CONSUMER EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHO FOUND THE LOCTITE WHEEL NUT LOOSE. *YH
HAD ACTIVATED CHILD SAFETY LOCK FROM INSIDE. UNABLE TO OPEN DOOR FROM OUTSIDE. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE SYSTEM ACTIVATES INSIDE, DOOR MUST BE OPENED AND HAVE CAR KEY AVAILABLE TO ENGAGE LOCK. *SLC
1ST LUG BOLT FAILURE OCCURED FOLLOWING A FLAT TIRE ON RIGHT REAR. CHANGED TIRE FOLLOWING OWNER'S MANUAL AND THE LUG BOLT SHEARED OFF IN THE WHEEL. DEALER REPLACED PART & LABOR AT NO CHARGE TO ME. 2ND FAILURE TO LUG BOLT OCCURRED TO LEFT REAR WHILE DRIVING. DEALER REFUSED TO REPLACE SHEARED OFF BOLT AT NO CHARGE TO ME. DEALER STATED THAT WHEN THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AT 12,000 MILES, THAT THE NON-FORD TIRE SERVICER MUST HAVE USED AN INCORRECT TORQUE SPECIFICATION TO REMOVE/REPLACE TIRES. DEALER COULD NOT PROVIDE ME WITH THE TORQUE SPECIFICATION. DEALER DID NOT FIX THIS DEFECT & LET US LEAVE THE DEALERSHIP WITH ONLY 3 LUG BOLTS ON THE LEFT REAR WHEER. THE LUG BOLT ON THE FORD FOCUS ARE DEFECT AND BASED ON THE NUMBER OF OTHER CONSUMERS ON YOUR WEB-SITE EXPERIENCING LUG BOLT FAILURE, THE VEHICLES SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE WHEEL LUG BOLTS.*AK
THE VEHICLES TIRES NEEDED TO BE CONTINUOUSLY ALIGNED AND REPLACED. THIS WAS NOT FROM WEAR. CAUSE UNKNOWN. *NLM
BOLTS POPPED ON EACH SIDE OF WHEEL. ONE OF THE BOLTS GOT STUCK IN WHEEL. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
PLEASE CHECK UNDER THE HOOD AT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE AND THE WAY IT FASTENS TO THE CARBURATOR. WHILE REOVING YOUR FOOT OFF PEDAL TOO FAST, IT WILL CAUSE ACCELERATOR CABLE TO COME OFF, ACCELERATING YOUR CAR AT HIGH SPEED AND MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR YOU TO STOP. THIS HAPPENED TO US YESTERDAY AND MANY PEOPLE COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. AFTER INSPECTING THE PART MYSELF, I WAS SHOCKED TO SEE THAT (A) IT WAS PLASTIC AND (B) THERE IS NOTHING HOLDING THAT CABLE DOEN OTHER THAN A C-HOOK. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS!!!!!!!!! PLEASE HAVE THIS PART INSPECTED IMMEDIATELY, HAVE IT RECALLED AND GET THIS CAR SAFE. I WILL NO LONGER PUT ME OR MY FAMILY IN THAT CAR UNTIL THE ACCELERATOR CABLE "DEATH TRAP" IS FIXED. WHILE DRIVING ON I275 NTH I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE THE NOISE A FLAT TIRE WOULD MAKE.GOT OFF MOTORWAY TO INVESTIGATE, COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. GOT BACK ON ONLY TO FIND THE CAR STARTING TO PULL TOWARD THE PASSENGER SIDE. LUCKILY I WAS NEAR A REST AREA, PULLED OFF. ONLY TO FIND SMOKE POURING FROM THE REAR WHEEL. IT HAD SIEZED SOLID. IT WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO FIXED THE FOLLOWING, DRUM&BEARING CUP, SPINDLE, RETAINER ASY WHEEL, ROTOR BRAKE SK, CAP REAR WHEEL AND THE ABS SENSOR. REFUSED TO CHECK OTHER SIDE AS THAT HAD ALREADY(MUCH EARLY BEEN FIXED UNDER A RECALL) WHILE THEIR THEY DID FIND THE CAUSE FOR THE FUEL SMELL INSIDE THE VEHICLE, IN CIRCUIT 15RL3(GN.RD) @ C-87 TERMINAL WAS NOT SEATED IN CONNECTOR, FUEL CONSUMPTION HAS IMPROVED FROM 28MPG TO 31MPG. LOCAL DEALER AND FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE BOTH TOLD ME MY CONCERNS WITH THE OTHER REAR WHEEL AND THE ENGINE DUE TO IT'S CONSUMPTION OF UNBURNED FUEL(NOT TO MENTION MINE)WERE AREA'S THEY WILL NOT CHECK, EVEN IF I FEEL THEY ARE POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS TO MYSELF AND ANY PASSENGERS I MAY HAVE.*AK
ON 03/08/01, WHILE DRIVING 65MPH ON FREEWAY, ENGINE STALLED. VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER AND FUEL PUMP REPLACED ON 03/09/01. PROBLEM BEGAN REOCURRING ON 03/13/01. PROBLEM SEEMS TO START AFTER VEHICLE IS WARM AND HAS BEEN DRIVEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS FOR 10-15MINS. ONCE PROBLEM STARTS, IT WILL REOCCUR SEVERAL TIMES WITHIN SHORT DISTANCES (1/4 TO 1/2 MILES), NECESSITATING PULLING TO SIDE OF ROADWAY AND RESTARTING VEHICLE. ONCE PROBLEM STARTS, IT WILL REOCCUR AT BOTH SURFACE STREET AND HIGHWAY SPEEDS.*AK
THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE COMING FROM BRAKES. DEALER REPLACED FRONT BRAKE PADS. ALSO HAD INCREASED BRAKING DISTANCE. WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 10 MPH, DRIVER'S REAR WHEEL CAME OFF WITH DRUM STILL IN IT.*AK
7/00- TAPE WAS STUCK IN STEREO, HAD TO REPLACE STEREO. 3/01- HAD TO REPLACE FRONT BRACK PADS AT 11000 MILES. 11/01- IGNITION LOCKED ON VEHICLE. HAD TO REPLACE IGNITION. 3/02- TRANSMISSION WAS NEUTRALIZING WHEN DRIVING. HAD TO REPLACE TRANSMISSION. 5/02- CAR WAS STALLING. FORD UNABLE TO DETECT PROBLEM. 9/02- CAR WAS NOT ACCELERATING AND STALLING SUDDENLY- HAD TO REPLACE FUEL PUMP. 9/02- HAD TO REPLACE FRONT BRAKE PADS AND BACK BRAKE SHOES AT 34000 MILES.

