LETTER REGARDING PROBLEMS WITH 2012 FORD FOCUS AND INSUFFICIENT CUSTOMER RESOLUTION OF THOSE PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE TRANSMISSION WAS SERVICED MULTIPLE TIMED, WITH ONLY SHORT TERM IMPROVEMENT. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, FORD DESIGNED THE TRANSMISSION TO PERFORM AS THE OLD STYLE CLUTCH TYPE TRANSMISSION. FORD WAS ABLE TO IMPROVE THE MPG BY DESIGNING THE TRANSMISSION IN THAT MANNER. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD SURGE AHEAD WITH THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE MOVING UPWARD WITH SUCH QUICKNESS, THAT HE QUICKLY HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. SECONDLY, WHEN GOING UP A HILL FROM A STOP OR LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE CHATTERED AND SURGED. *JB
ON OCTOBER 7TH, 2014 MY CAR (FORD FOCUS 2012) BEGAN EXPERIENCING SOME TRANSMISSION ISSUES. IT WOULD JERK EXTREMELY HARD WHEN THE GAS PEDAL WAS PUSHED. IT WOULD ONLY ACCELERATE A LITTLE BEFORE FINALLY JERKING INTO SECOND GEAR. THE CAR ACTED AS THOUGH IT DIDN'T WANT TO SHIFT GEARS. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT NEEDED A NEW CLUTCH PIECE AND RESEALED THE TRANSMISSION SEALS. AFTERWARDS, THE CAR WAS STILL DOING THE SAME AS BEFORE. I TOOK IT BACK IN JANUARY OF 2015 AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG AND THE CAR WAS PERFORMING TO THE SPECS. AFTER THAT, I CONTINUED EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS AND RETURNED WITH THE CAR AGAIN IN LATE MAY OF 2015. THIS TIME THEY SAID THE COMPUTER NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED AND SYNCED AND IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER I RECEIVED THE CAR BACK IT STILL MADE THE SAME PROBLEMS. ON AUGUST 19, 2015 I WAS AT A STOP SIGN AND PUSHED ON THE GAS WHEN THE CAR SHUTTERED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS GOING TO FALL OUT IT JERKED SO HARD. IT FINALLY ACCELERATED AND STARTED MOVING.
WAS PARKING CAR WHEN SUDDENLY IT LUNGED FORWARD AT A FAST SPEED, I LOST CONTROL AND HIT CAR IN FRONT OF ME PLUS 3 OTHER CARS THEN CRASHED INTO CEMENT WALL. I HIT MY HEAD AND LEFT SIDE OF BODY ON THE DOOR, I BRUISED MY RIB CAGE FRONT & BACK PLUS MY LEFT LEG VERY BRUISED. I WAS VERY LUCKY I DIDN'T GET KILLED. *TR
FOR SEVERAL MONTHS I NOTICED SIGNIFICANT SHUTTERING OF THE TRANSMISSION WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP INTO LOW GEARS. TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR, PER WARRANTY EXTENSION PROVIDED BY FORD (FIELD SERVICE ACTION NUMBER 14M01). SEVERAL DAYS AFTER THAT COMPLETED SERVICE, THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON -- AND WAS ON AND OFF OVER A PERIOD OF APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK. THE CAR ALSO PERIODICALLY JERKED FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY WHILE ACCELERATING IN LOW GEARS, AND THE SAME UNEXPECTED MOVEMENT HAPPENED OCCASIONALLY WHEN IN REVERSE. I MADE A FOLLOW UP SERVICE APPOINTMENT DURING THIS TIME. THEN TWO DAYS BEFORE THE SERVICE APPOINTMENT, AFTER FILLING THE CAR WITH GAS, THE ENGINE WOULD NOT START. WHEN TURNING THE KEY IN THE IGNITION, THE CAR SHUTTERED VIOLENTLY WITH A GREAT DEAL OF NOISE. AFTER CALLING A TOW TRUCK AND RESTING THE CAR FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE HOUR, THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER WAS ABLE TO GET THE ENGINE STARTED -- COMMENTING THAT FIRST AND REVERSE GEARS FELT UNSTABLE AND UNSAFE. CAR HAS SINCE BEEN TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A SECOND ROUND OF SERVICE. PROBLEM AND SOLUTION ARE YET TO BE DETERMINED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR OPENED INDEPENDENTLY AND FAILED TO SHUT PROPERLY. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PART NEEDED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
