TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH OVER TRAIN TRACKS, THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A AUTO GLASS SHOP TO HAVE THE REAR WINDOW REPLACED. THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
2010 FORD F150 SUPERCREW POWER REAR SLIDING WINDOW PASS SIDE ONLY, CRACKING UPON TURNING ON REAR DEFROSTER AFTER A FEW MINUTES. TEMPERATURE 15 DEGREES WITHIN A FEW MINUTES OF LEAVING A STORE PARKING LOT AND NOW DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY A FEW MILES I HEARD A LOUD BANG ( MANY OTHERS POSTED SAY IT SOUNDS LIKE A 22 CALIBER SHOT GUN ) I LOOKED AROUND AND SAW THE REAR PASS SLIDING WINDOW SHATTERED BUT STILL INTACT. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I HAD TO USE THE REAR DEFROSTER AS IT WAS SNOWING SLEETING OUTSIDE. I HAVE HAD THIS TRUCK FOR 2 YEARS AND NEVER HAD TO USE IT. NOW WHEN I GET HOME I DECIDE TO GOOGLE SEARCH THIS AND COULDN'T BELIEVE HOW COMMON THIS IS. TURN OUT THERE IS A PROBLEM AND FORD WILL NOT MAKE IT RIGHT UNLESS YOU ARE VERY LUCKY AND PERSISTENT. THE HEATING ELEMENT GETS SO HOT THAT IT SHATTERS THE GLASS. THEY CLAIM GLASS IS NOT COVERED. ITS NOT THE GLASS, ITS THE HEATING ELEMENT. I CALLED 3 LOCAL DEALERS TODAY AND 2 OF THE THREE SAID THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS BUT FORD WONT OFFER COMPENSATION. I WAS TOLD TO CALL THE INSURANCE AND FILE A CLAIM. I ALSO CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE CENTER AND TOLD THEM WHAT I HAD LEARNED AND IT WAS ALL OVER THE FORD FORUMS AND THE INTERNET. SAME SCENARIO FOR ALL OF US. I AM JUST GLAD THAT I DIDN'T HAVE A CHILD IN THE REAR PASS SEAT AND HAD THIS HAPPEN OR HAD THE GLASS SHATTER ALL OVER THE CHILD. SO NOW I HAVE TO PAY A $500.00 DEDUCTIBLE AND FILE A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE CARRIER. WORSE YET I WAS TOLD TODAY THAT NO WINDOWS WERE AVAILABLE FOR 10 DAYS. HMM MAKES YOU WONDER WHY? *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK ON 1/15/14, I DECIDED TO USE MY REAR WINDOW DEFROST DUE TO THE TEMPERATURE (42 DEGREES) AND THE BUILD UP OF CONDENSATION. I TURNED IT ON FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES UNTIL THE GLASS WAS CLEAR. IT TOOK ME APPROXIMATELY 30 MINUTES TO DRIVE HOME WHERE I PARKED MY TRUCK INSIDE MY GARAGE. I LEFT ABOUT 1 HOUR LATER AND WHILE LOOKING IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR I NOTICED THE SLIDING WINDOW SHATTERED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. AFTER RETURNING HOME I CONTACTED SAFELITE AND SCHEDULED TO HAVE IT REPLACED THROUGH MY INSURANCE COMPANY. WHEN THE REPAIRMAN CAME OUT HE REALIZED HE HAD THE WRONG REPLACEMENT AND WAS GOING TO ORDER IT THROUGH FORD. HE ALSO ADVISED ME THE WINDOW DAMAGE STARTED AT THE CONNECTION POINT OF THE DEFROST. AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION ON-LINE I REALIZED I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. THERE ARE MANY F-150 OWNERS THAT HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO THEM WITH SOME BEING THE GLASS ACTUALLY EXPLODED AND SOME WITH ARCING OR FIRE. MOST OF THE ISSUES WERE ON 2010 F-150'S WITH SOME NEWER MODELS AS WELL AND ALL WERE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE SLIDER WINDOW. MOST OF THE CASES I READ ABOUT ON-LINE WERE PAID OUT BY THE VEHICLE OWNERS AND INSURANCE AGENCIES. THERE WERE SOME CASES WERE FORD PAID THE BILL. I FEEL THIS SHOULD DEFINITELY BE LOOKED INTO ON THE SAFETY ASPECT ALONE AND FORD SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE. *TR
