Safety Concerns Regarding F150 10-Speed Transmissions: oI am deeply concerned about the safety of my F150 due to reports of accidents related to faulty 10-speed transmissions. oThe risk of sudden downshifting to 1st gear, potentially causing loss of control, poses a serious threat to me, my passengers, and other road users. oFord must address this issue promptly to ensure the safety of its customers. Transmission overheats while towing rated camper. Engine sounds like a loud sewing machine when first starting. Fear engine may explode.
Unknown Cam position sensor throwing code p0345. Replaced part week later came back. Alternator battery and starter tested fine. Started rattling week later
Transmission goes out of gear while accelerating, will stay out of gear for a few seconds, engine rev, then lurch forward when it goes into gear. Transmission will also have delayed shifting, for example will stay in second gear up to high RPM before upshifting (under slow acceleration), then slam into 4th gear.
While using remote start, the rear sliding glass window shattered and set the defroster on fire. The fire was above the rear seat where my child's car seat was.
The rear view camera failed and showed "Camera is unavailable". It is available for inspection. There is no back over prevention. The vehicle has not taken to a dealer or inspected at this time. It is scheduled for repair or replacement on 1-24-24. There was no warning or messages prior to the failure. The problem first appeared on 1-16-24.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the accelerator pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked abnormally. In addition, the contact stated that the instrument panel blinked off and on and the engine seized. The contact allowed the vehicle to stay stationary for approximately 30 minutes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact was informed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 160,000.
On Sunday Jan [XXX], I had to drive 40min to the Hospital in Oconomowoc to pick up my daughter from ER, when leaving as I was backing out of the parking spot the back window bowed outward and shattered. Glass flew everywhere both inside the truck and outward. It was very cold in Wisconsin - but the vehicle was more than warm, and the back entire window just shattered. Luckily no one was in the back seat, or they would have been seriously cut by some of the small shards of glass that came into the vehicle. There was no damage to the rear window prior, and it basically exploded for no apparent reason. It does appear Ford has been aware of this but has not placed a recall. I have tried to contact a dealer to find out if this is covered under my extended warranty but cannot seem to get ahold of just the service department to discuss further. I think Ford needs to take more responsibility for these vehicles, I have never seen anything like this in my life. This is a 2019 Ford F150 Lariat with heated defroster and slide window that exploded without cause or fault of owner. I have filed a claim with my insurance company, but it's considered a glass issue and they don't usually send out an adjuster for glass- and based on deductible would be out of pocket cost for me when I feel this is a defective issue ford should be addressing. I do have an large amount of photos, but it wont let me upload all of them. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Cam phasers, powertrain control module. While at a remote site, my engine started making a rattle when first started. Later at the remote site, the truck would not start until weather conditions improved. Upon returning home, I took the truck to my local Ford dealership where it was confirmed the cam phasers needed replacing and was done. I later found a Ford Customer Satisfaction Program notice [XXX], [XXX] and [XXX] I had received in October 2021. I had acted on that notice with the Ford Dealership in College Station, TX at the time and they said I did not need to do anything because I was not experiencing the problem at the time. The cam phasers are a known problem with this vehicle and should be recalled. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving the vehicle there was an abnormal sound coming from under the middle of the front driver’s side seat to the rear seat. The contact stated that it sounded as if something was loose and felt as if the engine was moving. The check engine warning light was briefly illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who stated the transmission needed to be diagnosed. The contact stated that the transmission was serviced several months prior to the failure by the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The contact notified the manufacturer of the failure and was informed that the vehicle mileage was over the warranty coverage. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 72,200.
My transmission started slamming down into first gear while driving down the road and almost caused me to get it hit. It also was having hard shifts and slamming into gears. I tried to get ahold of ford and they said they were months out from getting it in the shop. They finally got me in to get it looked at and they said my transmission needs replaced and it’s gonna cost almost $9000.00!! My truck only has just over 60,000 miles and they said they won’t cover it.. I seen where they have had recalls on all the year models except for the 2019. This needs to be addressed they obviously know these 10 speed transmissions are junk..
