The contact owns a 2015 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH and attempting to activate the right turn signal, the indicator failed to operate as intended. Upon inspecting the vehicle, the contact became aware of water inside the taillight assembly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was determined that the taillight assembly needed to be replaced due to condensation. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
It's the same issue as Recall Notice 22S02/NHTSA Recall 22v011. The replacement part is MR3Z-7583-A 1X ($2-$5 part with 30 second install), but they do not show it under parts for my truck, they would prefer to sell me the whole brake pedal assembly ($50+ part and labor probably diagnosis charge in addition to part replacement). The part becomes brittle and breaks. This caused dead battery, 5 hours from home, due to lights staying on, allowed me to start and put truck into gear without touching the brake, lost acceleration between 45 & 50 mph, cruise control would not turn on and message presents that hill assist is not available.
LED headlamps become too dim to drive at night. 1. Dealerships may recommend headlamp unit replacement (around $3000USD). 2. However, uniform dimness in both lamps indicates an upstream electrical issue. 3. Recent service inspection (Invoice #[XXX] at AutoNation Ford in Bellevue, WA) indicated that all existing diagnostic procedures to inspect voltage and battery health came up negative, but they have no process to diagnose the control unit or measure the candle output of the headlamp projectors. 4. Case #[XXX] has been opened up with Ford to ask engineering to develop a procedure to diagnose, repair, and potentially issue a recall with the part. I don’t know if this question qualifies in this section but I’m just trying to find out why my 12v outlets in my truck are not working and also the plug-in for my trailer hitch, neither of them are working. To the best of my knowledge I’ve checked fuses and couldn’t see anything blown. Thank you
DRIVE IN THE INTERSTATE I FELT SOMETHING TAP MY SHOE AND AT THE SAME TIME CRUISE CONTROL DEACTIVATED AND THE HILL ASSIST WARNING LIGHT COME ON. I THEN TRIED TO ACCELERATE AND FOR A SECOND THERE NOTHING HAPPENED AND THEN ACCELERATION CAME BACK ON AND IT WOULD CUT OUT LIKE TRACTION CONTROL IS KICKING IN. PULLED OVER ON TO THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AND FOUND A BROKEN PLASTIC PIN LOOKS LIKE A BODY PANEL PIN ON THE FLOORMATT. ME BEING A MECHANIC SOMETHING TOLD ME TO LOOK AT MY BRAKE LIGHT TO SEE IF THERE BEING ACTIVATED WITH NO PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL . THE LIGHTS WERE ON TELLING ME THAT THIS PIN HAD TO DO SOMETHING WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH. ONCE I LOOKED UNDER THE DASH, I DID FIND THAT THIS PIN CAME FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL AND WAS NO LONGER PUSHING ON THE BRAKE SWITCH AND THAT'S WHAT ACTUALLY CAUSE MY CRUISE CONTROL TO SHUT OFF AND TRACTION CONTROL KICK IN AS I WERE DRIVING ON INNERSTATE. I WAS ABLE TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE ISSUE WAS A BODY PANEL PIN THAT I BY LOCK HAD IN MY GLOVE BOX FROM OTHER PROJECTS AND WAS ABLE TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD AND MAKE IT HOME .THE ISSUE IS THE THIS ORIGINAL PLASTIC PIECE IS A CERTAIN THICKNESS THAT IF YOU REPLACE IT WITH A THINNER PIECE YOU STILL HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND IF YOU GET THIS TO THICK YOU HAVE TO PUSH HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO ACTIVATE THE BRAKE LIGHTS AND DEACTIVATE CROUSE CONTROL, AND THAT'S WERE IT CAN GET SCARY GOING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO DEACTIVATE THE CROUSE CONNECTOR. SO I CALL THE LOCAL FORD PARTS STORE AND THE ISSUE IS THAT THIS PLASTIC PIN CAN NOT BE PURCHASED BY ITSELF AND THAT THIS PIN HAS TO BE PURCHASED WITH A $150 PEDAL. SO I LOOKED ON THE INTERNET TO SEE IF MAYBE THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE AND I FOUND MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS OF THE SAME ISSUE AND NO RECALL FORM FORD FOR THIS ISSUE WITCH IN MY OPINION IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE. 2015 F-150 WITH 76000 MILES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HER MIDDLE BRAKE LIGHT LOCATED IN THE CENTER OF THE REAR WINDOW HAD STARTED TO MELT DUE TO THE BULB OVERHEATING INSIDE THE BRAKE LIGHT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEADLINER HAD BEEN DAMAGED DUE TO THE MELTING BRAKE LIGHT. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO KENNY ROSS FORD(104 BLACK HILL RD, ADAMSBURG, PA 15611) WHERE SHE WAS INFORMED THAT THEY COULD ONLY REPLACE THE LIGHT BULB WITH THE SAME TYPE OF LIGHTBULB THAT WAS ORIGINALLY PLACED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHERE THEY GAVE HER A CASE NUMBER, THEY OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE HAD YET TO BE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 31,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL; THEREFORE, THE CONTACT MAY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER A WARRANTY AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