REAR GLASS SHATTERING WHEN REAR DEFROSTER IS TURNED ON IN COLD WEATHER. MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE REAR WINDOW SHATTERING (DRIVER SIDE OF 3 SEGMENT WINDOW) WHEN THE REAR DEFROSTER WAS TURNED ON DURING COLD WEATHER (APPROXIMATELY 10 DEG F AMBIENT TEMP). THE VEHICLE HAD COLD SOAKED (NO MOVEMENT OR KEY POWER FOR 10 HOURS IN THE COLD WEATHER PRIOR TO THE WINDOW SHATTERING WHEN THE DEFROSTER WAS TURNED ON. THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED (NO SNOW OR ICE ON VEHICLE) AND THE REAR DEFROSTER ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED INTO DRIVE AND MOVED APPROXIMATELY 500 FEET. WHEN STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN A LOUD POPPING SOUND, SIMILAR TO A GUN SHOT STARTLED ME. I LOOKED AROUND AND NOTICED THE GLASS WAS SHATTERED. THE GLASS RETAINED IN THE ORIGINAL FRAME. THE VEHICLE HAD 30,000 MILES. NO OTHER VEHICLE OR PERSON WAS ANYWHERE IN SIGHT - MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS POSSIBLY THIS WAS DUE TO SOMEONE THROWING SOMETHING AT MY VEHICLE.
I STARTED MY TRUCK UP AND ACTIVATED THE REAR DEFROSTER . IT WAS EXTREMELY COLD ABOUT 11 DEGREES IN NJ APPROX. 5 MINUTES LATER I DETECTED WHAT APPEARED TO BE A CRACKLING NOISES WHICH RESULTED IN THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW POPPING AND SHATTERING. I HAVE RECENTLY CONTACTED FORD AND ADVISED THEM. I WAS TOLD MY VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY CANT HELP ME OUT WITH THIS ISSUE. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE GLASS FOR THAT YEAR DUE TO THERE BEING THOUSANDS OF ISSUES RELATED TO THE SAME ISSUES ON THESE VEHICLE. AS A LONG TIME FORD CUSTOMER I FEEL THIS IS ENOUGH OF AN ISSUE WHICH WILL CAUSE MY TO SWITCH MY CHOICE IN FUTURE TRUCKS. *TR
DRIVING ON A 4 LANE HIGHWAY, SMOOTH WITH SOME NOW. TURNED REAR WINDOW DEFROST ON. WITHIN 5-10 MINUTES THERE WAS A LOUD BAND(SOUNDED LIKE A SHOTGUN BLAST). THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW SHATTERED INTO A THOUSANDS PIECES. THE GLASS STARTED TO FALL OUT IN PIECES A FEW DAYS LATER. MY GRANDSON, SITTING DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE WINDOW, LOST HIS HEARING FOR ABOUT 10-15 MINUTES. HE ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT HIS EAR HURTING
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILED AND BECAME STUCK TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED FORCEFULLY AND IMMEDIATELY DECELERATED. THE MECHANIC AND CHECK ENGINE INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER CLEANED THE THROTTLE BODY; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED, WHICH LOCATED A FAILURE CODE AT THE THROTTLE BODY POSITION SENSOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PUTTING THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ABNORMALLY AT AN EXCESSIVE SPEED. THE CONTACT THEN SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY AND CRASHED INTO TWO VEHICLES. TWO PASSENGERS IN THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE NECK, SHOULDER AND BACK. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,300.
