TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF AND LOST POWER ON OCCASION. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES. THE CONTACT LATER RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V735000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOWN AND COUNTRY FORD (704-557-0596, LOCATED AT 5401 E INDEPENDENCE BLVD, CHARLOTTE, NC 28212) WHERE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CANISTER CONVERTER WAS NOT REPLACED AND THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT BACK TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 151,000.
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AS IF IT SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL THE RPMS ROSE AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED POWERING FORWARD. NO WARNING SIGNALS APPEARED ON THE CONTROL PANEL OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECORDED FAULTS AND THEREFORE THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO THE VEHICLE.
POWER STEERING COMPLETELY STOPPED WORKING. ALMOST WRECKED THE CAR. TRANSMISSION VIBRATES AND MAKES NOISE
POWER STEERING GETS VERY STIFF WHEN STARTING CAR. WAS INTERMITTENT BUT RECENTLY MORE FREQUENT.
WHILE DRIVING ON BUSY INTERSTATE GAS GAUGE INDICATED SUFFICIENT GAS, HOWEVER ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND FOCUS STALLED ON PART OF INTERSTATE IN CITY WITH VERY LITTLE SHOULDER. TEXAS STATE POLICE HAD FOCUS TOWED BECAUSE OF SAFETY HAZARD. FORD DEALER ADVISED SIMPLY RAN OUT OF GAS. NOT TRUE. THEN INTERMITTENT ENGINE LIGHT ON AND HESITATION-STALLING, BUT DEALER NOT ABLE TO DUPLICATE. THEN FEW MONTHS LATER GAS GAUGE ACTING ERRATICALLY, ENGINE LIGHT ON AND FOCUS AGAIN STALLING IN TRAFFIC NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS TIME DEALER DIAGNOSED AS EVAPORATIVE PURGE VALVE FAILURE CAUSING FUEL TANK TO COLLAPSE AND OTHER DAMAGE. COST $2113.42 FOR ALL REPAIRS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HAWKEYE FORD (2027 US-34, RED OAK, IA 51566) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED WITH FAILURE CODES P144A AND P0456. THE CODES INDICATED THAT THE EVAP, PURGE VENT, VENT VALVE, FUEL TANK, AND FUEL PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
CAR STALLING WHILE DRIVING. DEALERSHIP RUNS CODES AND DETERMINES IT'S THE FUEL TANK. IT WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED. $2K FOR PARTS AND LABOR.
ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS MY 2012 FORD FOCUS GOT STUCK IN PARK AND WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD NOT TURN. THE SHIFT STICK WOULD NOT MOVE FROM PARK BACK INTO DRIVE. THE ELECTRICAL LIGHTS 'P N D S' TURNED OFF ON THE DASH. WHEN I PUSHED ON THE BRAKE THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE. LAST NIGHT IT HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AT A RED LIGHT. I TURNED THE CAR ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES. THE DASH BOARD LIGHTS WOULD COME ON , BUT 'P N D S' REMAINED UNLIT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE. AFTER 4 OR 5 TIMES OF TURNING CAR ON AND OFF AND OPENING AND CLOSING THE DOOR (THIS AFFECTS DASH BOARD LIGHTS SOME HOW). THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND THE CAR WOULD ALLOW ME TO SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE WHILE PUSHING ON THE BRAKE.
POWER STEERING ELECTRICAL RACK.I PREPARED TO LEAVE WORK,CHECK ENGINE LIGHT SHOWED ISSUE WITH ELECTRONIC STEERING.TWO WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS EVENT,MY RADIO SYSTEM(LOUD CRACKLING)FAILED.WITH NO POWER STEERING ASSIST,DROVE HOME,TWO MILES.I CALLED FORD DEALER TO HAVE CAR TOWER TO THEIR SHOP.
SPEAKERS HAVE A STATIC POPPING NOISE AND THEN THE COMPUTER STOPPED WORKING, IT WENT EVEN TURN ON....

WHILE MAKING A LEFT TURN AT 15 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE STALLED AND CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. STAR FORD LINCOLN (1101 S BRAND BLVD, GLENDALE, CA 91204, (818) 956-0977) WAS INFORMED OF THE CRASH. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V523000 (POWER TRAIN). ADDITIONALLY, THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE AND CLUTCH WERE REPLACED ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2017. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 76,000.
