Truck’s powertrain control system detected an issue with the transmission shift solenoids not responding as expected - causing the transmission and drive functions to fail. The failure resulted in my transmission being shot - and the need for a full transmission rebuild. My safety was put at risk because the truck lost complete loss of driveability, and ability for shiting of gears. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer's agent, Holman Ford of Maple Shade, NJ. I received a number of warning alerts from the Ford Pass system beginning on March 24, 2023. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms prior to the failure.
Vehicle is a pickup truck. Tailgate has opened up multiple times while driving (at least three times now in 3 months of moderate driving of approximately 30 miles per day). It does not seem to be related to whether or not the tailgate is locked or not or the weather. Vehicle does *not* have an electronic/automatic tailgate open feature. It is a manual release only. I believe that is could be associated with hitting bumps in the road, but have been unable to confirm this theory yet. Please note the 2018 model has similar latch parts for the tailgate and HAS been recalled.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while the vehicle was at a complete stop at a traffic light, the vehicle shut off inadvertently. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continued driving. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle the following day, the transmission gear position indicator was not illuminated. Additionally, the contact stated that the transmission was not shifting smoothly while driving. The contact stated that the vehicle shut off for a second time while at a complete stop. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed at his expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V053000 (Power Train, Electrical System). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Wednesday. 22 March 2023: While driving on the Hwy 83 By-Pass accelerating up an incline, the F150 shifted from 6th gear to 3rd gear. It did not downshift to 5th or 4th. It went directly from 6th to 3rd gear. When it did this the truck went from 55 mph to skidding the rear tires (almost a complete stop) before the truck moved forward in 3rd gear. During this immediate deceleration instance, (where my sternum bounced off the seat belt) the "dummy light" Wrench icon appeared as well as prompts on the dashboard indicating there were faults with Blind Spot System and Cross Traffic System. I pulled over to the side of the road and shut the vehicle off. Due to the immediate deceleration and loss of traction with the road surface, if there would have been someone following behind me or if the roads were icy, there would have been an accident for sure. I (as well as the Ford dealership) were able to pull scan codes P1702 and P0706 (both codes are transmission faults) that historically directly correlate with a faulty Molded Lead Frame. The Molded Lead Frame is currently a Ford Recall for 2011-2013 Ford F150 vehicles. Although, this should extend to 2014 and above vehicles as they use the same 6R80 six-speed transmission. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to this incident that would have indicated any transmission faults or issues. The dealership has confirmed the Molded Lead Frame is the cause of the erratic shifting.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V236000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving in the snow at slow speeds, the brake pedal was depressed but traveled down to the floorboard, and the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The contact stated that several warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer refused to diagnose the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the brake hose had failed and leaked brake fluid. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the failure persisted. The contact stated there was an abnormal sound coming from underneath the driver's side of the vehicle. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
F150 will not shift out of gears. Example, stays in 1st gear, regardless of speed. Ford dealer said it was a "Molded Leadframe" transmission problem at first, then decided to "reprogram" the computer to eliminate the shifting problem. Problem returned a few weeks later. Now shifts immediately into 7th gear (instead of 1st) and stays in that gear only. Ford dealer is not able to acquire the "molded lead frame" part to repair my vehicle. This problem was subject to an earlier year recalled which does not cover my 2017 vehicle.
While driving on the interstate the vehicle transmission slipped and lost 8 gears. The vehicle was only able to run with 5th and 9th gear. At this time the wrench warning light appeared on the dash, I checked the owner's manual, which said powertrain failure take it to the dealer. It has been inspected and confirmed by the dealer that the transmission needs to be replaced.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the vehicle jerked with a grinding sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 116,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the front driver's side seat belt was stuck and inoperable. The dealer was made aware of the failure and determined that the front driver's side seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
The contact's boss owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that over a year ago the vehicle was taken to the dealer due to the driver’s side air bag developing a crack over the steering wheel label. Additionally, the contact stated that after the vehicle was started, an alarm symbol indicating “Park Aid” was illuminated on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air bag needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was notified of the failure however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that the failure was not covered under warranty. The contact was advised to call the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was approximately 67,000.
