FORD FOCUS STOPPED RUNNING WHILE ON BUSY HIGHWAY, COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING WITH SPEED CONTROL ON. WHEN SHE TRIED TO DISENGAGE THE SPEED CONTROL IT FAILED TO DO SO, CAUSING THE AUTOMOBILE TO ACCELERATE AND SPIN AROUND, HITTING A POLE, AND DESTROYING THE FRONT END AND THE HOOD. DRIVER WAS SHOOK UP, AND SUFFERED SOME FACIAL BRUISES.*AK
FORD FOCUS CAR PURCHASED IN 2000. APRIL 28, 2000 CAR NEEDED REPAIR FOR THE FUEL INJECTION. THE CAR APPEARS TO JERK AND NOT ACCELERATE, PRECULDING THE CAR COMPLETELY STALLS WHICH MY CAUSE A CAR CRASH. AUGUST 2003 FUEL INJECTION PROBLEM REOCCURRING ,AND THE CAR STALLS.*AK
AXLE WHEEL BEARING WILL DISINTEGRATE ON HIGHWAY, IT WENT INTO A REAREND CURVE. REPLACED AT NO CHARGE. *AK SECOND WHEEL BEARING WAS DISCOVERED DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE. *YH
BATTERY / ALTERNATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ON WHILE DRIVING. THIS OCCURRED THREE TIMES : FIRST ON 4/26/00 AT 4332 MILES, SECOND ON 4/24/01 AT 16674 MILES AND LAST ON 7/5/01 AT 20427 MILES. EACH TIME THE CAR WAS REPAIRED BY A FORD DEALER AT NO COST UNDER WARRANTY.**** DIMS 11 IVOQ ENTRY POSTED AFTER 12/12/01 CUT-OVER TO ARTEMIS****748178. *AK
CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 5 MPH INSIDE OF A PARKING LOT AND HIT A BUMP, AIRBAGS WENT OFF AND BUSTED THE WINDSHIELD. CONSUMER SUSTAINED FACIAL BURNS. *AK
ENGINE MAKING TICKING SOUND, DEALER DID NOT LOOK INTO IT, JUST REPLACED ENGINE, THE DAY I GOT THE CAR BACK, IT WAS MAKING A SQUEALING NOISE, TAKE CAR BACK NEXT DAY, AFTER REMOVING TRANSMISSION, AND LEAVING ME WITHOUT A CAR FOR ANOTHER DAY, THEY REALIZED THEY FORGOT TO HOOK UP A HOSE, NOW CAR IS MAKING A GRINDING NOISE ONLY WHEN CLUTCH IS NOT PUSHED IN, NOISE STOPS WHEN YOU PUSH THE CLUTCH IN, CAR GOING BACK IN A FEW DAYS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ON A LOCAL ROAD ANOTHER VEHICLE PULLED OUT FROM A SHOPPING CENTER TO MAKE AN ILLEGAL LEFT TURN AND HIT CONSUMER ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE. UPON IMPACT, AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, BUT SEAT BELT DIDN'T LOCK OR HOLD THE DRIVER IN PLACE. DRIVER HIT HIS HEAD ON WINDSHIELD. *AK
WHILE DRIVING ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK. VEHICLE WAS PICKING UP SPEED. SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL TO SLOW VEHICLE DOWN. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP & MECHANIC INDICATED THE PROBLEM WAS THE CRUISE CONTROL. ORDERING PARTS TO REPLACE THE CRUISE CONTROL. *AK
WHEN GAS PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE ENGINE REVVED UP, BUT THE SPEED WAS NOT INCREASED, THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *JB

