CAR WAS TAKEN TO DELAERSHIP IN APRIL REGARDING NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE CAR. THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS. I CANNOT TELL IF THE NOISE IS COMING FROM ONE OF THE REAR WHEELS
LEAK AT FUEL TANK HOSE CAUSED CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. NLM
VEHICLE OVERHEATED, AND ENGINE COOLANT LIGHT CAME ON. THERE WAS NO COOLANT LEAK. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE VEHICLE'S PROBLEMS. *AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2000 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, THE PEDAL WOULD INTERMITTENTLY BECOME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. WHEN THE FAILURE OCCURRED, THE CONTACT WOULD SHIFT TO NEUTRAL IN ORDER TO RELEASE THE PEDAL YET THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO EXHIBIT AN UNUSUALLY HIGH INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS. THE CONTACTS MECHANIC INFORMED THAT THERE WAS WATER ENTERING THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL SENSOR AND CAUSING THE FAILURE. IN ADDITION, THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED HIM OF A POTENTIAL RECALL FOR THE VEHICLE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 99V346000-VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL) YET THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
CONSUMER HAD AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH THE VEHICLE STARTED TREMBLING THE CONSUMER LOST CONTROL AND TWO TIRES CAME OFF, AFTER THE ACCIDENT CONSUMER RECIEVED RECALL 00V-303 FOR LOOSE NUTS WHICH HE BELIEVES WAS THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT. NLM
CONSUMER RENTED A CAR FROM BUDGET RENTAL. VEHICLE LOCKED UP, AND DRIVER WAS NOT ABLE TO TURN OFF OR START VEHICLE. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, ELECTRICAL DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN. CONSUMER HAD TO CLIMB OUT OF WINDOW, AND CAR JUST DIED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON 4 DIFFERENT FORD, FOCUSES THAT CONSUMER HAD RENTED. CONSUMER FEELS THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT COULD LOCK UP ON THE HIGHWAY. *AK
I RECEIVED SEVERE 2ND DEGREE BURNS TO MY LEFT ARM AND HAND WHEN MY STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG DEPLOYED DURING A 35 MPH COLLISION IN WHICH MY FRONT RIGHT STRUCK ANOTHER VEHICLE TURNING IN FRONT OF ME IN HIS REAR RIGHT. *AK
VEHICLE ACCELERATES WHEN APPLYING SPEED PEDAL. IF HE DOESN'T APPLY BRAKES TO SLOW DOWN, VEHICLE WILL CONTINUOUSLY SPEED UP FASTER. HE HAS TO PUT VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, AND TURN THE VEHICLE OFF. SOMETIME IT WORKS AND SOMETIMES IT DOESN'T WORK. *AK
SUSPENSION IS HARD WHEN DRIVING , VEHICLE SWINGS FROM LEFT TO RIGHT, AND THERE IS A RATTLING NOISE. ALSO, SEATBELT ON PASSENGER'S SIDE BROKE, AND WHEN APPLYING BRAKES, VEHICLE WANDERS TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. *AK
IGINITION SWITCH KEEPS LOCKING UP INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER NOTIFIED, AND REPLACED TWO IGNITION SWITCHS ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER. *AK

WHILE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY THERE WAS A FIRE IN THE DOOR ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. OWNER WAS ABLE TO PUT OUT THE FIRE. THERE WAS A 95% CHANCE THAT VEHICLE WOULD BE TOTALLED. *AK

THE STEERING WHEEL AND IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED UP, ON ANOTHER OCCASION THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP IN THE RIGHT POSITION WHILE THE DRIVR WAS BACKING INTO A DRIVEWAY, THE REAR WHEEL BEARINGS HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO ROAD NOISE, THE IGNITION SWITCH CAME OUT OF THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN THE DRIVERS ATTEMPTED TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. VEHICLE IS IN THE SHOP AS OF 21 AUG 01 FOR WATER LEAK UNDER DASHBOARD? TRUNK WILL NOT LOCK, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DIFFICULT TO GET OUT OF PARK WORST CAR I HAVE EVER OWNED. FORD MOTOR COMPANY NOT HELPING AT ALL. MY WARRANTY WILL BE UP IN A FEW, THAT MEANS ALL DEFECTS WILL COME OUT OF POCKET FOR REPAIR.
