TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE VIBRATED AS THE CONTACT PASSED ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS ENGAGED WITH FORCE HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO INCREASE SPEED. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOUR TIMES AND ON ONE OCCASION, THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE CONTINUED AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE SPARK PLUG COILS WERE ALSO BEING REPLACED BY THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
ENGINE MISS FIRE. THE ENGINE WHEN TRYING TO PASS MISS FIRES AND ACTUALLY SLOWS DOWN. WHEN I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND IT WAS NOT MISS FIRING. IT CONTINUED TO DO THIS AND I REPEATEDLY TOOK IT BACK FOR SERVICE WITH THE SAME RESULT. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH THERE WERE MANY ESB'S ON THIS SUBJECT WITH THE TURBO COOLING SYSTEM RETURNING WATER BACK TO THE FIRING CHAMBERS BURNING OUT THE SPARK PLUGS, COIL PACKS, AND SENDING RAW FUEL TO THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER BURNING IT OUT. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THESE ISSUES EVEN THOUGH THE ESB'S WERE AVAILABLE TO THE FORD DEALER OF THE ISSUES NOW THAT THE WARRANTY IS OVER I AM EXPECTED TO REPAIR THESE ISSUES. THIS IS FRAUD!!! *TR
DURING RAIN STORM OR HIGH HUMIDITY DRIVING CONDITIONS, WHILE AT A STEADY SPEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, I APPLY THE GAS PEDAL TO PASS OR MERGE, MY TRUCK STUTTERS AND LOSS OF ENGINE POWER OCCURS. WHEN THIS HAPPENED IT CAUSED TRUCK TO SLOW DOWN TO UNSAFE SPEEDS RAPIDLY WHILE ON HIGHWAY, CAUSING ME TO STEER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID A CRASH. THE TRUCK IS STILL ON WHEN THIS HAPPENS BUT ACCELERATOR PEDDLE IS USELESS UNTIL VEHICLE IS STOPPED, AFTER A FEW MOMENTS IT WILL WORK AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES AND ON MULTIPLE DATES. ONE PARTICULAR TRIP FROM PENNSYLVANIA TO FLORIDA AND BACK, THIS ABOVE CONDITION HAPPENED NO LESS THAN 15 TIMES. HAD MY TRUCK IN FOR MULTIPLE SERVICES AND NOTHING, BUT A CODE FOR MISFIRE I BELIEVE THE TECH SAID. HAD ALL TSB'S DONE AS OF AUGUST 2013. MY TRUCK IS AVERAGING VERY BAD GAS MILEAGE BETWEEN 8.5 MPG TO 12MPG. MY TRUCK ALSO STUTTERS WHILE IN REVERSE WHILE BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY ON COLD DAYS. *TR
2011 F-150 3.5L ECOBOOST LOSS OF POWER WHEN ACCELERATING FROM 50-60 MPH TO PASS A VEHICLE. VEHICLE BOGS DOWN AND I WAS NEARLY REAR ENDED TWICE IN ONE WEEKEND. MANY ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM, I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK IN FOR SERVICE AND FORD CANNOT FIND A FIX. THIS IS EITHER A FUELING ISSUE OR A CONDENSATION ISSUE IN THE TURBO SYSTEM, THIS PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS IN HIGH HUMIDITY OR RAINY WEATHER AND USUALLY HAS A MISFIRE FEELING TO IT. FORD IS NOT PUSHING THE ISSUE AND THERE ARE GOING TO BE ACCIDENTS BEFORE THEY DO ANYTHING. PERSONALLY I WOULD NOT LIKE TO BE KILLED IN MY NEW TRUCK. THE ENGINE LIGHT HAS CAME ON AND THREW CODES P0300, P0304, P0305, PO306, WHICH ARE ALL MISFIRES, BUT WHEN THE TRUCK IS SHUT OFF AND TURNED BACK ON NO CODES ARE STORED. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTED HARD AND THE VEHICLE JERKED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN MADE ADJUSTMENTS TO THE TRANSMISSION SENSOR, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. IN ADDITION, WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHOOK AND VIBRATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE CYLINDER COIL FAILED AND THE CYLINDER BATTERY PACK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. EVENTUALLY FIVE OF THE SIX CYLINDER BATTERY PACKS FAILED AND WERE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. UPDATED 08/04/16*LJ
