TRANSMISSION SHUDDER. REBUILT 3 TIMES. SOFTWARE RESET 5 TIMES. TRANSMISSION COMPUTER REPLACED 1X. STILL SHUDDERS, DRIFTS BACK WHEN ON A HILL, JERKS INTO GEAR SUDDENLY. SERVICE STATION ADVISED ME WHEN THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER (NOT UNDER WARRANTY) THAT THE SHUDDER AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS WERE NORMAL FOR THE TRANSMISSION AND DID NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THIS BEGAN WHEN I PURCHASE THE CAR IN SPRING OF 2012 AND IS STILL AN ISSUE NOW AT ABOUT 82,0000 MILES. MOST OF THE WORK WAS DONE WHILE UNDER THE NORMAL WARRANTY. THE LAST SERVICE, WHEN THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER WAS DONE IN SEPTEMBER 2014. THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT OPERATING NORMALLY AND SEEMS DANGEROUS AT TIMES WHEN IT JERKS INTO GEAR OR ROLLS BACK WHEN AT A STOP. *TR
MULTIPLE ISSUES CAR DISENGAGED FROM TRANSMISSION WHEN ON HIGHWAY. RPM SHOT WAY UP BUT CAR NOT ENGAGING TO TRANSMISSION. HAD TO PULL OVER (COAST) TO SIDE OF HIGHWAY WITH NO POWER TRAIN. REQUIRED MAJOR DPS6 REPLACEMENT AT FORD DEALER IN PARK CITY UTAH INITIALLY WHEN PURCHASED CAR WOULD ROLL BACKWARDS WHEN IN FORWARD GEAR, THE CAR STILL DOES THIS AND WILL ALL ROLL FORWARD WHEN IN BACKWARD GEAR. CAR STILL CONSTANTLY STUTTERS WHEN MOVING FORWARD FROM STOP. JERKING MOTIONS. I CALLED FORD CUSTOMER TO COMPLAIN AND ADVISED. THEY TOLD ME NOTHING COULD BE DONE IN 2012. I ASKED TO PUT ON RECORD 'THE CAR ROLLS BACKWARDS WHEN IN GEAR' WHEN ON ANY INCLINE. THERE IS CHILDREN IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD! ANOTHER COMPLAINT LOGGED 2/22/17 1-800-392-3673 WITH FORD. THE TCM WAS REPAIRED AND A COMPLETE TRANSMISSION OVERHAUL WAS DONE IN SUNNYVALE CA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE VEHICLE EMITTED A GRINDING NOISE AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED ERRATICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON MANY OCCASIONS, BUT THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED AND THE GRINDING NOISE WAS NORMAL. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND A FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS OR WARRANTIES COVERING THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,364. I CANNOT GIVE EXACT DATES AND MILEAGE BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN FORM THE GET GO AND GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE RECENTLY. THE CAR USED TO SIMPLY STRUGGLE TO GO FORM A STOP OR LOW SPEED. WE HAD THE TRANSMISSION REPROGRAMMED BUT THAT DID NOT HELP. IT CONTINUES TO ACT IN THAT MANNER BUT NOW HAS GOTTEN DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND IT IS DRIVEN FROM GEORGETOWN, KY TO CINCINNATI 5 DAYS A WEEK FOR WORK. IT NOW HAS ROUGHLY 105,000 MILES ON IT, THOUGH THAT MAY BE JUST A LITTLE HIGH. THE CAR IS NOW LOSING POWER, NOT SHUTTING DOWN BUT LOSING POWER. IT IS HAPPENING AT SLOW SPEED AND AT HIGHWAY SPEED. MY WIFE HAS REPORTED IT HAS NEARLY CAUSED HER TO HAVE AN