VECHICLE WILL BEGIN STALLING AT ANY GIVEN TIME WITH NO PRIOR WARNING. VEHICLE WILL SHUTDOWN WITH ALL DASHBOARD LIGHTS COMING ON. VEHICLE HAS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. IT HAS BEEN TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP ON SIX DIFFERENT OCCASIONS FOR SAME PROBLEM. *AK
DT: TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT KICK INTO GEAR. THE KEY IGNITION IS ALWAYS GETTING STUCK. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES AND WAS TOLD IT WAS ONLY HER IMAGINATION. FINALLY, THE TRANSMISSION DIED AND THE WARRANTY HAD RAN OUT. THE DOORS BOTH FRONT AND BACK COME OPEN WHILE DRIVING. THERE IS A RECALL ON THE REAR DOORS BUT IS ALSO HAVING PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT DOORS AS WELL. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER 3 TIMES FOR THE IGNITION KEY ALONE. CAR IS CURRENTLY IN SHOP. *TT
DT: THE TURN SIGNAL DO NOT CANCEL AFTER A TURN. THE SPRING BROKE THREE TIMES. THE TRUNK DOES NOT LATCH PROPERLY. DEALERSHIP HAS TAKEN CARE OF BOTH ISSUES, BUT THE PROBLEM RECURRED. IN COLD WEATHER THE IDLE SPEED WAS TOO HIGH. WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE IT BACKED OUT LIKE A ROCKET. THIS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT ON APRIL 9, 2000. THE CONSUMER WAS BACKING OUT WITH THE BACK DOOR OPEN. IT HAPPENED SO FAST HE DID NOT HAVE A CHANCE TO PUT ON THE BRAKES. THE CAR DOOR HIT THE GARAGE POST. THERE WAS NO POLICE REPORT. CONSUMER STATED HE HAD MENTAL INJURIES AND LOST HIS JOB. VEHICLE WAS STILL IDLING HIGH IN COLD WEATHER.*AK
BRAKES TO THIS DATE CONTINUE TO BE A PROBLEM; GRINDING, SQUEELING, ETC; CRUISE CONTROL STICKS, AIRCONDITIONER LEAKS, SOMETIMES IGNITION SWITCH TURNS SOMETIMES NOT, CAR VIBRATES EXCESSIVELY, CAR SPEEDS UP AND SLOWS DOWN ON ITS OWN, AND STALLS OCCASSIONALLY...RECEIVED RECALL ON REAR DRUM AXLE BUT NOTHING FROM FORD ON ANYTHING ELSE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH CONSUMER APPLIED CLUTCH PEDAL, IT WENT TO THE FLOOR. DEALER REPLACED A BROKEN SPRING ON CLUTCH ASSEMBLY. *AK

AIRBAG LIGHT STAYED ON. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND THEY SAID MODULE HAD NOT COME IN, AND THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT CONSUMER. WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH, CONSUMER HIT A TREE HEAD-ON, AND AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. CONSUMER'S MODULE STILL HAS NOT COME IN. *AK
REAR DRUM BRAKE SQUEAL, DEALER REPLACED SHOES WITHIN TWO DAYS SQUEAL WORSE THAN ORIGINAL. DEALER CALLED FORD TECH HOTLINE WAS ADVISED "CONCERN IS UNDER INVESTIGATION BY ENGINEERING" DEALER THEN SANDED DRUMS AND SHOES, PROBLEM RETURNED AGAIN WITHIN TWO DAYS. *AK
THIS CAR IS THE WORST INVESTMENT I HAVE EVER MADE AND A FRIEND OF MINE BOUGHT THE SAME CAR A FEW MONTHS AFTER ME AND HERS FELL APART AS WELL.THE DEALER HAS DONE NOTHING BUT GIVE BOTH OF US A HARD TIME ABOUT THESE TWO HORROR CARS AND THEY DONT HONOR THE WARRANTIES WE PURCHASED WITH THESE CRAPPY CARS .I CANT WAIT TO GET RID OF THE FORD FOCUS OUT OF MY DRIVE WAY AND NEITHER CAN MY FRIEND .I HOPE YOU WILL INVESTIGATE THESE CARS VERY CLOSELY THEY ARE TERRIBLE. STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED AND KEY WILL NOT TURN SO CAR WILL NOT START. AFTER DOING RESEARCH I HAVE FOUND THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON AND MAY EVEN HAPPEN AGAIN AFTER BEING REPAIRED - TYPICAL COST IS $250 - 300. *AK.