POOR GAS MILEAGE. WINDOW STICKER SAYS 23 MPG HIGHWAY, BEST I EVER GOT IS 16 MPG,WITH CRUISE SET AT 65 MPH ON FLAT LEVEL HIGHWAY. HAD AT DEALER, 4 TIMES, THEY UPDATED COMPUTER, CHANGED TURBO INTERCOOLER AND THEY STILL CANT IMPROVE MY FUEL ECONOMY. AROUND TOWN I GET 12 MPG. BAD TURBO LAG WHEN PULLING OUT LOW POWER, DEALER SAID ITS HOW TURBOS WORK. DOORS RATTLE, SPEAKERS CRACKLE, REAR END SPRINGS MAKE A CREAKING SOUND. 4 WHEEL DRIVE MAKES A LOUD GROWLING, SOUNDS LIKE GEARS ARE NOT MESHED RIGHT. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND A NEW F-150 TO ANY ONE. NOTHING BUT TRIPS TO THE DEALER AND LET DOWNS. *TR
I HAVE A 2011 FORD F-150 4X4 ECOBOOST AND HAVE HAD ONE STEERING RACK REPLACED ALREADY. IT WAS REPLACED DUE TO POPPING IN THE STEERING AS WELL AS BUMP STEER AND WANDERING. THE INITIAL REPLACEMENT WAS 6-1-12 AND AS OF THIS POST (1-26-13) AND ROUGHLY 12K MORE MILES, IT IS STARTING TO HAVE THE SAME CONCERNS THAT REQUIRED THE INITIAL REPLACEMENT. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT SUSPENSION IN GENERAL SEEMS LOOSE AND THE LEFT SIDE SQUEAKS OVER BUMPS AND SEEMS WEAKER IN THE SPRING THAN THE PASSENGER SIDE. *TR
FORD F 150 2011 STEERING ISSUE. 2011 IS THE FIRST MODEL YEAR FOR ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON THE F 150. WHEN DRIVING STRAIGHT, THERE IS LOOSENESS IN THE STEERING. I AM AWARE THAT ELECTRIC POWER STEERING IS EASIER TO TURN. THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. IT FEELS LIKE LOOSENESS IN THE STEERING SHAFT, AS A LOOSE JOINT. WHEN I WENT TO AN F 150 ONLINE FORUM AND TYPED IN MY PROBLEM, I FOUND OTHERS WHO WERE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THE STEERING. IT SEEMS WORSE WITH HEAT. I HAVE BEEN FEELING IT WHEN I WOULD HIT SMALL BUMPS IN A ROW. YESTERDAY, I FELT IT ON ALL SURFACES. IT FELT LIKE THE STEERING SHAFT WAS GOING TO COME APART. I HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY PUT IT UP ON THE LIFT AND CAN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. THE STEERING SYSTEM ITSELF NEEDS TO BE TAKEN APART. *TR
VEHICLE ACTS AS IF IT WANTS TO STALL DURING RAINY CONDITIONS UPON HIGH ACCELERATION, ONLY DURING WET CONDITIONS DOES THE ECOBOOST NOT ACCELERATE WHEN NEEDED. HAS CAUSED 3 SERIOUS SITUATIONS WHERE POWER WAS NEEDED AND EXPECTED BUT TRUCK SPUTTERED AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THIS HAS BEEN DANGEROUS AND DEALER HAS NO FIX. I AM UNHAPPY WITH THIS ENGINE. THERE ARE NO LIGHTS THAT COME ON TO WARN YOU OF THE CONDITION, AND YOU CANNOT TELL THERE IS A PROBLEM WHEN CRUISING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, ONLY WHEN YOU GO TO PASS OR NEED POWER. *TR
FEELS LIKE A LOOSE JOINT IN THE STEERING SHAFT. SOME PEOPLE REFER TO IT AS POPPING. IT FEELS LIKE A LOOSE BALL JOINT WOULD FEEL. AS YOUR DRIVING, THE FRONT END FEELS LOOSE, AND YOU CAN FEEL "THE ROAD" IN THE WHEEL. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER, AND THEY TOLD ME THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I'VE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE DRIVE THE TRUCK AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING, SOMETHING FEELS LOOSE IN THE FRONT END. *TR
I HAVE HAD THE STALL AND/OR SHUDDER PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES. BY FAR THE WORST IS THE DATE AND ITEMS LISTED IN THE INCIDENT INFORMATION. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE ON A TWO LANE HIGHWAY, AFTER DRIVING IN A STEADY DOWNPOUR FOR AT LEAST AN HOUR, MY ECOBOOST F150 FELL FLAT ON ITS FACE. NO ACCELERATION AT ALL. IT JUST STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I LET OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND TRIED AGAIN WITH NO REACTION FROM THE MOTOR. I THEN FEATHERED THE THROTTLE AND WAS ABLE TO GET AROUND THE OTHER VEHICLE. THE TRUCK WOULD RUN AS LONG AS I DIDN'T TRY TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY. LUCKILY THERE WERE NO ONCOMING VEHICLES IN THE OTHER LANE. WITH DRYER WEATHER THE PROBLEM DISAPPEARED. SINCE THAT TIME I HAVE HAD IT SHUDDER A FEW TIMES WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE. MOSTLY IN DAMP OR HUMID CONDITIONS. *TR
