My 2017 Ford F-150 is experiencing an oil pan leak. F150 model is equipped with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine. This is a lack of RTV adhesion at the oil pan seal. My dealership wants over 1k to fix which I refuse to pay. This issue was created by poor engineering and craftsmanship on Fords end and the consumer should not have to pay to fix this known issue. I understand there is a fix that involves a 1-piece aluminum pan, as seen on many you tube videos. I'm requesting that Ford be held responsible for fixing this issue and not the consumer, who paid a lot of money for this truck. Any help in getting this resolved would be greatly appreciated.

WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH TRUCK DOWNSHIFTED RADICALLY CAUSING REAR WHEELS TO LOCK UP AND SQUEEL/ simultaneously THE PRNDL LIGHT IN DASH FLICKERS ALONG WITH THE GEAR RANGE
Transmission slightly lunges forward after a delay in pushing the gas pedal down - like a throttle surge. The item is not available for inspection. Safety put at risk relative to unexpected slight acceleration. Independent Service Center has verified the problem on 03.25.2025 after I asked for a diagnosis. I was given a TSB 23-2250 for further processing with the local Ford Dealer, since vehicle was under a paid extended warranty. The vehicle is in the shop now for faulty phasers, leaking oil pan, and the subject hesitency and surge of the transmission. The suspected transmission problem has not yet been confirmed by the Ford Dealer Service Center. There were no warning messages or warning lamps indicating I had a problem. The action relative to the acceleration surge just happened. Attachment 1 was the mechanics invoice for making a diagnosis not a repair Attachment 2 was my note to the mechanic specifically outlining items to check for verification Attachment 3 was a TechServiceBulletin he stapled to my invoice informing me that there was a TSB out on the transmission.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 30-35 MPH, the vehicle jerked while in first gear and briefly lost motive power before slamming into gear. The gear shifter notification disappeared. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The vehicle was restarted; however, the vehicle was driving roughly before downshifting to first gear. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who diagnosed that the transmission lead frame was damaged, which short-circuited the PCM (Power Train Module) and caused the transmission to fail. The contact was advised that the PCM and transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and transferred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
while installing new shocks my mechanic saw that the frame is rusted to the point of being unsafe to drive, some of the connections of the truck bed and cab we so rusted they were disconnected. there were holes 1-2" in diameter in the main frame. took the truck to local dealer which inspected it ask said the frame needed to be changed, when I asked if the truck was safe to drive the service rep did not want to answer the question, only said "frame has to be changed" I left the truck there as I did not want to sign any release of liability as felt unsafe driving the truck. I am first owner, bought the truck brand new and always maintained it and took good care of it.
Transmission error codes P0706 and P0707. Causes vehicle to be non operational. Cause is due to a bad sensor the lead frame in the valve body of the 6R80 transmission. On the 2011-2014 model years there was a recall issued, but the problem still exists I. The 2015-2017 model years. In my case, the module is failing at 8yrs/92750 miles.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked, the vehicle was started, and the contact became aware of an abnormal knocking sound coming from the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. Additionally, the contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 112,000.
Have had issues with transmission for years and was checked previously and dealer said no problems. Seems like it was down shifting for no reason. No recalls. In 2024 while driving I experienced sudden loss of power and seemed like down shifting from transmission on major highway and almost came to a stop in the middle of the lane. This was frightening! This continued to happen. Took to dealer and they said I had to replace the transmission.
I had a slight oil leak that was getting worse over time. It got to the point one day, I was seeing minimal smoke coming out from the hood and wheel wells. I was on my way home from work one day, and as soon as I got off the interstate, as soon as I stopped at the stop light, the whole hood was covered with smoke billowing out everywhere, and the scent of fire. I quickly shut the truck off and grabbed my fire extinguisher, thinking my truck was on fire. I took it to a local shop I’m familiar with, and he said both valve covers were warped, and there is a TSB out from Ford about this issue. The valve covers, over time, will warp, causing oil to slosh out onto the hot exhaust manifold, and everything else. He said they have had multiple 3.5 EcoBoost motors in, and everytime they have an oil leak, it’s a warped valve cover. He told me that Ford makes a replacement valve cover with a different material, but I see this as a MAJOR fire risk! Oil getting out and combusting on an exhaust manifold, that’s not safe at all, and could easily ignite. It really upsets me that Ford will make the new part, but not recall the vehicle to fix the issue. I had to pay $1,700 to have it all fixed and safe. I have a Foster Child and it jeopardizes his safety, along with my wife and I.
