REAL BAD EXHAUST SMELL COMING FROM AC VENTS WHEN PASSING ANOTHER CAR AT HIGH SPEED CAR HAS BEEN TO DEALER TWO TIMES EXHAUST SMELL STILL THERE.
I PURCHASED MY 2015 FORD EXPLORER LIMITED IN NOVEMBER 2015 . I SPECIAL ORDERED THE VEHICLE WHICH TOOK JUST ABOUT SIX WEEKS TO ARRIVE. SINCE THE FIRST DAY I NOTICED AND ALSO FAMILY MEMBERS NOTICED A SMELL . AT FIRST I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS THE NEWNESS OF THE VEHICLE AND THE BREAK IN PERIOD . OVER THE MONTHS I'VE NOTICED THE SMELL NEVER DISSIPATED WHEN ACCELERATING TO HIGHWAY SPEEDS . I'M IN AVIATION AND HAVING ANY TYPE OF FUMES ENTERING THE CABIN AREA WOULD IMMEDIATELY RAISE THE RED FLAG , NOTIFYING CUSTOMERS . I DO UNDERSTAND THE AUTO INDUSTRY IS MUCH DIFFERENT , BUT IN THE SAME BREATH THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF CONSUMERS BREATHING IN THESE FUMES COULD AND WILL CAUSE HEALTH PROBLEMS . I'VE READ MOST OF THE POST CONCERNING THE DIRECTION SOME DEALERSHIPS ARE BEING GUIDED FROM FORD WITH THE RESULTS NOT FIXING THE ISSUE .EMISSIONS WITH NEWER VEHICLES ARE MUCH BETTER AS WITH AIRCRAFT , BUT ONCE AGAIN WHAT IS THE COST TO SOMEONES HEALTH . I'VE BEEN A FORD OWNER FOR MANY , MANY YEARS AND THIS IS VERY TROUBLING TO SAY THE LEAST . FORD HAS A RESPONSIBILITY TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE . I'M SURE FORD ENGINEERS ARE WORKING DAY AND NIGHT TO RESOLVE THIS . I HOPE THAT OTHER CONSUMERS WITH THE SAME CONCERNS TAKE THE TIME TO REACH OUT AND HOPEFULLY NOT FIND THEMSELVES IN I'LL HEALTH BEFORE HAND .
EXHAUST SMELL ENTERS THE CABIN UPON MODERATE TO HARD ACCELERATION.
WHILE DRIVING UP HILL OR WHEN IT DOWN SHIFTS WE GET A STRONG ORDER OF CARBON MONOXIDE AND IT SEEMS AS IF IS COMING FORM THE VENTS. THIS HAS BEEN ONGOING SINCE WE PURCHASED IT IN 2015. WE HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING HEADACHES FROM THIS ISSUE WHILE DRIVING.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, EXHAUST FUMES ENTERED THE VEHICLE FROM THE VENTS. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS WITH THE LOW AND HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS ACTIVATED, THE LIGHTS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE PROPERLY. THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL LINE THROUGH THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT. THE CONTACT CALLED A LOCAL DEALER (COCONUT POINT FORD, 22400 S TAMIANMI TRL, ESTERO, FL 33928) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT ALIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: CAS13705636. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED BACK TO THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. *TT CONSUMTER STATED THE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT ILLUMINATE THE RIGHT OR LEFT SIDES OF THE ROAD. UPDATED 9/18/18*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT FLASHED INTERMITTENTLY. THE TIRES WERE ADDED AIR BUT THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WE HAVE TAKEN THE EXPLORER INTO DEALERSHIP A FEW TIMES FOR THE SULPHUR SMELL AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING TO FIX THIS. NOW ACCORDING TO THE NEWS REPORTS THERE IS A LEGITIMATE PROBLEM ON FORD BEHALF. YES WE SMELL THE SULPHUR WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE ANY DISTANCE ON THE ROAD. WE WANT FORD TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE. I HAVE BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH ASTHMA WHICH I AM CONCERNED ABOUT MY HEALTH AS WELL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE ACCELERATING, EXHAUST FUMES ENTERED THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE FRONT VENTS. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS BUILD UP FROM THE FUEL INJECTORS, WHICH NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000. UPDATED 09/06/16*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT THE DEALER, UPON ACCELERATION, THE AIR CONDITION/HEAT FAN CUTS OFF OR SLOWS DOWN, AND THE EXHAUST SMELL CONTINUED TO ENTER THE VEHICLE. The contact owns a 2015 Ford Explorer. The contact stated that the air bag warning light was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was discovered that the cause of the failure was related to the rear middle row seat belt assembly. The air bag light was illuminated due to the seat belt assembly faulty wiring. The defect was initially repaired under warranty; however, the failure persisted, and the warranty expired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact of a Customer Satisfaction Program related to the failure; however, the vehicle was not included in the program. The contact was then given a case number. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was 13,681.