THE TRUCK HAS A HESITATION AT BETWEEN 50 AND 60 MPH WHEN GOING UPHILL IN 6TH GEAR. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE TRUCK TRIES TO SHIFT BUT DOES NOT. ADDITIONALLY AT LEAST TWO SEPARATE TIMES THE TRUCK HAS LOST POWER WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE. MOST RECENTLY ON 5/29/2013 A VEHICLE PULLED ONTO THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, I PULLED AROUND THE VEHICLE AND ACCELERATED TO MAKE IT PAST THE OTHER CAR AND AVOID ON COMING TRAFFIC. THE TRUCK LOST POWER AND SEEMED TO DOWN SHIFT. I LET OFF THE GAS AND TRIED TO PRESS IT AGAIN WITH NO RESPONSE. AT THIS POINT I WAS BEYOND THE OTHER VEHICLE AND WAS ABLE TO GET BACK INTO THE LANE AND AVOID ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE TRUCK WAS STILL LOSING POWER SO I ATTEMPTED TO PRESS THE GAS AGAIN AND THE VEHICLE SHUTTERED MULTIPLE TIMES. I LET OFF THE GAS AGAIN AND WAITED A FEW SECONDS BEFORE ACCELERATING AND WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL DRIVING. THE WEATHER WAS RAINING AN HUMID AT THE TIME OF THE MOST RECENT PROBLEM. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO VARNEY FORD IN NEWPORT MAINE AT LEAST TWICE FOR SERVICE OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY HAVE ATTEMPTED MULTIPLE FIXES BUT AFTER THE MOST RECENT ATTEMPT IN SEPTEMBER 2012 I WAS ADVISED THAT THE PERFORMANCE MAY JUST BE "A CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE" AND THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ELSE TO HELP. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE DEALER AGAIN BECAUSE THEY APPEAR TO BE UNABLE TO HELP. *TR
FUEL FILLER NO LONGER CLOSES. WILL NOT KEEP DUST WATER AND DEBRIS OUT. BROKEN HINGE. WAS TOLD AT DEALERSHIP IT IS COMMON ON THE CAPLESS FUEL FILLER MODELS. *TR
MY WIFE WENT TO GET INTO THE TRUCK AND HER FOOT SLIPPED OFF THE RUNNING BOARD CAUSING HER TO FALL. SHE HAD TO BE UNDER A DOCTORS CARE FOR A KNEE INJURY FOR 60 DAYS. I HAVE SLIPPED OFF THESE SAME RUNNING BOARDS THREE TIMES MYSELF. FORD MOTOR NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. I HAVE CONTACTED BOTH FORD MOTOR AND MY SEALING DEALER ABOUT THIS WITH NO RESULTS. *TR
THE TRUCK BRAKES DID NOT WORK ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED. THE ENGINE WAS AT FAST IDLE, PLACED IN DRIVE AND THE BRAKES WOULD NOT FUNCTION. THIS LURCHED THE TRUCK FORWARD WHILE EXTREME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO STOP IT. DANGEROUS IN A PARKING SETTING WHERE A PEDESTRIAN IS WALKING IN FRONT OR BEHIND THE TRUCK. IT JUMPS FORWARDS OR BACK, DEPENDING IF DRIVE OR REVERSE IS SELECTED. AS TIME WENT BY THE BRAKES BECAME WEAKER WHEN APPLYING AT STOPS. AS I REFLECT BACK IN THE PAST WHEN PULLING A TRAILER IT HIT THE BACKEND OF ANOTHER VEHICLE IN AN EMERGENCY STOPPING SITUATION ON THE INTERSTATE. THE TRUCK WOULD PARK WELL IN THE GARAGE, BUT WHEN PULLING OUT YOU HAVE TO BE AWARE OF IT LURCHING INTO THE HOUSE OR ANOTHER VEHICLE. TOOK THE TRUCK TO FORD DEALER WHICH DIAGNOSED IT AS A BRAKE VACUUM PUMP FAILURE. THE ECO BOOST ENGINE IS TURBO CHARGED WHICH ROBS THE VACUUM SYSTEM OF NEEDED VACUUM. TO SUPPLEMENT THE NEED FOR VACUUM THIS VACUUM PUMP WAS ENGINEERED INTO THE SYSTEM TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL VACUUM. IF IT FAILURES THE BRAKES FAIL ALSO. THE 2014 MODELS HAVE BEEN REENGINEERED TO A MECHANICAL PUMP ELEMINATING THE ELECTRICAL PUMP. THE FORD SERVICE MAN SAID THAT THERE HAVE BEEN A RANGE OF NUMEROUS BRAKE FAILURES DUE TO THIS PUMP CONFIGURATION. THE FORD GARAGE CHARGED $832.57 TO GET US BACK ON THE ROAD AND FOR US TO HAVE A SAFE TRIP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000.