AREA IS VISIBLE WITH NO APPARENT DAMAGE TO RIM NOR TIRE. DEFINITE DEFECT IN THIS TIRE! DRIVER'S SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS WENT OUT WHILE DIVING 60 MPH. CONSUMER HEARD A NOISE FROM WHEEL, AND VEHICLE WAS HARD TO CONTROL. ON 6 MAY 2001, THIS HAPPENED AGAIN WITH PASSENGER SIDE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS. THERE WAS A RECALL ON WHEEL BEARINGS, BUT THIS VEHICLE WAS NOT AFFECTED DUE TO VIN. *AK *JB

HOOD FLEW OFF WHILE TRAVELING 45MPH AND IT CRACKED WINDSHIELD. CONSUMER DIDN'T SEE, AND RAN INTO A LAMP POST. AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY IN FRONT. DAMAGES WERE TO PASSENGERS SIDE DOOR, IT WOULD PARTIALLY OPEN. ALTERNATOR/ ENGINE BLOCK, AND RADIATOR WERE ALL DAMAGED. CONSUEMR WILL CONTACT DEALER BEFORE INSURANCE COMPANY REPAIRED IT. *AK
MY DAUGHTER WAS SO EXCITED TO BUY HER FIRST CAR. I'M NOT SURE WHY BUT SHE CHOSE A FORD FOCUS AND QUALIFIED FOR A FIRST TIME BUYER PROGRAM. AFTER A FEW MONTHS SHE STARTED HAVING BRAKE PROBLEMS. IT GOT SO BAD SHE THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THEY SAID THE NOISE WAS NORMAL. LATER SHE TOOK IT IN AND THEY TOLD HER THE BRAKE PADS WERE WARPED BECAUSE SHE DROVE THROUGH WATER AND THAT THE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER IT. NEXT TIME SHE WENT IN FOR WARRANTY SERVICE SHE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE BRAKES AND THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO ABOUT IT. SHORTLY THEREAFTER SHE HAD A ONE-VEHICLE WRECK. SHE WAS NOT HURT BUT THE CAR WAS BADLY DAMAGED. AFTER THREE ESTIMATES WE TOOK IT TO A LOCAL BODY SHOP WITH A GOOD REPUTATION FOR QUALITY WORK. THE ACCIDENT WAS DUE TO THE LACK OF ADAQUATE BRAKES AT A STOP SIGN. AT A LITTLE OVER 20,000 MILES SHE BEGAN HAVING MORE SERIOUS BRAKE PROBLEMS. AGAIN SHE TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO TOLD HER THE BRAKE PADS WERE BAD AND THE ROTORS NEEDED REPLACING. (AT 20,000 MILES) THEY OFFERED TO DO THE $400+ JOB FOR A 12% DISCOUNT SINCE THE JOB WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. SHE TOOK IT TO A BRAKE SPECIALIST WHO DID THE JOB FOR ABOUT $200. ADD ALL THE BRAKE PROBLEMS AND THE PROBLEMS WITH THE PASSENGER DOOR THAT LEAKED (THEY "FIXED IT" SEVERAL TIMES. IT STILL LEAKS. ACTUALLY, THIS CUTE LITTLE BLUE FORD FOCUS SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAINTED "LEMON YELLOW". ANOTHER THING - WHEN SHE TOOK THE CAR IN SHE TOOK A FRIEND WITH HER TO DRIVE HER TO WORK. DURING THE CONVERSATION WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER ABOUT THE PROBLEMS HE, AND I QUOTE, "TOLD THEM TO SHUT UP - HE WOULD NOT BE DOUBLE TEAMED. THEY DO NOT TEACH THAT IN CUSTOMER RELATION SCHOOL, DO THEY? DO YOU THINK THIS SAME DEALER WOULD TAKE IT IN FOR A TRADE IN?*AK
BRAKE SYSTEM HAS HAD SHOES/BEARINGS/ DRUMS REPLACED DUE TO OVERHEATING OF WHEEL. REAR DRIVE'S SIDE TIRE IS BECOMING TOO HOT TO TOUCH AFTER NORMAL OPERATION OF VEHICLE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION/ATTACHMENTS.*AK

VEHICLE STALLED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK, IT WOULD NOT RESTART FOR 12-14 HOURS, THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE HAS STALLED A TOTAL OF FOUR TIMES THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP, SENSOR ASSEMBLY AND FUSE ASSEMBLY. *NLM

