TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WAS OPENED. WHEN THE DOOR WAS CLOSED, IT WOULD NOT LATCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCH FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
DROPPED OFF PASSENGER IN HER DRIVEWAY FROM FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. WE BOTH GOT OUT OF CAR. WHEN I RETURNED TO CAR I FASTENED SEAT BELT. TURNED ON IGNITION SWITCH AND 'OPEN DOOR' SIGNAL CAME ON FOR PASSENGER DOOR. I GOT OUT OF CAR, SHUT PASSENGER FRONT DOOR AND IT DID LATCH PROPERLY, GOT BACK INTO DRIVERS SEAT AND DROVE DOWN HER STREET. STOPPED AT STOP SIGN AND SIGNALED TO MAKE LEFT HAND TURN INTO A FOUR LANE PARKWAY. PULLED OUT VEERING LEFT TO REACH PROPER LANE AS PASSENGER DOOR FLEW OPEN, WHICH TRIPPED RED OPEN DOOR WARNING LIGHT AND THE AUDIO WARNING. STARTLED THE BEJESUS OUT OF ME. I HAD TO CAREFULLY CROSS ALL LANES TO PULL OFF ROADWAY TO RIGHT SIDE SHOULDER TO KEEP THE OPENED RIGHT SIDE FRONT DOOR FROM BEING HIT BY OTHER CARS. PROBLEM WAS SUDDEN ONSET AND I HAD NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH WARNING LIGHTS OR LATCH BEFORE 10/30/15, AND I AM THE ONLY OWNER CAR HAS HAD. *TR
AS I WAS MAKING A LEFT U TURN AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR SWUNG OPEN AND WOULDN'T CLOSE. NOW IT SEEMS THE DOOR LATCH WON'T CATCH. NOTHING APPEARS TO BE BROKEN OR DAMAGED, THE DOOR JUST WONT CLOSE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LATCH FRACTURED WITHOUT WARNING AND WOULD NOT CLOSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE LATCH AND THE FAILURE RECURRED ON ANOTHER DOOR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT MONTHS LATER, UPON MOVEMENT NEAR THE DOOR, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LATCH FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER TO REPLACE A SECOND LATCH. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 15V246000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,000.
I WAS LEAVING WORK AND UNLOCKED MY CAR WITH MY REMOTE KEY IN ORDER TO GET IN. I HAD BEEN TO PANERA BREAD AROUND 3:00PM FOR LUNCH AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE SO I GOT IN THE DRIVERS SIDE AND STARTED TO LEAVE THE PARKING LOT. AS SOON AS I STARTED (TURNED RIGHT) ONTO THE HIGHWAY, I HEARD WIND FROM THE BACK (LOUDER THAN USUAL) AND MY DOOR WAS FLAPPING OPEN! I WAS GLAD A CAR DIDN'T DIVE BY AND RIP OFF MY DOOR! I PULLED OFF (WHILE HOLDING THE DOOR BACKWARDS AWKWARDLY AND UNSAFELY) INTO THE TARGET PARKING LOT. I TRIED TO SHUT THE DOOR BUT IT JUST BOUNCED BACK, I TIRED TO HOLD SHUT AND LOCK IT BUT IT WOULDN'T LOCK. THE LATCH WAS BROKEN OR NOT FUNCTIONING. I HAD TO BUY PAINTERS TAPE TO MAKE SURE MY DOOR DIDN'T FLY OPEN ON THE WAY HOME. I TOOK TO FORD AND THEY SAID IT WAS $400 TO FIX. I TOLD THEM THAT THIS WAS PROBABLY GOING TO BE LIKE THE TRANSMISSION, WHERE I COMPLAINED TWICE ABOUT IT, THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL, AND THEN THEY RECALLED IT 2 YEARS LATER, SO I JUST MADE SURE I HAD A RECEIPT OF MY VISIT. I HOPE THE REST OF MY DOORS DON'T FLY OPEN TOO. *TR
RIGHT REAR DOOR LATCH FAILED, UNABLE TO KEEP DOOR CLOSED, UNABLE TO RECLUSE OR LATCH DOOR. *TR
AS I WAS MERGING INTO TRAFFIC ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, AT AROUND 35 MPH MY CAR SUDDENLY BOGGED DOWN AND ALMOST STALLED BEFORE REGAINING POWER AND I BARELY AVOIDED GETTING RUN OVER BY OTHER VEHICLES. THIS TRANSMISSION IS VERY ERRATIC AND HAS SINCE STALLED AND SURGED FORWARD WITHOUT CAUSE. I AM PRETTY MUCH AFRAID TO DRIVE IT IN TRAFFIC. SOME DAYS, IT DOES PRETTY GOOD, BUT ON OTHERS, IT CAN BE VERY TRICKY AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I HAVE TO BACK OUT INTO THE HIGHWAY FROM MY DRIVEWAY AND IT HAS JUST STAYED IN A NEUTRAL GEAR WHEN I HAD IT IN DRIVE AT TIMES. THIS CAR IS VERY UNSAFE AND I DON'T SEE HOW FORD MOTOR COMPANY CAN GET AWAY WITH SUCH UNSAFE ISSUES.
