I JUST HAD PURCHASED A 2008 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY. I HAVE DRIVEN MANY DIFFERENT VEHICLES OVER THE YEARS AND HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED SOMETHING LIKE THIS. THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND BRAKE PEDAL ARE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER AND APPROXIMATELY THE SAME LEVEL AS WELL. I WAS PUTTING ON THE BRAKE TO STOP AND IT IS TOO EASY TO KEEP PRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WHILE TRYING TO PUSH THE BRAKE PEDAL. I HAVE ONLY DRIVEN IT FOR A FEW HOURS TO TRANSPORT IT, BUT IT HAS HAPPENED FOUR TIMES IN THE FIRST SEVEN STOPS. I'M THINKING THERE SHOULD BE A FIX OR SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS SORT OF THING. IF THIS SORT OF THING IS HAPPENING TO NEW DRIVERS, IT IS A POTENTIAL HAZARD. I'M AFRAID TO LET OTHERS DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I WAS VERY FORTUNATE. I ALMOST CRASHED INTO A CAR AND A POST.
I WAS BACKING UP IN THE PARKING AREA OF MY HOUSE IN MY 2008 F250 (DIESEL), AND APPLIED THE BRAKES TO STOP AND CHANGE DIRECTION. AS I STARTED BRAKING, THE ENGINE STARTED ACCELERATING, EVEN THOUGH I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES. THE VEHICLE KEPT MOVING BACKWARD, AND I HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES AND SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL TO GET IT TO STOP MOVING BACKWARD. AFTER A FEW SECONDS THE PROBLEM STOPPED. I THEN CONTINUED ON MY WAY. THE VEHICLE HAD 37,060 MILES.
WHILE TOWING A 10,000 POUND 5TH WHEEL TRAILER I NEEDED TO SPEED UP TO MERGE INTO THE LEFT LANE. THE TRUCK WAS ON CRUISE CONTROL SET AT 50 MPH. I STEPPED DOWN AND ENTERED PASSING GEAR. AFTER THE MERGE I LET OFF THE THROTTLE BUT THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE IN PASSING GEAR. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES BUT THE CRUISE CONTROL WOULD NOT RELEASE AND THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I TRIED REPEATEDLY TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE USING THE BRAKES. I THEN PRESSED THE CRUISE CONTROL "OFF" BUTTON REPEATEDLY TO NO AVAIL. AT THIS POINT I PRESSED AND HELD THE BRAKE PEDAL AS HARD AS I COULD WHILE THE DIESEL ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE AT MAX POWER. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW TO ABOUT 30 MPH BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTED TO OVERCOME THE FADING BRAKES. AT THIS POINT I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND COASTED TO A STOP. I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE TWICE AND IT IMMEDIATELY STARTED AT MAX THROTTLE AND I IMMEDIATELY TURNED THE KEY OFF. I CALLED FORD FOR A TOW. AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE AND IT STARTED NORMALLY SO I CANCELLED THE TOW. THE TRUCK SEEMS TO BE WORKING NORMALLY AND CRUISE ALSO WORKS NORMALLY. I HAVEN'T TRIED TO ENTER PASSING GEAR WHILE IN CRUISE AND WON'T AS THIS INCIDENT ALMOST CAUSE ME TO HAVE A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. I PLAN TO TAKE THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER TO BE ANALYZED. THIS WAS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM AND COULD EASILY HAVE CAUSED A FATAL ACCIDENT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-250. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP SIGN AT 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
THE CRUISE CONTROL FAILED TO TURN OFF. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS OF HIGHWAY DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL TURNED ON, I WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF BY USING THE CRUISE CONTROL ON/OFF SWITCH OR BY BRAKING. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO TURN THE CRUISE CONTROL OFF IT FINALLY TURNED OFF BY BRAKING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH, THE TRUCK INSTANTLY "TOOK OFF", THE TACHOMETER WENT TO BETWEEN 5500 & 6000 RPM, AND SPEED INCREASED TREMENDOUSLY TO ALMOST 90MPH. I TAPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE BRAKE TO TRY TO INTERRUPT WHAT WAS OCCURRING. I PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, WHERE THE RPMS DROPPED TO 3000. I TURNED THE TRUCK OFF IN HOPES OF RESETTING WHATEVER HAD JUST OCCURRED. WHEN I STARTED THE TRUCK BACK UP, IT IMMEDIATELY BEGAN DOING WHAT IT WAS DOING BEFORE. I PLACED THE TRUCK INTO "DRIVE" AND ATTEMPTED TO GET OUT OF THE ROADWAY. AT THIS TIME, EVERYTHING RETURNED TO "NORMAL". I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP (UNIVERSITY FORD, DURHAM NC). THEY DETERMINED WITHIN 40 MINUTES THAT IT WAS THE FLOOR MAT. HOWEVER, I HAVE TRIED FOR MORE THAN AN HOUR TODAY TO RECREATE A FLOOR MAT ACCELERATOR STICKING WITHOUT SUCCESS. I HAVE ALSO BEEN UNABLE TO RECREATE THE MAXIMUM RPMS THAT I EXPERIENCED WITH MY FOOT IN A NORMAL DRIVING POSITION. THIS IS THE FIRST AND ONLY OCCURRENCE, BUT I DO NOT AGREE THAT IT WAS A FLOOR MAT PROBLEM OR THAT MY ISSUE WAS TAKEN SERIOUSLY. THE SERVICE REP (KENNETH) ADVISED THAT THE TRUCK DID NOT PROVIDE ANY COMPUTER CODES INDICATING A PROBLEM, SO THERE WAS DEFINITELY NOTHING WRONG WITH THE TRUCK OTHER THAN THE FLOOR MAT BEING OUT OF POSITION. *TR
MY 2008 FORD F-250 SUPER DUTY HAS A GAS PEDAL THAT STICKS TO THE FLOOR MAKING YOU GO FULL THROTTLE. THIS HAS HAPPENED SO OFTEN THAT I AM USED TO THROWING THE TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL TO STOP FROM HITTING PEOPLE AND THEN KICKING THE GAS PEDAL UNTIL IT RELEASES. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY FIND NOTHING WRONG THAT THEY CAN FIX, THEY THINK THE CARPETING IS CATCHING THE PEDAL. *TR
THE TRUCK WILL GO TO REGENERATION MODE WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND IN DRIVE . CAUSING THE TRUCK TO JUST ABOUT TO TAKE OFF INTO TRAFFIC. THE DEALER HAS TRY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM 3 TIMES AND IT HAS NOT WORKED. *TR