I PURCHASED MY FORD FOCUS 2012 FIVE MONTHS AGO AND IT HAS NOW HAD TO GO TO THE SHOP 4 TIMES. FIRST, THE CAR FELT LIKE IT WAS DRIVING OVER A RUMBLE STRIP AND WAS SLIPPING BETWEEN FIRST AND SECOND GEARS. SECOND, I WAS STOPPED AT A LIGHT AND THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE THEN BOLTED AHEAD AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THIRD, THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP HOME MODE AND LOST ALL POWER WHEN ACCELERATING. LASTLY, AND THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMELS BACK. I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND THE ENGINE REVVED AND THEN WOULD NOT MOVE. FINALLY THE CAR STARTED TO MOVE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I PULLED OVER TO RESTART THE CAR BUT THE LIGHT DID NOT GO AWAY. I DECIDED WITH EVERYTHING THAT HAS HAPPENED THE CAR WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE (AS I AM A SALES PERSON AND DRIVE ME CAR ALL DAY) SO I DECIDE TO HEAD HOME. UNFORTUNATELY, I HAD TO GET ON A HIGHWAY FOR ABOUT 2 MILES( THE BUSIEST HIGHWAY IN ALLENTOWN, PA) AS I GET ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE RIGHT LANE WITH MY HAZARDS ON THE CAR BEGIN TO LOSE ALL POWER AND THE GEAR LIGHT (DRIVE) STARTED TO BLINK, THE CAR THEN ACCELERATED AGAIN THEN LOST POWER AGAIN. BUT THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT START UP AGAIN, LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO CRUISE OFF ON TO A NARROW SHOULDER AND THEN MY CAR WOULD NOT MOVE OR TURN ON. THEREFORE, NEEDING A TOW. EVEN WITH ALL THE WORK THIS CAR HAS NOW HAD (WORKING ON THE SOFTWARE, REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH, REPLACING THE TCM, ETC I STILL DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR AND AM HORRIFIED THAT FORD WOULD PUT THIS CAR ON THE ROAD ENDANGERING PEOPLES LIVES. I PLAN ON TAKING THIS CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, JOHN KENNEDY FORD AND DEMANDING A REFUND OR A NEW CAR FROM A DIFFERENT DEALER. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A FORD AGAIN. *TR
FROM 2012 TO OCTOBER 2014, AT LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SHUTTER, SO MUCH SO THAT THE VEHICLE FELT AS IT WERE GOING TO STALL WHILE IN TRAFFIC. IN ADDITION TO THIS, WHILE ON A HILL THE VEHICLE WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS. I CALLED FORD SEVERAL TIMES TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT DURING THIS TIME PERIOD, HOWEVER WAS TOLD OVER THE PHONE " THAT'S JUST HOW THE TRANSMISSION WORKS" AND THEY COULDN'T DO ANYTHING TO CORRECT IT. AFTER BECOMING SO FRUSTRATED I BROUGHT THE CAR INTO FORD IN OCTOBER OF 2014, AND THEY REPLACED THE CLUTCH... THE SHUTTER PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED AFTER THE CLUTCH WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER NOW THE TRANSMISSION OVERHEATS AT RANDOM TIMES BOTH IN TRAFFIC AND ALSO ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE TRANSMISSION SHUTS OFF, AND THE VEHICLE BECOMES DISABLED WHEREVER I AM. THIS IS BEING BROUGHT INTO FORD THIS WEEK NOW AT 39000 MILES. THIS TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN PROBLEMATIC SINCE PURCHASED I UNDERSTAND THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS A HYBRID STANDARD/AUTOMATIC, AND THERE IS A DIFFERENT FEEL WHICH I AM OK WITH, HOWEVER THIS TRANSMISSION IS PUTTING ME IN AN UNSAFE POSITION THE WAY IT ROLLS BACK, AND FREQUENTLY STALLS AT BOTH HIGH AND LOW SPEEDS MAKING ME VULNERABLE TO AN ACCIDENT. *TR
