NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2019 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
The vehicle has had transmission issues from the first day. It never had second gear. The engines revs up to 6k rpm then hard shifts. And the truck lunges forward. The shifting then got so drastically bad all of a sudden at 100 k miles. The truck had zero gears and would not shift. I had to let the truck run for 30 minutes for it to shift at all. I would be driving and the truck rev up to 5/6 k rpms them lunge forward for many gears. This would happen whilst on the highway. It was super dangerous at all times, but especially pulling onto highways or crossing intersections. Now that I read about the class action law suits I realize this problem has been present the entire time and Ford knew about it. And now two payments away from being done with my $32k investment, I have to figure out a way to purchase a new truck!?
Transmission abruptly shifts between lower gears (1-5), sometimes causing a jerking motion. Several times it drops down (feeling like car completely looses power) causing cars in to almost rear end vehicle, conversely jerks forward when shifting into high gear almost rear-ending car in front of me. Has happened several times. Dealer claims need to redo transmission. Upon investigating online, there are numerous similar complaints forum discussing this topic. This is a serious safety issue with Ford along with bilking customers.
Dealership could not rotate tires due to swollen lug nuts. Wanted $258.00 to replace all lug nuts. I called 800-392-3673. Said vehicle out of warranty. Said had no other calls about this problem. I look on line lots of people have this problem. I will try to fix on my own before have flat and can not remove tire on side of road. Looks like a safety issue.
The 10 speed transmission has the well known hard shifting, clunking noise, and delayed acceleration issues that 2017-2019 f150,s have.
Currently Suffering from a manufacturing defect per diagnosis from Ford technician in my 2019 F150 with the 10-speed transmission. I was advised by Ford to submit the form since I must pay for the repair and updated components to fix the issue and would be reimbursed once the recall was issues. Ford has issued a new technical service bulletin (TSB 24-2046) and re-engineered the CDF drum and housing to correct the issue. Below is a list of symptoms I’ve been experiencing along with others from 2017 – 2023: Wrench light is on Clunking or banging noise when starting the engine Rough, harsh or erratic shifting Hesitation between gears Gear slipping Gear getting stuck while shifting Jerking or lunging Loss of power while driving
I started noticing my transmission slipping when I first drive my vehicle after being parked for a few hours about 8 months ago. It stopped slipping after a couple of minutes. I didn’t take it to a ford service department because various websites said that is normal with the 10 speed transmissions. About a month ago, the slipping became worse. I also started losing power. I would start to accelerate through an intersection when I would lose power. I took it to a ford service department and they said I need a new transmission based on a TSB report. I contacted Ford customer service to determine if they will cover all or most of the repairs because my truck only has 65000 miles. They finally came back and said they will only cover a small portion of the cost.
Transmission failure requiring replacement
Fuel tank purge valve issue causing multiple idling and performance issues, eventually resulted in break down. Tank was found to be imploded upon mechanical inspection.
Has high fuel pressure constantly and I have changed several parts for the fuel system and has it running to rich
Issue was with the boat trailer tire for VIN 405119BA2LC000663. Goodyear Marathon, ST205/75R14, DOT [XXX], 8/32 tread remaining. Steel belt failure. Tires pressure was set to 40 psi before trip. Failure occurred after 45 minutes on the highway traveling at 65 mph. Felt a bad vibration, then loud bang when air came out of tire. This tire is only 8 years old. I replace them at 10 years. Transmission shifting from 1st to 3rd gear. Vehicle slows down where I'm pushed forward then shifts to third with a banging sound where the vehicle jumps forward and I'm pushed back in the seat. Almost got into several accidents while I'm traffic. This started around 64.5k miles told dealer would have to leave vehicle. Problem went away but then it seemed that shifting to each gear I would be pushed forward and then pushed back as gear kicked in. Contacted dealer and was told I could not bring vehicle in because they had 6 vehicles in their garage with transmission issues and they have no parts for them. Dealer would call back on Monday or Tuesday following week. Never called me back so I called the end of that week on a Friday. Manager I was speaking to was out called following Monday went on on a Wednesday. The transmission issues had gotten worse, shifting up and down banging into gear. The dealer updated codes to see if that would correct problem. Resolution is that transmission is no good I was given 3 options. Need to buy a new transmission with install rounded up costs ,10k. Option 2 would have the ford tech team disassemble the transmission to find the problem which will cost more than 10k. Last option is trade it in for a new vehicle. Today my wrench came on due to transmission code error. I feel that not only is this a safety issue it's a consumer issue as well. How does a customer deal with a truck where a transmission that is no good and is being told that by the dealer? I've kept up with all services and recalls. I see there are recalls but not for the JL3Z7000. Ford knows they have problems and are selling lemons the do not have fixes only temporary fixes. I really cannot afford another vehicle and need a vehicle for work. I hope the nhtsa forces ford to recall all their problematic transmission and extend the warranty to 7 years 100k miles.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, unknown service lights illuminated. Additionally, on several occasions the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that there was moisture inside the driver's side rear taillight assembly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 59,025.
