I JUST RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS CAR ON SATURDAY FEBRUARY 7, USED FROM A CARMAX DEALERSHIP. I WAS TOLD THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE CAR AND THAT EVERYTHING WAS FINE. TEST DRIVING I NOTICED A LITTLE HESITATION BUT NOT MUCH. ON SUNDAY AS I WAS SITTING WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT I FELT A SHUDDER VIBRATION AND THE CAR SLID BACKWARDS. TO MY SURPRISE AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE I NOTICED THAT THIS CAR IS NOTORIOUS FOR THAT. ON WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 11, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO CARMAX AND WAS TOLD IT HAD TO GO TO THE DEALERSHIP IN ORDER FOR IT TO BE DIAGNOSED. WAIT?? I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR!!! I AM WAITING FOR A CALL BACK FROM CARMAX BECAUSE I WANT MY MONEY BACK. TOO MUCH AND I JUST PURCHASED IT. *TR
WHEN TRYING TO ENTER A 50 MPH INTERSECTION FROM A SIDE ROAD THE 6 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION CHATTERS, JERKS,SLIPS AND HESITATES BEFORE MOVING THE CAR WHICH MAKES ENTRY INTO INTERSECTION FRIGHTENING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 118,000.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE FOCUS IN MENOMENEE WI, WHERE SHE IS IN HER MASTERS PROGRAM AT STOUT UNIVERSITY. SHE WAS HEADING SOUTH AND THE YOUNG MAN IN THE OTHER VEHICLE WAS HEADING NORTH, HE TURNED LEFT IN FRONT OF HER SMASHING HER VEHICLE. HIS AIR BAGS WENT OFF OURS DID NOT. HE WAS FOUND TO BE AT FAULT AND A TICKET WAS ISSUED. I CALLED FORD ABOUT THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD LOOK AT IT IF I BROUGHT IT IN. I EXPLAINED TO HIM IT WASN'T DRIVABLE SO HE SAID I WOULD HAVE TO PAY MYSELF TO BRING IT IN AND HAVE IT LOOKED AT BUT I SHOULD BE HAPPY MY DAUGHTER WAS NOT HURT MORE SERIOUSLY. BUT I'M VERY CONCERNED THAT NOT 1 OF HER AIR BAGS WENT OFF AND THEY WERE NOT THE LEAST WORRIED ABOUT IT. THE CLAIMS ADJUSTER LOOKED AT THE CAR AND HE SAID THEY SHOULD ABSOLUTELY HAVE DEPLOYED BUT NOTHING IN THE FOCUS, BUT HIS WENT OFF AND THE FOCUS WAS COMPLETELY TOTALED IN THE ACCIDENT BUT NOT HIS CAR. *TR
ON JANUARY 27TH.. MY CAR (2012 FORD FOCUS SE 4DOOR 5 SPEED) MY CAR HAD 33,342 MILES ON IT ONCE IT CAME INTO THE SERVICE BAY AT ASHEVILLE FORD IN ASHEVILLE NC. I WAS ADVISED THAT THE CAR WOULD HAVE TO STAY FOR THE DAY AND LOOK INTO THE SITUATION. CAR WOULD DIE AT RANDOM, LIGHTS WOULD COME ON LIKE A CHRISTMAS TREE (OIL PRESSURE LIGHT, BATTERY LIGHT, TRACTION LIGHT, ESC LIGHT, INFORMATION LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT) AND A MESSAGE WOULD APPEAR (ENGINE MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW). ASHEVILLE FORD WAS ALSO NOTIFIED OF A SUN VISOR POPPING, SEAT BELTS NOT RELEASING AND CREAKING NOISES IN THE B PILLARS ON BOTH SIDES, AND THE AC WAS BLOWING HOT AIR AGAIN (THIS WAS REPAIRED ON THE 23RD BEFORE AND ALREADY BLOWING HOT AIR). *TR
TRANSMISSION SHAKING AND GRINDING NOISES; VEHICLES HESITATING AND VIBRATING; TRANSMISSION NOISES AND THE TRANSMISSION NOT SHIFTING PROPERLY. ALL OF WHICH AFFECT THE ABILITY TO DRIVE THE VEHICLES AND HAD RAISE SAFETY CONCERNS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A RIGHT TURN, THE POWER STEERING FAILED AND THE MESSAGE BOARD DISPLAYED LOSS OF STEERING, STOP VEHICLE. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HIT A CURVE AND FRACTURED THE LEFT STRUT AND RACK AND PINION. THE VEHICLE WAS ONLY ABLE TO MOVE WHEN IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION MODULE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE SOFTWARE WAS UPDATED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MODULE NEEDED REPLACEMENT AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000.
