THIS CAR HAS BEEN A LEMON. FORD HAS ATTEMPTED TO "FIX" THE REPEATED ISSUE I AM HAVING WITH THIS CAR STALLING OUT UNEXPECTEDLY DUE TO TRANSMISSION FAILURE. FORD REPLACED THE TCM BUT THE CAR STILL IS UNRELIABLE. THE SERVICE ADVISOR AT THE O'MEARA FORD IN COLORADO TOLD ME THAT THIS CAR IS A LEMON AND THAT HE HAS NOT SEEN A PRODUCT FROM FORD THIS BAD IN MANY YEARS. HE ALSO SAID THAT HE HAS ADVISED HIS FAMILY TO NOT RIDE OR DRIVE ONE OF THESE CARS AS THEY ARE UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS! THIS CAR HAS STALLED OUT WHILE I AM TRYING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY, AND IN MANY SITUATIONS THAT HAVE COMPROMISED MY SAFETY AND THE SAFETY OF MY FELLOW MOTORISTS. I FEEL THAT FORD NEEDS TO BUY THIS CAR BACK AND REPLACE IT AS IT IS CLEAR THAT THIS CAR CAN NOT BE FIXED IN ANY LASTING WAY. I ASK NHTSA TO PLEASE STEP IN AND INVESTIGATE THESE DANGEROUS CARS BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED! I ABSOLUTELY HATE MY FORD AND WILL NOT BY ANOTHER.
POWER STEERING: SOMETIMES WHEN I START MY CAR AN ERROR MESSAGE WILL SAY "POWER STEERING FAILURE", AND THE POWER STEERING WILL NOT WORK. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF, AND THEN RESTART IT WITHIN A FEW MINUTES IT GOES AWAY. IT STARTED DOING THIS WITHIN A MONTH OF WHEN WE BOUGHT IT, AND BECAUSE THE ERROR ISN'T PRESENT WHEN WE TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TELL ME THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING. I HAVE COMPLAINED MULTIPLE TIMES TO THEM, AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING. IT HAS BEEN DOING THIS RANDOMLY FOR YEARS NOW, AND AFTER BRINGING IN MY CAR TO HAVE THE CLUTCH LOOKED AT AGAIN (I'VE HAD IT REPLACED 5 TIMES NOW) IT HAD THE POWER STEERING ERROR MESSAGE SHOW UP AND THE TECHS WERE ABLE TO SEE THAT THE CAR HAD NO POWER STEERING ALONG WITH THE MESSAGE. THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN, AND EVEN THOUGH IT HAS DONE THIS FROM THE START I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH, THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWERVE INDEPENDENTLY BEFORE STALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED BUT WOULD ONLY ACCELERATE AT VERY LOW SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
THE MATERIAL ON THE STEERING WHEEL IS FLAKING OFF. *TR
THE CAR WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT LOW SPEED, IN HEAVY TRAFFIC WILL SHIFT INTO A LOWER GEAR ALLOWING THE MOTOR TO REV SLIGHTLY, THEN AS IT ENGAGES THE LOWER GEAR THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE ABRUPTLY. THIS HAPPENS WHEN YOU ARE TRYING TO MOVE YOUR FOOT FROM THE GAS TO THE BRAKE. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN ABOUT A 20 MIN. SPAN. THIS HAS ALSO HAPPENED WHILE I WAS TRYING TO PARK, CAUSING THE CAR TO CLIMB ONTO A RAILROAD TIE BEING USED AS A STOP AT THE END OF THE PARKING SPOT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING APPROX 30 MILES PER HOUR ON A B ROAD, JUST AFTER TURNING RIGHT THE CAR DISPLAYED A "STOP SAFELY NOW" WARNING AND THE CAR LOST ALL POWER TO THE DRIVE TRAIN AND THE CAR LITERALLY STOPPED MOVING. LUCKILY, THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND ME WHEN THE FAULT OCCURRED. I POWER CYCLED THE CAR AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE AWAY AFTER A FEW MINUTES. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE CAR UNTIL LAST NIGHT.