FAULTY AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT
BRAKES STARTED SQUEAKING LOUDLY AND CONSTANTLY EVERY TIME YOU COME TO A STOP. HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR INTO THE ELMWOOD PARK, NJ DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE CHECKED IT TWICE AND SAID THIS IS TO BE EXPECTED. HAVE READ FORD'S DISCLAIMER ABOUT BRAKE NOISE GIVEN TO ME AFTER I PURCHASED THE CAR (AND AFTER I COMPLAINED OF THE PROBLEM ONCE IT STARTED AFTER THE CAR HAD BEEN BROKEN IN), AND IT MENTIONS "OCCASIONAL" BRAKE NOISE. THIS NOISE IS CONSTANT! I TOLD THE FORDCOMPANY AND DEALERSHIP THAT I FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THESE BRAKES. THEY SHOULD NOT BE MAKING THIS KIND OF NOISE ALL THE TIME AND THE NOISE IS ONLY GETTING WORSE! THE DEALERSHIP (ELMWOOD PARK, NJ) HAS TOLD ME THEY WILL NOT CHECK THE BRAKES AGAIN UNDER WARRANTY AND WILL CHARGE ME IF I ASK THEM TO CHECK THEM AGAIN (THEY CHECKED THEM AT 2000 MILES AND THEN AGAIN AT 8000 MILES). THE FORD MOTOR COMPANY HAS FAILED TO ANSWER MY REQUESTS VERBALLY AND A SECOND TIME PUT INTO WRITING TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR ABOUT THIS MATTER. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR! *AK

TWICE SINCE WE PURCHASED THIS CAR, IT HAS STALLED. ONCE AT START-UP, AND ONCE ENTERING A BUSY 4-LANE ROAD. BOTH INCIDENTS OCCURRED AFTER THE CAR HAD SAT TURNED OFF FOR 30 MINUTES FOLLOWING BEING DRIVEN AT HIGH SPEEDS (45-65 MPH) FOR AT LEAST 1 HOUR. BOTH TIMES THE CAR RAN ROUGH FOLLOWING THE STALL. THE CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP TWICE, BUT THE MECHANICS CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. TALKING ON THE PHONE, ONE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THAT FORD HAS BEEN HAVING TROUBLE WITH GASOLINE ADDITIVES CAUSING THE FOCUS TO STALL, BUT WHEN I MENTIONED IT AT THE DEALERSHIP, EVERYONE DENIED KNOWLEDGE OF THIS STATEMENT. WHILE I WAS AT THE SHOP, ANOTHER FOCUS OWNER REPORTED THE SAME PROBLEMS. THIS CAR WAS BOUGHT SO THAT WE HAD A SAFE AND RELIABLE VEHICLE, IT HAS BEEN NEITHER. *AK
I HAVE BEEN COMPLETELY DISSATISFIED WITH THIS FORD PRODUCT. I DIDN'T PUT MORE INFORMATION IN THIS REPORT BECAUSE I WASN'T SURE I WAS DOING IT RIGHT. I PLAN TO RETURN THE VEHICLE TO THE SHOP AGAIN TODAY BECAUSE LAST TIME IT WAS THERE, THEY FIXED THE IDLE, WINDOW, AND NOISY SUSPENSION...GUESS WHAY, I STILL HAVE ALL THOSE SAME PROBLEMS!!!
WHILE DRIVING ABOUT 45 MPH VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UP TO 80 MPH. CONSUMER TRIED TO REDUCE SPEED BY STEPPING ON THE BRAKES AND USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IN ORDER TO STOP ON THE SIDE OF ROAD. AFTER STOPPED, STEAM WAS COMING OUT OF VEHICLE AND ENGINE REVVED FOR 45 SECONDS. *AK *ML
I BOUGHT THE CAR IN JUNE OF 2000 SINCE THIS TIME THE CAR HAS HAD A NUMBER OF RECALLS ON THE CAR. I FEEL THAT THE PEOPLE THAT BOUGHT THE 2000 MODEL OF THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE LIABLE TO PAY THE AMOUNT THE CONTACT WAS SIGNED. DUE TO THE FACT THAT AT THE TIME THE CAR WAS BOUGHT, THE PEOPLE THAT BOUGHT THE CAR DIDN'T KNOW THAT MOST OF THE CAR'S LIFE WOULD BE IN THE SHOP BEING FIXED. ALSO FORD KNEW THAT THE FOCUS WAS PRONE TO THIS HAPPENING.