POPPED OUT OF GEAR AT HIGH SPEED, HAD TO HOLD THE SHIFTER TO KEEP IT IN GEAR AND AVOID ACCIDENT. AFTERWARD, IT WAS DIFFICULT TO GET THE SHIFTER TO GO INTO ANY GEAR WITHOUT GRINDING NOISE, NO REVERSE AT ALL. HAD TO BE TOWED TO DEALER. DEALER SAID THEY WOULD REPLACE THE WHOLE TRANSMISSION, THEN LATER THEY SAID FORD KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMENDED AN ADJUSTMENT TO THE LINKAGE. *AK
BRAKES DO NOT WORK AND DRIVER USES HIS CLUTCH TO SLOWDOWN VEHICLE. ALSO, FRONT BRAKE DRUMS, AND FRONT SHOCKS BROKE/ VEHICLE STALLS UNEXPECTEDLY, AND THE CV AXLE BROKE. DEALER CANNOT DETERMINE CAUSE ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK

GAS MILEAGE IS POOR ON THIS SIZE VEH--MOTOR KICKS INTO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHER SPEEDS. DEALER KEEPS TELLING ME THERE IS NO PROBLEM/CANNOT DUPLICATE, 4 INCIDENTS, THIS IS VERY FREIGHTING. ESPECIALLY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC & CANNOT GET OFF THE ROAD FAST. BRAKES WEAR BETWEEN 16000 AND 18000 MILES WITH NORMAL DRIVING. THE MOTOR BELT HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 22000 MILES. THIS NEVER HAPPENED SO SOON WITH ANY VEHICLE I HAVE EVER OWNED. REPAIRS AND SERVICES ARE VERY EXPENSIVE, MANY SAFETY RECALLS AND PRODUCT WARNINGS THAT TAKE TIME TO REPAIR. THE DEALER HAS A PROBLEM MAKING SURE THE PARTS ARE AVAILABLE WHEN I MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. THE WHEEL BEARINGS HAVE BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES AND SOUND LIKE THEY MAY BE GOING BAD AGAIN! I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE. WHAT IF SOMETHING FAILS WHILE MYSELF OR MY FAMILY ARE IN THIS VEHICLE. HAVE HAD VERY DISCERNING TROUBLE WITH 2000 FORD FOCUS. THINGS PREVIOUSLY FIXED ARE STILL NOT WORKING PROPERLY. I HAVE HAD THE CAR SINCE LATE 2000, AND IT HAS BEEN IN THE SERVICE DEPT. MORE THAN I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO ENJOY IT.
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE SHAKES AND VIBRATES. ROTORS ARE WARPED. ALSO, THEY ARE UNDER SIZED. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM.*AK
VEHICLE HAS STALLED 9 TIMES AND HAS BEEN IN FOR REPAIR, BUT FORD IS UNABLE AND UNWILLING TO DETECT THE PROBLEM. THEY CANNOT "DUPLICATE" THE STALLING THEREFORE IT DOES NOT EXIST. ALTHOUGH I HAVE STALLED ON THE INTERSTATE, WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH AND ON CITY STREETS. I REFUSE TO TAKE MY CHILD IN THE CAR WITH ME BECAUSE I AM SCARED WE WILL BE REAR ENDED. I HAVE CONTACTED THE AZ ATTY GENERAL'S OFFICE AND WAS TOLD THAT FORD REFUSED TO MEDIATE THE SITUATION AND THE STALLING PROBLEM DOES NOT EXIST. THE ATTY GENERALS OFFICE STATED THEIR WORKLOAD IS TOO HEAVY TO ENFORCE THE AZ LEMON LAW AND I WOULD HAVE TO HIRE AN ATTY. AS A SINGLE PARENT I CANNOT AFFORD TO HIRE AN ATTY AND STILL PAY MY CAR PAYMENTS, WHICH FORD EXPECTS ME TO DO, YET THEY WILL NOT HONOR THEIR PRODUCT AND ADMIT THIS CAR HAS A PROBLEM. I BOUGHT A NEW CAR SO THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE THE REPAIR COST OF A USED VEHICLE AND I BOUGHT A FORD BECAUSE THEY HAD BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR A LONG TIME AND I THOUGHT THEY WERE SAFE AND REALIABLE. *AK
WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THEY MAKE A VERY LOUD CONTINUOUS SQUEALING NOISE UNTIL THE CAR COMES TO A COMPLETE STOP. EVERY SINGLE TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THEY MAKE THIS NOISE. AT FIRST IT STARTED OUT AS AN OCCASIONAL LOW SQUEAKING NOISE DURING AUGUST 2000. THEN IT CONTINUED TO GET WORSE. I TOOK THE CAR TO BOB DAVIDSON FORD IN BALTIMORE MARYLAND AND THEY TOLD ME THAT A LOT OF FORD FOCUS OWNERS WERE COMPLAINING ABOUT THE BRAKES. THEY SAID NOTHING COULD BE DONE AND THAT THE ENGINEERS AT FORD WERE LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM. THEN I TOOK THE CAR TO TYSONS FORD IN VIENNA VIRGINIA. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE BRAKE DUST CAUSING THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. THEY CHARGED ME $37.00 TO CLEAN THE BRAKES. AS I DROVE OUT OF THE PARKING LOT, I APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THEY STILL MADE THE NOISE. SO, I CALLED TYSONS FORD BACK AND THEY TOLD ME THAT NOTHING COULD BE DONE ABOUT THE BRAKES BUT IF I WANTED THEM TO TAKE ANOTHER LOOK AT THE CAR THEY WOULD HAVE TO CHARGE ME AGAIN. IN THE MEANTIME, THE BRAKES ARE GETTING WORSE. THEN I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR (STOKES-CRAVEN FORD/RACEWAY FORD IN DARLINGTON SOUTH CAROLINA). THEY CHECKED THE BRAKES AND TOLD ME THAT THEY TURNED THE ROTORS. SO I PICKED THE CAR UP. THE BRAKES STILL MADE THE NOISE. SO, I CALLED THIS DEALER BACK AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT BACK. SO, THE BRAKES ARE GETTING WORSE AND NO ONE CAN'T SEEM TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.
