A FEWS DAYS AFTER PURCHASE THE ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN CONTINUALLY ON, UNABLE TO DETERMINE PROBLEM. MJS
DESIGN OF THE MIRRORS (CONVEX) DO NOT ALLOW THE CONSUMER TO SEE PROPERLY, AND IS UNABLE TO ADJUST THE MIRROS. AN ACCIDENT COULD RESULT DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY OR BLIND SPOT. DEALER / MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT NOTHING CAN BE DONE. NHTSA NEEDS TO LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. *AK

MY NAME IS DIANNE MCCULLAR. ADDRESS IS 5223 SOLAR RIDGE DR. COLORADO SPRINGS, CO 80917. (719)574-2029 MY 1979 FORD BRONCO VIN#U15HLEJ5445 WAS HIT BY THE ABOVE MENTIONED TRUCK ON 05/23/99. THE OWNER LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE WHEN THE STEERING SHAFT/STEERING GEAR BOX SHEARED APART. MY TRUCK WAS PARKED AT THE TIME. $5100 OF DAMAGE WAS DONE TO MY TRUCK. TIG INSURANCE HAS DETERMINED THAT THE COLLISION WAS DUE TO A FORD PART THAT IS UNDER RECALL (#98S17). DUE TO THEM DETERMINING THAT THIS WAS CAUSED BY MECHANICAL DEFECT, TIG INSURANCE HAS DENIED MY CLAIM FOR DAMAGE TO MY TRUCK AND I AM HAVING TO PURSUE FORD DIRECTLY. CONSUMER STATED HE EXPERIENCED INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS WITH THE ABS WARNING LIGHT FOR OVER 16 MONTHS BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS ACTUALLY DIANOSED AS BEING A FAILED ABS MODULE, CONSUMER STATED THERE WOULD ALSO BE A POPPING NOISE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED.*JB
DEFECTIVE RELAY MODULE WHICH IS ATTACHED TO THE SIDEWALL IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUGHT ON FIRE. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
I FEEL THERE IS A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE PARKING BRAKE SYSTEM ON MY VEHICLE. I HAVE SPOKEN TO OWNERS OF SIMILAR AND ALL SEEM TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. WHEN THE PAKING BRAKE IS APPLIED IT IS INSUFFICIENT TO HOLD THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING.
SEVERE DRIVER SIDE REAR BRAKE ROTOR DESTRUCTION FROM CALIPER MOUNTED ON FRONT OF ROTOR, PREVENTING SELF CLEANING OF MUD, FROM ROTOR FACE. ROTOR IS DESTROYED BY ABRASIVE ACTION OF GRIT HELD IN PLACE AGAINST ROTOR BY FORWARD MOTION OF WHEELS. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ENCOUNTERED IN OUR OTHER TWO 1999 FORDS (1-F550 AND 1-F450). OUR COMPANY OPERATES A FLEET OF 50 VEHICLES IN OFFROAD OILFIELD SERVICE TRUCKING. WE HAVE 33 YEARS EXPERIENCE IN THIS TYPE OF OFFROAD VEHICLE USE. THIS PROBLEM IS THE MOST SEVERE ENGINEERING PROBLEM WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED IN OUR EXPERIENCE. THIS MUST BE ADDRESSED BY FORD AND AN ENGINEERING CHANGE MUST BE MADE. CERTAIN INJURIES AND DEATHS WILL PROBABLY OCCUR DURING HIGH SPEED BRAKE APPLICATIONS IF THE DISC PAD LOCKS INTO THE FORGED COOLING WEB OF THE ROTOR. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS OFTEN WON'T TURN OFF. AT TIMES I HAVE TO PULL THE FUSS TO STOP THE WIPERS, AND REPLACE THE FUSS TO START THEM AGAIN. I HAD IT IN TO THE DEALER TWO TIMES, THEY FIRST REPLACED THE WIPER MOTOR, THIS DID NOT FIX IT, SO THE NEXT TRIP IN, THEY REPLACE THE SWITCH, THIS HAS NOT FIXED IT.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE BRAKING FADING AND VIBRATION. CONTACTED DEALERS, WHO STATED THAT BRAKES COULD NOT COULD NOT BE FIXED, AND WOULDN'T BE FIXED. *AK
CLUTCH LOCKS UP AND ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO SHIFT GEARS. FAILURES OCCUR WITHOUT ANY WARNING WHEN THE CLUTCH DISC SPRING POCKETS BREAK, JAMMING THE CLUTCH. IF THIS HAPPENS IN TRAFFIC IT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. FORD ADMITS THAT THERE IS A FAILURE PROBLEM WITH CLUTCH DISC. CONSUMER SAYS CLUTCHES ARE LASTING 25K MILES BETWEEN FAILURES. *AK *ML