CAR STOPS DEAD AND THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" LIGHT COMES ON. *TR
SHUTTERS/ GRINDING NOISE/ TUGS AND JOLTS AT LOW SPEEDS AND UP HILLS. WHEN IN BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC MESSAGE ON DASH, OVERHEATING TRANSMISSION PULL OVER WAIT 8 MINUTES. *TR
I DROVE APPROXIMATELY 1/8 OF MILE THIS MORNING AND I STOPPED AT A BLINKER LIGHT. WHEN I PROCEEDED TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN, THE VEHICLE LUNGED, CLUNKED AND THE GEARS DISENGAGED. NONE OF THE GEARS WORKED. I COULD NOT MOVE FORWARD, BACKWARD OR EVEN PUT THE VEHICLE INTO "PARK" BECAUSE IT WOULD ROLL BACKWARD DOWN A SLIGHT INCLINE. I HAD TO ENGAGE THE PARKING BRAKE IN ORDER TO KEEP THE VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS DOWN THE HILL. THERE WAS NOT A WARNING LIGHT, ENGINE MESSAGE OR ANYTHING. THE VEHICLE QUIT WORKING AND WOULD NOT MOVE IN ANY OF THE GEARS. I HAD TO COAST THE VEHICLE BACKWARD TO A SAFE LOCATION, OUT OF TRAFFIC. AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR AND WAITING AND RESTARTING THE PROBLEM HAS PERSISTED. IT WAS TOWED AND IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING REPAIR. I HAVE ALSO EXPERIENCED THE "DRIFT BACK" THAT OTHER CONSUMERS HAVE EXPERIENCED AND I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT THIS IS STILL A RELATIVELY NEW CAR THAT SHOULD NOT BE EXPERIENCING THESE TYPES OF PROBLEMS. *TR
CHROME PLATING IS PEELING AWAY FROM STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG EDGES. EDGES ARE SHARP AND CAN CUT THROUGH SKIN. COULD BE POSSIBLE TO PUNCTURE AIRBAG? *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT ABOUT 35 MPH, A WARNING APPEARED IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER "STOP SAFELY NOW'. I STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. I TURNED THE VEHICLE ON AND OFF A NUMBER OF TIMES AND THE WARNING REMAINED; THE CAR WAS NOT DRIVABLE. AFTER ABOUT 5 MINUTES AFTER CYCLING THE ON/OFF FUNCTION THE WARNING LIGHT DISAPPEARED AND THE VEHICLE SEEMED TO BE BACK TO NORMAL. THIS IS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME ON DEC 15, 2014 WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD 11000 MILES. IT WAS A REPEAT OF THE PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE. *TR
IN SEPTEMBER OF 2013, I PURCHASED A USED FORD FOCUS FOR MY TEENAGE SON. SOON AFTER PURCHASING, WE REALIZED THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO BE HAVING PROBLEMS. IT WAS STILL UNDER FACTORY WARRANTY, SO WE TOOK IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT CHECKED OUT AND REPAIRED. WE WERE TOLD THAT THE COMPUTER PROGRAMMING NEEDED TO BE RESET, WHICH THEY DID, AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE DRIVING IT ABOUT 1000 MILES FOR THE CAR TO "LEARN" THE NEW SETTING, AND THEN THE PROBLEM WOULD BE FIXED. THE PROBLEM, BY THE WAY, IS THE CAR FEELS LIKE IT WILL STALL OUT WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE, PARTICULARLY DURING INITIAL ACCELERATION SUCH AS AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP. THIS COULD PUT MY SON IN DANGER IF HE'S IN A SITUATION WHERE HE NEEDS IMMEDIATE ACCELERATION (SUCH AS TO PASS) AND THE TRANSMISSION DOESN'T PERFORM. FORD KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, AND HAS EVEN SENT OUT A NOTICE THAT THEY'VE EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON THE TRANSMISSION. YET THEY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM. WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE TO GET THEM TO FIX THESE TRANSMISSIONS? *TR