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO CLOSE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR ON 2011 FORD FIESTA, THE DOOR FAILED TO LATCH AND WOULD NOT REMAIN CLOSED. UPON CLOSER INSPECTION, THE LATCHING MECHANISM IN THE DOOR WOULD NOT REMAIN IN THE LATCHED POSITION AND WOULD FALL OPEN UNDER ITS OWN WEIGHT. *TR
I BOUGHT THE 2011 FORD FIESTA SE USED IN APRIL 2013. IN MARCH 2015, THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED VIA THE FACTORY (NO AFTER-MARKET PARTS WERE AVAILABLE). THE VEHICLE IS 4 YEARS OLD AND REPLACING THIS PART WAS ALMOST $1,000.00. I SENT AN EMAIL TO FORD CORPORATE ASKING WHAT THE LIFE EXPECTANCY FOR THIS PART IS, AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ME WITH AN ANSWER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR SWUNG OPEN WHEN IT WAS LEANED ON BY THE PASSENGER. THE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DOOR CRASHED INTO AN ELECTRICAL POLE, A MAIL BOX, AND STORM DRAIN MARKER. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V246000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER PRIOR TO THE FAILURE AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT BE REPAIRED UNTIL THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND WANTED THE CONTACT TO SIGN AN AGREEMENT FORM THAT WOULD REQUIRE THE CONTACT TO RELEASE FORD FROM ANY CLAIMS AND ACTIONS, PRESENT OR IN THE FUTURE FROM ANY ISSUES, SUSPECTED OR UNSUSPECTED, BEFORE REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,721. *TR
I LIVE ON THE ISLAND OF ST, CROIX, US VIRGIN ISLANDS. ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 21, 2015 AFTER DRIVING THE CAR FOR SEVERAL ERRANDS, I RETURNED HOME AND OPENED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR TO TAKE OUT SOME ITEMS. WHEN I CLOSED THE DOOR IT WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. IT SEEMS AS IF THE LATCH WILL NOT STAY SHUT. I WILL CONTACT THE DEALER ON MONDAY. *TR

IN ADDITION, ALL FOUR DOORS FAILED TO LOCK AND THE TRUNK OPEN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
I PURCHASED MY 2011 FORD FIESTA IN AUGUST 2014 WITH 45,000 MILES ON IT. CAR RAN FINE FOR A WEEK THEN I NOTICED WHEN THE AC IS ON THE CAR JERKS WHEN I ACCELERATE. IT ALSO DOES IT DAILY WHEN I DRIVE SPEEDS UNDER 30 MPH. THE CAR STALLED OUT AS I PULLED OUT LEAVING WAL-MART AND THANK GOD IT WAS DURING THE DAY WHEN EVERYONE IS AT WORK AND THAT THERE WAS NOT A LOT OF TRAFFIC!! THIS CAR MAKES ME NERVOUS DRIVING IT A DISTANCE LONGER THAN 30 MINUTES AND NO CAR SHOULD FEEL THAT UNSAFE. I TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER THIS MORNING REPORTING OF CONSTANT JERKING AND HESITATION WHILE I AM DRIVING AND FEELING THE GEARS GRINDING WHEN I BRAKE. I WAS TOLD I NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH AND THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS AND THAT SINCE THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER IT WOULD TAKE MINIMUM 2 WEEKS TO GET IN!. HOW THERE IS NOT A RECALL ON THIS I DO NOT UNDERSTAND. I HAVE READ COMPLAINT AFTER COMPLAINT ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO STEER THE VEHICLE IN BOTH DIRECTIONS AND HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO INDEPENDENT