I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY GOING 60 MILES AN HOUR AND MY TRANSMISSION WENT FROM 6TH GEAR TO 1ST GEAR LOCKING UP MY WHEELS AND I SKIDDED AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL
#27 FUSE LOCATED UNDER HOOD CAN BURN AND SHUT FUEL PUMP DOWN. REQUIRES A FUSE RELOCATION KIT. FROM # 27 TO USING EMPTY #70 FUSE HOLDER. WHILE DRIVING OR AFTER SHUTTING CAR OFF IT WILL NOT RESTART. CAN HAPPEN AT ANYTIME. AS A RESULT I FIRST REPLACED FUEL PUMP DRIVER MODULE, MASTER RELAY TO FUEL PUMP ALSO FUEL PUMP BEFORE I RESOLVED ISSUE. BECAUSE IT'S A INTERMITTENT PROBLEM
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, HE NOTICED THE STEERING WHEEL WAS A LITTLE LOOSE, THE CONTACT STOP THE VEHICLE, PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARKED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL BECOME DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE CHECK, THE POWER STEERING LIGHT WAS OFF. THEN AN INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED WAS TO PRESS THE OK BUTTON, THE CONTACT PRESSED THE OK BUTTON. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT HE GUEST THE OK BUTTON WAS TO RESET. ONCE THE BUTTON WAS PRESSED, THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE GOT HIS POWER STEERING BACK. THE CONTACT HAD MENTION THAT THE POWER STEERING NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE CONTACT CALLED BLUE RIDGE NORTH GEORGIA FORD, 7525 APPALACHIAN HWY, MINERAL BLUFF, GA 30559, AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT SCHEDULE AND APPOINTMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ALSO INFORMED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER A RECALL AND WILL HAD TO PAY A FEE FOR THE REPAIR AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 150,000.
WHILE DRIVING, EITHER GOING 25 MPH IN A HOUSING DEVELOPMENT OR 75 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE, THE TRUCK WILL SOMETIMES SHIFT GEARS, THROW A WRENCH LIGHT, AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL READ 0. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR AN ISSUE SIMILAR TO THIS FOR TRUCKS BETWEEN 2011 AND 2013. TRUCKS NOT COVERED UNDER THIS RECALL WERE GIVEN A FEILD SERVICE ACTION FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY KNOW THIS IS AN ISSUE TO MORE VEHICLES THAN WHAT THEY RECALLED. OWNERS WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THIS FIELD SERVICE ACTION. NOT ONLY THAT, BUT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS WHILE GOING 75 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. THIS CAUSES THE TRUCK TO DOWN SHIFT, SLOW DOWN, AND YOU MUST PULL OVER FOR SAFETY ON THE INTERSTATE. A CODE WILL POP UP AS P0720 OR P0721. FORD SHOULD BE DOING MORE SINCE THEY KNOW IT IS AN ISSUE, OR THEY WOULD NOT HAVE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY. THIS IS HAPPENING TO MANY F-150 VEHICLES BUILT IN THOSE DATE RANGES.
WHILE DRIVING THERE IS A NOISE COMING FROM THE FROM SUSPENSION AROUND THE WHEELS THAT SOUNDS LIKE RUNNING OVER RUMBLE STRIPS. IT IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT OCCURS ON AND OFF ALL THE TIME. THE MECHANIC SAYS IT IS SOMETHING IN THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE COMPONENTS
WHEN DRIVING AT A NORMAL HIGHWAY SPEED OF ANYWHERE BETWEEN 50 TO 75 MPH THE TRANSMISSION WILL DOWN SHIFT TO 1ST GEAR. DOES NOT SUDDENLY SLOW DOWN BECAUSE THE GEAR RETURNS TO 5 OR 6TH GEAR IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE HAD A FORD DEALERSHIP ADDRESS THE ISSUE BY REPROGRAMMING THE CONTROL MODULE ON THE TRANSMISSION BUT I AM STILL EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM. I BELIEVE IT TO BE A HIGH SAFETY RISK. THE OCCURRENCE HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. SO THERE IS NO SPECIFIC DATE AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE TRANSMISSION WOULD INTERMITTENTLY DOWNSHIFT WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT THEN RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19V075000(POWER TRAIN) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO RAY SKILLMAN FORD, INC.(1250 US-31, GREENWOOD, IN 46143) WHERE THEY SERVICED THE RECALL. ONE DAY AS THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING AT 73 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED TO FIRST SHIFT AND THE CONTACT HIT HIS HEAD ON THE STEERING WHEEL. BOTH REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP AS THE VEHICLE SPUN OUT OF CONTROL AND VEERED INTO A DITCH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND DROVE OUT OF THE DITCH. THE CONTACT DID NOT SEEK MEDICAL ATTENTION FOR HIS INJURY. DUE THE FAILURE, THE VARIABLE TIMING CHAIN WAS DAMAGED AND WAS NO LONGER ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND THEY INFORMED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL DEALER. THE CONTACT THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE WITH ENGINE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED AND REMAINED IN THE POSSESSION OF THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 160,000.