AFTER DRIVING FOR 20 MILES OR MORE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH BRAKE SQUEALING AND VIBRATION WHEN BRAKES WERE APPLIED DUE TO BRAKE PADS AND SHOES FAILURE. WHILE TURNING AT A CORNER ABOUT 15 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE CAME OUT OF A LOT, STRICKING CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ON THE RIGHT FRONT. UPON IMPACT, BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED VIOLENTLY AND BURNED CONSUMER HAND. CONSUMER WAS TAKING TO HOSPITAL. *AK
INSTALL AN AFTER-MARKET OIL RECHARGABLE AIR FILTER (IMPROVES AIR FILTRATION AND TRAPS MORE DIRT THAN OE FILTERS). TRIED TO START CAR THIS MORNING AND ENGINE WOULD NOT MAINTAIN REV'S... AND WOULD EVENTUALLY DIE. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER. THEY STATED THAT THE MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) SENSOR WAS NOT DEFECTIVE, BUT WAS MADE INOPERABLE BY OIL DEPOSITION RESULTING FROM THE OILED AIR FILTER THAT I HAD INSTALLED (AND THAT ALL SERVICE WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY). SERVICE REP ALSO SAID THAT THEY HAD A TECH SERVICE BULLETIN STATING THAT OIL RECHARGABLE FILTERS SHOULD NOT BE USED IN THE FOCUS (EVEN THOUGH AFTER MARKET PRODUCTS DESIGNED FOR THE FOCUS ARE AVAILABLE). EXCESS OIL IS USUALLY 'BURNED OFF' WHEN RUNNING THE CAR. IN THE FOCUS CASE, THE MAF IS IN SUCH A PLACE THAT IT COLLECTS THE OIL OR ANY OTHER PRODUCT COMING THROUGH THE INTAKE AND COULD BE RENDERED DEFECTIVE BY THE MERE FACT THAT THE ELECTRONICS ARE EXPOSED. OIL CHARGE FILTERS HAVE BEEN USED FOR MANY YEARS. OE MANUFACTURERS ARE AWARE OF THEM... AND IF THEY ARE A PROBLEM, THEY SHOULD BE WARNING CONSUMERS IN THE OWNERS MANUAL NOT TO USE THEM. RESULT OF THIS ATTEMPT TO IMPROVE ON AIR FILTRATION WILL BE OVER $300.00 SINCE THE ADDITION OF THIS COMPONENT 'RUINED' A FORD COMPONENT. SERVICE TECH SAID THAT IF THIS HAD BEEN A MAP SENSOR RATHER THAN A MAF SENSOR, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN NO PROBLEM. FORD NEEDS TO NOTIFY OWNERS OF THIS 'POTENTIAL PROBLEM' AS OIL CHARGE FILTERS ARE AVAILABLE IN ANY AFTER-MARKET STORE (AUTO ZONE, PEP BOYS. ETC)... AND ARE ACTIVELY BEING SOLD.*AK
KEY WAS USED FINE TO ENTER INTO THE VEHICLE. BUT, KEY WAS ENTERED INTO IGNITION TO START ENGINE, BUT IT WAS NOT ABLE TO GO ALL THE WAY THROUGH. SECURITY SYSTEM WORKED AGAINST ITS OWN ORIGINAL KEY,AND WILL NOT OPERATE ANYTHING IN VEHICLE. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND DEALER HAS NO REMEDY OF DEFECT. PER CONSUMER THERE ARE FEW OTHER VEHICLES AT DEALER AWAITING TO BE REPAIRED. VEHICLE IS INOPERATIVE WITHOUT REMEDY. I GOT AN AN ACCIDENT WITH MY 2000 FORD FOCUS, AND THE AIR BAG SEVERELY BURNED MY WRISTS.