BRAKES: BRAKES FADE EASILY AND WILL PULL TO THE LEFT. BRAKES ALSO SHAKE AND SHUDDER THE WHOLE VEHICLE AND SURGE GRABBING AND UNGRABBING WHEN COMING TO A STOP. THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES AND BRAKE PEDAL PULSATES. BRAKES BEGAN PROBLEM WITH VERY FEW MILES NEVER LOADED OR PULLING. RESULTS IN UNSAFE BRAKING. SEAT BELT: DRIVERS SEATBELT HANGS DOWN AND GETS CAUGHT IN BOTTOM OF DOOR. YOU SHUT YOUR DOOR, FASTEN THE BELT NOT KNOWING IT IS STUCK IN DOOR. IN SUDDEN STOPS, THE BELT PULLS FREE WITH MUCH SLACK REMAINING POSSIBLY ALLOWING YOUR BODY TO GO THROUGH WINDSHIELD. BELT TWISTS VERY EASILY, AND BOTTOM PIVOT/ANCHOR TURNS EASILY ALLOWING BELT TO HANG DOWN IN DOOR. MUST FIDDLE WITH IT EACH TIME EXITING THE VEHICLE AND MUST DOUBLE CHECK IT IS NOT STUCK IN DOOR. TRANSMISSION: AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DID NOT DISENGAGE IN COLD WEATHER CAUSING VEHICLE TO STALL AT INTERSECTION NEARLY CAUSING ACCIDENT SEVERAL TIMES. TRANSMISSION ALSO SHIFTS IN AND OUT OF GEAR WHILE GOING INTO OVERDRIVE ERRATICALLY. IT WILL GO IN AND OUT OF OVERDRIVE SEVERAL TIME WITHING A SECOND OR TWO CAUSING THE VEHICLE AND PASSENGERS TO JERK BACK AND FORTH SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY.
WHEN DRIVING & STARTING TO BRAKE, BRAKES WOULD PULSATE & VIBRATE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER & MECHANIC INDICATED BRAKE ROTORS & SHOES WERE INADEQUATE FOR VEHICLE. THE ROTORS WERE WARPING, AND WERE TURNED. CALIPERS & SHOES WERE REPLACED. PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. ROTORS/CALIPERS & SHOES WERE REPLACED AGAIN FOR THE 4TH TIME. HEAT FROM SIZE OF TRUCK WOULD WARP ROTORS. DEALER WAS ORDING HEAVY DUTY BRAKE ROTORS/ CALIPERS & SHOES.*AK
WHILE STEPPING ON BRAKE PEDAL, LOST ALL STERRING CONTROL-UNABE TO STEER VECHICLE. *AK
WHILE PRESSING ON BRAKES, VEHICLE FAILS TO STOP, CAUSING EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. VEHICLE ALSO PULLS TO LEFT OR RIGHT WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK THE MANUFACTURER SAYS THAT THE HEAVY WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE CAUSED THE BRAKE PROBLEM. ALSO, ROUGH ROADS CONFUSE THE COMPUTER RESULTING IN BRAKE PEDAL GOING TO THE FLOOR. *YH
ABS BRAKES; WHEN PUSHING ON THE BRAKES CONSUMER CANNOT TURN THE WHEEL. *AK
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES DRIVER CAN'T TURN THE WHEEL. ABS BRAKE FAILURE. *ML
YOU CAN NOT TURN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE YOUR FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. LIKE WHEN YOU NEED TO PARK PULL IN OR OUT OF YOUR DRIVEWAY GO AT A VERY SLOW SPEED AND TURN. IF YOU HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL AND APPLY THE BRAKES AS IF A KID RUN INTO THE ROAD YOU COULD NOT DO THAT. *AK
TRANSMISSION SLIPS IN REVERSE. *AK
WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TO WORK PROPERLY WHILE IN USE DURING IN RAINY WEATHER. THIS CAUSED POOR VISIBILITY FOR THE DRIVER. REMOVED THE FUSE TO WINDSHIELD WIPERS. WILL BE TAKING TO DEALER TO HAVE WIPERS CHECKED. *AK
1. THE ENGINE IS STARVED OF AIR WHEN DRIVEN ON SNOW AND ICE. SNOW GETS PACKED IN THE AIR CLEANER BOX AND FREEZES. THE AIR INTAKE IS PULLED FROM THE WHEEL WELL. 2. ROAD DEBRIS AND ROCKS LOAD UP THE BOTTOM OF ALL DOORS. WEATHERSTRIPPING IS REQUIRED. *AK
AT 55 MPH TRUCK BECAME SLUGGISH/HARD TO STEER WHILE ROUNDING CURVE. STEERING SEEMED TO BE UNRESPONSIVE AND RESULTED IN HEAD ON COLLISION WHICH RESULTED IN 1 DEATH IN THE ONCOMING VEHICLE. MY TRUCK OVERTURNED UPON IMPACT, AND WAS TAKEN TO TRAUMA CENTER WITH CUTS/BRUISES AND HEAD WOUND.