LOSS OF POWER DURING ACCELERATION WITH ECOBOOST ENGINE. I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING TO THE FORD DEALERSHIPS ABOUT THIS SINCE RIGHT AFTER I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. THANK YOU FOR PUTTING THIS PROBLEM IN THE MEDIA AS I AM NOW HOPEFUL FOR A RESOLUTION. I CALLED THE FORD DEALERSHIP THIS MORNING AND THEY SAID THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT IT AND TO CONTACT FORD. HERE WE GO AGAIN WITH NO ONE IN FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENTS WANTING TO ACKNOWLEDGE AND RESOLVE THE PROBLEM....... *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT ANY SPEED THE VEHICLE WOULD DRIFT TO THE LEFT. WHEN THE CONTACT WOULD STEER THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT IN ORDER TO STRAIGHTEN THE DIRECTION OF THE VEHICLE, IT WILL DRIFT TO THE RIGHT AND INTO THE NEXT LANE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE BUT ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FUNCTION WAS OPERATING PROPERLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5490.
RADIO WITH SYNC, DROPS AUDIO ON LEFT CHANNEL. FORD DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE BUT CHANGED LEFT FRONT SPEAKER. STARTED DOING IT AGAIN AND THIS TIME I REPLACED ALL FOUR SPEAKERS WITH HIGHER GRADE TRIAXLES. STILL INTERMITTENTLY DROPS LEFT CHANNEL. THIS HAPPENS ON RADIO, SIRIUS AND SYNC, BOTH SERVICES AND PHONE. *TR
TRUCK STARTED TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY WHEN ACCELERATING. FELT AS IF THE WHEELS WERE LOOSE OR THE U JOINT FOR THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS GOING BAD. HAD TO LET OFF THE GAS. HAS BEEN ONGOING FROM THE TIME I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE TO PRESENT TIME. *TR
THERE IS A POPPING AND JOLTING MECHANICAL FEEL FROM THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END OF THE TRUCK. IT FEELS LIKE THE FRONT END OR STEERING SHAFT IS LITERALLY ABOUT TO COME APART. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS AT NORMAL SPEEDS AT ANY SPEED ON STRAIGHT ROADS THAT ARE PAVED NORMALLY WITHOUT DEFECT. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WORSE THE HIGHER THE TEMPERATURE IS OUTSIDE. IT BEGAN AT AROUND 3K MILES AND HAS STEADILY GROWN WORSE UNLESS THE TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 80 DEGREES. THE STEERING BEGINS TO FEEL LOOSE AND UNSTEADY AT ANY SPEED. AT ITS WORST YOU CAN HEAR THE POPPING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE LONGER THE VEHICLE OPERATES THE MORE PRONOUNCED THE SENSATION COMING THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. I FEEL AT ANY MOMENT THAT THE STEERING MAY JUST COMPLETELY FAIL. *TR
THERE IS A KNOCKING,POPPING,LOOSE FEELING IN THE STEERING WHEEL. MY TRUCK IS ON IT'S 2ND STEERING RACK AND IT FEELS WORST THAN THE ORIGINAL ONE AFTER 3500 MILES ON IT. THE DEALER DOES'NT KNOW WHAT TO DO BECAUSE THERE IS'NT A FIX. I DO KNOW THAT THIS ISSUE IS RELATED TO THE HEAT, THE HOTTER IT IS OUTSIDE AND THE LONGER YOU DRIVE THE MORE NOTICEABLE IT IS. I KNOW THAT A $45,000 TRUCK SHOULD'NT FEEL LIKE THIS WHEN IT ONLY HAS 14,000 MILES ON IT. I HAVE CALLED FORD CUSTOMER CARE AND THEY DO NOTHING AND NOW MY DEALER IS IGNORING ME. I LOVE MY TRUCK, BUT I WISH FORD WOULD TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS AND THIS PROBLEM. *TR