ACCIDENT ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. WE HAVE SPENT OVER $1100 TRYING TO FIX IT BASED ON WHAT THE DEALERSHIP IS TELLING THE "CODES" SAY IS WRONG BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. I AM AFRAID THIS CAR WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND HURT SOMEONE OR WORSE IT WE CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT. WE CANNOT AFFORD TO PUT ANY MORE MONEY INTO IT, TRADE IT IN, OR STOP USING IT. I HAVE SEEN COUNTLESS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS VEHICLE AND I HAVE TO WONDER WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A MANDATORY RECALL TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION, NOT JUST REPROGRAM IT SINCE THAT DOESN'T WORK. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ONCE HE SHIFTED TO DRIVE AND ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE AND LUNGE FORWARD. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE SHIFTED FROM 1ST GEAR TO 2ND GEAR IT HESITATED AND MADE A LOUD GRINDING NOISE AND INDEPENDENTLY REVERTED BACK TO 1ST GEAR. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS BEHAVIOR WAS NORMAL AND PROVIDED A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER INSTRUCTING THE DEALERS NOT TO REPAIR THOSE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 16,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED ON AN INCLINE, SHE ATTEMPTED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR WHEN THE HILL ASSIST FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ROLL AWAY IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TRANSMISSION PROGRAM WAS UPDATED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE REPAIRED, AS IT WAS DESIGNED TO OPERATE IN THE MANNER IN WHICH IT PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THE CONTACT WAS AWAITING A RETURN CALL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,000.
THIS IS A ONGOING PROBLEM WITH MY FOCUS. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A STOP THE FOCUS'S AUTOMATIC DSG TRANSMISSION (IN D) WILL QUICKLY SHIFT TO A HIGHER GEAR IN AN EFFORT TO MINIMIZE FUEL CONSUMPTION. DURING A STOPPED TURN AT A INTERSECTION THIS LEADS TO A UNSAFE CONDITION WHERE COMMANDED ACCELERATION TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS TO HAPPEN. THE PROBLEM HAPPENS LIKE THIS: THE CAR ACCELERATES AT A STOP SIGN OR PARKING LOT. THE CAR ACCELERATES TO 10-15 MILES PER HOUR. THE DRIVER LETS OFF THE GAS DURING THE "TURN" PART. THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS TO SECOND OR A HIGHER GEAR. THE DRIVER THEN COMMANDS A LARGE ACCELERATION - SAY DUE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC - AND NOTHING WILL HAPPEN FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. THIS IS BECAUSE THE DSG TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO SHIFT SEQUENTIALLY INTO FIRST AND THIS TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS. ALSO IT APPEARS THAT THE POWERTRAIN IS DISCONNECTED WHILE THIS SHIFTING TAKES PLACE. WHEN THE TRANSMISSION FINALLY SELECTS FIRST THE ACCELERATION CAN BE SUDDEN AND UNEXPECTED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES AND I BELIEVE IT IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION. IT CAN BE AVOIDED BY MANUALLY SELECTING FIRST - THEN SHIFTING TO D WHEN THE TURN IS COMPLETE. *JS