APPROX 8:30 AM TEMP NEAR 20 DEGREES F. LIGHT SNOW FALLING . I TURNED MY HEATED REAR WINDOW AND MIRRORS ON . AFTER 5 MINUTES OF HEATING I SMELLED BURNING ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS AND THEN A LOUD "POP" NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE CAB. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE THREE PIECE SLIDER WAS COMPLETELY SHATTERED BUT IN PLACE. I CALLED MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME THAT GLASS BREAKAGE WASN'T COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTIES ESPECIALLY AT ALMOST 90,000 MILES. I DID PURCHASE THE PLATINUM EXTENDED WARRANTY THROUGH FORD WHEN NEW . AFTER PAYING FOR THE ENTIRE WINDOW AND INSTALL MYSELF... THE LOCAL GLASS COMPANY INSTALLER STATED THAT THIS WAS SOMEWHAT COMMON WITH THESE TRUCKS AND THEY HAVE REPLACED A FEW. I NOW DON'T USE THE HEATED WINDOWS/MIRRORS IN FEAR OF AN EXPENSIVE REPAIR BILL . *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT DURING A RAINSTORM, WATER PENETRATED THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT WATER WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE VIA THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,618. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
STARTED THE CAR IN THE MORNING. TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROSTER. BEGAN TO SHOVEL THE DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A LOUD POP FROM THE TRUCK. DIDN'T NOTICE ANYTHING UNTIL I GOT IN TO BACK UP AND SAW THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW GAD SHATTERED. FORD DEALER WAS VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE "WINDOW" PROBLEM, AS THEY DESCRIBED IT. SAID THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PAST 50,000 MILES THAT IT WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I RARELY USE THE REAR DEFROSTER. THE DEALER SAID I SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE LOCAL GLASS SPECIALIST TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THEY NEVER MENTIONED THAT IT MAY BE AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT A KNOWN REPETITIVE PROBLEM SHOULD BE PAID FOR BY FORD. IF IT IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, I MAY BE REPLACING MY WINDOW MORE THAN ONCE. *TR
EARLY MORNING LEFT IT RUNNING WITH HEATER AND FRONT DEFROSTER ON. TEN MINUTES LATER I ENTERED THE VEH & NOTICED THAT I HAD NOT ACTIVATED THE BACK DEFOGGERS. (I RARELY USE THE BACK WINDOW DEFOGGER SINCE I GENERALLY PARK INDOORS AND TO BE HONEST I WAS NOT ENTIRELY SURE WHERE THE BUTTON WAS LOCATED). I REMAINED IN THE VEHICLE WITH THE DOORS CLOSED AND THE VEHICLE REMAINED IN PARK (NOT IN GEAR). I A FEW MOMENTS PASSED WHEN I HEARD A LOUD SOUND NOT UNLIKE THE NOISE MADE BY A 22 CALIBER RIFLE SHOT. MY TRUCK IS A F150 LARIAT W/CREW CAB W/ 3 PIECE WINDOW WHERE THE CENTER SECTION OPENS. ALL THREE WINDOW SECTIONS HAVE DEFOGGER WIRES EMBEDDED WITHIN THE GLASS. IT WAS DIFFICULT TO SEE WHAT HAD HAPPEN DUE TO THE EARLY HOUR AND FOGGED WINDOWS BUT THE FAR RIGHT (PASSENGER SIDE) BACK GLASS PANEL HAD LITERALLY SHATTERED AS TEMPERED GLASS DOES. IT MAINTAINED ITS SURFACE AND DID NOT FALL AWAY THANKS TO THE FACTORY TINT-COATING. I'M TOLD BY THE DEALER THIS WILL COST OVER $900 TO FIX. I'VE TALKED TO SEVERAL GLASS COMPANIES. THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM THAT FORD SEEMS TO BE UNCONCERNED ABOUT. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND FORD CARE BUT ANY GOOD WILL SEEMS TO BE IN SHORT SUPPLY AND I GET THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY ARE RESISTING TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM TO AVOID THE GREAT RESPONSIBILITY OF FIXING THIS DESIGN DEFECT IN MILLIONS OF TRUCKS. MY LAST FORD TRUCK HAD THE SMOKING/BURNING CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT WAS A RANDOM OCCURRENCE UNTIL I HEARD ON THE NEWS ABOUT CARS BURNING UP DUE TO BAD CRUISE CONTROL UNITS. EVEN THEN, THE RECALL WAS YEARS IN COMING AND I ENDED UP FIXING THAT ONE TOO, ALSO AT MY OWN EXPENSE. IS THERE ANY FORM OF COMPENSATION OR ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE HERE THAT I MAY HAVE MISSED? MY DEALER HAS OFFERED NO HELP AND FORD CARE IS WORTHLESS. I'D HATE TO SAY IT BUT IF I END UP PAYING FOR THIS OUT OF POCKET, MY NEXT TRUCK WILL NOT BE A FORD. *TR
THE RIGHT REAR WINDOW (PASSENGER SIDE) SHATTERED FOR THE SECOND TIME, WHEN THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER WAS BEING USED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACTED STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH WITH THE AIR CONDITIONER ON ACTIVATED, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE VENT BEGAN DISPERSING HEAT. THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED FOR THE RELATED FAILURE EIGHT MONTHS PRIOR BUT THE REPAIRS WERE UNKNOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
ON A 40 DEGREE MORNING, I TURNED THE REAR DEFROSTER ON TO CLEAR WINDOWS AND MIRRORS. AS I WAS DRIVING MY SON TO DAYCARE I HEARD A LARGE POP THEN SMELLED BURNING RUBBER. LOOKED AND SEEN THE RIGHT REAR GLASS SHATTERED AND WAS IT SHORTED OUT ON THE HEATING ELEMENT. TOOK THE TRUCK TO FORD AND SINCE IT IS OFF WARRANTY THEY TOLD ME THERE S NOTHING THEY CAN DO BESIDES CHARGING ME $1200 FOR REPLACEMENT, VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH FORD. IF I WANTED ELECTRICAL TROUBLES I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT A 1990'S DODGE! THANKS FOR NOTHING. *TR
TRUCK WAS OUTSIDE AT 11 DEGREES F. STARTED VEHICLE AND TURNED ON THE REAR DEFROST. WITHIN 2 TO 3 MINUTES THE LEFT PANEL(DRIVERS SIDE) OF THE 3 PIECE SLIDING REAR WINDOW SHATTERED, WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT. *TR
EXTERNAL TEMPERATURE WAS ~22DEGREES F, HAD REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER AND HEATED DRIVER SEAT TURNED ON. FRONT DEFROSTER WAS ON AND SET TO HIGHEST TEMPERATURE. WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, MY SON AND I NOTICED A BURNING SMELL. HE WAS SEATED IN A BOOSTER, REAR SEAT, PASSENGER SIDE. HE ADVISED THAT HE COULD HEAR SOMETHING BEHIND HIM MAKING NOISE. I LOOKED BACK AND OBSERVED SMOKE COMING FROM BEHIND THE REAR PASSENGER HEADREST, WHERE MY SON WAS SEATED. I LOOKED FORWARD TO FIND A SPOT TO PULL OVER AND THEN HEARD A LOUD BANG. LOOKING BACK I SAW THE REAR WINDOW WAS SHATTERED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT IS A