VEHICLE HAS FORD'S SELECTSHIFT TRANSMISSION - WHEN IT IS PUT IN "M" MODE AND THEN GEAR 1 IS SELECTED, IT WILL BEHAVE NORMALLY UP TO ABOUT 3000 RPM. ABOVE 3000 RPM, IT WILL NOT SLOW DOWN IF THE DRIVER'S FOOT IS REMOVED FROM THE ACCELERATOR. IF THE SLOPE OF THE ROAD CHANGES, IT WILL CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE AS THOUGH IT WAS STILL GOING UPHILL, INCREASING SPEED WITHOUT ANY DRIVER INPUT. IT WILL RETURN TO NORMAL BEHAVIOR IMMEDIATELY AS SOON AS THE BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED, AND THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO ONLY OCCUR WHEN THE TRANSMISSION IS LOCKED INTO 1ST GEAR AND IN THE M POSITION (NOT D). *TT
THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW WAS ROLLED ALL THE WAY DOWN AND AS I WAS DRIVING IT SHATTERED INSIDE THE DOOR. *TR
ENGINE, THE TURBOCHARGED V-6 ECOBOOST, STALLED OUT (TRIED TO DIE AND SHOOK AND AND SHUDDERED LIKE NOTHING I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED IN 50 YEARS OF DRIVING) WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PASS A TRUCK ON THE INTERSTATE AND AGAIN WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM AN EXIT STOP SIGN AFTER TRAVELING IN COLD RAIN. GLAD I WAS ON A FREEWAY VICE TWO LANE ROAD. TAKES ABOUT 15 TO 20 SECONDS FOR THE ENGINE TO GET POWER BACK. DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (APX. 70 MPH) ATTEMPT TO PASS A SLOWER VEHICLE, AND UPON ACCELERATION, THE TRUCK LOST ALL POWER, AND WOULD NOT SPEED UP. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AND STAYED ON UNTIL THE TRUCK HAD BEEN TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS, AND IT ALWAYS SEEMS TO OCCUR IN THE RAIN, OR HIGH HUMIDITY DAYS. I HAVE NARROWLY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT ON 3 OCCASION. I RECENTLY LEARNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM HAVING A FIX, THROUGH THE WEB, AND I AM NOW TOLD "THERE IS A FIX, BUT IT NOT A WARRATNY SITUATION"
FORD ECOBOOST. VEHICLE HAS FEW ISSUES. FIRST THERE IS UNEXPECTED HESITATION WHEN PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC. YOU ARE WITHOUT POWER AND SUBJECT TO BEING RUN OVER. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE ENGINE GOES LIMP WHEN ACCELERATING LEAVING YOU IN TRAFFIC SUBJECT TO BEING RUN OVER. FORD HAS REPLACED THE CAC AND THIS HAS NOT HAPPENED SINCE. TRUCK STARTED HAVING A POPPING IN THE STEERING WHEEL OVER ROUGH ROADS AND TERRAIN. STEERING SHAFT WAS REPLACED BY DEALER WITH NO FIX. I WAS TRAVELING IN FLORIDA ON THE HIGHWAY AND WENT TO PASS A SEMI. THE ENGINE SPUTTERED AND I LOST POWER. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I HAD TO PULL OFF OF THE INTERSTATE. I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE AND RESTARTED IT. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE ENGINE RAN FINE. SEVERAL TIMES SINCE, THE VEHICLE WOULD SPUTTER ON HARD ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WOULD BLINK. FOLLOWING TWO HEAVILY LADEN 18 WHEELERS DURING A LIGHT RAIN STORM FOR TWO OR MORE MILES ON A PAVED, TWO LANE COUNTY ROAD, IT CAME CLEAR FOR ME TO PASS, I ACCELERATED AND ALL WENT WELL FOR JUST LONG ENOUGH FOR ME TO GET EVEN WITH THE FIRST ONE IN FRONT OF ME. MY MOMENTUM CARRIED ME FAR ENOUGH TO PULL BACK IN FRONT OF THE FIRST TRUCK. BY THAT TIME I WAS IN SERIOUS TROUBLE. WHEN I STARTED UP MY F-150 SUPER CREW CAB WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE THE SERVICE ADVANCED TRACK WARNING MESSAGE CAME ON. AS I WAS DRIVING WITH THIS ERROR MESSAGE ON THE DASH I FOUND THAT MY TURN SIGNALS WOULD NOT STAY ON UNLESS I HOLD THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER. LATER THAT DAY I WENT TO TAKE THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALER TO SHOW THEM THE ISSUE AND THE ERROR