STILL HAVING THE "DEATH WOBBLE" ISSUE AFTER SPENDING $1K AT THE DEALERSHIP TO FIX THIS ISSUE. NOT EVEN 3000 MILES LATER IT IS HAPPENING AGAIN WORSE AND MORE FREQUENT THAN BEFORE. I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROX. 70 MPH AND AFTER HITTING A BRIDGE EXPANSION JOINT I NEARLY LOST CONTROL.
THE TRUCK DEVELOPED A DEATH WOBBLE, WHICH IS COMMONLY EXPLAINED ON THE INTERNET AND HAS SEEMED TO PLAGUE FORD SUPERDUTYS WITH SOLID FRONT AXLES. MY DEATH WOBBLE DEVELOPED WHILE STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, WHICH WAS EXPLAINED IN DETAIL WITH SYMPTOMS AND EXPERIENCE. DEALER CLAIMS THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF SUCH A PROBLEM. IN THE END THEY REPLACED THE STEERING STABILIZER, WHICH ULTIMATELY DID NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE EXPERIENCED DEATH WOBBLE CAN ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS FRIGHTENING, IT BEARS NO WARNING AND HAPPENS IN A SPLIT SECOND. THE DEATH WOBBLE HAS ONLY OCCURED AT SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 50MPH. THE SIMPLIEST EXPLAINATION IS THAT ANY BUMP IN THE ROAD, LARGE OR SMALL, CAN UPSET THE VEHICLE AND SEND IT INTO A VIOLENT SHAKE, SHUTTER AND OCSILATION THAT IS UNCONTROLLABLE TO AVOID, STOP OR CONTROL THE OCCURANCE. THIS SCARIEST PART IS THIS HAPPENS ON THE HIGHWAY FREQUENTLY WITH SPEEDS IN EXCESS OF 70MPH AND THE ONLY RECOURSE IS TO SLOW DOWN AND MANUEVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. THE DEATH WOBBLE OFFERS NO CONTROL OR STEERING CAPABILITIES TO THE VEHICLE. FORTUNATELY MY SPOUSE OR KIDS WILL NEVER DRIVE THIS TRUCK FOR FEAR OF WHAT COULD HAPPEN.. UNFORTUNATELY MY FAMILY DOES HAVE TO TRAVEL IN THIS VEHICLE AS IT IS A DAILY DRIVER. THE FACT THAT THIS IS AN EXTREME FLAW, DEFECT AND DANGER IS ONLY COMPOUND WHEN YOUR ONLY RECOURSE TO STOP THE VIOLENT WOBBLE IS TO PULL OVER OR STOP IMMEDIATELY ONLY ADDS TO THE DANGERS OF THE UNCERTAINTY OF TRAFFIC AROUND YOU.
'TAKSTA RECALL' MY OIL PAN IS LEAKING IT'S BETTER TO HAVE GASKET NOT SEALER
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-350. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE SHOOK VIOLENTLY. THE STEERING WHEEL SHOOK SO BADLY TO THE POINT THAT IT COULD NOT BE HELD. THE CONTACT SLOWED THE VEHICLE DOWN AND DROVE TO NEWINS BAY SHORE FORD (219 W MAIN ST, BAY SHORE, NY 11706). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO CORNERSTONE FORD CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (17219 US-10, ELK, MN 55330) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DEF SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED OR THE VEHICLE WOULD EVENTUALLY GO INTO LIMP MODE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE DEF SYSTEM, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED EIGHTEEN MONTHS LATER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE DEALER WAS ALSO CONTACTED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE DEF SYSTEM WAS REPLACED AGAIN. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
