Transmission is slipping at 54k miles, ford says it’s perfectly normal however it will jump from gear 1-4 and jerk extremely hard and occasionally make a noise as well. I took it to a mechanic they told me that fords of that year have an issue with the CDF drum slipping causing the transmission to wear down extremely fast.
2018 Ford F-150 with transmission problem. 10 Gears- jerking and pause between automatic shifting of gears, down shifting. Brought to Ford- needs a complete transmission. This truck has 75,000 miles and is not "Built Ford Tough". Ford tells me this is not a recall and denied my claim. This is a safety issue and is a big, known problem for Ford. The dealership is replacing 6 of them per week that are not part of a recall. This should be a recall. Shame on Ford Motors.
while driving at highway speeds the transmission has shited gears causing the truck to hesitate, and stuble hunting for gears. This truck has the same 6r80 transmission that is being recalled in 2015-2017 modles. Please have this modle year include.

The contact related to the failure of the Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Engine Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the vehicle was not included in the Customer Satisfaction Program. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000.
know 10 speed transmission failure, hard shifts lunging at red lights, load grinding noise. ford dealer diagnosis was need new transmission.
Transmission starting to slip in 7th and 8th Gear when attempting to accelerate or hauling a load. I had this issue repaired once before where I was informed by the ford Transmission tech that this was so common that he had the parts list in the top of his toolbox. I am not the only F150 owner to experience this issue. There were no warning lamps. I have not returned to the dealership this time but am available if needed. This could cause loss of life, when I tried to pass another vehicle i was almost involved in a head on collision since the truck started slipping as i was trying to accelerate around and almost didnt make it in time. Thank you for your time.
First, when the truck is at a stop (red/stop sign), acceleration fails, resulting in a sudden, hard jolt into gear or a complete loss of power. Near rear end collision occurrence avoided several times. Second, while driving 0-30MPH there is a constant hard swift into gear causing a forward/backward jolt of all passengers. Last, and most significant, is the sudden loss of power experienced with highway driving. While driving 75-80MPH, sudden deceleration occurs. The gears shift spontaneously from 8/9 down to 1. Speeds are not capable of being manually controlled, by the driver, at that time. What happens next, is either a sudden jolt into gear following deceleration or complete Loss of power. Collision was avoided by pulling off to the side of the road. This sudden deceleration occurs also when attempting to merge into highway traffic. Here again, a rear end collision was narrowly avoided. The truck was serviced to evaluate the cause of this issue, by independent service station technician (vehicle no longer under warrant). They stated that the transmission was the problem and, after consulting with Ford, a computer upgrade was performed. This unfortunately had no impact on the above problem, despite following the recommended "break in" time. Currently the truck is not operable as the transmission is too unpredictable and erratic, rendering it unsafe to drive. This truck currently has only 46,000miles. Ford customer service was notified of this problem who in turn suggested we contact NHSA regarding this complaint. Incidentally, a family member with the same year, make and model truck had the transmission replaced, just this month, because of similar power train operational issues. I encourage the NHSA to evaluate this matter, as POWER TRAIN FAILURE is a known issue with this particular vehicle. Most importantly, this is a concern which poses a significant impact on overall public safety.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a local dealer and repaired under Emission Recall: 24E12. The contact stated that while his wife was driving 50 MPH and on the exit ramp, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted from 5th gear to 1st gear, and the vehicle decelerated to 15 MPH. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently downshifted and jerked. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was opened. The contact was also referred to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 142,402.
The 10R80 transmission slipping in 1st gear, the engine will rev to 2000 rpm and without warning the transmission slams into gear causing the tires to spin. The loss of ability to engage into gear caused me to need to pull over to the side of the road on two separate times. This has happened when the transmission temperature is cooler. The failure occurs unexpectedly. I have brought the vehicle to a local transmission repair business.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. After the engine had reached normal operating temperatures, the rattling sound ceased; however, the failure became a regular occurrence. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed a failure with the cam phasers. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 44,000.
there is a problem with the transmission in this truck. it slips out of gear randomly and you lose all power and the RPMs spike.it also slams into gear and sometimes wont shift at all. Apparently, Ford is aware of this problem but refuses to correct it. This is incredibly dangerous especially in traffic or merging. I was almost rearended several times. I've had this truck since it was new and I've never towed or hauled heavy stuff in it.I should not need a new transmission with barely 70 thousand miles on it.
The 2018 F-150 has a huge oil consumption problem, constantly having to add oil after several hundred miles driving the truck, at a minimum a qt at a time. The F-150 10speed transmisson also has a hard shift and jerks while shifting gears, after it warms up it the harshness of the hard shift goes away but still has the hard shifts. There is no warning lights on the dash, and it can be reproduced. Have on several occasions with the hard shifting almost caused several accidents being rear ended due to the truck not shifting out of gears as it should. Along with several times on the interstate after having to stop for other accidents and the truck not getting back up up to speed as it should.
