revved very high rpms. I had to pull back in to my lane in which the car behind me had moved up and there was no space. If it wasn’t a head on collision I could have been rear ended. I also slowed from 70mph to turn a corner and as I started the turn the transmission could find its gear and launched forward.
The chrome trim around the center console where cup holders, gearbox are located has peeled. When driving and going to pickup something off the console, the chrome that is peeling is very sharp and has cut myself and my husband. This is a known issue with people with the same vehicle. It’s distracting while driving as you get a shock and do not expect that which can cause a motor vehicle accident. It also poses a danger for people that have a fear of the sight of blood while driving too.
Lost control of vehicle…RPMs almost red lined..transmission shifting gears incorrectly
When driving down the freeway at about 65 mph, i started to accelerate and the transmission disengaged and all power was lost. I let off the gas and about 10-15 seconds later the transmission engaged and i could accelerate. This has happened on two occasions so far. This could have caused someone to crash into me as all power was lost.
Less than 74,000 miles and coolant hoses split. According to service department they have had an increase in hoses rupturing indicating a fault in the hoses.
I was in a head on collision and my airbags did not deploy but my glove box separated from my dash by about 2 inches looking as if they tried to deploy
My park aid sensor fault comes on without cause and a picture of a car blocks the view to the screen that displays directions from google maps. It comes on suddenly and sporadically and has almost caused an accident several times as I don't know where I am going when this happens. I took my car to the dealership to get this fixed. The dealership charged me $213.79 for the diagnosis and stated that this happens to alert me to a problem related to when a vehicle is approaching on the left or right and the audio component does not work. In other words, when a vehicle is approaching, the lights on the mirrors flash on but the noise does not present. They then told me that to stop the dangerous flashing of the car blocking my view of the map, that I would be charged almost $800 to repair. I told them I couldn't afford it and asked if they could just stop the random car display from happening and covering my map. To me, this is much more dangerous than the main quality defect preventing the sounds. I was told that they were not allowed to disable this malfunction and that it was not considered a quality defect or recall issue. I am currently driving in an unsafe vehicle due to a design flaw in a vehicle that is not yet 4 years old that I can't afford to fix myself. The fields below don't allow me to enter information. I have not been in an accident yet due to this. It happens at various speeds. My vehicle has about 52000 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and attempting to steer the vehicle, the steering wheel would oversteer the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering was overcompensating while steering the vehicle. The mechanic stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24E055000 (Steering). The mechanic contacted the dealer and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 50,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that there was an abnormal rattling sound while starting the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to the cam phasers. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.
Transmission started shifting hard (into and out of park to drive) and (between 3-4 and 7-8 gears). I brought my concerns to the dealership at the end of 2023 and asked if it could be reprogrammed. The advisor stated that the transmission was going bad and to just keep driving it until it failed because they are seeing a lot of failures. In July 2024 we pulled onto the highway when we attempted accelerate the engine revved to redline and the vehicle stopped accelerating. When the gas pedal was lifted the transmission started grinding back into gear. We had to slowly push the gas pedal down to get it home at 30mph. Every time it downshifted it would stop accelerating. Ford did a complete transmission replacement. I also have a 2019 F150 [XXX] ) with 79000 miles on it and it is now showing the same signs of failure with shifting. I've taken my car in for over a year multiple times for the same issue. When driving the car will jerk almost as if I've hit a car and power goes down. Many times it fails to go when accelerating after this has happened. The movement of the car is worrisome and the loud noise made can be heard out the car. When this happens the steering locks up and makes it hard to turn along with the power going out. I've been told on each occasion that nothing can be found. It never throws a code, this past weekend while traveling it threw a code TSB #23-2249
While driving in traffic there was what appreard to bre a hard downshift from the transmission that was so violent i felt like i was rear ended. At that time I lost acceleration and a message popped up on my dash that said “transmission failure” for a few seconds. It then went away and everything started working again with no problem.