This F150 needs cam phasers replaced (local Ford dealer has diagnosed the problem) and there is a recall on other 2017 F150 VINS but for some reason my VIN isn't coming up with as this issue being covered by a recall. Ford recommended that I submit my VIN to be included. The recall is Customer Satisfaction Program 21N03 https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2021/MC-10204046-0001.pdf. Please add my VIN to this recall as my it is experiencing the cam phaser issue and should be included in it. Thank you for your consideration.
Transmission started skipping at just over 70K miles. Mainly in lower gears (1-4), but has also dropped from 10 to 1 while traveling on the interstate. "Wrench" illuminates periodically detecting a Powertrain malfunction. This goes away once the vehicle is off for several minutes, but the problem still exists. Dealership ran a "re-learn" on the transmission that failed to work, indicating an internal failure. Options are to replace the transmission, or tear it down and find/fix the problem (4-5 months of downtime).
Heated and Cooling seat buttons for the front seats and Heated Seats for the rear indicates power being fed and luminated. Fuse for the climate control on seats is operational, however NO Heat and NO Cooling. Checked the Heated and Cooling Module under passenger front seat and disconnected harness to find the Top wiring pig tail as you look at it burnt. Terminals on module burnt. Apparently on the Ford F-150 Forum numerous members have the same problem. I have found the module and pigtail available, however I don't want to change it to prevent voiding possible Safety Recall. Will notify the dealership on March 6, 2023 at (Dick Smith Ford), Columbia S.C.. gds...
So my 2017 F-150 keeps having transmission problems. I've been to the dealer 3 different times in the last 2 months. I took it in the first time for the control module malfunction and a bang from under the driver seat. The dealership came back to me with a quote for 11K worth of repairs. EBS control module was the problem not the transmission. Drove the truck around 150-200 miles and took it back for the transmission issue again. They came back this time with oh it's the valve body of the transmission. That get's fixed. Have the truck back 3 weeks or so and the WRENCH light comes on, which is a problem with the powertrain. I will never own another FORD vehicle again. I'm the only owner of this truck. I've paid 10K out of pocket to get it fixed and it's still not fixed. Even though the light is on they say there weren't any codes for that. Mechanics aren't like they used to be. If the laptop doesn't tell them what to do they are clueless and have no idea what to do. Really Pissed Off Customer.
Both front door latches have issues. When i enter the vehicle and attempt to shut the door, it doesnt latch closed. Instead the door just bounces back open. The only way i found to get the latch to engage is by locking the door not with the interior switch but with the keyfob lock button. Once i do that while the door is open, i can shut the door and it will latch closed. Issue is sporadic.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the doors failed to close properly. The contact stated that the doors remained ajar while attempting to close the doors. The door ajar warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V652000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages). The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same local dealer where it was diagnosed that the door actuators needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while operating the vehicle, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The contact stated that the manufacturer’s notification indicated that an internal engine component had failed and advised to have the vehicle serviced. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the engine cam phaser was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not eligible for the Manufacturer’s Extended Service regarding the failure. The failure mileage was 54,500.
door latch freezes during frigid temperatures and wont latch closed and if door is closed hard enough it wont register the warning light but can fly open while driving had this happen multiple times with the passenger doors once with my 3 year old childs door. i had to ratchet strap it closed to get home there is open recalls for this problem just not for my vin# this is the first ive personally reported this issue since buying the vehicle. and sometimes the door ajar warning will come on if the door isnt shut hard enough but thats after the issue happens, the door will shut but not latch causing a major safety concern.
