VEHICLE HAS BAD FUME ODOR THAT WILL MAKE YOU LIGHT HEADED AND HAS GIVEN ME HEADACHES UPON ACCELERATION ESPECIALLY AT HIGHER SPEEDS LIKE GOING UP BIG HILLS ON THE HIGHWAY. MY VEHICLE WAS AT FORD TWICE FOR WHICH THEY CHARGED ME OVER $500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM BUT IT STILL PERSISTS AND THEY ARE NOT WILLING OR CAPABLE TO FIX IT PROPERLY
GALVANIC CORROSION ON THE HOOD OF CAR WHICH FORD IS WELL AWARE IS HAPPENING . FORD ONLY WANTS TO SAND AND PAINT EVEN THOUGH IT IS UNDER WARRANTY. THIS WILL ONLY HAPPEN AGAIN IN TWO YEARS OR LESS , ONLY THEN IT WILL BE UP TO ME TO COVER THE COSTS.
HAVE RECENTLY BEEN MADE AWARE OF COMPLAINTS FROM EXPLORER OWNERS OF A FOUL SMELL COMING OUT OF AC VENTS, SIMILAR TO AN EXHAUST FUME, SULFUR OR ROTTEN EGG. HOWEVER, THE FUME THAT WE HAVE EXPERIENCED IS MORE LIKE A RANCID SOUR ODOR EXUDING FROM AC VENTS. THE SMELL IS MOST NOTICIBLE UPON CRANKING ENGINE AND THEN ACCELERATING. UNTIL NOW, NO FORMAL COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED TO FORD OR OUR DEALERSHIP. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN AUGUST 2014. ODOR BEGAN TO OCCUR APPROXIMATELY 1 YEAR AGO. WE ARE AWARE OF A REAR SUSPENSION TOE LINK POSSIBLE FRACTURE RECALL AT THIS TIME.
FOR THE PAST ROUGHLY 20K MILES, WE HAVE BEEN SMELLING EXHAUST IN THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. SO BAD THAT SOMETIMES WE HAVE TO STOP DRIVING IT, AND IT HAS MADE MY FAMILY ILL. MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO THE DEALER, WHOM CLAIMS THEY EITHER CANNOT REPLICATE, OR THAT IT IS LEAKING OIL. I HAVE CALLED THEM ON THEIR BS MULTIPLE TIMES, TO NO AVAIL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK/SEIZE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER, WHO HAD A CASE OPEN, AND STATED THAT THE WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER ACTIVE. THE CONTACT FOUND THAT THE FAILURE WAS DIRECTLY RELATED TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V286000 (STEERING). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000. UPDATED 04/06/16*LJ CONSUMER STATED STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKING UP AND WAS REPAIRED AND REPLACED. UPDATED 05/29/18*JB
AFTER STOPPING THE CAR AND PLACING THE SHIFTER IN PARK AND TURNING ENGINE OFF I AM GETTING AN AUDIBLE ALARM AND PANEL MESSAGE THAT VEHICLE IS NOT IN PARK. CAR IS VERIFIED TO BE IN PARK AS SHIFTER IS ALL THE WAY FORWARD AND HELD IN POSITION BY THE DETENT AS WELL AS THE P INDICTOR SHOWING ITS POSITION. DEALERSHIP WANTS TO REPLACE ENTIRE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY FOR $600.00+.
WHILE DRIVING WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING OR HEAT ON THE VEHICLE HAS A STRONG ODOR OF BURNING PLASTIC OR SULFUR TYPE SMELL.

