The gasses inside the gas tank are building up and causing a farting noise.
This is a follow up to a complaint I made on 7-25-2022. Ref# 114-75779. My truck will not start sometimes or it will just shut off while driving. I have searched online and found that the fuel pump fuse in the distribution box is being burned. I have had it checked by two Ford mechanics and they both have confirmed that is the issue. My truck has just shut off 4 times in the last two weeks while driving without warning. The first time was July 22, the next was July 24, 2022. I've been very fortunate to avoid an accident so far. When this happens, I have to replace the fuse before it will restart, so I'm having to keep a pack of fuses with me at all times.The earliest any dealer close can repair it is August 12. This SHOULD be a safety recall with the vehicle just shutting off with no warning at all. Ford makes the fuse relocation kit to fix this issue, so it us a known problem. I'm very concerned as to why this hasn't been a safety recall, seeing the symptoms that are listed in the fuse relocation kit sold by Ford. Today, August 02, my truck shut off twice while driving in traffic and the fuel pump fuse slot was very hot and smoking. I replaced the fuse so I could get it out of the roadway and not cause an accident.
Vehicle shut off while driving approx 30 mph making a slight right hand turn. Thus losing all throttle, power steering and power brakes. Vehicle error message is low oil pressure but oil level is checked out to be good. Based on online research the culprit is an overheated fuel pump fuse and a very common issue.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO START THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE CONTACT BECAME AWARE THAT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE WAS MELTED WHILE INSPECTING THE FUSE PANEL. EPIC FORD LOCATED AT 5200 EVERGREEN WAY, EVERETT, WA 98203, (425) 353-7171, WAS CONTACTED BY PHONE AND WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE FUSE WAS REPLACED BY THE CONTACT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
TRUCK LOST POWER DUE TO A PROBLEM WITH THE FUEL PUMP FUSE LOCATION

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FUEL PUMP FUSE WAS REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT CONTACTED. WAS DRIVING AND WOULD LOOSE POWER AND SLOW WAY DOWN THEN POWER WOULD COME BACK. COULD GET BACK TO HIGHWAY SPEED THEN LOOSE POWER AGAIN. I WAD ABLE TO GET HOME. ONCE I STOPPED ENGINE IT WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD TOWED TO FORD DEALER FOR REPAIRS. WAS TOLD IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE THAT THE FUSE IS TOO SMALL AND HAS TO BE REWIRED. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW AND SAFETY ISSUE. FORD SHOULD HAVE TO RECALL AND FIX IT. THIS COST ME $430 TO HAVE REPAIRED.
WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY DOWNSHIFTED TO FIRST GEAR ON ITS OWN CAUSING THE TIRE TO LOCK UP PUTTING ME INTO A SKID ON THE HIGHWAY PULLED OVER RESTARTED VEHICLE THEN WAS STUCK IN 5TH GEAR AND WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. SHUT OFF VEHICLE AND RETURNED TO NORMAL THEN HAPPENED AGAIN THE NEXT DAY!
MY TRUCK IS SPUTTERING AT FULL THROTTLE AND THROWING A FLASHING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT IS NOW STAYING ON. IT HAPPENED ON A HIGHWAY DURING HARD ACCELERATION
MY TRUCK WOULD LOSE POWER AT TIMES THEN WOULD NOT START. DEALER ADVISED THE FUSE TO THE FUEL RELAY PUMP WAS BURNED AND NEEDED TO BE BYPASSED TO A LARGER FUSE BECAUSE THE FUSE INSTALLED BY THE MANUFACTURE IS TOO SMALL. THIS REPAIR COST ME $411. DEALER ADVISED THIS WAS A DEFECT FROM MANUFACTURE AND WAS COMMON IN THE 2012 YEAR MODEL. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE AND LOCATED MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT VEHICLES LOSING POWER ON THE HIGHWAYS AND ALMOST INVOLVED IN COLLISIONS DUE TO THE FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. I'M SURE THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS AND ACCIDENTS THAT CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE DEFECT WHICH CAUSES FUEL DISRUPTION.
WHILE TRYING TO TURN INTO TRAFFIC LOST ALL POWER TO ACCELERATE AND STAYED IN FIRST GEAR. WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE DROPS INTO LOWER GEARS WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I STOPED DRIVING THIS VEHICLE DUE TO MY FAMILY'S SAFETY BEING JEOPARDIZED. I DROPPED THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED IT IS DUE TO A LEAD ASSEMBLY TO THE TRANSMISSION. THE REPAIRS WOULD BE OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS. WHILE RESEARCHING I HAVE NOTICED MULTIPLE F-150 WITH MY EGINE (3.5 ECOBOOST ) HAVE HAD THIS SAFETY ISSUE. I WAS INFORMED BY FORD TO CONTACT YOU AND REPORT THE ISSUE.

THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL MODULE WIRES MELTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPLACED. DRIVING TRUCK AT 65 PLUS MILES PER HOUR ON INTERSTATE AND VEHICLE STALLED OUT LOST POWER STEERING AND BRAKES AND WAS TOO CLOSE TO HAVING AN ACCIDENT. LATER FOUND OUT THAT FUSE 27 HAD MELTED AND LOST ALL FUEL PUMP PRESSURE.
THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON 3 TIMES AND MY TRUCK DROPPED SPEED TO WHAT FORD CALLS "LIMP HOME MODE" WHICH IS ROUGH IDLE. WHEN THE TRUCK IS RESTARTED, IT RUNS FINE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP REPORTED THAT MY THROTTLE BOX NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $388. THE TRUCK HAS 50,000 MILES ON IT AND OUT OF WARRANTY (NOT COVERED UNDER POWER TRAIN). THEY ALSO THEN TOLD ME I SHOULD DO A FUSE RELOCATION BECAUSE ITS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE BUT ITS NOT A RECALL. THE TOTAL COST WOULD BE $750+ I GUESS I'LL ROLE THE DICE ON THE SECOND PART SINCE ITS NOT A TOTAL FAILURE YET.
VEHICLE IS A 2012 FORD F150 3.5L V6 ECOBOOST. VEHICLE HAD A FULL TANK OF GAS (30 GAL TANK). VEHICLE GAS GAUGE BEGAN TO DROP QUICKLY. COMPARED TO TRIP COUNTER GALLONS USED, VEHICLE SHOWED EMPTY TAG AFTER ONLY USING 9.2 GALLONS. UPON FILLING GAS AND PUMP ENTERING FILL HOLE, PRESSURE FROM THE TANK WAS RELEASED MORE SO THAN ANY OTHER TIME. GAS GAUGE REPEATED SAME ISSUE UPON ADDING THE 9.2 GALLONS TO FILL THE TANK AGAIN. GAUGE ONCE AGAIN SHOWED EMPTY WHEN APPROX 10 GALLONS WERE USED.
THE TRUCK IS EQUIPPED WITH A CAP LESS FILLER SYSTEM FOR THE FUEL FILLER. THE MECHANISM THAT CONTROLS THIS HAS FAILED LEAVING THE FUEL FILLER DOOR TO NOT CLOSE PROPERLY AND IT FLAPS IN THE BREEZE AS YOU ARE DRIVING. THIS LEAVES THE GAS LINE TO THE TANK EXPOSED AND IS CERTAINLY A SAFETY ISSUE. NORMALLY FORD HAS A 36MO/ 36000 WARRANTY AND ON THIS TRUCK THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OF 100000 MILES BUT WHEN CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE THEY SAID THIS ISN'T COVERED AND THERE WOULD BE A CHARGE FOR REPAIRING IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED AND THEY SHOULD BE ADDRESSING IT AS THIS HAS BECOME STANDARD ON ALL OF THEIR VEHICLES.
I WAS ATTEMPTING TO APPROACH TRAFFIC ONTO THE INTERSTATE. I WAS APPROACHING HIGHWAY SPEEDS AT APPROXIMATELY 65MPH AND LOSS POWER TO THE VEHICLE. I HAD TO SWERVE ONTO THE MEDIAN TO AVOID A COLLISION WITH AN 18 WHEELER. IT WAS RAINING AT THE TIME. *TR
THE VEHICLE DECELERATED WHEN I WAS MERGING ONTO TWO LANES OF A INTERSTATE FROM A TWO LANE ON RAMP. I WAS IN THE LEFT LANE OF THE ON RAMP AND HAD A VEHICLE ON MY RIGHT AND TWO SEMIS IN THE INTERSTATE LANES. I HAD BEEN ON THE ROAD ABOUT 45 MINUTES IN A LIGHT RAIN THE WHOLE TIME. I TRIED TO ACCELERATE TO GET OUT OF THE WEDGE AND GET ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND THE ENGINE BEGAN EXTREME SPUTTERING AND DECELERATING. I HAD TO HIT THE BRAKES TO AVOID BEING SANDWICHED BETWEEN THE VEHICLE ON MY RIGHT AND THE TWO SEMIS. I HAVE SEEN FORD'S REPORT STATING IT ONLY LASTS FOR SECONDS AND THE VEHICLE WILL ACCELERATE. THAT IS INCORRECT, DUE TO THE EXTREME SPUTTERING, MY VEHICLE HAD TO DECELERATE AND IT DID NOT CLEAR UP FOR A LEAST 2 TO 3 MILES. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THAT THE NHTSA HAS DROPPED THE CASE. I CAN ONLY TELL YOU THAT THIS WAS A VERY NEAR MISS FOR BOTH THE NHTSA AND FORD WITH 3 PEOPLE IN VEHICLE. I ALSO SEE THAT FOR HAS TOLD THE NHTSA THAT THEY HAVE REPAIRED ALL THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. REALLY. I JUST GOT MIND FIXED TODAY AND THAT WAS AFTER IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE FIXED YESTERDAY BUT THE DEALERSHIP DIDN'T PUT THE BOTTOM SHIELD ON BECAUSE THEY THOUGHT IT WASN'T SUPPOSED TO BE PUT ON MY VEHICLE. I THINK THE NHTSA HAS PUT ITSELF IN A BAD POSITION BY SIDING ON THIS ISSUE WITH FORD. *TR