SLIDING REAR WINDOW WITH THREE SECTIONS, ONLY THE PASSENGER SECTION,DIRECTLY BEHIND MY SON WAS SHATTERED. THE GLASS REMAINED IN PLACE, BUT SHATTERED. I QUICKLY PULLED OVER, SHUT OFF THE TRUCK AND REMOVED MY SON. FROM THE OUTSIDE I CAN SEE THE PLASTIC LOWER CORNER MELTED WHERE THE PASSENGER GLASS MEETS THE CENTER GLASS SECTION. THE RUBBER SEAL/MOLDING WAS SMOKING AND HAD MELTED AND DRIPPED DOWN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK CAB, BETWEEN THE CAB AND THE TRUCK BED/BOX. INSIDE THERE IS A STRONG ODOR OF BURNT RUBBER OR PLASTIC. *TR
I HAD TURNED ON MY REAR WINDOW DEFROSTER AND AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES I HEARD A LOUD BANG. THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE REAR POWER SLIDING WINDOW HAD SHATTERED. *TR
THE ORIGINAL CENTER HIGH-MOUNT BRAKE LIGHT ON THE CAB OF MY TRUCK HAS A FAULTY GASKET AND DOES NOT FORM A PROPER SEAL AGAINST WATER. WATER HAS LEAKED INTO THE CAB OF THE TRUCK ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE HEADLINER OF THE VEHICLE, AND UNKNOWN DAMAGE/RUST TO THE FLOOR OF THE VEHICLE DUE TO WATER RUNNING DOWN THE INTERIOR TRIM PANELS AND UNDERNEATH THE CARPETING. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIPS SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND WAS TOLD THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, AND THAT THE GASKET AND LAMP HOUSING ON NEWER MODELS OF TRUCKS WAS REDESIGNED TO FORM A BETTER SEAL AGAINST WATER. I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD EITHER BUY A NEW LAMP ASSEMBLY AT THE COST OF APPROX. $115, OR COULD USE SILICONE SEALANT AROUND THE LIGHT. THE COST OF A REPLACEMENT HEADLINER WAS NOT ADDRESSED, HOWEVER A NEW HEADLINER FOR MY VEHICLE WILL COST APPROX. $895 (PLUS LABOR) BRINGING A TOTAL IN PARTS ALONE TO APPROX. $1010.00. THIS IS ALL DUE TO A FAULTY DESIGNED GASKET THAT WAS ACKNOWLEDGED AND REDESIGNED. THERE SHOULD BE A VOLUNTARY RECALL ISSUED BY FORD MOTOR CO. AS A QUALITY ISSUE, NOT NECESSARILY A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE READ SEVERAL OTHER REPORTS OF THIS SAME OCCURRENCE IN YOUR "COMPLAINTS" SECTION ON BOTH 2010 & 2009 MODEL F-150 TRUCKS. IN SOME INSTANCES, THE DEALERSHIPS TOOK RESPONSIBILITY AND REPLACED THE FAULTY PARTS. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH FORD MOTOR CO. AND AM AWAITING A RESPONSE, HOWEVER, THERE ARE POSSIBLY SEVERAL HUNDRED, IF NOT SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF OTHER TRUCK OWNERS FACING THE SAME ISSUE. FORD MOTOR CO. SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR FAULTY PRODUCT, OR THIS COULD RESULT IN A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE METAL TRACK ASSEMBLY AND CABLE FAILED DUE TO DEFECTIVE MATERIAL. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S SEAT COULD NOT BE ADJUSTED IN A SAFE DRIVING POSITION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE METAL TRACK ASSEMBLY AND CABLE WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,317 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