DOORS VINYL BECOMING UNGLUED AND PREVENTING LOCKING AND UNLOCKING OF THE DOORS
2014 FORD EXPLORER. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE OF VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO PULL EXHAUST FUMES INSIDE THE VEHICLE. SEVERAL ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THE OWNER'S EXPENSE. THE TAIL END OF THE EXHAUST APPARATUS WAS REPLACED IN ORDER TO FORCE GAS DOWN AND AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. THIS SEEMED TO SUCCESSFULLY REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO BE ADVISED ON THE PROGRESS OF THE INVESTIGATION AND IF THE VEHICLE IS SAFE. UPDATED 06/19/2017*JS
NOISES COMING FROM FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION
I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT MY OWN VEHICLE BUT OTHERS. IN THE LAST YEAR, IT SEEMS THAT 99% OF CARS I SEE WITH NO HEADLIGHTS ON ARE NEWER MODEL FORDS, ALL PRODUCTS. IT USED TO BE SOMETHING SEEN ONCE A WEEK OR SO BUT NOW I SEE THIS SEVERAL TIMES A DAY. I AM FILING A COMPLAINT NOW BECAUSE I JUST SAW A 2014 FORD EXPLORER POLICE CAR WITH NO HEADLIGHTS ON. THIS IS AN ISSUE THAT IS SO PREVALENT THAT IT POINTS TO SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS AND CONSISTENT THAN DRIVER IGNORANCE AND MORE TO POOR DESIGN OF HEADLIGHT SWITCH OR HEADLIGHT PROGRAMMING ISSUES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER WITHOUT WARNING. AS THE CONTACT APPLIED FORCE TO THE STEERING WHEEL IN ORDER TO STEER THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED TO THE SIDE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. UPON INSPECTION, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE HAD FRACTURED. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR BRUISES AND THE REAR PASSENGER SUSTAINED MINOR NECK BRUISES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTROL ARM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 18,500.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,000.
MY CAR SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN EGGS WHEN AC TURNED ON OR WHEN WINDOWS DOWN AND AIR ON LOW. THIS HAPPENS TYPICALLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I BROUGHT MY CAR INTO SERRAMONTE FORD IN COLMA ON DECEMBER 7, 2015. THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. I ALSO HAD A BLACK GREESE LEAK. HAD TO HAVE MY TRANSFER CASE REPLACED AT 64K MILES???
MY VEHICLE HAS HAD ONGOING ISSUES THAT DATE BACK TO 10/31/2015. I HAVE REPAIR ORDERS THAT SHOWS THE ISSUES ARE CONSISTENCE AND THE DEALERS THAT HAVE ATTEMPT TO REPAIR THEM HAVE DONE SO TO NO AVAIL. THE ISSUES ARE ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL IN NATURE. BECAUSE OF THESE ONGOING ISSUES, WHICH INCLUDES EXHAUST SMELLS. MY VEHICLE HAS BEEN OUT OF SERVICE FOR OVER 88 DAYS AND THE VEHICLE STILL HAVE THE EXHAUST SMELL.
EXPERIENCING VERY STRONG EXHAUST / SULFUR SMELL IN CABIN AREA UPON MEDIUM TO HARD ACCELERATION. BOUGHT CAR IN SPRING OF 2014 AND NOTICED IT WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OR TWO. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A CAR IN FRONT OF ME, BUT THAT IS NOT THE CASE AS I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS NUMEROUS TIMES THIS WITH NO ONE ELSE ON THE ROAD. IT OCCURS WHEN YOU PASS SOMEONE OR GO UP A STEEP INCLINE. WHEN TOWING MY BOAT THE SMELL IS UNBEARABLE AND YOU HAVE TO HAVE THE WINDOWS ROLLED DOWN, BUT EVEN WITH THAT IT TAKES A LONG TIME TO GET THE SMELL OUT OF THE CABIN. SITUATION OCCURS WITH THE FRESH AIR VENTS ON AND/OR THE RECIRC AIR ON ' VENT SETTING DOESN'T MATTER. I'VE BEEN PUTTING OFF GETTING THIS LOOKED AT SINCE IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS NO DEFINITIVE FIX, BUT SINCE THE CAR NOW HAS 29,000 MILES ON IT, I WANT IT TO GET CHECKED OUT BEFORE WARRANTY IS UP. IT IS ALARMING THAT WITH ALL THE COMPLAINTS FOR THIS HAZARDOUS/DEADLY SITUATION THAT THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL FOR A BETTER FIX THAN THE TSB.