THE FORD FOCUS 2012 IS A TRUE LEMON! IT RUNS ROUGH JERKING MOVEMENTS ESP IN LOW GEAR. IT HAS LACK OF ACCELERATION. I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW AND HAVE HAD IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOUR TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD ITS ALL NORMAL FOR THE 2012. HOWEVER I FEEL ITS NOT NORMAL! MY LAST VISIT I WAS HANDED A SHEET FILLED WITH '' NORMAL'' THINGS TO EXPECT! THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO ALLOW ME TO TRADE IT BACK IN. I WROTE TO THE FORD MOTOR CO AND I ONLY GOT A VERY NICE LADY WHO JUST KEPT SAYING OH I AM SO SORRY. THEY ALONG WITH THE WILLIS FORD DEALER IN SMYRNA DE ACTED LIKE IT WAS JUST ME WITH THIS COMPLAINT. AFTER VIEWING THE PAGES AND PAGES OF COMPLAINTS MOST LIKE MYSELF I CAN SEE I AM FAR FROM ALONG. WHAT CAN BE DONE ? SO FAR I SEE NOTHING BEING DONE ABOUT THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE COASTING DOWNHILL AT 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE DOWN SHIFTED AND WAS CLOSE TO STALLING. THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL TO PREVENT THE STALLING BUT THE VEHICLE THEN ACCELERATED INDEPENDENTLY AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000. *UPDATED 09-18-13 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS DECLARED TOTALED.
STARTED UP CAR AND PUT TRANSMISSION INTO REVERSE. STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT. I WAS ABLE TO PULL BACK INTO DRIVEWAY. ERROR MESSAGE INDICATED STEERING ASSIST FAILURE AND THAT SERVICE WAS REQUIRED. I SHUT OFF THE CAR, RESTARTED IT, AND THE STEERING SEEMED BACK TO NORMAL.
THE FOCUS HAS A MANUFACTURERS PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION CLUTCH. IT OFTEN BREAKS AND OFTEN LEAVES ME STRANDED. IT WILL STOP ACCELERATING OR GET STUCK WHEN ACCELERATING ON THE HIGHWAY AND I'VE ALMOST HAD A FEW ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF IT. I HAVE ALSO BEEN STRANDED ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD BECAUSE OF IT LATE AT NIGHT. FORD HAS FIXED IT FOUR TIMES NOW WITH NO RESOLUTION. THEY SAY ITS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT THEY CAN PATCH BUT NOT EXACTLY FIX.
TRANSMISSION SHUTTERS, JERKS, ROLLS BACK IN PARK, SOMETIMES YOU DON'T KNOW IF IT GOING TO WORK OR JUST LEAVE YOU SITTING. A PIECE OF JUNK!!! DEALER WORKS ON IT AND IT SEEMS TO GET WORSE!! THEY SAY ITS PART OF THE DESIGN. I BET NO FORD EMPLOYEES DRIVE ONE!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE OR DECELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP, THE VEHICLE SPUTTERED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION AND THE COMPUTER CHIP FOR THE TRANSMISSION FAILED. THE COMPUTER CHIP NEEDED TO BE REPROGRAMMED AND THE CLUTCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED A TOTAL OF THREE TIMES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,312.