I PURCHASED MY 2012 FORD FOCUS IN MAY OF 2011 - A FAIRLY EARLY BUILD OF THE REMODELED VEHICLE. AT AROUND 20K MILES, THE CAR STARTED EXHIBITING SOME UNUSUAL NOISES. THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY WERE "NORMAL CHARACTERISTICS" OF THE TRANSMISSION. SINCE THEN, SEVERAL OTHER FOCUS OWNERS (FOCUSFANATICS.COM) HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES. MY CAR NOW MAKES A GRINDING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE, 2ND, 4TH, AND OCCASIONALLY 6TH GEAR. WHEN CLIMBING HILLS, THE CAR APPEARS TO HAVE LITTLE-TO-NO POWER AND MAKES A HORRID RATTLING NOISE THAT I AM NOW AWARE IS THE CLUTCH SLIPPING. WHILE IN BUMPER-TO-BUMPER TRAFFIC, THE CAR BUCKS AND JERKS. THE CAR HAS AN "AUTOMATIC" DUAL-CLUTCH TRANSMISSION, SO THERE IS NO WAY THAT I CAN CHANGE THE SHIFTING PATTERNS. IT TURNS OUT THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE CAUSED BY A LEAKING SEAL CONTAMINATING THE CLUTCH WITH OIL, BUT CONSUMERS ARE NEEDING TO FIGHT THE DEALERS TO GET IT FIXED AS IT IS A COSTLY REPAIR. I'VE TRIED REPEATEDLY TO GET IT CORRECTED UNDER WARRANTY AND KEEP GETTING TURNED AWAY. ASIDE FROM THE FEAR OF MY OWN SAFETY, I ALSO ASSUME THIS WILL BE DETRIMENTAL TO THE LIFE OF OTHER COMPONENTS (ACTUATORS/SYNCHROS/ENGINE MOUNTS/ETC.) WITHIN THE POWER TRAIN THAT I MAY NEED TO PAY TO REPLACE OUT-OF-POCKET AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES. ASIDE FROM REPAIRING IT MYSELF, A RECALL IS MY ONLY HOPE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT 5 MPH DUE TO TRAFFIC AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY 2012 FORD FOCUS SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING IT SORT OF SCARED ME BECAUSE DIDN'T KNOW WHY? I SAID OK MAYBE JUST A COINSIDENCE BUT TO MY SURPRISE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN ON FREEWAY SINCE THATS MY DAILY ROUTE WAS GOING 45MPH AND AGAIN TURNED OFF I TOOK TO GET SERVICED SINCE I DRIVE FROM RIVERSIDE TO BURBANK EVERYDAY THOUGHT MAYBE NEEDS TO GET SERVICED AND MENTIONED TO FELLOW A FORD BUT SAID WELL IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN BRING IT IN AND WILL CHECK IT OUT SO I SAID OK WELL HOPEFULLY NOT BUT IT HAPPEND FOR 3RD TIME AND I WAS GOING 70 MPH AND ALMOST GOT IN AN ACCIDENT THANK GOD NO ONE WAS NEXT TO ME HAD TO STOP BECAUSE IT TURNED OFF COMPLETELTY BUT THIS TIME SAID TRANSMISSION ON SCREEN SO I TOOK IT TO FORD AND I EXPLAINED EVERYTHING TO THEM BECAUSE I'M SCARED I'M NOT GONNA MAKE IT HOME TO MY FAMILY AGAIN BECAUSE GOING AT 70 MPH ON FREEWAY AND ALL OF A SUDDEN CAR SHUTS DOWN IMAGINE HOW SCARED I WAS..... THE PEOPLE AT FORD CHECKED IT OUT AND TOOK IT FOR A DRIVE ON FREEWAY AND SAID IT WAS FINE NOTHING CAME UP BUT HELLO IT DOESN'T HAPPEN EVERYDAY THEY EXPLAINED THEY CHECKED OTHER FORD STORES TO SEE IF THEY HAVE HEARD OF SUCH PROBLEM AND SUPPOSEDLY IT HASN'T BUT I'M READING SOME OF THESE COMPLAINTS AND I SEE SOME ARE RELATED SO I NEED TO FIND OUT WHT TO DO BECAUSE I HONESTLY DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS CAR. FORD WILLINGLY KNEW AND STILL SOLD CARS WITH TRANSMISSION ISSUES