MECHANICS WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE KNUCKLES IN THE STEERING WHEEL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I PUT MY BABY INTO HER CAR SEAT, CLOSED THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR, AND STARTED DRIVING WHEN THE "DOOR AJAR" WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASH APPEARED. I IMMEDIATELY STOPPED AND SAW THAT THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR WAS AJAR. HER DOOR WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. NOTHING I ATTEMPTED WOULD FIX IT. THE CAR WAS NEVER DAMAGED, AND THE BROKEN DOOR RECEIVED BARELY ANY USE, AS SHE IS UNDER SIX MONTHS OLD. I HAD TO TIE A SWADDLE BLANKET TO THE HANDLE AND HOLD ON WHILE DRIVING US HOME. I IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE HAD PURCHASED THE CAR (FORD AKINS) AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS, DESPITE THE FACT THAT THERE IS AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION, AND THAT WE WOULD BE CHARGED TO FIX A GLARING SAFETY ISSUE EVEN THOUGH WE HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND THE CAR WAS EXACTLY FOUR YEARS OLD. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE PART, AND AM NOW LEFT WAITING WITH MY BABY IN THE BACK OF A CAR WITH A DOOR THAT IS DUCT TAPED CLOSED. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE AN EXTREMELY SERIOUS SAFETY COMPLAINT, AND DON'T TRUST THAT ANOTHER DOOR WON'T FLY OPEN WHILE DRIVING. *TR
FRONT DOOR DOES NOT LOCK WHEN PUSHING BUTTON IN MIDDLE OF DASHBOARD. BACK PASSENGER SIDE DOOR DOES NOT LATCH TO STAY SHUT. DOOR IS HELD SHUT WITH BUNGIES STRUNG UP UNDER FRONT SEAT, VERY GHETTO. PART (LATCH) COST OVER $200.00 TO FIX. *TR
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS OVER THE LAST WINTER I TURNED LEFT FROM MY DRIVEWAY. AS I ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE THE VEHICLE BRIEFLY SLIPPED OUT OF GEAR. THE VEHICLE IS CONTROLLED BY AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, BUT SLIPPED FROM GEAR, LEAVING ME IN THE ROAD, UNABLE TO MOVE FORWARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. MY TRANSMISSION HAS ALSO FAILED SEVERAL TIMES AT RED LIGHTS. I WILL STEP ON THE GAS, AND THERE ARE SEVERAL SECONDS OF HESITATION, WHERE MY VEHICLE WILL NOT MOVE. THEN IT LURCHES FORWARD. FORD HAS SENT A LETTER EXPLAINING THERE HAVE BEEN DEFECTS WITH THE TRANSMISSION, BUT I HAVE CALLED 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, AND THEY REFUSE TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS IT OCCURS DURING A TEST DRIVE BY THEIR TECHNICIANS. IF THE PROBLEM DOES NOT OCCUR DURING THEIR TEST DRIVE THEY WILL CHARGE ME OVER $100 FOR THE DIAGNOSIS. THIS DEFECT IS KNOWN TO FORD, YET THEY REFUSE TO FIX IT UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS CONSISTENT ENOUGH THAT I CAN BRING IT IN, KNOWING THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR ON THAT PARTICULAR TEST DRIVE. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I WAS UNABLE TO GET MY VEHICLE OUT OF THE ROAD, DUE TO THE TRANSMISSION ISSUE. I BELIEVE THE PROBLEM HAS ALSO CAUSED OTHER ISSUES WITH MY VEHICLE. MY O2 SENSOR AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER WORE OUT PREMATURELY.