AS I WAS DRIVING ALL OF A SUDDEN A DISPLAY STATING "STOP SAFELY NOW" CAME ON. I PULLED OVER AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO ANY FURTHER. I HAD TO COMPLETELY TURN IT OFF, OPEN AND CLOSE THE DOOR, AND RESTART IT TO MAKE IT GO AGAIN. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES NOW IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS. *TR
CHROME STEERING WHEEL TRIM BEGAN TO PEEL OFF. CUT MY FINGER A FEW DIFFERENT TIMES TO WHERE I WAS BLEEDING. *TR
THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTING IS HORRIBLE WITH EXCESSIVE SHUDDERING AND LURCHING. *TR
THE VEHICLE SHAKES AND SHUDDERS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS SLIPPING AND THE CLUTCH IS CONSTANTLY ENGAGING/DISENGAGING. THIS SEEMS TO BE AT ITS WORST AFTER THE VEHICLE IS HOT FROM TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. IN ADDITION TO THE SHAKE AND SHUDDERING, THERE IS AT TIMES A LACK OF POWER WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR WILL INCREASE ENGINE RPM, BUT THE CAR IS SLUGGISH TO TAKE OFF. WHEN PULLING INTO TRAFFIC, THIS CAN BE A BIT FRIGHTENING BECAUSE THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE AS QUICKLY AS YOU ANTICIPATE. IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION IS IN TOO HIGH OF A GEAR WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP. YOU CAN HEAR THE PULL ON THE ENGINE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. THESE TWO ISSUES HAVE NEVER OCCURRED SIMULTANEOUSLY. EITHER THE VEHICLE SHAKES AND SHUDDERS WHEN TAKING OFF FROM A STOP OR THERE IS A LACK OF ACCELERATION. NEVER DO THEY OCCUR TOGETHER. I HAVE RETURNED THE CAR TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAVE HAD EVERY SOFTWARE UPDATE AVAILABLE APPLIED. I AM TOLD AT EVERY VISIT THAT THE TRANSMISSION IS OPERATING NORMALLY. I'M CONCERNED THAT ONE DAY I WILL PULL INTO TRAFFIC THOUGH AND THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE AS EXPECTED RESULTING IN AN ACCIDENT. THE CAR CURRENTLY HAS 93,000 MILES ON IT.
THERE WAS AN INCREASING VARIATION IN SPEEDS AS I TRIED TO ACCELERATE FOR MERGING ONTO MAJOR HIGHWAY. THOUGHT THE FLOOR MAT WAS STUCK UNDER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, BUT IT WAS NOT. PROBLEM CONTINUED AT DIFFERENT TIMES AND DIFFERENT SPEEDS. *JS WHEN I TOOK THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE ON 9/20/13, I DESCRIBED THE PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE REP. HE TOLD ME FIRST THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE ALERT FOR THIS PROBLEM AND WOULD REQUIRE 3 HOURS FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO BE RE-PROGRAMMED. I AGREED TO WAIT WHILE THE WORK WAS DONE. HE RETURNED SHORTLY TO INFORM ME THAT THERE WAS A MORE RECENT SERVICE ALERT FOR THIS PROBLEM AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO RETURN AT ANOTHER TIME AND LEAVE THE CAR FOR AT LEAST THREE DAYS BECAUSE IT WAS LIKELY THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REMOVED AND RE-BUILT! AND A RENTAL CAR FOR THAT PERIOD WOULD BE AT MY EXPENSE SINCE THIS IS NOT AN "OFFICIAL RECALL".THIS DESPITE MY HAVING ALSO PURCHASED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY PLAN FROM FORD. I LEFT THE CAR AT THE DEALERSHIP ON 9/25/13 AND GOT A RENTAL CAR AT MY OWN EXPENSE. LATER THAT DAY, I RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPT. INFORMING ME THAT NOT ONLY WOULD THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION HAVE TO BE REMOVED AND REPAIRED BUT THE CLUTCH WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. IT WOULD TAKE "AT LEAST 2 ADDITIONAL DAYS" FOR THESE REPAIRS", "IF WE GET THE PARTS IN" . I AM NOW WAITING TO SEE HOW LONG IT WILL BE BEFORE I GET MY CAR BACK, WHILE I PAY FOR A RENTAL CAR IN THE MEANTIME.
2012 FORD FOCUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *SMD ON SEPTEMBER 5, 2013, THE CONSUMER STATED SHE STARTED HEARING LOUD GRATED SOUNDS, WHEN SHE TURNED CORNERS. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, BUT THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE SOUND. HE STATED THE SOUND HE DID HEAR, WAS NORMAL FOR THAT TYPE OF VEHICLE, BECAUSE OF THE TYPE OF TRANSMISSION THAT WAS IN NEW CARS. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MAKE THE SOUND, UNTIL NOVEMBER 12TH, WHEN IT BECAME WORSE THE CONSUMER WENT TO ANOTHER DEALER, WHO FOUND A FAULTY CLUTCH. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE, SO THEY PROVIDED HER WITH A LOANER, AND INFORMED HER IT WOULD BE SEVERAL WEEKS BEFORE THE PART ARRIVED. THE PARTS ARRIVED TWO MONTHS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT AT THE DEALER.