STRONG SMELL OF EXHAUST IN CABIN OF VEHICLE ONCE CAR WAS WARMED UP. BEGAN ALMOST IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASE OF CAR, BUT WAS THOUGHT TO BE NEW CAR "BURN OFF" OF CHEMICALS USED IN PRODUCTION. BECAME VERY SIGNIFICANT ONCE WEATHER WAS COOLER AND NO WINDOWS COULD BE OPENED WHILE DRIVING. ALSO VERY SIGNIFICANT WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC. BACK TO DEALER 4 DIFFERENT TIMES OVER A PERIOD OF 4-5 MONTHS. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS MADE TO CORRECT PROBLEM. DEALER CALLED FORD HOT LINE MANY TIMES FOR HELP. ENTIRE EXHAUST SYSTEM REPLACED ALONG WITH "OTHER" MANY PARTS, INCLUDING R&R MUFFLER ASSEMBLY AND COMPLETE UNDERCOATING OF ALL REAR SEAMS FINALLY FIXED IN EARLY 2016 AFTER HAVING TO BE TOWED IN TO DEALER DUE TO LOSS OF TRANSMISSION FLUID FROM A PTU INTERMEDIATE SHAFT LEAKING AGAIN AFTER BEING REPLACED 01/19/2016 AS PART OF EXHAUST PROBLEM. THIS CAR SPENT MORE TIME IN THE SHOP AND I DROVE, I THINK, ALL OF THE DEALERS RENTAL VEHICLES DURING THAT 3 TO 4 MONTH PERIOD. LEMON LAW HERE IN MA COULD HAVE BEEN INITIATED IF NEED BE AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS AT FIXING THE PROBLEM. I WAS JUST FRUSTRATED WITH ALL THE TIME AND DRIVING WASTED TO BE BACK AND FORTH TO DEALER. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN RESOLVED AS OF NOW, BUT WILL BE VERY CAREFUL TO WATCH FOR ANY RECURRENCE. CARBON MONOXIDE IS NOT A GOOD THING!!!!!
EVIDENCE OF CARBON MONOXIDE COMING INTO THE CABIN OF MY FORD EXPLORER - PLEASE BE ADVISED I LEASED A 2015 FORD EXPLORER XLT FROM AL PACKER FORD IN WEST PALM BEACH FLORIDA ON 3-21-2015. IMMEDIATELY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE WHEN I GOT ON THE HIGHWAY TO DRIVE HOME I SMELLED A BURNING SMELL AND THOUGHT IT MAY BE THE TYPICAL ENGINE BURNOFF SMELL THAT HAPPENS ON SOME NEW CARS. AFTER THE BURNING SMELL CONTINUED FOR MANY MONTHS AFTER RAPID ACCELERATION OF THE CAR, I TOOK THE CAR TO THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. MULTIPLE FIREMEN RODE WITH ME IN THE CAR AND TESTED THE VEHICLE FOR CARBON MONOXIDE WITH THEIR DRAGER X-AM 2500. THE DEVICE CAME BACK POSITIVE FOR CARBON MONOXIDE IN THE VEHICLE. THE CARBON MONOXIDE LEVELS APPEAR AS SOON AS YOU ACCELERATE. THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TESTED 3 MINUTES OF DRIVING BUT WITHIN 3 MINUTES THE LEVEL GOT TO 38 PPM. I BOUGHT MY OWN CO DETECTOR AFTER THAT AND HAVE SEEN LEVELS GET HIGHER INTO THE 50'S AFTER DRIVING 20 MINUTES AND MAKING MULTIPLE ACCELERATIONS. I DIDNT WANT TO CONTINUE THE TESTING FURTHER AS I WAS CONCERNED FOR MY HEALTH. I HAVE BOTH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT FIRE INCIDENT REPORT STATING THAT CARBON MONOXIDE WAS BUILDING IN THE CAR, ALONG WITH A SERVICE INVOICE FROM AL PACKER FORD STATING THAT A CARBON MONOXIDE TESTER SHOWS EVIDENCE OF EXHAUST FUMES IN THE VEHICLE. I KEPT BRINGING THE CAR BACK TO FORD MULTIPLE TIMES COMPLAINING, I BROUGHT THE SERVICE EMPLOYEES IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME AND SHOWED THEM THE CO READINGS. THEY STATED THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID NOT HAVE A CO METER. EACH TIME THEY TRIED TO FIX THE PROBLEM WITH NO SUCCESS. I STARTED THE LEMON LAW PROCESS BUT FORD MADE THE PROCESS SO DIFFICULT THAT WHILE I WAS WAITING FOR THE ENGINEER TO COME OUT TO SEE THE CAR I TRADED IT IN. I WAS IN FEAR OF MY FAMILY'S HEALTH BREATHING IN THE CONSTANT EXHAUST FUMES THAT WERE COMING IN MY VEHICLE EVERY TIME I DID A RAPID ACCELERATION.