POP/CLUNK/KNOCK NOISE ON TURNS AND LOOSE STEERING INCIDENTAL TO EXTREME TIRE WEAR ON FRONT RIGHT TIRE. TSB REF # : 11-10-28 ISSUED OCT 31,2011 FORD:2011-2012 FIESTA
CAR CANNOT BE DRIVEN IN SNOW. IF TRYING TO START FROM A COMPLETE STOP IN 1" OF SNOW, THE TRACTION CONTROL WILL CUT POWER TO THE WHEELS, LEAVING YOU STUCK IN PLACE. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS IT CAN LEAVE THE DRIVER STUCK IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AS HAPPENED TO ME TODAY. FORD HAS SINCE ADDED A WAY TO DISABLE THE TRACTION CONTROL, BUT THIS MODEL YEAR IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN THE SNOW. *TR
THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR OPENED ON ITS OWN AND WILL NO LONGER LATCH, NOTHING APPEARS BROKEN WHEN LOOKING AT THE LATCH. I HAVE THE DOOR TIED SHUT WITH ROPE. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FIESTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT, THERE WAS A REFLECTION ON THE REAR VIEW MIRROR WHILE LOOKING THROUGH THE REAR WINDOW. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT NIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY APPLIED TINT TO THE REAR WINDOW HOWEVER, THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
DRIVER'S SIDE REAR DOOR SUDDENLY COULD NOT LATCH. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO CHARGED $500 TO FIX IT. CAR ONLY HAS 47000 MILES ON IT SO IT SHOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED. DID NOT HAVE ANY CHILDREN SO RARELY USED THE REAR DOORS. I DO NOT THINK I SHOULD HAVE BEEN CHARGED FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
MY WIFE DRIVES THIS CAR ALMOST EXCLUSIVELY TO WORK AND RARELY WITH A PASSENGER. THIS DAY, I WAS THE PASSENGER AND AS WE WERE LEAVING A FRIENDS HOUSE, I CARRIED OUT A BAG AND OPENED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR, PUT THE BAG ON THE SEAT, AND CLOSED THE DOOR IN A NORMAL FASHION. TO MY SURPRISE, THE DOOR BOUNCED BACK OPEN. I INSPECTED THE DOOR FRAME, EXPECTING TO FIND A SEATBELT OR SIMILAR PREVENTING CLOSURE BUT THERE WAS NOTHING. I JIGGLED THE HANDLE AND ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE DOOR AGAIN. IT BOUNCED. I THEN ACTUATED THE INSIDE DOOR HANDLE AND TRIED AGAIN. BOUNCED. I CYCLED THE CHILD LOCKS. BOUNCED. THEN I INSPECTED THE MECHANISM THAT IS DESIGNED TO CATCH THE DOOR CLOSED AND FOUND IT COULD BE MOVED FREELY WITH MY FINGER OR A DEVICE LIKE A KEY. THERE WAS NO MECHANICAL RESISTANCE OR "CLICK" OR ANY OTHER INDICATION THAT IT WOULD HOLD THE DOOR CLOSED. I WENT TO THE DRIVER SIDE REAR DOOR AND COMPARED ITS CLOSURE MECHANISM TO THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND FOUND THIS DEVICE COULD NOT BE EASILY MOVED. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH FOUND MANY SIMILAR PROBLEMS DOCUMENTED WITH THE ONLY RESOLUTION BEING REPAIR BY FORD. WE WERE FORCED TO DRIVE HOME WITH THE REAR DOORS TIED TOGETHER TO HOLD THE PASSENGER DOOR SHUT. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT WITH MULLINAX FORD WHO STATED IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY OR RECALL, EVEN THOUGH ONLINE DOCUMENTATION SUGGESTS THERE IS A FEDERAL INVESTIGATION ONGOING WITH THIS PROBLEM. THE REPAIR BILL WAS $400+ DOLLARS. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. I HAVE NO DOUBT IT COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, POTENTIALLY WITH BACK SEAT PASSENGERS. *TR