POWER STEERING WENT OUT COMPLETELY. ON A 3 AND A HALF HOUR TRIP I STOPPED TO GET GAS, TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER PUMPING GAS I STARTED THE CAR AND A FAULT APPEARED "POWER STEERING LOSS, STOP SAFELY". HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE MECHANIC AND REPLACED THE POWER STEERING RACK. DRIVING IT HOME THE POWER STEERING RACK AND COMPUTER FAULTED AGAIN WHILE DOIN 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY! THIS IS UNBELIEVABLY DANGEROUS. WITH THE CONSIDERABLE ABOUT OF PROBLEMS LIKE THIS THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL ALREADY.
CLUTCH AND FRONT SEAL DEFECTIVE CAUSING TRANSMISSION FLUID TO LEAK OUT THEREBY CAUSING TRANSMISSION BEARINGS TO FAIL. FORD ADMITS TO DEFECTIVE FRONT SEALS AND WILL REPLACE FOR FREE BUT REFUSES TO COVER TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT WAS DUE TO THEIR DEFECTIVE SEALS.
I WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR KEPT TURNING OF. IT HAPPENED WHEN I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN I WAS DRIVING. IT DOESN'T SHUTTER AND STALL, IT JUST SHUTS OFF. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WITH P1450 AND P0456. IT IS EVIDENTLY A KNOWN ISSUE. THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2010-2011 FORD FUSIONS FOR THE EXACT SAME THING. "SOME OF THESE VEHICLES MIGHT HAVE A CANISTER PURGE VALVE THAT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY, CAUSING INTERNAL PRESSURE CHANGES INSIDE THE FUEL TANK. REPEATED PRESSURE CHANGES INSIDE THE TANK COULD RESULT IN A CRACK ON THE TOP OF THE TANK, POSSIBLY ALLOWING FUEL TO LEAK. A FUEL LEAK IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN LEAD TO A FIRE." THERE IS NO RECALL FOR THE FORD FOCUS MODELS AFFECTED, EVEN THOUGH IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND NOT RELATED TO NORMAL WEAR. IT IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. IT WAS A VERY SCARY EXPERIENCE AND A VERY COSTLY ONE TO REPAIR. I AM UNDER 60,000 MILES. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THERE IS A RECALL ON ONE MODEL, BUT NOT THE OTHER FOR THE EXACT SAME MANUFACTURER ISSUE. THE ESTIMATED REPAIR COST IS $1800 FROM THE FORD DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I WAS ALMOST HIT, BECAUSE IT HAPPENED WHILE I WAS MAKING A TURN. IT CAUSED ME EXTREME ANXIETY. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST MANUFACTURER ISSUE I HAVE HAD WITH THIS CAR. NOT LONG AFTER GETTING IT, I HAD TRANSMISSION ISSUES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE VEHICLE SLID DUE TO SNOW AND ICE ON THE ROAD. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A STOP SIGN AND A TREE. THE CONTACT TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND CALLED THE POLICE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A COLLISION CENTER WHERE IT REMAINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT TAKATA WAS NOT THE MANUFACTURER OF THE AIR BAGS IN THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,600.
THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WILL NO LONGER LATCH. AT FIRST IT BECAME HARD TO CLICK IN OR OUT THEN STOPPED WORKING ENTIRELY. IT HAS NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY ACCIDENT ANY TIME NEAR THIS MALFUNCTION.
I HAVE HAD MY FORD FOCUS FOR 4 YEARS NOW AND I HAVE RECENTLY STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE RADIO/SYNC. LOAD NOISES WILL INTERRUPT THE RADIO OR COME ON EVEN IF RADIO IS OFF. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME A NUMBER OF TIMES WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AND SCARED THE LIVING DAYLIGHT OUT OF ME CAUSING ME TO SWERVE IN TO THE OTHER LANE OR CAUSED ME TO SLAM ON MY BREAKS WITH CARS BEHIND ME. I HAVE NOTICED THAT MANY OTHER FOR FOCUS OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUES AND DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS HASN'T BEEN RECALLED! IT IS VERY UNSAFE AND WON'T STOP WHEN CAR IS TURNED OFF AND KEY REMOVED. PLEASE HELP! IT IS GETTING WORSE!