While driving at highway speed, transmission will downshift into 5th gear mostly, but at times down to 3rd gear. Street driving, it will at times downshift all the way down to 1st gear. Whenever switching from Drive to reverse, it won't go. Have to switch back and forth between the two until it engages. Noticed this issue doesn't happen until the transmission temperature is over 200°.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at slow speeds in a parking area, the rear passenger’s side doors opened unintendedly. The door ajar warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with both passenger’s side door latches. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who then diagnosed a failure with the passenger’s side door latch cables. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V652000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages), but the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 158,000.
On a regular and routine basis, the vehicle is known to have difficulty in shifting between 3rd and 5th gear. Often times, while shifting, the transmission will hesitate to shift before lurching into the next gear. The vehicle is equipped with a 10R80 transmission and has previously encountered issues with the Cam Phasers. Cam Phasers have been replaced, but no work has been performed on the transmission. Driver can replicate the issue on almost every drive.
Driving in a 45 mph sped zone transmission went from high gear to second..would not up shift or down shift… Because the truck was traveling 45 and then slowed others had to go around. The wrench light came on about the same time the transmission locked The dealer rep said that there were problems with this transmission and would be better with a replacement transmission.. 77032 miles on truck
On March 30th I filed a complaint #11654561. Since that time the vehicle has progressively gotten worse. Traveling at approximately 55 mph the tires suddenly locked up/stopped rolling at normal speed, jerked the truck and I was flung forward. the vehicle would not go over 15 mph AGAIN! Then, on [XXX] I was traveling home approximately 65 mph and truck downshifted and wouldn't move beyond 20 mph. This is getting out of control that I continue to have transmission problems with this vehicle. Talking with a Ford representative he said many problems have been with the transmission conductor plate, there is a defect and having it replaced with any product other than the Ford piece seems to resolve the problem. This is incredible, Ford is telling me what the problem is and won't fix it. How many other people are going through this same problem and we as Ford customers are being scammed of safety repairs. My truck is invaluable to trade in and I'm terrified to drive it. Please, hear my distress and help with a recall to fix our vehicles. Additionally, I just bought this truck approximately 7 months ago. For the 1st 30 days all was OK but as soon as I started traveling at higher speeds this problem appeared. I am afraid for not only my safety but for other drivers if this truck continues to act not safe in traffic. Sincerely, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was driving on [XXX] in Dallas when the top track that holds the rear sliding window became detached from the inside of the truck, causing the sliding glass window to fall forward and into the vehicle. This window falling created a void causing me to have to pull over and repair it the best I could. I have since learned that Ford used double sided tape and a small amount of adhesive to attach the track to the vehicle. I have also learned that this is a very common problem with this window track system. My truck is being inspected by Ford this morning, but I was told that there are no active recalls for this defect. There was no advance warning for this window failure. The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, an unknown error message was displayed on the instrument panel. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was turned off and failed to restart. The contact stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact pushed the vehicle over to the shoulder of the roadway. The contact stated that the failure had occurred in the middle of the highway with his two minor children seated inside the vehicle during the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a fractured oil valve cover, allowing oil to drain onto the alternator and connector. The contact was informed that the oil valve cover and alternator needed to be replaced. In addition, the contact was informed that the oil pressure sensor needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that the failure was the result of the oil pan leaking. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
When I turn my windshield wipers on during rain, I can't turn them back off. They WILL NOT TURN BACK OFF. I have to pull off the road and turn the truck off and then restart the truck.. Sometimes this works and sometimes this doesn't work either. THIS IS A VERY ANNOYING PROBLEM. This can be a safety issue if I am trying to deal with this and get off the road to turn the truck off. I also own a 2019 F150 and now it has started doing the EXACT same issue. I don't feel this is a problem for the owner. I feel there is a defect in these two trucks. I feel there should be a recall on this issue. I have talked to the Ford dealership about this issue. There are no warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. The date this first started is around April 2025 but I don't know the exact date. THANK YOU VERY MUCH:

We purchased this vehicle approximately 6 months ago. On our second long trip of owning it we noticed that when we would give it gas to pass vehicles it would down shift and up shift hard. No warning/error lights came on. We dud have a diagnostic check done but nothing came up. The mechanic at Nicely's said it could be the clutch bank? I read where these similar trucks are having the same issues with shifting and there are some recalls on them. Please help..my warranty was only good for 6 months therefore expired. Where and how to we go from here.