WE WENT TO MY BROTHERS FOR DINNER. WHEN WE BACKED INTO HIS DRIVEWAY THE TRUCK MADE A HORRIBLE NOISE. WHEN WE GOT HOME, WE COULD BARELY BACK INTO OUR DRIVEWAY, IN FACT WE WERE HALF THE FLOWERBED AND HALF ON THE DRIVEWAY. THE NEXT MORNING WE TRIED TO MOVE THE TRUCK OVER SO WE COULD GET OUR OTHER CAR OUT OF THE GARAGE, AND THE TRUCK WAS BARELY DRIVABLE. WE HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT IT THE NEXT DAY. THEY DIAGNOSED IT AND THE SAME CODE CAME UP AS THE RECALL THAT MY FATHER FOUND WHEN RESEARCHING, BUT OUR VIN NUMBER WASN'T ONE OF THEM. THEY GAVE US AN ESTIMATE OF APPROX. $3000. WE HAD IT TOWED TO ANOTHER FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FIXED IT FOR $1,981. WE THANK OUR LUCKY STARS THE STEERING GEAR DID NOT GO OUT ON US ON OUR WAY HOME, WE PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE HERE TO TELL ABOUT IT, AS WE WERE ON A DARK CURVY ROAD AND THEN ON THE FREEWAY.
I AM EXPERIENCING ERRATIC SHIFTING AND MY TRANSMISSION ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS HAS SHIFTED FROM 5TH GEAR DOWN TO FIRST GEAR WHILE TRAVELING HIGH RATES OF SPEED RESULTING IN MY WHEELS LOCKING UP.
THE SPEED REDUCED FROM 50 TO 20 AND THEN SUDDENLY STOP. THE SPEEDOMETER WENT TO 0 AFTER TAKING IT TO DO THE RECALL FOR SUDDEN TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFT. BEFORE THAT IT WASN'T DOING IT. FORD DOES NOT WANT TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT'S OVER 150,000 MILES, BUT I JUST KNEW ABOUT THIS PAST RECALL.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A HILL ON A MAIN STREET WITH MY KIDS WHEN MY F150 2012 SUDDENLY SHIFTED INTO FIRST GEAR. I ALMOST LOST CONTROL INTO ON COMING TRAFFIC AND THE VEHICLES BEHIND ME HAD TO SLAM ON THEIR BRAKES TO AVOID REAR ENDING ME ALSO. I HAD TO PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR AND MAKE MY WAY TO MY HOUSE. I TOLD MY WIFE WHAT HAPPENED AND SHE MENTIONED THAT SOMETHING SIMILAR HAPPENED TO HER. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL TO SOLVE THE ISSUE AND COULD FIX IT IN APPROXIMATELY SIX DAYS. AFTER PICKING THE TRUCK UP THE SAME INCIDENT HAPPENED ON THE DRIVE HOME. IT DROPPED INTO FIRST GEAR FROM 3RD OR 4TH AND ALMOST LOCKED UP THE TIRES ON A BUSY ROAD. I WAS EXTREMELY UPSET WITH FORD FOR RETURNING AN UNSAFE VEHICLE STATING THEY HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM WITHOUT TESTING IT TO BE SURE AND PUTTING MY FAMILY IN DANGER. I CALLED THEM BACK AND THEY SAID THAT WAS THE ONLY FIX ON THE RECALL. I HOPE FORD IS NOT GETTING OFF THAT EASY BY DOING A SOFTWARE FIX WHEN OBVIOUSLY THE PROBLEM IS BIGGER. THEY MUST BE HELD TO A SAFE STANDARD AND ACCOUNTABLE TO ENSURE THE SAFETY OF NOT ONLY THEIR CUSTOMERS BUT OTHER PEOPLE ON THE ROADS. THE FACT THAT THE MECHANICS ARE NOW TELLING ME THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THEY KNOW THE FIX BUT WANT US THE CONSUMERS TO PAY TO FIX THEIR WIDE SPREAD ISSUES IS FRUSTRATING AND SCARY IMAGING HOW MANY PEOPLE WONT BE ABLE TO OR WANT TO FIX THE ISSUE AND SELL THE VEHICLES PASSING THE SAFETY HAZARD ON.