SON WAS DRIVING HOME WHEN THE ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST FAILED, MAKING CAR VERY HARD TO CONTROL. *TR
POWER STEERING FAILURE LIGHT CAME ON AND POWER-STEERING IN VEHICLE STOPPED WORKING. ATTEMPTED TO CLEAR OUT BY SHUTTING OFF ENGINE AND TURNING CAR BACK ON, BUT IT DID NOT WORK. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED TO DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THERE IS A SENSOR FAILURE AND ENTIRE STEERING SYSTEM NEEDS REPLACED, COST APPROXIMATELY $2,000. MAY BE TWO WEEKS TO REPAIR, NO WORD ON WHEN PARTS WILL BE IN. *TR
THIS ISSUE STARTED TO HAPPEN PRETTY MUCH OUT OF NOWHERE. I WAS GOING FROM 2ND GEAR TO 3RD GEAR AND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT SEEMED MY CAR WAS GOING TO STALL. IT STARTED TO SHAKE AND STUDDED VIOLENTLY AND I QUICKLY STEPPED ON THE CLUTCH, TOOK IT OUT OF GEAR, AND PUT IT BACK INTO THIRD. THIS TIME IT WENT AND MOVED FINE BUT AS TIME PROGRESSED IT HAS GOTTEN WORSE. *TR
WHEN STARTING FROM A COMPLETE STOP, THE CAR JERKS, SHUTTERS AND THE GEARS GRIND & DESPITE HAVING THIS VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE OVER 12 DOCUMENTED TIMES, NOTHING HAS EVER BEEN DONE. JUST AS RECENTLY AS 8/4/15 THE TRANSMISSION WAS SERVICED AGAIN, REPLACING THE CLUTCH, AND IT DROVE GREAT FOR JUST UNDER 5 DAYS AND THEN I SIMPLY STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN AND WHEN I WENT TO PULL OUT THE VEHICLE JERKED AND BUCKED, NEARLY STRIKING ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THEN FOR THE 50 MILE DRIVE HOME, THE VEHICLE WOULD GRIND THROUGH THE LOWER GEARS, MAKING DRIVING VERY DIFFICULT. THE VEHICLE IS NOW BACK AT THE DEALERSHIP WITH NO RESOLUTION IN SIGHT, FORD SHOULD JUST RECALL THIS VEHICLE BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY INJURED AND WHY ARE WE ALL TO SUFFER BECAUSE FORD IS NO LONGER THE COMPANY THEY USED TO BE, I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER FORD VEHICLE AND I AM TRYING TO GET OUT FROM UNDER THIS VEHICLE, BUT WILL DO SO AT A LOSS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND ALL THE GEARS FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
I WAS DRIVING AND THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO BE HARD TO TURN. A LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR SAID STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER AND RESTART IT AND IT WORKED UNTIL TODAY 10/11/14. TODAY I WAS IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND SAID THE SAME MESSAGE. I TRIED RESTARTING IT FOUR TIMES AND NOTHING HAPPENED SO IT WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
RANDOMLY SINCE WE BOUGHT THE CAR IS 2014 POWER ASSIST DEFAULT WOULD SHOW UP ON THE SCREEN AND THEN I WOULD BE LEFT WITHOUT POWER STEERING. I LEARNED TO PULL OVER TURN THE CAR OFF AND IT WOULD WORK NORMAL AGAIN. SEVERAL TIMES IT HAPPENED IN BAD PLACES THAT ALMOST CAUSED ME TO WRECK. I HAVE 3 SMALL CHILDREN AND WAS ALWAYS WORRIED ABOUT IT HAPPENING. I HAVE RAN INTO A DITCH BECAUSE OF IT BUT WASN'T HURT. IT WILL HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED AND DOWN ANY ROAD. ON JULY 17, 2018 IT DID IT BUT NOW IT WONT TURN FIX IT WHEN I TURN THE CAR OFF. SO I'M GUESSING IT HAS COMPLETELY WENT OUT. I HAVE CALLED FORD AND TOLD THEM ABOUT IT. THEY SAID ABOUT 1 YEAR AGO THERE WERE NO RECALLS. I TOLD THEM I HAVE READ A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SAME CAR. I CALLED TODAY TO THE DEALERSHIP I BOUGHT IT FROM AND HE SAID TO BRING IT IN. 109.00 JUST TO CHECK AND SEE IF IT NEEDS A COMPUTER RESET WHICH HE SAID WAS PROBABLY THE PROBLEM. I DOUBT IT I ASKED HOW MUCH THAT WOULD BE AND HE SAID WE WOULD TALK WHEN I GOT THERE. I HAVE NOT WENT BC ITS GONNA BE HARD TO DRIVE AND I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO GET IT FIXED. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. THEY HAVE RECALLED MANY OTHERS FOR THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WHY ARE THEY LEAVING THE FOCUS OWNERS WITH A DANGEROUS CAR? WE HAVE ALWAYS BOUGHT FORDS. BUT I PROMISE THIS IS THE LAST ONE WE EVER GET. IF THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT FAMILIES SAFETY THEY WILL GET NO MORE MONEY FROM US

ALSO, WHEN THE AIR CONDITIONER WAS ACTIVATED, AN UNUSUAL YELLOW SUBSTANCE CAME OUT OF THE VENT. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD WIPER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
EXCESSIVE SHUDDERING ON ACCELERATION FROM A STOP. TE ENGINE WILL NOT START SOMETIMES. THE TRANSMISSION FAILURE LIGHT COMES ON.
THE REFLECTIVE CAP THAT SAYS "FORD" INSIDE THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY FELL DOWN, DISALLOWING THE HEADLAMP BEAM TO BE DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE CAR CAUSING VISIBILITY PROBLEMS.
THE VICTIM OF THE FATALITY WAS DRIVING NORTHWEST ON RTE 84 AT 1:58 PM ON 9/26/14 WHEN SHE HIT THE MEDIUM STRIP AT THE CORNER OF DODGE RD IN HAMPTON FALLS, N.H.. THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE HAD A BLOW OUT AND SHE THEN HAD A ROLL OVER ACCIDENT. SHE WENT THROUGH THE GUARD RAIL AND INTO A DEEP DITCH. THE EYE WITNESS CALLED 911 AND ASSISTED THE DRIVER WHO HAD NO SIGNS OF LIFE AT THE SCENE. WHEN THE VOLUNTEER HAMPTON FALLS SQUAD ARRIVED AT THE SCENE, THE ACLS UNIT WAS CALLED OFF. THIS IS CURRENTLY UNDER INVESTIGATION BY THE NEW HAMPSHIRE STATE POLICE. UPDATED 10/28/14 *BF.....UPDATED 12/29/15 *BF *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE LOSES POWER. THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, BUT THERE IS NO POWER TO THE DRIVETRAIN. THERE IS NO REVVING ? JUST A LOSS OF POWER. THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENED, IT WAS ALONG A BACK ROAD. THERE WAS NO WARNING, THE CAR JUST STARTED SLOWING DOWN. MY DAUGHTER BRAKED AND CAME TO A STOP ? THANKFULLY AS THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC. SHE PUT THE CAR IN PARK, THEN BACK INTO DRIVE. THE CAR WENT INTO REVERSE. SHE PUT IT BACK IN PARK THEN TRIED DRIVE AGAIN AND THIS TIME IT DID GO BACK INTO DRIVE. SHE WAS THEN ABLE TO MOVE FORWARD UNDER POWER. THE VEHICLE WORKED FINE FOR THE NEXT WEEK. THE SECOND TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN THE EVENING. AGAIN, THE CAR JUST STARTED TO LOSE POWER. IT WOULD NOT GO OVER 45 MPH AND SHE HAD TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SHE STOPPED AND A FRIEND?S DAD CAME TO HELP. HE GOT IT MOVING FORWARD FOR ABOUT 1.5 MILES; THEN THE ?CHECK ENGINE? LIGHT CAME ON AND THE D ON THE DASHBOARD FLASHED RED. THEN THE CAR STOPPED COMPLETELY. HE PUT IT IN PARK AND TURNED THE VEHICLE OFF. HE WAITED A FEW SECONDS AND TRIED TO TURN THE CAR ON. IT WOULD NOT TURN OVER, THERE WAS NOTHING. SINCE THIS WAS AT NIGHT, WE HAD TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE WHERE IT WAS. THE NEXT MORNING, WHILE WAITING FOR THE TOW TRUCK, I DECIDED TO TRY AND START IT. IT DID START. THE "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT WAS OFF AND THERE WAS NO OTHER WARNINGS FLASHING. IT WAS LIKE IT CLEARED ITSELF. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE CAR MOVED FORWARD AS IF NOTHING WAS WRONG. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP IN CASE THIS PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE OTHER TRANSMISSION ISSUES. I EXPLAINED WHAT HAPPENED AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD TRY TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICIAN SINCE THE ?CHECK ENGINE? LIGHT WAS NO LONGER LIT, AND ALTHOUGH THEY PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER, THE CODES THAT WERE THERE LED THEM NOWHERE. THEY CLEARED THE CODES AND TRIED FOR ANOTHER DAY TO NO AVAIL. *TR
THE CAR WAS DRIVING FINE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE POWER TRAIN QUIT WORKING DESPITE THE FACT THAT THE ENGINE WAS OPERATING CORRECTLY. BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF POWER, I WAS ENDANGER OF GETTING HIT BY OTHER CARS. THE SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER IS A HAZARD. THE MANUFACTURER SAID THE RESULTING LOSS OF POWER TRAIN WAS DUE TO A TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE. THIS PARTICULAR MODEL HAS BEEN PLAGUED BY TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS THROUGHOUT ITS LIFE. MINE BEGAN WHILE IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND CONTINUES TODAY. I AM GOING TO ABANDON THE CAR BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE AT THIS POINT FOR ME OR ANYONE ELSE. *TR
POWER STEERING SPORADICALLY COMES IN AND OUT---USUALLY WHEN THE CAR IS JUST STARTED AND WE ATTEMPT TO BACK OUT---THE STEERING HAS NO POWER. *TR IF THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AT A HIGHER SPEED----THIS COULD BE BAD.
PURCHASED CAR MARCH 29TH 2014 WITH 12K MILES. SHORTLY AFTER CAR WOULD SHUTTER CONSISTENTLY UPON ACCELERATION AND NOT EXCEL IN A TIMELY MANNER.ON SEPT 25TH WAS DRIVING AND THE CAR AND IT DID NOT WANT TO MOVE FROM A STOP. RPM WOULD WOULD JUST GO TO 4 OR 5 AND EVENTUALLY ENGAGE. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT A MILE HOME AND PARK IT. TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALER A FEW DAYS LATER WHEN THEY COULD GET IT IN. THEY REPLACED THE BODY CONTROL MODULE $744.68. DROVE IT HOME AND THE NEXT DAY IT WAS WORSE. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK AND THEY TOLD ME SINCE IT WAS A TRANSMISSION ISSUE THEY COULD NOT GET IT IN FOR THREE WEEKS. I DROVE IT LIKE THIS FOR MONTHS. MARCH 2015 I TOOK IT TO A DIFFERENT FORD DEALERSHIP AND THE DIAGNOSIS CODE P0902 CAME UP. THEY REPLACED THE CLUTCH ACTUATOR AND UPDATED MY SYNC. $452.65. THEY STATED THE CODE WAS AN SOFTWARE ISSUE. AFTER THAT IT WAS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. DROVE IT HOME AND THE NEXT DAY NOTHING HAD CHANGED. AND AT THIS POINT I ASKED WHAT IF THIS DON'T WORK IS THERE ANY GUARANTEE? THEY SAID NO. WITH IT BEING AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM THEY COULD BE ANYTHING. BEFORE I BROUGHT IT BACK THE 2ND TIME THEY MADE SURE THAT THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON SO THAT THEY COULD PUT IT ON THE COMPUTER AND DRIVE IT.I LOVE MY CAR AND JUST WANT IT FIXED. MY CAR NOW HAS 57K MILES AND I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT NOT KNOWING IF I AM EVER GOING TO BE ABLE TO MAKE IT TO MY DESTINATION. I CAN DRIVE IT FOR 1K MILES WITH NO ISSUES OR FOR THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT BARELY WANTING TO MOVE. I HAVE READ A LOT ON THE FORUM WEBSITE AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS. WHY? 1.POWER STEERING GOES OUT AT ANY GIVEN TIME, WHETHER ITS INITIAL CRANK OR DRIVING AT ANY SPEEDS. IT APPEARS TO OCCUR MORE SO IN