UPDATE TO NHTSA COMPLAINT #10914850 VEHICLE STILL IN SERVICE SINCE 9/26/16. TOTAL DAYS AT DEALER FOR SERVICE DUE TO EXHAUST FUMES / CHEMICAL SMELL IN PASSENGER COMPARTMENT: 26 AS OF 10/16/16. HAVE BEEN TOLD FORD'S ENGINEERING REP (DURING FORD'S "FINAL REPAIR ATTEMPT" UNDER LEMON LAW) ALSO SMELLED FUMES IN CABIN UNDER WOT AND WHEN ENGINE UNDER LOAD. WAS TOLD THAT IT COULD NOT BE CARBON MONOXIDE IN CABIN MAKING ME DIZZY AND SICK FEELING BECAUSE "CATALYTIC CONVERTER CHANGES CARBON MONOXIDE TO CARBON DIOXIDE, WHICH IS WHY DEALER USES CO2 METER NOT CO METER". WAS INFORMED THAT REGIONAL ENGINEER INSTRUCTED DEALER TO REPEAT TSB 14-0130 EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE THEN TELLING ME THAT THE SMELL IS FROM "MILDEW ON THE A/C EVAPORATOR CORE", WHICH CONTRADICTS THEIR PERFORMING THE TSB TO SEAL THE VEHICLE FROM EXHAUST FUMES A SECOND TIME (PERFORMED PREVIOUSLY WITHOUT EFFECT IN 10/2015). HAVE BEEN TOLD MANY DIFFERENT "REASONS" FOR THE FUMES IN CABIN, NONE OF WHICH MAKE MUCH SENSE. MILDEW DOES NOT SMELL LIKE SULFUR OR EXHAUST FUMES. TO MAKE THINGS WORSE, I WAS TOLD THAT I "DO NOT DRIVE ENOUGH MILES" DURING MY TRIPS TO "DRY OUT THE EVAPORATOR CORE" SO I AM TOLD MY DRIVING HABITS, NOT FORD'S DESIGN FLAWS ALLOWING EXHAUST INTO CABIN, ARE THE REASON FOR THE FUMES. SERVICE MANAGER HAS BEEN DILIGENT AND PROFESSIONAL AND IS A GENUINELY NICE PERSON, THOUGH FORD IS TRYING TO SERVE UP A "RED HERRING" BY TRYING TO DIVERT ATTENTION TO THE A/C SYSTEM RATHER THAN ADMIT TO EXHAUST FUMES IN PASSENGER CABIN. FORD REPLACED THE EVAP CORE WHICH RESULTED IN NEARLY NO A/C UPON BEING TOLD VEHICLE READY FOR PICK-UP ON 10/15/16, SO IT IS STILL IN SERVICE..NOW TO REPAIR WHAT THEY BROKE DURING "FINAL REPAIR ATTEMPT". TO CONSUMER, APPEARS FORD HAS PROPPED OPEN FRESH AIR VENTS REGARDLESS OF "RECIRCULATE" BUTTON LIGHT, RESULTING IN WARM A/C. FORD SHOULD RE-PURCHASE THIS HAZARDOUS VEHICLE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT EXHAUST FUMES EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE FROM THE REAR VENTS, WHICH NEEDED TO BE SEALED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WE HAVE HAD CONTINUAL FAILURES WITH OUR 2015 AND 2016 FORD EXPLORERS WITH THE POLICE PACKAGE. THE BODY CONTROL MODULES, WIRING HARNESSES, RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULES THAT ARE EITHER PREVENTING NEW UNITS BEING PLACED INTO SERVICE OR FAIL ONCE THEY HAVE BEEN PLACED INTO