The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to stop the vehicle, excessive force was needed to depress the brake pedal. The contact stated that the brake pedal was hot to the touch. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the vacuum pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The failure reoccurred and the vehicle was returned to the mechanic to be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 175,000.
IN JUNE OF 2018 I PURCHASED MY 2012 F150 5.0 WITH 16,250 MILES. I NOW HAVE 40,650. BACK IN OCT OF 2020 I BEGAN HAVING ISSUES WITH THE TRUCKS ENGINE SPUTTERING, CHUGGING, ETC.. WHEN ACCELERATING IN DAY TO DAY TO TRAFFIC. THE ENGINE WOULD RUN VERY ROUGH WHILE I SAT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD OR IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC WAITING FOR THE TRUCK TO "WORK THROUGH IT" OR COMPLETELY DIE. I'D WAIT A FEW MINUTES, START IT BACK UP AND BE ON MY WAY. I CAN BE SITTING AT A LIGHT, IT TURNS GREEN AND I TAKE OFF AND IT'LL ACT UP OR EVEN WHEN I'M TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD A CAR IN FRONT OF ME SLOWS DOWN TO TURN AND AFTER THEY TURN I PRESS THE ACCELERATOR AND IT ACTS UP. IT THROWS NO CODES BUT I'M A SITTING DUCK OUT THERE WHEN THIS HAPPENS DUE TO THE EXTREME QUICK LOSS OF POWER. IN MOST CASES OF THIS HAPPENING I USUALLY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH MOMENTUM TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF TRAFFIC CAUSING UNSAFE CONDITIONS FOR ALL. ITS VERY RANDOM AND UNPREDICTABLE EVIDENT BY IT OCCURRING SEVERAL TIMES IN A WEEK OR NOT AT ALL FOR SEVERAL WEEKS. AS SOON AS THIS ISSUE BEGAN I HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED BY MY MECHANIC BUT IT STILL CONTINUED. MY MECHANIC EVEN KEPT MY TRUCK TO DRIVE AROUND AT DIFFERENT TIMES DURING TWO SPERATE WEEKS TO "RE-ENACT" THE ISSUE, BUT IT NEVER HAPPENED. WITHIN A DAY OR TWO OF GETTING IT BACK FROM HIM IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. I'VE BEEN TO FORD AND IF YOUR VEHICLE DOESN'T THROW A CODE THEY DON'T HAVE TIME FOR YOU, "BUT IF THERE'S ANYTHING ELSE THEY CAN DO FOR YOU JUST LET THEM KNOW". THIS IS A HASSLE, UNSAFE SITUATION THAT I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH FOR SEVERAL MONTHS NOW WITH NO ONE ABLE TO GIVE ME ANY ANSWERS TO FIX THIS. YES, I'VE SEEN AND HEARD THE LIST OF EVERYTHING IT COULD POSSIBLE BE FROM BUMPER TO BUMPER. I NEED A RESOLUTION BECAUSE I'VE EXTINGUISHED ALL OTHER AVENUES.