OUR 2012 FORD FOCUS, LIKE SO VERY MANY OTHERS, HAS SUCCUMBED TO THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS DELINEATED IN THE FORD OWNER FIELD SERVICE ACTION NUMBER 14M01. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A LOCAL DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT AWAITING A REPLACEMENT PART (5 WEEKS AND COUNTING). I HAVE BEEN READING MORE AND MORE COMPLAINTS THAT, EVEN AFTER THE WORK IS DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, THE SAME OR WORSE ISSUES ARE OCCURRING. THIS IS AN UPDATE TO REPORT FILED 1-4-15 (NHTSA ID #10669989). ON 1-6-15 WE HAD OUR 2012 FOCUS SERVICED AT A DEALERSHIP FOR A SERIOUS TRANSMISSION FAILURE DESCRIBED ON PREVIOUS REPORT. THAT DEALERSHIP PERFORMED "ADAPTIVE LEARNING STRATEGY AND CLEARED ALL THE CODES". VERBAL SUMMARY OF THE PROBLEM FROM THE SERVICE ADVISOR WAS THAT THE COMPUTER HAD BEEN CONFUSED BY A CHANGE IN TRANSMISSION DEMANDS. WE HAD TAKEN A DAY TRIP INTO HILLY, CONGESTED SAN FRANCISCO. OUR TYPICAL DRIVE IS SMALL TOWN, COUNTRY HIGHWAY ON RELATIVELY FLAT TERRAIN. THE COMPUTER DID NOT KNOW HOW TO BEHAVE WITH DIFFERENT TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND TERRAIN. AFTER THAT SERVICING, ALL SEEMED FINE UNTIL A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER ON 1-23-15, WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER AT A 4-WAY STOP. I HIT THE GAS PEDAL ON GREEN, BUT THE TRANSMISSION WOULDN'T ENGAGE PROPERLY, ALTHOUGH THE ENGINE WAS REVVING--SIMILAR SYMPTOMS TO LAST TIME.AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS, THE CAR WAS NOT ABLE TO RELIABLY ENGAGE, ONLY SPORADICALLY, LIMPING THROUGH A FEW INTERSECTIONS. EVENTUALLY, I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE CAR, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT EVEN TURN OVER.I DECIDED TO USE FORD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AGAIN, TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WE HAD PURCHASED THE CAR FROM. THE ADVISOR AT THAT DEALERSHIP SAW THE WISDOM OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) AND PROGRAMMING IT. AS OF TODAY, 3-9-15, ODOMETER AT 45,556, WE HAVE HAD NO ADDITIONAL SYMPTOMS AND THE CAR IS RUNNING SMOOTHER THAN EVER, EVEN SINCE NEW. WE STILL NEED TO TEST THE CAR ON SAN FRANCISCO HILLS AND MOUNTAIN DRIVING, HOWEVER. MY ADVICE TO OTHERS IS TO INSIST ON A REPLACEMENT OF THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, SEALS AND PROGRAM AT THE FIRST SIGN OF THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. DON'T LET THEM MERELY PERFORM THE " ADAPTIVE LEARNING STRATEGY AND CLEARING OF ALL CODES" ON THE OLD TCM. THAT DID NOT HOLD LONG IN OUR CASE. *TR