PURCHASED A NEW 2012 FORD FOCUS WITH AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION IN APRIL, 2012. IMMEDIATELY EXPERIENCED LOW SPEED TRANSMISSION SHIFTING PROBLEMS AND ALSO DISCOVERED COMPLETE FREE ROLL BACKWARD, UNENDING, UNTIL HITTING LEVEL GROUND AND/OR HITTING AN OBJECT WHILE ROLLING BACKWARDS ON AN INCLINE, EVEN WHILE IN GEAR. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY AND DRIVER LIABILITY ISSUE . DEALERSHIP HAS RE-PROGRAMMED TRANSMISSION ON A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN WITHOUT SUCCESS. DEALERSHIP HAD ME TEST DRIVE ANOTHER 2012 FOCUS THINKING IT WOULD NOT DEMONSTRATE THE SAME SAFETY PROBLEM...AND TO THEIR SURPRISE..THE TEST DRIVE VEHICLE THEY GAVE ME ALSO PERFORMED THE SAME WAY ON THE FREE ROLLBACK WHILE IN GEAR. I BELIEVE THE FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM HERE IS THAT FORD HAS DESIGNED AND MANUFACTURED IN THE 2012 FOCUS LINE A STANDARD/MANUAL TRANSMISSION (POORLY SHIFTED BY SOFTWARE AND DYSFUNCTIONAL ON THE FREE ROLL BACK ISSUE) AND IS MARKETING IT TO ALL CONSUMERS AS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. SERVICE DEPARTMENT ACKNOWLEDGES THAT IT TRULY IS A STANDARD/MANUAL DESIGN. THE WINDOW STICKER AND SALES PROCESS MISREPRESENTS TO THE CONSUMER THAT IT IS AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. THIS MAY CONSTITUTE CONSUMER FRAUD ON A NATIONAL LEVEL LEADING TO EITHER CLASS ACTION LITIGATION, TOTAL RECALL AND/OR INDIVIDUAL CASES OF LITIGATION. I AM CONSIDERING ALL OF THE ABOVE AS THE PROBLEM REMAINS AND HAS NOT BEEN RECTIFIED. *TR
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION DOES NOT SHIFT SMOOTHLY. INTERMITTENT VIBRATES, BUCKS, HESITATES, SLIPS & JERKS. CAN'T RELY ON TAKE-OFF ACCELERATION WHETHER IT WILL ENGAGE PROPERLY, PULLING INTO TRAFFIC IS VERY DANGEROUS. STOP AND GO TRAFFIC IS VERY DANGEROUS. IT'S LIKE SOMEONE DRIVING A STICK SHIFT AND NOT HAVING THE CLUTCH & GAS IN SYNC, ONLY IT'S AN AUTOMATIC SO YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I HAVE HAD THE CAR IN TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT ON 3 OCCASIONS. THE FIRST TIME THE TECH LAUGHED AT ME AND TOLD ME IT WAS JUST THE "NEW" 6-SPEED TRANSMISSION. 2ND TIME, THEY REPLACED SOME PARTS IN THE TRANSMISSION. 3RD TIME, THEY HAD THE CAR 4 DAYS & SAID THERE WAS NOTHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY HAPPENING. THERE IS DEFINITELY SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS TRANSMISSION, AND FORD NEEDS TO DO SOMETHING TO FIX THEM BEFORE AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS.