Was driving approximately 55 MPH on a busy highway when all of a sudden vehicle lost all power and check engine and service lights came on. I had to immediately try and merge to the side of the road which created a unsafe situation causing traffic to slow immediately behind me so that I could coast to the side of the road and into a parking lot. Engine still running, transmission issue. Felt like it was in neutral; however vehicle selector was in drive. Had vehicle towed to dealer and was told it is an internal transmission issue and that I need a new transmission. They want to charge 11K to replace with new one. Ford rebuilt this transmission at approximately 29k due to issues and 80k miles later having issues again. This transmission always shifted hard and would drop down in gear while traveling creating an unsafe situation. Ford knows about the issues with these transmissions in the 2018 year F150's and hasn't implemented any recalls, only TSB's that don't fix the issue. I am still getting quotes from other repair shops to replace the transmission.
At or around 85,000 miles, I noticed my vehicle hesitating going into 3rd or 4th gear. Shortly thereafter, the vehicle began hard shifting into that 3rd/4th gear. Occasionally, the vehicle would lunge forward unexpectantly during this gear shift change. There have been several warning lights (wrench icon) appear on the dash. Also, on several occasions, I have experienced a sudden loss of power when trying to accelerate the vehicle as in a passing situation or merging into traffic. Upon doing research on the internet, I discovered hundreds of reports of Ford truck owners experiencing the same problems that I am having. These complaints are from 2018-2023 Ford truck owners whose trucks have the 10 speed transmissions. These defective transmissions need to be recalled not only because they pose a safety concern with the sudden lunging forward but also with the loss of power that sometimes occurs. Many owners have taken their vehicles to Ford dealerships and other mechanics to be told they need new transmissions or their transmissions need to be rebuilt. The cost for these new or rebuilt transmissions are from $5500 to $11,000. These are transmissions with mostly less than 100,000 miles on them. I haven't taken my vehicle to a mechanic (Ford or private) because I feel like I'm just going to be told that I need a new or rebuilt transmission. I am only driving my Ford F-150 within my local town because I'm afraid to drive it out of town. I'm so afraid that I may get into heavy traffic and the vehicle decides to lunge forward causing an accident or that I may need to pass or merge into traffic on an interstate and the vehicle loses power and I get rear-ended. Ford is aware of these defective transmissions and need to recall these vehicles with these 10 speed transmissions.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the transmission intermittently slipped into another gear, and caused the vehicle to temporarily lose automotive power. No warning lights were illuminated. The failure had occurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that several unknown parts in the transmission needed to be replaced. However, the dealer informed the contact that some of the unknown parts that needed to be replaced were discontinued. The contact researched and was became aware of an unknown NHTSA recall; however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.
Pant is flaking off roof and tail gate in 1/8 to 1/4 inch pieces. Offord white paint. Clearly a manufacturing defect . 2018 F150 has approx. 27,000 miles on it, Filed a claim with ford dealer Gosch in Murrieta Ca 92563.
At 53k miles, the transmission began skipping gears, not shifting at all and while driving down the highway at speeds of 65+, I could see the transmission attempting to go from 10th gear, down to first. The transmission wouldn't shift from 2nd to 3rd, and eventually only go into first gear. Not shifting was very dangerous especially when turning left across traffic. Several times I was left stuck in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic speeding towards me. It never happened, but had the truck shifted from 10th to 1st gear at 65 mph, that could have cause catastrophic failure. I had to take the vehicle in for repair and they found the transmission was completely ruined. It cost several thousand dollars to repair and Ford refuses to provide any compensation.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving out of the driveway and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond and the transmission shifted to neutral, nearly causing a crash. The contact stated while driving downhill at 5 MPH and depressing the brake pedal, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated to 40 MPH. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was related to the transmission. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The failure mileage was approximately 94,000.
When accelerating, in gears 3-5, truck will intermittently jerk or hesitate. With transmission being erratic with acceleration, it difficult to steer when turning out of an intersection or corner or even changing lanes. This is a 10 speed transmission.
The car has very bad cam phasers that are a manufacturing issue from ford. This is causing a lot of damage to the engine and also it has put me in very dangerous situations because of the huge decrease in power when I am exiting into a highway or changing lanes. I have spoke to ford and they did not want to help me especially when they have had multiple recalls for this in the past and even extended recalls. Please help me with this, because it's a big issue and it's a manufacturing problem from ford.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the transmission was intermittently slipping while shifting between fourth and fifth gear. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle hesitated while starting. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the cam phasers were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 127,220.