SERVICE. WE CURRENTLY HAVE TWO OF THESE UNITS THAT WE PURCHASED OFF OF OUR STATE CONTRACT IN WASHINGTON STATE THAT ARE STILL AT THE DEALER. WE PURCHASED AND RECEIVED THESE UNITS IN NOVEMBER OF 2015. I HAVE PROVIDED THE VIN NUMBERS TO THESE TWO UNITS THAT ARE EFFECTED ALONG WITH THE REST OF THE VIN NUMBERS FOR ALL 5 UNITS WE HAVE PURCHASED WITHIN THE LAST YEAR AND A HALF. PLEASE LET US KNOW WHAT ELSE YOU WOULD REQUIRE TO POSSIBLY ASSIST US IN OUR CURRENT SITUATION. BESIDES THE VIN NUMBER FIRST ATTACHED TO THIS FORM, HERE ARE THE OTHER FOUR NUMBERS. WHEN PERFORMING A HARD ACCELERATION ENTERING THE INTERSTATE OR QUICKLY MANEUVERING AROUND ANOTHER VEHICLE, THERE IS A STRANGE ODOR THAT COMES THROUGH THE VENTS. SMELLS LIKE EXHAUST. THIS BOTH WHEN THE WINDOWS ARE UP AND THE A/C IS ON OR IF WIDOWS ARE DOWN AND A/C TURNED OFF. THE SMELL LASTS A FEW SECONDS BEFORE GOING AWAY. I'M CONCERNED ABOUT THE LONG TERM EFFECTS OF THIS ON PERSONAL HEALTH. MY 2015 EXPLORER IS CURRENTLY AT FORD BEING CHECKED OUT. I'VE BEEN TOLD THERE IS A TSB OUT ON THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO REPAIR IT. WAITING ON SOME KIND OF POSITIVE OUTCOME AT THIS POINT.
NEW (DEALER DEMO), 2015 EXPLORER XLT WITH ~6000 MILES ON IT. THE VEHICLE CABIN FILLS WITH ACRID, "HAIR/PLASTIC BURNING" SMELLING FUMES WHEN UNDER HEAVY ACCELERATION; MOSTLY AT >4500RPM WHILE TRYING TO PASS OR ENTER TRAFFIC. THE FUMES CAUSE HEADACHE AND NAUSEA AND ACTUALLY LEAVE A LONG LASTING, BURNING/OILY TASTE IN THE MOUTH AFTERWARDS. IT TAKES ALL WINDOWS OPEN FOR MANY MINUTES TO CLEAR MOST OF THE FUMES/SMELL OUT. THE PHYSICAL EFFECTS SEEM TO LAST FOR UP TO 30 MINUTES. THIS APPEARS TO BE A CONDITION THAT HAS EXISTED SINCE THE 2011 MODEL AND IS STILL PRESENT IN THE 2015 MODEL.
I SMELL EXHAUST FUMES IN THE CABIN OF MY VEHICLE. ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE WITH ACCELERATION SUCH AS WHEN PASSING VEHICLES, MERGING ONTO HIGHWAYS, CLIMBING HILLS. FIRST NOTICED THIS A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY VEHICLE IN 2015.
VERY LOUD POPPING SOUND OCCURS WHEN TURNING VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT AND LOOSE STEERING CONTROL FELT MOMENTARILY WHILE CAR IS IN MOTION. MOST NOTICEABLE AT SLOWER SPEEDS. DIAGNOSED AS STEERING GEAR ASSEMBLY HAS TO BE REPLACED. THIS WAS WITHIN 42,000 MILES (JUST AFTER EXPIRATION OF WARRANTY). VEHICLE HAS ELECTRONIC DRIVER ASSIST AND HAS A 3.2 LITER ENGINE. .