VEHICLE WAS WANDERING, AND IT WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. DEALER THOUGHT IT NEEDED AN ALIGNMENT. VEHICLE CONTINUED TO WANDER . DEALER SAID IT WAS STEERING. REALIZED IT WAS A PROBLEM, BUT HAD NO REMEDY. *AK
PARKING BRAKE WHEN APPLIED DOES NOT WORK. VEHICLE WILL ROLL IF NOT IN GEAR WHEN PARKING BRAKE IS APPLIED. *AK
OCCUPANT RECEIVED THREE DIFFERENT LOADS; 3340 LETTER WHICH IS IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL, 4450 AT THE DEALER, AND 4026 FROM THE RV NOTE, WHICH IT CAN HAUL. MANUFACTURER DOES NOT KNOW THE REQUIREMENT WHICH MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD F-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ROLL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE PARKING BRAKE WAS REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE DEFECT WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.

AT 10009 MILES I HAD BRAKE SHUTTER(VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE) WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THIS WOULD OCCUR MORE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO A FORD DEALER ( MONACO FORD 767 NEW LONDON TNPK PO BOX 110 GLASTONBURY CT 06033 PHONE 1-800-727-2377)AND THEY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS I HAVE REPEATEDLY HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE DEALER HAS REPEATEDLY REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. I HAVE LISTED THE DATES AND MILEAGE. SECOND OCCURENCE JUNE 1999 MILEAGE 22876. THIRD OCCURRENCE JUNE 1999 MILEAGE 24225. FOURTH, OCT 1999 MILEAGE 36370. FIFTH, JAN 2000 MILEAGE 46492. IN FEB OF THIS YEAR THE PROBLEM CAME BACK AGAIN AND I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY STATED TO ME THAT THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO AND FORD WASN'T GIVING THEM ANY MORE INPUT SO THEY HAD TO TAKE THE STANCE THAT THERE WASN'T ANYTHING ELSE THEY COULD DO FOR ME. I CONTACTED THE FORD CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS AND WAS REPEATEDLY TOLD THAT THE TRUCK WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO FOR ME EVEN THOUGH THEY REALIZED THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE 10000 MILES. ONE OF THE PHONE REPS AT C.A.C. DID TELL ME THAT FORD REALIZED THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM BUT THEY DID NOT HAVE A FIX FOR IT AT THIS TIME. HER NAME WAS SHIRLEEN(THIS WAS ON OR ABOUT FEB 21 2000). WE SHE STATED THAT FORD HAD AGKNOLEDGED THE ONGOING PROBLEM, SHE TOLD ME THAT FORD WOULD CONTINUE TO REPAIR MY TRUCK DISPITE THE EXPIRATION OF ITS WARRANTY. THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO WORSEN AND AT THIS TIME THE TRUCK VIOLENTLY SHAKES WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES AT ALL SPEEDS OVER 40 MPH AND I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY IF I WERE TO INCURE A PANIC BRAKING SITUATION. I HAVE DESPARATLY TRIED TO CONTACT A FORD REPRESENTATIVE THROUGH THE C.A.C. AND THE DEALER BUT THEY ARE UNABLE TO PUT ME IN CONTACT WITH SOMEONE FROM FORD. THEREFOR BECAUSE OF THE LACK OF CONTACT FROM FORD I HAVE BEEN FORCED TO CONTACT MY ATTORNEY TO HELP ME WITH THIS MATTER. A WRITTEN SUPLIMENT WILL FOLLOW.