There was an update to my sync 3 system that Ford wanted me to perform by wi-fi. I did it but Ford had some bugs in the system that caused my voice recognition not to work so if I need to make a phone call I had pick up the phone. This is not safe or legal in Missouri. Ford sent out a new version but my truck would not take it for some reason. I took it to the dealer they could not update it either. Dealers said I need a new APIM that would cost me $1600 for a part that Ford broke with their messed up update. I just wanted to have this on record in case there are vehicle crashes caused by people not being able to use the hands free calling that I thought I was getting when I purchased the truck.
Rear glass in sliding window shattered to pieces while driving.
Rear Left (driver side) door would not unlock in the morning. Temps were below freezing and ice was built up on the windows and body of the truck. The door did not unlock until after the I arrived at my destination, approx 30 min away. Once the truck was warmed up, the door was able to unlock.
On start up vehicle engine rattles until oil pressure builds up. Happens every time vehicle is started. I know that this is a problem with other f150s as well.
abruptly shifts from 3 to 4 gear
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while reversing the vehicle, the rearview camera displayed a blank image. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V252000 (Back Over Prevention); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.
When my truck hit about 60,000 - 65,000 miles it started to jump into gear sometimes. It didn't feel right. It was at a low RPMs when starting to accelerate. I was planning on taking it to the dealership to have a look at it, but several months had gone by before I had an opportunity to do so. I then noticed a clanking upon a cold start. It sounded like a loose muffler. So I planned a trip to have both of these issues looked at. The Ford Dealer Service Manager told me that the cam phasers and transmission needed to be replaced. How can a vehicle with only 65,000 miles on it need almost $20,000 in repairs???!!! I went ahead and authorized the cam phaser job because I didn't realize how costly it actually was, I misunderstood the service manager. But I will not be fixing the transmission unless ford does a courtesy replacement, or a recall. I will otherwise wait until this transmission leaves me stranded on the side of the road to be raped and murdered. Everyone with this transmission is having issues. There is a class action lawsuit starting over it. I am now reading hundreds of on line complaints and watching a ridiculous amount of videos of these failures in Fords transmission and the cam phasers. Please help me. I cannot afford $20,000 in repairs and I bought a new vehicle so that I could be rest assured not to have any major repair needed so soon in its life span. I don't have the invoices yet, the Ford Dealer still has my truck in the shop.
Tail gate will not latch/lock properly. Tail gate will not latch into the closed position when pushed closed, and sometimes only partially latches. This may allow the cargo to fall on the road, putting other motorists in danger. Tail gate external latch handle remains in the open position and does not properly retract under spring pressure to the unopen position after manually opening. Tail gate latch handle must be forcibly manually closed with significant pressure to allow the tail gate to latch closed on the two side plate bosses. With out this manually effort, tail gate lock will not engage the locking bosses. If one is not careful to ensure full retraction the tail gate lock may not fully latch and could open while driving. I have Lubricated the latch handle mechanism latch locking mechanism and all joints, with no significant improvement. Defect or tolerance problem in latch mechanism is very likely. Prior recall on model year F-150’s have reported very similar problem

The vehicle has given codes P0018 and P0021 on multiple occasions. These codes are likely due to an issue with the cam phasers. This is a known issue due to a design flaw.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150 Commercial Vehicle. The contact stated while the driver was driving 65 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond and was jerking significantly. The check engine warning light and other unknown warning lights were illuminated. The driver was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact stated that there was smoke coming from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken back to the mechanic, where an unknown repair was performed; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the contact was informed that there was an excessive amount of transmission fluid inside the vehicle; however, no other failure was found. The contact stated that the vehicle was jerking, and leaking fluid, and there was smoke coming out from underneath the hood. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. Additionally, the contact sent work orders and repair bills to the manufacturer. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 139,000.