SINCE JUNE 2018 I BEGAN TO NOTICE A SMELL INSIDE THE CABIN OF MY TRUCK. THE SMELL CAN BE DESCRIBED AS A WET GYM SOCK AND SEEMED TO COME AROUND WHEN I USED THE A/C. I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF THEY COULD LOCATE THE SOURCE OF THE SMELL. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS COMING FROM MY A/C UNIT AND CHECKED THE DRAIN HOSE AND FOUND NOTHING, BUT SAID IT WAS PROBABLY MILDEW IN THE HOUSE. THEY SPRAYED THE HOSE WITH A DISINFECTANT AND IT SEEMED TO STOP THE ODOR. IN AUGUST THE SMELL RETURNED AND I BEGAN TO NOTICE THAT THE SMELL WAS VERY STRONG WHEN RUNNING THE A/C WHEN IT WAS RAINING OR AFTER IT HAD JUST RAINED. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP AGAIN AND TOLD THEM WAS I WAS NOTICING AND ASKED IF THAT WOULD HELP PINPOINT THE CAUSE. THEY RELATED THEY WOULD LOOK INTO IT AND EVENTUALLY CALLED IN SEPTEMBER AND SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BUT WANTED TO VEHICLE. I AGAIN TOOK THE TRUCK INTO FORD WHO FINALLY LOCATED THE PROBLEM, THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THE BRAKE LIGHT WAS ALLOWING WATER TO GET IN AND TRAVEL INTO THE PLASTIC TUBE THAT GOES INTO MY VEHICLE AND DOWN TO THE REAR RIGHT SEAT. THE PLASTIC TUBE HOLD THE WIRING FOR THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT. THE TECHNICIAN RELATED THAT WHEN HE FELT UNDERNEATH THE FLOOR MY CARPET WAS SOAKED. THEY EVENTUALLY PEELED BACK MY CARPET AND CLEANED IT UP USING A DEHUMIDIFIER AND DETAILING SERVICES. THEY THEN REPLACED THE THIRD BRAKE. NONE OF THE ABOVE WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND HAD TO PAY ALL COSTS THOUGH IT SOUNDS TO ME THAT THE 2015 FORD HAS THE SAME THIRD BRAKE LIGHT ISSUE AS THE 2009 FORD. MY SERVICE MANAGER RELATED THAT THEY HAVE BEEN RECEIVING MULTIPLE CALLS REGARDING SAME ISSUE BEING CAUSED BY THE THIRD BRAKE LIGHT OR SUNROOF IN F150S.
TRUCK HAS LED TAIL LIGHTS WHICH PRODUCE POOR ILLUMINATION ESPECIALLY IN REDUCED VISIBILITY DRIVING CONDITIONS. OTHER DRIVERS REPORT THEY CAN BARELY SEE MY TRUCK WHEN DRIVING IN RAIN OR SNOW. BRAKE/TURN LIGHTS ARE FINE, IT IS JUST THE REAR TAIL LIGHTS THAT ARE A SAFETY ISSUE.
ANY MODERN VEHICLE WITH A "VIRTUAL GAUGE CLUSTER" (IE NO ACTUAL GAUGES W/ BACKLIGHT) AUTOMATICALLY HAS THE GAUGE CLUSTER LIT UP. THIS POSES FATAL CONSEQUENCES AT NIGHT WHEN THE DRIVER DOESN'T REALIZE THAT THEIR HEADLIGHTS AREN'T ON, BECAUSE THEIR GAUGE CLUSTER IS ALREADY PRE-ILLUMINATED. I HAVE NEARLY BEEN RUN OVER THREE TIMES BY OTHER CARS DRIVING WITHOUT THEIR HEADLIGHTS ON, BUT WITH A BRIGHT VIRTUAL GAUGE CLUSTER. VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS NEED TO FIND A WAY TO USE AMBIENT-LIGHT-SENSORS TO TURN THE GAUGE CLUSTER LIGHTING OFF IN LOW LIGHT SITUATIONS, SO THAT IT PROMPTS THE DRIVER TO TURN THE HEADLIGHTS ON IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO READ THE GAUGES....AND NOT HIT ANY PEDESTRIANS, BICYCLISTS, OR OTHER VEHICLES.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS INCREDIBLY DIM. THE FOG LIGHTS APPEAR TO PUT OUT MORE LIGHT THAN THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT THE HEADLIGHTS WEREN'T ON THEY WERE SO DIM. AT 60 MPH, THE DRIVER IS OVER DRIVING THE AMOUNT OF LIGHT COMING FROM THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS. VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE F150MAT NIGHT! I CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALER TO ASK IF THERE ARE ANY BRIGHTER BULBS AND THEY SAID NO AND TO LOOK AT AFTER MARKET PRODUCTS. HOWEVER, AFTER SPENDING OVER $50,000 FOR A NEW TRUCK, FORD SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR GETTING THE HEADLIGHTS TO WORK PROPERLY. *TR
LATELY I HAVE BEEN DOING MORE DRIVING AT NIGHT AND I HAVE FOUND WHEN I AM BEHIND A NEW F150 THE RUNNING LIGHTS ARE VERY HARD TO SEE. ALL YOU CAN SEE FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR IS A HINT OF RED A THE BOTTOM AND TOP OF THE LIGHT, UNLESS YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE CAR FROM A SIDE ANGLE THE REAR RUNNING LIGHTS ARE PRETTY MUCH USELESS. I ALMOST HIT A BLACK F150 THE OTHER DAY WHEN IT WAS RAINING HARD, BECAUSE I COULDN'T SEE ITS RUNNING LIGHTS. THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED IMMEDIATELY WEATHER FORD ADDS A CENTER LIGHT UNDER THE TAILGATE OR RECALLS THESE LENSES FOR SAFETY.