MESSAGE WAS GONE AND THE TURN SIGNALS WERE NOW FUNCTIONING FINE. SINCE THE ERROR WAS NO LONGER ON THE FORD DEALER COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE ERROR STAYED OFF FOR ABOUT 6 WEEKS AND THEN CAME ON AGAIN. NOW IT HAS BEEN COMING ON ABOUT EVERY 3 OR 4 DAYS SO I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY DETERMINED THAT THE ISSUE IS WITH THE RACK AND PINION STEERING ASSEMBLY AND HAVE REPLACED THAT. I JUST GO THE TRUCK BACK AND HAVE NOT HAD TIME TO CONFIRM THAT THE ISSUE IS FIXED HOWEVER MY CONFIDENCE LEVEL IS NOT THERE AS THIS IS JUST ONE OF MANY ISSUES THAT I HAVE SEEN ON THIS TRUCK THAT APPEAR TO BE "COMPUTER" RELATED SINCE SHUTTING OFF THE TRUCK (OR AS I PUT IT REBOOTING) WILL CORRECT THE ISSUE. *TT
DROVE 200 MILES WITH CRUISE SET AT 73 MPH TOWING AN ENCLOSED TRAILER, DAMP COOL CONDITIONS. PULLED OFF FREEWAY TO FUEL UP. WHILE ACCELERATING ON THE ON RAMP TO GET BACK ON THE FREEWAY, VEHICLE STUMBLED, LOST ALL POWER TO THE WHEELS, TRUCK WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. REMOVED FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR FOR A FEW SECONDS AND PRESSED DOWN AGAIN, THIS TIME THE TRUCK ACCELERATED. HAPPENED AGAIN 2 DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING THROUGH FOG. VEHICLE IS A 2011 F-150 EQUIPPED WITH THE ECOBOOST ENGINE. INTERCOOLER CONDENSATION IS THE SUSPECTED CULPRIT. *TT

SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED FEW MONTHS LATER AND THE VEHICLE UNDERWENT RECOMMENDED REPAIR/UPGRADE PER FORD TSB INCLUDING INTERCOOLER COVER AND REFLASH OF COMPUTER. FOR PAST WEEK VEHICLE HAS HAD PERSISTENT POWER LOSS AND "SHUTTERING" DURING ACCELERATION. THIS NOT ONLY LIMITS THE DRIVABILITY OF THE VEHICLE, IT ALSO ENDANGERS THE OCCUPANTS WHEN ATTEMPTING TO MERGE WITH TRAFFIC AND CROSSING INTERSECTIONS. THERE IS A KNOCKING/TAPPING/RATTLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL/SHAFT WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS AT ANY SPEED. MANY FOLKS ARE COMPLAINING ABOUT THIS EXACT ISSUE ON FORD TRUCK FORUMS YET FORD SAYS THIS IS NORMAL, IT CANNOT BE NORMAL IF THESE TRUCKS ARE FINE WHEN THEY ARE BRAND NEW YET DEVELOP THIS RATTLE AND KNOCKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AFTER A FEW THOUSAND MILES. MY TRUCKS STEERING FEELS VERY SLOPPY AND LOOSE WHEN GOING STRAIGHT OVER BUMPS AND HAS A RATTLE/KNOCKING/POPPING SENSATION THROUGH THE STEERING WHEEL. IT FEELS AS IF SOMETHING IS GOING TO FALL APART IN THE STEERING SYSTEM. MANY OWNERS HAVE HAD THEIR STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY REPLACED BY FORD WITH GOOD TEMPORARY RESULTS ONLY TO HAVE THE PROBLEM RETURN A FEW HUNDRED TO A FEW THOUSAND MILES LATER, SO AGAIN IT CANNOT BE NORMAL. I WAS BACKING UP AFTER A COLD START AND THE BRAKES FAILED. I TOOK IT IN FOR A REPAIR AND THEY TESTED THE VEHICLE AND FOUND THE PROBLEM. IT WAS A BLOWN FUSE AND BAD VACUUM PUMP. THE FUSE AND PUMP WERE REPLACED. THIS HAPPENED AGAIN ON 3/29/12 AND THE PUMP WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED A SECOND TIME ALL UNDER WARRANTY. THIS OCCURRED A THIRD TIME ON 6/13/15 AND THE VACUUM PUMP WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AGAIN AND REPLACED AT A COST $200 IN LABOR. THE DEALERSHIP PROVIDED THE PARTS AS GOOD WILL DUE TO MY COMPLAINTS. ON 6/1715 THE VEHICLES BRAKE AGAIN STOP WORKING. THIS TIME THEY REPORTED THE FUSE HAD BLOWN FOR SOME REASON AND BLAMED IT ON THE STRAIN FROM THE OLD VACUUM PUMP. NOTE: THE FUSE ALSO BLEW BACK IN 2012 WHEN I FIRST HAD THE PROBLEM. I HAVE LITTLE TO NO FAITH THAT MY BRAKES WILL WORK ON A COLD START EVERY TIME I START MY CAR. MY VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH THE 3.5 LITER ECOBOOST 6 CYLINDER ENGINE. UPON ATTEMPTING TO PASS A VEHICLE WHILE TRAVELING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO HESITATE AND THE ENGINE FELT ROUGH. THE VEHICLE REFUSED TO ACCELERATE, CAUSING ME TO SWERVE BACK INTO THE RIGHT LANE TO AVOID BEING REAR-ENDED BY A VEHICLE TRAVELING IN THE LEFT LANE. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 30 - 60 SECONDS, THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCEPT THROTTLE AND RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THIS PROBLEM HAS REPEATED ITSELF ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE 7TH TIME TO REMEDY THIS PROBLEM. IN ONLY ONE INSTANCE OF THE MANY THAT I'VE HAD, I DID GET A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. FORTUNATELY, THIS WAS DOCUMENTED BY THE FORD DEALERSHIP AS ONE ENTIRE BANK OF CYLINDERS MISFIRING. ADDITIONALLY, I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING OF TRANSMISSION SHIFT ISSUES, WHERE AT SLOW (LESS THAN 10 MPH) SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION OFTEN 'HUNTS' BETWEEN TWO GEARS AND ONCE SELECTED, A LOUD NOISE EMANATES FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE AND CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO NOTICEABLY JERK I ONLY LEARNED OF NHTSA PE13018 ON 1/28/15. THE FIRST INCIDENT YIELDED INSTALLATION OF THE DEFLECTOR IN THE VICINITY OF THE CHARGE AIR COOLER. ANOTHER INCIDENT YIELDED A TSB TO REMOVE THE DEFLECTOR, AND MOST RECENTLY ANOTHER TSB TO RE-INSTALL SAID AIR DEFLECTOR. IN EVERY INSTANCE OF THIS PROBLEM, I'VE HAD TO EXECUTE EMERGENCY MANEUVERS TO AVOID TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP HAS COMMENTED THAT FORD ENGINEERING HAS NO CLUE HOW TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. I WAS DRIVING ALONG HWY 95 IN GEORGIA FOR SEVERAL HOURS EARLY ONE MORNING. I WENT TO PASS A SEMI AND LOST ALL POWER. THE TRUCK RPMS JUMPED UP WHILE THE TRANSMISSION DOWN SHIFTED TO 4TH GEAR BUT THE TRUCK DID NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD TO GET BACK INTO MY LANE IN AN ABRUPT WAY CAUSING TRAFFIC TO RE-ACT AND ALLOW ME BACK IN. THIS HAS HAPPENED ALMOST A DOZEN TIMES SINCE THEN. FORD HAS BEEN ISSUING TSB FOR A FIX BUT NONE OF THEM WORK. THIS IS ONLY HAPPENING ON THE 3.5L ECO-BOOST MOTOR. THEY ARE NOW IN THEIR 3RD MODEL YEAR OF THIS TRUCK AND ARE STILL HAVING THIS PROBLEM, IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE TIMING OF WHEN THIS HAPPENS IS UN-PREDICTABLE AND OFTEN LEAVES NO CODES FOR THE DEALER TO TROUBLESHOOT, SO YOU GET SENT ON YOUR WAY WITH "COULD NOT REPLICATE PROBLEM". FORD HAS BEEN CLAIMING IT IS CONDENSATION IN THE INTER-COOLER, HAS ISSUED COMPUTER UPDATES NUMEROUS TIMES, NOW THEY HAVE RELEASED AND UPGRADED INTER-COOLER, BUT THE PROBLEMS ARE STILL HAPPENING. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN A VAN STOPPED. I HIT THE BRAKES, BUT THERE WERE NO BRAKES AT ALL. THEN I HIT THEM AGAIN AND AGAIN AND AGAIN AND THE BRAKES ACTIVATED BUT IT CONCLUDED WITH A MAJOR ACCIDENT OCCURRING . THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME I LOST BRAKES. I HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKE SYSTEM THREE TIMES SINCE THIS ISSUE AND I SHOW NO REPLACING OF VACUUM TANK AND THE BRAKES ARE ALWAYS BAD AND NEEDING TO BE FIXED THREE TIMES IN FOUR YEARS THAT'S A BRAKE JOB A YEAR. THE DATE DONE WORK HERE BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED 2/12, 2013 AND 2014.