RELEASE BUTTON FOR EMERGENCY BRAKE BROKE AND CAME OFF. UNABLE TO SET PARKING BRAKE BECAUSE I WON'T BE ABLE TO RELEASE IT. FORD SERVICE INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS "TRIM ISSUE" AND WAS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I CAN NOT SET THE PARKING BRAKE, WHICH LEAVES THE DANGER OF THE CAR ROLLING WHILE PARKED AND INJURING SOMEONE. I WENT TO THE PARTS DEPARTMENT OUT OF DESPERATION TO ORDER THE BUTTON, AND WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE PARKING BRAKE ASSYEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED AT OVER $1000! THAT DOES NOT SOUND LIKE A TRIM ISSUE TO ME! THE POWER STEERING ASSIST FAILS WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED. IT JUST CUTS OFF AND STEERING BECOMES EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. RESTARTING THE CAR SEEMS TO RESET THE PSA AND I CAN DRIVE AGAIN. BUT THIS HAS HAPPENED 7-8 TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR. I'VE GONE TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES, AND EACH TIME THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE ERROR, BUT CANNOT REPLICATE IT AND THEY DO NOT MAKE ANY CORRECTIVE REPAIRS OR ACTION. THEY JUST EXPECT ME TO DRIVE OFF WITH THE CAR WITH THE UNDERLYING PROBLEM STILL IN EXISTENCE - AND THEY'RE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM! AND THEY DO NOT APPEAR TO BE RESEARCHING IT. THIS IS MY FAMILY CAR, AND THIS IS JUST IRRESPONSIBLE OF FORD. PSA IS NOT AN OPTIONAL FEATURE THAT WE CAN LIVE WITHOUT. WE'VE BEEN FORTUNATE THAT THESE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED UNDER 45MPH AND ON MOSTLY STRAIGHT RESIDENTIAL ROADS. WHAT ABOUT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OR AT A SHARP BEND? WILL IT TAKE LIVES LOST BEFORE THEY EVEN BEGIN TO FIX THE PROBLEM? AND GOOGLE SEARCHES SHOW THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED PROBLEM AND MANY OTHERS ARE GIVEN THE SHRUG OFF. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS EQUIPPED WITH CONTINENTAL CONTITOURING CONTACT TIRES, DOT NUMBER: A3D347PB, SIZE 215/55/R16. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH UPHILL, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE FRONT AND REAR TIRES EXPLODED WITHOUT WARNING. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE DRY AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,086 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 3,098.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE ON MARCH 21, 2012 AND FIRST TOOK IT INTO THE DEALERSHIP APRIL 4, 2012 BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION BOGGS FOR THE STARTUP 0 TO APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH. THIS CREATED A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN PULLING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAD NO POWER, ESPECIALLY WHEN IN A STOPPED POSITION. PASSING VEHICLES WAS UNSAFE IF YOU WERE IN THE LOWER GEARS OF THE TRANSMISSION DUE TO LACK OF POWER. THIS VEHICLE ALSO DRIFTS BACKWARDS WHEN YOU PUT YOUR VEHICLE IN PARK AND RELEASE THE BRAKE PEDAL, CAUSING DANGER TO PEDESTRIAN OR VEHICLES BEHIND YOU. I HAVE TAKEN THIS VEHICLE BACK NUMEROUS TIMES SINCE I HAVE OWNED IT FOR THE SAME TYPES OF PROBLEMS WITH THE TRANSMISSION (NOW AT VARIOUS SPEEDS) AND DRIFTING BACKWARDS. THE DEALERSHIP HAS MADE NUMEROUS ADJUSTMENTS AND CHANGES TO THE TRANSMISSION, BUT TO DATE THIS VEHICLE BASICALLY REMAINS, IN MY OPINION, A SAFETY HAZARD. TO DATE, FORD COMPANY STATES THAT ALL OF THE ABOVE HAS A REASON AND STATES THAT IT IS "NORMAL" FOR THIS NEW TYPE OF TRANSMISSION. IN MY OPINION, THIS TRANSMISSION EVOLVED TO SAVE GAS, NOT LIVES. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL AND THERE WAS NO OTHER REMEDY FOR THE HESITATION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO ALSO STATED THE FAILURE WAS NORMAL AND OFFERED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS THE STEERING APPEARS TO LOCK WHEN MAKING A LANE CHANGE OR WHEN FOLLOWING A CURVE IN THE ROAD. ADDITIONAL EFFORT WILL FREE THE STEERING BUT THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO DART IN THE DIRECTION OF THE TURN. IT TAKES SEVERAL STEERING ADJUSTMENTS TO BRING THE VEHICLE UNDER CONTROL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 600.