On [XXX] while driving at 70mph on [XXX] my 2017 F-150 began to shift into multiple gears causing the computer to shut down the trans causing me to coast from the center lane off to the shoulder. the truck shut down. and would not allow me to shift until the computer reset and then allowed me to go home. This happened again on Friday [XXX] leaving me stranded for 20 min in the center turn lane in Berea Ky. I Called the local for dealer who advised they had never seen this issue. I called Ford Customer Care and filed a complaint. on April 7th i took it to Richmond Ky AAMCO Transmission. They advised there is a TSB (technical service Bulletin on the LEAD Frame. The Lead frame houses all the electronic components to the shift solenoid plate. this frame unit is the culprit. and gets dirt between the solenoid electric pigtails causing shorts which causes the trans to freakout. Needless to say it cost me 1600.00 to get this issue fixed. they replaced the lead frame put in a fam spacer that protects the the sominoid connections, the also replaced the solenoid valve plate. While driving vehicle at 60 mph transmission shifted unexpectedly to a lower gear increasing the rpm’s on engine. Vehicle transmission would not operate normally after this incident. The orange colored warning “ wrench” symbol instantly came on after this incident. I drove truck to a Ford Dealership that was close by and they replaced the lead frame component on the truck . See attachment for details of repair . This appears to have corrected the issue with the transmission.
My transmission automatically downshifts sometimes which could cause me to lose control and is a big safety hazard.
My Ford F150 has started to down shift without me changing any gears. It downshifts and at times after the down shift when the vehicle stops and will not proceed. I need to wait or restart the truck before the truck will act normally. I have not been able to determine the variable that make it down shift on it own.
transmission suddenly downshifted while driving down highway, end result several components in the transmission, lead frame, valve body, torque converter clutch were replaced at my own expense of $3300
While maintaining a fixed speed (~55mph) up a slight incline, the vehicle rapidly shifted from 6th gear to a lower (presumably 1st given rpm/torque change) gear. While in normal use at that speed in 6th gear, the torque converter is in a "locked up" (direct mechanical connection) state- the sudden gear change plus "locked up" torque converter caused the engine speed to rapidly jump past its "red-line." Unable to compensate for the instant change in torque, the rear wheels locked up and the truck began to slide- I was able to regain control of the vehicle as it slid off the road and come to a stop. No injuries. After stopping briefly to assess the situation, I got underway- it became quickly obvious that the transmission has sustained extensive damage in the incident as it began to "shudder" intermittently. Further research and testing by myself using consumer diagnostic tools revealed that the torque converter sustained damage, particularly in the internal clutch (the mechanism that allows for a direct engine to transmission connection at high speed for better fuel economy), which is now failing to fully engage and disengage at some speeds and causing the transmission to "shudder". This conclusion was reached by observing the "desired torque converter slip" (measured in rpm) and comparing to the "measured torque converter slip" during a variety of conditions. It is unclear to me what caused the sudden gear change, but it caused extensive (and expensive) damage to my vehicle. This problem presents a major safety concern to myself and other vehicles around me and could result in a crash if it occurs again. Other F150s (one body-style older I believe) with the same transmission had a similar recall recently- had this also been addressed by the manufacturer on the 15-17 trucks, this incident (and extremely costly repair) may have been prevented.
I bought my 2017 Ford Shelby F150 (V8 5.0L, 6R80 transmission) used from a dealership in 2022, and noticed when depressing the Sport mode on the shifter, and hard acceleration, that the truck will suddenly downshift to a very dangerous gear while on the freeway. I heard the NTSA engineering analysis that is ongoing, and wanted to include my experience. Since I don't touch the Sport mode on the truck, it has not happened since. Ford needs to do a recall on this VERY dangerous issue.
My truck randomly shifted from 4th to 1st while I was traveling down [XXX] heading south from union city Indiana. Lucky they wasn’t another car near at the time and I was able to keep it on the road avoiding an accident. But now my truck is acting funny and I’m worried it’s gonna do it again and hurt me or somebody else. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Transmission started jumping hard from park to drive , progressed dropping from higher gear to lower gears hard while driving causing the truck to lock up and skid does it at both higher speeds and lower speeds even while idling down the road .
Truck is dropping gears/drop into neutral/reverse/park while driving. Problem initially began only within the instrument cluster, but as time went on it progressed to dropping gears with erratic gear indication on the instrument cluster (flickering through P N D R M 1 2). A video can be provided upon request, but cannot be attached to this inquiry. Once the truck was taken into the shop I was made aware of other F150s of the same year/model having the same issue, and that Ford is currently investigating. The technician at the Ford dealership correlated the issue to the lead frame harnesses part.
While doing approximately 65 MPH on highway the transmission was in it’s highest gear, 10th on the automatic transmission. It suddenly down shifted to 4th gear uncommandedly .