THIRD GEAR WOULD GRIND, AND SOMETIMES COULD NOT GET INTO THIRD GEAR. WHEN ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE WILL NOT GO INTO 3RD, AND CONSUMER IS FORCED TO SLOW DOWN. THIS COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. NEUTRAL SWITCH CLIP BROKE OFF, AND CAN'T START THE CAR UNLESS PUSHING SWITCH. *AK
KEY HAD TROUBLE GOING INTO THE IGNITION SWITCH, WHEN IT FINALLY DID GO IN, IT WILL NOT TURN. CAR WILL NOT START. CAR NEEDED TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED IT WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY NOR WAS THERE A RECALL ON IT.*JB
CAR OFF AT REFUELING. AFTER FILL-UP, CAR STARTED AND FUEL GAUGE READS EMPTY AND LOW-FUEL INDICATOR ILLUMINATES. DEALER REPLACED SENDER&FUEL PUMP AND THIS HAS NOT RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. AFTER DRIVEN SEVERAL MILES (>10) FUEL GAUGE WORKS AGAIN. CUSTOMER TOLD TO DEAL WITH IT.*AK
VEHICLE KEEPS ON STALLING WHILE IN MOTION. VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT THE DEALER ONCE. JUST GOT IT BACK FROM THE DEALER, AND HAS STALLED 3 TIMES ON THE SAME DAY. CONSUMER IS CONTACTING THE LEMON LAW.
RECALL 99V346/ CRUISE CONTROL. AFTER RECALL REPAIRS WERE COMPLETED VEHICLE SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ACCELREATED TO 90MPH. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN NOTIFIED. *AK

CONSUMER BOUGHT VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY AND AT 2700 MILES FRONT BRAKES MADE A SQUEAKING AMND GRINDING NOISE. SHE HAD TAKEN VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP MORE THAN ONCE. SHE HAD A MECHANIC DRIVE VEHICLE, AND HE COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEN, TOOK VEHICLE OUT AGAIN AND GRINDING WAS HEARD. MECHANIC TOLDCONSUMER THAT FRONT BRAKES PAD HAD WARPED, AND LEFT DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT ROTORS HAS TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE IS AT THE DEALERSHIP. *AK

DT: THE CONSUMER COMPLAINED ABOUT A VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM. THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN OCCURRING SINCE THE CONSUMER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE ON MARCH 1, 2000. THE CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER, AND THEY TOLD HER THERE WAS NO PROBLEM. THERE IS NHTSA RECALL 99V346000 ON THIS ISSUE FOR THE 2000 FORD .FOCUS ZX3. THE CONSUMER OWNS A ZTS 2000 FORD FOCUS, WHICH IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. ALSO, THERE IS A FUEL SYSTEM PROBLEM. VEHICLE EXPERIENCES HESITATION, LOSS OF POWER, SURGING, AND DYEING THIS PROBLEM FIRST STARTED ON JUNE 1, 2004. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS THEY TOLD HER THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE FILTER IN THE FUEL TANK. THERE IS NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN 03V482000. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL BECAUSE IT IS A ZTS. *AK