Vehicle had transmission rebuilt per dealership to fix transmission jerking and skipping/getting stuck in gears both on HWY and regular roads. Since rebuilt happened less than 90 days ago, my Ford EXP. is still doing the same thing. This past week alone it has happened to me 3 times. Instance on reg road going from about 10-15mph to accelerate and pressed on the gas and vehicle would not move and jerked until it shifted and was able to speed up twice this happened between gears 2-4 this happened. Next time this happened family was on hwy heading out of town while on hwy shifting lanes vehicle jerked and transmission noises happened louder than other times and vehicle got stuck on gears 6-8 when finally able to move normally. We were told when the dealership rebuilt the transmission since warranty would not cover a new one, that this should fix the problem or maybe think of trading my truck in for a newer one.(really not the answer I was looking for). Ford needs to take responsibility for these Expeditions coming out faulty. I had already send to shop right after transmission rebuilt and they could not do anything because they could not reproduce the issue again so here I am 60 days later and again with the same issue
Issue is with Ford 10R80 transmission. While at freeway speeds ( 60/65 MPH) transmission is engaged in 8th/9th gear and you command vehicle to downshift to a passing gear (3rd for example) with a 3/4 throttle input - the gear indicator light shows 1st gear ( which is not possible going 60MPH ), but the vehicle falls into a false neutral basically loosing all power. The RPMs will rev all the way up, and you have to take your foot off of the accelerator and allow approx. 5 seconds of "coasting" before the vehicle is able to get itself back into a gear to resume power. This failure happens basically on command, and you aren't able to apply more than 1/2 throttle while driving down the freeway. Reported defect to Peoria Ford who told me no TSB exists for this issue and they aren't able to fix anything because no DTC error codes exist in the computer so I need to come pick up the vehicle. I am not forced out of a Ford rental and back into a vehicle with a known safety defect according to your TSB bulletin 22-2428. Ford needs to recall these unsafe vehicles off the road instead of currently waiting for the warranties to run out on all of them so they aren't liable for repairs. This is a well known/documented safety problem and needs to be addressed ASAP with a nationwide recall. Also, power running boards fail to deploy causing a fall hazard ( my pregnant wife has fallen out and in of the vehicle because the step isnt there. If referencing the picture below : 1st gear, no power/boost gauge shows 0, vehicle is going 60 MPH on the freeway.
The vehicle jerks when you accelerate and begins driving.
The 10 speed transmission lost all power and would not accelerate at freeway speeds. The engine was running and was working fine but had no power. Several severe jerks and then power was restored by the transmission. Losing power at freeway speeds almost cause accidents each of the 4 times it happened. Other vehicles had to take evasive action to avoid hitting me. The vehicle is current at a Ford Dealership for diagnostic and repair. I had a Shift System Fault error show on dash as well as See Manual warning as well
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. While the contact's wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that the transmission was slipping while driving. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond, and jolted forward while responding. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal on several occasions, the vehicle failed to respond, and the engine revved as if the transmission was neutral(N). The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where a transmission flush was performed and the TCM was updated; however, the failure persisted. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V197000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Several times per month, At normal highway speeds, vehicle slips out of gear into first gear. Vehicle also grinds through gears when searching for correct gear. Transmission shifts hard under normal conditions when up shifting to third gear.
As I was merging into traffic, I began accelerating to get to the same speed as the flow of traffic. My transmission shifted, seemed to search for a gear, and was unable to engage. The transmission slammed in and out of gear and I was unable to gain any speed beyond the 45 MPH I was going and was almost rear ended getting into the I-5 as I could not get up to speed with normal traffic. I had to pull on to the side of the road for the safety of my family due to this continued issue. The ‘wrench’/check manual light came on. After sitting for a couple minutes I began driving again, it was very jerky shifting through the gears and very delayed between shifts. The vehicle consistently seems confused on what gear it is trying to shift into, then will lose all power and responsiveness for up to 30 seconds before finally placing itself in a gear and resuming normal operations. This happens almost every time we drive the vehicle now, searching for gears, delayed shifting, sometimes it will even catch when the engine is at a higher RPM and lunge forward. This has become a huge safety concern for my family, to the point where the Expedition is parked and only driven by me alone, if it HAS to be. I will not have my wife and family driving in this car until Ford does some sort of recall on this 10R80 transmission. The CDF Drum has a faulty drum sleeve that slides out of place and covers some of the holes the transmission fluid flows through causing a plethora of issues. If it wasn’t a known issue, Ford would not have created a TSB for the KNOWN issue.
Transmission failure with gears 2-3-4-5-7. Hard jerking and shifting when attempting to accelerate. Transmission slips while driving especially at stop lights which can cause an accident or rear end accident. Putting other drivers at risk by not being able to fully control acceleration of vehicle coming on or off highway ramps. Ford dealership and dealership of purchase has been made aware of issues with vehicle. Gear shift failure as well has service wrench appears when troubles start and continue. Issues 1st appeared in April of 2024.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the transmission slipped and independently downshifted. The contact stated that the failure caused the vehicle to skid. In addition, the contact stated that the manual warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 61,500.
While increasing acceleration the vehicle will jerk really hard and the check manual light will come on and act like it’s going to completely stop. When you let off the gas it will take a second but go back to normal. It’s very scary while in traffic
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission slipped out of gear and the clutch remained in neutral. The maintenance warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was able to restart on the third attempt; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was contacted and advised the contact to contact the manufacture for assistance. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHSTA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 96,000.
The contact owns a 2020 Ford Expedition. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 65 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power. The driver was able to pull to the shoulder of the roadway, where the vehicle was restarted. There were several unknown warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the transmission and recommended that the transmission be rebuilt. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Technical Service Bulletin: 22-2428. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened.