I OWN A 2012 FORD FOCUS SEL THAT HAS HAD MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION ISSUES ALONG WITH AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM RELATING TO THE STEERING WHEEL AND A BATTERY FAILURE. THE VEHICLE HAS HAD ISSUES ACCELERATING THROUGH 1ST GEAR WHICH WAS EVIDENT BY EXTREME SHUDDERING AND SHAKING OF THE VEHICLE. THIS HAD PUT ME INTO DANGEROUS SITUATIONS NUMEROUS TIMES WHEN TRYING TO MERGE ONTO FREEWAYS AS THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO GET UP TO SPEED IN TIME. MY TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AT 9,562 MILES IN SEPT. 2013. THE SHUTTERING AND ACCELERATION PROBLEMS RECURRED AT 21,904 MILES IN SEPT. 2014 AND FORD RAN A SYSTEM UPDATE TO 'FIX' THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO REPLACED THE STEERING WHEEL FOR ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AT THIS TIME. THE ACCELERATION ISSUES CONTINUED FOR THE NEXT MONTH AND THE CLUTCH WAS FINALLY REPLACED IN OCT. 2014. A COUPLE WEEKS LATER THE BATTERY WAS DEAD 3 SUNDAYS IN A ROW AND WAS ALSO REPLACED. FORD HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REASSURE ME THAT THESE TRANSMISSION ISSUES WILL NOT BE ON-GOING. I CONTINUOUSLY READ OTHERS ACCOUNTS ONLINE STATING THEY ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUES I AM HAVING, AND IN MANY CASES THEIR DEALERSHIPS ARE IGNORING THE ISSUES AND MAKING EXCUSES. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. *TR
I HAVE A 2012 FORD FOCUS ELECTRIC VEHICLE. I HAVE HAD IT FOR LESS THAN NINE MONTHS. IN THAT TIME, WE'VE HAD THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE SIX TIMES. WHEN THIS MESSAGE HAPPENS, YOU HAVE NO OPTION...THE CAR SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY, REGARDLESS OF WHERE YOU ARE. THREE TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED IN TRAFFIC, WITHOUT WARNING. TODAY WAS THE SEVENTH TIME THE "STOP SAFELY NOW" MESSAGE APPEARED, STOPPING MY CAR IN TRAFFIC AT A VERY BUSY INTERSECTION. SO FAR, THE RESPONSE FROM FORD HAS BEEN MINIMAL, THEY DON'T REALLY SEEM TO KNOW HOW TO FIX IT NOR DOES THE DEALERSHIP SEEM TOO CONCERNED. ALL INSTANCES OF THIS MESSAGE SEEM TO OCCUR WHILE BREAKING. *JS
THE INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 8/28/13 AS I TRIED TO PULL ONTO THE BUSY INTERSECTION. MY CAR DID NOT WANT TO CHANGE GEARS AND HAD NO POWER AT ALL. I HAD TO BE TOWED SINCE I WAS OVER AN HOUR AWAY FROM MY HOME. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP SINCE THIS DATE. I CALLED ON 8/30/13 AND WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT WAS OK FOR ME TO TAKE MY CAR AND DRIVE IT OVER THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. I ASKED IF IT WOULD HURT THE CAR TO DRIVE IT AND ALSO IF IT WOULD BE SAFE. THE TECHNICIANS ASSURED ME THAT IT WOULD BE PERFECTLY FINE AND THAT I WAS TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 9/3/13 AND WHEN THE PART CAME IN, THE CAR WOULD BE REPAIRED. I DECIDED TO TAKE MY CAR AND PROCEEDED TO DRIVE IT HOME. APPROXIMATELY ONE HALF MILE DOWN THE ROAD I REALIZED THAT THE CAR WAS HAVING GREAT DIFFICULTY TRYING TO CHANGE GEARS AND HAD NO POWER AT ALL. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY AN ONCOMING CAR BECAUSE MINE WAS STALLED AND JUST SITTING THERE. I DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WILL REMAIN UNTIL IT IS COMPLETELY REPAIRED. EARLY 2013, EXPERIENCED DAILY VIOLENT "SHUDDERING" WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, GOING AROUND CORNERS AND GOING UP HILLS AND ANY KIND OF INCLINE. FORD SERVICE DEPT. DIAGNOSED MY CAR ON 8/28/13 AS NEEDING A NEW CLUTCH WHICH WAS ON BACK-ORDER DUE TO HIGH-DEMAND. ON 9/17/13, MY CLUTCH WAS REPLACED. SLOWLY THE SHUDDERING RETURNED AND MARCH OF THIS YEAR (2015), IT WAS AGAIN SHUDDERING VIOLENTLY. ON 3/26/15, FORD SERVICE DEPT. DIAGNOSED MY CAR AS NEEDING THE TRANSMISSION TO COME FULLY OUT AND BE REPAIRED. ON 5/5/15, THE TRANSMISSION WAS REMOVED AND BOTH INPUT SHAFT SEALS WERE FOUND TO BE LEAKING. THE SEALS WERE REPLACED AND THE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY WAS CLEANED. ALMOST IMMEDIATELY THEREAFTER, THE CAR STARTED SHUDDERING AGAIN AND ON 8/14/15 AS I DROVE WITH MY TODDLER IN THE BACKSEAT, THE CAR STARTED SHUDDERING AND LOST POWER AS I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY AND AN ALARM SOUNDED INSIDE THE VEHICLE WITH A MESSAGE ON THE DASH THAT READ " TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION - SERVICE NOW". ON 8/17/15, FORD SERVICE DEPT. DIAGNOSED THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO AGAIN BE REMOVED AND REPAIRED WHICH IS NOW SCHEDULED FOR 9/15/2015. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE DIES BEFORE MAKING FORD DEAL WITH THIS VERY SERIOUS ISSUE. MANY FORD FOCUS OWNERS ARE LOSING POWER WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A 35 MPH ROAD, TRYING TO PUSH THE GAS TO GET TO 35 MPH, BUT IT FAILED AND REVVED THE ENGINE AND RPM WITHOUT INCREASING MY SPEED. I WAS GOING 20 MPH AND WORRIED THAT MY SPEED WOULD AFFECT OTHER CARS BEHIND ME TO POSSIBLY HIT ME. THERE IS SOME NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. IT HAPPENED THREE TIMES WITHIN LESS THAN A MILE SO I PULLED OVER OFF THE ROAD TO CHECK AND STILL UNSURE. THE CAR IS STILL BRAND NEW AND ONLY AT ALMOST 16,000 MILES. *TR
SINCE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, IT SEEMED TO STUTTER WHEN TRYING TO GO FROM A STOP. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS NORMAL FOR THIS TRANSMISSION. BUT ON AUGUST 24TH, THE TRANSMISSION STARTED TO HAVE EVEN MORE PROBLEMS. FIRST THE VEHICLE WAS HAVING A HARD TIME ACCELERATING PAST 20 MPH. THEN IT STARTED JERKING BACK AND FORTH, LUNGING TO AND FRO. IT WAS NOT SHIFTING GEARS LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE, AND IT FELT LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL, SO COMPLAINANT HAD TO PULL OVER TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT AND ALLOW FAST MOVING TRAFFIC TO PASS. AFTER TRAFFIC HAD PASSED, COMPLAINANT TURNED AROUND TO GO BACK HOME, JERKING AND LUNGING THE WHOLE TIME GOING LESS THAN 20 MPH. AFTER LEAVING THE CAR SIT FOR SEVERAL HOURS, THE VEHICLE STARTED UP AGAIN, AND SEEMED TO BE OPERATING NORMALLY. HOWEVER NOW THE VEHICLE IS HAVING A HARDER TIME GOING UP HILLS, AND HAS TROUBLE COASTING. FEELS LIKE SOMETHING IS DRAGGING IT DOWN. THIS COULD BE VERY UNSAFE, AS THE PROBLEM IS NOT PREDICTABLE, AND COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. A 2012 VEHICLE WITH 39000 MILES SHOULD NOT BE HAVING TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ALREADY.