WAS DRIVING INTO DRIVEWAY AT APPROX. 5 MPH AND HEARD LOAD POP. WHEN GOT INTO GARAGE I GOT OUT AND NOTICED PASSENGER SIDE BACK WINDOW WAS SHATTERED. WHEN I WAS DRIVING HOME I HAD TURNED ON THE REAR WINDOW DEFROSTERS ABOUT 4 MINUTES BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. LOOKING INTO THIS, IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH FORDS AND THEY DON'T WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE ANY PROBLEMS. *TR
THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE 3 PIECE REAR WINDOW WITH DEFROSTER SHATTERED AFTER I TURNED IT ON. I HAD DRIVEN MAYBE 1 1/2 BLOCKS AFTER TURNING IT ON. I DON'T FEEL SAFE TURNING IT ON ANYMORE. THE CONTACT DETACHED THE DEFECTIVE FUSE FOR THE DEFROSTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
THIS A DOUBLE ENTRY COMPLAINT: I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK LATE AT NIGHT WHEN I HEARD A BANG OFF THE REAR WINDOW OF MY F-150. THE ONLY THING HOLDING IT TOGETHER WAS THE HEATER ELEMENT AND THE PRIVACY GLASS FILM (BOTH FACTORY INSTALLED). I FILED THE USUAL INSURANCE CLAIM AND HAD IT REPAIRED. THIS PAST SATURDAY (15 FEB 2014) I WALKED OUT TO MY TRUCK TO HEAD TO WORK, GOT IN AND SAW THAT THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE REAR WINDOW WAS NOW SHATTERED. IT WAS FINE WHEN I PARKED IT AFTER WORK. I PURCHASE A NEW 2010 FORD F-150XLT IN APRIL, 2010. THE TRUCK CAME WITH GOODYEAR WRANGLER SRA TIRES. TWO OF THE TIRES LOST A GREAT DEAL OF TREAD BETWEEN 16500 AND 18000 MILES, NECESSITATING ALL FOUR TIRES BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED MY FORD DEALER AND GOODYEAR AND THE TIRES HAVE BEEN REPLACED. I WAS TOLD THE GOODYEAR WRANGLER SRA TIRES ARE BACKORDERED AND HAD TO PURCHASE GOODYEAR WRANGLER ADVENTURE ALL SEASON TIRES. THE TECHNICIANS AT THE FORD DEALERSHIP ADVISED ME THEY HAVE SEEN EXCESSIVE WEAR ON MANY OTHER OF THE WRANGLER SRA TIRES. I RECEIVED A PRORATED ALLOWANCE FOR THE NEW TIRES; BUT DO TIRES ONLY LAST 18000 MILES NOW. MY PREVIOUS F-150 TIRES HAD OVER 60000 MILES ON THEM AND HAD MORE TREAD THAN MY 2010 F-150. THE WINDOW REPLACEMENT COMPANY IN TOWN ALSO STATED THEY HAD REPLACED 3 OR 4 WINDOWS THAT HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN. THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO DRIVE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP IF POSSIBLE AND DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO A FAULTY COMPUTER (MECHATRONIC) THAT CONTROLS THE TRANSMISSION. THEY DID NOT HAVE THE CONTROLLER IN STOCK AND RECOMMENDED THAT I HAVE THE UNIT REPLACED IN MY HOME TOWN. WE FINALLY HIT AN INCLINE FOR A HILL AND WE SLAMMED IT INTO NEUTRAL AGAIN,PULLED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE WHEN WE GOT TO THE TOP. THINK MY BRAKES COMPLETELY BURNED OUT AND SMOKE WAS COMING FROM MY ENGINE. NUMEROUS PEOPLE THAT WE HAD TERRIFIED PULLED OVER WITH US ONCE WE GOT THE RUNAWAY TRUCK STOPPED. CALLED TOW TRUCK AND HAD TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND WILL SEE WHAT THEY SAY TOMORROW. I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED HAD SOMEONE PULLED ONTO THE ROAD IN FRONT OF US OR A DEER STEPPED OUT. I PURCHASED MY FORD F-150 NEW IN AUGUST 2010. I NOTICED IN SEPTEMBER 2013, MY FUEL FILLER DOOR WAS NOT CLOSING, AND AFTER FURTHER INSPECTION I NOTICED AN INNER MECHANISM, THAT ALLOWS THE DOOR TO