WE RESPONDED TO FORDS NOTICE 14M01 WHICH IS IN REFERENCE TO THE PROBLEMS OF THE TRANSMISSION, EXPERIENCED BY 1000S OF FOCUS AND FIESTA OWNERS YEARS 2011-2013. THE 1ST DEALERSHIP WE CONTACTED WAS KEY SCALES LEESBURG FL. AFTER 7 WEEKS OF HASSLES TRYING TO SCHEDULE, THE REPAIRS WERE MADE 1-7&1-8. AS WE TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AT KEY SCALES, THERE WAS A LONG DELAY FROM THE TIME I TURNED KEY UNTIL IT ACTUALLY STARTED. THAT WAS NEVER AN ISSUE BEFORE WE TOOK IT IN. WITHIN A FEW DAYS, THE TRANS BEGAN TO SHUTTER LIKE IT HAD BEFORE, AS WELL AS NOISES, CLANKING, GRINDING AND PROBLEMS WITH IT SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND. I CALLED KEY SCALES AND WAS TOLD ANY REPAIRS WOULD NOW BE AT OUR COST AS THE ORIGINAL 36000 MILE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. THE NOTICE THAT WAS MAILED CLEARLY STATES THAT FORDS WARRANTY ON TRANS IS NOW 7 YRS/100,000 MILES. LET IT BE KNOWN THAT WE ALSO HAVE AN INTENDED WARRANTY THAT WE BOUGHT AT TIME OF PURCHASE FOR 60 MONTHS/100,000 MILES. I THEN CALLED FORD OF CLAREMONT FL. AND THEY AGREED TO LOOK AT THE VEHICLE. WE DROPPED THE CAR OFF ON 1-16 WITH MILEAGE SHOWING 46092. AFTER 5 DAYS I CALLED AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIND A PROBLEM. THE SERVICE ADVISOR WANTED TO HAVE HIS SHOP FOREMAN DRIVE THE CAR HOME THAT NIGHT. I AGREED. I CALLED BACK THE NEXT DAY AND WAS TOLD HE DID EXPERIENCE A PROBLEM BUT AFTER NOTIFYING FORD THEY WERE TOLD IT WAS "WITHIN ACCEPTABLE LIMITS" I WAS TOLD TO COME AND PICK UP VEHICLE THE MILEAGE WAS LISTED AS 46098 WHEN IN FACT IS WAS 46154. (THE DIFFERENCE OF THE FOREMANS DRIVE HOME) WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE IS A BREAKIN PERIOD OF 1000 MILES & NOTHING CAN BE DONE. THE FOLLOWING DAY WE RECEIVED ANOTHER CALL FROM FORDS REGIONAL SERVICE MGR. [XXX]) AND SHE STATED THE "BREAKIN PERIOD" IS NOW 1500 MILES. WE ARE STILL EXPERIENCING SHUTTERING, NOISES, STARTING DELAYS. SCARED TO TAKE CAR ANYWHERE. NEED TO GET TO MICHIGAN IN APRIL. *TR
WAS DRIVING WITH MY MOM WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN HER POWER STEERING GAVE OUT AND IT WAS INCREDIBILITY HARD FOR HER TO STEER. I TOOK OVER AND DROVE HOME NOW I DROVE VEHICLES WITH OUT POWER STEERING BEFORE BUT THIS WAS BY FAR THE TOUGHEST STEERING VEHICLE I DROVE. IT WAS COMPLETELY DANGEROUS AND IRRESPONSIBLE OF FORD TO NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE AS OF YET. THANKFULLY I WAS WITH MY MOM THAT DAY AND NOTHING WORSE HAPPENED BUT IT COULD HAVE ENDED ALOT WORSE. *TR
SHUDDERING WHILE ACCELERATING. GRINDING NOISE WHILE THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IS SHIFTING GEARS. VEHICLE HAS BEEN INTO DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES FOR SHUDDERING AND SHIFTING ISSUES. THE LAST TIME, AT 49K MILES, IT WAS OVER AN 8 WEEK WAIT TO GET THE CAR INTO THE DEALER - THE TRANSMISSION GUYS WERE BACKED UP MONTHS AT ALL SURROUNDING DEALERS. FORD'S REPAIR HAS BEEN TO REPROGRAM THE TRANSMISSION. WE PURCHASED THE CAR NEW AND HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNERS. THE CAR DID NOT SHUDDER AND GRIND WHEN FIRST PURCHASED. AND IT PERFORMS BETTER IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE REPROGRAMMING. BUT AFTER A FEW THOUSAND MILES OF TRAVEL, SHUDDERING AND GRINDING RETURN. ONCE IT STARTS SHUDDERING, I CAN DUPLICATE THIS BEHAVIOR WITHIN 2 MILES OF A FORD DEALERSHIP. THERE IS A ROUNDABOUT AT LIVERNOIS AND HAMLIN ROADS THAT HAS A YIELD FOR INCOMING TRAFFIC. IF THE ROUNDABOUT IS CLEAR, PROCEED INTO THE ROUNDABOUT