NASTY EXHAUST SMELL ENTERING THE CABIN WHEN MERGING ON THE INTERSTATE, DRIVING UP A LONG HILL, OR PASSING VEHICLES. THIS OCCURS WHEN HAVING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY -- HIGH RPMS FOR EXTENDED PERIODS. SMELL APPEARS TO COME FROM BACK TO FRONT AND IS DIFFICULT TO GET RID OF. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY BE OTHER VEHICLE'S EXHAUST ENTERING THE CABIN, HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING LONG PERIODS IN AREAS WITH NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND THE EXHAUST STENCH CONTINUES. NOTED METALLIC TASTE IN MOUTH AFTER SMELLING ODOR VEHICLE.

ON SEPTEMBER 17, 2015 PICKED MY DAUGHTER UP FROM SWIM PRACTICE AT 5:50 PM THEN WE WENT TO PICK HER FRIEND UP AND WENT ON 220 TOWARDS MILL HALL TO DROP THEM OFF AT A FOOTBALL GAME, WHILE ON HIGH WAY SMELLED AN AWFUL SMELL, THOUGHT IT WAS CAR IN FRONT OF ME, WE PROCEEDED TO MILL HALL EXIT WHERE WE GOT OFF AND TOOK THEM TO CENTRAL MOUNTAIN MIDDLE SCHOOL DROPPED THEM OFF TO A FOOTBALL GAME AND PROCEEDED THROUGH PARKING LOT WHICH IS 5 MPH OR LESS AND AT APPROXIMATELY 6:16 PM MY CAR LOCKED UP SKIDDED OVER TO CURB AND HIT THAT A COUPLE TIMES AND THEN ACROSS THE PARKING LOT WHERE IT STOPPED HALF IN MIDDLE OF ROAD. I WAITED 4 HOURS FOR A TOW TRUCK WHICH AS TOWED TO FORD GARAGE, NEXT DAY STATE POLICE LOOKED AT MY CAR BEFORE ANYONE ELSE AND DEFINITELY A FAULTY LOWER CONTROL ARM WHICH SNAPPED OFF.. ON SEPTEMBER 23, 2015 FORD GARAGE CALLED SAID FORD IS NOT GOING TO PAY FOR MY CAR OR LOOK AT IT AND I NEED TO CALL INTO MY INSURANCE COMPANY. ...UPDATED 12/29/15 *BF AFTER INSPECTING THE LOWER CONTROL ARM, IT APPEARED TO BE WEAK IN THE AREA OF THE BREAK. THERE WAS DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE AS A RESULT OF THE BREAK, BUT NO EVIDENCE TO INDICATE ANY DAMAGE PRIOR TO THE BREAK.

IN NEWPORT BEACH, CA, OFFICER MCDOWELL, WHILE ON DUTY AS A NEWPORT BEACH POLICE OFFICER, WAS DRIVING THE SUBJECT VEHICLE IN ROUTE TO RESPOND TO A TRAFFIC COLLISION. OFFICER MCDOWELL WAS SOUTHBOUND IN THE NUMBER 2 LANE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 50-55 MPH. ON DUTY NEWPORT BEACH POLICE OFFICER DAN MESRI WAS DRIVING A SEPARATE POLICE VEHICLE, AND WAS TRAVELING SOUTHBOUND IN THE NUMBER ONE LANE SLIGHTLY BEHIND THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. ON DUTY NEWPORT BEACH POLICE OFFICER NATHAN FARRIS WAS DRIVING A THIRD POLICE VEHICLE AND WAS SOUTHBOUND IN THE NUMBER ONE LANE SLIGHTLY AHEAD OF THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. BOTH OFFICER MESRI AND OFFICER FARRIS, AMONG OTHERS, WITNESSED THE SUBSEQUENT ACCIDENT SEQUENCE. OFFICER MCDOWELL SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY LOST CONSCIOUSNESS WITHIN THE SUBJECT VEHICLE. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, AND AS EVIDENCED BY THE DASH-CAM VIDEO IN OFFICER MESRI'S POLICE VEHICLE, THE SUBJECT VEHICLE BEGAN DRIFTING TO THE LEFT. IT CROSSED THE NUMBER ONE LANE AND THEN CROSSED THE CENTER MEDIAN. THE SUBJECT VEHICLE CONTINUED DRIFTING LEFT ACROSS THE NORTHBOUND LANES OF JAMBOREE RD., COMING WITHIN INCHES OF A HEAD-ON COLLISION WITH A NORTHBOUND VEHICLE. THE SUBJECT VEHICLE CROSSED ALL NORTHBOUND LANES, WENT OVER THE CURB, AND STRUCK A TREE HEAD-ON. ACCORDING TO WITNESSES, THE SUBJECT VEHICLE NEVER SLOWED DOWN DURING THE ACCIDENT SEQUENCE. THIS ACCIDENT SEQUENCE IS HEREAFTER REFERRED TO AS THE 'SUBJECT INCIDENT.'

THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED SEVERAL TIMES AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR FLOW SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT LATER EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTIES IN MANEUVERING THE STEERING WHEEL AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A CERTAIN MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED. THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED, BUT THE REMEDY FAILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,625.
MY FORD EXPLORER HAS SIGNIFICANT EXHAUST SMELL IN THE VEHICLE AT TIMES, USUALLY AFTER I HAVE KICKED IT DOWN INTO PASSING GEAR, SUCH AS IN CLIMBING HILLS. WHEN I HAD IT IN FOR SERVICE, I ASKED THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM TO TRY TO IDENTIFY WHAT IS CAUSING IT AND THEY CLAIMED THEY COULD NOT DISCERN ANY ODOR. I HAVE SINCE LEARNED OF THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETINS THAT HAVE BEEN PUSHED OUT BY FORD FOR MY VERY PROBLEM AND HAVE ALSO LEARNED THAT THERE IS NO INDICATION ANY OF THEIR EFFORTS TO FIX THE PROBLEM ARE ACTUALLY WORKING. I CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY FORD FOR EASTER EGG HUNTS, SO I AND MY FAMILY ARE WAITING FOR A RECALL. IN THE MEANWHILE, WE ARE DRIVING THE VEHICLE WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN. WE HAVE BEEN CONTACTED BY ONE LAW FIRM SO FAR THAT IS INVOLVED IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT OVER THIS ISSUE. WE WOULD RATHER HAVE FORD FIX THE PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WAS INITIALLY NOTICED JUST AFTER WE BOUGHT IT, BUT WE THOUGHT IT WAS DUE TO SOMETHING ON THE ENGINE THAT WOULD BURN OFF IN TIME. THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED THE ENTIRE TIME WE HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM DOESN'T SEEM DIRECTLY RELATED TO SPEED OF TRAVEL.
MY GRANDSON WENT OFF THE ROAD AT 70MPH INTO SOME PINE TREES AND COMPLETLE SEVERED THE PASSAGENS WHEEL OFF AND WINDSHIELD COMPLETLE DESTROYES ROOF DAMAGE AND BODY DAMAGE AND NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I TALKE TO A CUSTOMER WHO ALSO HAD A 2014 EXPLORER THAT WAS INVOLVED IN A COLLISION AND THEIR AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY EITHER .THE DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE WAS ON THE FRONT AND THE SIDE YET NO AIRBAGE DEPLOYED. SOMETHING IS WRONG !!! ITS A MIRACLE MY GRANDSON IS ALIVE I HAVE PICTURES.
WHEN ACCELERATING ONTO HIGHWAY, THERE IS A STRONG EXHAUST-LIKE ODOR COMING FROM THE VENTS. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY CANNOT FIND ANY REASON WHY THE ODOR WOULD BE COMING INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DISTURBING AS I ALSO HAVE MY 4 YEAR OLD INHALING THESE FUMES WHICH I BELIEVE IS CARBON MONOXIDE. THIS NEEDS TO BE CHECKED INTO BY FMC.

MY SAFETY AS WELL AS MY FAMILY'S SAFETY IS AT RISK FOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING, RESPITORY DISTRESS, ASTHMA AND POSSIBLE UNCONSCIOUSNESS WHILE DRIVING. THE OVERWHELMING ENGINE EXHAUST FUMES WITHIN THE PASSENGER CABIN AT TIMES IS UNBEARABLE.