While traveling down the interstate at the posted speed limit of 70 MPH in the fast lane, I experienced the vehicle immediately hesitating without pressing the brake and a loud grinding noise in the front drivers side and caused me to put on my brakes, change lanes and drive off to the side of the road. The grinding stopped and then it happened again about 20 more miles down the road. I was able to get it to the Ford dealership and was told it was a defective IWE Check Valve which attempted to put my vehicle into 4 Wheel Drive. As a result, I had to replace the Front IWE and the new & improved IWE Check Valve which was designed to prevent this from happening in the future. For obvious reasons, I became upset that a known issue with defective IWE check valves causes this event to occur. After exploring the internet for this same exact problem, I found this has been going on for more than 5 years. I now have the "corrected" part, but my major concern is that while I did not get into an accident this time, what is to prevent it from happening to someone who may not exhibit the same composure and causes their vehicle to crash into someone else and death or injury is caused and could have been prevented with a relatively cheap replacement part.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, there was a loud rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. Additionally, the contact stated that on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the transmission failed to operate properly. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 63,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon taking her vehicle to a dealer for an inspection, the contact was informed by the service agent that the lug nuts were swollen due to moisture and needed to be replaced. The service agent provided her an estimate for the repair; however, the contact contested that the defect was a manufacturer defect and that she should not be charged for the repair. Another advisor decided to replace the lug nuts free of charge. The contact was referred to the manufacturer who then referred her to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 44,300.
The contact owned a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her husband was driving an unknown RV hauling a 2017 Ford F-150 at 70 MPH, the vehicle caught fire from the front end. The contact's husband attempted to extinguish the fire but was unsuccessful. The firefighters were able to extinguish the fire. Police and fire reports were filed. The vehicle was deemed totaled. The vehicle has not been diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

THE DEALER HAS BEEN GOOD TO WORK WITH .IT IS A PROBLEM THAT FORD NEEDS TO TAKE CARE OF BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED IF THEY HAVE NOT ALREADY. THANK YOU
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormal rattling sound. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the failure was related to TSB Number: 21N03-S4. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that he would be charged for the repair since the TSB had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.
I am writing to formally submit a complaint regarding persistent and significant issues with the cam phasers in my 2017 Ford F-150 3.5 EcoBoost. I purchased the vehicle in December 2022 with 70,000 miles on it. Since then, I have experienced ongoing cam phaser problems, which have led to considerable inconvenience and expense. In February 2023, with 82,000 miles on the vehicle, I took it to a dealership for diagnoses. Unfortunately, this repair was quoted at $8,000. The repair involved: •Checking engine light diagnosis and verification of cam phaser failure. •Removal and replacement of timing chains, phasers, chain tensioners, valve covers, gaskets, and other related components. •Reinstallation and testing to ensure the problem was resolved. I believe Ford should cover these costs since the cam phaser issue is widely known and documented as a design flaw in the 3.5L EcoBoost engines, particularly those produced before 2021. Ford acknowledged this issue and updated the cam phaser design in 2021, but many owners, including myself, have experienced failures despite adhering to recommended maintenance and service procedures . I urge the NHTSA to investigate this matter further and hold Ford accountable for the costs associated with these known defects. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
The door latches are still freezing open and closed so the doors will not open or close properly. Took it to the dealership and they said ford will not cover it because the latches are not part of the recall apparently.
Transmission Valve Body and Lead Frame. With just under 80,000 miles I was traveling on the interstate with my family when the transmission suddenly downshifted, causing the truck to go into a slide at 70mph. Luckily, there were no other vehicles around us and I was able to get the vehicle under control without going off the road or hitting anything. After stopping, checking to see what might have been wrong (no warning lights at the time.), we continued on without incident. A few weeks later, the same thing happened again as I was coming home from work. The check engine light came on and the transmission was locked in 2nd gear. I called a local shop that has Ford certified mechanics and found out this was a common problem, and due to it being a common problem, there was limited parts available to remedy the problem. I ended up having to have the transmission valve body and lead frame replaced as well as the filter and fluid. $1806.35 In both cases, when the transmission downshifted to 2nd, it put me and my family in very dangerous situation. We got lucky! I had everything repaired at my expense and didn't report anything at the time until I saw an article that reported that this had happened to many other people. It is something that Ford should address, and any vehicles that haven't already had this fixed, should be fixed at Ford's expense. Also, what about the people that have had this replaced, such as myself, are we certain the new main frames and valve bodies won't fail in time?