I HAVE ONLY OWNED THIS 2012 FORD FOCUS FOR APPROX. 6 WEEKS. IT HAS BEEN HESITATING, SPUTTERING, AND JERKING UPON ACCELERATION AND WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS SINCE THE FIRST DAY I OWNED IT. AT FIRST IT WAS INTERMITTENT BUT NOW IT HAPPENS MOST ALL THE TIME. WHEN I STOP AND TAKE OFF IT FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO STALL OUT. THE DEALER SAID THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO DROP THE ENGINE, REPLACE THE SEALS (THERE IS LEAKING AROUND THE SEALS) AND REPLACE THE CLUTCH. AND, THE SEALS ARE ON BACK-ORDER FOR 2 TO 3 WEEKS! THEY SAY IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE AND TO LET THEM KNOW IF IT WORSENS (HOW CAN IT GET WORSE). THEY MAY SAY IT IS SAFE, BUT I SURE DO NOT FEEL SAFE OR COMFORTABLE DRIVING THIS CAR. I HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER FOCUS OWNERS ON THIS SAME ISSUE. FORD NEEDS TO RECALL THESE CARS AND LISTEN TO CONSUMERS. THIS IS A DEFECT THAT NEEDS FORD'S OWNERSHIP. I TURN THE KEY AND THE FOCUS DOESN'T START. AT FIRST THE DEALER SAID THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE KEY - THEY WERE RECEIVING AN ERROR MESSAGE. THE SECOND TIME, THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE PART THAT READ THE KEY AND THEY REPLACED IT. THE THIRD TIME THEY SAID THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. POWER STEERING ASSIT POPS UP THE DAY AFTER PURCHASING AND RESTARTED CAR. ISSUE WENT AWAY UNTIL AFTER USED CAR LOT WARRANTY RUNS OUT. ISSUE SEEMED TO ONLY HAPPEN IN THE WARMER MONTHS OF THE YEAR. HAS HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY 40-50 TIMES. FINALLY COMPLETELY WENT OUT ON JUNE 10TH 800 MILES AWAY FROM HOME WHILE MY WIFE AND KIDS WE ON A TRIPPED TO SEE HER PARENTS. HAD TAKEN CAR TO DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES OVER ISSUE SINCE WE PURCHASED AND THEY FINALLY ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE BUT THEIR HANDS ARE TIED TIL I PAY THE $1850 OR A RECALL HAPPENS. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, THE CAR GAVE A "STOP SAFELY NOW" ALERT AND THE CAR LOST POWER. IT COASTED ENOUGH TO ROLL TO THE RIGHT LANE AND THEN DIED. I COULD NOT GET THE WARNING FLASHERS TO WORK. I TRIED FOR ABOUT 7 MINUTES TO GET THE CAR TO TURN OFF, EVERY COMBINATION I KNEW. AFTER THAT, THE CAR 'RESET' AND I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO START. I DROVE AWAY AS IF NOTHING HAPPENED. IT HASN'T HAPPENED SINCE. IT'S NOT COOL TO HAVE THE CAR QUIT IN TRAFFIC LIKE THAT. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP ON THE 22 NOV 2013 TO A DIFFERENT CERTIFIED FORD DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE A SEAL ON THE CLUTCH WHICH WAS ALLOWING FLUID TO DRIP ON CLUTCH PLATE AND ALLOW TO SLIP WILL DRIVING. DROVE THE CAR AND IT WAS WORKING BETTER. BUT OVER TIME THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AND THEN GOT WORSE. TOOK THE CAR BAKE IN BECAUSE ON THE 9AUG2015 I WAS DRIVING 60 MPH AND THE CAR STARTED TO SLIP AGAIN THEN IT OVER HEATED AND HAD A MALFUNCTION. I HAD LOST ALL MY GEARS ON A HIGHWAY AT 60 MPH. THEY REPLACED SOME PARTS AND WHEN 2 DAYS OF GETTING IT BACK IT IS STARTING TO SLIP AGAIN. I AM CALLING DEALERSHIP IN THE MORNING. THIS IS NOT A SAFE CAR TO DRIVE UNLESS THEY FIX THEIR TRANSMISSION.