PULLING OUT OF DAYCARE ON A CITY STREET, THE ENGINE STARTING CHUGGING. THE TRANSMISSION/ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE SLOWLY TO MAKE IT HOME. CHUGGING EACH TIME I TRIED TO ACCELERATE. EXTREMELY SCARY ESPECIALLY WITH 3 KIDS IN THE CAR. I DRIVE ON STATE RD. 82 FOR WORK AND PICK UP THE KIDS. VERY DANGEROUS. THIS WILL BE THE THIRD OR FOURTH TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I NEED IT REPAIRED AT NO COST TO ME.
STARTING IN OCTOBER 2017, MY POWER STEERING FAILED WHILE OPERATING MY CAR. THE PROBLEM HAS STARTED HAPPENING INTERMITTENT AND UNEXPECTEDLY. SOMETIMES, THE ISSUE OCCURS WHEN TURNING ON THE CAR (BEFORE EVER TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL). OTHER TIMES, IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING (BOTH TIMES I WAS GOING STRAIGHT AND HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD).. WITHOUT POWERSTEERING, IT MAKES IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER AT HIGHER SPEEDS AND IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. THE VEHICLE DIP BEAM BULB (LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS) BURN OUT, ON AVERAGE EVERY THREE TO FOUR MONTHS. WE HAVE REPLACED SAID BULBS (BOTH LEFT LOW BEAM AND RIGHT LOW BEAM) AT LEAST SIX TIMES IN THE APPROXIMATE TWO PLUS YEARS WE HAVE OWNED SAID VEHICLE. MOST RECENT EVENT, WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 24, 2018
MY POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHEN I WAS TRAVELING HOME FROM WORK ON THE INTERSTATE. I CAME UPON A CURVE TO THE RIGHT ON THE INTERSTATE AND I ALMOST HIT ANOTHER VEHICLE TO THE LEFT OF ME AS IT WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE WHEEL BUT I SLOWLY MANAGED TO PULL THE VEHICLE OVER ONTO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I TURNED MY CAR OFF AND SAT THERE FOR A MINUTE AND TURNED IT BACK ON AND MY POWER STEERING WAS WORKING FINE AND PROCEEDED HOME SLOWLY, AND WAS VERY LEERY IT WOULD GO OUT ON ME AGAIN. RIGHT BEFORE I GOT HOME ON MY STREET, IT WENT OUT ONE MORE TIME AND I ALMOST SIDE SWIPED ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN I WAS TURNING TO THE RIGHT. IT TOOK ALL THE STRENGTH I HAD TO TURN THE WHEEL TO AVOID SIDE SWIPING THE CAR ON THE LEFT EVEN THOUGH I WAS ONLY GOING 20 MPH.THE POWER STEERING WAS OUT FOR GOOD THIS TIME. I HAD IT TOWED TO A SHOP AND I FOUND OUT IT WAS GONNA BE $1800 TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR MANY FORD FOCUS'S AND FORD NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS AS A RECALL! I COULD HAVE BEEN HURT BADLY ON THE INTERSTATE OR HURT SOMEONE ELSE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM AND I HAD NO WARNING! IT SCARED ME TO DEATH.
ON MANY DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY STEERING WHEEL WILL COMPLETELY LOCK UP. TODAY WAS NOT THE FIRST DAY - JUST NOW KNOWING I CAN REPORT THIS. HAPPENS FREQUENTLY AND RANDOMLY SINCE GETTING THE VEHICLE. THIS IS DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING, AND IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE ON THESE FORDS. WHEN THE WHEEL LOCKS UP - YOU HAVE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF/BACK ON 4 OR 5 TIMES IT USUALLY UNLOCKS IT. AS FAR AS THE ELECTRICAL GOES - THE CAR IS POSSESSED. IF YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND REMOVE THE KEYS - THE RADIO CONTINUES TO PLAY EVEN AFTER GETTING OUT OF THE CAR. THE KEYLESS ENTRY WILL NOT LOCK THE DOORS. WINDSHIELD WIPERS WILL GO OFF RANDOMLY WITHOUT KEYS IN THE IGNITION. SOMETIMES THE RADIO WILL RANDOMLY TURN ITSELF ALL THE WAY UP AND IF YOU TRY TO TURN THE WHOLE THING OFF, IT DOES NOT RESPOND. MANY ISSUES WITH THIS CAR!