I am aware of the cam phase issue with 2017-2020 F150s 3.5 Eco Boost (also effected my 2016). I have 89K miles and I took it to the dealership as my cam phasers are failing and making the engine loud and ready to fail. The repair bill is 4K and I called Ford Customer Care - who does not Care. I had purchased extended warranty, but they are stating it is not covered. This is the 2nd F150 I have owned with the problem. Ford service is stating they see "a lot" of these - Ford needs to make this right for their consumers.
My 2019 F150 transmission will downshift very harsh into first gear like the truck nose dives and will slam back into fourth after, like the transmission loses power. I have had it at the dealer when it was still in warranty and they had it for like two weeks and then said it was the throttle body but that definitely never fixed it. Since I am out of warranty I just learned to live with the issue for last couple of years and now I see there is a recall for this issue but my truck doesn’t fall under the recall or something. Trying to get help with fixing this issue.

This afternoon while getting ready to leave church, I pulled my truck forward about 10 feet with no issues in order to load some things in the truck bed before taking off. The truck started up just fine, and the starter sounded just as strong as it always does, indicating the battery was of good health. Upon starting the vehicle less than 5 minutes later the engine would not start due to a dead battery - or so that's what the symptoms led me to believe anyway. I heard some clicks, but no starter motor activity, then saw a warning on my radio screen stating "turn ignition off or start engine." This could have been at a stoplight, leaving me as a stalled vehicle in the middle of the road had it happened in conjunction with the auto start/stop that shuts off the engine when stopped for a short period of time. I have not yet taken the truck into a dealership to have this issue looked at. This appears to be a resurfacing problem from about 2 years ago when I had electrical issues where my radio would not turn off as I got to work one morning - even though the ignition had been turned off and the driver door was open. The radio was still running when I got back to the truck in the afternoon. I was able to drive home that day, but with limited functionality of the truck. It was during a heavy rain, and the rear brake lights would not work, and the windshield wipers would not turn on. When I went down the next morning to take it into the dealership, I had to get it jump started, as the battery had died from the radio running all night long. When I got it jump started, the truck acted normally again, and I took it into the dealership and explained all of this, but they turned me away, as they told me there was nothing they could do to fix the problem if the symptoms had disappeared. There were no warnings before either of these episodes. This appears to be an electrical system failure. This problem has not been reproduced. The vehicle has not been inspected by a professional
The truck has a horrendous rattle on cold starts. I have had it in a Ford service center and they tell me it needs almost $4500 worth of work to repair the issue. They say EI36 Camshaft Sprocket-replace.