EXHAUST FUMES ARE ENTERING THE PASSENGER CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE EXHAUST IS MOST NOTICEABLE DURING ACCELERATION AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I HAVE TAKEN THE EXPLORER TO THE DEALER TWICE WHERE IT IS STILL AT SINCE OCT 5TH, TODAY IS NOV 4TH. THE FORD DEALER HAS PERFORMED A TSB TO CORRECT THE KNOWN ISSUE OF EXHAUST ENTERING THE PASSENGER CABIN. THIS FIX DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM OR LESSEN IT TO ANY DEGREE. USING AN ALTAIR 4X GAS MONITOR INSIDE THE VEHICLE I OBSERVED CARBON MONOXIDE LEVELS UP TO 13PPM WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE.
I OWN A BRAND NEW 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ABOUT A MONTH AGO. THE SECOND DAY WE HAD THE VEHICLE WE NOTICED A STRONG SMELL THAT WOULD FILL THE CABIN OF THE CAR DURING ACCELERATION. WE THOUGHT THE SMELL WAS JUST THE "NEW" BURNING OFF THE ENGINE, FAST FORWARD TO A MONTH LATER AND THE PROBLEM IS JUST AS STRONG AS EVER. I WAS CURIOUS SO I GOOGLED THE ISSUE AND TO MY SHOCK THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF CASES WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS EVEN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT IN PLACE AT THIS TIME ABOUT THIS VERY PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED CONTACTING FORD WITH NO HELP WHATSOEVER. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY AND WELL BEING OF MY FAMILY IN WHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A RELIABLE AND SAFE VEHICLE. CASES OF CARBON MONOXIDE ILLNESS FROM EXHAUST FUMES ARE NOTHING THAT NEEDS TO BE PUSHED ASIDE.
THE EXHAUST OF THE FUMES COMING INTO THE CABIN OCCURS DURING FULL THROTTLE APPLICATIONS, ESPECIALLY WHEN MERGING ONTO HIGHWAYS OR CLIMBING STEEP INCLINES AND SINCE THE START OF THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN CAUSING MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY HEALTH PROBLEMS SUCH AS ASTHMA. WE HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD AT LEAST 3 TIMES FOR WHICH THEY HELD THE VEHICLE 3-4 DAYS FOR INSPECTION, BUT FOUND NO DISCREPANCY, WE WONDER WHY THEY CAN'T SMELL IT AS IT HAPPENS WHEN IT IS BEING DRIVEN ON THE FREEWAY AND DURING INSTANCES MENTIONED ABOVE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, THERE WAS A SMELL OF SULFUR INSIDE THE VEHICLE. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE SULFUR SMELL EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE FROM THE VENTS. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE MECHANIC RESEALED THE CABINS AND CLEANED THE VENTS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,600. ON AUGUST 22, 2015 I STOPPED AT A SHELL STATION NEAR BONHAM, TEXAS. AFTER REFUELING I WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE FUEL NOZZLE FROM MY VEHICLE. I MOVED IT AROUND, PUSHED, AND PULLED ON THE NOZZLE TO NO AVAIL.THE VEHICLE WAS OBVIOUSLY STATIONARY AT THIS TIME. AFTER ABOUT FIFTEEN MINUTES AND WITH THE HELP OF OTHER PEOPLE I WAS UNABLE TO GET THE NOZZLE OUT OF MY VEHICLE. I TOLD THE GAS STATION ATTENDANT WHO WAS ABLE TO PUSH AND PULL THE NOZZLE ENOUGH TO GET IT DISLODGED FROM MY VEHICLE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER I BOUGHT IT FROM AUTO NATION FRISCO, TEXAS. AFTER SMELLING THIS, I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OTHER FORD EXPLORER OWNERS WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT AND THE SMELL WAS ACCOMPANIED WITH CARBON MONXIDE. 9-28-15 DEALERSHIP SEALED REAR UNDERBODY. 5-2-16 DEALERSHIP INSTALLED NEW DOWNTURNED MUFFLER ASSEMBLY. AFTER THIS FIX THE SMELL WENT FROM A FEW SECONDS TO A MINUTE PLUS. CARBON MONOXIDE COMES THROUGH THE A/C VENTS WHEN I HIT 50/55 MPH.
ON ACCELERATION GETTING EXHAUST FUMES IN CABIN ( BAD FUMES ) TALKED TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD ACCELERATE SLOW GREAT WORDS FOR PROBLEM HAVE FOUND THIS IS NOT A NEW PROBLEM WITH THE EXPLORER IS ANYTHING BEING DONE ON THIS ISSUE.