CAR WORKED WELL YESTERDAY. TURNED IT ON TODAY AMBER LIGHT AND TONE POWER ASSIST STEERING NEED SERVICE. POWER STEERING FAILED OVERNIGHT. CAR HAS ABOUT 41K MILES ON IT, ESTIMATE FOR REPAIR $2000+.
STARTED CAR AND STEERING ASSIST FAULT CAME IN, DROVE IT TO DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD 110$ JUST TO DIAGNOSE IT. FROM THE LOOKS OF IT SAME PROBLEM THAT EVERYONE ELSE IS HAVING, THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED
Y 2012 FORD FOCUS NEEDS A NEW FUEL TANK, FUEL PUMP, PURGE VALVE AND CANISTER PER TSB 16-0062. IT'S BECAUSE THE PURGE VALVE WAS MALFUNCTIONING AND HAS COLLAPSED MY GAS TANK (PLASTIC) AND I NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP, GAS TANK, FUEL TUBE ASSEMBLY. ALL COST $1350.00. MANY OTHERS HAVE THIS PROBLEM BUT IT APPEARS THAT THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS. THIS IS SOMETHING THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED AS A RECALL, NOT AN "EFF" YOU TO THE CUSTOMER THAT HAS TO DEAL W/ A KNOWN ISSUE TO FORD. WHEN STOPPED, THE VEHICLE WOULD IDLE ROUGH. THE ENGINE ACTUALLY DIED ON MY DAUGHTER WHO WAS DRIVING IN TRAFFIC THIS PAST SUNDAY ONE OF THE HIGHWAYS IN LA. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON W/ CODE P1450. THEN THE FUEL GAUGE BECAME HIGHLY INACCURATE, SHOWING A FULL TANK OF FUEL WHEN I MAY BE AT HALF OR LOWER. CALLED AAA, MY DAUGHTER GOT HERSELF OUT OF THE DANGEROUS SITUATION, NOW MY CAR IS BEING REPAIRED, I HAVE NO CHOICE. "FORD PURGE VALVE" MY 2012 FORD FOCUS WAS INCORRECTLY DIAGNOSED AT LONGMONT FORD FOR A P0420 FAULT CODE. MY COMPLAINT WAS A ROUGH IDLE AT TIMES, VEHICLE DIES AT TIMES WHEN COMING TO A STOP. (DID NOT STATE LOW POWER AT ALL TIMES NOR ANY ENGINE HEATING ISSUES) LONGMONT FORD STATED A A BACK-PRESSURE TEST WAS PERFORMED ON THE EXHAUST AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER WAS PLUGGED PER DTC P0420. FORTUNATELY I DID NOT HAVE THE $1700+ DOLLAR REPAIR PERFORMED AND LOOKED FOR ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS. (NO SPECIFICATIONS GIVEN BY LONGMONT FORD TO CONDEMN CATALYTIC CONVERTER) ADDITIONAL DIAGNOSIS FOUND THE EVAP CANISTER PURGE VALVE STUCK OPEN - NOTE: FOUND FORD HAS KNOWN ISSUES WITH THIS VALVE AND AT THE TIME OF ATTEMPTING TO OBTAIN ONE FOR REPLACEMENT WAS TOLD THEY ARE ON NATIONAL BACKORDER. I BELIEVE THIS KNOWN FAULTY COMPONENT IS A SAFETY ISSUE DUE TO TWO REASONS. 1) CAN CAUSE VEHICLE TO DIE IN TRAFFIC 2) ALSO KNOWN TO SUCK THE FUEL TANK CLOSED AND DAMAGE THE FUEL PUMP.
TRANSMISSION WENT TO NEUTRAL WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH. DISPLAYED WARNING THAT TRANSMISSION OVERHEATED. PILLED ON TO SIDE OF ROAD AVOIDING BEING REAR ENDED BY SEMI TRUCK. TURNED VEHICLE OFF WAITED 10 MIN RESTARTED VEHICLE DROVE 1/2 MILE BACK TO DEALERSHIP NO WARNING MESSAGES. 4TH TIME INTO DEALERSHIP FOR TRANSMISSION FAILURE.