Cam phasers in engine have failed for the second time. Potential safety issue is if not repaired, could lead to catastrophic, unexpected engine failure as the cam phaser is part of the engine timing system. Prolonged driving with this issue would inevitably cause major mechanical problems which could possibly lock the engine up while driving. This would obviously be a safety issue while traveling down crowded interstates at posted speeds in any metropolitan area. Vehicle is currently at the dealer again and the problem has been confirmed. Vehicle is out of warranty at this point and the repair is over $4,500. This price will ultimately lead to many people electing to take the chance instead of pay to fix this known issue with this truck. It is a very expensive repair for a vehicle to have twice under 100K miles. There are no warnings or codes associated with this problem. The beginning stages of this problem start with a loud rattle on a cold start. I have not let this issue persist due to safety concerns of my family being in the vehicle with me. I have elected to spend the enormous amount of money to repair this issue again and hopefully when I am able, I will purchase a different vehicle.
While driving 65mph on I-495 on a +90 degree day in August my 2019 Ford F-150 Lariat 4x4, the horn of the F-150 beeped. It beeped again a couple more times then the F-150 powered down forcing me to coast through some lanes of traffic to reach the break down lane. ABS and maintenance due light were both illuminated. My code reader said a switch was shorted so I cleared codes to retest. I restarted the truck and after re-boott was able to drive the vehicle home. Not associated with this enroute power failure incident, I notice intermittent rough idle issues, a tail gate that opens by itself 24/7 with alarm and it is now normal for this F-150 to burn 3-4 quarts of extra oil between each oil change.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the driver's side air bag cover had fractured. The contact stated that the air bag cover was fractured through the middle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The dealer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 97,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was shifting hard. The contact stated that while at a red light, the vehicle hesitated and shut off. The engine warning light was illuminated. The contact placed the vehicle in park and restarted the vehicle, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was taken back to the local dealer, who performed a transmission flush, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to a transmission shop, where the failure was experienced; however, the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 64,000.
Transmission has always shift loudly into 8th gear since I bought it at 31k miles. It has 95k miles on it now. Bought it in Nov 2021 used off a Ford dealer lot. Driving a few weeks ago. Going 30 mph. Stopped at a stop sign and then made a left mildly accelerated, probably around 30mph and I was still accelerating, engine goes to redline and engine shifts down to I'm guessing first. Every dash light pops on, and the truck doesn't even show it's in drive or any gear. I pulled to the next stop sign that was not to far away. I brake and shut the truck off and put it in park. I try to start it and it doesn't work. It did not turn over at all. I got it towed to home and checked it out. The transmission control module fuse was blown. I replaced it and it blew again and again. I checked for broken wires, I did not remove anything to check. I did not see anything. Had it towed to Ford. Ford told me the transmission control module had shorted out internally and they needed to order a new transmission control module. They just got it yesterday and told me they were having trouble programming it and hoping it'd be ready tomorrow.
When transmission is cold, 4th gear shift is intermittently extremely delayed.

Chirping and ticking sound coming from rear portion of the exhaust manifold.
I have a 2019 ford f150 lariat with the 3.5 ecoboost engine. Ford issued a customer satisfaction with the F150’s regarding faulty camphasers. Ford sent this out to every owner that had a F150 made from april 15, 2019 to November 30, 2019. My specific truck was made in December 21, 2018. My truck’s vin number was not attached to that customer satisfaction program 21N03, but my truck has that exact problem. I took it to the local Ford dealership July 30, 2024 where they found I had faulty camphasers and are replacing them right now. I am currently trying to contact Ford to figure out why my truck was not notified. And not have to pay out of pocket for a problem Ford caused and created.

The transmission on this vehicle regularly hesitates, lurches and shifts gears unexpectedly. I have had multiple incidents of not being able to accelerate without a delay while in traffic and once the transmission downshifted incorrectly on the freeway which nearly caused me to lose control of the vehicle. The unexpected lack of acceleration while in live traffic and the erratic gear shifting on the highway is a safety hazard for me and for other drivers on the road.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while running cold, and warming up, the vehicle failed to shift into first gear without jerking after making several attempts. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission had failed and needed to be replaced. The dealer informed the contact that the transmission might fail between 50,000 and 100,000 due to a faulty plate. The vehicle had not been repaired due to the common failure due to parts not being available. The contact stated that several dealers and transmission shops were contacted about purchasing the part for the repair. The failure had gotten worse, and the transmission failed to shift into gear intermittently. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 101,000.