BETWEEN 5 AND 10 MPH AND ACCELERATE SLOWLY WHILE NAVIGATING THE ROUNDABOUT - AND YOU GET SHUDDERING. PERSONNEL IN THE DEALERSHIPS STATE THAT "DRIVERS JUST DON'T KNOW HOW TO DRIVE THE CAR". I AM A 50+ YEAR OLD DRIVER WITH EXPERIENCE IN BOTH MANUAL AND AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. NO TICKETS NO ACCIDENTS. THIS VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED WITH THE INTENT OF PASSING TO MY CHILDREN WHEN THEY START DRIVING. THE INABILITY TO USE SLOW ACCELERATION WITHOUT SHUDDERING MAKES IT TOO DANGEROUS FOR INEXPERIENCED DRIVERS. ESPECIALLY IN MICHIGAN WHERE WINTER CONDITIONS OFTEN REQUIRE SLOW ACCELERATION TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. PLEASE ACT UPON CONSUMERS BEHALF AND FORCE FORD TO PROVIDE A PERMANENT RESOLUTION. EITHER A FIX THAT PERMANENTLY STOPS THE SHUDDERING OR REPLACEMENT OF THE DEFECTIVE POWERTRAIN COMPONENTS. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2012 FORD FOCUS SEL LAST YEAR. I HAVE HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE. WHEN TAKING OFF (SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR), THE TRANSMISSION MAKES A SHUDDERING NOISE, THE VEHICLE FAILS TO ACCELERATE, AND THE CAR BOUNCES AS IT STRUGGLES TO SHIFT GEARS. I BELIEVE THIS PROBLEM IS WELL KNOWN TO FORD SINCE NUMEROUS CONSUMER WEBSITES HAVE CUSTOMERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. SOON AFTER PURCHASE, I HAD IT BACK IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I HAD A TECHNICIAN DRIVE AROUND WITH ME. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL AND THAT THE CLUTCH PLATE JUST GETS DIRTY BY TOO "GINGERLY" ACCELERATING. HE WALKED ME THROUGH HOW TO POWER BRAKE (HOLDING DOWN THE BRAKE, FLOORING THE GAS PEDAL, AND THEN RELEASING THE BRAKE TO QUICKLY ACCELERATE THROUGH THE FIRST 3 GEARS). THIS APPEARED TO HELP FOR A DAY OR TWO, BUT I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS THE SOLUTION FOR A $12,000 CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED VEHICLE THAT I PURCHASED. I RECENTLY RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE CLAIMING THAT THE TCM SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WARRANTY WOULD BE EXTENDED. I HAD THIS UPGRADE COMPLETED WITH NO IMPROVEMENT TO THE SITUATION. THE TECHNICIAN THAT I SPOKE WITH SAID THE UPGRADE WILL PROBABLY NOT HELP THE SHUTTERING. HE SUGGESTED AGAIN THAT I GIVE IT MORE GAS WHEN ACCELERATING. HE SAID SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEING SIMILAR TO A STICK SHIFT STALLING WHEN NOT ENOUGH GAS IS APPLIED. THIS DOES NOT WORK. I GIVE IT MORE GAS TO NO AVAIL. I HAVE ALSO RECENTLY SEEN WHERE A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST FORD FOR SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM CUSTOMERS. MY 17 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER FREQUENTLY DRIVES THIS VEHICLE AND I FEEL IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS PROMPT ATTENTION. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL FORD CUSTOMER FOR MANY YEAR. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT RESOLUTION YOU HAVE FOR MY COMPLAINT.