There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the cam phasers needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.
APIM has failed and must be replaced. This means that there is no back-up camera, navigation, radio, climate control, etc.
The button on the steering wheel get hot then fail to work this has happened several times i have complained to ford. The cruise control quits working and all the buttons for the dash menu quit working. I will be driving down the road with the cruise control on and all of a sudden it will quit working. Then it will just come back on like you never shut it off and when you least expect it. when this happens you can not shut the thing off its gonna cause an accident.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact referenced Customer Satisfaction Program: 21B10; as a possible cause for the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
When the transmission is going to shift into 4th it hesitates then suddenly shifts to 8th then 1st and the vehicle rapidly and unexpectedly negatively accelerates. I am adding yesterdays date but this has been intermittent since 2019 and I’ve had it in the Ford dealership while under warranty even back then.
10R80 Transmission Transmission has very prolonged delay when switching to certain gears which results in loss of power when merging onto roads causing near misses because it takes so long to engage the gear. Truck has zero power during this shift delay. The shift delays are caused by an issue that ford KNOWS about where a bushing (CDF drum) shifts a little bit inside the transmission. Vehicle is not safe to drive. When the gear finally does engage, there is a violent jerk/surge forward which can be impossible to control.
I was parked in a parking lot when I heard a crack sound. I looked down and my steering wheel had a crack around the Ford emblem large enough that the part of the air bag could be seen. The truck is kept in a climate controlled garage and this incident happened when it was not hot out. I have contacted Ford and they have said that it is not a safety concern. I feel like this is a safety concern if the steering wheel can crack and I can see my air bag without there being any form of collision or contact with the air bag or the steering wheel at the time.
CDF hub failure. Transmission falls out of gear or shifts really hard especially on the freeway or when turning and it’s down shifting. Took vehicle to the dealership and Ford acknowledged the failure and they have known about it but have not issued a recall. FORD says it’s a design flaw on their part.
While going 60mph or above, transmission automatically shifts from 10th to 1st gear! 1st gear has not locked into gear yet while doing this but if did there would be a catastrophic accident.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions after adding brake fluid to the brake fluid reservoir, and test driving the vehicle around the neighborhood, the brake warning light illuminated. The contact stated that each time the brake fluid reservoir was checked and was empty. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 54,000.
While driving the vehicle it often shifts out of gear. It will hard shift change and not drive, which causes people behind you to have to unexpectedly stop or speed up on you because truck shifts out of gear. Very dangerous situation, and online people often complain about it
10R80 transmission have many issues regarding their shifting and the use of the adaptive tables. Have experienced multiple hard shifts, flare shifts and the occasional downshift in the heads up display. It will be in a higher gear like 7 or 6 and show it dowshifted to 1 for two seconds. Then it goes back to normal. Previous owner already had the transmission repaired and it still has the same issues. I get a code a few minutes later after it shifts horrible for a few minutes. Pointing to issues with the incorrect gear ratios. These transmissions are hazardous as it will happen randomly and will go back to normal most of the time. Have been caught at a light before where it won't shift down back to 1st. I have to put it in park or reverse for a few seconds for the transmission to find itself. Very dangerous to be doing that in traffic. Have had multiple near misses. Of course Ford just says the transmission needs to be changed out for a new one. At 9K-10K for the repair each time and frequently its absurd. The issues have to be fixed or else you are stuck buying a new transmission every 50-100K. I have 90's Ford's with the original transmission still working.
My back up camera barely works now. Most of the times that I back up the screen is blue or black. Very rarely it will work. I brought it into my local for dealer and they said moisture somehow got into the sealed connector and started corroding the metal in there making it a bad connection. They told me I needed a new wire harness for over $500 and I don’t have the money to fix it. So now my back up camera is just broke.
Transmission shifted from 1st to forth and back down causing sudden stop barely avoiding a rear end collision with evasive maneuvers from other drivers. This condition repeated other times with no traffic. if I allowed it to continue and accident is eminent. I have taken the vehicle to a transmission shop for repairs. This condition is a manufacturing defect acknowledged by Ford and I am dumfounded why this agency has not required a recall for this dangerous condition. I guess you want to see someone die before you take action.