THE POWER STEERING ON THIS CAR IS DETECTIVE. IT CAN GO OUT WITHOUT NOTICE AND MAKE THE CAR HARD TO DRIVE. ON MANY, MANY OCCASIONS MY POWER STEERING WOULD NOT WORK WHEN I STARTED MY CAR. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND RETAINED POWER STEERING ONCE AGAIN. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT ALL TOGETHER THE POWER STEERING ON THESE 2012 FORD FOCUS IS DETECTIVE AND THE FORD COMPANY NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND A RECALL ISSUED.
DRIVING ON A CITY STREET WHEN IT JUST WOULD NOT GO AFTER A RED LIGHT. WHEN I DID GET IT TO MOVE OFF OF THE CITY STREET TO A PARKING LOT IT WAS HARD TO STEER. ALL THE LIGHTS STARTED FLASHING. I COULD NOT LOCK THE DOORS WITH MY REMOTE, WOULD NOT START. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO MY HOUSE. THE NEXT MORNING I PUT MY CODE READER ON THE VEHICLE AND FOUND ABOUT 13 FAULT CODES WHICH I RESET SINCE THEN I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF MY VEHICLE SHUTTING DOWN, HARD STEERING AND TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING OR GOING INTO GEAR. DISPLAYS TRANSMISSION OVERHEATING, TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW. WONT,T GO INTO GEAR. HORN STOPPED WORKING AND WITHUT DOING ANYTHING IT SUDDENLY STARTED WORKING.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND TOOK IT TO FORD DEALERSHIP TO GET IT FIXED. THEY INFORMED US THAT THE PURGE VALVE WAS FAULTY WHICH CAUSED THE FUEL TANK TO BE DEFORMED. TOTAL COST OF FIX IS $1,000 PLUS AND THEY ALSO WANTED TO CHARGE $321 TO CHECK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUE, THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM TO FORD AND THE DEALERSHIP. THIS IS A SYSTEMIC ISSUE AND THE PART WAS ALREADY RECALLED ON THE FUSION BUT NOT THE FOCUS, THEREFORE, FORD REFUSES TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PART ON THE FOCUS. THE DEALERSHIP SAID WE COULD FIX THE PURGE VALVE ONLY BUT THE GAS GAUGE WOULD NOT READ CORRECTLY. WHAT KIND OF ADVICE IS THAT? A BANDAID ON A SYSTEMIC ISSUE DUE TO A FAULTY MANUFACTURED PART THAT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BE UNSAFE WHEN DRIVEN. I HAVE FILED A CASE NUMBER WITH FORD AND THEY REFUSE TO CORRECT THEIR FAULTY PART. FORD RECOMMENDED I FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA.
FUEL TANK OR VAPOR RECOVERY SYSTEM FAULTS IN THE PURGE VALVE AND VAPOR CANISTER CAUSE EXCESSIVE VACUUM IN THE FUEL TANK WHICH THEN BEGINS TO COLLAPSE. EFFECTS INCLUDE FALSE FUEL READINGS AND 'DISTANCE TO EMPTY' INDICATIONS IN THE TRIP COMPUTER, AS WELL AS A REDUCED OVERALL FUEL CAPACITY. DRIVING AT 70 MPH SPEED LIMIT DURING RUSH HOUR IN THE MIDDLE OF A 3 LANE INTERSTATE, THE 'DISTANCE TO EMPTY' READING WAS 25 MILES AND MY DESTINATION LESS THAN 3 MILES AWAY. I RAN OUT OF FUEL AND HAD TO MANEUVER TO THE SHOULDER IN A VEHICLE WITHOUT POWER.
