The contact owns a 2012 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, there was an abnormal vibration in the steering wheel; after which the driver's side front wheel detached and struck truck in the far-left lane. The contact was able to coast to the shoulder of the roadway; however, there was extensive damage to the driver's side brake caliper and rotor. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.
Unable to perform tire rotation due to swollen lug nuts. Not sure what could cause this issue as all tire changes and tire rotations are performed by authorized service departments.
Lug nuts bulging/rusting under chrome coating. Potential for lug nut failure/wheel coming off vehicle while driving. Yes, problem was found by independent service center. It has not been inspected. No warnings.
275/60/20 tire size. Driving home the other night started noticing my truck felt wobbly. Thought it was just the road until the truck started violently shaking at around 60mph. VIOLENTLY shaking. Pulled off immediately and looked at the front, sides, rear end, etc. Checked the tires, rear passenger side was stolen in 1 spot, and around that spot in a very isolated area the tire was completely bald and had a large lump in it. Other 3 tires seem ok right now. Contacted manufacturer who directed me to fill out a form on their website to "try for a replacement.". Can't find receipts from purchase so that's no good. Took to local mechanic/tire shop who stated that the "tread separated from the tire.". Separation is approximately 1 foot long and 2/3 of the tire width. Bald spot runs along this lump/separation.
Lug nut for wheel have swelled, unable to remove them with correct socket. Will need to replace all OEM lug nuts
AFTER SERVICE ON 04/12/2022, MY RECEIPT UNDER COMMENTS SAID,"REP LUG NUTS". THAT'S ALL. 44,286 MILES AT THAT TIME. I TOOK F-150 FOR OIL CHANGE & TIRE ROTATION AGAIN ON 2/22/2023, WITH 47,882 MILES ON TRUCK. SERVICE RECEIPT SAID THEY DID NOT ROTATE TIRES. I ASKED WHY, AND I WAS TOLD "BECAUSE LUG NUTS ARE WORN". I TOLD SERVICE MANAGER THAT YOU GUYS ARE THE ONLY ONES TO HAVE EVER REMOVED THE LUG NUTS, WHY ARE THEY BAD?" HE REPLIED, "BETWEEN YOU AND ME, FORD USED CHEAP LUG NUTS"......SO, ONLY 47,882 MILES ON MY TRUCK, LUG NUT REMOVAL ONLY DONE BY FORD, AND i HAVE TO REPLACE LUG NUTS. PLUS, THEY STILL CHARGED ME FULL PRICE FOR MY SERVICE OF OIL CHANGE AND TIRE ROTATION. FORD SHOULD REPLACE THE LUG NUTS AND ROTATE MY TIRES FOR FREE.
I was told at the dealership they would not do tire rotation because the lug nuts were swollen all 24 needed to be replaced. I have read this is a common problem. Looks like ford should do something about this problem.
Goodyear wrangler kevlar LT 275/65R18 Bought 4 from Sullivan tire in bridgewater ma in 2019. Has normal average treadwear. Noticed my drivers side front tire kept losing air didn't notice any nails so i removed for inspection and noticed the inside sidewall peeling apart. I took pictures and took it into Sullivan where they tried to say it was my fault due to tire shine. Im still dealing with sullivan I wanted to report because this can kill somebody.
ALL OF THE LUG NUTS THAT ARE ORIGINALLY SUPPLIED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED , EVENTUALLY SWELL UP AND WHEN A FLAT TIRE OCCURS , MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO USE THE SUPPLIED TOOL TO REMOVE THEM TO REPAIR THE FLAT TIRE.

I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 95 IN IDAHO; I BEGAN TO FEEL A VIBRATION IN THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK; IT WAS WORST WHEN SLOWING DOWN. I PULLED OVER STARTED LOOKING FOR POSSIBLE ISSUES, UPON TROUBLESHOOTING I NOTICED 5 OF THE 6 WHEEL LUGS WERE FINGER LOOSE, WHICH I FOUND STRANGE AND PUZZLING, ANYWAY I HAD TO TIGHTEN THEM AND GOT THE OEM LUG WRENCH FROM THE TRUCK; THE LUG WRENCH DIDN'T FIT THE LUG NUTS; IT WAS TOO SMALL. FORD DIDN'T INCLUDE THE RIGHT SIZE LUG WRENCH WHEN MANUFACTURING THE TRUCK. SECOND ISSUE: THE LUG NUTS HAVE A FAUX CHROME COVER THAT CAN'T BE REMOVED WITHOUT BREAKING IT; THESE FAUX COVERS GET WORN OVER TIME WITH PROPER MAINTENANCE OF ROTATING TIRES, THUS NOT PERMITTING THE 150LBS OF TORQUE THAT IS REQUIRED BY THE FORD OWNERS MANUAL. UPON GOING TO A MECHANIC THEY DIDN'T BELIEVE ME THAT SO MUCH TORQUE WAS REQUIRED UNTIL I SHOWED THEM; THEY THEN ATTEMPTED TO TIGHTEN OR ENSURE ALL LUG NUTS HAD THIS AMOUNT OF TORQUE, WELL A NUMBER OF THESE FAUX LUG NUTS WOULDN'T PERMIT 150LBS OF TORQUE BECAUSE THEY WOULD SLIP AROUND THE LUG UNDERNEATH; THESE FAUX COVERS HAD TO BE BROKEN OFF TO TIGHTEN TO THE PROPER TORQUE. OF NOTE: THE OEM LUG WRENCH DOES FIT THE LUG NUTS ONCE THESE FAUX COVERS ARE BROKEN OFF. THESE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERNS.

UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE SIDEWALL WAS CRACKED AS WELL AS THE OTHER TIRES. THE TIRES WERE TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TIRE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,299 AND THE APPROXIMATE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000.

I WAS TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY 2 IN WASHINGTON STATE, AT 60 MPH WHEN MY FORD F150 FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT CAUSING THE TRUCK TO PULL TOWARD THE DITCH. NO ONE WAS HURT. I CHANGED MY TIRE AND CONTACTED THE TIRE COMPANY WHERE THE WARRANTY WOULD BE HONORED. I HAD 30,000 MILES ON A 2 YEAR OLD TRUCK. I THOUGHT SOMETHING WOULD BE DONE ABOUT IT BUT NOTHING WAS. I AM CONCERN ABOUT MY REMAINING TIRES I HAVE ON MY TRUCK.
PURCHASED A NEW 2012 F150 WITH MICHELIN LTX A/T2 TIRES 12000 MILES AND I NOTICED THAT THEY WERE DRY ROT BETWEEN THE TREAD LUGS TOOK BACK TO DEALER HAD THEM REPLACED NOW AROUND 12000 MI. LATER HAVE SAME PROBLEM DRY ROT CRACKING BETWEEN LUGS AND ON SIDEWALL I BELIEVE THIS TIRE HAS A PROBLEM AND MICHELIN NEEDS TO RECALL THEM BEFORE SOME INNOCENT PERSON IS INJURED OR KILLED. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE SPARE TIRE. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED IT WASN'T UNTIL HE HAD A FLAT TIRE, THAT HE WAS INTRODUCED TO THE TERM FULL-SIZE DIS-SIMILAR SPARE AND THE RESTRICTIONS FORD STIPULATED. DRIVING SPEED, TOWING A TRAILER, OR EVEN WASHING THE VEHICLE WITH THE SPARE ON IT IN A COMMERCIAL WASH, WOULD VIOLATE THE WARRANTY, HE PAID FOR. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY THE TIRE TECHNICIAN, THE RADIUS OF THE ORIGINAL TIRES WERE 39,9 INCHES AND THE RADIUS OF THE DIS-SIMILAR SPARE WAS 39.1 INCHES. FURTHER, THAT PROLONGED USE OF THE SPARE COULD AND MOST PROBABLY WOULD AFFECT THE MECHANICAL OPERATION OF THE TRANSFER CASE.*JB
I HAVE A 2012 FORD F150 XLT CREWCAB. WAS DRIVING AND AS I APPROACHED MY TURN, I SLOWED DOWN AND HEARD A LOUD NOISE THAT SOUNDED LIKE YOU WERE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY RUMBLESTRIP. I PULLED OFF AND MY TRUCK FELT LIKE IT DROPPED DOWN IN THE BACK SO I THOUGHT I HAD A FLAT TIRE. WHEN I INSPECTED IT, THE TIRE WAS GONE ON THE REAR OF THE TRUCK AND ALL I SAW WAS THE BRAKES AND LUG NUTS THAT LOOKED SHEARED OFF. THE TIRE WAS LAYING OVER A LITTLE WAYS ON A GRASSY HILL. THERE WAS NO SHIMMING TO THE TRUCK PRIOR TO THE TIRE FLYING OFF. THE TRUCK WAS DRIVING SMOOTHLY LIKE ALWAYS. DIDN'T KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. THE LAST TIME THE TIRES HAVE HAD ANYTHING DONE TO THEM WERE 2 MONTHS AGO. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT IT MIGHT BE A LUG NUT ISSUE THAT FORD MAY NEED TO INVESTIGATE.