REMAIN CLOSED, WAS BROKEN AND NO LONGER KEPT THE DOOR CLOSED. THIS PLASTIC DOOR COSTS APPROXIMATELY $75.00 TO REPLACE, SIGNIFICANTLY MORE IF THE DEALER INSTALLS IT. THE FRUSTRATING THING IS MY SON-IN-LAW, AS WELL AS MY BROTHER BOTH OWN LATE MODEL FORD F-150'S, AND BOTH HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. FORD (THROUGH THEIR DEALERSHIPS) HASN'T FELT THE NEED TO MAKE GOOD ON AN OBVIOUS WORKMANSHIP ISSUE, SO THE CONSUMER IS LEFT TO REPLACE THIS DOOR EVERY 3 YEARS OR SO. I SHOULD ALSO NOTE THAT HAVING THE DOOR COMPLETELY SECURE AND CLOSED IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP WATER AND OTHER DEBRIS OUT OF THE FUEL TANK, AS THE FUEL TANK ON THE LATE MODEL F-150'S DOES NOT HAVE A FUEL CAP. WE HAVEN'T HEARD OF ANY RECALLS, OR PLANS FOR ONE, BUT HOPEFULLY YOU'VE HEARD ENOUGH COMPLAINTS THAT SOMETHING CAN BE DONE. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A DIAGNOSTIC PERFORMED. THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING THE DIAGNOSIS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO RESPONSE. UPDATED 10-24-13 *BF THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM AFTER MUCH CHECKING AND TESTING. THE MAF SENSOR WAS BAD. THERE WAS NO WARNING, NO CODE THROWN, AND NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THERE WAS COMPLETE AND INSTANT POWER FAILURE. UPDATED 10/29/13

CORROSION ALONG FRONT OF HOOD NEXT TO GRILL. BUBBLING AND PAINT DELAMINATION. ALUMINUM HOOD CORROSION.
VEHICLE STALLED AS IF OUT OF FUEL, DESPITE HAVING BEEN RECENTLY FILLED WITH GAS. FUEL MONITORING SYSTEM (TANK LEVEL GAGE AND RANGE COMPUTER) INDICATED THAT VEHICLE WAS USING FUEL AT MUCH HIGHER RATE THAN NORMAL. FOR EXAMPLE, NORMAL RANGE OF THIS TRUCK WHEN 36 GALLON TANK IS FULL IS APPROXIMATELY 570 MILES. AFTER 250 MILES, GAUGE WAS SHOWING TANK OUT OF FUEL AND RANGE COMPUTER WAS INSTRUCTING ME TO REFUEL. REFILLING ONLY REQUIRED 15 GALLONS, INDICATING REDUCED TANK STORAGE CAPACITY. AFTER PERFORMING RESEARCH VIA INTERNET, SUSPECTED BENT FUEL PUMP MOUNT DUE TO FAILED TANK PURGE VALVE. BROUGHT VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR SERVICE WHO FOUND STORED P-1450 CODE WHICH INDICATED A PRIOR FAILURE OF THE FUEL VENT PURGE VALVE. DEALER DROPPED THE TANK, REMOVED THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY AND VERIFIED THAT THE MOUNTING SYSTEM FOR THE PUMP ASSEMBLY HAD BEEN SEVERELY BENT WHEN TANK COLLAPSED UNDER ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE. NEGATIVE GAGE PRESSURE INSIDE OF TANK CAUSED PLASTIC FUEL TANK TO COLLAPSE, SEVERELY BENDING FUEL PUMP MOUNTING HARDWARE WHICH IS CONSTRUCTED OF TWO 3/16" DIAMETER STEEL RODS. APPARENTLY THE PURGE VALVE FAILED AND EITHER THERE IS NO PRESSURE RELIEF SYSTEM, OR IT FAILED. DEALER REPLACED PUMP AND PURGE SOLENOID VALVE AT OWNER COST OF $950+. DEALER INDICATED THAT THERE WAS NO LIABILITY FROM EITHER DEALER OR MANUFACTURER. MY CONCERNS IS SIMPLE....HOW CAN THE DESIGN OF THE FUEL SYSTEM ALLOW THE TANK TO COLLAPSE AT ALL? MY CASE RESULTED IN PUMP HARDWARE DAMAGE, BUT IT SEEM VERY PLAUSIBLE THAT FUEL TANK DAMAGE OR FAILURE IS VERY POSSIBLE, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO SPILLED FUEL AND FIRE. *JB