THE TRANSMISSION RACES AND STAY THERE THIS TRANSMISSION HAS ONLY LASTED A YEAR AND THREE MONTHS NOW FORD DOES'NT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH IT. THEY KNOWINGLY KNEW THERE TRANSMISSION WERE FAULTY. NOW THEY WANT ME TO COME OUT POCKET $611 TO PUT ANOTHER BAD TRANSMISSION IN.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, AT FREEWAYS SPEEDS (APPROXIMATELY 65MPH), MY CAR'S ENGINE SPONTANEOUSLY STALLED AND SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL, ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS WENT ON, AND BOTH THE ENGINE AND BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. WHILE STILL MOVING AT FREEWAY SPEEDS, I COULD NOT GET THE CAR ENGINE TO TURN BACK ON OR GET THE TRANSMISSION TO RE-ENGAGE OUT OF NEUTRAL, AND THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO NOT WORK. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT JAMMED, AS IF THERE WAS A POWER FAILURE IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM; I COULD NOT GET THE PEDAL TO MOVE. I WAS ABLE TO COAST WITHOUT POWER TO AN OFF-RAMP (I WAS STILL TRAVELING >45 MPH ON THE OFF-RAMP), AND THEN USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP ONCE ON A SURFACE STREET. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES, I TURNED IT BACK ON, AND THE PROBLEM DID NOT RETURN. I DROVE THE REST OF THE WAY HOME ON SURFACE STREETS. FOLLOWING UP ON THIS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON; AN AUTO SHOP REPLACED THE EVAP PURGE VALVE ASSEMBLY AND OXYGEN SENSOR (SEE ATTACHED REPAIR INVOICE) AND THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. BASED ON THIS EXPERIENCE, IT SEEMS LIKE THE CAR STOPPED DUE TO AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL SYSTEM, MAKING THE FUEL/AIR RATIO IN THE ENGINE TOO LEAN. I DO NOT KNOW WHY THE BRAKES ALSO STOPPED WORKING. I FEEL VERY FORTUNATE THAT THIS OCCURRED AT NIGHT WHEN THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC ON THE FREEWAY. IF THERE WERE OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD, THIS WOULD HAVE CERTAINLY CAUSED AN ACCIDENT AS I COULD NOT SAFELY ACCELERATE OR BRAKE. THE ENGINE STALLING WAS NOT PRECEDED BY ANY SIGNIFICANT ACCELERATION OR BRAKING.

TRANSMISSION MODULE RECALL PROBLEM GETTING WORSE IT HAS IN THE SHOP 3 TIMES , ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE AT A LIGHT ON A HILL.
POWER STEERING FAILED AROUND 75000 MILES SUDDENLY WHILE DRIVING. I LET IT BE BECAUSE IT WENT AWAY AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF BUT SINCE JANUARY 2018, THE CAR HAS BEEN PERMANENTLY WITHOUT POWER STEERING. FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE WAS NO HELP AND ONLY REQUESTED THAT I GET A DIAGNOSTIC THAT COST 100$. THE DIAGNOSTIC CONFIRMED WHAT I SAID - THAT THE STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THAT IT WAS NOT WORKING. THEY ESTIMATED THE REPAIR AT 2100$. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. IF SOMETHING WERE TO RUN OUT IN THE ROAD I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO TURN THE WHEEL FAST ENOUGH. ADDITIONALLY, I DON'T DRIVE OTHERS REALLY ANYMORE BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE PUTTING THEIR SAFETY AT RISK. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT FORD NEEDS TO FIX. I AM A LOYAL CUSTOMER AND I WROTE TO FORD EXECS (YES WROTE BECAUSE THEY WOULD NOT GIVE ME A NUMBER) MULTIPLE TIMES IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS. THEIR RESPONSE WAS THAT NHTSA SAID IT WASNT AN ISSUE SO THEY AREN'T GOING TO DO ANYTHING. NHTSA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND REQUIRE FORD TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINS FOR THIS ISSUE AND THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS MADE FOR THE SAME ISSUE IN OTHER FORD MODELS, SO I AM UNABLE TO UNDERSTAND HOW THIS HAS NOT BEEN RECALLED FOR THE 2012 FORD FOCUS. ITS AN EMBARRASSMENT FOR FORD AND NHTSA AND MAKES ME AND PROBABLY ALL OF THESE OTHER PREVIOUSLY LOYAL CUSTOMERS NOT WANT TO BUY FORD AGAIN. TAKE ACTION. PEOPLE AND THEIR SAFETY ARE DEPENDING ON YOU.