MY FORD F350 SUPER DUTY 4WD HAS HAD THE FRONT END REBUILT 3 TIMES FOR WHAT IS COMMONLY CALLED THE "DEATH WOBBLE". DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 60 TO 75 MPH ON STRAIGHT DRY PAVEMENT THE FRONT END WHEELS WILL START AN OSCILLATING AND UP AND DOWN MOVEMENT THAT IS SO VIOLENT THAT IT IS DIFFICULT TO HOLD ON TO THE STEERING WHEEL. THE SHAKING OF THE VEHICLE IS SO PRONOUNCED THAT ITEMS FLY OUT OF DOOR POCKETS, THE CONSOLE AND CUP HOLDERS. VEHICLES BEHIND ME AND NEXT TO ME ARE FORCED TO APPLY THEIR BRAKES IN AN EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO A POSSIBLE COLLISION. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM OVER MULTIPLE YEAR MODELS AND FORD IS DOING NOTHING TO SOLVE IT. YOU CAN SEARCH THE INTERNET FOR "FORD DEATH WOBBLE" AND VIEW MANY VIDEOS TAKEN OF THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT HIGH SPEED I NOTICED MY CAR PULLING TO ONE SIDE AND THEN MY LOW TIRE PRESSURE COME ON .WHEN I GOT TO A SAFE LOCATION I LOOKED AT MY FRONT PASSENGER TIRE AND SAW IT WAS LOW. I PUT AIR IN IT, AFTER RETURNING TO MY CAR IT WAS LOW AGAIN. I PUT AIR IN IT AGAIN, DROVE TO THE SHOP TO GET MY TIRE LOOKED AT AND THEY SAID THERE IS A CRACK IN THE MIDDLE OF THE RIM. THEY SAID THEY HAVE NOT SEEN THIS BEFORE ON THEI TYPE OF TRUCK (KNOWN FOR HAULING HEAVY LOADS), AND THEY HAD TO ORDER A BRAND NEW RIM. OF COURSE MY TRUCK IS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRENTY, THAT'S WHEN THINGS TEND TO GO BAD. IM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THIS BEING A MANAFACTOR DEFECT DUE TO WHERE THE CRACK IS LOCATED. I'M ALSO VERY CONCERNED FOR THE SAFETY OF ME AND OTHERS DUE TO THE AREA WHERE WE LIVE, HOW WE USE HIGH SPEED HIGHWAYS TO GET AROUND, WHAT WE ACTUALLY USE THE TRUCK FOR, AND OTHERS. ALTHOUGH NOBODY WAS HURT, IT COULD HAVE BEEN A CATASTROPHE. PLEASE HELP ME UNDERSTAND HOW SOMETHING LIKE THIS COULD OCCUR ON THIS TYPE OF HEAVY DUTY TRUCK. 2013 F350 FRONT END VIOLENT SHAKING AFTER RUNNING OVER A BUMP ON HIGHWAY GOING 60 MPH,THIS MADE THE TRUCK LOSE ALL STEERING CONTROL. WITH APPLIED BRAKING THE SITUATION ONLY GOT WORSE. THE VEHICLE ENDED UP ON THE CENTER LINE CREATING A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WITH OTHER VEHICLES AROUND. WE ONLY GAINED CONTROL OF THE SITUATION WHEN THE VEHICLE SLOWED TO 45 MPH. THIS SITUATION OCCURRED TWICE IN ONE DAY.
WHILE TOWING OUR FIFTH-WHEEL TRAILER WITH OUR FORD F350 DRW TRUCK, THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER (DPF) CAUGHT FIRE. WHILE TOWING OUR FIFTH-WHEEL, WE TURNED FROM THE HIGHWAY ONTO A CITY STREET IN MESA, AZ. WE HEARD A LOUD "POP" AND THOUGHT WE BLEW A TIRE. AFTER PULLING OVER AND CHECKING THAT ALL TIRES WERE FINE, WE CONTINUED ON. WE NOTICED REDUCED POWER TO THE TRUCK AND THE TURBO BOOST WAS ZERO. WE PULLED OVER AGAIN TO LOOK FOR SIGNS OF A PROBLEM. WE LOOKED UNDER THE HOOD AND DID NOT SEE ANY OBVIOUS HOSES BLOWN OR ISSUES. THE TRUCK WAS STILL RUNNING, SO WE CONTINUED ON SLOWLY AS WE WERE ALMOST HOME. NEAR ELLSWORTH/THOMAS ROAD IN MESA, I GOT A NOTICE, "REDUCED ENGINE POWER," AS MY 14YO SON YELLED, "THERE'S SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE TRUCK." WE PULLED OVER AGAIN AND MY WIFE AND SON SAW FLAMES SHOOTING OUT OF THE TAILPIPE AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM WAS GLOWING RED HOT. THE DPF WAS BLOWING FLAMS OUT TOWARDS THE GROUND. WE EMPTIED A FIRE EXTINGUISHER WITH NO EFFECT. OUR TRAILER HAS A WATER HOSE SO WE SPRAYED WATER ON IT FOR ABOUT 10 MIN TO COOL IT DOWN AND STOP IT FROM REIGNITING. WE DID NOT CALL POLICE AS MY WIFE AND I SHARE NEARLY 40 YEARS OF LAW ENFORCEMENT EXPERIENCE. WE EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE AND CALLED FOR A TOW. AFTER $10,000 IN REPAIRS, WE HAVE RECEIVED NO RESPONSE FROM FORD. WE HAVE NOT FILED AN INSURANCE CLAIM YET AND ARE WORKING TO CONTACT FORD AGAIN. FORD KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DEF/DPF SYSTEMS. DRIVERS HAVE NO INSTRUMENTATION TO SEE THE TEMP READINGS ON THE FOUR TEMP GAUGES ALONG THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. HOW ARE THERE NO ERROR CODES OR NOTICES WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON FIRE??? MY AND MY WIFE'S EXPERIENCE HANDLING EMERGENCIES PREVENTED A TOTAL LOSS OF OUR VEHICLE AND POTENTIAL DEATH OF OUR FAMILY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD F-350 SD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC FUNCTION OF THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE MIRROR WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY WHEN IT WAS ADJUSTED USING THE CONTROL BUTTONS. THE DEALER (TOWNSEND SALES & SERVICE, 340 MAIN ST, TOWNSEND, MA 01469, (978) 597-8955) WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICING, BUT THEY FAILED TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE ELECTRONIC FAILURE. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT THEY SERVICED THE MIRROR UNDER A WARRANTY, BUT PROVIDED NO SPECIFIC ANALYSIS OF WHAT WAS DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY INDICATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND SUGGESTED THAT THE CONTACT TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 27,000.
A FORD TRUCK "DEATH WOBBLE" ALLEGES F-250 AND F-350 TRUCKS HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING LINKAGE AND SUSPENSION SYSTEMS. THE PROPOSED CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT INCLUDES CURRENT AND FORMER OWNERS AND LESSEES OF 2005-2019 FORD F-250 AND F-350 TRUCKS. HOWEVER, THE PLAINTIFF SAYS THE FORD DEALERSHIP DENIED THE WOBBLE PROBLEM AND REFUSED TO REPAIR THE TRUCK UNDER WARRANTY. THE FORD TRUCK DEATH WOBBLE LAWSUIT WAS FILED IN THE U.S. DISTRICT COURT FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF CALIFORNIA - WILLIAM LESSIN, ET AL., V. FORD MOTOR COMPANY.
WHEN SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE WHEN PARKING A TRAILER OR POSITING THE TRUCK IN A PARKING SPACE THE ENGINE WILL GO FULL THROTTLE AND WILL SPIN THE REAR WHEELS EVEN WITH YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE WITH NO WARNING. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP THE ENGINE IS TO TURN THE KEY OFF PUTTING IN PARK OR NEUTRAL DOES NOTHING. HAVE CALLED SEVERAL FORD DEALERS AND WAS TOLD THAT IF NO CODE WAS SET THEY COULD NOT HELP. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AND THIS HAS HAPPENED 10 TIMES TO ME. IF SOMEONE ELSE WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK THEY WOULD MOST LIKELY RUN INTO SOMEONE OR SOMETHING. EVEN HOLDING THE BRAKE THE TRUCK STILL WILL MOVE OR SPIN THE REAR WHEELS DEPENDING ON THE ROAD SERVICE WHEN THIS DIESEL GOES FULL THROTTLE. NOT SAFE AT ALL. NEED SOME HELP GETTING THIS FIXED. HAS DONE IT WHEN SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE AND OR JUST GOING FROM PARK INTO DRIVE. NO REAL PATTERN WILL DO IT IN HOT WEATHER AND COLD WEATHER TEMP DOES NOT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I HAVE LEARNED TO JUST REACH DOWN AND TURN THE KEY OFF WHEN THIS HAPPENS WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND IN GEAR. WILL START BACK UP AND BE AT NORMAL ENGINE SPEED. I HAVE TRIED TO MAKE IT DO THIS BY SHIFTING FROM DRIVE TO REVERSE BUT HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO MAKE THE ISSUE ACCRUE IT JUST HAPPENS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MALL OF GEORGIA FORD (4525 NELSON BROGDON BLVD NE, BUFORD, GA 30518, (678) 515-9339) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RESTRAINT CONTROL MODULE NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,650.