THE MECHANIC DECIDED TO DRIVE ANOTHER NEW FOCUS OFF THE LOT AND WROTE ON MY SERVICE INVOICE THAT THE NEW CAR OFF THE LOT DROVE AS ROUGH AS MY CAR. THE FOCUS CONTINUED TO BE A DANGEROUS VEHICLE JUMPING, BUCKING, HESTITATING THEN JUMPING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND I CONTINUED TO TAKE IT BACK TO MR. SNEAD WHO STATED IT WAS MY DRIVING, NOT THE FOCUS. I TOOK THAT FOCUS IN ALMOST EVERY OTHER MONTH W/ THE SAME COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION FOR 2 YEARS 2 MONTHS ONLY TO HEAR IT WAS MY DRIVING, NOT THE CAR. FINALLY, THE CAR WAS SCARING ME TO DEATH AND I FEARED FOR MY LIFE AND MY TWO CHILDREN THAT ALSO DROVE THE FOCUS. I FINALLY TOOK IT BACK TO JIM SNEAD ON 08/09/2013 AFTER OWNING THE NEW CAR FOR 2Y & 2MO TO TRADE IT IN FOR SOMETHING SAFER. I PAID $24,652.25 FOR THAT BRAND NEW FOCUS AND JIM SNEAD GAVE ME A TRADE IN VALUE OF $961.00 FOR A MUCH SAFER CAR HE SAID. I BOUGHT A BRAND NEW 2014 FIESTA (YES, ANOTHER NIGHTMARE FROM HELL). I THOUGHT MR. SNEAD WAS A FRIEND, A REPUTABLE BUSINESS MAN. I BOUGHT 2 USED FOCUSES FROM HIM SINCE THE EARLY 2000S & THEY WERE FINE. MR. SNEAD KNEW MY HUSBAND WAS ILL IN 2003 & I BECAME A WIDOW W/ TWO KIDS TO RAISE. MR. SNEAD AND FORD KNEW ABOUT THOSE DANGEROUS VEHICLES AND FURTHERMORE, IN 814 DAYS OF OWNERSHIP I LOST $685.55 PER MONTH IN DEPRECIATION AND PAYMENTS! I WAS A TEACHER FOR HEAVEN'S SAKE W/ HIS WIFE, MRS. SNEAD. HE KNEW I DID NOT HAVE MONEY TO BURN. NEXT UP--THE FOCUS I BOUGHT AFTER TRADING IN THE FOCUS.
AT 12,738 MILES I TOOK TO DEALER AND COMPLAINED ABOUT SLUGGISH ACCELERATION. AT 14,886 MILES I TOOK TO DEALER AND COMPLAINED ABOUT CLUTCH SHUDDER AND THEY INSTALLED NEW CLUTCH AND INPUT SHAFT SEALS AND AXLE SEALS, REINSTALLED TRANY WITH NEW HARDWARE. ALSO COMPLAINED THAT CAR WOULD NOT START TWICE, ON FIRST TURN OF KEY. AT 14886 MILES, I WAS ON HIGHWAY ACCELERATING FROM A STOP. I GOT UP TO ABOUT 35 MILES AN HOUR AND THE CAR SUDDENLY SEEMED TO DOWNSHIFT, COMING ALMOST TO A COMPLETE STOP. THEN IT WAS VERY SLOW TO ACCELERATE UP TO SPEED AGAIN. THIS HAPPENED AT TWO MORE SUCCESSIVE STOP SIGNS, CAUSING THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME TO HAVE TO SLOW DOWN SUDDENLY TO AVOID RUNNING INTO ME. I ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT THE CAR SOMETIMES SCOOTING ON THE PAVEMENT UPON ACCELERATION AS IF "BURNING RUBBER" OR "PEELING OUT" ALSO COMPLAINED THAT ONE TIME, I TURNED THE KEY OFF AND I COULD STILL HEAR SOME KIND OF NOISE IN THE DASH LIKE SOMETHING WAS STILL "WORKING" LIKE A CD PLAYER OR SOMETHING, WHICH I WASN'T EVEN USING.