I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW FORD F 150 IN AUGUST OF 2011. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING BANGING IN THE STEERING WHEEL AS WELL AS AN AUDIBLE NOTE AT LOW SPEEDS AND HIGH SPEEDS. ALWAYS WHEN THE TRUCK IS COASTING STRAIGHT WITHOUT ANY INPUT IN THE STEERING. I HAVE GOTTEN NO WHERE WITH THE PURCHASE DEALER....APPLE FORD IN COLUMBIA MD. I AM TAKING IT TO A DIFFERENT DEALER WITH HOPES THAT THEY WILL GIVE A [XXX] AND TRY AND GET TO THE BOTTOM OF IT. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS BECOMING A SAFETY ISSUE!!!! MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH MY CHILDREN.......IT IS THAT BAD. WHAT, IF ANYTHING, IS BEING DONE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM? MY 2011 F150 ECOBOOST WITH EPAS STEERING IS POPPING AND CLUNKING WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD. IT FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS LOOSE IN THE STEERING. I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO HAVE THEM TELL ME THIS IS NORMAL. IT IS NOT NORMAL. THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER F150 OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS AND I'M CONCERNED IT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH ME AND MY FAMILY. RAINY DAY TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 19 NEAR CROCKETT , TEXAS. TRIED TO PASS SLOW MOVING VEHICLE AND ENGINE STALLED, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STARTED MISSING. LOST POWER AND I WAS FORCED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO AVOID COLLISION. TOOK TRUCK TO DEALER AND HE INSTALLED A SMALL PLATE OVER INTER COOLER. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER WHILE PASSING ON A HUMID DAY SAME THING OCCURRED WITH SAME RESULTS. PULLED TO SIDE OF ROAD BECAUSE I COULD NOT GET BACK INTO MY LANE DUE TO OTHER CARS. TOOK BACK TO FORD IN OCTOBER, 2013 AND THEY INSTALLED ANOTHER PLATE ON BOTTOM OF INTERCOOLER AND REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. I HAVE NO FAITH IN THE REPAIRS AND WILL PROBABLY NEVER TRY A PASS IN ANY HUMID OR WET WEATHER. *TR
UPON ACCELERATION MY TRUCK SHIFTED ROUGHLY SPUTTERED AND SHUT DOWN, THEN THE WRENCH SHOWED UP AND I HAD TO DRIFT TO SIDE OF ROAD. THIS HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. THEY HAVE DONE A COMPUTER UPDATE 1ST TIME, NO LUCK, REPLACED A LOOSE PIN,NO LUCK, REPLACED COMPUTER , NO LUCK, REPLACED CRANK SHAFT SENSOR, NO LUCK. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY EVENT. TWO TIMES MY TRUCK STALLED AND SHUT OFF WHILE MERGING ONTO AN EXTREMELY BUSY HIGHWAY. I HAVE CHILDREN THAT RIDE IN MY TRUCK AND I DO NOT FEEL SAFE. I HAVE OPENED A CASE WITH FORD BUT ALL THEY WANT TO DO IS KEEP FIXING IT. 44,000 TRUCK , TRANSMISSION STINKS AND I WANT A REFUND. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE SERIOUSLY HURT OR DIE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. *TR