WHILE OUR TRUCK ON A NORMAL HIGHWAY WITH MINOR IRREGULARITIES AND SOME ROUGH SURFACES AT A SPEED OF 60 TO 70 MPH, THE TRUCK WILL START TO OSCILLATE TO THE POINT OF INDUCING A VIOLENTLY STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY AND AN UNCONTROLLABLE BOUNCE OF THE FRONT WHEELS. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE IN THE PAST 2-MONTHS WHEN I HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK ON THE HIGHWAY. THE TRUCK IS PRIMARILY DRIVEN IN TOWN, I AM NOW SCARED TO GO ON THE ROAD WITH THE TRUCK AS THE CONDITION SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE. I HAVE TO BRAKE QUICKLY AND STEER THE TRUCK TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD TO STOP THE OSCILLATION. THE SHAKING IS HAS ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BOTH TIMES WITH THE VEHICLE BEING VERY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. ONLY AFTER SLOWING TO APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH DOES THE OSCILLATION STOP. UPON RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I AM PERPLEXED WHY FORD OR THE NTHSA HAVE NOT STEPPED FORWARD TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, SOMEONE WILL BE HURT OR KILLED IF A SOLUTION IS NOT FOUND. WE HAVE TAKEN THE TRUCK NOW TO TWO DIFFERENT CERTIFIED FORD DEALERSHIPS AFTER EACH INCIDENT EACH TIME WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE AND THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS WITH THESE TRUCKS. THIS CAN'T SERIOUSLY BE TRUE? AFTER DOING RESEARCH I'VE FOUND THAT THE "DEATH WOBBLE" AS THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN TERMED BY THE MASSES IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AND HAS BEEN FOR MANY YEARS NOT FOR THE SELECT FEW CONSUMERS BUT FOR SO MANY.
TRAVELING, APPROX. 70 MPH ON I-20 JUST WEST OF CAMDEN S.C. FELT A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING OF THE TRUCK. HEARD A LOUD EXPLOSION FOLLOWED BY THE DRIVER REAR SUDDENLY DROP, LOOKING IN THE SIDE MIRROR, SAW THE TIRE COMING APART. PULLED TO THE CENTER MEDIAN, THE SIDE, AND BED HEAVILY DAMAGED. TIRE HAD COME APART LIKE A RETREAD, WHICH IT WASN'T. BFGOODRICH LT305/65/R17, DOT BE09 MANUFACTURE 1312

IN LESS THAN 6000 MILES 3 TIRES HAD BROKEN STEEL BELTS. 4800 MILE VACATION FIRST LEG 1300 MILES MOSTLY INTERSTATE PENSACOLA,FL TO NORWICH,CT DOING THE SPEED LIMIT, I HAVE A TRUCK CAMPER APPROX. 2000 LB SO I AM ABOUT A 1000 LBS UNDER MAX.WE LEFT NORWICH,CT WENT NORTH UP US 1 UP COAST OF MAINE TO FORT KENT THEN CAME BACK SOUTH DOWN THE MIDDLE OF MAINE ALL BACK ROADS WHICH WERE ROUGH ACROSS NEW HAMP. AND VERMONT TO NY . GOING SLOW [45/50] MOST OF THE TIME NEVER NOTICED TIRE VIBERATION UNTILL GOT ON I-84 IN NY TO ALBANY. THEN NOTICED VIBRATION.FROM ALBANY,NY TO SCRANTON ,PA . VIBRATION GOT WORSE WENT TO TIRE SHOP IN VA. HAD FRONT TIRES BALANCED ABOUT 50 MILES DOWN THE ROAD STILL VIBRATING FOUND ANOTHER TIRE SHOP THEY FOUND RIGHT REAR TIRE BELT BROKEN , GOT TO MACON GA. WENT TO SHOP LEFT REAR TIRE WITH BROKEN BELT CAME ON HOME APPROX 320MI AND HAD RIGHT FRONT TIRE WITH BROKEN BELT . SO 3 OUT OF4 TIRES ALL THE SAME MFG DATE WITH BELTS BREAKING . RAN AIR PRESSURE AS PER DOOR DECAL 75 FRONT 80 REAR. WHEN I WOULD GET THE VIBRATION I WOULD GET OFF THE INTERSTATE ONTO SECONDARY ROADS TO SLOW DOWN AND VIBERATION WOULD EASE UP.I ONLY HAVE ONE OF THE TIRES WITH A BAD BELT.