I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD AND APPROACHING A FOUR WAY STOP SO NOT GOING FAST. MY CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND THEN JERKED FORWARD CAUSING ME TO HAVE TO TURN OFF THE ROAD TO AVOID GOING THROUGH THE STOP SIGN. I INSTEAD HIT THE STOP SIGN. THE CAR HAS TRANSMISSION ISSUES THAT HAVE NOT YET BEEN RESOLVED. *TR
VEHICLE LOST THROTTLE AND EVENTUALLY DIED AND WOULD NOT CRANK. THIS HAPPENED GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. HILLSIDE ASSIST WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. VEHICLE WOULD SHUTTER IN ACCELERATION AT TIMES. TCM HAD BEEN REPROGRAMMED BEFORE THIS HAPPENED BUT DID NOT REALLY FIX THE PROBLEM OF TRANSMISSION SHUTTER. FMC COMPLETELY CHANGED OUT THE TCM AND THIS HELPED FOR THREE MONTHS AND THEN WE HAD COMPLETE TRANSMISSION FAILURE GOING DOWN THE ROAD. WE WERE 1000 MILES OVER OUR POWERTRAIN WARRANTY. FMC SAID THE REVERSE GEAR ALONG WITH SECOND GEAR HAD FAILED. FMC IS REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION AND OUR COST IS $500.00. BOTH INCIDENTS WERE IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN TRANSMISSION FAILURES OCCURRED. THANKFULLY NO ONE ELSE WAS INVOLVED. WE CURRENTLY ARE IN THE FOURTH WEEK OF WAITING ON CAR TO BE FIXED. *TR
THIS IS AN ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE DUAL CLUTCH POWERSHIFT TRANSMISSION THAT HAS STARTED SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR IN NOVEMBER 2014. WHEN I TAKE OFF THE CAR SHUTTERS AND GRINDS AND SOMETIME LOOSES POWER. ON MULTIPLE CASES I HAVE GONE TO PULL OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND THE CAR RANDOMLY HESITATES CAUSING A RISK TO MY SAFETY. ON FEB 13TH 2015 I WAS ON THE FREE WAY AND THE CAR LOCKED IN TO NEUTRAL LEAVING ME STRANDED ON THE FREEWAY. I HAD TO GET IT TOWED. FORD REPLACED THE PCM BUT THE PROBLEM IS RETURNING. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO FORD MULTIPLE TIMES TO HAVE THIS ISSUE CORRECTED AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. *TR
STARTING THIS PAST WINTER, MY FORD FOCUS'S TRANSMISSION SHAKES, SHUDDERS, AND SLIPS, ETC CONSISTENTLY WHEN STARTING FROM A DEAD STOP. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE VEHICLE ACTUALLY WOULDN'T ACCELERATE. I'VE HAD IT IN TO FORD AND THEY MADE THE PROBLEM A LITTLE BETTER BUT THE VEHICLE STILL NOTICEABLY SHAKES WHEN ACCELERATING. IT CAN ALSO BE VERY HESITANT TO ACCELERATE WHEN AT HIGHER SPEEDS AS WELL. FORD HAS CHECKED THE ISSUE AGAIN AND SAYS THAT ITS "WITHIN TOLERANCE". I FIND IT ABSURD THAT THEY WOULD CONSIDER WHAT MY CAR DOES TO BE ACCEPTABLE. THIS IS BOTH ANNOYING AND A SAFETY CONCERN CONSIDERING THE ACCELERATION IS NOT ALWAYS THERE THE WAY IT SHOULD BE.