F150 transmission randomly disengages during acceleration causing truck to quickly decelerate instead of accelerating. The loss of transmission engagement is for a period of time just when you need the most control. Our problem started approximately a month ago intermittently and has become a daily though unpredictable event. When the transmission does engage it bangs into gear or shifts erratically into different gears not related to application of foot pressure on accelerator. I took our F150 to a Ford dealer ($145 to diagnose) and an independent transmission repair shop and both called out the problem as a CDF clutch failure and that it is a known design defect by Ford that they are ignoring. Worst of all, the only fix is a replacement transmission at a cost of $9K and because the dealer has so many in line of our vehicle they said despite a redesigned transmission being available, they could not actually perform the replacement for about a month. Ford should be accountable for knowing of a design defect that results in high consequence safety risks of its vehicle occupants. This Ford transmission defect introduces a manufacture's defect safety hazard to drivers and because it last up to 30 or more seconds, it needs to be called out by NHTSA to Ford as a real safety issue with high potential negative safety consequences they should proactively address. The first time it happened to my wife it was in a true near miss with my wife turning right and accelerating onto the highway. Another vehicle did not recognize she had lost power and was heading into her flank as her vehicle went lame almost hitting her. Ford should be directed by NSHTA issue a recall. I have also attached Ford Safety Bulletin 24-2436 but note it does not raise this to the safety urgency it needs to have.
I was stopped at a stop sign and then proceeded to press the gas and turn into the far lane. A quarter to halfway through the turn the engine shut off and I got the message “ Auto StartStop Shift to P, then Restart Engine”. Had to put the vehicle in park in the middle of the road and restart the engine. Luckily no one was coming but if there had been I could have been hit.
10 speed auto transmission failure
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle hesitated while starting. The check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local independent mechanic where it was diagnosed, and it was determined that the valve body and transmission drum needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V164000 (Power Train); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
The transmission will randomly downshift or drop into neutral while driving which has almost caused a collision multiple times. I can’t cross a lane without worrying if the truck is going to shift into neutral and not accelerate.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 MPH, the contact felt a thump and observed a loud noise simultaneously coming from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was pulled over to the side of the road and inspected, and the contact became aware that the tailgate had unexpectedly opened. The contact closed the tailgate. On another occasion, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the contact felt a thump and observed a loud noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. The contact stated that a large toolbox with 6-foot drawers fell from the vehicle onto the road. The contact stated that the toolbox falling from the vehicle could have caused injuries to other drivers. The contact used a bungee cord to secure the tailgate. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 42,000.
On April 2025 Grieco Ford of Delray Beach Florida send a technician over my house to repair a recall they had on my 2018 F150 and at that time I had a engine light on After he fixed the recall on the next day my Stereo stop working completely and also the backup camera I made a complaint and They sent a unqualified technician over my house to see what was wrong And after he left my engine light came on again and I still have no Stereo . All the technician told me was that the recall had nothing to do with the Stereo failure I told the technician that it was too much of a coincidence that my Stereo failure . Believe or Not I thank God they sent a unqualified technician because like the first it tried to repair one thing and screwed up another ,that way you people know what I’m trying to explain. I made a research and its very rarely that a 2018 has stereo issues. I’m not saying that it could not happen But it’s too much of coincidence My Truck never had any problems at all Only brakes and tires and off course oil changes I don’t even care if they give me a used Stereo,as long it works
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that on several occasions after starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 139,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of oil per week. The contact stated that one quart of oil was added per week. The contact was unaware of any oil leaks. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that a longer oil dip stick and an engine software update was needed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the oil consumption persisted. The contact took the vehicle back to the same dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was damage to cylinder #2. The engine was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that much later while start the vehicle in the morning and shifting to drive (D), the transmission remained stuck in 1st gear. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the transmission struggled while shifting into, and out of 2nd gear. The contact stated that once the vehicle hard warmed up, the transmission was shifting normally. The contact stated that there were no warning lights illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle back to the same dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and it was determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
The contact owns a 2018 Ford F-150. The contact stated while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle was jerking until shifting into gear. There was no warning light illuminated. The local dealer was contacted; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The contact was informed that the VIN was not under recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 86,000.
This vehicle is equipped with the 10 speed transmission. The vehicle will accelerate on its own, shifts harshly, slam into gear when placing in park, fails to accelerate, and fails to shift at times.
Ford had two recalls on 2018 F-150. My vehicle had both issues and was not part of the recall. They had a cam phaser recall that caused timing chain failure if not addressed and excessive oil consumption recall. My vehicle was regular serviced at Ford and it had a rattling noise which indicated possibly timing chain issue but Ford never mentioned any issues at time of service or any warning lights. The timing chain failed and caused damage tonthe engine. The engine has to be rebuilt or replaced for 10k-12k in cost.
We have had our Ford F-150 evaluated at least twice at a Ford Dealer and they have no idea why it shifts into neutral when the vehicle is in drive. It doesn't do it every time. Sometimes it catches and lunges, other times it just revs the engine when trying to accelerate in drive. I have almost been struck on two separate occasions attempting to pull out into traffic and the vehicle shifted back to neutral as I started to pull out (even though it was firmly in drive). This is terribly dangerous!