Transmission seems to be faulty. While accelerating the transmission will shift from 4th gear to 1st gear then up to 3rd gear. Sometimes it will return to normal operation at the point, sometimes it will continue to shift up and down at random. I have been told by the shop (more than 1) that the transmission is fine. This random and hard down shifting cause the vehicle to lose speed which is very unsafe. I first noticed the problem about 6 months after I purchased the truck (Oct. of 2024) as a hesitation when shifting from 3rd to 4th. This is an ongoing problem that continues to worsen as time goes on. Currently the vehicle is available with reasonable accommodations to be inspected.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving with the cruise control activated and set to 77 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, causing the vehicle to jerk violently. The vehicle made an abnormal whistling sound, with the RPM revving high. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the contact was informed that no cause of transmission failure was found. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V075000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 172,000.
Transmission will randomly downshift several gears, causing a major safety issue.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 5 MPH out of the driveway, there was an abnormal burning odor coming from the vehicle. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's husband then heard an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle, and the rear window cracked. The contact called an independent mechanic and was informed that the defroster had heated up and cracked the rear window. The vehicle was not diagnosed by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000.
The vehicle’s rear wheels temporarily locked up when coming to a stop. Fortunately it was only under 30mph. Vehicle later got stuck in 3rd gear driving in town, check engine light did come on with DTC p0717. It is the same issue that 2014 F150 with the 6r80 transmissions are having.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, there was a loud rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with the cam phaser failure. The contact was informed that the cam phaser needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 184,000.
Front brake flexible hose assembly failure without warning leading to loss of brake function. Luckily this was noticed during start up while parked. Brake fluid discharged with each brake pedal depression. Work was repaired by Ford dealership.
“The vehicle, a 2017 Ford F-150, is experiencing an active engine oil leak originating from the oil pan assembly. Upon inspection, the leak appears to be due to a defect in the oil pan sealing surface integrity. There is no evidence of external damage, impact, or improper maintenance that would otherwise explain the failure. The condition is consistent with a manufacturing defect, potentially involving improper gasket material, insufficient sealant application, or warping of the oil pan flange. Oil residue is visible along the oil pan perimeter and lower engine components, with active dripping observed after engine operation.” Safety Concerns: Leaking oil can hit hot exhaust components → potential smoke or fire hazard. Low oil = high risk of engine damage. Engine knocking/ticking. Vehicle has been inspected at a Ford Dealership with no resolve.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and occupied at the residence, while attempting to start the vehicle, the contact heard an abnormal sound coming from the engine. No warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle started to hesitate. The vehicle was taken to dealer, where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 49,137.
Downshift is causing truck to jolt. Truck was previously taken to Ford dealer to repair this specific issue and was told it was repaired/resolved but keeps occurring.
Multiple occasions in recent weeks where truck has downshifted rapidly and unexpectedly at cruising highway speeds from 6th gear to 2nd. First incident was on March 8, 2025, while pulling a horse trailer at highway speed of 55mph where truck downshifted from 6th to 2nd causing a sudden slow down of vehicle and risk of crash while pulling trailer. Most recent incident occurred while accelerating as truck was shifting upward through gears it suddenly downshifted to 2nd causing rear wheel lock up. In all incidents the check engine light would come on, pulling off to side of road, turning power off and back on again would reset the truck and check engine light would go away. On April 10, 2025 the truck was taken to the local Ford dealer for a routine service and issues with the transmission downshifting were pointed out and asked to be looked at. The report said there is "TCC slipping actual and TCC desire slipping 100RPMS". The recommend repair was a complete transmission replacement due to high milage. Vehicle currently has 121k miles. I declined repairs at that time due to cost of complete transmission replacement. On April 26, 2025 truck was taken to local SMOG station for routine SMOG inspection for DMV. Truck failed test due to check engine light being on and error code being reported. The error code being reported is "P0720 - Output Speed Sensor Circuit".
2017 F-150 Platinum Supercrew 4WD Recently Purchased from dealership, drove for 2k miles and started having engine knock. Did research and found identical sound, Cam phaser knock/rattle. This is still a high priority issue and a known issue as it can cause engine failure and manufacturer is unhelpful and unwilling to investigate and/or offer guidance. I talked to dealership that preformed the “recall” previously and they stated that no part was replaced and ford issued a software update to use as a bandaid instead of a permanent repair. It will cost upwards of $6,000+ to repair through dealer and ford refuses to be of assistance. I am requesting that the NHTSA reinvestigate the issue and open back up a recall request to the general public due to it being a safety concern. If the engine implodes on the highway, it can cause a major accident and/or fatal injury to many drivers.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH and accelerating to overtake another vehicle, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted, and the vehicle jerked hard and then shut off. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road, shift to park, and restart the vehicle. While driving 35 MPH, the rear wheels locked up momentarily and then continued moving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact called an independent mechanic to schedule an appointment. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the engine made an abnormal rattling sound. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired.