I CHALKED IT UP TO THE NATURE OF THE DTC AS THE DEALER INSISTED THAT IS HOW THE TRANS WORKS. AFTER SEVERAL MORE MONTHS I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR TRANS PROBLEMS. HAD TRANS REPROGRAMMED. AFTER ABOUT 3 MONTHS, ALL PROBLEMS RETURNED ALONG WITH A GRINDING SOUND WHEN IN LOWER GEARS. TOOK TO DEALER FOR REGULAR 7500 MILE CHECK AND SPOKE AT LENGTH WITH TECHNICIAN. HE HAS SAME CAR AND STATED THAT MY CLUTCH PLATES WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH SOME OTHER HARDWARE. UNFORTUNATELY, TRANS TECH WAS BOOKED FOR THE FOLLOWING WEEK AND A HALF. MADE APPT AT OTHER DEALER AND AFTER THEY CHECKED THE CAR, STATED THAT ALL I NEEDED WAS TO HAVE THE TRANS REPROGRAMMED, GOING SO FAR AS TO TELL ME THAT THE NEW PROGRAMMING WOULD "LEARN" MY DRIVING STYLE AND ADJUST AFTER A TWO WEEK PERIOD. CAR SEEMED OK FOR A FEW MONTHS, AND THEN ALL PROBLEMS RETURNED AGAIN. I TOOK MY CAR IN FOR REGULAR ESP SERVICE THIS EVENING AND ASKED FOR THE TRANS TO BE LOOKED AT AGAIN. TECH TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE BOOKED FOR OVER 2 WEEKS FOR TRANS WORK, AND 80% OF THAT WORK IS ON THE FOCUS AND FIESTA MODELS. TECH ALSO SHARED THAT AS OF 3/1/14, FORD INSTRUCTED ALL DEALERS TO STOP REPLACING THE CLUTCH PLATES AND SIMPLY REPROGRAM THE TRANS. TECH STATED THAT THIS IS DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF REPLACING THE CLUTCH PLATES; ANYWHERE FROM $1800 - $2100. HE ALSO STATED THAT INTERNALLY, FORD CORPORATE HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS TRANS IS A FAILURE. IN ORDER TO GET NEW CLUTCH PLATES, TECH STATED THAT I NEEDED TO HAVE TRANS REPROGRAMMED AND THEN DRIVE FOR 2 WEEKS. THEN RETURN TO DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE WAS REPROGRAMMED BY THE DEALER AGAIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD ADDRESS THE ISSUE AT A LATER DATE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 7,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS 5,800 MILES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN STOPPED ON A HILL AND HAVING TO RELEASE THE BRAKE THE VEHICLE ROLLS BACK WARDS. JUST A FEW DAYS AFTER WE BOUGHT THIS CAR, I WAS COMING HOME AT NIGHT AND THE CAR FELT LIKE IT RAN OUT OF GAS!! THERE WAS A FULL TANK AND NO POWER. I PUSHED ON THE GAS AND NOTHING! THANK GOD I WASN'T ON THE FREEWAY OR IN TRAFFIC. I REALLY LIKED THE GUY WHO SOLD US THIS CAR, I WILL BE CONTACTING HIM AS WELL. THE FORD FOCUS 2012 HAS PROBLEM STARTING AT 556 MILES - THE ENGINE WOULD NOT EVEN TURN OVER. THE WARNING LIGHT "STEERING ASSIST FAULT SERVICE REQUIRE" COME ON, AND THE FRONT POWER WINDOWS DO NOT WORK TOO. HOPE THE DEALER WOULD FIX THIS SOON. *TR
ONGOING ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION, EVEN AFTER 3 "FIXES" AT A FORD SERVICE CENTER. TRANSMISSION HESITATES, JERKS, AND SHUDDERS IN GEARS 1 THROUGH 3 PRIMARILY, SOMETIMES HARD ENOUGH TO SPILL A DRINK. SLOW SPEEDS AND STOP AND GO SPEEDS RESULT IN HORRIBLE DRIVING CONDITIONS AS THE JERKS/SHUDDERS GET WORSE. IT FEELS UNSAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. FOR EXAMPLE, I'LL BE PREPARING FOR A LEFT TURN ACROSS TRAFFIC (WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH TIME TO TAKE THIS TURN), AND THE HESITATION WILL BE SO BAD THAT IT'S UNCLEAR IF I'LL MAKE THE LEFT OR GET HIT BY ONCOMING TRAFFIC FIRST. TRANSMISSION