12/26/2023 Re: VIN: Case#:[XXX] I purchased this truck new 4/1/2019 and purchased a Ford Extended warranty(Ford Protect) the following month for 5 years/125K miles. This was my second F150 with the 3.5 ecoboost engine. Since that time it has been serviced continuously by Ford Dealerships . At no time during that time period under warranty has any Ford dealership mentioned that there were service bulletins out to the dealerships with regard to failing Cam phasers. From research that I have done over the weekend there is apparently a New type phaser being used on F150’s since 2021 that corrects the problem. If Ford and all of the Ford dealerships knew of this common problem why were not the Ford customers notified of the issue? I went in for an oil change last week and the technician noted a tiny sound when the engine started. I went back the following week to have a sensor replaced and the mechanics indicated that there was a camshaft/phaser problem that would cost $4200 to fix. That issue could have been fixed at any time under the extended warranty from 2021-2022 if the dealerships had notified the Ford customer by using the same phasers installed on new trucks. I received a follow up call from a Ford rep 12/28/2023 who denied that I had a Ford Protect extended warranty. I verified the policy 12/29/2023 and called Ford again who again stated that I did not have a Ford Protect Policy. Finally it took a conference call with the dealer to convince Ford who still would not agree to fix the issue. The Dealer offered to extend the policy until realizing that it had been diagnosed with a cam phaser failure stating they could not warrant an existing issue. That is exactly what the dealer did in 2019 when they sold the extended warranty on a known issue. Phasers are the critical feature that controls the timing and computer controlled oxygen input and exhaust for ecoboost engines. When they start to break down it affects the health of the engine itself. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATI

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle briefly hesitated before returning to normal functionality. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who was unable to diagnose the failure but informed the contact that the transmission control module had been reset. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, who then diagnosed a failure with the transmission, requiring that the transmission be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 81,000.
The drivers door handle was built in such a manner it leads to easy vehicle break ins. Criminals have determined it is very easy to beak door lock tumbler and open the door thru the vertical rod. This all occurs without setting off the security system of the vehicle.
Approximately 2 weeks after purchasing the truck I noticed some harsh shifting, jerking, and sudden acceleration, and hesitation issues. They were intermittent and I was advised this is not uncommon with this model vehicle. However, these issues have become more frequent and severe. Next, I noticed the gears began slipping and the truck seemed to not be able to “find” the gear it needed to be in. The transmission would slam into gear or begin slipping under acceleration. There is no rhyme or reason to it, I have not been able to pinpoint it to a specific gear or up/down shift. It simply loses power and neither the gas nor brake work. It will coast until the wrench (check engine?) symbol comes on and then the gas will function. This week the transmission has started intermittently locking into a specific gear without the ability to shift. It’s now happened 3 times. You cannot reverse or drive, the transmission puts itself in park while the dash still indicates its in drive or reverse. After parking the truck for a couple of hours, I could start and drive as usual. Most importantly, twice Saturday the truck seemed to shift out of gear, so hard my head hit the steering wheel, and lost power going 70mph on I64. I have attempted to video these events to help diagnose the issues, but obviously driving and recording are dangerous and difficult.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds, the vehicle shuddered and vibrated abnormally. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the tires were out of balance. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was then taken to the same dealer again where it was diagnosed that the driveshaft needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where it was diagnosed that the torque convertor and valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the first dealer to be diagnosed but the failure was unable to be replicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 77,000.
Transmission is slipping , it started at about 65,000 miles, just after the warrAnty expired on this. This is a known problem with the 10 speed transmission. Despite this being a known problem Ford will not, assist financially to repair this unit
While driving, rpms went high, speed dramatically decreased suddenly as transmission suddenly and without warning began changing gear. as soon as possible, I pulled into a local convenience store where I had no transmission gears at all ( 1st thru reverse ). Looking under my vehicle, I noted a stream of transmission fluid running down the parking lot. The incident caused an extremely dangerous situation as I was traveling on a major, busy 4 lane highway. Vehicle was towed to a prominent ford dealer, where a “ blown out transmission cooler fitting “ was found. “Wrench” light came on dash as vehicle began to decelerate. Transmission had similar issues regarding loss of power and gear changing issues no fewer than 3 times after this.