ENGINE FIRE - WHILE TRAVELING AT 55MPH AND TOWING A FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER ON THE INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE INDICATED "LOW FUEL PRESSURE" ON THE DASH PANEL. A FIRE ERUPTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT SENDING SMOKE INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. AFTER STOPPING, THE FIRE SPREAD TO THE REMAINDER OF THE TRUCK AND THEN CAUGHT THE FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER ON FIRE. BOTH THE TRUCK AND THE FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER WERE DESTROYED IN THE FIRE. I BELIEVE THAT A DIESEL FUEL LEAK CAUSED THE FIRE AND RESULTING DAMAGE. BECAUSE THIS FIRE OCCURRED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, IT LED TO A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED.
WHILE DRIVING AT 55MPH, RECEIVED A "LOW FUEL PRESSURE" WARNING. SECONDS LATER, A FIRE BROKE OUT IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WHICH COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED. RESULT WAS A TOTAL LOSS OF THE TRUCK AND THE FIFTH WHEEL TRAILER THAT WAS BEING TOWED. A FUEL FILTER HAD BEEN CHANGED TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THE FIRE AND SUSPICION IS THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS NOT PROPERLY REATTACHED. THE ORIGIN OF THE FIRE WAS IN THE AREA OF THE UPPER FUEL FILTER WHICH HELPS CONFIRM THIS SUSPICION. PROPER REMOVAL AND REINSTALLATION OF THE FUEL LINES IN THIS VEHICLE ARE KEY SAFETY ITEMS. FORD SHOULD RECONSIDER THE METHOD BY WHICH FUEL FILTERS ARE CHANGED IN ORDER TO ELIMINATE THE NEED TO REMOVE AND REINSTALL FUEL LINES.
TRUCK WAS IDLING THEN STOPPED AND ENGINE SHUT DOWN. TRUCK WAS TOWED TO DEALER. DIAGNOSIS WAS FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP DUE TO METAL SHAVINGS. NO KNOWN ISSUES WITH POOR FUEL. FUEL FILTERS CHANGED REGULARLY. NO "WATER IN FUEL" WARNING LIGHTS. NO ISSUES WITH VEHICLE HEALTH REPORT DONE 1 DAY EARLIER. 65,000 MILES. FORD COMPANY WILL NOT WARRANTY REPAIR DUE TO ALLEGED CLAIM OF CONTAMINATED FUEL. NO SIGNS OF RUST, OR ANY TYPE OF CONTAMINATE IN OR ON COMPONENTS.
I HAVE A 2013 6.7 DIESEL. IT GOES THROUGH THE EXHAUST FILTER CLEANING ABOUT EVERY 200 MILES. AFTER THIS PROCESS STARTS THE ENGINE RUNS EXTREMELY ROUGH, LIKE IT'S READY TO DROP OUT. THERE IS ALSO A VERY LOUD KNOCKING NOISE AND VIOLENT SHAKING WHILE I DRIVE. YES, IT'S MORE THAN JUST THE TYPICAL DIESEL CLATTER.
NOTICED ODD SMELL AT APPROX 50K MILES. THOUGHT IT WAS BURNED OIL. SERVICED AT FORD DEALER - BRAKE FLUID LEAKING FROM REAR BRAKE CALIPER FAILURE. DEALER REPLACED BRAKE CALIPER AND PADS. AFTER SERVICING, BRAKE FLUID SMELL CONTINUED. SERVICED AGAIN AT APPROX 56K MILES - BRAKE LINE LEAKING.