RADIO, DASH, A/C BLOWER, ETC). I LET IT SIT A DAY AND TRIED AGAIN THE FOLLOWING DAY AND IT STARTED RIGHT OFF THE BAT. I PUT IT IN GEAR AND IT WENT INTO GEAR THIS TIME. A COUPLE MINUTES LATER, AN INCLINE ASSIST WARNING CAME UP ON THE RADIO SCREEN AND THE TRACTION CONTROL AND ABS ALERTS WERE LIGHTED ON THE DASH. SUDDENLY, THE CAR WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR AGAIN. FORD HAS NO ANSWER FOR THIS PROBLEM. SOMEONE WILL BE KILLED IN THESE CARS BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM. PLEASE FORCE A RECALL OF THESE CARS NOW! I HAVE A 2012 FORD FOCUS. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WHEN IT DECIDED TO STOP ACCELERATING. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT DID NOT MOVE. I TURNED IT OFF AND ON AGAIN, WHICH GAVE ME ANOTHER SHOT AT GETTING OFF THE ROAD BEFORE IT SHUT DOWN AGAIN. IT WAS PRETTY UNNERVING NOT KNOWING IF I WAS GOING TO CAUSE A WRECK OR BE REAR ENDED.. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE HUNDREDS, IF NOT, THOUSANDS OF THE SAME COMPLAINT OUT THERE. SOMETHING HAS TO BE DONE BEFORE THERE IS A DEATH. *DT
WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER. WENT FROM 40MPH TO 0. WHEN ABLE TO DRIVE IT AGAIN IT WOULD NOT GO OVER 30 MPH. THE NEXT DAY IT DROVE WITH HESITATION AND JERKING. THEN APPEARED TO RUN SOMEWHAT NORMAL FOR A SHORT TIME (10 MINUTES) AFTER THAT STARTED TO JERK SO VIOLENTLY THAT IF A CAR WAS IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD HAVE HIT IT. AFTER READING UP ON THE FORD FOCUS, THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE CONSISTENT. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT. THIS VEHICLE POSES A DANGER TO NOT ONLY THE DRIVER AND PASSENGERS BUT TO ALL THE OTHER DRIVERS AND VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WITH IT. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT ON THE FREEWAY. *TR
UPON STARTING MY VEHICLE I HAD A STEERING ASSIST MALFUNCTION DISPLAYED ON THE DASHBOARD. WHILE DRIVING IT WAS AS IF I HAD NO POWER STEERING AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL ALL THE WAY RIGHT OR LEFT. I COMMUTED 45 MILES LIKE THIS AND UPON START UP THE NEXT MORNING THE ISSUE WAS GONE. INTERMITTENT ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MERGE LANES WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT DUE TO THE FAILURE, THERE WAS ALMOST A CRASH INVOLVED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
SEVERAL TIMES THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER HAS SNAPPED OFF, MOST OF THE TIME OCCURRING AT SPEEDS FROM 30 TO 65 MPH
WITH THE ENGINE STILL RUNNING, SUDDENLY NO POWER WAS DELIVERED TO THE WHEELS. I WAS ABLE TO ROLL TO A STOP AT THE CURB. I RETURNED 1-1/2 HOURS LATER AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR ABOUT 3 MILES BEFORE THE PROBLEM RECURRED. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A FORD DEALERSHIP. THE PROBLEM WAS A FAILED TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE, WHICH WAS REPLACED BY AN IDENTICAL UNIT. HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEED ON A FREEWAY, IT WOULD PROBABLY HAVE LED TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. IN FACT, I WOULD BE SURPRISED IF THERE HAVE NOT ALREADY BEEN A NUMBER OF SUCH ACCIDENTS. FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. IN AUGUST I RECEIVED A NOTICE STATING THAT "THE TCM MAY EXPERIENCE ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT FAILURES CAUSING INTERMITTENT SYMPTOMS OF LOSS OF TRANSMISSION ENGAGEMENT WHILE DRIVING, NO-START, OR A LACK OF POWER." IT GOES ON TO SAY THAT A SOFTWARE UPDATE IS AVAILABLE THAT WILL GIVE A VISUAL WARNING OF A POTENTIAL FAILURE. HOWEVER, THIS WILL NOT PREVENT A DRIVER FROM BEING STRANDED, NOR, IN MANY CASES, WILL IT PRECLUDE AN ACCIDENT FROM OCCURRING. I AM BUYING A NEW CAR AND TRADING IN MY FOCUS. I COULD GET MORE FOR IT BY SELLING IT TO A PRIVATE PARTY, BUT I AM UNWILLING TO HAVE ANY CONNECTION WITH THE UNWITTING PERSON WHO OWNS THE CAR NEXT. SINCE THE INCIDENT WITH MY 2012 FOCUS OCCURRED ABOUT THREE YEARS AFTER MY PURCHASE, IT IS REASONABLE TO THINK THAT SUCH INCIDENTS WILL OCCUR WITH INCREASING FREQUENCY. FORD NEEDS TO TREAT THE DESIGN OF A REPLACEMENT TCM AS AN URGENT MATTER, AND TO MAKE IT THE SUBJECT OF A RECALL.
I WAS DRIVING ON I271 WESTBOUND. FROM WHERE I GOT ON TO ENTERING THE EXPRESS LANE THE NOTIFICATION OF STEERING FAULT SERVICE NOW. I WAS ABLE TO GET TO WHERE I WAS GOING WHICH WAS UNDER TEN MINUTES AWAY AND ABLE TO PROPERLY STEER IT WITHOUT IT COMPLETELY LOSING THE STEERING. AT MY LOCATION IT WAS WHEN THE STEERING WENT. THE POWER STEERING RACK IS WHAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO TURN. THIS NEEDS TO BE RECALLED. IF I WOULD OF LOST IT ON THE HIGHWAY, THERE COULD OF BEEN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT AND OR DEATH. SOMETHING THAT HAS ONLY JUST OVER 38,000 MILES AND TWO YEARS OLD SHOULDNT HAVE TO BE REPLACED ON A CAR THAT IS ONLY JUST OVER TWO YEARS OLD. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED CONTINUOUSLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE STEERING WHEEL FAILED TO TURN AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I STARTED MY CAR ON 12/6/14 AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED AND WOULD NOT TURN. I SHUT THE CAR OFF AND TURNED IT ON AGAIN AND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS OPERATING. ON 12/8/14 I STARTED MY CAR AND ONCE AGAIN THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCKED AND MY DASHBOARD DISPLAYED A MESSAGE STATING STEERING ASSIST SERVICE OR SERVICE STEERING ASSIST. I CALLED FORD TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT AND I HAVE CHECKED ONLINE AND SEE THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS REGARDING POWER STEERING. *TR
AT FIRST I REPORTED ISSUES WITH DEALERSHIP REGARDING CAR MOVING BACKWARDS AT TIME WHEN I RELEASE BRAKES TO GO FORWARD AND MY CAR IS AUTOMATIC. ALSO INFORMED THEM AFTER A RED LIGHT I PRESS THE GAS BUT CAR WOULD NOT MOVE IMMEDIATELY THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL DUE TO DUAL TRANSMISSION. CAR WAS NOT PUT IN SERVICE. I HAD SAME INCIDENT AND A MONTH LATER I RECEIVED AN ALERT REGARDING A CLUTCH RECALL AND TOOK IT IN FOR SERVICE TODAY AND EXPLAINED TO THEM I HAD SAME ISSUE. CAR WAS NOT PUT IN SERVICE AND THEY SAID IT WAS NORMAL CAUSE CAR IS AUTOMATIC WITH A MANUAL TRANSMISSION AND THEY STATED TO ONLY BRING IT IN IF I HEAR METAL GRINDING. *JS