2017 Ford F150 with defective intake manifold Recurrent issue with this 5.0L engine and no replacement part available. Ford is behind thousands requests for this part and is releasing 6/day. My truck purchased new is undriveable and unrepairable. There should at least be a recall for this vehicle.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on numerous occasions while the vehicle was idling or after the vehicle was started there was a loud rattling sound coming from the hood. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the variable camshaft time unit PCM reprogram for cam phaser rattle needed to be performed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21B10 (variable camshaft time unit PCM reprogram for cam phaser rattle) however, the manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was advised to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 39,150.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that during the winter months, the front driver’s side door failed to close as needed. Due to the failure, the contact was forced to use either a bungee cord or a ratchet strap to keep the door closed to prevent the door from opening while driving. Upon investigation, the contact discovered and linked the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V652000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES); however, the dealer was notified of the failure, and the contact was informed that the vehicle was not included in the recall. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for the repair; however, the failure returned soon after the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced rough idling and on several occasions, the engine shut off while idling. Additionally, the vehicle also shut off while driving at speeds below 10 MPH. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would not properly accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact stated that the vehicle inadvertently lost automotive power with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the intake manifold was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated, and the vehicle would not properly accelerate. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the engine manifold was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 101,000.
When the temperature outside drops below freezing, the rear driver's side door has either been stuck closed or will not latch properly. Ford needs to issue a formal recall on this. If the door to open while driving this would not be safe to the passengers in the vehicle. if I were to get into an accident, I would not have easy access to the occupants in the back as the door maybe stuck and will not open.
Doors would not unlock with key fob in 23 degrees Fahrenheit weather. Had to unlock manually with key. Then door would not latch closed manually or automatically. Feels unsafe to drive because doors can swing open while driving and items or passengers in the vehicle could fall out onto roadway.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after the vehicle was started, the vehicle was idling roughly. In addition, the contact stated that there was a rattling sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with timing chain failure and a fractured timing belt adjustor. The contact was informed that the timing chain needed to be replaced, and the adjustor needed to be tightened. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was scheduled for an upcoming diagnostic test. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
I started my truck with "remote start" to warm up it up just a little before I got inside. (Truck was in the garage.) After I got my shoes on I got in the car after about 4-5 minutes. Hit the start button and started to pull out and the entire back window exploded. (I thought someone was shooting at me.) I could not figure out what happened but truck is clearly un-drivable now. Glad it happened while I wasn't on the road. This could have easily caused a wreck if I was in traffic. I googled the situation and noticed that there are a lot of complaints of this exact issue. Please see https://www.vehiclehistory.com/articles/all-about-the-ford-f-150-back-window-recalls . These comments sound just like my issue. I am assuming this has something to do with Remote Start (based on other comments) and the defrost of the back window. It is not just a small crack...it happened suddenly with a very loud bang. (Thought someone was shooting at me.) I called the dealership and they have convienantly never heard of this problem but recommended me to call customer care. I now have a case open with Ford but I don't have much hope based on all the other comments I have seen. (Ford said it would be 2-3 days before they can even get the part in.)
I had the F150 in for service on 1/26/23 for a unrelated repair to the driver seat, upon leaving the dealership and pulling on a 5-lane road the engine/tranny would not climb in rpm and the tranny started to go up and down its 10 speeds erratically and thumping into different gears. I quickly pulled off the road. I noticed the "check engine light" came on. I shutdown the F150 for a few minutes and restarted. "Check engine light" still on. I drove in parking lot and it was still doing the same issues. Since dealer was only a football field away I drove there. They put it on the code tester and it said valve body bad. Unfortunately for me the F150 can't be driven like this and the ONLY mechanic that could work on it was out for training. He did not verify trouble and order part until 2/6/23. The dealer, as of filing this claim, still has not informed me when parts will be in and when repair will be completed. My concern is that if this happens in heavy traffic it could cause an accident. Plus, there seems to be many issues with transmission and Ford seems reluctant to get it fixed correctly - read the internet. My vehicle only has approx. 45,000 miles in it. Ford should be required to extend warranty to 10 years 200,000 miles.