WHEN A PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO CLOSE THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR ON THIS VEHICLE, IT REFUSED TO LATCH. THIS IS THE THIRD DOOR LATCH ON THIS VEHICLE THAT HAS FAILED. TWO DOORS HAVE BEEN REPAIRED BUT ONE REMAINS BUNGEE CORDED CLOSED DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF THE REPAIR. *TR
THE AUTOMATIC FORD FIESTA EXPERIENCES A VERY LOUD GRINDING/SCRAPING NOISE AS SOON AS IT STARTS COASTING (AS SOON AS THE FOOT IS OFF THE ACCELERATOR), REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE BREAK PEDAL IS APPLIED OR NOT. THIS HAPPENS REGARDLESS OF THE SPEED AT WHICH IT IS TRAVELLING. INITIALLY TOOK THE CAR TO A REPUTABLE MECHANIC WHO INDICATED THE NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION AND RECOMMENDED I GO TO THE DEALER SINCE THE ISSUE MIGHT BE COVERED UNDER THE CAR'S WARRANTY. THE FIRST TRIP TO THE DEALER FOR THE NOISE RESULTED IN A REPLACEMENT OF THE DUAL CLUTCH. THE SECOND TRIP TO THE DEALER FOR THE NOISE RESULTED IN A REPROGRAMMING OF THE PCM/TCM MODULE. THE THIRD TRIP TO THE DEALER FOR THE NOISE RESULTED IN BEING TOLD THIS IS "NORMAL". THE NOISE ABATED AFTER THE DUAL CLUTCH REPLACEMENT AND REPROGRAMMING OF MODULES, BUT QUICKLY RETURNED (WITHIN DAYS) AND GREW LOUDER THAN BEFORE. THE NOISE IS SO LOUD THAT IT CAN WAKE UP NEIGHBORS WHEN DRIVEN THROUGH NEIGHBORHOODS AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO HAVE A CONVERSATION IN THE CAR.
CAR STARTED NORMALLY IN DRIVEWAY, BUT WHEN I PUT IT IN REVERSE TO START BACKING OUT, NOTICED THE VEHICLE DID NOT SHIFT AND WAS JUST SITTING IN NEUTRAL WHICH CAUSED MY CAR TO ROLL BACK, SO I PUT CAR IN DRIVE AND GAVE IT GAS TO MOVE BACK FORWARD, BUT INSTEAD KEPT ROLLING BACKWARDS OUT INTO THE ROAD (STILL IN NEUTRAL). THE CAR SLIPS GEARS WHICH MAKES IT DANGEROUS TO DRIVE UP ANY SORT OF HILL. MY CAR HAS STALLED OUT GOING UP HILLS AND MADE IT DANGEROUS NOT ONLY FOR ME, BUT THOSE AROUND ME. THE CAR ALSO HAS AN INCREDIBLE JERKY MOTION WHEN DRIVING THAT CAN CAUSE THE CAR TO SUDDENLY JERK FORWARD. SOMETIMES WHEN I PUT MY CAR INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE THE CAR WON'T EVEN MOVE. VERY VERY DANGEROUS CAR! FORD ISSUED A RECALL ON PARTS OF THE TRANSMISSION ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO, BUT THIS DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. FIRST INCIDENT, I WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, STARTING POPPING OUT OF FIFTH GEAR. EVENTUALLY HAD TO SHIFT INTO FOURTH GEAR TO FINISH THE DRIVE HOME. TOOK IT TO MECHANIC TO LOOK AT, COULD NOT FIND ANY EXTERNAL CAUSE (I.E. LINKAGE), AND THE CAR FELT FINE DURING TEST DRIVE. A FEW DAYS LATER, HAD TROUBLE ENGAGING INTO FIFTH GEAR. FIGURED OUT HOW TO KEEP ENGAGED WITHOUT IT POPPING OUT OF GEAR, WHICH LASTED FOR A COUPLE DAY. YESTERDAY (EIGHT DAYS AFTER THE FIRST INCIDENT), WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY (APPROX. 