I HAVE 2012 FORD FOCUS TITANIUM WITH HANDLING PACKAGE. EARLIER THIS YEAR IS WHEN THIS ISSUE STARTED. I PULLED UP TO GAS STATION TO PUMP FUEL INTO MY CAR. AFTER I WAS DONE I GOT BACK INTO MY CAR AND PUSHED THE PUSH START BUTTON. THE CAR STRUGGLED TO TURN ON AND STAY ON AND EVENTUALLY STAYED ON WITHOUT ANY ISSUES SO THIS LASTED MAYBE 5-10 SECONDS. EACH TIME I STARTED UP THE CAR I HAD ZERO ISSUES WITH GETTING CAR TURNED ON. THIS ISSUE ONLY OCCURS WHEN I HAVE JUST PUT GAS INTO THE GAS TANK AND I'M STARTING UP THE CAR. FILLER NECK HAS BEEN REPLACED, FUEL SENSOR AND HAVE EVEN HAD A EVAP TEST DONE FOR LEAKS AND THE ISSUE IS STILL AROUND. I'VE HAD A DIAGNOSTIC DONE AND THE CODE CAME BACK AS THE CAR IS RELEASING TOO MUCH FUEL. I DON'T REMEMBER THE CODE OR THE EXACT WORDING BUT THAT WAS WHAT THE CODE WAS SAYING.

I PURCHASED A USED 2012 FORD FOCUS THAT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST STEERING. AT ABOUT 116,500 I STARTED HAVING TROUBLE TURNING THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. AN "POWER ASSIST MALFUNCTION" MESSAGE APPEARED, BUT AFTER RESTARTING THE CAR IT "SOLVED" THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, AT AROUND 118,000 IT CAME ON PERMANENTLY WHILE I WAS MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN CAUSING ME TO HIT A GRANITE CURB PUTTING A DENT IN THE RIM.. I RECENTLY HAD TO HAVE THE CAR INSPECTED (01/05/2019) AND IT FAILED THE SAFETY PORTION OF THE INSPECTION. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, AND I UNDERSTAND IT WILL COST ME OVER $2,000 DOLLARS TO HAVE "FIXED". THIS TYPE OF "STEERING UNITS" HAVE BEEN RECALLED BY FORD ON PREVIOUS MODELS OF THEIR VEHICLES, BUT NOT ON THE 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHY? THIS PUTS LIVES AT RISK BECAUSE OF THEIR FAULTY DESIGN AND REALLY NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. IT IS DRIVEABLE BUT EXTREMELY HARD TO TURN WHEN AT SLOW (5MPH TO 15MPH) SPEEDS, BUT STILL, IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO PARK IN A CROWDED PARKING LOT.
Backup camera works intermittently. More often than not it does not work at all. Sometimes it works for a few seconds and then stops working. A message appears on the screen to take the car in to the dealer. But the warning beep sound still works.

I DID A TINY BIT OF RESEARCH AND QUICKLY FOUND THAT MANY OTHER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT YOUR AGENCY HAS HAD COMPLAINTS AND ARE OR DID INVESTIGATE THIS PROBLEM. IS THIS CAUSED BY AN EXPOSURE TO EXTREME HEAT FROM OTHER ENGINE COMPONENTS? THE FAULTS ALWAYS STARTED UPON STARTING THE CAR AND I WOULD TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON,IT WOULD GO AWAY BUT KNOW IT WON'T GO AWAY AND I CANNOT DRIVE IT WITHOUT POWER STEERING.

A NOTICE ON THE DASH APPEARED AT STARTUP(STATIONARY) , STATING POWER STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED. THIS MAKES STEERING VERY DIFFICULT. FORD REPRESENTATIVE NAMED PAM SAID "REASON IT WAS NOT INVOLVED IN RECALL IS BECAUSE BUILT AT DIFFERENT TIME AND USING DIFFERENT PART AFFECTED BY THE RECALL." I SAID BUT THEY ALL USED SAME TEMKIN MANUF. PART. HE SAID, "RECALLS ARE VIN SPECIFIC." WOULD NOT PAY FOR REPAIR, AND SAID MY COMPLAINT WOULD BE FORWARDED TO THE "APPROPRIATE INTERNAL DEPARTMENT".