I TURNED ON MY DEFROSTER ON MY VEHICLE AND THE BACK PASSENGER GLASS BACK WINDSHIELD SHATTERED...THE VERY BACK WINDSHIELD
THE 2011-2013 FORD F-150 ECO BOOST IS KNOWN TO HAVE TIMING CHAIN STRETCH ISSUES CAUSING POSSIBLE TOTAL ENGINE FAILURE. 25 MONTHS AGO WE SPENT $3,700 HAVING CAMS AND PHASERS AND ALL CHAINS REPAIRED BY A FORD CERTIFIED DEALER WITH FORD MOTOR CRAFT PARTS. LESS THAN 1 MONTH FOLLOWING THE WARRANTY OF THE WORK THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAIN HAS FAILED LEAVING THE VEHICLE USEABLE WHILE MY WIFE WAS TRAVELING DOWN A GRAVEL ROAD AND WE ARE LOOKING AT ANOTHER $3,700 REPAIR PLUS A TOW AND INCONVENIENCE FOR A KNOWN AND REPEATED PROBLEM AND FORD WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THESE ISSUES.
I WAS LOADING UP TO GO TO THE DUMP IN MY 2012 F150 AND I TAPPED THE BACK WINDOW JUST SLIGHTLY WITH A PIECE OF GARBAGE AND IT SHATTERED MY BACK WINDOW INCLUDING MY SLIDER AND THE DRIVER SIDE OF THE REAR WINDOW, THIS WAS NO HARSH IMPACT IT WAS THE SLIGHTEST TAP ALMOST LIKE IT SHATTERED WITH NO FORCE.
WITH LESS THAN 500 MILES ON A NEW SET OF TIRES, I HAD A POWER STEERING ASSIST WARNING. I WAS ATTENDING A HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL GAME AND WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK TO RETURN HOME A NOTICE CAME ON THE DASH. I QUICKLY REALIZED THAT I HAD NO POWER STEERING. I SHUT THE TRUCK DOWN, OPENED THE DOOR THEN RESTARTED. THE WARNING WAS GONE AND I HAD POWER STEERING. WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL LEFT WAS VERY EASY, TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE RIGHT WAS JUST SLIGHTLY HARDER.
DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH THE TRUCK SHIFTED INTO 1ST GEAR AND REAR WHEELS LOCKED UP.
ON WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 30, 2020, MY 2012 FORD F-150 WAS INVOLVED IN A 35MPH FRONT END COLLISION. THE DRIVER WAS THE ONLY OCCUPANT IN THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. I AM CONCERNED WHY AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. AFTER ACCIDENT, THERE WAS AN AMBER "AIRBAG MALFUNCTION" WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. IN 2012, THERE WAS A FORD F-150 RECALL # 12V198000 FOR PASSENGER AIRBAG CONTROL SENSOR MODULE (OCSM). THIS VIN # WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL. THIS VEHICLE MAY HAVE A FAULTY OCSM THAT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. I AM GOING TO ASK THE REPAIR SHOP TO SAVE THIS VEHICLES "BLACK BOX" AND OCSM IN CASE THERE IS NEED FOR FURTHER INVESTIGATION OF THESE PARTS.
I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY WHEN AS SOON AS I GOT OUT MY TRUCK SUDDENLY LOCKED UP AND THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH THE SERVICE LIGHT AND ALSO THE WRENCH LIGHT AND AS I WAS DRIVING MY SPEEDOMETER WOULDN'T GO PAST 0 BUT WOULD STILL ACCELERATE. THIS WAS HAPPENING WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD GOING ABOUT 15MPH.
MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE IN MOTION 45MPH + (SPONTANEOUSLY) , ORANGE WRENCH COMES UP ON MY DASH, SPEEDOMETER DROPS TO ZERO, ENGINE POWER IS CUT TO ALMOST NOTHING, AND A FEW TIMES AT HIGHER SPEEDS 60MPH +, THE WHEELS LOCK DUE TO TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFTING OUT OF NOWHERE. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON THE LOOP, CITY STREETS, HIGHWAYS, IT'S RANDOM. I CAN ONLY LIMP MY WAY TO A SAFE SPOT TO PULL OVER, TURN ENGINE OFF THEN BACK ON AND EVERYTHING GENERALLY STARTS WORKING AGAIN. LAST NIGHT ON A CITY ROAD DOING ABOUT 55MPH IT LOCKED UP AGAIN BUT REFUSED TO DROP OUT OF 5TH GEAR THOUGH I WAS AT A DEAD STOP. EVEN TURNING THE KEY OF AND ON WOULD NOT RE SET IT. IT FINALLY GOT TO 1ST AFTER MESSING WITH IT AND I GOT IT HOME, HOOKED IT TO MY OBD2 READER AND IT IS THROWING A P0720 OUTPUT SPEED SHAFT SENSOR MALFUNCTION CODE AND MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WILL NOT GO OFF. I HAVE ATTACHED A PICTURE OF THE CODE IT IS NOW SHOWING, AND DATE OF MALFUNCTION IS MOST RECENT.