THE WARMER MONTHS OF THE YEAR. 2. TRANSMISSION SLIPS, CHATTERS, ROLLBACKS WHILE IN GEAR, HESITATION, DELAYED RESPONSE. I HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES, THEY SAID THEY CANT GET THE POWER STEERING TO RE-OCCUR SO THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH CAR! THEY SAID THE TRANSMISSION ACTS WITHIN THEIR SPECS, AS THIS IS DOES COME AND GO BUT APPEARS 90-95% OF THE TIME. HOWEVER I DID RECEIVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY OUT OF NO WHERE FOR THE TRANSMISSION IN WHICH I HEARD THEY DO NOTHING BUT CLEAN OIL OFF THE CLUTCH PLATE WHICH WILL RESOLVE NOTHING. MY WIFE IS 100LBS SOAKING WET AND CANNOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE IN TURNS WHEN THE STEERING GOES OUT. SHE HAS ALREADY BLOWN OUT A TIRE ON A CURB DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO CORRECT THE PATH OF THE VEHICLE IN A TURN. *TR
I PURCHASED A USED 2012 FOCUS RECENTLY AND A FEW DAYS LATER ON 9/22/14 I WAS DRIVING AROUND 50 MPH WHEN THE RPMS JUST SHOT UP. I LET OFF THE GAS AND PRESSED DOWN ON IT AGAIN AND THE ENGINE REVVED UP BUT AGAIN THE CAR DID NOT RESPOND. I PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND TRIED TO CHANGE THE GEAR TO NEUTRAL, THEN REVERSE, THEN BACK TO DRIVE AND EACH GEAR DID NOT RESPOND TO THE GAS. AFTER SHUTTING THE CAR OFF I TRIED TO START IT UP AGAIN AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT AND THE MESSAGE "HILL START ASSIST NOT AVAILABLE" CAME ON. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A FEW MINUTES IT STARTED UP AND DROVE FINE FOR THE REST OF THE DAY. TWO DAYS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY AND I HAD TO CROSS THREE LANES OF HIGHWAY TRAFFIC WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE. AFTER LETTING THE CAR SIT FOR A MINUTE THE CAR STARTED BACK UP AND DROVE FOR ABOUT A MINUTE AND THEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ALSO CAME ON THIS TIME AND STAYED ON. I MANAGED TO GET TO SCHOOL ALTHOUGH A LITTLE LATE. ON MY WAY HOME THE ISSUE OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS JERKING FORWARD AND LOOSING THE GEAR AND THEN JERKING FORWARD AGAIN. THE ISSUE OCCURRED A FEW MILES FROM MY HOUSE AND THIS TIME THE CAR WOULD NOT START UP ON MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS LIKE IT HAD PREVIOUSLY. I DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY THINKING THAT WOULD HELP RESET WHATEVER WAS STUCK BUT WHEN THE BATTERY WAS CONNECTED BACK UP THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT START. AFTER LOOKING OVER FUSES AND DISCONNECTING AND RECONNECTING THE BATTERY MULTIPLE TIMES THE CAR FINALLY STARTED BACK UP AND I WAS ABLE TO MAKE THE LAST FEW MILES TO MY HOME. THE CAR IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND I WAS ALMOST REAR ENDED ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I HAD TO PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN. I AM ON MY (3)THIRD CLUTCH SYSTEM TO STOP THE SHUTTER AND LOUD NOISES IT MAKES. THE LAST CLUTCH WAS INSTALLED ON SEPT 23, 14. AND AFTER A WEEK ITS BACK TO ITS SAME JERKING/SHUTTERS AND THE NOISE IS LOUD WHEN YOU MAKE TURNS. ITS REALLY NICE WHEN I TRY TO GET A BUYER TO TEST DRIVE IT. I WAS BLOCKING TRAFFIC IN THE ONLY LANE OPEN TO ALLOW CARS TO PROCEED STRAIGHT. THE RIGHT LANE WAS CLOSED DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION AND I WAS BLOCKING THAT ROAD CREW. SEVERAL TIMES I NEARED RECEIVING A REAR END COLLISION. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP TELLS ME THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTIONS AND NEEDS REPLACED AT A COST OF $1300.00. WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE? USING HUSBANDS BIG TRUCK TO GO PLACES WHICH IS VERY HARD FOR ME TO DO. WE HAVE BEEN DOING BUSINESS WITH GC SINCE 1984 AND EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN RESPONSE. THIS CAR SHOULD NOT BE ON THE ROAD. IN THE EVENT I HAVE A MORE SERIOUS ACCIDENT, PLEASE LOOK INTO WHY FORD WOULD NOT RECALL THIS VEHICLE. I OWN A 2012 FORD FOCUS SE. I BOUGHT MY FORD FOCUS IN DECEMBER 2012 FROM FOLSOM LAKE FORD LOCATED IN FOLSOM CALIFORNIA. AT 20000 MILES I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR ITS FACTORY SERVICE AND ADVISED THE TRANSMISSION WAS NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY. ACCORDING TO FOLSOM LAKE FORD THEIR SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPROGRAMMED THE TRANSMISSION COMPUTER AND ORDERED PARTS FOR THE TRANSMISSION'PARTS THAT WOULD TAKE A MONTH TO ARRIVE, BUT NEVER HEARD BACK FROM FOLSOM LAKE FORD AFTER THAT. ABOUT 35000MLS STARTED MAJOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES WITH MY FOCUS-IT WOULD NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT NEVER CAME ON, NOR WERE THERE ANY OTHER DIAGNOSTIC/MALFUNCTION ADVISEMENTS FROM THE VEHICLES INFORMATION SYSTEM. OTHER SYSTEMS BEGAN TO MALFUNCTION 'SPECIFICALLY ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS, IDLE CONTROL MALFUNCTIONED-. IDLE ROUGH, SOMETIMES IDLING WILD AND EXTREME FLUCTUATIONS.MY FOCUS WOULD STALL CONSTANTLY WHILE STOPPED AT INTERSECTIONS, ALSO RANDOMLY STALLING WHILE AT DRIVING SPEEDS. MULTIPLE TIMES MY FOCUS STALLED ON THE FREEWAY, WHILE DRIVING AT NORMAL FREEWAY SPEEDS 55-70MPH. AFTER MY FOCUS HAD A STALLING INCIDENT IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL AS IF IT WAS DUE TO A POWER DRAINAGE. IF IT DID NOT IMMEDIATELY FIRE-UP, THE STARTER WOULD CONTINUE TO OPERATE WHETHER I TRIED TO DISCONTINUE OR NOT. WHEN THE VEHICLE DID FINALLY START, THE TRANSMISSION ALWAYS OPERATED UNUSUALLY AFTER THAT 'SHIFTING INCORRECTLY, NOT SMOOTHLY SHIFTING INTO GEAR, SOMETIMES NOT SHIFTING INTO THE PROPER GEAR OR NOT SHIFTING AT ALL. AT ABOUT 42000MLS SERVICE PERFORMED ON MY FOCUS THE BATTERY CHECKED AND IN GOOD WORKING ORDER. BY 43000MLS AFTER MAJOR TRANSMISSION ISSUES MY BATTERY WAS CORRODED/RUINED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND FAILED TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE BLOCK FRACTURED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTROL MODULE AND THE ENGINE BLOCK NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THIS IS NOT THE ONLY ISSUE, BUT THIS HAS BEEN THE MOST DANGEROUS FOR ME... FOR THE PAST YEAR, THE CAR HAS LOST TRANSMISSION POWER WHILE DRIVING - I WAS ON HWY 40 AND THE CAR JUST STOPPED WORKING - TWICE I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION AND THE CAR CUT OFF - I WAS AT A NEAR STOP AND THE CAR STOPPED RESPONDING....THIS HAS BEEN REPORTED NUMEROUS TIMES BY OTHERS. THE GAS PEDAL JUST STOPS RESPONDING AT ALL. THE TIME IT STOPPED WORKING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION, THE GEARS WOULD NOT ALLOW ME TO MOVE THE CAR INTO A PARK POSITION, IT WOULD NOT MOVE AT ALL. IT ALLOWED ME TO TURN MY CAR OFF, IN DRIVE. AFTER SITTING THERE FOR A BIT AND MULTIPLE RESTARTS, THE CAR ENGAGED AGAIN. FORD'S FIX? THEY CAME OUT WITH A SOFTWARE UPDATE THAT MAY TURN ON MY ENGINE LIGHT BEFORE A FAILURE. THIS IS NOT A FIX. I ASKED THEM IF SOMEONE NEEDED TO DIE IN THEIR CAR OR GET CRUSHED IN AN INTERSECTION FOR THEM TO DO SOMETHING. I FILED A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH FORD. SO FRUSTRATED AND ANGRY.