ENGINE STALLED THREE TIMES SO FAR DURING DOWNSHIFT, THE FIRST TIME WAS TWO YEARS AGO AND LAST TIME WAS LAST WEEK. IT ALL HAPPENED WHEN I'M SLOWING DOWN AND APPROCHING EXIT ON THE HIGHWAY, I DISENGAGED CLUTCH TRY TO DOWNSHIFT AND THE ENGINE STALLED, HAD TO TURN THE KEY TO START AND ENGINE AGAIN.*AK
A MAJOR COMPLAINT ABOUT THE 2000 FORD FOCUS. THIS WAS MY FIRST REAL CAR AND I WAS EXCITED. I HAD THE CAR FOR A COUPLE MONTHS WHEN IT STATED WHINING NOISES. I TOOK IT IN THEY SAID IT WAS NOTHING. IT HAPPEN I TOOK IT BACK. THEY SAID IT WAS THE TRANSMISSION FIXED A WEEK LATER THE CAR STARTED SHUTTING OFF ON ITS OWN. IT WOULD STALL AND STOP AS I WAS DRIVING. I SAID THE CAR IS STILL GIVING ME PROBLEMS AND TOOK IT BACK THEY INSISTED THAT THE CAR WAS OK. I TALK TO A FORD DEALER SAID THE FUEL PUMP. IT HAPPEN AGAIN TOLD BRING THE CAR IN FRIDAY THEN I WAS RIDING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY IN BUFFALO NY WITH MY CHILDREN THE CAR JUST SHUT DOWN NO BRAKES NO EXCEL NOTHING WE WERE ALMOST KILLED IN THAT CAR I SCRAMBLED TO GET TO AN EXIT WHERE THE CAR STOPPED ON ITS OWN ON THE SHOULDER NEAR THE END OF THE EXIT. I CALLED THEM SCREAMING CRYING SCARED ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED DO YOU KNOW THEY SAID SORRY CAN YOU TOW IT IN. I HAVE NEVER IN MY LIFE BEEN SO UNHAPPY. I TOWED THE CAR IN AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD KEEP THE CAR. IT STARTED UP AND EVERYTHING AND THEY STILL WOULD NOT BELIEVE ME. UNTIL ONE OF THE MECHANIC SAID HE WOULD DRIVE THE CAR HOME. IT SHUT DOWN ON HIM AS HE DROVE HOME. THE MECHANIC BROUGHT IT BACK FIXED AND IT AND TOLD ME I HAD TO PAY FOR IT I COULD COME AND GET IT. I WAS SO SO SO ANGRY I TOLD THEM I WOULD NOT PAY ANOTHER DIME FOR THAT CAR BUT WHAT I OWED TO THE TIME THAT CAR ALMOST TOOK MY LIFE. THEY SAID FINE AND PUT A JUDGMENT ON ME FOR 4,000. I TOOK IT TO A ATTORNEY TO FIGHT IT I WAS SOLD A BAD CAR AND WAS VERY RUDE AND NOT CARE ABOUT MY LIFE OR MY CHILDREN'S. NOW, 7YRS LATER I LOOK AT MY TRW TO FIND NOT ONLY DID YOU GIVE ME A BAD CAR, TELL ME I HAVE TO KEEP IT BUT YOU PUT 2 JUDGMENTS ON ME AND IT IS STILL RUINING MY LIFE. DISCREPANCY IN DOCUMENTATION BY THOMASON DAMEROW FORD SERVICE DEPARTMENT IN WHAT I WAS TOLD WAS DONE TO THE CAR VERSUS WHAT WAS DOCUMENTED. I WAS TOLD VERBALLY THAT CERTAIN CORRECTIONS WERE MADE TO THE CAR BUT THESE WERE NOT DOCUMENTED. FOR EXAMPLE, I WAS TOLD BY CHAD THE EVENING SERVICE MANAGER THAT THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CRANK SHAFT DAMPENER YET THIS WAS NOT DOCUMENTED WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR AND INFORMED DEALER I WOULD PURSUE LEMON LAW. DEALER HAD CAR FOR 30 DAYS IN APRIL AND I WAS TOLD PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. REGIONAL MANAGER WAS TO HAVE CALLED ME BACK BUT DID NOT. SERVICE MANAGER CONTACTED ON 08/22/2000 AND 08/23/2000 REGARDING REPEATED PROBLEMS BUT HE ONLY SEEMED TO BE CONCERNED WITH DOCUMENTATING OUR TELEPHONE CONVERSATION. DEALER PROVIDED WITH NEW PHONE AND ADDRESS ALTHOUGH THEY WERE TO HAVE CONTACTED ME A FEW MONTHS AGO BEFORE I MOVED YET FAILED TO DO SO SINCE APRIL 30,2000. CAR HAS SINCE STALLED, I AM VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY AS THE CAR WILL NOT EVEN REACH ACCEPTABLE AND A SAFE SPEED TO MERGE WITH HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. I WILL NOT USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AS IT SEEMS TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN EVEN AFTER THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT IN USE AND IT IS TURNED OFF.