WE JUST SET UP AN APPOINTMENT WITH OUR NEAREST FORD DEALER TO HAVE THE RECALL TAKEN CARE OF WITCH IS STILL AN HOUR AND A HALF DRIVE. THEN ON FRIDAY BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT IT STARTED TO RATTLE AND DIED WHILE TRAVELING THRU A CONTROLLED INTERSECTION. I MADE IT HOME BARELY AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP TODAY I WAS TOLD THAT IT HAD A DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN THAT FORD WAS AWARE OF BUT ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX. BOTTOM LINE IS IT RUINED THE ENGINE AND NOW I AM STUCK WITH A $10,000 BILL. THE SAFETY ISSUE IS IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED ON THE ROAD TO THE DEALERSHIP I COULD HAVE CRASHED OVER THE STEEP TERRAIN.
TRANSMISSION LEAD FRAME FAILING AND SUDDENLY DOWN SHIFTING INTO FIRST GEAR ONLY AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 50MPH. I HAVE HAD THE TRUCK TAKEN TO DON RICH FORD FOR SERVICE TWICE NOW AND THEY STILL HAVE NOT REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER. I ALSO CONTACTED FORD A FEW TIMES AND I AM TOLD THE MILEAGE COVERAGE IS OUT NOW. THIS HAPPENED PRIOR TO THE MILEAGE GOING OVER THE 150,000 AND NOW I'M AROUND 191,000 AND CAN NOT GET A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN ADDRESSED THAT WAS HAVING THE ISSUES PRIOR. THEY STATED NO CODES PRESENT BUT IT IS AN INTERMITTENT ISSUE AND HAS HAPPENED 4 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS. EACH TIME I WAS VERY CLOSE TO HITTING OTHER VEHICLES AND OR GUARD RAILS. I DON'T KNOW HOW ELSE TO GET FORD TO ADDRESS THIS KNOWN ISSUE INSTEAD OF AVOIDING IT.
THE REAR DEFROSTER FAILS WHICH CAUSES THE HEATED SIDE VIEW MIRRORS TO CEASE WORKING AS THEY ARE ON THE SAME CIRCUIT OR WIRED IN SEQUENCE. THIS CAUSES AN UNSAFE DRIVING VISIBILITY AND SHOULD BE WORKING CORRECTLY. THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH ALL 2009-2014 F-150'S AND SHOULD BE A RECALL TO BE CORRECTED. THE ISSUE CAN HAPPEN AT ANYTIME IN THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE.
I COMPLETED RECALL... SOFTWARE PROBLEM WHICH CAUSES TRANSMISSION TO SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR WHICH COULD RESULT IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND CAUSE WRECK

MY F150 WOULD JUMP OUT OF GEAR AT RANDOM TIME, I CAN BE TURNING ON TO THE HIGHWAY OR JUST BEEN RIDING ALONG THEN THE NEXT THING YOU KNOW IM BEING JERKED WITH OTHER VEHICLES AROUND ME. THE ELECTRIC VACUUM PUMP FOR THE BRAKES IS MAKING A LOUD BUZZING NOISE. FORD SAYS THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND IT ISN'T A PROBLEM. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS JUST THE BEGINNING OF THE BRAKES GOING OUT. ALTHOUGH, THERE IS NOT A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. I'M NOT SURE HOW THERE CAN'T BE A RECALL IF THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE IN ALL 2011 AND 2012 FORD F150S.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER, INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NO RECALL WAS SUBJECTED TO THE VIN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000. VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I DID RECEIVE THE DAY BEFORE A WARNING STATING TO HAVE MY ADVANCEDTRAC SYSTEM SERVICED. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE CLOSEST TIRE AND BRAKE SERVICE CENTER THAT I WAS ALREADY SCHEDULE TO DO AN ALIGNMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK WAS IN ALIGNMENT BUT THEY SUSPECTED I COULD HAVE A STEERING PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE STEERING GEAR AND THE COST WOULD BE 1900.00 DOLLARS. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND IT IS WELL DOCUMENTED THAT FORD HAS HAD MULTIPLE RECALLS ON THIS TYPE OF POWER STEERING SYSTEMS. IT IS VERY UNSAFE. I CALLED THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY AND WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.