ENGINE MALFUNCTION MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE MESSAGE CENTER. THE ENGINE THEN SHUTOFF, LOSING POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. I COASTED TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESTART AND HAD TO BE TOWED. THIS WAS THE SECOND INCIDENT WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. FIRST INCIDENT WAS EIGHT DAYS PRIOR. DEALER STATED IT WAS FIXED, BUT EVIDENTLY NOT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN AN ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE DASH COMPUTER INDICATING THAT THERE WAS AN ISSUE WITH THE POWER STEERING. I WAS IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN ONTO ANOTHER STREET WHEN THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THIS WAS NOT THE FIRST TIME THAT THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE AT LEAST 5 TIMES. ON THE MOST RECENT OCCASION NOTED HERE, THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE (PSCM) HAD JUST BEEN REPLACED AT MY LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP 4 OR 5 DAYS PREVIOUS. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT BOTH THE ORIGINAL PSCM AND THE REPLACEMENT PSCM WERE PART OF THE SAME BATCH THAT WERE APPARENTLY DEFECTIVE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY HAVING YET ANOTHER PSCM INSTALLED BY THE DEALERSHIP. IF FORD IS AWARE OF A DEFECTIVE BATCH OF PSCMS, A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. I AM ALSO CONCERNED THAT THE FIRST OUTAGE OF THE ORIGINAL PSCM TOOK ROUGHLY 2 YEARS TO MANIFEST, WHILE THE SECOND PSCM WENT OUT IN LESS THAN A WEEK. I AM NOT SURE IF THAT INDICATES A BROADER ELECTRICAL PROBLEM WITH THE CAR, OR WAS SIMPLY A COINCIDENCE THAT THE SECOND PSCM WENT OUT THAT SOON AFTER REPLACEMENT. *TR
DRIVING ON FREEWAY, FRIDAY LIGHT TRAFFIC. ACCELERATING AND CANNOT GO PAST 1000RPM. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. COULD NOT GO ANY FASTER. LUCKY NO ONE REAR-ENDED ME ON THE FWY. (PREVIOUS TO THIS INCIDENT, CAR ROUTINELY (MANY TIMES A DAY) SHUDDERS UPON ACCELERATION (CAR SHAKES) AND SEEMS TO HAVE TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS). TOOK TO DEALER WHO SAID THEY HAD TO RESET THE COMPUTER, KEPT CAR OVER LABOR DAY WEEKEND AND SUPPOSEDLY ALL FIXED. PICKED CAR UP 9/3/14 AND SAME THING HAPPENED WHILE STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT AT NIGHT ON WAY HOME FROM WORK. COULD NOT ACCELERATE PAST 1000RPM. PULLED OVER, CALLED AAA AND TOWED TO DEALER. AFTER 2 DAYS, DEALER SAID THE MODULAR/COMPONENT IN THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. DEALER KEPT CAR FOR ANOTHER 5 DAYS TO DRIVE AROUND AND SEE IF THIS RESOLVED THE PROBLEM. I PICKED UP THE CAR 9/11/14. CAR STILL HAS TROUBLE 'SHIFTING' FROM 1000 TO 2000 RPM AND STILL SHUDDERS BUT HAS NOT TOTALLY STOPPED ACCELERATING, I AM IN FEAR EVERYDAY SINCE I DRIVE OVER 100 MILES PER DAY TO/FROM WORK IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. *TR