Starting in December of 2023 we started to get a engine light that kept coming on and off about every other week. We took the truck to the dealership for a diagnosis and Ford had told us it was an issue with the catalytic convertors throwing an error code. After the third trip into the dealership and a resetting of the code as per Ford they replaced the driver side catalytic convertor. After a few months of no issues the engine light started coming off and on again. This time the driver side was throwing the code this time. We took the truck into Ford and they reset the light. On the second time it came on after going to the dealership we contacted Ford again about the issue and they stated that a computer update was available for our truck and it would recalibrate the truck computer to help with it throwing the code because it was set at a sensitive setting and it was happening nationwide. We had stated to the dealership that Ford had said on the second attempt to fix the problem if it still persisted that they would replace the catalytic convertor. Since then they had registered the incident a third time and still no fix. Since the third visit to a dealership we have had our engine light come on and off multiple times with no help from Ford in fixing the problem and our concern is that our county is starting emissions checks for 2026 and our truck will require an expensive fix to pass emissions at our cost and no help from Ford. We understand that the catalytic convertors are part of the emissions which come with an 80,000 mile federal warranty coverage but are being pushed around with no help insight from Ford. So come December of this year it will be 2yrs since we started having issues with the exhaust system. With the last light coming back on 10/15/25 and it just turn back off 10/28/25. I had tried to upload the pictures showing how many times our light has gone off and on the last 2yrs but it had told us multiple times your site was having an error.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, the vehicle made an abnormal fluttering sound and the vehicle hesitated to start. There was no warning light illuminated. Additionally, while driving, the vehicle inadvertently lunged forward. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who replaced the spark plugs and starter; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Program: 21N03 (Cam Phaser Replacement); however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 61,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH over a bump, the vehicle made an abnormally loud banging sound. The contact stated that the vehicle then made an abnormal humming and grinding sound that persisted while driving at various speeds and coming to a complete stop. The contact stated that the failure had been recurring increasingly while coming to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was test-driven, and the dealer informed the contact that the abnormal sound originated from the rear differential. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the rear differential needed to be taken apart to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and offered to repurchase the vehicle and to partially cover the repair of the vehicle. A case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Truck uses an excessive amount of oil that would not be corrected by Ford. Due to this issue the truck failed to operate normally. It stalled in the middle of an incredibly busy intersection, causing traffic back up as well as increase safety concern for the drive of the truck as well as other drivers on the road. This has happened multiple times. Ford is aware of the engine oil consumption issue. Has expressed multiple times that it was not a problem. Attempted to fix by selling a new longer dip stick to attempt to hide the problem with excessive oil consumption.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle independently shifted into neutral(N). The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. While driving, the vehicle jerked forward unexpectedly. There was an abnormal clunking sound detected. The vehicle was driving erratically. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who informed the contact that the transmission was leaking fluid and needed to be replaced. The mechanic advised the contact to stop driving the vehicle. The contact called the local dealer, who stated that the parts to repair the vehicle were on backorder. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not covered under warranty or recall. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

I drive a 2019 Ford F-150 XLT 4WD (8 Cylinders 5 5.0L FI FFV DOHC 302 CID). During November 2023, I was experiencing the truck bucking and jerking and shutting off at red lights and stop signs. I took my truck to the dealership on November 22 to have them look at it. They replaced the starter, an almost dead battery, and a PDM reset. The PDM reset and starter were covered under my extended warranty. Upon driving my truck home, the problem continued to exist and this time much worse. I returned to the same dealership on Friday, November 24, 2023. After a diagnostic test, they found nothing, then stated a couple of people drove the vehicle and could not duplicate the problem I was complaining about which was stressful and frustrating because this problem exists almost every time I drive the vehicle, regardless of how long my trip. Driving this truck has now become a safety hazard as I almost got struck by other vehicles on more than one occasion. When I pull out from a traffic