THE CONTACT INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER WHO REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE RECEIVE A SECOND DIAGNOSTIC, WHICH RENDERED THE SAME RESULTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO LEAVE AN AUTO SHOP, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO REACTIVATE THE POWER STEERING AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO HER HOME. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE, BUT COULD NOT DRIVE TO THE DEALER DUE TO THE POWER STEERING FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 12284176. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
WE WERE DRIVING TO OUR NEW HOME FROM VISITING FAMILY AND PICKING UP THE VEHICLE. DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70+ MILES AN HOUR I NOTICED THE STEERING WAS TIGHTENING UP AND SEEMED TO BE OVERCORRECTING WHEN I TRIED TO STAY IN THE LANE. FINALLY THE ADVANCE TRAC LIGHT CAME ON AND STATED THERE WAS A STEERING FAILURE. I PULLED OVER TO A REST STOP IMMEDIATELY AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. WHEN I RESTARTED THE VEHICLE POWER STEERING WAS COMPLETELY GONE. CAR HAD TO BE TOWED TO NEAREST TOWN WHERE WE WERE STUCK FOR 4 DAYS. DEALERSHIP ENDED UP REPLACING THE POWER STEERING GEAR.
VEHICLE IS EMITTING CARBON MONOXIDE AND OTHER DANGEROUS FUMES INTO CABIN WHILE IN OPERATION
STEERING IS INOPERABLE. NO POWER STEERING AT ALL WHILE DRIVING. CAN NOT TURN LEFT OR RIGHT, HAVE TO PULL OVER TO BE SAFE. ERROR MESSAGE SAYS TERRAIN MANAGEMENT FAILURE AND ADVANCED TRAC SYSTEM FAILURE. DEALER REPLACED THE WHOLE POWER STEERING RACK AND RETURN MY CAR TO ME. AFTER 1 MONTH AND A HALF, LOST STEERING AGAIN ON THE ROAD. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN YOU CAN NOT TURN ON THE HIGHWAY. SAME ERROR MESSAGES, SAME PROBLEMS FOR THE SECOND TIME. MY CAR IS 2014 WITH ONLY 12000 MILES RIGHT NOW. UNBELIEVABLE!

WHEN THE VEHICLE MAKES AN ACCELERATION IT CREATES A "GASOLINE LIKE ODOR" INSIDE DE CABIN OF THE FORD EXPLORER 2014. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT IN A FORD DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION THEY RESPONDED BY SAYING THAT A PLASTIC COMPONENT WAS INSIDE THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. THE PROBLEM PERSISTED AFTER THE SUPPOSED PROBLEM WAS FOUND. THE PROBLEMS OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION.
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2014 FORD EXPLORER AND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE. THE EXHAUST FUMES COMING INTO THE VEHICLE DURING ACCELERATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I BROUGHT MY CAR TO DEALERSHIP WHO STATED THEY FOUND THE FAULT ON THE COMPUTER BUT COULD NOT GET THE POWER STEERING TO GO OUT ON THEM SO IT IS A WAIT AND SEE. ALSO, MY NEIGHBOR HAS 2013 WITH 44,000K MILES AND IT JUST COST HER $1700 TO REPLACE POWER STEERING. SEEMS THIS IS STILL AN ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER'S BODY SHOP. THE TECHNICIAN MOVED THE FRONT BUMPER AND REPLACED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BODY APRON PANEL ALONG WITH NEW BOLTS, BUT THE NOISE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
WHEN APPLYING FULL BRAKING AT A STOP SIGN OR RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE STOPS BUT THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION CONTINUE TO RACE AT FULL SPEED. THE BRAKE PULSATES LIKE THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM IS ENGAGED. IN ORDER TO GET THE VEHICLE BACK TO NORMAL THE ENGINE MUST BE SHUT OFF OR THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGED. IT WILL THEN START UP NORMALLY. WE HAVE HAD 11 OCCASIONS WITHIN THE PAST 2 MONTHS WHERE THIS HAS OCCURRED, THIS HAS OCCURRED WHEN COMING DOWN FROM HIGHWAY LONG DISTANCE DRIVING AND IT HAS ALSO HAPPENED ON A PARKING LOT VERY LOW SPEED. IT IS ALL I COULD DO TO PRESS HARD ENOUGH ON THE BRAKES TO STOP. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEIR DIAGNOSTICS SHOW NOTHING AND THE DEALERSHIP STATES THEY MUST BE ABLE TO EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM FIRST (DUPLICATE IT). FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS BEEN CALLED THE REGIONAL SALES MANAGER TOLD ME TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. MR. MCHALE THE MANAGER AT FMC (866-631-3788 EXT. 77713) ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER 7644437 TO THE PROBLEM BUT HE ALSO STATED THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BEFORE IT COULD BE RESOLVED. I TOLD HIM IF I MISJUDGE OR AM UNABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP THAT I MAY BE PUSHING UP DAISIES. THEY DO NOT SEEM TO UNDERSTAND THE SEVERITY OF THE PROBLEM. IT WOULD SEEM TO ME THAT A MECHANIC WOULD LOOK FOR A SENSOR OR SWITCH THAT WOULD DISENGAGE THE TRANS MISSION WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED OR A SENSOR OR CONTROL THAT SLOWS THE ENGINE. I AM GETTING TO THE POINT I FEAR FOR MY LIFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE UNTIL IT IS REPAIRED. I ALSO MENTIONED THAT WHEN I TURN THE VEHICLE OFF DURING THE INCIDENT THERE IS A LOT OF CLUNKING FROM THE ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION, I AM SURE DAMAGE HAS BEEN DONE TO THEM. *CN
THE FIRST TIME I TOOK MY NEW VEHICLE OUT AT NIGHT I STRUGGLED SEEING THE ROAD EVEN WITH THE FOG LIGHTS ON. WHEN YOU LOOK OUT OVER THE HOOD THERE IS A BLACK LINE AT HOOD HEIGHT AND THE LIGHT APPEARS ABOVE THE BLACK LINE. SO THERE IS NOT MUCH LIGHT HITTING THE ROAD. WHEN MAKING A TURN THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT FOLLOW THE ROAD ON THE TURN AS THEY APPEAR OFF IN THE DISTANCE AND NOT DOWN ON THE ROAD. YOU VIRTUALLY CANNOT SEE IN RURAL AREAS WHEN MAKING A TURN. EVEN HIGH BEAMS DO NOT ILLUMINATE THE ROAD VERY WELL. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE HAS AN ACCIDENT AND KILLS THEMSELVES.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NOVEMBER 19, 2019. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.

SMELLS LIKE SOMETHING IN THE EMISSIONS IS GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE, AND CAN BE SMELLED WHEN FOLLOWING THE VEHICLE, TOO. ODOR IS NOTICEABLE RANDOMLY, SOMETIMES WHEN IN MOTION, SOMETIMES ONCE THE VEHICLE IS STARTED, AND SOMETIMES WHEN IT IS STATIONARY. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING IN THIS 2014 EXPLORER LIMITED SINCE WE BOUGHT IT PRE-OWNED IN 2015. THIS PROBLEM WAS REPORTED TO THE DEALER AND NO KNOWN ACTION WAS TAKEN. IF I RECALL CORRECTLY, THEY SAID SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF, "WE HEAR ABOUT THIS, BUT IT'S JUST THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER GETTING BROKEN IN." WE FOUND THAT ODD CONSIDERING THE VEHICLE WAS 1 YR OLD WHEN WE PURCHASED IT AS A PRE-OWNED VEHICLE. WE WILL BE TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER INSPECTION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE CONSIDERING NEW REPORTS OF PROBLEMS IN THE NEWS. A SERVICE REPORT IS ON FILE FROM MAY OR JUNE 2015. WE HAVE HAD THIS LOOKED INTO ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS BY FORD DEALERS. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SEALED AND TESTED WITH SMOKE AND THE EXHAUST HAS BEEN REPLACED AND WE ARE STILL EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM. THE CABIN FILLS WITH EXHAUST FUMES AND YOU HAVE TO ROLL DOWN THE WINDOW IN ORDER TO GET RID OF IT. IT SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN THE A/C IS ON. WE HAVE RESPONDED TO ALL RECALL PAPERWORK. WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET FORD TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS PROBLEM AND COMPLETELY FIX IT. WE DO HAVE DOCUMENTS AVAILABLE SHOULD YOU REQUIRE THEM.