SUNROOF EXPLODED SITTING STILL SHOWERING EVERYONE WITH GLASS, SOME GLASS GOT IN OCCUPANT FACE AND EYES
THE EGT SENSOR FAILED, THEREFORE THE ENGINE'S COMPUTER SHUT DOWN THE MOTOR WHILE I WAS DRIVING 70 MPH ON THE INTERSTATE. THE SHUT DOWN STARTS BY NO LONGER ALLOWING ACCELERATION OR TO REMAIN AT A CONSTANT SPEED, BUT RATHER FORCING THE VEHICLE TO SLOW DOWN AND NOT ALLOWING THE DRIVER TO KEEP ENGINE CONTROL. I WAS IN A RURAL STRETCH OF HIGHWAY AND WAS ABLE TO GET TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD WITHOUT TOO MUCH TROUBLE, HOWEVER I WOULD BE VERY CONCERNED IF THIS ENGINE SHUT DOWN HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY WITH A LOT OF TRAFFIC. I SEE THAT AMBULANCE EQUIPPED FORD DIESEL VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED, BUT NOT OTHERS. IF THE MOTOR SHUTS ITSELF DOWN WHILE DRIVING ON A BUSY HIGHWAY, THIS IS A BIG SAFETY CONCERN FOR MYSELF AND OTHER EMPLOYEES.

THE BALL JOINTS, TRACKING BAR BUSHINGS, SPRING MOUTH, STEERING STABILIZER SHOCK, AND ALL FOUR TIRES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.

THIS VEHICLE SHUTTERS UPON TAKING OFF AND WILL FROM SPEEDS OF 20 TO 70 MPH BOUNCE OR HAVE "WHEEL HOP". THE FORD DEALERSHIP HAD DISCRIBED THIS TO BE A SIMULAR PROBLEM AS THE SHORT BED SUPER DUTY, HOWEVER MAINTAIN THIS WHEEL HOP IS NOT A SAFTY ISSUE. I WAS ALSO ADVISED AT THE DEALERSHIP THAT FORD IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDS NO FIX AND CALLS THIS THE CHARACTER OF THE TRUCK. AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE TRUCK WILL ACTUALLY BOUNCE THE REAR END TO WHERE THE FEELING IS LIKE THAT OF A BAD TIRE OR BUBBLED TIRE. THE WHEEL HOP WILL CONTINUE INTERMITTANTLY WHILE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. WHILE TOWING THIS ALSO INCREASES THE AMOUNT OF WHEEL HOP WITH WEIGHT IN THE BED OF THE TRUCK. *TT
1. SEVERE ENGINE RATTLE AND THEN SEVERE SHAKING OF ENTIRE TRUCK DUE TO EXHAUST REGENERATIVE SYSTEM. TRUCK BECOMES HARD TO CONTROL ON HIGHWAY AND PRESENTS DANGER IN HEAVY TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. FIRST INCIDENT WAS TAKEN IN FOR REPAIR; SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY SEVEN MONTHS LATER AND WAS TOLD BY DEALER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE THAT IN ORDER FOR THE EXHAUST REGENERATIVE SYSTEM TO WORK PROPERLY WE HAD TO WATCH FOR THE "CLEANING EXHAUST SYSTEM" MESSAGE TO APPEAR (WHICH ONLY FLASHES ON FOR APPROXIMATELY 5 SECONDS AND REQUIRES EYES OFF THE ROAD) AND THEN DRIVE AN ADDITIONAL 20 MILES AT SPEEDS ABOVE 50 MPH FOR THE REGENERATION SYSTEM TO COMPLETE. UNACCEPTABLE WHEN LIVING IN AN AREA WHERE SPEED LIMIT IS 45 MPH AND THERE IS ONLY A DISTANCE LESS THAN 10 MILES FROM ONE END OF OUR TOWN TO THE OTHER. IN OTHER WORDS, IF WE ARE PULLING INTO OUR DRIVEWAY AND THE MESSAGE COMES ON, WE ARE TO NOT STOP THE TRUCK AND DRIVE IT FOR AN ADDITIONAL 20 MILES AT 50 OR MORE MPH TO COMPLETE THE CYCLE. VIDEO OF ONE INCIDENT OF THE SEVERE SHAKING IS AVAILABLE IF NEEDED. 2. HARD WASHBOARD BOUNCING EFFECT WHEN OPERATING VEHICLE AT 45 MPH. WENT TO THE PERSONAL EXPENSE OF RULING OUT TIRE ISSUE.