Freezing recall Driver’s door fail to close after fixing recall No fix recall
In November of 2021 the transmission started clunking and having difficulty shifting gears. It became worse as a week's progressed I took it to the dealership where they claimed it was a recurring problem in the 10 speed transmission so they claim to have rebuilt the valve body. I obtained the vehicle back after a week and it seemed to run fine over the next 10 months and now the last 2 months It has started again and gotten worse. I currently now have an appointment at the Ford dealer next Monday the 23rd of January 2023. This is my only vehicle and not having it for a week now 2 weeks is unacceptable.
Truck shifts out of gear. One time doing 70mph, shifted to neutral. Second time, engine stalled while on train track. The issue is the Transmission Range Sensor, or Neutral safety switch. Ford knows about the issue, affecting many thousands in USA. Same safety concerns. I have a 2017 model. Ford has recalled the 2021 model for same exact issue. In order to fix the issue, the sensor needs to be replaced. Unfortunately this part is on back order for multiple months. Ford is not offering a remedy to the thousands of us as it is out of warranty. But this is literally a life or death issue.
i have a 2017 Ford F-150 I bought in April 2022 with 113,000 miles on it. I need a turn signal bulb replace on the passenger side and that was done and then I found out I have a recall on the vehicle since May 2022. Never received a recall letter-nothing! Now I find out that I have a water pump leak, oil pan issues, gasket by the motor is leaking. I have had the vehicle less than a year now have 119,000 miles on it and have all of these problems and the dealership did admit that the F-150 Ford truck have had and are known for oil pan leaking issues and have not let anyone know. Underneath my truck it was saturated with oil and I found at least 25 complaints online and at least 95 more that I did not print out. How can I have a vehicle less than a year with not even 7,000 miles on it and have all of these problems? One mechanic said they thought the dealer who sold it knew about the oil pan leak as bad as it was and the other person at a car dealer in the service department could not say yes or no but thought it was unusual. I would like the company checked into and see if they did knew about the oil pan leak and the recall and I was not notified by letter before I bought the vehicle that there was a recall. It showed on the bill of sale and when I asked about the recall on the bill of sale they said it was taken care of as far as they knew. I feel I got a vehicle that had things wrong with it and was never told. Is it because I am a 80 year old person that needed a vehicle I feel I was taking advantage of. I just wanted to have something I could trust with no problems. Can you help or no?
Driver's side door won't stay latched.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, there was a loud rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the cam phasers were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced under a Manufacturer's Extended Coverage program for the failure. The failure mileage was 84,000.
The Right Rear Light underneath the brake light caught fire and exploded.
The transmission on this truck is awful. I’ve taken the truck to the dealership twice already. The last time I took my truck to the dealership was in January and they had it for 6 weeks to work on several issues. Mainly for the transmission because it was shifting very rough and makes a loud noisy going from one gear to another. After I got my truck back in February, the problem occurred almost immediately and has only gotten worse. I called my service writer at the dealership twice and left voicemails and haven’t heard back yet.
My 2017 Ford F150 with 40k miles was in dealership for tire rotation. Mechanic says my truck has swollen lug nuts. I reside in Ga and road salt not typically used in winter. Cost me $130 for something poorly engineered.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormally loud rattling sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with defective cam phasers and the cam phasers were replaced under warranty. The contact stated that almost two years later, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred. The dealer was informed about the failure and the contact was informed that the warranty had expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
2017 ford f150 CAM PHASER ISSUES less than 100 miles on it
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle made an abnormal sound during start-up. No warning light was illuminated. The contact related the failure to a faulty cam phaser; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.
Symptoms of clock spring failure in steering wheel (buttons only working on half of steering wheel, horn not working). There are recalls for this same issue on other model fords where at appears the airbag may be implicated. There is no recall for this on my model year, and ford could not provide insight as to whether my airbag was also implicated