HARD POWER STEERING AND TRACTION CONTROL FAULTS A YEAR OR SO AGO. HAD TO REPROGRAM CONTROL UNIT. STARTED GETTING POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULTS TODAY. STEERING WENT OUT AT HIGH SPEED ON INTERSTATE. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.

The contact stated shortly after the vehicle was serviced while driving 50 mph, the vehicle downshifted independently. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The contact shifted to neutral and back to drive before driving back to his destination. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT SIMILAR VEHICLES WERE REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V248000 (POWER TRAIN) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE FREE REPAIR SINCE THE MILEAGE WAS EXCEEDED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
THE WRENCH SYMBOL COMES ON AND THE DIGITAL INSTRUMENT SCREEN GOES BLANK AND THE TRANSMISSION EITHER GETS STUCK IN 5TH GEAR OR WILL START OFF IN 3RD AND ONLY SHIFT THROUGH 5TH GEAR. YOU CAN TURN THE TRUCK OFF AND RESTART IT AND MOST OF THE TIME IT WILL RESET AND START OFF IN FIRST AND THE SCREEN WILL RETURN TO NORMAL. UNUSUALLY WHEN THIS OCCURS WHEN STARTING TO DRIVE AGAIN IT WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF FIRST GEAR AND AT THIS TIME YOU HAVE TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND RECONNECT AFTER 15 SECONDS TO REGAIN MOBILITY. I HAVE REPLACED THE PCM TO NO AVAIL. THE NEW PCM IS REGISTERING A CODE NOW FOR THE OUTPUT SHAFT SPEED SENSOR WHICH HAS HAD A RECALL IN OTHER 2011-12 F150 MODELS. THROUGH RESEARCH AND CONVERSATIONS ON FORD TRUCK FORUM'S I HAVE LEARNED A LOT OF OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE.
MY TRUCK WAS PART OF FORD'S RECALL FOR THE LEAD FRAME SPEED SENSOR. THIS IS WHERE THE TRUCK WILL DOWN SHIFT INTO FIRST GEAR WITHOUT WARNING. I GOT THE PCM REPROGRAMMED - WHICH THEY CONSIDERED A SAFETY RECALL SINCE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE TRUCK FROM DOWNSHIFTING IF IT LOST THE TRANSMISSION SPEED READING. THE WARRANTY EXTENSION TO REPLACE PARTS WAS NOT CONSIDERED A SAFETY RECALL, BUT A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION WARRANTY EXTENSION - BECAUSE THE REPROGRAM WAS SUPPOSEDLY GOING TO COVER THE TRULY UNSAFE ASPECT BY PREVENTING A DOWNSHIFT. BUT THAT OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T FIX THE ISSUE. I THINK THE PARTS REPLACEMENT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RECALL TOO (NOT SUBJECT TO WARRANTY LIMITS). I HAD TO REPLACE THE PART BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXTENSION WAS ONLY FOR 150,000 MILES, MY TRUCK HAD 178,000 AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THIS REPAIR COST ME OVER 1200 DOLLARS. THEY DO A SAFETY RECALL TO REPROGRAM, CORRECTLY SAY IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. THEN THEY COME OUT AND SAY OH, IT WORKS BETTER IF WE REPLACE THE PARTS, BUT SOMEHOW GET AWAY WITH SAYING THAT NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, JUST OFFER A LONGER WARRANTY? *JS