The cam phasers on my 2019 F-150 recently starting making a rattling noise on cold starts. The dealership is quoting a replacement for $4500. I received Customer Satisfaction Program 21B10, 21N03, and 21N08 updates in the mail in 2021 from Ford to have the cam phasers replaced. The recall/replacement program was extended from 2022 to January 1, 2023. Unfortunately I've had my truck in for service multiple times and was told to not replace the cam phasers if there isn't an issue. Now there is an issue after the expiration and I'm being asked to pay out of pocket.
The Ford F-150 cam phaser issue primarily affects models from 2011 to 2020 with the 3.5L EcoBoost and 5.0L V8 engines. The cam phasers, which are components in the engine's variable valve timing system, are designed to adjust the timing of the camshafts to optimize engine performance and efficiency. The problem arises when the cam phasers start to fail or become noisy, often producing a rattling or ticking sound, particularly on cold starts. This noise is due to the phasers not locking properly or wearing out prematurely, leading to improper timing adjustments. Over time, this can result in reduced engine performance, poor fuel economy, and in some cases, engine damage if not addressed. Ford has issued Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) and extended warranties for some vehicles to address this issue. In many cases, repairs involve replacing the cam phasers, timing chains, and associated components, which can be costly. The issue has led to customer dissatisfaction and several complaints, with some owners reporting multiple repairs before the problem is fully resolved. I was not sent the letter advising me of the customer satisfaction solution and now Ford wants me to pay $4,000 to resolve this issue.
transmission failure
The 10 speed transmission had two occurrences where it failed. The first was while driving the transmission went into neutral on its own and would not go into any gear. The vehicle was towed to the dealership for a new computer part before it would operate again. The second time was when I was pulling the truck behind my motorhome but this time it went from neutral into gear in its own. The vehicle was towed this way for the previous 4 years without incident. The vehicle became a safety hazard because it broke down both times where it could not be moved. A tow truck was used both times to get the vehicle out of the road. There was no warning before this happened both times. Ford had to replace the computer module the first time and the whole transmission was replaced the second time. Warranty covered the first and I had to pay $10,000 for the second repair. Since I had this happen I have talked to several people that have had the same happen to them.

Cam Phasers went bad, was told that while some vehicles from other factories feel under an extended warranty this one did not although its the same make and model for what appears to be a widespread issue.
Automatic Transmission does not shift properly. It seems like it goes into neutral in between gears. It did this while I was turning and I was almost struck in the side because truck would not go. It shifts really hard and seems like it’s being put into park. I’ve had software update and truck continues to do same thing.
Vehical shifts hard and surges forward during shifts. After sitting for a least 8 hours, the shifting will stick at 7th gear and then cycle between 1st and 7th until finally issuing a power train warning symbol (wrench). Other times it stays in 7th gear at a complete stop. This causes a slow pull out at intersections ( pulling out in 7th gear) until it slams into 3rd gear and surges forward.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving on a residential street at 15 MPH, the transmission began to shudder and stalled. The power train warning light was illuminated. The contact proceeded to pull over onto the side of the road to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was driven to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed, the contact was advised that a leak in the CDF Drum was responsible for the gears not shifting properly and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 102,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that upon attempting to start the vehicle, there was a knocking and rattling sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact related the failure with Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Certain 2017-2020 Model Year F-150, 2018-2020 Expedition, and 2018-2020 Navigator Vehicles Equipped with a 3.5L GTDI Engine Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the vehicle was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.
The transmission surges forwarded upon placing in drive during a cold startup. during driving loses power and will not engage. when this happens the gas paddle has to released so that the transmission can regain power. check engine light came on. Truck was inspected by ford dealership and was informed that the truck needs a new transmission after diagnostic was preformed.
I have had multiple repairs to my transmission including full replacement. Gears are already slipping or hesitating and its only been 1 year.
Transmission has been horrible for a couple of years, would down shift on its on while on highway at high speeds. Also would not not allow you to accelerate randomly nearly causing numerous accidents.