light or any business establishment, I have to keep tapping the gas peddle to get the truck moving and it doesn't move, leaving me stranded in the intersection. When the truck does move, it jerks so hard that it gives you "whiplash". This jerking motion continues during the duration of my trip, including my hour-long drive both to and from work. I took my Ford to another mechanic on December 19, 2023. The establishment sent one of their technicians to ride along with me to experience the problem for himself. I drove out of the driveway for just a few feet when again, I kept tapping the gas pedal to get the truck to move and when it did, the truck jerked violently. The technician saw what he wanted to see. I get no warning lights or messages about the failure. The technician said it was a transmission problem that he has been seeing with the years of 2017-2019 F-150 and Ford is aware of the problem but does nothing about it.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the vehicle was making an abnormal rattling sound on cold starts. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the cam phasers had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The mechanic related the failure to Customer Satisfaction Number: 21N03. An unknown dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case opened. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that raining water entered the taillights and caused an electrical short circuit in the wiring. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer and was informed that the repair was not covered. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was aware of the failure and advised the contact to reach out to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
Vehicle engine, cooling, and exhaust. Cam Phasers noise when starting
My wife and I purchased the vehicle used from a Ford dealer in 2021. The vehicle was certified used. We had no issues up until the last few months (began in the summer of 2023), but the issue has grown in severity and is random. The vehicle is equipped with an auto start/stop, which we always shut off. Recently the vehicle has been going into idle or shutting off completely and not restarting even with the start/stop disabled. This occurs a majority of the time as we are slowing down to come to a stop, but has occurred while actively driving. This has us concerned we will be in an accident because we never know when the vehicle will just shut off. We took it to a Ford dealer in October 2023 for the issue. We were told there was nothing wrong and no error codes came up. We can provide documentation for this. We finally found online forums and writings where others are dealing with the same issue, but Ford apparently "doesn't know" or can't fix it. We thought we were going crazy! If they can't fix or diagnosis their own car we don't know who will. The most recent date of the issue was 11/13/2023. When the car shuts off an error code pops up stating "Auto StartStop Shift to P Restart Engine". This is accompanied with a check engine light. When we restart it there is no longer an error code or check engine light. This vehicle is not safe! Please help before a tragedy occurs.
Truck hesitates, wants to shut of and does shut off. Wrench indicator comes off and on. Truck Shuts off at stop light and needs to be restarted.
The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked, the windshield seal detached from the vehicle, causing water to leak into the vehicle. The failure caused the instrument panel to become inoperable. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the failure was due to water damage from the detached windshield seal. The repair was pending. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
My engine light came on and within the same day my vehicle shifted extremely slow. it was difficult to merge into traffic and almost caused an accident. I took the vehicle to Mechanic and they advised the engine light was consistent with the timing chain failure . I called a local local Ford dealer. They seem to be familiar with the issue and said it would cost $4000 to fix.
Having issues with transmission shifting normally. Trouble shifting out of 1st and will jerk horribly going into 3rd gear. Was up to gear 8 and let off gas and went totally down to 5th then 4th gear as I was going down highway in traffic. Have an appointment with Ford dealership next week to see what's causing this. There has been no warning of this trouble. It just started the 1st to third jerk then progressively getting worse thru the rest of the gear shifting.
Rearview Camera and Information Screen are not functioning properly. Screen will come up to a Black Screen after starting the vehicle and the camera will not function or the camera will stay on while driving forward and will go black after driving down the highway a short distance. This problem has been occurring for a year or more and is starting to occur more often. System is up to date and local ford dealership is stating there is no problem with it. Video has been taken of the issue in which the dealership stated the video proved nothing and that was not just cause for a repair being made.
Defective 10R80 transmission shifts erratically; fall out of gear and won’t accelerate; won’t shift into drive or reverse consistently. The issue puts others at risk as the vehicle doesn’t function in a consistent manner. Yes. The transmission was replaced entirely, but the problems persist. It has not been inspected by police of insurance. No lights or messages are displayed when the issues present.