HAS NOW MOVED ON TO A GRINDING SOUND, JERKING MOTION, SOUNDS AS IF SOMETHING'S GETTING STUCK. EACH TIME I'VE TAKEN THE CAR INTO THE SHOP, IT RUNS WELL FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS, AND THEN STARTS THE SHAKING AND HESITATING AGAIN. SLOWLY THE RESULTS COME BACK, AT FIRST SUBTLE SO YOU DON'T THINK TO RUSH TO THE SHOP TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT AGAIN (IT COSTS MONEY EACH TIME YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT), AND COME A COUPLE MONTHS THE CAR IS BACK TO HEAVY JERKING AND GRINDING. I FEEL EXTREMELY UNSAFE IN THE VEHICLE, IT'S UNCLEAR IF I'LL MAKE IT PROPERLY ACROSS TRAFFIC AT TIMES, OR BE ABLE TO MAKE TO DESTINATIONS ON LOG CAR RIDES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 FORD FOCUS. THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED RAPIDLY EVEN WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL ENGAGED. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN AND CRASHED INTO A CEMENT WALL. THERE WERE NO PERSONAL INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. IN ADDITION, THE MANUFACTURER ISSUED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM UNDER REFERENCE NUMBER 123B7 (TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE) AND AFTER THE RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, THE VEHICLE ROLLED AWAY WITH THE GEAR IN PARK. IN ORDER FOR THE VEHICLE TO REMAIN STATIONARY, A BLOCK WAS PLACED AGAINST THE TWO REAR TIRES. ALSO, A STRONG ANTIFREEZE ODOR EMITTED INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE AND AN OIL LEAK WAS VISIBLE ON THE GROUND. TAKE A RECALL WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD MY DOOR JUST FLUNG OPEN AND I HAVE TO HOLD IT SHUT IT WAS IN MOTION
I WENT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT MY CAR THE FIRST FEW WEEKS I HAD IT. IT ROLLS BACK WHEN ON AN INCLINE. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THIS IS NORMAL BECAUSE THE TRANSMISSION IS LIKE THAT OF A STANDARD TO TAP THE BRAKE AND IT SHOULD STOP ROLLING. IT STILL DOES IT ON INCLINES AM STILL NOT CONVINCED THAT ITS "NORMAL" FOR AN AUTOMATIC TO DO THAT, BUT IF NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AT LEAST OTHER READERS WILL BE INFORMED. *TR

TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTIONS CAUSING LONG DELAY/HESITATION WHEN SHIFTING AND SLOW/DELAYED ACCELERATION. NOTICEABLE SHUDDERING AND VIBRATION WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN GEARS AND OCCASIONAL HARD, PRONOUNCED SHIFT CHANGES CAUSING DRIVER AND PASSENGERS TO LUNGE. THIS CREATES VERY DANGEROUS DRIVING CONDITIONS MAINLY BECAUSE IT'S DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE ACCELERATION OF THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND A WARNING MESSAGE APPEARS IN THE DASH STATING 'TRANSMISSION MALFUNCTION SERVICE NOW' THIS EVENT OCCURRED THE FIRST WEEK OF VEHICLE OWNERSHIP (I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE BRAND NEW JANUARY 2012). AT THAT TIME THE DEALER RECALIBRATED THE TRANSMISSION AND IT'S BEEN PERFORMING SATISFACTORILY UNTIL RECENTLY. THIS EVENT HAS NOW OCCURRED ON FOUR OTHER OCCASIONS WITH THE MOST RECENT EVENT OCCURRING ON 9/30/2014. THE 9/30/2014 EVENT WAS THE MOST DANGEROUS AND SEVERE SO THE VEHICLE IS NOW AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE. *TR