FRONT BRAKES ARE MAKING A SQUEAKING NOISE WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. DEALERSHIP STATED THAT BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS WERE WORE OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DEALERSHIP INFORMED CONUSMER THAT ROTORS WERE NOT A COVERED PART, AND THEY WOULD HAVE TO HAVE THIS REPAIRED. *AK *SLC
VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR ROUTINE CHECK UP, AND MECHANIC TOLD CONSUMER THAT SHE NEEDED BRAKES IN FRONT AND BACK. AT 15000 MILES SHE NEEDED ALL NEW BRAKES FRONT AND REAR. AT 18000 SHE NEEDED REAR BRAKES, BUT FRONT BRAKES WERE FINE.*AK

VEHICLE RECALLED IN FEBRUARY 2001 TO REPAIR PROBLEM:"SOME OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES HAVE A RIGID VINYL SLEEVE AROUND THE WIRING AT THE HINGE POINT OF THE REAR DECKLID. DURING DECKLID OPENING AND CLOSING, MOVEMENT IS CONCENTRATED AT THIS POINT AND MAY CAUSE ONE OR MORE WIRES WITHIN THE HARNESS TO FATIGUE AND BREAK. DEPENDING ON WHICH WIRES BREAK, IT MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF LICENSE PLATE LAMPS, CENTER HIGH-MOUNT STOP LAMPS, STOP LAMPS OR TAIL LAMPS. LOSS OF THIS REAR LIGHTING COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF AN ACCIDENT." TOOK VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR BUT THE FOLLOWING HAVE FAILED SINCE: RIGHT TAIL LAMP, REVERSE LIGHTS. ON 09/12/2007 A FORD CUSTOMER RELATIONS REP STATED THAT MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER HAD ANY RECALLS. I HAVE FOUR OF FIVE OF THE NOTICES THEY SENT ME.
WHILE DRIVING FUEL TANK WILL SHOW THAT IT IS EMPTY WHEN, IN REALITY, TANK IS FULL. ALSO, A PROBLEM WITH BRAKE SYSTEM. BRAKES WILL NOT ACTIVATE ON TIME TO STOP VEHICLE.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 45 A TRUCK PULLED IN FRONT OF CONSUMER'S VEHICLE, AND CONSUMER HIT THE TRUCK. UPON IMPACT, NONE OF AIRBAGS DEPLOYED.*AK THE WIRE HARNESS, MOTOR MOUNT, FRONT AND REAR WHEEL BEARINGS HAD FAILED AND WERE REPLACED. *YH

TOTALLY FRUSTRATED BY LACK OF COMMUNICATION WITH DEALER AND FORD AM CONSIDERING LAW SUIT AGAINST BOTH (TIRESIZE: 195R7015)
FIRST FAILURE(18,925 MILES)- LOUD MOAN COMING FROM REAR OF VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER WHERE RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING WAS REPLACED. SECOND FAILURE(28,218MILES)- LOUD GRINDING AND CLUNKING SOUND FROM REAR OF VEHICLE. RIGHT REAR WHEEL LOCKED UP. DEALER REPLACED RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING AGAIN.*AK
RIGHT REAR WHEEL BEARING CAUSED CAR TO SWERVE VIOLENTLY AT 55MPH, DRIVER SLOWED TO 20MPH TO AVOID BEING PULLED OFF ROAD. DRIVER TRIED TO SLOWLY DRIVE TO REPAIR STATION BUT CAR KEPT WOBBLING ON ROAD SO STOPPED AND HAD CAR TOWED INTO GARAGE..IGNITION /LOCK SYSTEM FAILED IN JANUARY AND LEFT DRIVER STRANDED. CAR COULD NOT BE STARTED. IN ANOTHER PROBLEM THAT OCCURED IN OCTOBER 2000 THE FUEL ASSEMBLY RECALL WAS NOT PROPERLY REPAIRED AND CAUSED CAR ACCELERATOR TO NOT FUNCTION. THE CAR WOULD ONLY GO 1-3MPH AT FULL ACELLERATION. THIS WAS VERY DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. I DO NOT HAVE PAPERWORK ON THIS INCIDENT BUT PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED AT BERGSTROM FORD, NEENAH, WI 54956*AK
IN TO DEALER THREE TIMES, THEY SAY IT'S NORMAL YET FORD HAS 7 S/B'S OUT FOR THIS PROBLEM. NO SAFETY DEFECT. *AK