70 MPH), HEARD LOUD CRUNCHING NOISES, THEN LOST SPEED. DOWNSHIFTED TO FOURTH GEAR, AND WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE HIGHWAY. I LET THE CAR SIT FOR A WHILE, THEN TRIED TO CONTINUE DRIVING. COMPLETELY LOST FIFTH GEAR. CAR CAN BE DRIVEN IN FIRST THROUGH FOURTH GEAR, BUT JUST REVS IN FIFTH. VEHICLE SUDDENLY BEGAN TO ALTERNATELY SURGE AND EXPERIENCE LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING, SLIPPING BADLY BETWEEN GEARS. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE NEARLY STALLED WHEN ACCELERATOR WAS DEPRESSED. FORD DEALERSHIP STATED ENGINE CODE INDICATED A BAD CLUTCH ACTUATOR. THIS IS A CVT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION AND THERE ARE SEVERAL TSBS ON THIS TRANSMISSION FOR A VARIETY OF PROBLEMS WITH THE TCM/PCM, CLUTCH PLATES, CLUTCH ACTUATORS, AND SEALS. FORD HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY FOR THESE TRANSMISSIONS BUT IS APPARENTLY ONLY FIXING THE OBVIOUS PROBLEM AT TIME OF BREAKDOWN INSTEAD OF REPLACING ALL KNOWN DEFECTIVE PARTS. THE DRIVING CHARACTERISTICS WHEN ONE OF THESE PARTS FAIL IS DANGEROUS, CAUSING THE CAR TO SHUDDER, JERK, EXPERIENCE LOSS OF POWER WHEN SHIFTING, OR EXPERIENCING SUDDEN THROTTLE SURGES. ALL KNOW PROBLEM PARTS SHOULD BE REPLACED. A RECALL IS IN ORDER. *TR

FORD MANUFACTURE SERVICE REQUEST BY MAIL SAID TO INSPECT AND REPLACE IF NEEDED CLUTCH FOR TRANSMISSION. FORD DEALER REPLACED THE CLUTCH AND 2 DAYS LATER THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T SHIFT SMOOTH. AS THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED THE ENGINE REVVED UP ANOTHER 1,000 RPMS BEFORE SHIFTING WITH SHUTTERING NOTICED. FORD TECHNICIANS SAID IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL THEY COULD SEE IT AT THE SHOP. 2 DAYS LATER WHEN THE DEALER REOPENED THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY FAILED AND WOULD ONLY SHIFT BADLY FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE SHUDDERS AND HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING. LURCHES FORWARD AT TIMES WHEN STOPPED. BUCKS WHILE SHIFTING (TRANSMISSION IS THEIR POWERSHIFT AUTOMATIC). ONE TIME THE TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY DISENGAGED WHILE DRIVING ON THE PARKWAY DURING A SNOWSTORM, LEAVING IN A VERY DANGEROUS POSITION. HAD TO TURN THE CAR OFF AND ON SEVERAL TIMES TO GET TRANSMISSION TO "RESET". AT TIMES, WHEN RELEASING BRAKE FROM STATIONARY POSITION, CAR WOULD SHUDDER EVEN BEFORE APPLYING THE THROTTLE. TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE HAS BEEN CHANGED OUT TWICE IN THE LAST 15 MONTHS OF PURCHASING THE CAR FROM THE DEALER AS "CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED". LAST TCM CHANGE, THE CAR HAD SAME ISSUES AS SOON AS I LEFT SERVICE DEPARTMENT. CALLED SERVICE ADVISER AS SOON AS I GOT HOME AND HE SAID I HAD TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE 1000-12000 MILES FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO "GET USED TO THE WAY I DRIVE". NEEDLESS TO SAY, AFTER 2000 MILES, THERE HAS BEEN NO CHANGE IN CONDITION. TAKING VEHICLE BACK FOR THE 5TH TIME FOR CONTINUED PROBLEMS. I HAVE RECENTLY INQUIRED ABOUT A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT AGAINST FORD MOTOR COMPANY BEING FILED IN CA REGARDING THESE SAME ISSUES FROM OTHER FORD FIESTA OWNERS.

THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. 650 TO REPLACE, AND YESTERDAY MY CAR REFUSED TO START...THE SAFETY WON'T UNLOCK AND MY CAR CAN'T GO INTO ANY GEAR BUT PARK.