WE OWN A 2015 FORD EXPLORER THAT WE BOUGHT NEW. SINCE WE BOUGHT IT IT HAS BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALERSHIP AND WE HAVE HAD THEM LOOK AT IT MANY TIMES. I FINALLY CONVINCED THEM TO DO A REPAIR ON IT AFTER I TOLD THEM ABOUT A TECH BULLETIN. THEY KEPT IT A FEW DAYS AND DONE SOMETHING TO IT (NOT SURE WHAT) AND TOLD US IT WAS REPAIRED. WE RESUMED DRIVING IT AND SINCE THE REPAIR WE HAVE TOLD THEM WE CAN STILL SMELL THE SAME THING AS BEFORE. THE DEALERSHIP HAS LOOKED AT IT MANY TIMES SINCE THEN AND HAS ALSO DROVE IT AND CONTINUE TO TELL US THEY CAN'T SMELL IT AND NOTHING IS WRONG. NOW MY WIFE AND I CAN SMELL IT EVERYTIME WE CROSS OVER THE MOUNTAINS TO GO TO TOWN AND HAVE TOLD THEM THAT YOU HAVE PUT THIS VEHICLE UNDER A LOAD TO GET IT TO SMELL. THEY STILL CONTINUE TO SAY THEY HAVE DONE EVERYTHING WE HAVE ASKED AND THEY CAN'T SMELL. NOW THAT I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE I'M NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE HEALTH OF MY FAMILY DRIVING AND RIDING IN THIS EXPLORER. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ALL OF THOSE WHO ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE GET HURT OR KILLED. THE DEALERSHIP HAS DOCUMENTS CONCERNING THIS ISSUE ON OUR VEHICLE AND I HAVE DOCUMENTATION ON IT AS WELL. LAW ENFORCEMENT VEHICLE RECEIVING HIGH CARBON MONOXIDE LEVEL READINGS (10+ PARTS PER MILLION) IN PASSENGER CABIN UPON HARD ACCELERATION (FROM COMPLETE STOP TO 100+ MPH) WITH THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM ON WITH THE RECIRCULATION FUNCTION ACTIVATED. 549
SINCE PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN 2015, WE NOTICED WHEN ACCELERATING THAT THERE WAS AN EXHAUST SMELL INSIDE THE CAB WITH THE WINDOWS CLOSED. WE ALSO NOTICED ON LONG TRIPS WE WOULD GET HEADACHES AND FEEL SLEEPY/WEAK. CALLED THE DEALER AND COMPLAINED ABOUT EXHAUST ODOR, AND WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 600-700 DOLLARS TO RESEAL THE CAB AND DO SOME OTHER REPAIRS. I FEEL THIS IS NOT FAIR AND THIS IS A DEFECT THE VEHICLE HAD SINCE NEW.
A FOLLOW UP ON A CO PROBLEM, THAT HAPPENED ON 7/7/15. DEALER TOOK THE EXPLORER IN ON THE CO ISSUE ALONG WITH FORD KNOWING OF IT. GAVE US A RENTAL FOR A WEEK, AND CAME UP WITH NO CO LEVELS AFTER A WEEK. WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO TAKE A RIDE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, EXHAUST WAS PRESENT BUT HE SAID IT WAS A HOT ENGINE SMELL. NO LEVELS WHERE FOUND BUT SYMPTOMS IN MY BODY OF CO WHERE INDICATED WHILE THE SERVICE MANAGER WAS IN THE VEHICLE. LEFT THE VEHICLE FOR THE DAY AND WAS TOLD BY FORD THE SERVICE MANAGER FOUND NOTHING WRONG AND TO COME GET THE VEHICLE. UPON THE RIDE HOME MY CO DETECTOR INDICATED LEVELS AT 534PPM. WITH THE WINDOWS DOWN AND THE SUN ROOF OPEN AT 70MPH. ALONG THE WAY I STOPPED IN THE LOCAL HOSPITAL, WAITED AN HOUR IN A HALF FOR BLOOD WORK THEN WALKED OUT. HAD TO GET BACK TO WORK. ONLY 15 MINUTES BACK HOME THE LEVELS WENT UP TO 871PPM. CALLING THE DEALERSHIP AND FORD IN THE AM TO GET THIS PROBLEM SOLVED ASAP BEFORE SOME DIES. 2015 WITH ONLY 4,500 MILES.