WHILE DRIVING 30MPH ON WASHBOARD ROAD WHEN VEHICLE WENT OFF SIDE OF ROAD. HIT SOME TREES & PUSHED FRONT BUMPER BACK 13-15 INCHES. DRIVER HIT HEAD ON WINDSHIELD. UPON IMPACT WITH TREES, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *AK
WHEN VEHICLE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, STEERING BECOMES DIFFICULT. TURNING STEERING WHEEL QUICKLY, CAUSES STEERING WHEEL TO MOMENTARILY LOCK UP. A SECOND AND RELATED PROBLEM IS AN EXCESSIVELY SOFT SUSPENSION SYSTEM. WHEN A QUICK TURN IS REQUIRED, THESE TWO PROBLEMS MENTIONED HERE, IN MY OPINION AND EXPERIENCES, COMBINED, CREATE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. *AK
FUEL FILTER FAILURE RESULTED IN HIGH PRESSURE FUEL LEAK THAT FLOODED THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WITH DIESEL FUEL. APPROXIMATELY 10 TO 12 GALLONS PUMPED FROM TANK AT HIGH PRESSURE, AND SPRAYED ALL OVER ENGINE AND ENGINE COMPARTMENT. PROBLEM WAS NOT NOTICED AFTER PICKING VEHICLE UP FROM ROUTINE SERVICE. NOTICED PUNGENT ODOR WHICH INTENSIFIED AS I WAS DRIVING HOME. DEALER STATED THEY DID NOT SERVICE FUEL FILTER. WHEN VEHICLE WAS PICKED TO BE RETURNED TO THE DEALER, DIESEL FUEL CAME SPILLING OFF THE TOP OF THE ENGINE. DIESEL FUEL HAS PENETRATED THE VENTILATION SYSTEM AND GOT ALL OVER FRONT SUSPENSION PARTS REMOVING PAINT FROM THESE PARTS. FAILURE OF FUEL FILTER AND RESULTANT LEAK COULD HAVE RESULTED IN A FIRE, THANK GOD IT DID NOT HAPPEN (NOTE- FUEL LEAK WAS OCCURING WHILE I WAS DRIVING HOME). WILL BE HAPPY TO DISCUSS THIS ISSUE VIA TELEPHONE TO GIVE MORE DETAILS. *AK

CONSUMER APPLIED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, PLACED TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND STATED THE TRUCK, SOON AFTER THE TRUCK SURGED FORWARD INTO BOATHOUSE.
WE FEEL THIS TRUCK IS A LEMON AND WE WANT SOMEONE TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT WE HAVE GONE THROUGH WITH THIS TRUCK, WE HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT TROUBLE WITH IT, IT IS UNRELIABLE.NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED. *AK
AIR INTAKE GETS CLOGGED WITH SNOW RESULTING IN ENGINE FAILURE. DEALERSHIP DENIES THERE IS A PROBLEM.
THERE IS TOO MUCH PLAY IN THE STEERING, ESPECIALLY WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. STEERING MOVED EITHER SIDE JUST A BIT, AND CONSUMER TRIED TO CORRECT, THEN LOST CONTROL. *AK
FASTENER CLIP THAT HOLDS THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS OMITTED AT THE FACTORY, CAUSING THE PEDAL TO FALL OFF WITHOUT WARNING, RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. *AK *ML
DEFECTIVE AIR INTAKE VALVE MALFUNCTIONED, CAUSING THE AIR TO BE CLOGGED UP, AND RESULTING IN VEHICLE STALLING UNEXPECTEDLY WHICH MAY CAUSE A CRASH. THIS YEAR'S NEW PRODUCATION HAS BEEN MODIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
THE CONSUMER HAS BEEN EXPERIENCING PROBLEMS WITH THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS WHICH RESULTS IN NOISE. THE BOLT THAT HOLDS THE LEAF SPRINGS ARE LOOSE. THE MANUFACTURER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, BET NO RESPONSE. DEALER SAID IT WAS A LOCK NUT. HE REPLACED THE NUT AND WE CONTINUE TO CHECK. *AK.ET.
WHILE DRIVING AND BRAKING HARD SUDDENLY, VEHICLE SLID. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS ON ICE.VEHICLE SUDDENLY WENT TO EXTREME RIGHT. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A CRASH. DEALER WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, AND TRYING TO COME TO A SOLUTION. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

SERVICE MANAGER HAS CONSULTED WITH FORD AND FORD CLAIMS NOTHING WRONG AND NOTHING NEEDS FIXING. SERVICE MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGES PROBLEM AND NUMEROUS SERVICE BULLETINS FROM FORD WHICH INDICATE A PROBLEM. STEERING PRESENTS A SAFETY PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN APPLYING HEAVY PRESSURE TO BRAKE WHILE DRIVING THE STEERING BECOMES EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN, CAUSING DIRECTIONAL PROBLEMS. NM
I WAS INVOLVED IN A SERIOUS AUTO ACCIDENT ON 11/17/98. I TOPPED A HILL AND WAS STRUCK HEADON BY TRUCK DRIVING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE BLOW WAS SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT IT BROKE TIE RODS AND SUSPENSION RODS ON MY TRUCK. I THEN WENT FURTHER DOWN THE ROAD AND DOWN A 20 FT EMBANKMENT, STRIKING A LARGE PINE TREE. THOUGH BOTH IMPACTS WERE ON THE FRONT OF THE TRUCK AND THE TRUCK WILL LIKELY BE TOTALED (1999 TRUCK), THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. CALLS TO THE DEALER AND TO FORD CONSUMER DEPARTMENT WERE IGNORED. I THINK THAT FORD HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIR BAGS ON THE NEW TRUCKS. I CHECKED MY STICKER AND IT INDICATED THAT AIR BAGS WERE PART OF THE EQUIPMENT.
